Justin Timberlake Calls Madonna His 'Ninja,' Outrage Ensues

Here's perhaps the best advice one could give a celebrity trying to navigate the world of social media: Think before you tweet, and choose your words carefully. For you will be judged.

Us Weekly reports that Justin Timberlake is the latest celebrity to feel the wrath of Twitter, after he wished Madonna a happy 56th birthday on Aug. 16. His choice of words didn't sit well with many:

"A happiest of Bdays to my mother chucking ninja, @Madonna!! Hope you have a great one, M!" Timberlake reportedly wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted.

Almost immediately, Twitter users began calling out the 33-year-old singer for his use of the word, which is viewed by many a still-troublesome substitute for the word "n****":

Timberlake has since deleted the tweet and most recently retweeted:

This Is What The MTV VMAs Looked Like In 2004

0
0
The 2004 MTV VMAs don't look all that different from the event you may find yourself tuning into on Sunday, Aug. 24. Many of the major players are still famous today, but it should be noted that it was only a decade ago that there was not a Kardashian in sight. But seriously, the 2004 VMAs were held at Miami's American Airlines Arena where P. Diddy kicked things off by arriving via luxury yacht, Beyonce and Jay Z were just a little too matchy-matchy, and, mercifully, it was the first year they decided to forgo a host. Let's take a trip down memory lane before this year's awards.

Only at Tulane, Only in New Orleans

Every student of Tulane University has heard this statement, and it perfectly sums up the experience of attending school in NOLA. It's impossible to talk about Tulane and its fashion scene without first understanding the city that encompasses it.

When I tell people what school I go to it's often the same response; questions about Mardi Gras or how often I go to Bourbon Street. What most people don't know is that the city is so much more than just a place to go out and drink. Entering New Orleans feels like stepping into another country because there is truly no other city in the U.S. like it. The first thing I noticed aside from the initial blast of heat while leaving the airport, is the diversity in the city. The diversity has been perfectly described as a "pot of gumbo." The city can trace its roots back to Native Americans, Africa, France, Ireland, Spain and more and these influences can be seen everywhere, from the citizens to the architecture to the food. The people of New Orleans are outgoing, free-spirited, welcoming and eccentric, creating a fashion scene unlike anywhere else. Fashion in NOLA has been thriving in recent years, especially since the start of New Orleans Fashion Week. Numerous designers have popped up in the city and new boutiques open all the time. It's only a matter of time before the city is known for its style along with its food and music.

The individuality of the location of Tulane has led to a unique and evolving campus style. Students come from all over the country and each bring a piece of their home with them. Northeastern students bring their dark colors, leather boots and trendy pieces, West Coast students bring their beach-ready bohemian looks and those from the South bring their preppy style. All of these come together to form the Tulane fashion scene, which, just like the population of New Orleans, can be compared to a pot of gumbo.

Every student finds inspiration in the surrounding city and the individual styles of their classmates. While the unique backgrounds and ethnicities of students mold campus style, there is one unifying influence, the heat. For the first and last months of classes, the biggest challenge when getting dressed is how to look stylish while still keeping cool. Crop tops and skirts, T-shirts and soft shorts or loose sundresses are the go-to outfits for students to beat the heat. When it finally becomes sweater weather (yes, 70 degrees is cold enough for sweaters), layering is a must. The weather in New Orleans is unpredictable because it may start off freezing in the morning and turn into a day warm enough to swim. Students are used to piling on sweaters and scarves and picking transition pieces that can be made into a summer or fall look.

This Fashionista encompasses the Tulane style with her bohemian look. Her combination of a crop top and loose floral pants is ideal for a hot day in New Orleans. Her white crop top helps her stay cool in the summer heat and the daisy soft pants are fun, eye-catching and a perfect transition piece for fall. Her hat shields the strong sun from her face and her funky jewelry adds her own touch to the look. Students love to get dressed up for all the festivals we attend or a day in the stylish French Quarter and this look is perfect to look and keep cool.

With all the fun things to do in the city it's sometimes hard to remember that I actually have classes to attend. Still, Tulane students are hardworking, passionate and always stylish. Everyone brags about the college they go to but while there are great things about every university, I can't help but believe that my school offers an incomparable college experience. Tulane and New Orleans have everything I could ever want; amazing food, weekly festivals, a constant nightlife, and of course, a unique fashion scene allowing me to explore my personal style and gain constant inspiration.

Amy Poehler Says What We're All Thinking About Art World Pretensions

0

Are we dreaming? Or is that really Amy Poehler making the art world parody of our wildest dreams in the video above?

Poehler channels Edith Head in her latest commercial for Old Navy, donning a chic blonde bowl cut, a black cape, and lots of smack talk regarding art world bullsh*t.

The comedienne spouts mad knowledge of the inner workings of the art world in the commercial outtake above, shedding light on the ridiculous habits of art-speak we, sadly, know all too well. Our personal favorite nugget of wisdom has to be: "This is a challenging piece. It’s so stupid it's hard to understand, and that can be interesting."

We always suspected this was the logic behind some of the more dubious New York art shows.

The forty-five seconds of comedy gold above confirm our suspicion there are few things in life more enjoyable than a spot-on satire of the art world. Well done, Amy, well done. You really gave "Portlandia" a run for its money.

Is This The Worst Mall Commercial Of All Time?

0

We've seen our fair share of ridiculous local commercials, but these people deserve a medal for being roped into what could possibly be the worst mall ad ever.

After seeing it, you might want to "get yourself an outfit" and some back-to-school supplies at East Hills Mall in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Or you might want to run for the hills... west of the mall.

This commercial is so bad it's good, but some Redditors suspect it's a fake by viral video creators Rhett & Link, who are known for their fabricated local ads.

If you spot Rhett and Link in the background -- as some Redditors claim -- let us know in the comments below!

Interview: Life Lessons and Styling Advice With Celebrity Stylist, Chiara Solloa

2014-08-17-10601274_10204470078653273_1115767609_n.jpg
For Chiara Solloa, working in fashion doesn't seem like a career choice, but a fate that she could not resist. Growing up in Miami, Chiara was raised by her grandmother who designed clothing and her mother who was a clothing buyer. Chiara's styling career started in elementary school, as she went thrifting for dresses for her school's production of Cinderella.

With over a decade of professional styling experience, Chiara has styled some of our favorite music videos, commercials, and celebrities. She notes that her career has been a journey with many lessons learned, attesting that nothing comes easily.

During this interview, Chiara shared some of the best styling insight you'll ever find. She can teach us all a thing or two about chasing our goals and creating our own Cinderella stories.

Tell me about yourself and your career so far, how did you become a fashion stylist?

Let me start by mentioning my grandmother was a couture designer, two of my uncles master tailors, and my mother at the time was a clothing buyer. I guess you can say I grew up around fabric.

I was raised on Miami Beach by my grandmother and single mother. It was a time when seniors sunbathed on the hotel steps of Ocean Drive, Lincoln road had a trolley, and celebrities, models /photographers were rediscovering what we now call South beach.

My career began innately, I remember in elementary school asking my mother to take me to the thrift store so I can purchase dresses for the Cinderella play my class was putting on. I dressed the main cast, Cinderella, her evil step-sisters, and myself the wicked step-mother (laughs).

I grew up painting and in college, started working as a make up artist at a cosmetic counter. This led to working on sets and doing shoots outside of retail. I naturally started to gravitate away from makeup and into fashion. I began testing with photographers and building my book, making the right contacts and the rest is history. My career so far has been a journey of travel, experiences and lesson learned.

What advice would you give an up and coming fashion stylist?

Study your field. Getting a little fashion history under your belt can really help when a client is making references to a period of time, photographer or designer, this way you can understand their vision and know what they are talking about.

I would highly recommend a mentor. Assisting a seasoned stylist can really give you an insight into what this career is really about and if it's really something you want to do.

Keep your credit in good shape. Sometimes you might need to use your credit card. Always be responsible with items that are loaned to you.

Learn to sew a little. You might have to make emergency repairs and it helps to know how to explain to a seamstress what you want done.

Learn some accounting. You need to keep a budget of what you spend, and an inventory of what you spent that money on.

Save your money! Styling is not a regular fulltime job, it's freelance and seasonal.

I never really assisted anyone or had a mentor, so I learned mostly on my own, and it was a hard and costly road.

Lastly, I have always believed in the motto "fake it 'till you make it", don't say "I want to be..."
Proclaim it and it will happen.

What is the biggest misconception people not working in your field have about your job?

People often think that all I do is shop. There is a lot more to it, accounting, budgeting, mood boards, scheduling, inventory, emails, and meetings.

What has been the most memorable moment of your career, so far?

One of the most memorable moments in my career was being asked to be a part of a book project featuring some of the top international fashion stylists. I couldn't believe that moment when the book arrived in the mail.

What challenges do you have as a stylist?

There are clients that think I am a magician. They think I have a mall at home and can pull a polka dotted purple mink coat out of my pocket in the middle of summer. It might not be mink, but I will make it happen, even if I have to make it myself. There is a lot that goes on in the background as a stylist that many people can't even fathom.

What goals do you wish to achieve in the future?

I am the type of individual who is constantly evolving. Now that I am a mother, my goals have changed. I love fashion and it will always be an element in whatever I do. I just now want to include my son, who is my inspiration. Who knows, maybe I will drop a children's clothing line in the future? I also love film. I would love to direct a fashion documentary someday.

How do you choose what looks work for each individual client?

I usually like to do some research on my client. I get a feel for their personal style and what they have done in the past. Then, I like to have a meeting with them and discuss the project and direction.
Sometimes the client is a company and there are many other facets involved from branding a color to creating a custom piece.

I then take into account a person's body shape, season, and trends that I am feeling which will make my work standout and my client happy.

For me, styling is something spiritual, it comes from within.

Do the clothing choices you make at work inspire your personal style?

Sometimes it does. There are looks I put together that I think, "Hey I really love this for myself".
Also, when I am shopping or pulling for a client I like to hold the pieces up in front of a mirror, or even try them on to get a feel for it. Many things can look awful on a hanger and fabulous on the body.

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is very mood inspired. Some days, I feel very rock and roll and others I feel very classic and sophisticated. Some people wear their emotions on their sleeve, I guess I literally wear mine on my body.

What is your favorite item in your closet?

A pair of Chanel satin/leather pumps with a birdcage heel; they are very rare only 350 were made.

If you could choose a celebrity closet to shop in, who's would it be and why?

Do I really have to choose one?

I would say a mash up between Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Anna Wintour.

Jennifer for her sexy looks, Rihanna for her funkiness, and Anna, well you already know! Can you imagine the epic pieces she has in her archive?

Everyone loves a good deal, what are some of your favorite places to find budget buys?

H&M, Zara, Forever 21, and thrift stores.

What items do you feel are worth splurging on?

Shoes, you can gain or lose weight but your shoe size will always stay the same.

You style a lot of people in the public eye, do you consider yourself to be a trendsetter?

People don't realize, but when I am styling a music video, I am touching so many people through my work. Unconsciously, I am inspiring people watching the fashion in their favorite artist's video and it becomes a trend that trickles into in the street.

What trends are you loving right now?

The classic pump, the return of the female silhouette in knee length fitted skirts,
jeweled tones like emerald and sapphire, and raw wool textures for fall.

Which trends to you want to see disappear?

For men the infamous butt sagging pants, no one wants to see your underwear. Women the ridiculously expensive designer Birkenstock, it's still a Birkenstock, even if it's Givenchy!

If you could choose anyone to give a makeover, who would it be and why?

Hilary Clinton, she looks very conservative and bland. If she is a future candidate for the first female president, I'd like for her to embrace her feminine fashion side, and show you can be in power and fashionable at the same time.

What's the best style advice you've received?

My grandmother always told me make sure things fit you properly before you wear them out. If your pants or dress is too long hem it to your height. Things don't always come in the right length and that can make you look sloppy.

Let's say you could travel back in time to one fashion era, where would you end up? What did you like about that period?

The 50's femme fatal. I love the polished look and feminine seduction of that era. The attention to detail in the tailoring of the waistline, the accentuating of the bust, the impeccable hair styles, the cat eye, and all the fabulous accessories: hats, gloves, and jewelry.

Who is your favorite designer? Why?

Again it's hard to choose just one. I really enjoyed Christian Dior when Galliano was there, the shows were always such a production and very costume inspired. I currently love Balmain and the things they do with leather, the fall/winter collection has some beautiful jackets with military inspiration I am feeling right now.

What styling advice would you give other women?

Know your body type and what colors really flatter you best.

Describe a time early in your career where you felt you could say, 'I made it'.

I would have to say when I started getting personally requested by artists, record labels, and directors.
I would get calls from London, Germany, and Los Angeles telling me that they hear I am the best stylist in Miami. On a side note, also being able to pay the bills from styling alone, that's when I could say I made it!

Kim Kardashian Is Back In A Bikini In Mexico Because Time Is A Flat Circle

7 Unusual Facts You Didn't Know About Coco Chanel

0
0
Coco Chanel may be famous for her incredible sense of style and amazing quotes, but she also led one of fashion's most interesting lives.

For the 131st anniversary of Chanel's birth, we've highlighted seven interesting facts you might not know about the iconic designer.

coco in office

1. Nuns taught Coco Chanel everything she knows.
Coco learned the sewing trade from none other than the nuns who ran Aubazine Abbey, the orphanage she grew up in.

2. Before she was a designer, she was a singer.
Before she sewed, Chanel (then known as Gabrielle) sang at La Rotunde and other Parisian cafes. While she sang "Who has seen Coco in the Trocadéro?" that led to her nickname,"Coco."

3. Chanel once had an affair with a Nazi officer.
During World War II, Chanel was linked to German intelligence officer Baron Hans Günther von Dincklage, a noted German spy. There are still rumors that Chanel was once a spy herself.

4. She was the first person to have a vanity perfume.
Chanel No. 5 is a classic -- so classic, in fact, that it was the first perfume ever to be named after its designer. We would call that the ultimate boss move.

5. World War II killed Chanel’s operations.
The war was a controversial time for the designer (see above mention of possible Nazi lover), and trouble trickled into her business in 1939, when she closed up shop. But, as we all know, she had a fierce comeback.

6. The famous "Chanel lamp posts" are not named after her.
Legend has it that the Duke of Westminster was so enthralled with his lover, Coco Chanel, that he had lamp posts in London commissioned with her initials next to his "W." Unfortunately, the initials actually stand for something quite boring -- "City Council."

7. Some of her best quotes aren't exactly what she said.
Even though the designer was renowned for her wit, over the years some of her most famous quotes have gotten skewed. For instance, the quote: '“Where should one use perfume?" a young woman asked. "Wherever one wants to be kissed"' can also be seen in many different versions (like here and here).

3 Fall Trends To Buy And 3 To Skip

0

It officially feels like shearling, leather and knit season -- or as some may call it -- pre-fall.

While you may have just wrapped your head around all the hot summer fads, it's time to start thinking about the cool weather items you're going to need come September. And don't worry, because there is no shortage of trends to choose from. But some purchases will make better investments than others.

Behold, the three best trends to spend on this year, and the three trends that are best left on the runways.

BUY: Capes

Forget the statement coat, this year is all about capes. The outerwear of the moment is a worthwhile purchase as it is versatile and can easily carry you into winter (just add layers). Opt for a cape or poncho in tartan or rich oxblood to add a pop of color to your outfit.

SKIP: Patchwork Fur

Though we love all the crazy furs we saw on the runways for fall 2014, they will definitely set you back a pretty penny. And even if you go with faux-fur, these pieces are so trendy, it's likely you won't be able to wear them for more than a season or two.

Altuzarra, Custo Barcelona, Topshop Unique, Roksanda Ilincic

BUY: Furry Accessories

While investing in a colorful fur coat might not be your best bet this fall, getting on board with fuzzy accessories is a smart move. A fur purse or belt is a cheap and easy way to update your look without dropping a lot of cash.

SKIP: Novelty Purses

Trust us, the novelty will wear off quickly. Save your money.

BUY: Long Gloves

This is one of the most practical trends to come out of Fashion Week -- the extra fabric will keep you extra toasty. Long gloves pull together any outfit, will look great with a cape and besides -- how can you possibly own too many pairs of gloves?

Pharrell's Hat Is So Famous It's Going In A Museum

Remember Pharrell Williams' hat from the 2014 Grammy Awards? The one that sparked a massive Twitter parody movement and was later sold to fast-food chain Arby's for $40,000 in a charity auction? Of course you remember!

But in case you forgot what the "Buffalo-Girls"-inspired cap designed by Vivienne Westwood looks like, you're in luck. The Washington Post reported Monday that Arby's would be loaning it to Washington DC's Newseum starting on Aug. 22. Yes, Pharrell's hat will be on display in our nation's capital city.

"The post-Grammy’s Twitter exchange between Arby’s and Pharrell about his hat was completely unexpected and has just become this remarkable moment in pop-culture this year," Chris Fuller, vice president of brand and corporate communications at Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc., told The Washington Post.

We'll have to agree with Fuller on this one. After all, anyone whose style lands them in a museum is pretty remarkable to us. The Newseum happily accepted the hat for a short-term exhibit, saying that the garment resembles the impact of social media on a news story. Check out the Vine announcement from Arby's below, and excuse us while we plan a trip to DC this weekend.

Artist Weaves Fiona Apple Lyrics Into Turkish Rugs, And We Want Them All

0

What happens when you combine the saturated, woven beauty of Turkish textiles with the dark, emotional resonance of Fiona Apple lyrics? Thanks to Germany-based artist Selma Alaçam, we have an answer to the unlikely question. In summary: pure, East-meets-West delight.

heartstrings

In her two-part series, "Heartstrings," Alaçam weaves kilims -- the flat, tapestry-esque carpets crafted in countries across the Middle East -- adorned with phrases from indie music songs. And when we say indie music songs, we mostly mean Fiona Apple lyrics. And the results are, dare we say, perfect.

"The carpet used for the artwork derives from a Pre-Islamic tradition," Galerie Bernd Kugler writes of Alaçam's work. "Here, the weaver had the rare opportunity to express her own feelings in the carpet’s specific pattern... Consequently, the viewers gaze sways between a reading aimed at understanding the text, and an undirected look that is lost in the regular movement of the pattern."

The images are indeed dizzying and, at times, difficult to read, prompting the admirer to search for the hypnotic words as they swim in the orthogonal patterns. Combining centuries-old Eastern tradition, imbued with its own visual storytelling capacity, with the profound crooning of a Western pop culture icon, Alaçam creates a hybrid style we can't help but gush over.

Behold, "Heartstrings."

Good looks run in the Nicholson family.

Jack Nicholson and his son, Ray, attended the Apollo in the Hamptons fundraising event for the Apollo Theater together at Ronald Perelman's estate on Saturday, Aug. 16. The two were photographed sitting together, smiling side-by-side, and the resemblance was striking. The 22-year-old is the spitting image of his famous father, who was just 21 years old when he appeared in "The Cry Baby Killer."

Ray Nicholson is the son of the 77-year-old actor and actress Rebecca Broussard. He has worked both in front of and behind the camera, including an assistant director role with "A Reunion."

49 Life Skills Every Modern Woman Should Have

0

This isn't the same world that our mothers and grandmothers grew up in, and although some things never go out of style (like good manners), a lot has drastically changed in the last half century.

So, here are 49 life skills every modern woman -- at least if she's between the age of, say, 22-66 -- should embrace in the year 2014.

2014-08-15-ScreenShot20140815at8.37.10AM.png

1. Make at least one great cocktail. I make a mean Pomegranate Margarita, and here's how I do it.

2. Drink without getting a hangover the next morning. Tip: Line your stomach with bread, drink one glass of water for every glass of alcohol, and don't drink more than three glasses of red wine.

3. Look good in a photo. Tip: Turn your head slightly to one side rather than look the camera head-on; stand (or sit) straight with your shoulders back; arch your back ever so slightly; don't press your arms against your body; unless you have a prominent chin, stick it out just a little to accentuate your jawline.

4. Remove unwanted body hair the most effective, painless, and affordable way possible.

5. Dump someone gracefully. Tip: Do it in person, if possible; get to the point quickly, choose a time when the other person isn't expected somewhere any time soon (like work... or a wedding); give a reasonable explanation; answer whatever questions he or she may ask.

6. Write a sincere thank-you note. Here's a great how-to.

7. Set a lovely table, no matter how casual the meal is. Here are tips for setting a pretty table for a variety of occasions.

8. Open a bottle of champagne. Like this.

9. Find someone's bridal/wedding/baby shower registry online. Tip: go to WeddingChannel.com and type in honoree's name. You'll find registries for a variety of stores. Do a "find a registry" search on Amazon, too.

10. Send a BCC group email.

11. Dress for her body type.

12. Graciously offer assistance to someone in need.

13. Book a vacation.

14. Hide a bad hair day.

15. Find the best deal. Tip: For big ticket items, always, always, always compare prices online. Then, do a "coupon" search and see if you can find a coupon code to save you even more money.

16. Write a kickass cover letter.

17. Hold a baby.

18. Wrap a gift anyone would be excited to open. Here's a great how-to.

19. Start a conversation. Tip: ask people questions about themselves, like where they grew up, how they met their significant other, or how they know the host.

20. End a conversation. Tip: If you're at a party, excuse yourself to the bathroom, pretend like you just saw someone you need to say hi to, or excuse yourself to call the babysitter. Saying you're going to get a refill doesn't work as well because the person could follow you or ask you get him or her a refill, too.

21. Pack everything she needs for a weekend getaway in one small bag.

22. Ask someone out. Tip: Don't use ambiguous language like "hang out." Have a specific activity and/or place in mind, even if it's just coffee.

23. Invest her money.

24. Use Mapquest, Googlemaps, or some other 21st century version of direction-giving.

25. Pack her purse with essentials: cash, ID, keys, phone, breath mints, chapstick or lipgloss, and a book, newspaper, or crossword puzzle to keep her occupied during a long wait or when she's trying to avoid someone on the train.

26. Prepare, order, or pay for a tasty and healthful dinner for herself and at least one guest. Here's a recipe for one of the world's easiest, healthiest -- and tastiest -- meals (pay special attention to #6).

27. Edit, upload, and print photos.

Gap is once again going back to basics.

Their recently-launched fall campaign features famous faces, of course; this time it's "Girls" star Zosia Mamet, "Mad Men" actress Elisabeth Moss and style icon/actress Anjelica Huston.

These ads are the first installment of the "Dress Normal" series, which highlights the black denim trend, and "celebrates dressing for yourself and finding those perfect items... to be your most authentic self," Gap Global Chief Marketing Officer Seth Farbman said in a press release. Gap notes that there will be more celeb models in future installments of the campaign.

The classic brand will also bring back TV advertisements, which will most likely not live up to our favorites from the past, but will probably be good enough to watch, nonetheless.

This latest campaign reminds us of their spring "Lived-In" ads -- also about relaxing our style -- and starred "Breaking Bad" actor RJ Mitte and musician Theophilus London.

Take a look at the rest of the campaign below and resist the urge to do some major fall shopping damage!

Taylor Swift Has A Long History Of Trying To Rap

Taylor Swift released her new song,"Shake It Off," on Monday, and, while some see the video as offensive, others are focused on the fact that Swift raps in the new tune. Yes, that's right, she raps:

"My ex man brought his new girlfriend /She’s like, 'Oh my God' / But I’m just gonna shake / And to the fella over there with the hella good hair / Won’t you come on over, baby? / We could shake, shake."

Surprised? Well, it was really only a matter of time, as Swift has been dipping her baby toe in the proverbial rap pond for years now. Don't believe us? Check it out:

Planning an International Bachelorette Trip? Santorini, Greece Inspiration Here

Every time I visit a new country there is usually a different reason behind that particular place. Sometimes I am sent on a press trip, other times I chose it for its affordable flights and beautiful views, and sometimes I visit places because of happy events. My recent trip to Santorini, Greece was to celebrate the upcoming wedding of a dear friend in a fabulous European bachelorette weekend.

With Santorini providing the most magnificent backdrop, we decided to create photos and memories that we would never forget. For the actual bachelorette night, all of us bridesmaids donned white dresses and flower crowns, a la Tatiana Santo Domingo's celebration, while the bride to be stood out in pink. Then, to capture the moment in editorial worthy images we brought along a photographer to help our many iPhones get a rest from the postcard views and memories being made.

Matthew McConaughey Is Bringing Back The Fanny Pack

Remember when that vintage photo of The Rock and his rockin' fanny pack resurfaced and practically broke the Internet? Of course you do.

Now there's even more good news in the fanny pack department. We no longer have to wait another 20 years for another gorgeous zippered pouch to work its way into our hearts and minds. Friends, Matthew McConaughey is bringin' back the fanny pack.

The "Dallas Buyers Club" star attended a Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros baseball game on Aug. 17, proudly sporting the convenient apparel around his waist. If that wasn't a sheer act of bravery in itself, McConaughey even verbally defended his fashion accessory in an interview.

"I'm not afraid of the fanny pack," he courageously declared to reporter Julia Morales.

"You gotta kind of put it on the side to make it look a little, not as nerdy. But still, practicality wins out. I've got so much gear in here that I don't want in my pockets."

Things got even better when Morales admitted to owning a fanny pack:

"That sounds cool!" McConaughey said. "They're coming back. They're on their way back, some decade from now."

Witness the fashion heroism here:

If that doesn't inspire you to drag out your fanny pack from 1992 and totally own it at the next social gathering you attend, nothing will.
