Army Vet Mom Makes Bracelets From Old Uniforms To Support Military Families

An army veteran is honoring the nation's armed forces by wearing her heart on her wrist.

Elsa Zarate, a military mom and veteran, is making bracelets out of old uniforms to honor the country’s armed forces. Called Bands4Courage, her business supports troops and donates part of its sales to support military members and their families, Today.com reported.

"I started brainstorming and realized, 'What better way to honor the uniform as well as the men and women who wear it?” Zarate told the news outlet.

bands courage

The project began as a way for Zarate, who lives in Boise, Idaho, to feel closer to her son -- a Marine -- when he was deployed overseas. She used one of his uniforms to make a wearable band, telling KTVB, "I just wanted something to remind me of him, to feel that connection."

Zarate’s idea resonated with other people, and she soon launched a website for the bands, and began receiving special requests and uniform donations. Each bracelet, which ranges from $5-$15, comes with a certificate with information about the person who wore it, KTVB reported. Zarate told the news outlet a family once sent her the uniform of their son who died in Afghanistan.

According to Today.com, Zarate donates 50 percent of Bands4Courage sales to organizations that help military families. Her designs, many of which are custom orders, represent every military branch.

"The whole mission is to give back and to help out,” she told Today.com. “It's to create a connection between military members and the people who will honor their sacrifices.”

It is an undisputed fact that the Internet loves dogs. And especially dogs in clothes. So we thought, why not do a roundup of dogs in swimsuits? There's a chance it could break the Internet, but we're OK with that. And sorry Kim K., but you ain't got nothing on a beagle in a Hawaiian-print two-piece.

Behold, we bow down to the real HBICs, in bikinis.

mens fashion

Despite the fact that we ladies have filled our closets and cosmetic bags to capacity, we still grab clothes and products from the men in our lives. There's something about his roomy clothes and rich colognes that are just begging to be used. And let's face it, men's items are often more affordable -- especially when they're coming from his dresser.

We wanted to know exactly what our female Facebook readers are snagging from their beaus, so we asked the following:

Ladies, do you love wearing your husband or boyfriend's button-down shirts, or using his body wash? Well, you're not alone. Tell us which items you like to borrow from the boys! And be specific -- we want to know which brands and why.

Here's a look at a few of the responses. Tell us some of your favorites in the comments section below.

"I love wearing his robe because it's over-sized and smells like Lacoste cologne!!" -- Facebook user Chelsē Mittermaier

"I love using my husband's razors, Bic brand, I actually don't know why, and also wearing his Degree deodorant because it reminds me of him throughout my day." -- Facebook user Dulce Diaz

"LL Bean flannel or chamois shirts." -- Facebook user Leslie Davis

"Love his Dove men's shower wash and his white T-shirts." -- Facebook user Michele Cormier

"If I'm really in a hurry, and they're right there in the dryer, which is in the bathroom, after a shower, I use my husband's undies. They're very comfy! I always use the body wash. Sometimes the deodorant. I hope he can't see this ... haha." -- Facebook user Carol Lynn

"His Calvin Klein Eternity cologne. I absolutely love it on him! Sometimes I'll put a dab on the inside of my wrist so I can smell it and think of him." -- Facebook user Katie Fallon

"His Zara long neck hoodie and Calvin Klein boxers for lounging around the house." -- Facebook user Nadège Lauren

"His Hanes socks. His Hanes T-shirts." -- Facebook user Tracy Lyon

"I love his deodorant -- Old Spice classic. He's gone for long periods of time and smelling it makes me feel more calm (which is great when dealing with a 3-year-old). I've never smelled anything that smells that close to what it advertises." -- Facebook user Kristin Glover

"I love his Cool Water after shave ... smells so sexxay!! I'll put it on if I'm feeling bad ... hmmm, I'll go put some right now!" -- Facebook user Teah Angela Lockerby

"My husband actually sprays his Hugo on my pjs while he's away. When he was deployed I would use his Axe as my bubble bath. It helps me relax." -- Facebook user Tresa Lynn Lamberts

"Any kind of pajama pants. For some reason the men's seem to have pockets and the women's usually don't. How is that fair? Haha." -- Facebook user Danielle Vieck

"I wear Old Spice Fiji deodorant. Gel stick only, most ladies deodorants, solid or gel, give me a terrible rash in my underarms. I've never had an issue with Old Spice. And Fiji smells a little girlie." -- Facebook user Samantha Alice

And finally...

"I like wearing my boyfriend." -- Facebook user Susan Means

Kaley Cuoco Goes From Pink To Pinker With Bold Eyebrows

Kaley Cuoco took the pinkness up a notch at a recent photo shoot by bringing her eyebrows into the mix.

The "Big Bang Theory" actress shared some behind-the-scenes photos from a shoot with hairstylist Jen Atkin and photographer Mike Rosenthal for hairstyling site Mane Addicts Monday. In the snapshots, Cuoco rocks bright pink eyebrows. The color is a bit bolder than the cotton candy hue she dyed her hair back in April.

Cuoco loved experimenting with pink tresses and her husband, Ryan Sweeting, approved, too.

“Ryan loved my pink hair,” she told People magazine. “He’s really cute about that. He’s one of those people who is like, ‘You’re beautiful every which way.’ But he loved the pink. Every time he looked at me, he was like, ‘Oh, it’s like I got a new wifey in town!'”

9 Pinterest Projects I'm Officially Giving Up On (And You Should, Too)

$

The Pinterest universe is filled with intricate hairstyles, ornate cakes, all-white bedrooms and nonchalantly beautiful people that all seem to suggest You can be this immaculately put together, too! All you need is a braid tutorial and a cookie sheet! But the line between aspirational and depressingly unattainable is often frighteningly thin.

I've been using Pinterest over the past few years, mainly as a recipe sorter, but also as a destination for pretty photos, inspirational home decor, haircuts I'd like to get and DIY projects I convince myself I'll actually take on at some point. It's oddly fun and mindless to scroll through my feed and sort aesthetically pleasing images into organized boards. There does come a point, though, when I reach Pinterest saturation and I end up feeling more inadequate than I felt before I had mentally promised myself I'd live such a perfect, crafty life.

Its seems only healthy to periodically do a Pinterest "life audit" of sorts, just as Arianna Huffington did with her daunting bucket list when she turned 40. Rather than wallowing in guilt about not learning German or becoming a good skier, Arianna freed herself from the weight of those unfinished tasks by simply crossing unfinished items off her to-do list.

"It was very liberating to realize that I could 'complete' a project by simply dropping it -- by eliminating it from my to-do list," she wrote. "Why carry around this unnecessary baggage?"

So instead of feeling bad about all of those lattice top pies and mermaid braids I still haven't attempted to recreate, I've decided to unload the baggage of pins that spark the I'm-such-a-failure dialogue in my brain.

pinterest

1. I will never do this overly complicated twisted side braid.
What made me think I'd have the patience to weave my hair into a beautiful tornado, let alone dig through my bags to find enough bobby pins for it to stay put?

2. I will never make this crepe cake (or any crepe cake, for that matter).
Ain't nobody got time for that.

3. I will never be this chic.
Barring the unlikely event of a romance with Prince Harry, it seems likely that I will never be a British royal.

4. I will never make a terrarium in a syrup canister.
I would love to know what prompted me to think, "Ooh, let me save this activity for later!" There is no later for me and a decorative plant encased in a condiment container.

5. I will never be able to do cool, '60s-inspired cat eyeliner with glitter.
One eye always comes out poorly, and my glitter skills are sorely lacking. C'est la vie -- you can't be good at everything.

6. I will never have a "Godfather II"-era Al Pacino as my boyfriend.
The world is a cruel and unusual place.

7. I will never make my own lipstick.
The 87,000 colors available at Sephora will have to do.

8. I will never be a minimalist pixie dream girl.
Seriously, how does one not spill coffee in an all-white bed while tousling hair and thumbing through a magazine?

9. I will never repurpose wine crates to make kitsch storage units.
I'm pretty OK with that, actually.

Sorry not sorry, Pinterest.

This Owl Ring Bearer Is A 'Harry Potter' Fan's Dream Come True

This dashing ring bearer was a real hoot.

Groom Shaun Palmer surprised his bride Adele and all of their guests by having an owl named Bilbo carry the rings down the aisle at their July 2014 wedding in Roker, Sunderland, United Kingdom. But it wasn't until the video was posted to YouTube on Friday that it began making the rounds online.

Internet folks have pointed out that this bird bears a striking resemblance to the late Hedwig of Harry Potter fame.

Palmer told The Huffington Post that he first came up with the idea to have an owl ring bearer after seeing it advertised at a wedding show a couple years before their nuptials and thought it would be an awesome way to surprise his bride. He said, though, that his best man Chris -- who was tasked with intercepting Bilbo at the altar -- wasn't totally on-board with the plan at first.

"I actually booked the owl before I'd even spoke to Chris, my best man," he said. "When I did phone him, I said, 'How do you feel about an owl landing on your arm to bring our wedding rings down the aisle?' He said something along the lines of 'no chance' to which I replied, 'Well, it's a bit late now -- I've booked it!'"

The groom told HuffPost that the owl was both "brilliant" and "so well-behaved."

After the ceremony, the handler stayed with Bilbo so the guests could meet him and take pictures.

"It gave a great bit of extra theater to the day," Palmer said.

Why Tamar Braxton's New Clothing Line Will Be Your Summer Shopping Obsession

Since Tamar Braxton first stole the spotlight on WE TV's "Braxton Family Values," the 38-year-old singer has snagged a spinoff reality show and became the host of daytime talk show, "The Real." And just when we thought she couldn't fit anymore on her plate, Braxton launched an eponymous clothing collection.

tamar collection

The Tamar Collection by Tamar Braxton, which debuted earlier this year, is the star's first foray into fashion. The line's body-con dresses, fitted blazers, jumpsuits, luxe track pants, and sexy stilettos align with Braxton's high-end personal style, but thankfully lack the hefty price tags. Everything in the collection retails for under $160, so all the Tamartians (aka the devoted followers and fans) out there don't need to go broke while trying to look fly.

Tamar Braxton Collection

Ms. Braxton stopped by The Huffington Post to show us the Summer 2015 collection and chat with us about her personal style, which celebrities she'd like to see in her collection and some of her most unconventional beauty secrets.

What's your favorite look from your new collection?

It has to be the white bohemian look that I wore to the collection lunch event last night. I can't wait to put that with a pair of shorts. It's so versatile.

tamar collection

Are there any celebrities that you would love to see in your clothes?

First of all, I love Victoria Beckham. That would be amazing. J.Lo is one of my fashion icons too. Maybe [Beyoncé]. Rihanna. Everyone I look up to, fashion-wise.

Your personal style is fabulous and we know you wear a lot of designer clothes. But why did you want to make sure that your clothing collection was affordable?

Because I don't always want to spend the coins on designer clothes. Thank God most of the time I'm able to afford the things that I want. But the people that watch us on TV and listen to my music, they can't always afford that, and I want them to feel fabulous as well. I know when I put on a Versace outfit I'm like, 'Yasssss, I feel amazing!' So I want them to have that feeling when they put on the Tamar Collection. That's why I work so hard to make sure that we have quality clothing at an affordable price.

tamar collection

Are there any beauty products or tips that you live by?

I don't put a lot on my face because I'm so sensitive. Everyone things I'm crazy because after I wash my face with Dove -- it's the only soap I can use -- I ice my face.

Seriously? How does one do this?

Yes, you must. I learned that from Bette Davis. It stings but it's worth it. You cup the ice in your hands and hold it to your face for as long as you can. Sometimes you drop it but you've got to pick it back up. It takes down inflammation and tightens your skin. It's amazing.

And what do you put on afterwards?

Jesus.

Hahaha! OK, well, how has your fashion and beauty regimen changed since becoming a mother?

I have no time for me, so my get-ready time is like 10 minutes. I have to throw on comfortable things that are still all-day wear. And I'm not just trying to say this about my line -- but it's the truth. I can throw on these vegan leather track pants, sandals, a jean jacket and kill it! I believe in two-minute outfits that are comfortable and still stylish.

Photographer Dwayne Schmidt captured the moment and shared it on his business's Facebook on Saturday, calling it "one of the best things I have ever [gotten] to see, much less photograph." At the time of publication, the post had amassed more than 47,000 likes and counting.

The photo shows the couple holding hands and closing their eyes as to not catch a glimpse of each other before the ceremony. The groom is saying a prayer aloud, while his bride-to-be stands around the corner.

"It broke me down to know that we felt the same way about God," the bride told ABC News. "It just made me happy."

The soon-to-be-newlyweds weren't the only ones who were overcome with intense emotions.

"The whole room was full of emotion," Schmidt said. "I tried not to cry and focus on what I was doing."

These Photos Of Androgynous Stunners Will Change The Way You Perceive Beauty

While celebrities including Grace Jones, David Bowie, Prince and Tilda Swinton are widely praised for their androgynous styles, individuals who live in the "real" world can face ridicule for their gender-blurring (and sometimes gender-erasing) fashion and beauty choices.

Even though androgynous model Rain Dove faces this criticism on a daily basis, her outlook is inspiring. "Not everyone will see your beauty and not everyone will find you attractive or believe you are worthy of their clothing or publications," Dove told The Huffington Post. "You have to be satisfied with just being authentically yourself at the end of the day."

For examples of #androgynousbeauty, we asked members of the HuffPost Lifestyle and Gay Voices' Instagram and Twitter communities to send us photos that demonstrate how their styles shift traditional perceptions of gender roles. See some of the most incredible images below.

5 Ways to Own Your Beard, Like James Harden

2015-05-25-1432583642-691400-james_harden_wallpaper_by_michaelherradurad63few2.jpg

Beards are, simply put, awesome!

As a blogger, we come across a lot of things, some are hilarious, surprising, sad, and inspiring, and the idea of a Beard Clinic , is certainly all of the above. I suppose, I just never considered how hard it is for a man to grow a beard, until literally, a few minutes ago. Nor, how much a man could want a beard.

But I suppose with men like James Harden, making the beard, the great accessory that it is on and off the court, who wouldn't want to rock a beard?

According to an April 2015, study detailed in the journal Biology Letters, men and women shown men's faces, consistently rated faces with beards or stubble as more attractive than those of their clean-shaven counterparts.

"The mean attractiveness of a suite of faces is altered by the frequency of beards, the link between beard prevalence and preference could alter the cultural dynamics by which facial-hair fashions vary..."

Now that we know, that owning beards is actually cool, let's take a moment, to understand and appreciate the ways in which James Harden has made rocking the beard so awesome!

wallerz.net

Confidence makes all the difference, and James Harden, owns his beard like a freaking BOSS! His confidence alone makes it easy to understand why he is the perfect spokesperson for the bearded man.

He holds his head up, his gaze meets you directly, while the beard sits there, clean, coiffed,
and clearly, very easy to admire.

He keeps the beard clean and combed allowing us to focus on the beard itself, not the pieces of food or junk that could be lodged in the beard. One thing I cannot stand is an unshaven man, who has a hard time keeping his beard clean, after all, what girl wants to pick crumbs out of her man's hair while they get 'hot & heavy?'

sportstalktasha.com

He hires only the best to care for his beard I mean doesn't it make sense? After all, his beard covers such a large portion of his chiseled face. Only another bearded man, can understand the needs of a man like himself!

2015-05-25-1432583295-3861225-images5.jpg

He is not ashamed to represent the bearded man on covers of magazines James happily graces the covers of magazines, takes on interviews, and proudly does so with his clean shaved, well manicured beard in tow. He happily represents the bearded man, and he does so confidently and with pride.

hoopeduponline.com

He surrounds himself with other confident bearded men in order to walk with like minded men. I mean, doesn't it just make sense?

James Harden make beards not only cool, but sexy, and is a reminder that bearded men are something special, so if you are having trouble growing that full beard, and are considering a beard transplant, then give it a shot!

Jennifer Lopez Handles Confetti Bomb Like A Pro

A little confetti can't break J.Lo's stride.

Jennifer Lopez was confetti bombed by a clown while walking through LAX on Tuesday. The 45-year-old, who sported a cropped sweater and short, shoulder-length hair, was hit with a shower of rainbow paper, but kept right on walking.

The confetti culprit was none other than Richie the Barber, an LA-based clown known for his pranks and elaborate tattoos. Us Weekly noted he was also behind the confetti bombing of Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian last year. The Kardashians allegedly wanted to pursue charges, but Richie said he meant no harm and was only trying to "congratulate them on their success."

The tweets celebrate larger women's bodies that aren't always considered "traditionally" beautiful. The photos women have shared of themselves are even more proof that we need to expand the definition of beauty.

Cher Looks As Glamorous As Ever In New Marc Jacobs Ad

We're going to count this as another major win for fashion: Cher is the new face of Marc Jacobs.

A photo posted by Katie Eleanor Grand (@kegrand) on

On Wednesday morning Katie Grand, the editor-in-chief of Love magazine and Jacobs' longtime collaborator, Instagrammed a photo of Cher in a new Marc Jacobs ad from Women's Wear Daily. The 69-year-old singer looks ever the badass in a long black dress from the designer's fall 2015 collection and a pair of black gloves. We should have known Jacobs was cooking something up with the legendary entertainer when the duo appeared at the Met Gala together a few weeks back.

Cher's ad for the American designer is just the latest in mature models starring in high-end fashion campaigns. So far this year we have seen Joan Didion for Céline, Joni Mitchell for Saint Laurent and Iris Apfel for Alexis Bittar (just to name a few). Now this is one fashion trend we can get on board with.

Now that spring has sprung and we've officially kissed our winter clothes goodbye, we can now happily wear the sundresses, shorts and all the other skin-baring threads our hearts desire.

But not so fast. While it might be a steamy 80 degrees outside, it probably feels more like a frozen tundra inside your office. Aggressive air conditioning is definitely something we've all dealt with at some point, and shivering at our desks isn't going to get that pile of work done any quicker.

So, before hypothermia sets in, you'll want to make sure you have a few clothing options at your desk that are both cozy and chic. Throwing on a cardigan is probably the easiest way to do that -- whether you opt for something in cotton, cashmere or even a wool blend. You can also drape a cardi over your shoulders to add a bit of trendy styling in your pursuit of warmth.

Oversized scarves, or blanket scarves, had a major moment this past fall and winter, so you might already have one. If so, make sure it's at arm's reach when things get chilly at your cubicle. Plus, no need to worry about whether you look like you're wearing a blanket -- there are so many ways to rock them with style.

Check out the picks below that will prevent you from turning into a block of ice while on the job.

13 Things No One Tells You About Buying An Apartment In New York City

For some, living in New York City satisfies a temporary fix, a checkmark on life's bucket list. For others, it's forever.

Maybe you were born and raised in New York, or maybe you showed up one day and never looked back. Either way, for those people who are in it for the long haul, spending money on rent every month is daunting. And if you're lucky enough to be able to do it, buying an apartment in New York is a solid investment that can be even cheaper than renting.

However, there are some things that happen if and when you decide to take the plunge. Things that you might not necessarily have realized until you're knee deep in paperwork and brokers' business cards.

They are:

1. Your weekend plans completely change.
"I would love to have brunch, but I have 10,000 open houses to go to."

2. HGTV becomes your worst enemy.
Watching people buy mansions in other parts of the country with your studio budget will make you cringe.

3. ... And binge watching it will make you consider picking up and leaving New York altogether.
"But look at what I could get in Iowa!"

4. Your priorities will change.

"Big kitchen" changes to "anything with counter space" real quick.

5. But your standards shouldn't.

6. The process is a lot like dating.
Looking ... different in photos is equally as awkward on a date as it is at an open house, for example.

7. It takes forever.
Figure out how long you think it should take. Now triple it.

8. A lot of people have lots of cash.

All cash offers are real, and they're more than a little discouraging.

9. The board interview is not as scary as it seems.

10. You will be forced to become independent in completely new ways.
Remember the rental days when your building was responsible for ... everything? LOL.

11 .You will learn a lot.
Even the most financially clueless people have no choice but to grasp some understanding of the housing market and all that goes with it when it's all said and done.

12. You will also want to quit. A lot.

Weekend after weekend of attending open houses is daunting and can feel like a waste of time. It's not.

13. It's totally worth it in the end.
Owning a piece of real estate in the greatest city in the world and knowing you're making an investment when you write that check every month feels really freaking good.
