It's only right that we show our patriotism on Independence Day by donning red, white and blue. But it might be time to put down that American flagged-out tank top and tone down the flashy reds -- because no offense, they come off a little tacky.

This year, it's all about understated pops of color and statement accessories for your holiday festivities. Whether you need a way to style your denim cut-offs or you're just dying to go head-to-toe red, white and blue, here's your guide to staying cool and dressing well this Fourth of July.

Here are a few more Fourth of July style lessons we can learn from our first ladies!

The Motivation You Need To Get An Edgy Haircut

There are few things that make us stop and stare on the streets of New York City, but a hairstyle like no other is definitely one of them. So when we saw Steph Hui in the East Village, we weren't surprised to find out that this hair maven styles other people's tresses besides her own.

"I'm a product freak for my hair," Hui said, telling us about the method behind her creative twist on the traditional half-up, half-down hairdo. Listing Sebastian Craft Clay as one of her go-tos, the hairstylist said, "I use the paste for my sides because it's Asian hair and you have to use it or it just sticks up like crazy. Usually I curl my hair and spray a ton of the products all over."

Hui added, "I change my hair a lot, but I've had this style for a year now... my feelings and emotions always make me change it up."

Although we tend to overthink it when it comes to our hair, sometimes it takes running into someone with a bold style to give us the risk-taking boost we need to get the edgy haircut we've always wanted. Find out more about Hui's beauty secrets below.

Celebrities are used to being photographed in their bikinis, but what happens when they look fabulous and *gasp* no one's around to capture the moment?

These celebs aren't going to let a good beach day go unnoticed, so sometimes they just have to be their own photographers and snap a pic of themselves. So if any paparazzi aren't reporting for duty this Fourth of July, don't worry: we've got you covered:

Kim Kardashian Shares Sweet Photo Of North West, Opens Up About Motherhood

There's no doubt motherhood has changed Kim Kardashian. It just hasn't changed her love of posting photos of herself online.

On July 2, the 33-year-old reality star posted an adorable bedtime photo of herself giving her 1-year-old daughter North a kiss, which she simply captioned, "Night!"

While Kardashian made the decision not to feature her daughter on her reality show, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," she has been sharing more photos of little Nori via social media, and recently opened up about the joys of motherhood to the parenting blog Romy and The Bunnies.

"I love being a mom! It’s the most rewarding feeling! I really love every phase! Just the way my daughter laughs with me, all of the small things in life you appreciate," Kardashian told the website, adding that she found returning to work challenging because she didn't want to spend any time away from North.

And while most mothers probably don't want to take parenting advice from any celebrity, let alone Kim Kardashian, she did offer a few tips when asked if she could share any wisdom for busy moms trying to balance careers and families.

"It is an adjustment trying to balance a career and motherhood, for sure, but the key is to prioritize," she told the website. "You become more selective and work on projects that are so meaningful because you want every other waking moment spent with your family. You have to remember, though, to make time for yourself. If you feel good, you will be happy in your career and family life, and everyone is happy!"

Best Tweets: What Women Said On Twitter This Week

The week of July 4 festivities had a rocky start with the Supreme Court's disappointing ruling on the Hobby Lobby case. Although the decision was frustrating (to say the least), it was excellent fodder for women on Twitter: In light of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's, badass dissent we all agreed with Suri Ratnatunga when she tweeted, "I hope Ruth Bader Ginsburg is immortal." But actually.

Laura Bassett painted a perfect picture of how fierce RBG really is when she tweeted, "I am imagining Ruth Bader Ginsburg low-riding around DC in her car blasting 'Turn Down For What.'" Notorious BFG 4 Life.

Caprice Cane chimed in with the realness: "If men could get pregnant, birth control would not only be covered by health care, it would be available on every corner like Starbucks." We'd say "Amen, sister," but we have this odd habit of not imposing religious beliefs on others.

No Worries, Even Celebrities Butcher Karaoke Songs

Celebrities really are just like us, especially when they sing karaoke.

If you need some inspiration for your holiday weekend escapades, just take a look at these A-list stars attempting to belt out the lyrics to their favorite tunes. Let's just say Robert Pattinson should stick to his day job ...

Here, RPatz and Katy Perry (drunkenly) duet to Boys II Men's "I'll Make Love To You." Enjoy.

Ed Sheeran and his pal Harry Styles took a stab at Elton John's hit "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." For musicians, we expected more!

Apparently Miley Cyrus doesn't care what she sounds like unless she's singing "Wrecking Ball."

Jude Law, on the other hand, isn't that bad! Below he sings "Johnny B. Goode."

Let's just say we wouldn't want to sing karaoke if Kelly Clarkson was there ... #competition.

John Krasinski can be our "hero" any day.

The Wanted's Tom Parker obviously sings Oasis in the shower ...

Yeah, this didn't need to happen?

We got you, babe. (Aka, Rupert Grint).

Gerard Butler sang "Mustang Sally," with a little help from his friends Demi Moore and Michelle Monaghan.

Elijah Wood took on Black Eyed Peas' "I Got A Feeling" with The RZA, Nacho Vigalondo, Eugenio Mira, Tim League, Michael Lerman and Henri Mazza, and they killed it.

Dave Coulier Got Married And His Wedding Was A 'Full House' Reunion

Congrats to Dave Coulier and Melissa Bring!

The couple tied the knot in a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Paradise Valley, Montana on July 2, and the guest list was full of familiar faces (because you know Joey Gladstone would never get married with out Danny Tanner and Jesse Katsopolis by his side).

Yes, Coulier's wedding was practically a "Full House" reunion with former co-stars Bob Saget, Candance Cameron Bure, John Stamos, and Andrea Barber all in attendance. And while even the show's creator Jeff Franklin was there to witness the 54-year-old actor's big day, there were a few members of the Tanner family who were missing. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who shared the role of Michelle, were not present for the festivities, nor was Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie.

While the whole cast didn't make it out to the wedding, it looks like those who did had a wonderful time:

Designer and Founder of J. Stark Chats About His American-Made, Timeless Pieces

2014-07-03-h1955598.jpg

Those with an affinity for classic movies might immediately recognize the name Jim Stark and associate it with James Dean's emotionally-charged character in Rebel Without A Cause, but for those who didn't grow up in that era (or didn't have parents who had a healthy addiction to TCM) it might just be the name of a cool new accessory brand. J. Stark is a new, American company that offers quality, hand-made leather and wool accessories that inspire everyone to connect with their inner rebel. Sitting down to chat with the founder and designer Erik Holmberg, we discussed trends in men's fashion, the quality of American-made goods and his hometown of Cleveland.

2014-07-03-f1955598.jpg

Holding a degree in computer science, Holmberg had a career in technology for over ten years, working for tech companies and designing ephemeral programs that were forgotten the moment they served their purpose. "I'd work on projects for a month or two at a time and then I'd show people, and they would enjoy it and really appreciate what I'd done, but you could tell that because of the medium of it that it sort of left their consciousness, and didn't really have as much of an impact on people as I thought it would," Holmberg explains. "And it sort of troubled me that when electricity wasn't available that all the work that'd been doing wouldn't be available either, so I wanted to create something with my hands, something tactile that lived on in the world in a non-digital sense."

2014-07-03-b1955598.jpg

Leaving behind his tech-heavy background, he began J. Stark a little less than a year ago and was almost immediately rewarded with some of the most meaningful work in his life. Using good, old-fashioned hard work and quality materials, Holmberg began working with his hands again and creating things that people could cherish for years to come--with or without the use of electricity. "I don't have formal experience or training when working with leather, but I did take a sewing class when I was in eighth grade so I knew I was capable of doing that and capable of working with my hands from doing some other things growing up--like building a bike from spare parts and working on my car," he explains. "I've been teaching myself and learning along the way through each generation of the products I've been creating." And while a shop class in junior high might not be the best way to start a business, we can definitely admire the impression it made on him.

2014-07-03-d1955598.jpg

And with such a die-hard love of the American work ethic, it's no surprise that his inspiration comes from none other than his mom and pop. "My parents are a huge inspiration to me, I don't know if everyone feels that way about their parents, but they really gave a lot of themselves so that me and my two older sisters could have a better life than they had," Holmberg explains. Realizing that his parents were once the same rebellious teenagers that he once was (and that James Dean's character was), allowed him to feel a connection with them and his hometown. "I'm from Cleveland which is kind of an old, dying-out, steel town that not many people know about, so they don't really speak highly of it, but it's a beautiful place and a lot of what made me who I am today. It's sort of a tribute to my parents and the city of Cleveland, and [the products are] all named after streets that are in downtown Cleveland that my parents grew up on, that I went to as a kid when my grandparents lived there, and that I still go back to when I visit Cleveland."

2014-07-03-g1955598.jpg

So was the brand named to capture the rebellious spirit of it's namesake character? Actually, when asking about the meaning behind the name, Holmberg had a surprising answer. "I think the best way to connect with people is through shared experience and being vulnerable, and I think that a good time period when we were vulnerable and also had the experiences is during young adulthood and those late teenage years when we're trying to become an individual," he explains. "I think everyone's gone through that so I picked out a movie and a character of a person who goes through those things that we've all gone through, and that's sort of the thread that runs through all our lives that maybe we can connect on." We've heard of some pretty fun and creative names in the fashion industry, but this might be the one with the most heartfelt meaning.

2014-07-03-c1955598.jpg

The pieces in the collection don't scream angst-ridden, teenage rebellion with metal studs, safety pins and hanging chains, but are rather the opposite with simple lines and minimal detailing. "The design in general, of everything I try to create, I want to be timeless and sort of authentic," Holmberg says. "If you picked up my product 10 years from now or 20 years from now you wouldn't be able to tell the date that it was made, and I think that that happens when you try to capture sort of the essence or the need that the product's serving in the best manner possible." And it's this idea of being able to hold onto, and actually utilize, a piece without impressing upon each man's individual style that Holmberg is striving for. They are simple pieces that can be passed down from father to son.

2014-07-03-e1955598.jpg

While some men prefer bits, baubles and logos of every manner covering their accessories, Holmberg is following the trends--resurgences in classic shapes, vintage designs and nondescript facades are among some of his favorites. "[Men] don't want to wear something with a huge logo on it that you can tell 'oh that's Gap or that's Louis Vuitton or whatever,'" he assures us. Nor does he want customers to feel concerned about wearing in or scuffing up the leather, so he distresses every piece beforehand. "I want people essentially to use the product, so I think if it already has a couple scratches on it then they won't feel bad scratching it up, or using it, or beating it up, because I think that actually is really what makes it your own," he explains. "When you have a wallet and it starts to get dented or scratched by the way it carries in your pocket, that's how you make it your own. I don't want people to feel bad about it; I don't want people to buy something and set it in the corner just to look at it because it's pretty."

2014-07-03-i1955598.jpg

And that's some fancy leather he's breaking in. J. Stark is comprised exclusively of Horween leather, an American family brand that has been in business for over 100 years, and has a very specific process on curating and tanning their pieces--something that Holmberg appreciates. For his wools he draws from Abraham Moon & Sons in the United Kingdom--the same wool that one of our favorites, J. Crew, uses. For Holmberg, using top quality materials while still trying to be eco-conscious (it is leather after all, there's only so much one can do), is one of his biggest priorities. "If using leather contributed to the killing of more animals then I'd probably stop using it," he says. "What I'm really trying to do is--I know that those animals are being killed for their meat, and I really just want to make sure that all pieces of the animal are used down to the skin and the leather." And he uses every piece of leather in-shop as well, keeping leftover remnants for smaller straps, pulls or parts. Plus he couldn't imagine throwing away such high-quality fabrics--it's all about quality over quantity. "I think the modern man is more interested in buying one item that lasts a really long time, [rather] than two or three items that break down easily that you have to keep replacing," he explains.

2014-07-03-a1955598.jpg

With so much work, research and sourcing that goes into the J. Stark brand, we had to wonder if the switch in careers gave him the deeper emotional connection he was looking for--turns out it was. He speaks softly, "the reaction when you give something that you've made with your hands, that can be touched and felt and passed around to people, I think is a much deeper, much more visceral reaction than I think will ever be able to be achieved digitally."

J. Stark is available online and priced from $24-$100.

There's A Search Engine For Lipstick, And It's Awesome

Sure, we can tell you about some of the best drugstore lipsticks or orange shades that will make your pout pop. But now there's also a search tool that helps you find you the PERFECT lipsticks. It's called Lipcote and it will help you whether you're on the lookout for an acid-purple or only want colors with blue undertones.

International brand Lipcote is known for products like Lipcote, The Original Lipstick Sealer and Secret of Lasting Lipstick (with a name like that, it has to be good). Their website also features beauty reviews for a variety of lip colors and formulas.

Yet the most amazing part of the site is the Lipstick Finder. The search engine of sorts lets you search by finish (matte, satin and sheen) and color undertones (blue, yellow and neutral), among other categories, and pulls up a group of lippies that fit the selected keywords.

lipcote search engine

After scanning the results, you can then click on specific products and read the reviews given by the site. The only downside is certain featured brands might not be available in your country, but don't worry, we're sure there are duplicate shades out there to cure your woes.

So the next time you're on the prowl for a new lip color, try consulting the Lipcote Lipstick Finder first -- it will potentially blow your mind, or at least cater to your lipstick wants and needs.

Jessica Alba looks stunning on British GQ's August issue, rocking a modest blue, one-piece swimsuit.

"I have to enhance what I like about my body and my stomach is good," she tells British GQ. "My legs I'm not as excited about all the time, but I wouldn't cover up my stomach. That's what women do: enhance what we've got."

Alba displayed her bikini body in the 2005 movie "Into The Blue," in which she co-starred alongside the late Paul Walker. The actress discusses her friend's death in the magazine, saying Walker "had a real childlike innocence and he was game to try anything or do anything."

"He treated everyone with respect and love," she explains. "He was never treating anybody differently because of who they were. He was really a guy's guy. And he loved his daughter so much and talked about her all the time. He never cared about Hollywood. He never cared about the hype."

The new issue of British GQ is out on July 7 and also available as an interactive digital edition.

These Subtle Details Will Turn Your Wedding Into An All-American Affair

By Kellee Khalil for Lover.ly

Summer is the perfect time to break out a little red, white, and blue -- at a wedding or just a backyard barbecue! We're feeling particularly patriotic this 4th of July and getting inspired by classic U.S. traditions and down-home Americana style. If you want an all-American vibe at your wedding but you don't want it to feel like Betsy Ross was your wedding planner, read on for our tips.

1. Use red, white, and blue as accent colors. You don't have to plaster the flag on every wall and table to show your pride -- try incorporating red, white, and blue into your decor in more subtle ways. Use varying shades of blue (navy or cerulean) and red (crimson or Pantone's 2012 color of the year, Tangerine Tango), and incorporate other patterns and textures into your wedding look (seersucker, burlap, polka dots, or vintage lace). This will give you a patriotic vibe, but your decor will still feel wedding-centric.

2. Make a statement with an American flag. We didn't say you couldn't feature any flags at your wedding! Do you have a tattered vintage flag, or an oversized pennant? Make it the center of attention! We suggest hanging your flag as a ceremony backdrop or above your cake. We also love the look of incorporating the flag into your wedding portraits or photo booth.

3. Serve up something sentimental. From sea to shining sea, America has so many great local bites, not to mention the foods that will remind every guest of their childhood holiday picnics. You could go classic (think: mom's apple pie, s'mores), incorporate mini foods from different regions into your menu (Kansas City barbecue and Philly cheesesteak sliders), or stick with the best fare from your hometown. After years of eating fancy wedding food, guests appreciate the recent shift to delicious foods that they actually recognize.

4. Let sparks fly. Traditionally, American holidays are celebrated with sparklers and fireworks; bring that idea to your wedding with a sweet sendoff. If you're planning to have an indoor venue and don't want to deal with fireworks, keep the sparkling sentiment by giving guests mini confetti poppers filled with red, white, and blue confetti.
