5 Key Things To Know About Robert Pattinson's Rumored New Girlfriend, FKA Twigs

$

Robert Pattinson has been spending quite a lot of time with British singer FKA Twigs. But just how much do you know about the budding music star? As rumors of a relationship between the singer and our favorite "Twilight" actor swirl, we dug up some information to help you get more familiar with what could be one half of the next "it" couple.

1. She grew up as Tahliah Debrett Barnett

fka twigs

FKA Twigs grew up as Tahliah Barnett in rural Gloucestershire, England, where she attended a Catholic high school. Because of the way her joints crack, she developed the nickname Twigs, which she went by at the start of her musical career in 2012. After American artists The Twigs complained about the conflict, she added the FKA to her name to signify "Formerly Known As."

She recently took to Twitter to make clear that though FKA Twigs is a stage name, it does not come along with a fictional persona:

2. She is a woman of many talents

fka twigs

Yes, FKA Twigs is a recording artist, but she is also a mega-talented dancer. She has served as a background dancer for household names like Kylie Minogue and Ed Sheeran, and was even featured in videos for Jessie J singles "Do It Like a Dude" and "Price Tag."

She is still hard at work at the craft, often posting videos of choreography sessions to her Instagram.

3. Her music is getting some major buzz

fka twigs

Twigs' debut album, LP1, was released this past August, and critics are very impressed: "FKA Twigs emerges the high priestess of R&B's latest corruption, and the world will kneel at the altar," wrote Christopher Hooton at the Independent. Kyle Fowle at the AV Club noted: "Few debuts possess such control and ambition all in one; LP1 is the rare album that manages to sound both lived in and completely futuristic." It sure seems like the singer is about to be the next big thing.

4. She fancies herself a free spirit

fka twigs

After posting a funny text exchange with an apparent housemate to Instagram, the singer admitted that in terms of "Friends" characters, she's much more Phoebe than Monica.

"you can be monica cause obvs i'm phoebe. #reallife" she captioned the photo.

5. She does not want to be part of the Beauty Myth

saint barbie

FKA Twigs wants you to know that she gets photoshopped, too. The singer posted the above snap of Mark Ryden piece "Saint Barbie" to her Instagram with a note about her philosophy:

"I get airbrushed too, keep shit in perspective," she wrote. "I just like making music and visuals, everything else is either a flattering filter or a man made illusion. I don't want to be a part of the beauty myth, it's not helpful to any of us. Go to school, learn an instrument and give up selfies or at least keep the ratio equal to creativity and intelligence lol."

How To Decorate A Room Without Putting Everything In Front Of The TV

We're creatures of habit, and there are few times this has proven truer than when trying to incorporate a TV into our decor. It almost always takes center stage. But just because the majority of people choose to make the boob tube the focal point of a room -- 52 percent of homeowners admitted to Houzz that they have televisions in their bedroom-- doesn't mean you have to go with the crowd.

Next time you go to set up a room (or spontaneously feel the urge to move around some furniture), try taking a TV-free approach instead. Not sure how to do that? These focal point alternatives are here to help. And, as an added bonus, they're pretty much guaranteed to be loads better than some terrible reality show blasting in the background.

The Fashion World Mourns Joan Rivers, An Icon Who Changed An Industry

To say that Joan Rivers was a major fashion icon would be a complete understatement -- she was so much more.

The "Queen of Comedy" was a New York Fashion Week staple and made award season worth watching. Known for her hilarious and often crass commentary on E!'s Fashion Police, Rivers never let a ridiculously-sized peplum or absurd asymmetrical hemline get off easy. And for that, we are very grateful and will miss her tremendously. It's safe to say that award shows and fashion weeks will never be the same.

Following the news of her death on Thursday afternoon, several fashion outlets took to Twitter to remember Rivers. Scroll down to see how the industry mourned the death of a dear friend.

The Biggest Fashion Week Trend Is Already In Your Closet

New York Fashion Week is one of the most exciting times of year -- but also one of the most intimidating. Tons of outrageous outfits come down the runway, so many thousand-dollar dresses are worn and countless unwearable trends blow up our Instagram feeds. So, when an accessible, affordable trend makes an appearance, it's cause for celebration.

Though NYFW only started on Thursday, we've already noticed a major trend: white button-up shirts. Not only do crisp white button-ups work on just about anyone, they are also something you most likely already have in your closet. And if you don't, you can buy one for next to nothing at The Gap, Zara or Target.

Check out how all the big designers are showing them on the runway, and if you need inspiration on how to style it, we've got you covered there too.

Military Women Replaced Models At New York Fashion Week

Models and celebrities typically dominate attention at any fashion show (that is, attention that isn't focused on the collections themselves). But, there was a newbie in the Lincoln Center spotlight earlier this week. And, she's much more badass than even the most recognizable show-closer.

Jennifer Lopez Hits The Streets In A Crop Top

She’s still Jenny from the block.

The ever-glamorous J.Lo ditched her usual sequin leotard for a much more casual look when she stepped out in New York on Sept. 5. The “Booty” singer beat the heat in a white crop top with a blue sweatshirt tied over her blue camouflage pants. Lopez completed the outfit with a pair of aviator shades and high-top sneakers:

The comfy attire is definitely a stark contrast from her usual red carpet glamour, but it only proves that J.Lo looks gorgeous in anything.

Blake Lively Made A Beehive Cake For Beyonce's Birthday

Jay Z may have made Beyonce an adorable music video for her 33rd birthday on Sept. 4, but Blake Lively’s gift might just take the cake.

Blake Lively whipped up an elaborate beehive cake in honor of her friend's birthday. The 27-year-old actress posted a video of her thoughtful creation on the Instagram account for Preserve, her lifestyle blog, writing, "In honor of the Queen of all Bs...I had to make this Meyer Lemon Honey cake. Happy Birthday Beyoncé!!! Xxo Blake":

Lively and Beyonce first teamed up for Beyonce and Jay Z’s star-studded “On The Run” tour promo back in May.

The two women later joined forces in June at Gucci's fundraiser event, Chime For Change. Beyonce is a co-founder of the organization which benefits women and girls around the globe in the areas of health, education and justice. Lively, the face of Gucci's Premiere fragrance, joined the campaign to help spread awareness.

My Love-Hate With Online Dating

$

I contacted my friend Carla, owner of Huckleberry Market on California's central coast. I needed a quote on roses. I inquired, "How much does 10 dozen roses cost? I don't need a vase, only stems. And can this easily be carried?" She replied, "You will look like you're carrying a rose garden and it would be $648 with tax."

That's the cost of The Girlfriend Experience; 120 roses.

Online dating and I have a love-hate relationship. Most online profiles of women I run across, with exception to the aforementioned, consist of the following:

  • Mentioning they are not looking for hookups

  • A famous quote about life, or what they've learnt in life so far

  • Selfies while they lay in bed, with or without the duck face

  • Their love to travel and dance

  • A car selfie with sunglasses on

I'm no expert with online dating, and I'm not in a rush to get into a relationship, but let me share with you what has worked for me. It's helped me get rid of the junk. And speaking of junk, men, quit it. You're the only one that thinks it looks fabulous.

  • Even though I'm encouraged to fill in the About, I don't fill it with stuff about me; I write about her. It's much easier to write about, and clearly depicts what I'm looking for, a best friendship. Women have Prince Charming; I have Princess Goofball. When I think about her, I think of this messy, unorganized and slightly clumsy woman that has natural beauty, with or without tattoos. I think of shoes and empty water bottles battling each other on the floorboard of her car while she belts out Girls Just Want to Have Fun; the major factor for her horrible driving skills. I think of someone fun, happy, and the only thing she takes seriously is not being so serious. She has to be in love with herself. Most of all, I want someone just as goofy as me, making me laugh whether she intended to or not. That's the type of girl I see myself falling in love with. This perfectly imperfect person never working for perfection and living comfortably in her own skin; skin I'd like to touch one day but not today.

  • End the "cray," the "bae," and the "rachet." An LOL doesn't belong at the end of every sentence. Are you 15? Oh, you are. Another reason why guys sending images of their junk is a bad idea. I'm looking for someone I can talk to. Even if she's the beautiful bae with a little cray, her ability to communicate is rachet. (And I really hate that my spell check has underlined all these words in red and I'm going to submit it this way)

  • I say no to duck face. You think it's cute, I think it's not. It looks closer to a fish-face, and it'd look better if you bit the inside of your cheeks, and much funnier. It's the look that Grandma chases me with trying to smother me with her kisses. Grandma will win, you will not. It'd be funny "if you keep making that face it's going to get stuck that way" was true. These photos are speaking thousands of words for you. I had a friend choose my photos for me.

  • BE FUNNY! BE FUN. BE YOUR BEST YOU. EVERYONE LIKES HAPPY.

  • Don't feel like you need to keep waiting to see how this goes. End it if you're not feeling it. I got up to 77 matches before I realized it was unnecessary. I'm down to two, happily accepting and disconnecting as I go. It's a tough thing to do as a guy, saying no to a beautiful woman that could be my wife but it's necessary.

I'm not looking for my wife anyway. Like I said, I'm looking for my best friend; one who hates roses.

Rihanna Is All Legs In A Babydoll Dress At New York Fashion Week

Watch out, models! Rihanna could be coming for your spot on the runway.

The pop princess made a leggy appearance at New York Fashion Week on Friday when she attended the Adam Selman Spring 2015 presentation. Wearing a white babydoll dress, long pearl necklace and Christian Louboutin Impera Lasercut Pumps, Riri rocked her all-white outfit while sitting pretty on the front row.

Selman, the designer behind many of Rihanna's tour costumes and red carpet looks, even got her to show off her silly side as they posed for pictures.

With the unseasonably hot weather we've been having here in New York City, we believe the singer made the right choice with this breezy, babydoll dress.

What do you think?

Kelly Rowland on Watches, Lashes and Her Pregnancy Style

$

Former Destiny's Child member and current expectant mother Kelly Rowland unveiled her new Kelly Rowland Canteen Bracelet Special Edition watch by TW Steel on September 4.

The black steel watch, valued at $650, follows a previous collection by Rowland which included rose gold plated steel faces with sapphire crystals, one with a pink leather straps and another with blue. Both retailed at $995.

Rowland, who with husband Tim Witherspoon, are expecting a baby boy this fall, sat down with Zorianna Kit to talk about the watches, her pregnancy and gave an update on what's going on with her music, film and fashion careers.

Zorianna Kit: People wear watches for functional purposes, others for style purposes? What's yours?

Kelly Rowland: For me I love the style. The pink watch, for example, is a nice pop of color and a statement piece. But they serve as both. There are people who are obsessed with their watches. My husband is one of those people. Some men are watch connoisseurs.

Kit: Were you familiar with TW Steel before you became a spokesperson?

Rowland: I love big-faced watches so one day I took my best friend's TW Steel watch and wore it. The next thing I knew we were being introduced to the TW Steel family.

The Kelly Rowland Canteen Bracelet Special Edition watch by TW Steel

Kit: Are you already getting other ideas for future designs?

Rowland: Yes, I want to make him (points to pregnant belly) a baby version of TW Steel. I'm actually bothering them about that now!

Kit: He's not even born yet, but already he's influencing you! What other ways are you being inspired by him?

Rowland: In shopping for my baby boy, I'm noticing the girl section has way more stuff than boys. So down the road, I'll be definitely designing some really cool stuff for little guys.

Kit: Anything for yourself?

Rowland: I love lashes, so I'm in the process of starting a make-up line, beginning with lashes. When you look at someone, you go straight to their eyes - the window to the soul. Lashes are another moment in beauty that needs to be expressed. My make-up artist and I are putting that forth.

Kit: How has your personal style changed over the years?

Rowland: When you're young you tend to throw something on to be cool or to fit in with a trend, when you should just really wear it for you. Style is something you feel. It's about not allowing something to wear you - you have to wear it. That knowledge comes with age. But I've always been daring when it comes to style. I'm not afraid to try something new.

Kit: This is your first pregnancy. What's your pregnancy style?

Rowland: I like things to be fitted so I haven't strayed away from that. I like my fitted dresses with cute boots or heels. I still like to feel sexy. When I'm at home I like to be comfortable so I'll wear a huge muumuu. But as far as dressing up, I want to feel like a woman. There's no better time to feel like a woman than now!

Kit: What's happening on the music front for you these days?

Rowland: It's still in development. I've been in the studio going through all these different songs and styles, and been inspired by different things. I go to art openings and concerts. If I buy on iTunes, I love the fact that there is a little blue diagram to say, if you like this you'll love this. It's about turning myself on to something new.

Kit: You've worked on numerous reality shows including The X-Factor U.K. and U.S. What was your motivation for getting involved?

Rowland:
It was about mentorship and getting back to the beginning. Sometimes you have this moment to where you're like, what was my beginning like? Then you think about all that knowledge that you've accumulated over the years. So it's about sharing a personal story with a contestant, or being inspired in that moment by them or being a support system. These people have dreams. If you can be a part in nurturing that and hopefully making it come to life, that's a gift.

Kit: Did you find the talent pool different in different parts of the world?

Rowland:
Other than having an accent, they were all hungry. They all had a dream. They all wanted to be stars. They all had to figure out I they wanted to be famous or if they wanted to leave an impression with their talent.

Kelly Rowland on the red carpet for her TW Steel watch launch

Kit: Having seen close women friends in your circle having kids and being changed by motherhood, are you excited to see what it will be like for you?

Rowland:
I'm really, really excited to see that. I've watched the way they've all changed as a family, as women and how with the baby there is this shift mentally that happens. I can't wait for that.

Kit: Are there projects you are setting up to do further down the line once you have the baby and settle in to a new routine of motherhood?

Rowland: There's an acting role that I'm eying right now. I can't say what it is because I'd rather not jinx it. But I really want this one specific role. It has my name all over it. I just have to pop this baby right out and get prepared for it in order for it to come to life. (laughs)

With her blonde locks pulled back into a sleek ponytail and lips painted in a bright shade of pink, Decker embodied simple yet sophisticated glamour.

If you can direct your attention away from Kardashian's cleavage, you will notice that she is wearing seriously sexy, beachy waves. Her side-swept bangs draw attention to her smokey eye and flawless nude lip.

No tomboy here! The 22-year-old model channels her inner screen siren with retro curls, hazy brown eyeshadow and burgundy lipstick.

WORST: Amber Fillerup

Rope braids are hot right now, but Fillerup's take on the trend skews too young. And those strip lashes distract from her luminous skin and peachy-coral lip color.

WORST: Uma Thurman

We barely recognized Thurman at the premiere for "Nymphomaniac" in Venice, Italy with this messy braided updo and blue-and-purple eye makeup combo.

WORST: Rita Ora

This braided pompadour hairstyle reminds us of something Pink wore years ago. We're still scratching our heads as to why Ora thought it was fitting to pair with such an extravagant gown.

WORST: Tallia Storm

Why You Should Use Conditioner Before Getting In The Shower

Simon Doonan Explains Why All Models Look The Same At New York Fashion Week

$
0
0
Simon Doonan knows what to expect on most runways during New York Fashion Week Spring 2015: "very tall, Eastern European girls, long necks, they're probably about 16."

The creative ambassador for Barney's lamented the all-too-familiar look of today's top models during a conversation about the history of Fashion Week with HuffPost Live's Caitlyn Becker on Friday.

"Diversity has fluctuated over the years. The '70s was actually a time when a significant number of girls on the runway were women of color, and that was a big trend, if you will, during the '70s and early '80s," Doonan said. "I think that is coming back, but it's coming back because of people like Bethann Hardison [and] Iman, who have been saying, 'Hey, what's happened to diversity on the runway?'"

Part of the reason for the cookie-cutter look that's currently in vogue at Fashion Week is an "emphasis on efficiency" that wasn't present until recently, Doonan added.

"I was looking at a Gaultier show from the early '90s, and it was 40 minutes long, just because girls kept dropping things, waving at people they knew, and it was a very kind of louche, eccentric affair, whereas now it's highly regimented," he said of the relaxed tone of earlier shows.

Another factor in the lack of individuality on the runway is the way makeup has changed, according to style icon and author Alice Carey.

"What I find today is there's an exaggeration of a slickness. You don't see the woman. That's what bothers me," Carey said. "I think it's fun. But you did see Iman, and you did see Beverly Johnson, and God knows back then you saw Suzy Parker. Today they kind of strut out, and they're just ... clotheshorses. I don't see an individual. I don't see a soul."

These Companies Are Giving The Fashion Industry A Body-Positive Makeover

New York Fashion Week is officially in full swing, but some of the biggest industry innovations are happening off the runway.

Socially-conscious dress company Project Gravitas and JAG Models, an agency devoted to embracing women of all sizes, are teaming up to promote body-positive change within the fashion industry.

In an interview with HuffPost Live, Project Gravitas founder and CEO Lisa Sun explained that her fashion company is all about fostering confidence among women. Since most of our perceptions are shaped by the media we consume, she said, it’s crucial to show more than one type of body image in fashion.

“So, we’ve got to show more than just size zeros and twos,” Sun said. “Size zeros and twos are beautiful, [but] we’ve gotta show size zero through 18 … because that gives girls the chance to say, ‘I am me and I’m in a magazine too.’”

According to JAG Models co-founder Gary Dakin, this consumer-oriented way of thinking is starting to make waves in the industry.

“Normally the casting directors won’t see anything over a two, but the campaigns are opening up a little bit more, before the runway is,” he told host Caroline Modarressay-Tehrani. “And that we’re definitely seeing growth with massive national retailers. They’re looking to do the best girl for the best job ... and see them as beautiful women and not numbers.”

Kate Middleton Suffering From Morning Sickness Condition, Hyperemesis Gravidarum

The good news: Kate Middleton is pregnant again! Prince George is going to be a big brother! Cute sibling photos! The not-so-good news: The Palace has announced that the Duchess is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, again, and is being treated at Kensington Palace.

Hyperemesis gravidarum is the "extreme, persistent nausea and vomiting during pregnancy that may lead to dehydration," according to The National Center for Biotechnology Information.

When Kate was hospitalized because of the condition during her first pregnancy, rumors circulated that she might be carrying royal twins, because this type of extreme nausea can occur if that's the case.

At the time, we reported:

About 70-80 percent of pregnant women experience some type of morning sickness, but only 1-2 percent suffer from hyperemesis gravidarum, according to BabyCenter's hyperemesis support group page. The main difference, AmericanPregnancy.org says, is that nausea caused by morning sickness usually subsides after 12 weeks, but for women with hyperemesis gravidarum, the nausea continues after that point. Also, vomiting caused by this condition causes severe dehydration. Common morning sickness does not.

Common treatments for hyperemesis gravidarum include IVs, tube feeding, and medications such as metoclopramide, antihistamines, and antireflux medications. For less severe cases, AmericanPregnancy.org recommends bed rest, acupressure, herbs and hypnosis.

Here's what else we know about baby no. 2, so far:

How to Bring the Sex Back to Your Sex Life

$
0
0
"I just do it to get him off."
"It feels like a chore."
"I have no drive."
"She's too busy."

These are just some of the many things people tell me about their current sex life... or lack thereof. They have been in relationships or married for a few years and lack the drive and desire for sex that they once knew. Kids, work stress, deadlines, laundry, and chores are just a few of the things that they deem more important than sex with their partners. For many of these people, their marriages work out fine, but they feel unfulfilled in the bedroom and are afraid to say anything. For others, they say something but don't know what to do about it. A sexless relationship will at best feel unfulfilling to most people.

Here's what to do about it:

  • Talk. Many couples remain silent about their dissatisfaction in the bedroom. They're afraid to address it because they fear they might hurt the other person or it might lead to a break up or divorce. Change the way you think about the issue and see talking as the first step towards improvement rather than as nagging or complaining.

  • Be positive. When addressing issue with your partner keep it positive. For example, you might say, "I was thinking about how good it feels when you pamper me with hot oil" rather than saying "you never massage me anymore." Stating things in a positive way will bring your partner (at least mentally) to that time or activity that was so hot and exciting for you and it will provide positive reinforcement to him or her and increase the likelihood of the behavior or activity happening again.

  • Reevaluate your lifestyle. So often sex gets pushed way down on peoples' list of priorities. For many people running errands, cleaning toilets, emptying garbage, and buying groceries are actually given more importance than having sex with their partner. Take a good hard look at how your prioritize sex. If it is low on the list then move it up a few notches and make time for it. Plan it if you need to but by all means, do it.

  • Wear many hats. For many people they have a hard time being both parents and lovers. They have troubling seeing their significant other as the father or mother of their child and as a sexual person. Know that your lover wears many hats. She might be mother to your child, executive in the boardroom, and a wild passionate lover in the bedroom. Accept this notion and be comfortable seeing him or her as the person who once drove you wild and can potentially do it again.

  • Make small changes. Think about things that you can do to feel better about yourself. The better you feel about yourself, the more likely you'll want to share it with others, and the sexier he or she will see you. Have you perhaps let your appearances slide over the years? Have you let yourself get out of shape over the past few years? Hitting the gym will restore a sense of confidence in yourself that can be quite appealing to your significant other. Further, exercise will make you feel stronger and tighter and boost endorphins that could kick start an otherwise stagnant sex drive. Caring more about how you dress, look, and smell can also have a big impact on how your partner reacts to you in the bedroom. Spend some time on making some changes in this department.

  • Mix it up and be adventurous. Over time couples often feel their sex life is boring, unimaginative, and simply predictable. Try mixing it up with positions you've maybe always wanted to try but were too shy. Explore locations outside the bedroom. Perhaps the kitchen, living room, or outdoor deck are options.

  • Be partners. Remember, if you're feeling disconnected or unfulfilled, then chances are your partner is too. Keep this in mind: You and your significant other are a team. Collaborate with him or her and find a way to trouble shoot together and bring the sex back to your sex life.
