8 Times Emily Blunt, John Krasinski And Their Love Won Awards Season

Awards come and go but true love is forever.

Though they missed the Oscars (which is more our loss than theirs), the true winners of the current awards season are Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, who are not only ridiculously photogenic but also ridiculously in love.

The parents to 1-year-old Hazel graced nearly every red carpet, from the Golden Globes to the Critics' Choice Awards, showering the world with their smiles and affection. This couple truly makes us squeal like tweens at a One Direction concert, time and time again.

Like that time Krasinski stared lovingly at his wife of over four years, the Golden Globe-nominee:

Red Was The Unexpected Dress Color Of Choice At The 2015 Oscars

Red can be a difficult gown color to pull off on the famed red carpet. Stars have to find the exact right hue to avoid melting into the scenery. Luckily, the 2015 Oscars red carpet had its fair share of beautiful dresses that were various shades of crimson.

From Solange Knowles to Giuliana Rancic and Rosamund Pike, these beauties managed to stand out while also blending in. Check out all the stars who looked red hot below.

Joan Rivers Notably Left Out Of The Oscars' In-Memoriam Segment

The 87th annual Academy Awards took a break from celebration Sunday night to honor the gifted creatives Hollywood lost over the past year. The tribute, which began with a heartfelt speech by Meryl Streep, paid homage to visionaries including Robin Williams, Mike Nichols, Maya Angelou, Richard Attenborough and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Notably left out of the remembrance was iconic comedian Joan Rivers. The decision was criticized across social media.

"Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year's Oscar show," a representative for the Academy Awards said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com."

While Rivers was not necessarily known for her movie appearances -- though she did co-write and direct the 1978 movie "Rabbit Test" -- the late comic is often cited as having redefined red-carpet culture.

Despite the In Memoriam snub, Rivers did receive one tribute on Sunday night, from her daughter, Melissa Rivers.

"It's hard to believe it was 20 years ago that my mother and I stood on this very red carpet for the first time," Rivers said in a video that aired on the E! network. "My mom asked questions that nobody else dared to ask."

Rivers wasn't the only celebrity not mentioned during the In Memoriam segment: Elaine Stritch, Richard Kiel and Taylor Negron were also excluded.

These Stunning Older Celebrities Ruled The Oscars Red Carpet

At the 2015 Oscars, a lot of eyes were on "Fifty Shades of Grey" star Dakota Johnson, whose date was her movie star mother, Melanie Griffith. The 25-year-old looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder red Saint Laurent gown. But Griffith, 57, didn't look too shabby herself in a très chic all-black ensemble.

Besides Griffith, a lot of other esteemed post-50 celebrities, including two of our all-time fashion favorites -- Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep -- looked exceptionally gorgeous, in spite of the Hollywood rainfall.

Here are just a few of our favorite post-50 celebs at Sunday night's Oscars. What was your favorite look? Let us know in comments.

Julianne Moore
julianne moore and oscars
Moore, 54, is undoubtedly the queen of the red carpet and never misses the mark on what's trendy. Moore often opts for bright colors to complement her complexion and trademark red hair, and she certainly doesn't shy away from daring styles, like the metallic, feathery showstopper she wore at this year's Golden Globes. She didn't disappoint Sunday, wearing a strapless sequined Chanel gown and Chopard jewels.

Robert Duvall
robert duvall and oscars
At 84, Duvall has attended his fair share of awards ceremonies. The Best Actor winner for 1983's "Tender Mercies" looked extremely dapper on Sunday night, wearing a classic black tuxedo and black tie. In January, he made history by becoming the oldest supporting actor nominee ever for his performance in "The Judge."

Meryl Streep
meryl streep and oscars
With Queen Meryl, 65, we always know what to expect. Graceful neutral tones, a soft hairstyle, minimal accessories -- and always a figure-flattering silhouette. Streep just knows her body and what works with it and though you might not see her in the season's latest and trendiest outfit, her red carpet looks are always sophisticated. On Sunday night, Streep looked enchanting in a graceful skirt and blazer set.

Steve Carell
steve carell and oscars
When it comes to men, a tux is pretty standard, but things like hair and accessories can make all the difference. Carell, 52, has been rocking some impressive scruff lately and somehow it's the perfect accompaniment to his red carpet look. On Sunday night, the star of "Foxcatcher" was praised by actress Emma Watson for wearing #HeForShe cufflinks to the Oscars in support of gender equality. (Incidentally, Carell's lovely wife, Nancy, looked pretty darn good herself.)

Oprah Winfrey
oprah winfrey and oscars
Not only is Winfrey an actress, philanthropist and international personality, she also is an expert at dressing right for her body type. Over the weekend, Winfrey, 61, practiced her lines on the Oscar stage wearing a smart, cream-colored skirt and matching sweater. On Sunday night, Winfrey wowed in a custom rose-colored Vera Wang Collection gown.

Michael Keaton
michael keaton and oscars
In 1988, Keaton, 63, caused a stir with the graphic, fitted suit he wore in Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice." And then, of course, there were all the Batsuits he wore in Burton's "Batman" films. On Sunday night, though, the "Birdman" star toned it down, wearing a suave black Ralph Lauren tuxedo.

J.K. Simmons
simmons
Simmons, 60, enjoyed a spectacular night, winning a Best Support Actor award for his performance in "Whiplash." And he looked good doing it, wearing a black tuxedo and matching hat.

Can't a lady take a selfie in peace?

Jennifer Lopez had some unexpected visitors -- Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, if you've ever heard of them -- hop into her selfie at the 2015 Oscars on Sunday night. But she didn't seem to mind the company:

Man Allegedly Goes Into Rampage At Salon Over Price Of Haircut

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — A man who was unhappy with his haircut faces criminal charges after police say he became enraged and threw items around a Connecticut salon.

Stamford Police Sgt. Kelly Connelly says 47-year-old Alan Becker was angered further when he learned the trim he got Wednesday morning was going to cost him $50.

Connelly says Becker kicked a hole in a salon wall, became hostile toward staff and customers, and threw a candle display and other items, then left.

Police say Becker returned later and demanded his hair be "fixed," but the salon refused.

Authorities later arrested Becker on breach of peace and criminal mischief charges at his Stamford home.

A recording on a phone listing for Becker said it couldn't receive new messages. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.

"Cameron" forever.

Benji Madden found a permanent way to show his love for new wife Cameron Diaz: Getting her name tattooed on his chest. The rocker debuted the ink in an Instagram selfie Monday, where the word "Cameron" can be seen scrawled below his collarbone.

"Thinking bout you❤️❤️❤️ #LuckyMan," he wrote.

Madden and Diaz got married on Jan. 5 in an intimate ceremony at the actress' Beverly Hills home after less than a year of dating. They said "I do" surrounded by their famous family and friends, including Madden's brother, Joel Madden, and wife, Nicole Richie, along with pals Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore and Reese Witherspoon.

"We couldn't be happier to begin our new journey together surrounded by our closest family and friends," the couple said in a statement to People magazine.

Sheer dresses made a major appearance on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party Sunday night.

Supermodel Irina Shayk and singer Rita Ora were just two of a bevy of beauties who dared to bare skin in see-through numbers for the bash hosted by Graydon Carter at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California.

Shayk glittered in an Atelier Versace gown, complete with a body stocking, while Ora turned heads in a similar black number by Donna Karan.

Reese Witherspoon Grabs Jennifer Aniston's Butt On The Oscars Red Carpet

Jennifer Aniston may have been passed over for an Oscar nomination this year, but she still managed to look like she was having a good time on the red carpet Sunday night.

Part of the spring in her step could have been due to the fact that she was surrounded by pals like Emma Stone and Reese Witherspoon, who was feeling a little frisky that evening. Aniston was in the middle of chatting with E! News' Ryan Seacreast when the "Wild" star surprised her by playfully grabbing her butt as she walked by.

"Oh, hi, honey," Aniston said to Witherspoon as she turned to see who touched her behind.

The two actresses have been friends for years, dating back to when Witherspoon guest-starred as Aniston's younger sister on an episode of "Friends" in 2000.

"Look at [Reese], she's so cute. So pretty, she's my little sister, even if she's [just] my TV sister," Aniston told "Entertainment Tonight" host Nancy O'Dell in her next red carpet interview, after joking about their friendly butt-grab a moment earlier.

There were plenty of Instagram-worthy moments from Sunday night's Oscars: Kate Upton photobombed Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann, J. Lo and Meryl Streep took a selfie. Friend Zoning the Nice Guy -- Are We Nuts?

0
0
According to Wikipedia's definition of the friend zone, Marshall Fine of The Huffington Post suggests: the friend zone is "like the penalty box of dating, when your only crime is not being buff and unobtainable".

While I find Marshall's quote funny, rejecting the nice guy for many of us, is filled with angst.

If he's attractive, kind, nice and giving, we often turn ourselves inside out trying to figure out what our problem is. Why do we so often shut down sexually and put him in the friend zone?

Is it that we don't really want the nice guys?

Not at all. It's because we don't want what the nice guy has to offer.

While most of us do want a nice, kind and giving man, we only want him to a point.

When a man is too nice, too kind or too giving, we sense bullshit. No one is nice all of the time except for pleasers, over givers and Mr. Nice guys.

If a man falls into any of these categories, at first he might seem wonderful, but below the surface on some level he's a liar, ultimately because he's lying to himself.

Let's start with Mr. Nice Guy.

Women don't want assholes, but we do want real. Mr. Nice Guy is too willing to compromise and never pushes back. He'll bend over backwards for his woman while stepping on his own self-respect. Respect breeds respect.

When a man has no boundaries and gives seemingly endlessly, there's no container there. Container as in an edge to experience and actually feel the other. Being with Mr Nice Guy becomes boring.

Dating Mr. Nice Guy is stagnant. It's like dating yourself. There's nothing to push up against, and ultimately we don't feel met. Being in a relationship with Mr. Nice Guy is like dancing alone with no lead.

Want to go to a movie tonight? Sure. Would it be okay if I cancelled our plans to meet the girls tonight? Sure. Oh my plans fell through tonight, are you available? Sure.

Women don't want jerks, but they do want some flavor and some backbone. If a man is constantly agreeable, there's nothing to add flavor to our world and we might as well be solo.

Which leads me to Pleasers.

Pleasers don't express their moods or their opinions because they're so focused outside themselves desperately seeking approval.

Pleasers become out of touch with what they really want and need because they're not tapped into who they really are or what they really feel.

But here's where the deception ultimately resides: pleasers lie to themselves.

Pleasers tend to be so scared of losing who they want, they set their own needs aside and deny what they feel in order to, well... please.

At first it's hard to decipher, but when we're is in a relationship with a pleaser or overly nice guy, eventually the truth behind his actions is revealed -- he's scared and he's needy.

Needy men give to get back versus giving from a place of truth inside their hearts.

It's one thing to compromise within a relationship and want to make your partner happy, it's quite another to sacrifice your own needs. Needy men have no needs, except for the woman in front of them -- you!

What first appears to be adoration and romance, soon becomes suffocating. With needy men, there's a lack of groundedness that's palatable because needy men aren't truly embodied. They live outside themselves and try to enmesh with the other.

~

Healthy women want to grow. We want to stretch. When we're with Mr Nice Guy or Mr. Pleaser, we feel selfish because there's no healthy way to match their over giving.

We eventually feel stagnant because there's no one to grow along with in life. Suddenly we feel like the man and the woman in the relationships because we're calling all of the shots all of the time.

When we're directing every aspect of our movie together, soon the pressure shuts us down.

So what's the one thing needy men, Mr. Nice Guys and pleasers all have in common?

They are all over givers.

Over givers are ultimately selfish.

On the surface they may appear to be easy-going and kind, but there's a dark agenda often hidden from even themselves. There's an empty hole deep inside that was never tended to, healed, or self sourced.

While it's one thing to compromise and prioritize the relationship, it's quite another to over do all of that.

~

As much as men don't want a drama queen or someone who can't take care of herself, women want a fully embodied man who has done the work on himself and is able to fill those empty holes on the inside, by himself.

When a man learns to express who he really is, while tending to his own needs and having an opinion and life of his own, that's when we're attracted to them.

Men (like women) who are wounded early on in life tend to want to please in order to receive love. They don't know their own self-worth and instead identify their worth through the relationship.

Children who were neglected emotionally often grow up learning to manipulate the other for attention and love versus having healthy self-esteem and self-love. Over giving, pleasing, and playing nice for love are all examples of this manipulation.

Learning to self resource our own needs allows us to partner together as self resourced healthy adults.

Standing there with an empty bucket and hoping to fill it through the relationship with us does not.

It's not that we don't want the nice guys, it's that we want fully embodied men holding a full bucket.

'You Are Beautiful No Matter What They Say'

0
0
Fashion and fame and the glamor of it all has always been appealing to me. For as long as I can remember, I have been watching award shows, beauty pageants and the red carpet. I was always admiring how beautiful and elegant the women looked in magazines and on television. It wasn't until I was much older that I realized it wasn't the designers or the affluent lifestyles that these people had, but that I was truly drawn to the voice that these celebrities had to make a difference with their message; the power they had to evoke change and how their voice, their actions, were amplified for the world to hear and see.

Being a mother in the fashion industry has been a rewarding, yet sometimes extremely difficult, journey. I analyze every decision I make in my career to assure that I am delivering the message that I want Lily to hear. Living a life of example, through my actions, words and thoughts about myself and empower women to own their true beauty is my goal -- acceptance at the highest level of being! You would think success with this genuine sincerity for women at the core would be easy. But it has not been the case. It has been a constant outreach of gaining trust and confidence in a non-judgmental relationship. Women, sadly enough, do not believe that they can be beautiful. Many of us have been raised comparing ourselves to models in magazines and actors on television. I know, because I had similar thoughts when trying on clothes and looking in the mirror as a teen. What I have come to learn through styling numerous models for editorials, portfolio work, etc. is that we all are imperfectly perfect! There are models with stretch marks, cellulite, extra skin and bad complexions, but yet their pictures are flawless. I mean no disregard to the industry of modeling. I think that any female who is willing to put herself out there for people to potentially judge shows strength. I also believe that those models are gorgeous, regardless of edits.

This is why I have set forth on a mission to bring beauty to every woman. I recently organized and styled a fashion show that highlighted some of my VIP clients and very best friends. Initially, when I invited a few of the women to walk the catwalk, they laughed and blew me off as if I had been joking. I was adamant about their participation and strong-armed them into accepting graciously, but with little confidence. It was invigorating for me to style and fit these women in clothes that they normally would never have tried on. Again, my strong-arm tactics came into play (I am fierce at 5'2). What was born at that fashion show was an army of confident women who saw and then believed in their beauty. They finally saw what I was seeing all along.

We all want to feel good, be healthy and like what we see in the mirror, but we have to stop comparing ourselves to illusions that we see as reality. I would be devasted if my daughter grew up questioning her beauty, falling victim to an eating disorder or adversely being so consumed with her appearance that her inner beauty suffers.

I believe we are in a remarkable time of awareness and self-discovery. We have models like Cindy Crawford publishing unedited pictures and actresses stepping up in editorial spreads, as Jamie Lee Curtis did a few years ago. Musicians sing proudly about their body size and "bass." Young adults and children with disabilities are featured in advertising campaigns and most recently, walked the runway at New York City's Fashion Week. Slowly but steadily, we are changing the game.

Holly Fulger, an actress best known for Anything But Love and Ellen, is helping to redefine beauty. She has decided to stand up to the whisper in her ear telling her, "she is not as beautiful as____." With a vision and a voice she has set out to bring The Hollywood Beauty Detectives, Directed by Michael Goi, to life. With Fundly fundraising, she has gained the support of Hollywoods finest and will begin filming in May and ready for viewing in September. We applaud Holly in her efforts to reform our ideas of beauty. For taking the less than popular stance and coming out from the behind the curtain. Bravo!

All of these acts help strengthen the stand of what true beauty is! People with strong voices are coming together to share stories about the importance of accepting oneself. Seeing true beauty can move mountains. When people are confident, comfortable and fearless of judgment, they can reach higher, dig deeper, stand taller and live brighter!

A tremendous thanks to all of the girls at Lowell Academy Hairstyling Institute for joining my efforts in bringing beauty front and center for women sizes xs-3xl.

An Open Letter to JNCO Jeans: Hello Old Friends, At Last We Meet Again

photo: charmar on flickr.

Oh JNCO's. How well do I remember thee.

I remember the tripping over tent-like pant legs down middle school hallways as if it were just yesterday.

I remember sitting on the lunchroom floor in a circle of friends, great expanses of heavy denim pooled around us, touching, intermingling, uniting us into one baggy blob of roughly-woven angst.

I remember the nonsensical combinations of tiny belly shirts contrasted with your incomparable girth.

I recall your absurd price tag (which now, gazing backwards from the era of $200 jeans, is little more than pocket change) and the hours of whining that went into convincing my mother to let me bring you home.

I remember the crispness of the breeze against my preteen legs as your massive openings formed wind tunnels around them.

Oh JNCO's. You were my wings! With your great expanse of pant I could have taken flight.

And yet, too, do I recall how quickly you were folded into the bottom of a dresser drawer, never again to reemerge. You were but a flash in the fashion pan, my onetime loves. Your presence was as fleeting as your hems were long on my 5'1" physique, and yet... and yet... there was never another you, was there?

How quickly upon your departure did a new generation of tighter, much harsher jeans emerge. First low cut flares, with their similarly open bottoms (although worry not, dear JNCO's, they were feeble compared to yours) but dramatically different tops. Tops which crept, sadistically, lower and lower until a new form of underwear emerged. Figuratively... but also literally. With you, dear ones, life had been so simple! There was no special underwear. There was no thought needed for how to decorate one's upper derriere.

Next skinny jeans claimed the throne. Their tightness imprisoned our thighs like support hose cut from an indigo hell, and while they've since softened -- relaxing into their reign -- thus far there has been no long-lasting sign that they will entirely set us free. In fact, sweet JNCO's, I do not think my lower half has been truly comfortable since I was 12 years-old! Since you left, dear heart. Since you disappeared like the wind up your billowing 20-plus inch hems.

But now. Now you are back. Or so every online publication has told me over the past few days. I must admit that when first I read of your return I was a bit hurt that you did not come to me first... but that's okay, I forgive you. It's clear that you've been very busy making your press circuit rounds. And why should you not be? Your prodigious presence defined an era!

Alas, darlings, must now I come to the bittersweet conclusion of this note. This letter is not only a hello again. It is not a reaching out with open arms ready for your rough denim-y blanket-sized embrace. As I tell you hello once more, I must just as quickly say goodbye.

You are not for grown up me, dear ones. Sweet JNCO's. One time beloved pant. These more fitted jeans have me firmly in their viselike grip and I'm not sure that I've the hipness to escape. But you, you will go on to greater things! Rihanna, the youth of today, those who are far hipper and less afraid of tripping in public than clumsy I.

Don't weep for me, dear JNCO's. We will always have seventh grade.

Love forever,
Rebecca

Leonardo DiCaprio Reportedly Threw Rihanna A Birthday Party, So Maybe They Are A Couple?

0

Rihanna celebrated her 27th birthday in style on Friday, with a party courtesy of rumored beau Leonardo DiCaprio.

For months, rumors the actor has been romancing the pop star have been brewing, ushering in the era of RihCaprio (or Rihanardo as commenters over at Jezebel suggested). And now, this party held at a private home in Beverly Hills makes us think these two might actually be dating.

In addition to the birthday girl and DiCaprio, People magazine reports that the guest list included Mick Jagger, Jim Carrey, Bill Murray, Naomi Campbell and Paris Hilton, while Us Weekly notes that Beyonce, Jay Z and Russell Simmons all showed up to the A-list bash.

The party, which raged on until the wee hours of the morning, was apparently the perfect setting for People's source to analyze Rihanna and DiCaprio's body language:

"They weren't couple-y but they would flirt and dance so definitely a little magic there," the source told the magazine. "They were definitely flirty and dancing, but not over the top."

Last night happy #Bday @badgalriri #rihanna #LA

The first rumblings of RihCaprio rumors can be traced back to January, when the two partied together at the Playboy Mansion before the Golden Globes, and were allegedly spotted "making out." Rumors raged on as, shortly after, the stars were both spotted partying at the same hotel. Us Weekly seems to think that RihCaprio is the real deal and claims the alleged couple "took their fling to the next level " and spent Valentine's Day together.

On the flip side, sources now tell the New York Daily News that RihCaprio is not a thing, and that Rihanna is getting close with Up & Down club owner Richie Akiva, who posted a photo of himself with the singer on her birthday and wrote, "Happy Birthday! #badass #sweethearted."

8 Easy Beauty Hacks We Learned From The Runway

Fashion Week, whether it's New York or Milan, always brings out the best beauty looks that run the gamut from beautiful to outrageous. As one might expect, it's rare to see beauty runway trends that are realistic for everyday wear.

Among all of the designers involved with New York Fashion Week earlier this month, there were a select few who showcased beauty looks that could be translated from the runways to the real world. Proenza Schouler and Rodarte featured soft, loose waves that were created quite simply, while Creatures of the Wind showed elegant manicures that are at once great for the office and effortlessly chic for a night on the town.

Take a look at the easy makeup and hair hacks below that will inspire some serious DIY alone time.

Twin DJs and the Parties Worth Noting at NY Fashion Week

2015-02-22-BFA_11370_1387434.jpg

There are some shitty things about "doing" fashion week (insert your woes here) that are among the highest on my list. But there are some good things about New York Fashion Week. Like this year, All-Star Weekend was also happening, so there were lots of events to choose from and people to see. Noticeably, there was a rapper present at almost every fashion show and after party. If you're reading this, it's too late: Here are highlights of what people did last week.

The Best Twin DJs At New York Fashion Week: Angel + Dren

2015-02-22-unnamed2.png
Angel + Dren's biological chemistry is evident, especially their shared style on spinning since they even learned to DJ at the same time. But Angel says that they don't always like the same songs, so playing it on repeat to either, 1) persuade her sister or 2) until it becomes annoying, is usually how a clash in music taste is settled. At the beginning of fashion week, I finally saw the twins perform on the rooftop at the Gansevoort Hotel for the Essential Homme magazine party. During their DJ set, Angel + Dren took turns playing international remixes from the Top 100 list, along with popular Rap and R&B songs, which had the crowd dancing and looking genuinely entertained. Although, I'm not quite sure who or which twin started playing some 90s tracks, that genre is always a good thing. The twins also DJ'd the Jonathan Simkhai presentation and often make appearances in Atlanta.
Rapper of the Event: Chingy

Best Finger Foods: Express x Stephen Curry Launch Event
Although, I didn't get to talk to NBA player and Creative Director Stephen Curry (maybe his GF's resting face deterred me), the food caught my attention. Shrimp cocktail on plastic straws, bite sized Tuna Tartare, mini burgers stacked on trays, and yummy cheese balls were heavily circulated around the room. Sports people get hungry.
Rapper Of the Event: Ludacris.

Best Crowd: Hyde Miami at Bounce on 21st Street

2015-02-23-1bounce_.gif

Bounce is a known stopping spot for Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union. Kendall Jenner was a no show even though she RSVPed (probably had to get her beauty rest), but that didn't put a damper on the crowd who was dancing and watching the game, and drinking all at once. The best of Bounce clientele and the best of Miami came together to bring some serious heat to New York. And we really needed it. Miami is known for throwing some of the best events in the world, so it was nice to see the Miami step into the New York scene and truly make a difference.
Rapper of the Event: Fat Joe

Best Hospitality: Purple Magazine + Rag & Bone Party
Around 1 A.M on Monday, I headed downtown to the Standard East with a few writers and industry people to check out the crowd Purple Magazine managed to drag out of their beds. Upon arrival, I headed over to the super stocked bar for a glass of champagne and did not return. During a conversation about a It Girl throwing a fit because of the politics of the front row, a cute bottle girl topped off my champagne glass with Moet, and kept visiting us so we didn't have to push through dozens of people hanging at the bar. A writer from Guest of A Guest (which ironically described my status at this party), said that this was the best place to tonight and the whole week. However, the novelist I was with said differently because no one was dancing. Still, it was nice to see vinyls used during the DJ set, though I can't comment on the genre of music because I'm still not so sure what I heard.

Best Music: Jeremy Scott After Party at Space Ibiza New York
2015-02-22-jscott_afterParty.JPG

As one of the last parties of New York Fashion Week, after Kanye West made his umpteeth appearance at a fashion show, this time to see Jeremy Scott's collection, I was excited to see the crowd who would make it out to the west side highway. Scott's team did not disappointment to invite an eclectic mix of 80s inspired club hipsters with space inspired plastic head pieces and oversized sunglasses amongst many more rainbow, alien like costumes in a smoky, remodeled warehouse off of the West Side highway. Thankfully, I checked my coat, which consisted of registering it through a kiosk. My ticket was replaced with just a text messaged straight to my phone- nice! By 2 A.M. I spotted ASAP Rocky in VIP, along with a few other well known bloggers cutting up the dance floor. But 2:15 AM, this party girl needed her bed, but I was leaving behind a crowd turning up by the minute, and I'm sure that After Party lasted way past 4 A.M.

This is Up & Down's third season contributing to fashion week, and they've managed to host all the major and new musical acts on repeat. Influencers, musicians, artists and the fashion set including: Makonnen, Rihanna, Mark Ronson, Ludacris, J Cole, ASAP Ferg, Naomi Campbell, Rihanna, Kate Nash, Russell Simmons, Alexandra Richards, Hannah Bronfman, Kyleigh Kuhn, Chelsea Leyland, Timo Weiland, Leigh Lezark, Mia Moretti, ASTR, Brandee Brown, Wynter Gordon, Theophilus London, Becka Diamond, May Kwok, DJ Kiss, Richard Chai, Shaun White, and more people who were probably in the cut, all came out to show the club some love. There were always musical performances by some up & coming artist, like Justine Skye who performed at Galore Mag's Valentine's Day party. Interestingly the club almost acted as an official stopping place for anything at anytime of the night, as lines were down eighth avenue. Passers by had no idea what was going on, gawking at what people were wearing.
Rapper of the event: Dej Loaf (Although there were many more present)

At the Oscars, It's Always About the Gown's But What About the Shoes!

Everyone talks about the gorgeous gowns and you see all the sparkling jewelry on the celebrities as they walk down the red carpet at the Oscars but what about the shoes! The problem is since the fashion experts can't see the shoes everybody is wearing they get left out. The only time a shoe had its 15 seconds of fame during the entire show was in the beginning when Ann Kendrick threw one of her Jimmy Choo shoes across the stage. Maybe the reason nobody talks about shoes is because you cannot see them under the gowns and out of sight out of mind. But we all know that under those gorgeous gowns are feet that are walking in designers shoes such as Malono Blahnik, Badgley Mischka, Christian Louboutin and as we know Jimmy Choo just to name a few.

However, choosing your shoes is the single most important decision one makes when deciding what to wear. Because, when the evening is over your feet will tell you how much fun you had or how long you were able to last. No matter whom you are if you're invited to go to the Oscars or any special event you want to wear your favorite designer's shoes. It is part of the uniform but after a long day of walking, standing, partying and waiting for your limo you probably cannot wait to take the damn shoes off. Your arches can start to hurt, the balls of your feet will begin to burn, your toes may begin to cramp, blisters can form and your legs can get tired.

Since feet come in different sizes and shapes finding the perfect shoe for an evening such as the Oscars or any event can be a daunting task. The wrong pair of shoes can make the whole evening a very uncomfortable experience.

Here are a few helpful tips to follow when trying to figure out what shoe to wear for any special event you attend and how to speed up the recovery after a long day on your feet. Make sure the toe box of the shoe is high and wide enough so the tops of your toes will not rub, get pinched or form blisters. If the shoe is not wide enough the great toe joint can get red and irritated. Regardless of what heel height you are wearing after a long day the muscles in the legs and arch of your foot can fatigue, cramp and spasm. By placing an arch support in the arch of your shoes it can instantly take pressure off the balls of your feet, balance the muscles in the arch of the foot and eliminate the chance of any type of muscle problems in your legs and feet.

Soaking your feet after you get home in warm water and adding some herbal bath salts can sooth your feet too and if you're lucky enough to have someone massage your feet afterwards it would be a win win!

So when the event is over and you take your shoes off for good, although to the fashion experts it's was all about the gowns, it's really about the shoes!
