Worth the wait!

Kourtney Kardashian welcomed her third child, Reign Aston Disick, back in December 2014, but we hadn't seen any photos of him, aside from one of his tiny little hands. On Thursday, the eldest Kardashian sister finally shared a snapshot of her newest addition, and he's even cuter than we imagined:

Helen Mirren Shares The Best Fitness Advice Ever

At 69, Helen Mirren's figure is one that women of all ages can envy, but it turns out her physique hasn't been honed by hours in the gym. In a recent interview with People Magazine, the actress revealed fitness tips even an exercise novice could use.

"I don't go to the gym," she told People. "I'm trying to go." She noted a few tips for all the gym-avoiders out there who need to start a fitness regimen. "Buy yourself a fabulous workout outfit. Put it on and do four sit-ups and take it off and get in the shower," she said.

Sounds like our kind of workout.

But no, you won't get a killer bod like hers with just four sit-ups. Mirren, who was named the new face of L'Oreal Paris last year, said it's important to start out small and build your way up. "My thing with exercise is start really easy, just so you only do three sit-ups ... Then do four next week and the next week do five," she said.

But if you want to look as fab as she does on the red carpet or in a bikini, you'll have to put in a little more time. But don't worry, 11 minutes is all you need. Last year, Mirren told Hello! Magazine she's a follower of the Royal Canadian Air Force workout. "It is the exercise I have done off and on my whole life. It just very gently gets you fit. Two weeks of doing that and you think: 'Yeah, I could go to the gym now'," she said.

The simple workout can be done anywhere and involves basic exercises like sit-ups, running in place and knee bends, all designed to make you fitter and stronger in no time. Perfect for anyone who hates going to the gym.

Thanks, Dame Helen.

Man's Vacation Without His Wife Was Miserable, And He's Got The Photos To Prove It

Without love, what have you got? Apparently, a viral photo series.

When Kevin Blandford couldn't take his wife and daughter on a free vacation to Puerto Rico last month, he turned his ennui into a hilarious set of photographs.

sad vacation

Blandford told The Huffington Post he won the trip for his work performance as a quality assurance engineer for a large telecommunications company.

He could've brought his wife on the five-day trip to the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa, but his 7-month-old daughter had to stay home because of liability issues. His wife didn't want to leave the baby.

He now faced the terrifying prospect of a vacation without these two:

Instead, Blandford invited Alec, a former colleague and close friend.

Alec took a picture of Blandford at the airport, and the pair realized he looked utterly miserable. "We thought it was very funny," Blandford recalls.

The idea for the photo series was born.

“Of course he’s hilarious. And I’m relatively funny myself," Blandford humbly admits. "So we put me in the most ridiculous places we could think of."

The resulting Imgur series, "Not a single second of fun in Puerto Rico," went viral, with several websites taking note of the photos.

“I’m just really happy that a lot of people found it funny," he said.

His newfound viral fame might help him take the vacation of his dreams down the line: Blandford said he's been contacted by a Puerto Rican tourism ad agency that wants to give him and his family a free trip back to the island.

Sounds like a win-win to us.

Conscious uncoupling clearly works for Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.

The pair, who announced their split last March, enjoyed a family vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with their kids, Apple and Moses, this week. Paltrow looked tan and toned in a black bikini while the Coldplay frontman covered up in a hat, long-sleeved shirt and shorts.

Just because a romantic relationship ends, doesn't mean a friendship can't continue, and Paltrow and Martin are proof of that.

"The idea is you try to do it with minimal acrimony and you say, 'Look, we have kids, we’re always going to be a family and let’s try to find all the positives in our relationship, all the things that brought us together, the friendship,'" Paltrow said of her split from Martin on The Howard Stern Show in January. "We actually have a really strong friendship and we laugh and we have fun."

10 Things I Know About Beauty Now That I'm 50

$
0
0
Oprah was right! 50 is going to be awesome. You're too old to be a young fool and you're too young to be in Depends.

Beauty at 50
(50 is also a good time to start wearing vintage Esther Williams swimwear.)

In my teens and 20s I never felt beautiful enough. I thought I was too skinny, too flat-chested, too pointy-chinned, too hairy-thighed and I had no idea what to do with my thick, frizzy, Irish thatch-roof hair.

Having been raised Mormon I also had no idea the lady garden could be manicured, hence I could've repopulated the entire rainforest with my pubic foliage.

There was also the small matter of being attracted to philanderers. For the longest time I thought they cheated because I wasn't beautiful enough.

Two words. Halle. Berry.

Men who cheat do so because they're cheaters not because we're not beautiful enough.

In my 30s I was pregnant twice which meant I felt fat and invisible. I coined the name THE WOMAN FORMERLY KNOWN AS BEAUTIFUL when I was 7-months pregnant with my second child, standing in line at the meat counter at Bristol Farms in Beverly Hills.

Five butchers (count 'em ... five!) were helping a young, non-pregnant Pussycat Doll select a pound of cackle while I festered swollenly nearby trying to order one freaking carne asada!

Eventually I passed out from hypoglycemia due to a LACK OF RED MEAT and when the paramedics arrived they forgot to collect my 50-lbs.-up limp form off the ground because they were too busy helping the Pussycat Doll carry her boneless, skinless chicken cutlets to her car.

Now here I am pushing 50. I've got a loving, faithful husband, kids who are pretty self-sufficient and I've accepted the last 10 lbs. of the pregnancy weight as mine for keeps.

So here are some of the things I know about Beauty at 50.

1. DON'T WEAR LOW-RISE JEANS:

They're just not for 50-year-olds. I've spent more money trying to find shapewear that will keep my muffin top from spilling over my low-rise jeans like gak from a pre-schooler's fist than I can afford. Which leads me to this...

2. DON'T WEAR SHAPE-WEAR UNDER YOUR LOW-RISE JEANS:
You're going to feel like you're in a hot, sweaty body cast when nothing is actually broken.

3. DO NOT CUT YOUR HAIR SHORT:

My hair is massive in every way. It's thick and coarse and explodes around my head like a nuclear mushroom and it hangs halfway down my back. And for the first time in my life I freaking love it! Perhaps I'm just happy I still have hair.

A dear friend I'll call Beth cut her usually waist-length hair short after she had children to make her life easier. Then, when her kids were tweens, she developed breast cancer. The chemo took all of her hair. She was bald for the better part of a decade as she fought her cancer.

By the time she was 50 she'd stopped relapsing and losing hair, and began to let it grow. And grow. And grow. She told me she just didn't have the heart to cut it again when it had been gone for so long.

Now, at almost 60, Beth's hair is waist-length. And guess what? Her long, lush hair looks beautiful and she looks beautiful with it. Age-appropriateness be damned.

4. YOU LOOK BETTER THAN YOU THINK YOU DO:

I spent the years after giving birth missing my formerly slender frame instead of appreciating my newfound voluptuousness. I actually had breasts for the first time!

But instead I worried I was too fat. I fixated on the afore-mentioned muffin top, what I perceived to be neck flesh you could pack the contents of an overnight valise in and the concern that my nose was getting longer.

So I did something radical, I posed for nude photos at age 46 and the kicker? I posed in the exact same positions I'd done at age 26.  No, I'm not a professional stripper named Santana, but I had body image issues in my 20s and the nudes I took back then helped me see myself with gentler eyes.

When I saw this round of nudes I thought my plan had backfired. I was mortified by what appeared to be a broad-flanked crone (my nose definitely seemed longer).

But in the words of Kenneth Alton, a lovely man who commented on my nudes on The Huffington Post--

"I have often considered it a trifle foolish the way that shallow youth is considered inherently beautiful. There is such a terrible beauty which only age brings, a depth of power that only deepens the sense of mystery that utterly, completely, captivates."

Feeling beautiful in your body is one part maintenance, one part acceptance.

5. HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY IF YOU WANT TO:
There's no shame in it. I woke up one day and noticed my eyelids were heading for the border with a chalupa in each fold. I had a brow lift/blaphorestomy and I love it. I'm me, but perkier.

6. DON'T HAVE TOO MUCH PLASTIC SURGERY:
See Carrot Top.

7. MOVE:
Forget about losing weight. Just move. It doesn't matter if it's walking around the block with your dog or doing a mini-triathalon. It could even be just making love in a challenging position. (Humpbacked Bridge anyone?)

This is the time to inhabit your body fully, to thank it for taking you this far, to breathe into it and feel all of its furthest reaches. Just move. If you don't like it at first, do it anyway. Eventually moving your body will feel like coming home.

8. TRY SOMETHING NEW:
I've started taking ballroom dance lessons and practicing my Cuban motion on a daily basis. Although my oldest daughter has begged me to stop practicing the Merengue in the bleachers during her softball games. She's young and self-conscious, I'm old and incorrigible, which is so much more fun.

9. KEEP LEARNING:
When my kids were little I was in the trenches. There really wasn't time to learn news things because I was just trying to stay ahead of the onslaught of needs, crying, pooping, barfing, keeping them alive and not sleeping.

But now my kids are 11 and 13, and developing their own unique interests. So I've been learning html coding, building a new website and getting my life coach certificate. Because I also seem to be wise! Who knew? I can feel my atrophying brain coming alive again.

"Exuberance is Beauty" -- Roland Barthes

10. GIVE YOUR LOVER A PROPER KISS ONCE A DAY:
That means no "make it quick" little pats on his back. It means standing toe-to-toe with him. Wrapping your arms around his back. Running your hands through his hair (if he has any). Pressing your cheek to his, so you can feel his stubble, smell his skin. Looking him in the eye, even if it frightens him a little, and then, to paraphrase Barthes again, pressing your lips to his so that through your mouth your soul can pass into his.

Now that is beautiful!

If Not Diana, Then What? 25 Name Suggestions for the New Royal Baby

$

0
As the baby countdown gets underway with the commencement of Kate's maternity leave, speculation abounds as to the baby's intended name. According to People.com, British bookmakers are betting on girl names such as Alice (noble) and Elizabeth (God is my oath). For boys, James (supplanter) and Arthur (bear) are the frontrunners. Below I present my picks for both girl and boy names for the royal-infant-to-be.

In my Huffington post article 8 Reasons Why William and Kate Should Not Name Their Daughter Diana (01-28-2015), I suggested six baby girl names based on tradition:

  • Louisa Victoria (warrior, conquerer)

  • Mary-Elizabeth Alice (bitter sea, God is my oath, noble)

  • Marie Caroline (bitter sea, beautiful), Victoria Frances (conquerer, free)

  • Elizabeth Leona (God is my oath, lion)

  • Julia Marie (youthful, bitter sea)

Trendy suggestions included Charlotte Amelia (free, excel) and Chloe Elizabeth (verdant, God is my oath). Of course, Camilla (perfect) is a no-no.

There is current controversy regarding whether or not the William and Kate will eschew tradition and instead go with Diana (divine) as a name. Jennifer Moss, my co-founder of BabyNames.com, is one such proponent, stating "Like many women my age [Diana's age], I adored her and would love to see them use the name. However, I think it would be prudent to use Diana as a middle name so the baby doesn't feel she has to live up to Princess Diana's beloved image." Another option would be to name a daughter (at least via middle name) Frances (free), Diana's middle name. In contrast to my sister's opinion above, my own opinion is that Diana would not be an appropriate name as it both goes against traditional royal naming practices.

But what about boy names? In contrast to the British bookies, I don't think James will be used as it already a name of one of Queen Elizabeth's grandchildren: James (Viscount Severn) is the son of Prince Edward (Earl of Wessex and brother to Prince Charles). James is also the name of Kate Middleton's brother and too close in the family tree to follow tradition and avoid confusion. Claude Albert Thomas (lame, noble, twin) would be a tribute to Queen Elizabeth's maternal grandfather (Claude Bowes-Lyon) and a pairing with his brother George, who was named after Queen Elizabeth's paternal grandfather. Albert would be a nod to both Queen Elizabeth's father and Diana's paternal grandfather. Thomas would be in honor of the many Thomases in Kate's family tree.

Other boy names in the new royal baby's family tree include:

William's side: Charles (free man), Philip (horse lover), Edward and Edmund (both meaning wealthy protector), and Louis (famed warrior).

Kate's side: Michael (who is like God?), Ronald (counsel rule), John (God is gracious), and William (strong willed warrior) -- the latter not an option for obvious reasons.

There is no doubt that speculation will continue throughout each day of Kate's maternity leave until the long-awaited day of the baby's birth arrives and the name is announced. Regardless of his or her name, we know from day one this baby will be internationally adored.

Proof That Negative Body Messaging Is Everywhere, In One Photo

$

A photo of baby onesies has reignited conversation about the harmful messages in gendered marketing for kids' products. On Thursday afternoon, Jason Y. Evans, a manager of media services at NYU, posted this photo of two onesies for sale at an NYU bookstore.

I had a very difficult time not raging out about this in the college store. These are onesies...for infants...guess which one is for girls and which one is for boys. THIS is the problem.

Posted by Jason Y. Evans on Thursday, April 2, 2015

The product on the left is Wry Baby's "I Hate My Thighs" onesie that sparked controversy last month. On the right is the brand's superhero-themed onesie that reads "I'm Super."

While the photo doesn't indicate if the products are meant for specific genders (and Wry Baby's website does not divide its snapsuit products by sex), Evans' photo caption -- "guess which one is for girls and which one is for boys" -- suggests that the store may have marketed the onesies in that way.

Beyond the issue of marketing that plays into gender stereotypes, the body-shaming message "I Hate My Thighs" has certainly raised a few eyebrows. Michele Kort wrote on the Ms. magazine blog on March 10, "Yes, we know -- it’s meant to be funny. After all, the company that sells this onesie with the saying 'I Hate My Thighs' is named Wry Baby. And we feminists do have a sense of humor. But really, there’s something icky about projecting fat awareness on babies."

A March 17 poll on Today.com showed that readers are split -- 51 percent of 2600+ people polled think the "I Hate My Thighs" onesie is "offensive," while the other 49 percent find it "cute."

In response to all the criticism, Wry Baby removed the "I Hate My Thighs" onesie from its website, and wrote to Ms. magazine, "We couldn’t agree more about body image. That’s why we made an ironic joke about it. Obviously no baby would or should hate their thighs!"

As this viral recent photo indicates, however, it remained on sale in retail stores. Evans reports in an update on Facebook that the NYU Bookstore removed the product after a rash of phone complaints yesterday.

"It's also refreshing to see that I'm not the only one outraged by this kind of thing. #thereishope #whyineedfeminism," he wrote. Yep.

12 Illustrated Comebacks To Sexist Backhanded Compliments

$
0
0
Subtle sexism is hard to point out, especially when it comes in the form of a compliment.

A series of illustrations called "Backhanded Compliments," drawn by 19-year-old artist Vanessa Papastavros, show how often women receive compliments that are actually insults.

"The insult is subtle, it's encased in some flattery, but at the end of the day it's still singing the same broken-record tune: as a woman, you are not meeting my standards," the Australian-native told The Huffington Post.

The series features drawings of women, each paired with a backhanded compliment she's heard in the past and the way she wishes she had responded. The women included are of all shapes, sizes and colors.

Backhanded compliments are a special kind of insult, Papastavros said. "They are often exchanged in a more personal format, and directly tailored around your insecurities. They are often said by people you know well," she continued. "And, most unfortunately, they are a passive-aggressive form of body shaming that tends to leave you feeling offended but powerless to protest."

The backhanded compliments highlighted in the series primarily revolve around women's looks, such as "You look so much prettier with your hair straight," and "You would look so pretty without your glasses."

Story continues below.
asian

The series was initially based on backhanded compliments Papastavros and her friends had received. After the drawings gained some traction on her Tumblr page, Papastavros invited followers to share the backhanded compliments and "sugarcoated insults" they had heard, and she illustrated some of them. Most of the submissions came from women.

"Backhanded compliments are disproportionally aimed at women, and that's hardly a surprise," Papastavros. "The body-shaming culture perpetuated by both men and women links back to the belief that a woman's worth or value is found in her appearance or desirability. Often, people are trying to put down or subtly control a woman's decisions about her appearance through a backhanded compliment. They want to make you into what they consider acceptable and attractive."

"Unlearning this way of thinking starts with educating oneself about body positivity, feminism and basic human decency," Papastavros continued. "It's all about broadening your view of beauty and where it can be found, and embracing that with confidence."

Check out some of Papastavros' amazing illustrations below:

3 Ways to Boost Your Confidence and Your Revenue

$
0
0
One of my favorite topics to talk about is confidence. Perhaps because for years I wore what I like to call, 'the veil of confidence' under which I was hiding an ocean of insecurities, self-doubt and limiting beliefs.

Outwardly, people thought I had it all together. But the truth was, my business wasn't expanding because I didn't have the confidence I needed to promote myself, share my message and most importantly, charge my worth.

Ironically, one of the greatest results my clients would tell me I helped them achieve was a tremendous increase in confidence. That's when I noticed a trend. After working with me and boosting their confidence, my clients started to double, triple and even quadruple their income!

Their businesses were soaring and when I interviewed them all, the common thread was that they felt "true confidence." This newfound confidence was giving them the courage to take more risks, to forgive themselves for mistakes and mishaps and to create bigger and more ambitious goals.

That's when I realized, we all have to take off that veil and slip into the new little black dress I call, CONFIDENCE.

We've underestimated how valuable confidence is as a form of currency. It's a major problem in our current society because far too many women lack authentic confidence. They don't know how to build it and they're not realizing how this is grossly affecting their revenue and financial net worth.

Dr. Timothy Judge from the University of Florida has conducted several studies and found that those with higher confidence had better job satisfaction, performance and made more money.

To take it a step further, a recent Glamour magazine survey found that 67% of women have never asked for a raise!

We're leaving money on the table at every turn because of a lack of confidence. And it's a two-way street.

Your lack of confidence in yourself also affects your employer or client's confidence in you. We're all designed to attract or repel. When you're wearing your little black dress of confidence, you're consistently attracting people who want to be a part of your sphere. They want to be in your space because you're sending a silent message that not only do you trust yourself, but you too can be trusted with their most pressing needs.

Whether you're in corporate America or running your own business, it's time to boost your confidence and build your revenue. Here are 3 ways you can get started today.

1. Knowledge breeds Confidence.
The more you know about your industry, the easier it is to take on the role of expert. You do not need a degree to change someone's life. But you do need to know your stuff. Take a moment right now to ask yourself, "What do I need to learn more of in order to really feel confident in my industry?"

Next, grab your calendar and schedule time over the next 21 days to get more knowledgeable. Even a simple 20 minutes per day to brush up on a specific component makes a difference. This one step alone changes the game for you and helps you find true confidence.

2. Master your Story.
Bo Eason, arguably one of the greatest live speakers I've ever witnessed, once said, "The highest paid person in any industry will be the best storyteller." And it's been said repeatedly, "People will call you what you tell them to call you."

That means you need to master the art of telling your story, claiming your title, space and worth. Once you do that, no one can say anything to the contrary. And quite frankly, when you tell your story with confidence, people will rarely ever challenge you.

To take confident action on this step, reach for your favorite journal and start writing your story as it pertains to your most pressing goal. For example, if you're offering a new product or service, what personal and highly relatable story can you share with a prospect? You'll want to tell a story that allows them to see themselves in that exact situation and how your offering can solve their problem.

When you can do that - when you can master a story for every occasion - you'll attract more people thus increasing your revenue.

3. Demand Your Worth.
The definition of the word demand (according to Google) is, "1. An insistent and peremptory request, made as if by right. 2. Ask authoritatively." If you truly want to boost your confidence and your revenue, then you need to demand your worth.

Stop settling for what others say you deserve, and focus on what you have determined you are worth. When you do that, the people you are meant to serve will respect you and honor your request because you'll have given them a reason to be confident in your abilities to fulfill their needs.

A note on demanding your worth: you can politely, respectfully and very kindly demand your worth. No need to go cussing people out and rudely imposing your requests; that would be the easiest way to repel people.

Remember, your financial net worth is most certainly connected to your self-confidence. Apply the 3 tips above and you will see an expansion in both your confidence and revenue.

Cosmo Apologizes For Their Racially Controversial Beauty Story. But Was It Necessary?

$

Cosmopolitan magazine has gotten itself into some seriously hot water thanks to a story the glossy posted on its website in January entitled "21 Beauty Trends That Need to Die in 2015."

Fast forward three months and the story is at the center of a controversy that has labeled the piece for being racially insensitive. Users on Twitter rediscovered the feature and were upset that the publication used white models and celebrities, with the exception of Nicole Richie who is bi-racial, to illustrate the beauty trends that are "in" for 2015. Meanwhile, all of the women of color who were included -- again, besides Richie -- were identified for rocking looks that should "RIP."

Buzzfeed pointed out a few of the more perturbed readers who called out this distinction and took to Twitter to voice their frustration:

Supermodel Joan Smalls even joined the chorus of offended readers and Cosmo responded with an apology.

cosmo

Cosmo also updated the story with an apology for its part in offending readers and overlooking the lack of diversity across categories. The statement reads:

Many readers remain disturbed by the story, especially in light of the fashion industry's blatant lack of diversity. Racism should never be condoned -- and I'm the first one to wag my fingers when racism rears its ugly head.

However, the angry tweets make it seem like ALL the beauty don'ts in the article are depicted by black women. That's not true. So, is it fair to label the story racially insensitive? In reality, a majority of the don'ts are illustrated by white women. Therefore, the perception that something highly racist was happening arguably doesn't appear to be the case. The real problem is that there wasn't any diversity in the "Hello, Gorgeous" category of the article.

With that said, the bigger takeaway is that if there were more people of color on these magazine staffs chiming in when stories are being produced, racially charged instances like this could perhaps be avoided.

Ingrid Nilsen's popularity reaches into the millions. She's a top YouTuber -- one of an elite cadre of young video stars whose focus on makeup, fashion, and lifestyle attract a vast audience of girls and young women.

In an interview with HuffPost, Ingrid displayed her belief that beauty is much more than skin deep.

Michael: You're essentially a very private person who has found herself thrust into about as public an arena as there could be.

Ingrid: That's exactly right. It is interesting to be in this space, because I know other YouTubers as well who are definitely even more private than I am. We've found ourselves in this space where our jobs are very much in the public eye, so it's a bit of a challenge to find that balance, but I think everybody eventually figures out what works for them.

Michael: So you get to dictate where the line is.

Ingrid: It is nice to have that option where I can kind of carve my own path. And it's not like I'm walking outside of my house and people are waiting outside for me, because that would be absolutely terrifying. I wouldn't be comfortable with that level of attention. I love the relationship I have with my viewers because they're always kind and respectful.

Michael: You've gone from doing videos that are strictly fashion and makeup to more introspective pieces. Tell me about that transition.

Ingrid: Another YouTuber creator said it best: "Your viewers are both your peers and your boss." So it's an interesting relationship to have, and you want people to like what you create. But you also need to do what's meaningful for you, and I just really had to sit down and think, what is meaningful to me right now? What is going to bring me fulfillment? And I just kind of crossed my fingers and hoped that people would like it, but if it wasn't getting billions of views, but there were a handful of people that really connected with it, that's all I really wanted. And that's all I've ever wanted.

Michael: What prompted the shift?

Ingrid: Last year was my biggest transitional phase, because I was 25, and like most people smack-dab in the middle of their 20s, I was figuring out who I am, and re-examining what I'm doing. It really took a lot of thought. I wanted to create things that were meaningful and a true reflection of where I am in my life. I wanted that to come across in video, but I wasn't sure how to do that.

And it just took time to get inspiration and to figure it all out mentally, and to figure myself out also. And there definitely is that pressure of "I have to keep up with the pack! Everything is moving so quickly, and I need to keep up so I don't fall behind!" But I think that it was more important to me to follow the transitional phase, as confusing as it was for me, and create something really awesome out of it, and turning it into something that I could look back on and be proud of.

Michael: Sounds like the beginning of a trend.

Ingrid: We will see a lot more of that as creators on Youtube continue to grow up, because there are still people in their teens and going from that transition to being in your 20s, and people in their 20s growing up. You're 20s just in general are weird, because you're no longer a kid, but you kind of feel like...am I really an adult? Is this really what adult life is like? So it's an interesting time and I'm definitely still figuring it all out, one step at a time. But it's been a cool journey for sure.

Michael: A soul-searching kind of journey.

Ingrid: Soul-searching is the perfect way to describe it all. My friends around my age are going through the same thing and no one really knows how to vocalize it. It's like this internal struggle that everybody is going through.

Michael: What were the biggest takeaways from the introspective time?

Ingrid: The #1 thing is stop worrying about what everybody else is going to think. In addition, I've realized that my lifestyle has changed over time naturally, as it does especially as you get older. And I've really started to embrace a "less is more" philosophy. Living with less in turn allows me more space to do the things that are really meaningful to me. And when I'm not worried about all the material stuff, I can focus on the things that either bring me joy or serve a purpose or a combination of both. It's been something so helpful for me, and it's really helped clear my mind.

Michael: How has this been reflected in your videos?

Ingrid: I've been changing around the format of my videos so there's more of a storytelling element, where I'm sharing personal experiences and personal stories, and integrating that into my videos, with really great shooting and almost like a film quality to them. That was something I wasn't sure how people were going to react to. When I started producing stuff that wasn't just a 100 percent beauty video, and talking about things in a different way, it has been absolutely incredible to see the response. I have just never been so moved by my viewers ever...ever in all the five years I've been doing this, and it just made me want to give all of them a hug, because I felt like we were all on the same page. It's just the most amazing feeling.

Michael: You felt a need to go deeper and it actually corresponded with your audience's unspoken desire, to go deeper in their own lives.

Ingrid: That is totally true, because from the beginning I've always said that I believe that beauty is more than skin deep, and my channel has just been a way for me to really experiment with that and translate that message into video form.

Michael: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Ingrid: My overall goal with all of this is to create a community where I can support women with incredible talents. Whether it's undiscovered writers, or lesser known artists, and creating a community where that is possible and those women can be supported and their work can be shared. That's what I'm about. And I would love to have a brand with physical objects that reflect all of that. So it's all kind of a little bit vague right now, but essentially I want to create a really amazing community of women that have something awesome to share with the world, and I want
to help them share that.

Michael: Beauty and makeup brought you to a position of prominence and created awareness about you, and as a result of having that platform, you're now in the position where you can speak to broader, deeper issues that affect women you age.

Ingrid: Yes, definitely. And there are still plenty of times where I can make a video and talk about beauty products and just be a girl, and sit down and talk like I'm talking to my girlfriends. So it's just a really great balance to have, because I can dive deep and I can also talk about a pair of shoes that I've really loved wearing for the past month. And I feel like that is the dream combination.

We Can't Stop Watching This Epic 'Operation: Save The Date' Video

Just when we think we've hit saturation point with viral wedding videos, something comes along and surprises us.

Tyler Macniven and Kelly Hennigan announced their wedding date with "Operation: Save The Date," an epic "Mission Impossible"-style adventure short. On a quest to save an envelope containing their wedding date, the happy couple snorkels through the ocean and battles enemies with garters, a bomb-rigged wedding cake and a bridal bouquet.

"We love a good pun," Macniven explained to The Huffington Post. He says the couple came up with the idea while on a run in the Marin Headlands near San Francisco.

Parts of the video were shot with a DJI Phantom Vision 2+ drone, capturing the stunning sweep of San Francisco Bay.

Macniven said the cast are all "good family and friends who we bribed to help using sandwiches and champagne," which took up most of the $400 budget. The bride's brother is a former WWE wrestler and played a supporting role as Thug #1.

Macniven, who runs the West of Pecos restaurant in San Francisco, is no stranger to the camera himself. He made a documentary about walking the length of Japan, and won Season 9 of "The Amazing Race" with a friend.

Hennigan is completing a PhD program in cognitive neuroscience at Stanford University.

Macniven says they'll bring the same adventurous spirit in the video to the wedding itself: "Instead of a cake cutting, we're going to have the traditional cake explosion, where we blow up a giant wedding cake."

What's more, he says, wedding guests will have to sign liability waivers for the "secret hijinks" they have planned.

We can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves.
