5 Ways To Get The Most Out Of Your Ridiculously Tiny Bathroom

$

Finding the perfect apartment can be an emotional roller coaster. It's all hashtags and housewarming until you actually step into your shower and realize how incredibly tiny it is. There goes your happiness, crashing down like your bar of soap.

But, if there's a will there's a way. You have already conquered the hardest part -- landing the apartment -- after all, and that means you can conquer that small shower sadness, too.

Here are a few brilliant ideas to help you do it.

1. Upgrade your shower head.

Don't even bother trying to move around under a tiny shower head to rinse off. Swap it out for an overhead rain head and catch all the water at once.

2. Transform your space into a cozy spa.

Hang a few sprigs of fresh herbs, like eucalyptus or rosemary, and the steam will release beneficial oils.

3. Find another surface to store your bath goods...
caddy
...Like a caddy. (Yes, there are grown-up versions.) If you get one like this, try this clever hack that'll give you makeshift dispensers for your shampoo and conditioner.

4. Combat shower curtain madness with a little tailoring.
split shower curtains
Hang two shower curtain panels instead of one (or cut the one you have in half and clean up the edges with some trim), so it's easier to get in and out of the small space.

5. Make the rest of your bathroom comfy.

If your shower is too small, limit it to washing up, and take your shaving and other grooming out into the rest of the space.

9 Wedding Hacks You Absolutely Need To Know

By Kellee Khalil for Lover.ly

Planning a wedding can be pretty stressful... which is why you need a few wedding hacks up your (pretty lace) sleeve. Read on for our top nine wedding hacks that will make sure you get down the aisle in one (completely relaxed!) piece.

1. Get a 2-tier cake for display/cutting and then serve guests from a sheet cake that's hidden in the kitchen.
2014-08-29-loverlycake82914.jpg
Photo by: Lisa Hessel Photography on Every Last Detail via Lover.ly

This will allow you to have a beautiful cake without going way over budget.

2. Attach veil weights to your veil to keep it from blowing around.

3. Set up a separate email address to use for all wedding correspondence.

Bonus: you and your spouse can use it for shared bills after you're married.

4. Ask the post office to "hand cancel" your invitations.
2014-08-29-loverlyenvelop829.jpg
Photo by: Laura Ann Miller Photography on Every Last Detail via Lover.ly

This means that instead of running your invites through a machine, they'll use a special ink stamp to mark your invitation and they'll sort it by hand, reducing the risk of the damage.

5. Number the back of all your RSVP cards.
2014-08-29-flowerinviteloverly82914.jpg

And number your guest list accordingly. If guests don't write their name on the cards (or their writing is illegible), you'll still know whose it is.

6. Have your bra sewn into your dress.
2014-08-29-dressmaidsloverly829.jpg
Photo by: Catherine Mead Photography on Bridal Musings via Lover.ly

Then you don't have to worry about your strapless bra slipping around all night.

7. If you spill red wine on your dress, dump a pile of table salt on the stain right away.
2014-08-29-wineloverly82914.jpg
Photo by: Lisa Mallory Photography on Heart Love Weddings via Lover.ly

The salt will help draw out much of the wine, and you can have the remaining stain professionally treated later.

8. If you want to wear stilettos for your outdoor wedding, slip on heel protectors.
2014-08-29-sparkshoeloverly82914.jpg
From Solemates

They increase the surface of the base of the heel, so you won't sink into the grass.

9. Freeze the top tier of your cake uncovered for about 20 minutes before wrapping it in foil.

Photo by: Erich McVey on Wedding Chicks via Lover.ly

This will prevent any icing from sticking to the foil when you wrap it to freeze for your first anniversary.

Obamas Attend Longtime Chef Sam Kass' Wedding To MSNBC Host Alex Wagner

$

POCANTICO HILLS, N.Y. (AP) — Setting aside for a few hours the pressures of trying to calm the world's trouble spots, President Barack Obama assumed the role of spectator for something more joyous: the wedding of the first family's longtime chef and friend.

Chef Sam Kass and MSNBC host Alex Wagner tied the knot Saturday at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, a farm-to-table restaurant in Pocantico Hills, just north of New York City.

The president and his chef have a close relationship, which Obama highlighted earlier this month when he spent several hours at dinner at Kass' apartment amid the turmoil in Iraq, Ukraine and Ferguson, Missouri.

It's long been said that time is a president's most precious commodity. That Obama would spend five hours at Kass' home on one of the aide's final evenings as a bachelor was a testament to their bond.

Obama's rounds of golf are often his only other outings that last as long — and those games sometimes include Kass.

Obama, his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, Malia and Sasha, attended the ceremony and reception at the restaurant, which is a favorite of both Kass and Mrs. Obama. The first lady hosted the spouses of world leaders there in 2010.

Obama wore a dark suit, and Mrs. Obama and their daughters each wore sleeveless black dresses. The first family spent about six hours at the wedding. Obama had no known role, other than to give his best to the bride and groom. The Obamas returned to the White House early Sunday.

The union of Kass, 34, and Wagner, 36, also served to highlight what some contend is too much togetherness between the media and the people they report on. Naturally, the guest list was expected to include staff from both the White House and the liberal-leaning cable news outlet, with people from both sides breaking bread at the same dinner table.

Kass began preparing meals for the Obamas when the family lived in Chicago and the Obamas persuaded him to join them at the White House. He is now among the Obamas' longest-serving aides.

Besides cooking for the family most weeknights, Kass also serves as senior nutrition policy adviser and executive director of the first lady's anti-childhood obesity initiative.

It's not unusual for presidents, including Obama, to attend or participate in weddings.

Obama hosted a Rose Garden wedding last October for Pete Souza, the president's chief official photographer.

In June 2012, Obama, his wife, daughters and mother-in-law attended the Chicago wedding of the daughter of White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett.

In May 2008, George W. Bush was in office when his daughter, Jenna, married at the family ranch in Crawford, Texas.

Bill Clinton was best man for his brother, Roger, in March 1994.

Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy, participated in the August 1984 wedding of their daughter Patti Davis. Reagan spoke one line in the ceremony. He responded "Her mother and I do" when asked who would give away the bride.

The Lipstick Shade That Will Get You Excited For Fall

$

0
Yea summer's almost done, but we're really looking forward to fall these days thanks to the pretty, fall-like lipstick shades celebs have been wearing. The shade of fall seems to be rose, and we're kinda really amazingly pumped for it.

Emma Stone made a bold statement at the Venice Film Festival sporting a new bob and magenta lips. Jamie Chung's VMA makeup popped thanks to her creamy pink pout. And Lea Michele looked lovely at a Pre-Emmy event in mauve lip gloss.

See these rose lip colors below and find out which other stars made our best and worst beauty list this week.

BEST: Emma Stone

emma stone

The "Birdman" actress looks absolutely stunning with this fresh bob haircut, which frames her round face perfectly. Eggplant eyeshadow, black mascara and Revlon ColorBurst Laquer Balm in Whimsical all complement her skin town and hunter green Valentino gown.

BEST: Jamie Chung

jamie chung

Chung always looks so posh on the red carpet. Here, she sports her signature center-parted and sleek ponytail, subtle shimmery eye makeup, winged eyeliner and CK One Pure Color Lipstick in Kiss It 420.

BEST: Lea Michele

lea michele

The 27-year-old channels legendary screen sirens Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot with this full bangs updo that hits right at her bold brows. And Michele applied enough bronzer, mascara and lip gloss to accentuate her luminous skin.

BEST: Moran Atias

moran atlas

We've been enamored by Atias' natural beauty ever since we started watching FX's "Tyrant." But we simply can't handle how glamorous she is with loose curls, bronze eyeshadow and China rose lips.

WORST: Lucy Schwartz

lucy schwartz

The singer/songwriter's youthful glow gets muddled with an unflattering yellow-orange eyeshadow and fading plum lip color. To play up her gorgeous complexion and fun bob, Schwartz should've taken a simpler approach with filled-in brows, cat-eye liner, mascara and pinkish-nude lips.

WORST: Dascha Polanco

dascha polanco

Polanco almost looks unrecognizable with the amount of makeup that she's wearing. Next time, skip the heavy eye and lip when wearing a delicate white gown.

WORST: Zendaya

zendaya

It's pretty obvious that Zendaya has been taking cues from Rihanna on what it takes to look like a pop star. We just wish the 17-year-old would embrace a fresher face.

WORST: Amanda Fuller

amanda fuller

This is a classic example of outdated hair and makeup. The grayish blonde hair color and white face makeup looks ghostly against Fuller's skin.

Fall Seems To Be On The Horizon With All The Accessories Of The Week

$

It's the end of August, which means its the annual time of fashion confusion among women pretty much everywhere. Some of us want to keep our sandals on as long as possible, while others are moving right along to scarves.

Luckily for us, we're really into all things summer AND all things fall and our favorite accessories this week didn't let us down.

Let us know which ones you plan on copying!

Camille Charrière's Alexander Wang heels

While a pair of simple black pumps could have easily worked with Charrière's outfit, the cut-outs on these shoes make them so much more interesting and fashion-forward.

Aimee Song's Tiffany & Co. bracelets and Vita Fede bracelets

There is no such thing as too many gold bracelets.

Mindy Kaling's earrings

It's pretty clear that we're obsessed with multiple earrings and Kaling's are no exception. We love how she paired her ear candy with her fancy Emmys dress -- it really amps up her look.

Jessica Stein's purse

It's going to be hard to get away with a raffia purse for much longer, so the last weekend of summer is an ideal time to pull yours out.

Leandra Medine's Truffle clutch

We love these clutches -- though they may only work for the super organized.

Elin Kling's watch

Who says watches are dead?

Helena Glaze's purse and scarf

We may be able to get on board with fall if it involves cozy plaid scarves and rich burgundy bags.

If You're Going To Instagram Food, Take Notes From People In Fashion

Who said the fashion world was specific to Instagramming macarons? Not us.

Before we delve into the madness that is New York Fashion Week, it's time to indulge in the not-so-occasional food Instagram. Yes, fashion editors and designers love a good mini cookie shot, but this week it's all about the pizza, oysters, and assorted desserts. Oh, and we can't forget about the guacamole. Whether it's a meal with a scenic background or a filtered aerial viewpoint, this is how you should photograph your breakfast, lunch and dinner... and most importantly your weekend brunch.

Feast your eyes on these picture-perfect foodstagrams. Pun intended.

Katzen Hobbes Turns Herself Into Tiger Woman

When Katzen Hobbes was a toddler, she had dreams where she saw herself covered in tiger stripes.

When she was 18, she started making that dream a reality.

Now, at the age of 40, 90 percent of her body is covered in stripes.

"I still need a little bit of work under the right armpit and right ear, but I'm pretty close to completion," Hobbes told The Huffington Post. "But I might add something more."

katzen hobbes 1

Hobbes considers her body like a sculpture.

Unlike many people who start with one small tattoo and add others on without a firm goal in mind, she always wanted just tiger stripes.

"I wanted to be covered in tiger stripes when I was young, but it wasn't until I was 9 and living in Japan that I realized how I could do it," she said. "My mother said, 'Wait until you're 18."

Most of the feline tatting occurred between the ages of 18 and 28. More than 227 different tattoo artists have inked her up, including 23 at one time.

Hobbes isn't as catty as she used to be. For 14 years, she had plastic whisker piercings through her facial skin.

"I had them removed because I started to feel they affected my field of vision," she said. She turned to scarification and had six scars on her face to allude to the whiskers.

katzen hobbes front

Hobbes works as a tattoo artist in Austin and as a sideshow performer for the 999 Eyes Freakshow. She feels both jobs allow her to show people that beauty comes from within.

"Most of us are more than skin deep," she said. "I feel more beautiful this way."

Hobbes will have a chance to demonstrate that in spades because she is one of the people who has been selected to appear in the newest Ripley's Believe It Or Not! book, "Reality Shock!" debuting Sept. 9.

"It's a bit of a dream come true because I've worked on a lot of projects that are hard to believe," she said. "I definitely read a lot of the books growing up. Robert Ripley was one of my idols."

Jennifer Lawrence's Nude Photos Leak Online, Other Celebs Targeted

A 4chan user claims to have released nude photos of several female celebrities in a major hacking.

The hacker said that he or she leaked photos of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, and a host of other stars.

A rep for J.Law confirmed that the images, allegedly stolen from her iCloud account, are real.

"This is a flagrant violation of privacy," the spokesperson told HuffPost. "The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence.”

The Los Angeles Police Department told HuffPost that they have "no knowledge" of the hacking "at this time." In a statement on Monday the FBI said,"The FBI is aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high profile individuals, and is addressing the matter. Any further comment would be inappropriate at this time." Apple did not return a request for comment.

The hacker claims to have more NSFW pics as well as videos. The user offered to release more media in exchange for money.

Victoria Justice, who was also targeted in the hack, tweeted that the photos aren't real.

"These so called nudes of me are FAKE people," she said. "Let me nip this in the bud right now. *pun intended*"

A rep for Ariana Grande told BuzzFeed that the photos of her are "completely fake."

Horror movie actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead lashed out at the hacker on Twitter.

"To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves," she said. "Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked."

UPDATE: Kate Upton's attorney told the Huffington Post in a statement, "This is obviously an outrageous violation of our client Kate Upton's privacy. We intend to pursue anyone disseminating or duplicating these illegally obtained images to the fullest extent possible."

Disney Princesses' Rebellious Side Hints At A Different Fairytale Ending

Disney princesses are certainly having a moment. Various artists have given the classic fairytale characters a makeover in recent months: They've been used to promote sexual abuse and domestic violence awareness, were presented as haute couture beauties and "The Avengers" characters, and were re-imagined as pot smoking, selfie taking badasses. The latter of which perfectly complements artist Emmanuel Viola's next series.

Viola, an Italian illustrator and digital artist, spun Belle, Jasmine, Ariel, Snow White and Cinderella into gothic, at times glam or hipster modern ladies, with tattoos, piercings and a rebellious attitude to boot:

Kim Kardashian Got Her Hair Trimmed, Apparently

Kim Kardashian may have trimmed her hair. Though she's tricked her fans in the past, posting photos of her new "blonde" self only to later reveal her hair was a wig, it would appear Kim really did ever so slightly change up her 'do this time.

The reality star, 33, posted a photo to her Instagram account August 30, writing: "New hair cut alert #shorter #JenAtkin."

For comparison's sake, here's Kim just six days prior at the MTV Video Music Awards:

It's of little wonder Kim is drawing attention to her famous tresses right now. The day before her cut, Women's Wear Daily published a piece about the Kardashian sisters' upcoming hair product line, under the headline "The Color of Money." The Kardashian "hair tools and styling products" are set to hit shelves in 2015.

"Sometimes you do a selfie just to capture the hair look. If you have fun braids in your hair, you want to show them off or if you have a cool, slicked ponytail. I love hair selfies," Kim told WWD.

8 Scientifically-Backed Ways To Feel More Confident (Even When You're Not)

$
0
0
Confidence: Highly coveted, yet often elusive. We dedicate time and energy to cultivating the feeling so we can tap into it when we need it most: at work, in business meetings, on dates, during tough conversations. Fortunately, there are a few science-backed tricks to get us there (even when we totally don't feel it).

If you're feeling less-than-stellar, these simple, actionable tips will help you fake it 'til you make it:

For starters, stand tall.
standing tall

Tall, correct posture is the hallmark outer sign of confidence -- and research shows standing up straight will help you feel it on the inside, too. A study published in the journal Psychological Science showed that a tall, expansive posture helps you act and feel more powerful than more drawn-in stances. As social psychologist and body language researcher Amy Cuddy explains in her TED Talk, your posture can also increase confidence-boosting testosterone in the body and be a potential indicator of success.

Dig out that old rap album.
listening headphones

Getting ready to request a raise or ask someone out on a date? Just press "play." Researchers from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University found that listening to bass-heavy tunes may have the power to make you feel more confident.

Recall a time you were powerful.
wedding speech

Making everyone laugh in your best man speech, nailing that job interview, publishing a well-written piece -- whatever it is, those small moments of confidence can make an impact when you're not feeling your best. According to a study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, channeling a moment when you were genuinely captivating can make you feel (and as a result, act) more confidently. Reviewing your credentials and accomplishments by looking at your resume also may do the trick, TIME reported.

Indulge in your morning ritual.
getting ready in mirror

Those first few seconds when you put yourself together in the morning aren't just crucial for starting your day -- they can bring a surge of self-confidence, too. And while the whole concept may seem more vain than valuable, there's still something to be said for that grooming ritual if you turn it into a mindfulness opportunity (find the simple way to do it here). More confidence and calming thought awareness? We'll take it.

In that same vein, choose your outfits wisely.
business woman

Chances are you've heard the old adage to "dress for success" -- and there's a reason these cliches have longevity. Studies suggest that what you're wearing can have a direct effect on how secure and powerful you feel. Researchers from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University found in an experiment that those who wore white doctor coats (in other words, a piece of clothing associated with a certain quality -- in this case, care and intelligence) performed better on the experiment's administered test than those who did not.

Channel your favorite celeb.
lupita nyongo oscars

Often we think of Hollywood stars like George Clooney, Lupita Nyong'o and Jennifer Lawrence as people who make us feel inadequate (That hair! Those eyes! That smile!), but this exercise can actually help do the opposite. A study published in the journal Personal Relationships found that when people with waning self-esteem wrote down positive qualities they see in their favorite same-sex celebrities and themselves, they felt much more compelled to become their best self. Besides, it takes a special (and awesome) kind of person to have J. Law's sense of humor or George Clooney's collected demeanor.

Stretch those muscles.
stretching

Sometimes all it takes is a good, lengthening stretch to feel like your happiest self. Stretching your muscles can lead to good posture, better blood flow and ultimately more confidence, SELF magazine reported. Not to mention certain stretches can help calm you down. Time to lift those hands up in the air. Ahhh.

Brush up on your Spanish.
adult learning

Learning a new language or sharpening other cognitive skills (re-learning algebra or taking up an art class, anyone?) can boost your life satisfaction in a similar way to a pay raise, according to a study published by the UK's Department for Business, Innovation & Skills. If you need us, we'll be over here practicing our conjugations.

As if there was ever any doubt, Angelina Jolie makes a beautiful bride.

The 39-year-old actress graces the covers of both People, and HELLO! magazine, in her wedding dress after tying the knot with Brad Pitt in an intimate ceremony in France on Aug. 23.

While only 20 friends and family members were invited to take part in the couple's big day, Pitt and Jolie's six children played the largest roles. Eldest sons Maddox (13) and Pax (11) walked their mother down the aisle, while Zahara (9) and Vivienne (6) threw flower petals, and Shiloh (8) and Knox (6) served as ring bearers.

Meanwhile the children also literally put their mark on their mother's gown. Never one to conform to expectations, Jolie donned an ivory satin Atelier Versace gown adorned with dozens of her children's designs and drawing sewn into the back of the gown and veil, according to People magazine.

Jolie's decision to make her kids such a large part of her wedding is hardly surprising since she previously told People that her children would definitely be heavily involved in the planning process.

"We are discussing it with the children and how they imagine it might be, which is verging on hysterical, how kids envision a wedding," she told the magazine back in May. "They will, in a way, be the wedding planners. It's going to be Disney or paintball – one or the other!"

Kate Moss And Cara Delevingne Steam Up New My Burberry Fragrance Ad

We waited six long months to see the official campaign for My Burberry starring Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne, and let us tell you -- it was well worth the wait. The British supermodels look really chummy in their first shoot together wearing a single Burberry trench coat, tousled blonde hair and the brand's signature "nude" makeup.

The steamy ad truly encapsulates the fragrance, as Burberry chief creative and executive officer Christopher Bailey teamed up with acclaimed perfumer Francis Kurkdjian to bottle up the smell of a classic trench.

kate moss cara delevingne my burberry

It's strong, sensual and long-lasting scent comes from a honey-hued juice made up of sweet pea, bergamot oil, freesia, rose, golden quince and patchouli.

Bailey also imparted his designer skills to the actual make of the bottle with details that include a large horn-finish cap reminiscent of Burberry's buttons, the hand-tied knot made of English-woven gabardine fabric invented by Thomas Burberry over a century ago and the curve of the glass, which echoes the trench coat's gun flap.

After wearing a sample of My Burberry for a few days, we think the British luxury fashion house is really on to something with a fragrance that both women and men can appreciate. Besides, it's the closest we'll ever get to dropping $2,000 on a silky Burberry trench coat.
