Glowy Zoey's LED Minnie Mouse Costume Will Light Up Halloween

$

Last year, photographer Royce Hutain, who goes by Visual Burrito on YouTube, created an amazing -- and adorable -- LED suit for his toddler to wear on Halloween. The video of her wearing it went viral.

Now, dad is back with an even cooler costume -- it's his little girl, who he calls Glowy Zoey, as light-up Minnie Mouse.

"Zoey was a huge hit when we went to Disneyland," Dad wrote on YouTube. In the description for the video, he explains how he made her costume, also mentioning that after last year's success, he "found [himself] in the LED stick figure costume business." He now sells costumes on his website.

Hutain's creation is seriously impressive, but don't worry parents, you don't have to be an electrical mastermind for your kid to look cute on Halloween. Here's proof:

Emirates Airlines Flight Attendants Reveal Just How Much Goes Into Their In-Flight Look

$

While the airline industry has evolved past the harsh beauty standards once placed on female flight attendants, the profession still requires employees to dress the part. Though there is no doubt that aircraft safety is the primary (and extremely demanding) job responsibility of a flight attendant, there is also a deeply rooted, historical style element amongst cabin crews, especially when it comes to their uniforms.

For Emirates Airlines, which boasts some of the most sophisticated and luxurious planes in the world, that traditional style element is still highly valued.

We sat down with flight attendants Maria Pedersen and Laura Kellam, two members of the elite, diverse crew (which is made up of people from 160 different countries!) to learn more about the uniform guidelines involved when working 36,000 feet above the ground.

HuffPost Style: Your crew always looks so well put together. How much of your training program is about image? What are some of the rules?

Maria Pedersen: Our training program is two weeks, which of course is mostly spent learning safety procedures and protocol. But we do have one full day of training on grooming that focuses on image and uniform. It's pretty important to the airline. The red lipstick is pretty signature, in whichever shade suits your skin tone (it also must match the hat). They had a bunch of different Clarins shades for us to try on when we first got our uniforms.

Laura Kellam: There is a list of things we have to wear (like foundation), but we actually get a little manual with all the rules in it. Nails have to be clear, french or the same red as the lipstick and hat. If your hair touches your collar you have to put it up, but there is some flexibility based on texture. We can do a French roll or twist, and we just got braids approved... so bohemian [laughs].

HPS: And what about uniform? Any guidelines there?

LK: Yes, there are a bunch. For example, we're not allowed to wear pieces of the uniform if we're off duty... that would be pretty taboo. You must wear the hat during specific parts of the trip: anytime you're in public, when you're going through the airport and during boarding and landing. They also tell us exactly how to fold the scarf so it is tucked in a certain way.

MP: There are even rules for the hat: it has to be worn two finger widths above your eyebrows. Everything is very specific.

emirates

HPS: Wow! That's a lot to keep track of. Do you think having these guidelines sets you apart from other airlines?

MP: Absolutely. I'm pretty proud of the way we look. People are really impressed by it. I think it makes us stand out, look professional and well put together.

LK: It's a very unique uniform. People look at it and automatically know where we're from, which makes me proud.

HPS: So, aside from the rigorous beauty routine, what are some of the more challenging aspects of the job?

LK: The schedule can definitely be a bit challenging sometimes. Sleeping in the afternoon or waking up for a flight at 3:00 AM when it's the middle of the night in Australia, for example, can be tough.

MP: We're not supposed to use sleeping pills or anything to help us sleep, so you kind of just have to figure out what works for you when it comes to getting a good night's rest. You come up with strategies like drinking herbal tea: I have big packets of chamomile in my cabin bag to knock myself out.

HPS: What else do you do to stay refreshed on say, a 13-hour flight?

MP: Hydrating is KEY. I buy a liter of water and force myself to drink it. I use wet towels a lot and a spray that hydrates. Before a flight I put pure argan oil all over my face which is nice because it's not super greasy but also doesn't dry out my skin. I do that before I put on foundation.

buns

HPS: What do you think is the coolest feature on board?

MP: Definitely the shower spas [which are available in first class on the A830 airbus]. They are spacious and stocked with Bvlgari products. Passengers are asked as soon as they get on board when they would like to take a shower. They space it out so that everyone has a good amount of time in there. They also get pajamas to change into after they are done. It's a really luxurious experience.

HPS: OK, be honest. How long does it take you to get ready before a flight?

LK: I usually give myself about an hour and fifteen minutes. I could do it in less time, but I don't like to be rushed. I like to feel fresh and totally ready for work.

Bride's Harry Potter Tribute Will Appeal To Book Lovers Everywhere

Floral wedding bouquets are beautiful, but they have a very short shelf life. Paper bouquets made from the pages of your favorite books? Those will last a lifetime.

Bride Victoria Garcia decided to incorporate her love -- nay, obsession -- with Harry Potter into her bridal bouquet when she tied the knot in July 2014.

Garcia told The Huffington Post that she first saw the idea on Etsy with bouquets made from classic novels like Pride and Prejudice and wanted to figure out a way to do the same thing with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone -- the book that made her fall in love with reading.

"While a wedding is all about the couple and two people coming together, I wanted to carry something that stood for me and me alone," she wrote in an email. "My husband Rey knows and accepts my love of Harry Potter! He thought that my idea awesome."

The flowers were made at a stationery shop. Garcia added the pearls, roses and ribbon herself and put it all together oh-so beautifully.

"When I had first told my mom what I wanted to do she tried to talk me out of it," Garcia told HuffPost Weddings. "It wasn't traditional and people would think it's 'cheap.' I didn't care, I had my heart set on it. So I went ahead with it. Sure enough, there were a lot of comments like, 'Why didn't Tori get a real bouquet?' 'If you needed money we could have helped!' etc. I was too caught up in the day to notice or care."

HauteButch To Design Clothing For Butch, Androgynous Straight Women And Trans Men

An incredible new fashion line is in the works with a focus on individuals who identify as butch, androgynous straight women and trans men.

Called HauteButch, the line of both clothing and footwear is the reportedly first US-based LGBT clothier to take on such a task, and aims to provide more masculine and gender-neutral clothing for individuals whose frames differ from the bodies these clothes are traditionally made for in the mainstream.

With a desire to become a lifestyle brand for their community, HauteButch is currently engaged in a Kickstarter campaign in order to fund its 2015 collections. The Huffington Post chatted with Karen Roberts, designer and founder of HauteButch, this week about her vision for the line.

The Huffington Post: Why did you decide this line of clothing line is so important?
Karen Roberts: I decided it was important first based on my own lack of fashionable alternatives as a professional butch woman, followed by the expressed, shared frustration of my peers. Our fit and style preferences were not met in the mainstream retail arena and we weren't necessarily welcome in the men’s department. I can remember the looks on some faces… the sales people had no idea what to do with me, but one thing was clear -- if I just went away, it would make it easier for them than to have to “help” me. It’s not just about fashion; this line of clothing represents choice and freedom for an under-served community.

Is this clothing intended for exclusively for queer women and trans men or are you trying to reach a wider audience?
Our clothing is designed to cover a spectrum of style-seekers that include butch or queer women, straight women that prefer an androgynous aesthetic and trans men. Many of our customers are straight women and even some straight men. We don’t wish to exclude anyone from wearing our line. If it fits your style and personality, we embrace you.

What kinds of clothing will you produce?
Currently we are producing a handsome new collection of button up shirts and our Gotham jacket, designed and crafted with the utmost care and sophistication.

We have obsessed over fit, fabrics and finishes to be able to proudly offer a fashion brand to the community that we love and honor. In the near future, we’ll be offering two gorgeously masculine tuxedo shirts which we are very excited about bringing to market, accompanied by military-inspired vests and eventually a line of trousers.

Do you see movements like this to have clothing for queer bodies as evident of larger social changes?
I’m of the opinion that overall, we have become much more visible in the eyes of society. We have demanded to have our political views heard, the right to define our own bodies, to publicly have our marriages acknowledged, to see our children uplifted in blended communities and as a result… our community is evolving and simultaneously blending on many, many levels; the fashion industry being one of those.

Robyn Lawley Is Pregnant!

Congratulations are in order for Robyn Lawley and Everest Schmidt on the announcement of her first pregnancy!

One of our favorite models in the business announced to Australian Women's Weekly that she is about six months along with the pair's first child.

Lawley has become known not only for her modeling chops but also her advocacy for healthy body image and distaste for labels (like "plus-size"). She admits to the mag that "with modeling, it's never a good time to fall pregnant," but that her and Schmidt were planning on starting a family eventually anyway.

We're not sure we agree with you there, Robyn. We'd love to see you rock your bump for a photo shoot. Perhaps even for Sports Illustrated? Guess we will all just have to wait and find out.

Sarah Hyland Is 'So Proud' Of Taylor Swift 'For Taking A Huge Risk' With New Album

Sarah Hyland has something we all want: a friendship with Taylor Swift (and, presumably, access to Swift's new album). But, despite being close pals with the country crooner-turned-pop singer, the "Modern Family" star hasn't had a "'1989' secret session," nor does she want to.

"I don't want to listen to it," Hyland told HuffPost Entertainment while promoting her partnership with Swiffer, which is helping the ASPCA find homes for animals in need. "I want to be surprised like everybody else."

But judging from Swift's first three singles -- "Shake It Off," "Out of the Woods" and "Welcome to New York" -- Hyland guarantees "1989" will be a hit for her friend.

"I love it. I love the new sound -- the pop '80s homage is just amazing," the 23-year-old said. "I'm so proud of her for doing this and taking a huge risk because people don't like change. But as an artist myself, I like change. I like doing different projects in between 'Modern Family' because you have to challenge yourself and mix things up a bit, so why should someone as talented as Taylor be confined to country for the rest of her life? Especially when she can do amazing music like this."

Hyland is a musician herself, currently starring as Sidney in the musical parody of the horror franchise, "Scream." But despite her vocal talents, Hyland does not plan on becoming a recording artist.

"I've written songs, yeah. Every teenage girl writes songs when they have their first breakup. It's inevitable. Is it good? No," Hyland joked. "I'm not the tour kind of girl, I don't like that, but I'm not ruling out doing a feature on someone's album. I don't think I could ever come out with a solo album, but featuring on someone else's, like Leighton [Meester] did with Cobra Starship, things like that maybe, I'm not ruling it out," she added. "But it's not something that is high on my bucket list."

What is high on her list is to stay grounded and surround herself with supportive people.

"Sometimes my friends and I go somewhere and they're like, 'Holy shit, we forgot how, like, famous you are.' And I hate the F-word and I hate the C-word -- famous and celebrity. Cannot stand them. And that's why I have such amazing friends, because they do have to remind themselves [that I'm in the public eye]," Hyland told us. "It's amazing to have friends in the industry who understand what you're going through because they go through the same thing as well, but I think it's amazing to still have friends who aren't in it. I don't think you should limit yourself to people just because they haven't been through what you have."

Chrissy Teigen Just Made A Good Point About The Sad State Of Gun Violence In America

$

As a shooting unfolded near Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada, on Wednesday, supermodel Chrissy Teigen took to Twitter to make a good point about gun violence in the United States.

Teigen, who is known for her unapologetic, unfiltered tweets, noted active shooting situations seem to be more common in America than Canada:

When people didn't seem to grasp Teigen's commentary, she apologized that some people "don't understand," but didn't shy away from the comments:

Teigen again tried to clarify her comments after Twitter users accused her of criticizing Canada:

Teigen has a point. A chart published by The Washington Post in 2012 shows that the U.S. "has the highest gun ownership rate in the world and the highest per capita rate of firearm-related murders of all developed countries."

NPR reported on a study looking at guns, violence and mental health in Sept. 2013:

The United States had the highest rate of civilian gun ownership, at almost 90 guns per 100 people. The next two countries on the list were Switzerland and Finland, with about 45 guns per 100 people. Japan, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom had the lowest gun numbers, ranging from less than one gun per 100 in Japan to six in the U.K.

The countries with more civilian guns also had the highest rates of firearms deaths, with the United States leading the list at 10 deaths per 100,000, based on an international mortality database.

Gun ownership was strongly associated with firearms deaths. The only outlier was South Africa, which had 13 guns per 100 people, but a firearms death rate almost as high as in the U.S.

And yet, U.S. lawmakers remain unwilling to take action on gun control. After the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 children and six educators were killed, the debate over gun control was reignited. But in the years since the shooting, Congress has passed zero gun control laws.

President Barack Obama made a point similar to Teigen's after a school shooting in June 2014, slamming members of Congress for not taking action on gun control.

"We're the only developed country on earth where this happens," Obama said. "And it happens now once a week. And it's a one-day story. There's no place else like this."

But Teigen and Obama aren't the only ones who recognize gun violence in the U.S. is a problem. In the 2014 National Poll on Children's Health, school violence and gun-related injuries were two of the top ten biggest health concerns adults had for their children.

Other celebrities have jumped into the conversation, too. In June, "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart ripped the American public's apathy toward mass shootings.

"It's like America has a dog that's always shitting inside the house, and we solved the problem by getting a brown rug," Stewart said.

Kylie Jenner Isn't Dating Tyga, According To Kris Jenner

Rumors that Kylie Jenner has an older boyfriend are just that -- rumors -- at least according to her mom.

Buzz surrounding the 17-year-old reality star and rapper Tyga, 24, began earlier this month when the two were spotted having a "low key dinner." And a European getaway for the pair further fueled speculation.

The age difference between the two has raised some eyebrows, but Kris Jenner claims, there's nothing to worry about.

"Kylie isn’t dating anybody," Kris told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on Tuesday. "This whole little group of kids who have been around forever, and I call them kids because, relatively speaking, they kind of all travel as a pack and they enjoy each other’s company."

She added, "We all live in the same neighborhood. [Tyga] used to live across the street for a long time, and now he lives next door to Khloe."

It's true that they are all friends. In fact, if the two are dating, it might prove quite awkward since Tyga's former fiancee, and mother of his two-year-old son, Blac Chyna, is good friends with Kylie's sister, Kim Kardashian.

And while Kris says there is nothing going on between the two, the rapper didn't deny the relationship outright when an Instagram user called him a "pedophile" and wrote that he "should be locked up" for dating Kylie.

"Why u sound so hateful. U don’t know sh-t bout my life but the fake sh-t u read online," he wrote on Instagram.

If You Want to, You Should Totally Chop Off All Your Hair

$
0
0
Like many, I've got a Pinterest board dedicated to hair and hairstyles. Although I don't personally have enough to braid, I pin braids and updos. I pin textures and colors I'll never have.  And I totally get that Pinterest is a place for bookmarking things we actually want to try, and also things that we may never try but like to fantasize about. Really. I get that.

But I'm going to be a little nervy and blunt, here. Because I'd say that around 70% of the hair-related pins I see in my feed are short, spiky, pixie-style cuts with comments like "Someday I'll work up the nerve" and "Love this look, but just can't pull it off." Short hair, wishful thinking. So here it comes:

If you want to, you should totally chop off all your hair. You should. And even though you may already know them, I'll give you a whole bunch of reasons why.

It grows back

In most cases, the hair you cut off will grow back eventually. This is one of a very small handful of life decisions that is TOTALLY REVERSIBLE. You can play around with short hair now, and in a few years you can play around with long hair again if you want to. And yes, growing out a pixie can be a long and difficult process. But who's to say you'll definitely want to grow it out someday? You could become a lifelong short-hair convert. Either way, you can make this change now and it will not permanently alter you. Big picture-wise, it's low risk.

Short hair won't make you any less attractive

And anyone who says it will? They can swing by my house later today and I'll give them a long, stern lecture about the patriarchy and hetero-normativity and controlling the beauty paradigm. Just as women who are short and tall and fat and thin and old and young can all be attractive, so can women with long or short hair. Partners and parents can be pushy and vocal with their opinions about your hair length, but the choice is yours. It may take them a while to get used to the new you. Heck, it'll probably take YOU a while to get used to the new you. But you'll be just as gorgeous and lovely and sensual as you were with longer hair. Promise. Your hair is only one aspect of your appearance, which is only one aspect of your self.

You don't have to have a specific face shape

Those charts showing which face shapes suit short hair and pixie cuts make me want to set things on fire. You know how certain dress styles work fabulously with certain figures? Well, lo and behold, certain short hairstyles work fabulously with certain face shapes. You don't have to go buzz-cut or pixie short to play around with shorter hairstyles. There are plenty of chin-length or shorter options that can ease you into the world of short hair. If you're not sure about the style you'd like to try, consult your stylist. If your stylist offers no or crummy advice, tinker around with hair makeover tools like this one. And if you're still undecided and worried? Try going short in stages. Do shoulder length, a long bob, chin-length. Once you get there, you may be able to move your hair around a bit more to see what it would look like in various super-short configurations.

You don't have to be thin

This is the one that really gets me. OK, they all do, but I've actually had women tell me that they'd love to try my hairstyle but not until they lost a bunch of weight. Will having super short hair make your face look rounder? Maybe. Will it reveal more of your face? Probably. Are these things bad? No, although everyone will have her own comfort level. Faces come in all shapes and sizes, and although balancing your face shape with hair, accessory, and glasses choices can be great, it isn't actually necessary. If you're large or not-thin and want to try short hair, I would encourage you to go for it. Because the whole can't/shouldn't-based-on-body-size-or-shape thing? It's bunk.

Being afraid of "ruining" your looks can be very stifling

Another thing I totally get: Fear of looking weird for a long time. I have a fantastic hairstylist and a magazine-sanctioned face shape, so it's all well and good for me to say these things. But I do understand that a drastic hair change means a big risk. If it doesn't work out how you'd like, you may feel "stuck" or "ruined" or like you've made a horrible choice. And if that fear is stronger than your desire to take the plunge, please don't think I'm saying you absolutely must cast that fear aside and chop away. But, again, in the vast majority of cases your hair will grow back. So if you cut it all off and don't like the end result, you can - over time - change it back. And breaking free of the idea that your looks should be consistent and as close to perfect as possible at all times? That can be freeing. Nothing you do will ruin your looks. Nothing. And you have every right to make active decisions about the aspects of your looks that you can change and control.

Short hair is more expensive to maintain. It can take a while to hone in on the perfect shape and cut for you. And it is risky. But if you've wanted to go short for ages and just haven't been able to muster up the nerve, I hope I've furthered the mustering process somewhat. Because lemme tell ya: I love my short hair so very much and can't imagine ever growing it out. I feel more like myself with short hair than I ever did with long hair, even though everyone in my life fawned over my long curls. And every time I open Pinterest and see a string of darling pixie cut images and accompanying captions of stifled longing, I wish I could project my voice through the computer to that pinner and say, "Go for it."

This is me whispering to you.

Brooklyn jewelry designers have emerged over the past decade or so with a distinct philosophy, fusing the concepts of high-end luxury with low-key presentation. They've also shown a gutsy independent streak, which may go a long way in explaining why so many of them also run their own shops. Their retail spaces become extensions of their design aesthetics and ideal environments for people to enjoy their latest works. Many of these shops double as studios, allowing visitors to see firsthand how the pieces on display come into being.

Fall/Winter Coat Trends and Styling Ideas

$
0

Fall starts out mild and easy when it comes to the weather but everybody knows that colder temperatures are just around the corner. Not to forget the sleet, slush, freezing rain, ice and snow. If you haven't pulled out your winter coats, shoes and accessories like hats and gloves, you probably will be soon. If you're in the market for an update or need a new coat for the job, a few trends and styling ideas:

1. Boyfriend Coat: Boxy and cozy is the name of the game with this piece and it's not a surprise to find that it's a fashion enthusiast favorite. With loose, long lines updating the classic cut and styling, it's a fresh spin for weather. Colors range from camel to light gray, and of course icy pastels which are blues, pinks and mint tones that have less of a richness more of a pale element. This coat is workable with anything you want to wear though it tends to be more of a daytime/casual piece. If you want/need something you can dress up go with a neutral like ivory or camel.

2. Plaid: Plaid's been hanging around for a while on the style scene so its only natural that it's turning up on coats. The look ranges from toggle closures to boyfriend cuts, and all kinds of other styles so really it's all about your personal preference and taste here. Most options available are either red and black, black and white, or green and navy, but look around as you'll find pink and gray, yellow and gray and all kinds of other combinations to the plaid print with a little work. Treat this piece like a basic -- it goes with everything, regardless of cut, style, etc. You can pull the plaid coat off for evening if the rest of the outfit has some glam elements.

3. Capes: The cape might seem a little off-putting or challenging to work with as it tends to be a bit billowed and boxy, along with carrying a specific look. But, it can be worn well and often even through the colder months. Length and cut are key to prevent it from overpowering the frame. If the classic structure and conservative look of the cape isn't your vibe, look around for a print, interesting trim or detail, etc. This item is far more workable and versatile than it might seem -- it works with everything, night or day, work or play. Stick to a solid tone or pared done palette if you want to keep it work/evening appropriate. For colder months layer over something warm, including a jacket or thick knit.

4. Fringe: Fringe hasn't quite exploded on the trend scene but it's without question arrived. This look can be a little western or boho, so if that's not your style pay close attention to the cut and shape of the coat. Anything that's long and loose will lean toward a western/boho look and feel, similar to anything that may be short. No less whatever you choose you can offset the item by wearing it with outfits that draw away from it, like cute jeans and a tee with boots or polished and tailored classics, etc.

5. Parka. The parka isn't new to the winter style scene but it's back again. With good reason -- this piece is both warm, functional and stylish, particularly for those who endure winter's coldest months. This season, army green is the update, though you'll still see plenty of navy and black in play as well. Length can go high or low depending on what your personal taste is. A parka that hits around the hip or slightly lower can be an ideal length for students, moms, etc. while longer is especially ideal if you walk to and from work in a city that has cold weather during the fall and winter months. When styling this item, it tends to lean casual so go with a dark tone like black or navy to add a dress element, or wear with contrasting pieces that feel a little more glam, polished or what not.

You know the zodiac like the back of your hand. In fact, you could probably recite your weekly horoscope and list your compatible signs if we asked you to right now. Though, if we were to quiz you on birthstones (a similarly mystical topic), we have our suspicions your score wouldn't be nearly as high as you'd like.

The Day I Met Oscar de la Renta

I first met Oscar de la Renta in 1998 while flipping through the December issue of Vogue.

On its cover, Hilary Rodham Clinton sat gracefully on a great manicured chair wrapped head to toe in the most exquisite wine colored velvet gown I had ever seen.

I was 14 years old and from that moment on, I knew that whatever I chose to do in life, it would involve beautiful clothing.

Looking back now, I find that it was quite the big dream for a young girl whose parents had just uprooted her from Nairobi, hoping to forge a new life in the frozen tundra of Minnesota. For most of the year, I was subjected to baggy khakis, flannel shirts and puffy coats -- hardly the stylish one in the room.

Over the years, I would meet Oscar de la Renta again and again.

A few more gorgeous gowns in Vogue, snippets of his collection via CNN during NYFW and of course, that delightful scene in The September Issue where Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour happily remarks "fabulous color," as a bright orange ball gown comes waltzing down the room during a preview with the designer.

Then there's that iconic moment in season six of Sex and The City that changed the life of every fan girl. The brooding 'Russian' Alexander Pretrovsky begins reading a poem to his beloved on a lazy afternoon, to which Carrie responds by then reading an excerpt from Vogue about a dress designed by de la Renta, blissfully concluding "now that is poetry."

This act ultimately leads to what can only be described as a fairytale: to be presented with a gorgeous hot pink Oscar de la Renta gown moments before being whisked off to the Met to see an opera.

I recount these moments to say that Oscar de la Renta created beautiful clothing for women of purpose. With each design, he instilled a sense of strength, resilience and romance. Whether you were falling in love with a Russian on TV, accompanying your husband to an inaugural ball on his first day as President or sitting for the cover of Vogue, de la Renta was always by your side.

Dinner for two

I was seated across from a handsome gentleman on Monday night discussing the current state of political affairs over a few glasses of wine when his iPhone buzzed.

Interrupting him mid sentence I said, "I think you have a message from the New York Times."

He looked over at the screen and quickly replied, "Oscar de la Renta has died at the age of 82."

"No! It can't be true," I gasped almost knocking over my wine.

I quickly started rambling on about how de la Renta was an icon, an artist, clearly a talented man who inspired so many people. There was absolutely no way he could be taken so suddenly!

The expression on his face was one of confusion and empathy. He admitted that fashion was not his thing, but he was happy to oblige my moment of disbelief patiently -- the mark of a true gentleman.

For the remainder of the dinner, he asked me many questions about Oscar de la Renta. Where was he from? What were the highlights of his career? Why did women fall so in love with his wedding gowns? Touched by his curiosity, I pulled out my phone and started Googling images of de la Renta's work, proudly showing them off as if I had been part of the journey.

And in a way, I had.

A Legacy Remembered

My father believes that the most important thing a man or woman can do in life is to leave a legacy.

Whether it is your work or your family, leaving a legacy is less about being remembered for your accomplishments, and more about being remembered for how you influenced others to make changes in their lives.

My father tells me daily that in order to leave a legacy, one must first live a life of purpose.

Oscar de la Renta lived a life of great purpose creating clothing that worked for women.

He has since left a legacy of passion, hard work and tenacity.

He was proud to be a Dominican American designer and a member of the 'garment district crew' as I like to call them, dressing household names like Reese Witherspoon, Michelle Obama, Jackie Kennedy, Diane Vreeland and yes, those Clintons.

Oscar de la Renta's legacy will be to encourage his fellow American designers like Nanette Lepore, Zac Posen, Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford and Carolina Herrera to raise the torch and continue creating clothes that work for women. To continue to enhance their strength, support their resilience and always, allow them a little romance.

At least for that 14-year-old flipping through Vogue, this is the legacy of Oscar de la Renta.

Fashionistas everywhere are still drooling over last week's Pharrell Williams' Swarovski crystal cardigan.

It may be only October but Bling is in the air! Right now, fashion magazines everywhere -- on newsstands and online -- are featuring shine, shimmer, and sparkle.

And with holiday coming, bling will be lighting up wardrobes throughout the season and most definitely to ring in 2015. Happily, this top hot trend is embellishing clothing, accessories, and jewelry. Many women (myself included) love the idea of sparkle but are confused about adding it to everyday wardrobes so I suggest starting with special occasion and holiday

Personally, I really can't wait to get my sparkle on this holiday season because I have so many events, both professionally and personally. But like most, I have a budget and I don't want to invest too much in a trend.

So I channeled Pharrell Williams and happily (pun intended!) discovered that we can all bring his sparkle to our wardrobes. And not just any sparkle, Swarovski sparkle! YES! Just like that cardigan! Right now, I'm certain that all Pharrell Williams' cardigan coveting fashionistas love me for unearthing this brand: Touchstone Crystal, a member of the Swarovski Group.

Stylists and personal shoppers know that a great accessory can elevate your outfit, your mood, your day.

Keep Your Feet Happy With These Club Friendly Shoes

As a recently converted New Yorker, I have learned that the only thing worse than wearing white after Labor Day is wearing stilettos to a club in the meatpacking district. Naturally, the cosmos came together and decided to situate 80 percent of the nightclubs in New York in an area with primarily cobblestone streets. You're basically asking to face-plant if you wear 3-inch heels in that kind of environment.

Luckily, mannish flats and booties are ubiquitous, so it looks like all of womankind is safe! Whether it's impractical to wear potentially life-threatening footwear, or you simply aren't in the mood, here are 10 alternative shoes that a bouncer will not turn you away for wearing.

What Brides Need to Know When Buying Wedding Shoes

$

First the proposal, next the ring, the wedding date, the dress and then the shoes or is it the shoes and then the dress? So what do women look for when they are buying their wedding shoes? Regardless of which comes first, is it designer driven or comfort driven? Although it is only one night out of the rest of your life, walking down the aisle in your dream pair of shoes in comfort from designers such as Prada, Jimmy Choo, Givenchy, Kate Spade, Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, Steve Madden or your favorite designer would be a win, win for you and for your feet.

Whether you're looking for a specific style such as sandals, peep toes, pumps or the perfect heel height, you want to look good and feel good from head to toe without being in shoe or feet hell.

According to Lauren Rudy an associate buyer at David's Bridal she notes that "there definitely seems to be an attachment to a certain brand, wanting something to work back to their dress, something that complements it without taking away from it, and being on trend."

Wedding shoes like any other pair of fashion footwear should fit properly and not be too tight, too small or too big. Even if it is the only night you wear those shoes, walking down the aisle, standing in a reception line and dancing the entire night away should be as painless as possible.

Feet come in different sizes, widths and shapes with lumps and bumps in all the wrong places when it comes to buying your wedding shoes. Shoes only come in sizes and widths. If you are purchasing your shoes online, in a bridal shop or at a department store, always buy your true shoe size not ones that almost fit.

The land mines to avoid when purchasing your shoes is making sure they do not pinch in the toe box or rub the top, tip and sides of your toes. That could lead to the formation of blisters and corns. So make sure you have enough wiggle room in the toe box of the shoe. If the shoes are too narrow or wide, by the end of your night your feet will probably be screaming at you to take them off. Feet can swell after being on them all day. Blisters and corns can form on the toes due to constant rubbing, friction and the toes trying to grab the floor of the shoe for stability.

If you have developed bunions or hammer toes over the years you now have to accommodate those bony issues when buying your shoes. Having a narrow heel can also cause problems when buying shoes because of heel slippage. Bunions can trigger the big toe joint to get red, swollen and painful by the end of the night. Hammer toes can increase the chance of developing blisters. Shoes that are too wide can cause the balls of your feet to slide and burn because of excess movement within the toe box area of the shoe. Wedding shoes that have too steep of a pitch such as 4-5 inch heel can initiate muscle spasms in the arch, pain in the ball of the foot pain and toe cramping. That is because of the muscles in the arch of your foot are getting tired and begin to fatigue from the stress of being on your feet that day.

Most women will throw caution to the wind and think, who cares it's my wedding day and I can endure any minor foot pain. However, it is always better to wear wedding shoes that are comfortable, supportive and will last the entire night.

This Is How You Do It!
Always look for shoes with soft leather because the last thing you want to do is break in your wedding shoes. Placing over the counter arch supports in your shoes is the best way to solve muscle spasms and arch fatigue during the wedding day. They will also reduce the burning or ball of the foot pain from wearing 4-5 inch heels. An additional benefit is that there should be less jamming, redness and swelling of the great toe joint due to the acute pitch of the shoe. An added bonus is that they can also take leg and low back fatigue away too after a long night of partying!

Bring your wedding shoes with you if you buy them at a local store to insure proper fit making sure there is enough room for both your foot and the arch support, some products can be too bulky. Buying arch supports online is another option and there are arch products that can just fit in the arch of the wedding shoe regardless of heel height or style. Just peel the adhesive backing off and stick them in. When online type in key words such as, arch supports for fashion footwear, instant arch support or arch support for high heels or wedding shoes. Another way to provide your feet with instant comfort is to place a soft thin inner sole in your shoes they will reduce friction and burning as well as provide extra padding.

And she walked happily down the aisle with her feet feeling great and said "I Do!"

The 28-year-old offered up some tips about maintaining healthy hair during an interview with Byrdie in June.

"I think it’s important to take days off. Whether it’s pulling your hair into a low pony or a sleeker, easy hairstyle, it’s good to not style your hair every day," she said. "I think -- depending on your hair type -- not washing your hair every day helps too, since you’re taking away your hair’s natural oils every time you shampoo."
