Ugg Is Sick Of Being Pigeonholed For Its Boots

$

When most people think of Ugg boots, they picture this:

ugg boots

The company that makes Ugg boots would rather you picture this:

ugg boots

The model in this Ugg ad is wearing Ugg boots, but she is drawing on an $795 Ugg-branded sheepskin area rug with a $145 Ugg pillow on the chair behind her. Oh -- and she's Ernest Hemingway's great-great-granddaughter, sketch artist Langley Fox Hemingway.

Seeking to avoid the fashion dustbin of history, Ugg Australia is plugging away at diversifying its brand. It launches a new advertising campaign on Monday with the tagline "THIS IS UGG" in an attempt to portray Ugg as "universal," with items for men, women, kids and the home -- not just one style of sheepskin winter boots. In addition to Hemingway, the ads feature New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Connie Rishwain, president of Ugg, told The Huffington Post in an interview this week that she doesn't want Ugg to be "stereotyped" as a mere footwear brand.

Indeed, the brand sells all kinds of stuff these days. Ugg debuted a home goods line in October: knit pillows, blankets and sheepskin rugs. In 2011, Ugg launched a pricier fashion line called Ugg Collection, made in Italy. In 2012, Ugg opened its first men's store. Rishwain said Ugg is trying to go for a year-round feel by offering products under the Ugg name that shoppers can use at different times of the year.

As a result, Ugg now sells a host of things to wear: Boots, slippers, sneakers, sandals, wedges, winter gloves and hats, coats, shirts and handbags. It includes pricey fashion items like $375 Italian leather harness boots and a $215 python-embossed calf hair clutch. You can even buy an puffy, fuzzy sleeve for a smartphone.

Of course, branching away from a core product isn't always a winning strategy. Another big shoe brand, Crocs, tried a similar move in 2009, but took things too far, the company admitted in July. By putting its name on so many different styles of shoes, Crocs strayed too far away from its heritage, bewildering customers by selling plastic, hole-punched clogs alongside fancy high heels.

Reflecting on the rise of Ugg boots in the mid-2000s, Rishwain said she loved all the press and PR when celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton were spotted with the classic sheepskin boot on their feet. But it's not 2003 anymore. A decade after Ugg boots became popular, few besides teenagers in Santa Barbara wear them like that, said Rishwain.

"We were really well known for that and it was photographed a lot," said Rishwain. "Ugg has really evolved over the years to be so much more than the boot."

Founded in California in 1978 as Ugg Imports, the boots burst into popularity in the early-2000s after being featured by Oprah Winfrey on her television show, sparking a teenage fashion frenzy. Deckers Outdoor Corp., which bought the brand in 1995 and is now Ugg's parent company, reaped the profit. In 2013, the brand raked in nearly $1.3 billion in sales.

Over the years, Ugg has fought constant criticism. The high fashion crowd has largely dismissed the boots as ugly. Podiatrists have said the boots don't provide proper support, leading to health problems. A U.K. judge warned that the boots are dangerous to wear while driving. Animal rights group PETA mobilized against Ugg, accusing the company of "extreme cruelty to animals."

In spite of it all, the brand has done quite well lately for Deckers. In July, it announced a 22.8 percent spike in Ugg sales to $123.3 million for the quarter, up from $100.4 million the same period the year before.

Sam Poser, an analyst at Sterne Agee, wrote in a note to clients that Deckers, which also owns brands Teva and Sanuk, is benefitting from a trend toward comfort, as clothes like stretchy leggings and yoga pants become increasingly popular.

"Products across brands and categories are gaining momentum," including Ugg, wrote Poser. "Deckers is set up well for the future."

As much as Ugg wants to branch out, it remains dependent on the original shearling boot it owes its success to. The Women's Classic Short boot, which sells for $155, remains the brand's best-seller.

According to the company's market research, Ugg needs the classic boot to attract first-time buyers, who then go on to buy other kinds of products. So, Ugg tries to keep the boot updated. Compared with its days as a teen fashion craze, the stout little booties are now a bit slimmer, with new soles. Designers have added styles with embellishments, bows, embroideries and buttons.

And that boot is here to stay, whether the haters like it or not. In interviews with HuffPost earlier this year, fashion psychologists and stylists told HuffPost that the classic Ugg boot has surpassed fad status, earning a permanent place on women's feet.

"They have become the winter flip-flop," fashion consultant Kate Schelter told HuffPost at the time. "A banal essential that people cling to out of comfort and freezing temperatures."

Is this a wig or the real deal?

Lena Dunham surprised her Instagram followers on August 15 when she posted a photo of herself sporting a drastically new 'do. The natural brunette unveiled her new platinum blonde bowl cut along with a simple caption, "change is good":

Hm. Seems legit? Maybe Dunham got used to the blonde look when she reenacted Sia's "Chandelier" music video on "Late Night With Seth Meyers."

We'd love to trust Lena, but we're still kind of scarred from when Kim Kardashian fooled us all when she rocked a blonde wig. Guess only time will tell!

Katy Perry got her nose pierced and now we can relive the pain with her. She posted a video of the whole ordeal on Instagram and wrote, "Last time I did this I was on my own with a safety pin & cube of ice @ 13. This time I thought it was best I left it to the pro's. Sorry mom (again)."

She hasn't debuted any jewelry just yet, but we're hoping her lil' nose stud will shoot whipped cream or dragon fire or something.

The Rope Braid Is The Hottest Style In Hollywood Right Now

$

If you're getting tired of wearing the same old French or fishtail braid, take a hair cue from Hollywood's hot young stars.

At the 2014 Teen Choice Awards, a few celebrities hit the red carpet wearing rope braids. Both Nina Dobrev and Shay Mitchell sported twisted plaits that fell to one side. By maintaining lots of volume at their crown of their head with side-swept bangs, the two actresses looked youthful yet sophisticated.

See their rope braid hairstyles below, and find out which other celebs made this week's best and worst beauty list.

BEST: Nina Dobrev

nina dobrev

The 25-year-old looks super sweet with her chestnut strands styled in this thick rope braid. Her lighter hair ends play off the colors in her crop top outfit, and smokey eye makeup gives Dobrev's look some edge.

BEST: Shay Mitchell

shay mitchell

Mitchell's textured rope braid balances out the sexiness of her white lace number and her '90s-inspired burgundy lips.

BEST: Bella Thorne

bella thorne

This former Disney star is all grown up with her flaming red hair styled in loose curls and soft makeup. The simple hairstyle balances out her bright blue sleeveless dress.

BEST: Chloe Grace Moretz

chloe grace moretz

Days later, we're still obsessed with Moretz's bedhead hairstyle. And now that we know the secret to achieving this look, you best believe we'll be copying it.

BEST: Taylor Swift

taylor swift

Swift is bronzed and beautiful! What keeps her from appearing too orange is that there are no obvious faux tan lines. And this girl can wear the hell out of a red lip.

WORST: Maddie Hasson

maddie hansen

The "Twisted" actress tried her hand at the rope braid, but it got lost in translation with the severeness of her ponytail.

WORST: Hailee Steinfeld

hailee steinfeld

We applaud Steinfeld for taking a risk with her eye makeup and incorporating colors found in her blouse. However, the graphic liner and powder pink blush and lipstick clashes.

WORST: Taylor Swift

taylor swift

Yes, the country singer is on both the best AND worst dressed lists. She missed the marked at the Teen Choice Awards with this mullet hairdo that ages her and electric purple eyeliner that makes Swift look extremely tired.

WORST: Zendaya

zendaya

Supermodel Tyra Banks called out Zendaya for stealing her wavy bob hairstyle, and we think the comparison is canny. The 17-year-old's version looks way too wiggy, in our opinion.

WORST: Cat Deeley

cat deely

We get what the English TV host was attempting to do here with her hair and makeup, but her clumpy eyelashes, bold blush and red-orange lipstick creates a cartoonish effect.

We all have our favorite closet staples that we wear day in and day out. And so do our favorite stars, apparently.

This week, Jessica Alba was spotted carrying her Saint Laurent printed leather clutch a total of five times. And we can't blame her -- it's the perfect summer accessory.

Animal print is especially great because it acts like a neutral but delivers a punch that amps up any outfit (note how it works with everything from a feminine pink dress to an all-black ensemble). Shop Alba's clutch here, or a cheaper version below!

White often gets a bad rap. It's hard to keep clean, questionable after Labor Day and as a paint color of one's choice, it's typically thought of as boring.

But rules are meant to be broken, especially when it comes to the way you decorate your home. And thanks to the designers who submitted their work to our friends at Porch.com, we have just the kitchens, bedrooms and more that prove a color-free approach is anything but "unimaginative."

10 Tips For Treating A Bad Sunburn

$

By Melaina Juntti for Men's Journal

You were out on the boat all day, you forgot to reapply sunscreen and before you knew it, you scored a nasty sunburn. Or maybe you were just mowing the lawn for an hour -– maybe it was even cloudy -– and it didn't even cross your mind to put on sunscreen. Now you're scorched.

No matter how many times we're told we should use sunscreen every day, sometimes we fail. And when that happens, and your skin is blazing red, you've got to treat it. "Sunburn may seem like just a temporary situation," says Robert Friedman, M.D., a dermatologist at New York University's Langone Medical Center. "It looks bad, it hurts, it peels, but it can also cause long-lasting damage to the skin, such as wrinkles or even skin cancer."

That's because sunburn directly damages the DNA of skin cells, says Whitney Bowe, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City. "Although prevention is best, if you quickly treat a sunburn, you might have a shot at minimizing the damage done to the cells," Bowe says. "You want to help the skin repair itself as quickly as possible." Here's what to do.

Get Out Of The Sun
This sounds like a no-brainer, but it's crucial –- and something people too often don't do. "As soon as a sunburn becomes evident, get out of the sun," says Bowe. Some damage has already been done, and you don't want to harm your skin any more. That means moving the backyard BBQ inside, calling it a day in the garden or popping up the umbrella at your patio table. "Stay out of the sun until the burn fades," says Friedman.

Assess The Damage
sunburn flip flops
Most sunburns aren't severe enough to send you to the ER. Even if a couple of small blisters pop up, it's usually safe to treat the burn at home. "But if you develop blisters on more than 20 percent of your body, seek medical attention immediately," says Bowe. You should also head to the hospital if you feel nauseous, get intense chills or run a fever.

Take A Pain Reliever
For sunburns that you can treat on your own, over-the-counter painkillers can take the edge off. If the burn's not so bad –- mainly your skin just feels a little tender -– Friedman suggests popping an ibuprofen (Advil), which acts as an anti-inflammatory to reduce swelling and ease pain. If you also have a headache or mild chills, go with acetaminophen (Tylenol), he says.

Take A Cool Bath
It's also important to cool the skin down, says Friedman, but skip the shower -– the continual blast of water on your scorched skin will not feel good. "I suggest taking a bath to cool down the skin gently," Friedman says. Also skip the soap, which will dry skin out even more. Instead, add a few scoops of baking soda to your bath. It's cooling and helps your skin retain moisture.

Use Aloe
If you're away from home and can't catch a bath, blot your burned body with a cold compress to draw out the heat. Or smear on aloe vera. "Aloe is a cooling agent and an anti-inflammatory," Friedman says. Get the oozy juice straight from an aloe plant if you have one, or else use a store-bought gel.

Avoid Benzocaine And Lidocaine
When you got sunburned as a kid, your mom might have broken out the big aerosol can of Solarcaine and sprayed you down. We're guessing it hurt like hell. That's because it contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic that at first stings the skin, then numbs it with the end goal of cooling it down. It tends to work, but Bowe cautions against using sprays, lotions and creams with lidocaine or benzocaine (a similar chemical) because they can cause irritation and allergic reactions.

Use Lots Of Lotion
After your bath or compress cool-down, slather on lotion. But if you have any small blisters, leave those spots alone, Friedman warns. "When choosing a lotion, reach for something that is both moisturizing and hydrating so that it helps trap moisture in the skin," Bowe says. "Look for ingredients like ceramides, glycerin or soy. I also like lotions that contain oatmeal, which is particularly soothing. Some fancier creams contain antioxidants like vitamins C and E, which can also help tame inflammation in the skin. But avoid creams with petroleum, because those will trap heat in your skin." Friedman adds that dabbing on small amounts of 0.5 percent or 1 percent hydrocortisone cream, sold over the counter, for a day or two can relieve some discomfort.

Drink Water
sunburn treatment
"Bad sunburns cause a process called vasodilation, where your blood vessels dilate and you lose water from your skin very quickly," says Bowe. "This can lead to dehydration, fatigue and even heat stroke if not treated." Start sipping water immediately and keep drinking it to be sure you stay hydrated. "Coconut water or other waters with added electrolytes can be even more effective at preventing dehydration," Bowe adds.

Don't Touch The Blisters
Leave it alone. Period. "Picking or peeling burned skin or popping blisters can lead to permanent scarring," says Bowe.

Don't Get Burned Twice
Don't let yourself forget how much sunburn sucks. Use your current misery as motivation to get in the habit of applying broad-spectrum sunblock every day, especially through the rest of the summer. Look for one that is SPF 30 to 50, guards against both burn-causing UVB rays and wrinkle- and cancer-causing UVA rays and is water-resistant so it'll stay put when you sweat or swim. Mineral-based blocks with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide tend to work best. Apply 15 minutes before heading outside, and reapply every two hours.

You're Going to Want to Make Out with Whoever Designed These Pants

$

For the record, I am a happily married mother of one. But that doesn't stop me from wanting to make out with the person/people who decided that this fall would be the season of the slouchy, stretchy pant.

To be fair, I am probably THE target audience for these designers: I still have the post-baby bulge around my stomach, I value comfort pretty much above all else and, most of all, I'm super lazy. As such, these pants practically sing to me. The pairs I'm most drawn to have elastic waistbands, just enough give, hit me perfectly at the ankles and are, for the most part, machine washable.

So who's behind them? As we learned from good ole Meryl in "The Devil Wears Prada," the fashion industry has a trickle-down effect. So if that means I have to go make out with Anna Wintour, herself, so be it. I'm just so happy knowing that I have all fall -- and then some -- to wear these pants with boots, flats, hell, even slippers.

While I've found my favorites at all the usual haunts -- J.Crew, Urban Outfitters, The Gap -- there are plenty to go around. FYI, when looking online, they're usually listed as track pants or under "casual" pants.

Here are my favorites --some I've purchased, some I'll just gawk at from afar -- for fall.

Heidi Klum Wears Dress Made Of Tiny Strings, Spins Around A Lot At The Creative Arts Emmys

Heidi Klum arrived at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last night, August 16, in a dress made entirely of tiny strings by "Project Runway" contestant Sean Kelly. Since the tiny strings fell flat when standing still, Klum was required to twirl aggressively across the red carpet. She spun around and around, likely as Tim Gunn whispered in her ear to propel her forward. "Make it work," he said, probably. Anyway, here is the dress.

Stylist Who Spends Every Sunday Cutting Hair For Homeless: 'Every Human Life Is Worth The Same'

$

Mark Bustos is a hair stylist at an upscale salon in New York City, but not all of his clientele have to be wealthy to get a quality trim. Sometimes, they don't need a penny.

Bustos spends every Sunday -- his only day off from work -- venturing through the city in search of anyone in need who'd appreciate a haircut. Approaching each person with the same, simple phrase -- "I want to do something nice for you today" -- Bustos provides cuts to up to six people every Sunday, capturing many stylings on his Instagram account.

Bustos has been cutting hair for the less fortunate since May 2012, when he traveled to the Philippines to visit family members. While abroad, he paid an owner of a barbershop to rent a chair and provide services to impoverished children in need of a fresh look.

"The feeling was so rewarding, I decided to bring the positive energy back to NYC," Bustos, 30, told The Huffington Post in an email, noting he's also given haircuts to the needy in Jamaica, Costa Rica and Los Angeles.

One of Bustos' clients, Jim from Long Beach, California, who'd just been released from prison two weeks before his haircut. "Every human life is worth the same," Bustos wrote in the caption. "We all deserve a second chance."

Of all the meaningful haircuts Bustos has given over the years, one recipient sticks out.

"Jemar Banks -- I'll never forget the name," Bustos told HuffPost. "After offering him a haircut and whatever food he wanted to eat, he didn't have much to say throughout the whole process, until after I showed him what he looked like when I was done ... The first thing he said to me was, 'Do you know anyone that's hiring?'"

Bustos made sure to catch Jemar's haircut on camera:

Bustos said he cuts hair all over New York City, often accompanied by his girlfriend, who asks recipients what food they'd like to eat.

"One response we've gotten is, 'Nobody ever asks me what I actually want. I usually just get leftovers and scraps,'" Bustos told HuffPost.

Bustos said he intentionally cuts hair for the homeless in open, well-traveled spaces like street corners and sidewalks so that the public can watch -- "not to see me," he notes, but so that others can find inspiration in the good deed, and be kind to those less unfortunate as well.

"Even a simple smile can go a long way," Bustos told HuffPost.

29 Tips for Surviving Your Friends Getting Married

$

Pinterest. Rustic charm. $200 bridesmaid dresses. If these things sound familiar, you may be at that time in your life where pretty much all of your friends are getting hitched. And for those of us that aren't (at least not right now), it can be pretty exhausting.

At Literally, Darling we've rounded up a list of 30 tips and tricks to surviving the 10-year wedding season known as your 20s (and probably your 30s, too). Mazel tov.

  1. Bridesmaid dresses, plane tickets, hotels, gifts... dig out that spare cash, 'cause you're about to go broke. It seriously might be worth setting aside a wedding fund.

  2. Bring Gatorade to outdoor weddings -- get the small ones that you can throw in a purse. Also, give one to the bride -- a lot of times they forget to maintain those electrolytes and the last thing anyone needs is a fainting bride.

  3. Splurge on the most comfortable pair of black pumps you can find.

  4. Experiment with the variety of shoe inserts out there for slipping toes and padding heels -- they do work!

  5. Eat something and drink plenty of water before going to the ceremony (especially outdoor weddings!). Chances are you won't get to eat for a while. Throw a power bar in that purse, girl.

  6. We get it -- you're in your 20s and shelling out cash and spending vacation time going to all these weddings is hard. But a) you'll (probably) have a blast and b) this is a pivotal moment in your friend's life and your friendship may be damaged if you are not there.

  7. When it's dancin' time -- dance! The newlyweds will thank you because there's nothing worse than having a party with a DJ and no one is dancing.

  8. The alcohol may be flowing and you want to celebrate your friends' everlasting love (and maybe pick up one of those wedding crashers), but keep in mind someone's grandma is there. Dress classy, drink tastefully and show off your new twerking moves another time.

  9. Invest in a few dresses (or outfits) that you feel comfortable in, won't fade or rip and are not white.

  10. If you're in an outdoor summer wedding party, have a roll of paper towels on hand for the pre-ceremony wait. No one wants pit stains on their bridesmaid dress before the party's even started.

  11. Two words: waterproof mascara.

  12. You may be anxious of this reminder that you're growing older and are still single, or churches and religion make you feel uneasy, but the bottom line is weddings are just really awesome parties. Once you're there, you'll forget all about anything except how happy your friends are and have fun!

  13. Don't be offended if you're not invited to the wedding. Remember that your friend has had to cut down her list of guests (and that her spouse-to-be has done the same), suck it up, and send her a note with well wishes! Her wedding isn't about you anyway.

  14. Eat cake. Even if it's dry and terrible. Cake is still cake.

  15. If you don't get a "plus-one" with your invitation, you can cry about it for about three minutes and then you have to let it go. Not receiving a plus-one is not the end of the world and you have to remember even the most elaborate weddings still have a catering budget to adhere to. Find your friends on the guest list and plan with them.

  16. If you're in the wedding, no matter how many brides tell you that you can TOTALLY wear the bridesmaids dress again, do not get your hopes up. Smile. Nod. Agree with her. Pay (the ridiculous amount) for the dress. And always know, you most definitely will never be able to wear that dress again. That's OK; everyone loved the movie 27 Dresses, anyway.

  17. Stain stick. The bride's wearing white, you're wearing something nice, everyone's drinking red wine. Enough said.

  18. If you are friends with a young bride-to-be, make an effort to HELP HER. Contribute ideas, provide support and reach out to her to see if she needs anything. She is likely crumbling under the stress of planning by herself, especially with the added pressure of fighting everyone's condescending cynicism about marrying young. She will forever be grateful for that time you stayed up with her until 2 a.m. on a Wednesday addressing envelopes, and even offering to pick someone up at the airport can go a long way.

  19. Choose a purse that will hold the essentials (e.g., phone, lipstick and tissues, plus your ID and cash if it's not open bar) but won't be a b*tch to carry around or hard to tuck away under your seat. No one wants to bump up against your cute but spike-adorned crossbody bag on the dancefloor.

  20. If you are asked to be in the wedding party, you must be able to get through bullsh*t and emotional meltdowns that may follow with an encouraging smile. If this sounds beyond you, it's probably best for everyone if you politely decline.

  21. If you are subject to chafing or the dreaded chub rub -- WEAR SPANX. Or bike shorts. Or tights. Or try Bandelettes. Anything to keep your thighs dry and happy. You don't want to be waddling between your seat and the bar.

  22. Take pictures! Oftentimes candid shots by guests become the couple's favorite photos from the event. If you don't want to be glued to your phone the whole time, bring a disposable camera and scan or mail the prints (we know, gasp, snail mail) to the couple. It'll be a really fun surprise for them when they think they've seen all they're going to see from the professional photographer.

  23. Dude, sunscreen. Outdoor weddings are overwhelmingly popular during the summer and can result in some uncomfortable and oddly placed sunburns and tanlines if you don't layer up.

  24. Prime your makeup, ladies! This is going to be a long event, and you should expect some of your makeup to wear down due to time and sweat. Primer helps keep it on and in one place, and there are different kinds for basically every type of makeup.

  25. AFTER you prime, set your makeup so that it won't get all drippy and gross -- especially if you're outside.

  26. Don't be afraid to say no. While you want to be there for your friends special day, if it will bankrupt you or it's simply not feasible for you at that time, explain that to them and wish them well. We can't all afford the bridesmaid trip, the bachelorette party, the bridal shower gift, the bridesmaid dress, the travel, hotel and wedding gift, and if they're a good friend, they'll understand.

  27. Support group: If it's a mutual friend, get your group and go together. Save on the hotel and carpool -- it will help with the funding and make it more fun for you too.

  28. Learn who the problem family members are and help your pals run interference. Nothing is more stressful than family squabbles, so be your charming self and help keep the peace.

  29. Don't be afraid to grab a guy or gal from the sidelines to join in the dancing. All it means is you're a little less shy than they are and they might be grateful to you for bringing them in for the good times.

When 'Power In Numbers' Might Work Against Women At Work, Says Study

By: Chad Brooks, BusinessNewsDaily Senior Writer
Published: /15/2014 08:53 AM EDT on BusinessNewsDaily

Does competition make women less effective when working in teams? While many successful career women might say otherwise, new research suggests it's true.

A study from Washington University in St. Louis finds that the benefits of adding women to workplace teams — increased collaboration and creativity — only shine through when competition isn't involved.

When competition is added into the mix, those benefits evaporate, said Markus Baer, one of the study's authors and an associate professor of organizational behavior at Washington University in St. Louis.

Researchers discovered that men benefit creatively from going head-to-head with other groups, while groups of women operate better in less competitive situations. As intergroup competition heats up, men become more creative and women's creativity drops.

"My hunch is that women disengage from the creative process because they anticipate that they will enjoy the process less if it involves competition," Baer told Business News Daily. "Women might see themselves as less competitive and probably sense that others may not expect them to do well either."

Baer said for men, the opposite holds true; collaboration and creativity go way up when men work in teams that are competing against each other. [4 Ways to Make Your Employees More Creative ]

"They really become a social unit and rely on each other more when forced to compete," Baer said. "My guess is that because men see themselves as more competitive, and we typically expect men to do well in competitive circumstances, they get more excited about the task at hand and fully engage it as well as each other."

The researchers found, however, that women do stand out in group settings when competition isn't involved. When teams work side by side, women tend to perform better, and even outperform men, in terms of creativity, Baer said.

Researchers said the results should warn businesses against using competition in all situations in which they want to stimulate creativity. Since competition isn't going to help women, and will probably hurt their creativity, managers should look for different methods of motivation, Baer said.

"Business should balance competition between teams by building in opportunities for teams to also collaborate," Baer said. "This could be achieved by encouraging teams to share important advancements they have made with other teams, by rotating members between competing teams, etc."

The study's findings are based on an experiment involving male and female college students working together in groups, as well as data gathered from 50 teams of scientists, engineers and technicians at a global oil and gas company.

The study was co-authored by Greg Oldham, of Tulane University; Abhijeet Vadera, of the Indian School of Business in India; and Roger Leenders, of Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

A Solution To The Worst Things About Plus-Size Denim Shopping Is Finally Here

Shopping for the perfect pair of jeans can be a nightmare for anyone. For plus-size women, who arguably have even fewer fashionable options to choose from, finding a great pair of denim pants can be even more difficult.

But Fashion to Figure, a trendy plus-size retailer, hopes to change that experience with its new denim collection. The retailer has teamed up with eight fashion bloggers to create a look book of stylish, comfortable jeans sized 12-26.

The new collection addresses many issues shoppers face, particularly the painful experience of walking into a store and learning that only certain sizes are available. "The most challenging thing about shopping denim in-store is when they don't carry your size. I literally want to cry," Love Brown Sugar's Christina Brown told The Huffington Post in a statement. Fashion to Figure will carry sizes 12-26 in stores and online.

Although there are some fashionable retailers who carry larger sizes, there are rarely enough options that fit different body types. Fashion blogger Kelly Augustine told The Huffington Post, "As a woman with wide hips and a small waist, I've always had issues with 'waist gap' in my jeans. You're tugging at it all day, there's bunching when you put a belt on, and you always have to wear a shirt long enough to cover the chaos."

Between the redesign of its denim collection and the launch of a plus-size fashion blog, the company has certainly taken strides to provide all women with the awesome denim choices they deserve. Check out some of the photos from the look book below, and head to Fashion To Figure to purchase.

Meet Marcel Floruss, One Of The Best Dressed Men On Instagram

Marcel Floruss is not your average Instagram user.

With the looks of a model and the fashion sense of a stylist, Floruss runs one of the most influential male Instagram accounts out there. His images look like they are out of GQ or Esquire, which is impressive considering Floruss is only 23 years old and a student at FIT.

A former professional dancer in his native Germany, Floruss' style is from a bygone era. His brand, "One Dapper Street," looks exactly how it sounds: clean-cut suits, crisp leather accessories and preppy daytime ensembles -- all topped off with his impeccably-tousled brown locks. And while some of his looks remind us of stylish gentlemen from decades past, there's something delightfully modern about his approach to everyday style. We sat down with Floruss and get the lowdown on his favorite looks and must-have pieces for fall.

HuffPost Style: What is one piece you can't live without?

Marcel Floruss: Right now I’d say my Birkenstocks. German, (luckily) fashion-forward, and oh-so-perfect for the summer.

Where do you get your outfit inspiration?

Mostly the streets and Instagram, from fellow blogger-friends or random people I follow.

What are the top five items every man should have in his closet?

A navy, double-breasted blazer. The matching suit pants. A white shirt. A white T-shirt. Cognac Oxfords.

What's your favorite trend that you're seeing for fall?

Can I make it two? For one, lots of fedoras, loving that NYC-gangster vibe. Second, the fact that slim pants finally seem to have made a return to the stage, away from the very wide-leg pants, which just haven’t made the transition from runway to the streets for too many seasons now.

Do you have any fashion icons?

Is it bad to say I don’t really have any? They change a lot for me, almost from day to day, as I try to be as open as possible, and would rather not focus on single individuals. Of course renowned individuals like Nick Wooster for more avant-garde styles, and David Gandy for Dapper inspiration pop up more often than others.

Style Secrets To Make Your Clothes Fit Better

Let the experts show you how to make the finery in your closet that much finer.

3 Ways To Look Sharp

Raina Blyer, New York-based tailor

A little pinch at the hem of a pencil skirt or a dress that hits at the knee will make you look curvy and your outfit more high-end.

Cheaper brands often make jacket sleeves wide so they can accommodate a large cross section of women. Getting rid of some of the fabric in the upper arm will help create a sharper cut.

Because many pieces are made to fit a wide range of shapes, people often complain about having a gap at the back of the waistband of their pants or skirts. A tailor can easily take that in and add flattering darts.

2 Ways To Make Your Shoes Fit So Much Better

David Mesquita, co-owner of New York’s Leather Spa shoe repair

A cobbler can lengthen or widen most snug-fitting shoes by as much as a half size for around $15. If they’re relatively new, you can stretch them yourself. Just spray either the inside or outside with shoe stretch spray (available at shoe repair shops or drugstores) and wear them while they’re still damp. The shape of your foot will help soften the leather and break in your shoes. If they still rub in a particular area, cover it with a piece of adhesive moleskin, which will reduce any friction.

High heels don’t have to hurt. You can shorten some styles by a quarter of an inch. That little bit can change the angle of your shoes and make a big difference.

1 Way To Put It All Together

Jerry Pozniak, owner of the high end dry cleaner Jeeves NY

Get your clothes professionally pressed. A pro can roll out the lapels, steam the sleeves and remove creases much more thoroughly than you can at home, often for half the cost of standard dry cleaning. You’ll look better and save a few dollars at the same time.
