Consider the fanny pack. No, really, consider it. Why wouldn't you want to carry -- or wear -- an incredibly practical bag? You can stuff all your belongings in it and walk around with your hands free.

Before you roll your eyes, you should know that fanny packs have changed quite a bit from the polyester neon versions you carried around in the '90s. These days, they're made out of leather, suede and even calf hair. Designers like Alexander Wang, Tory Burch and Rebecca Minkoff are making trendy options that you're going to want to scoop up -- seriously.

And if that doesn't convince you, you should know that Jared Leto is a big proponent of the fanny pack's comeback. Don't you want to make him happy?

Check out some stylish ladies wearing the hotly debated bag below and shop some of our favorite options. And for goodness' sake, get your fanny out of the house and go buy a fanny pack.

Proof That Rose Gold Jewelry Looks Great With Almost Every Skin Tone

If you didn't know the story behind rose gold before watching the video above, then you're not alone. But chemistry aside, what we do know about the pink-hued precious metal is that it's totally beautiful.

Most people either identify themselves as a "gold person" or a "silver person," choosing one of the metals as the best color for their skin tone and personal style. However, we've noticed that rose gold tends to look great on everyone. Could it be the most universally flattering metal ever? We think so.

"Rose gold is amazing -- it pulls out the blushy undertones in so many different skin colors," jewelry designer Ariel Gordon told The Huffington Post. "There's just a harsher contrast against the skin when someone is wearing yellow gold, silver or platinum jewelry. Rose gold is much softer, but still makes a statement."

And beyond skin tone, the Los Angeles-based designer says that rose gold looks great when worn with other metal hues -- so no need to ditch Team Gold or Team Silver when rocking it.

We've conducted a bit of research via Instagram to illustrate just how awesome rose gold looks on a spectrum of skin tones. Make sure to check out the rose gold jewelry we pulled together at the bottom so you can get in on the fabulosity.

Back in February, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and North West were involved in a car accident after a ski trip in Montana. It turns out that cameras were rolling at the time their car skidded off the road into a ditch.

In a preview for the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" mid-season finale, airing on Sunday, viewers get a peek at just how scary the crash was for the family, especially for Kim, who cries out, "I don't have my seatbelt on, holy shit!"

No one was injured in the accident, which was caused by poor road and weather conditions. When all was said and done Kim took to Twitter, writing, "Thank you God for watching over us and keeping us safe."

Meanwhile, Kylie shared a clip on Instagram on Wednesday. "[S]uch a scary experience," she wrote:

This Sunday! Peep my baby Bambi in the beginning!& that accident!... such a scary experience

About Style

$
0
0
I guess we all have this question in our minds: What makes people stylish? For some the starting point is their hair color because it's the focal point in their silhouette, for others getting dressed is like telling a story about who you are (and that allows them a personal unique touch), some are inspired by people on streets or icons in movies or a piece of music you can't get out of your head and they translate this inspiration their own way.

Getting dressed with style implicates elegance, and elegance is not a matter of taste it's a moral quality as well. Elegance comes from the inside. Style doesn't lie. It's a personal construction, the expression of our deep desire and taste. And our taste is composed of our own personal history.
For a few it comes naturally. For the rest, you require a bit of outside help.

Cocteau said that frivolity is the best antidote for anxiety. I subscribe to it being a form of poetry added to our daily life.

A recurrent question I'm asked is how feasible it is to have style without wearing
brand names. Style does not need brands. It needs three main ingredients
1 A honest look in the mirror
2 A basic knowledge of what works with what
3 And a cheat sheet - thank you internet and fashion bloggers!

Clothes are tricks allowing us to reinvent ourselves. Every season, fashion brings an opportunity to re-invent one self. So, this summer, go crazy and buy a piece that will last only one season.
Here are some insights on this summer's trends:

Jeans will always be an essential to our wardrobe. Straight, skinny or flared are perennial pieces. Do be aware of your body type as you select.

Don't forget the denim jacket, it's a practical trans-seasonal piece. Also check out the shirts, dresses, jumpsuits and shorts in denim.

While you're at it, get rid of old pairs of jeans you've not worn in the last couple of years.

Prints are big and can add a spark to any dull wardrobe, but they are a challenge.

If you don't think you can master the art of mixing and matching prints, stick to horizontal or vertical stripes or fresh florals prints.

For the overly cautious, let your accessories sing, with prints on bag or shoes.

For the "rock-star" fashionista, try a printed neck tie, a smart leather jacket and flashy ankle boots. Simply combine them with shorts, an A-line skirt or a shift dress, they'll shake your look.

A neat dress around the knee in classic colors is an office must have. These casual dresses, like shift dresses, can effortlessly transition to after-work chic by adding the below:

A colorful belt, a statement brooch or necklace, or a pair of colorful stilettos. My favorite summer piece: a light printed summer coat.

Lace and English embroidery worn with gladiators or wedges can update your style.

Suede is being reinvented this season. Buy a coat, shorts, a fringed jacket, dress or skirt to recreate the 70s .

Khaki or military pieces combined with feminine details make for a stylish look, not war! A parka worn over a silk, strappy dress, for instance.

Wide cropped pants, for the fearless - with heels and cropped top.

Quick tips:

• Don't wear mass market versions of copy/paste catwalk looks, it looks like you are trying too hard.
• Avoid cheap fabrics like elasthane, coton mixed with nylon...They don't fall properly and they don't age well
• Refresh the basic items in your closet every six months or so. It makes a difference.
• Always expect to alter store bought items for the perfect fit.
• Do not buy items in the wrong size because they are a good deal

A woman's dressing says almost everything about her life.

In fashion, as in life, quantity doesn't equal quality.

This Dress Was Expensive, Therefore I Should Keep It?

$
0
0
Are you keeping, or even worse, wearing an article of clothing that does not show off the best you because of the label on the item or because you originally paid a lot of money for the item?

The first place to start is determining your image priorities. If it turns out that one of your priorities is to project the best you, then let go of items that do not suit you. Many people tend to sacrifice so much more than the money they have shelled out by prioritizing expense (perhaps even from decades ago) over fashion sense.

When I go through my clients' closets, I never factor in the label or the original cost of an article of clothing in determining whether an item is a keeper versus a donation candidate. I can rhyme off several examples where a client wanted to keep an outfit because of the label attached and/or the original cost of the outfit. However, when they put the outfit on, it did not give off their best and in many cases they looked like an outdated flashback to the time period when the outfit was originally purchased.

Any time a client indicates they would like to keep/wear an article of clothing that does not give off their best because of the label on the item or the original cost of the item, I always ask how much is this item really costing them in the long run? - a job, a promotion, a missed romantic opportunity, lower energy?

Why would you want to keep and/or wear an item that...
-Is not in your seasonal color palette? [revealed through a color analysis consult]
-Does not maximize your body silhouette?
-Does not show off your personality?
-Looks outdated or worn?
-Does not excite you?

The best way to avoid overspending and/or filling your closet with items that don't belong there in the first place, is to place a higher priority on shopping with your color palette, style, lifestyle and personality needs in mind. By doing so you will stop wasting your time and money filling your closet with items that are costing you more than money in terms of potential lost job, promotion, social and romantic opportunities, etc.

I also recommend reviewing the contents of your closet once every season to ensure your closet remains up-to-date to align with your changing lifestyle needs.

My suggestion, base your clothing decisions on your personal fashion sense rather than original expense.

I hope this article inspires you to wear your authenticity!

Is Niger The Fashion World's Emerging Capital?

By Nathan Siegel, OZY

There’s an international fashion show that occurs just once every two years but has grown into a magnet for both established international designers, like Yves Saint Laurent and Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as aspiring local up-and-comers. No, it doesn’t take place in Milan, Paris or even New York City. Welcome to Niger — the land better known for battling Boko Haram and al-Qaeda than grooming fashionistas.

Known as the Festival International de la Mode en Afrique (or FIMA), the event — its catwalks and accompanying trade show — now attracts 60,000 visitors, double the attendance it had before moving to Niger’s capital city, Niamey, in 2007. It was pioneered by African fashion legend Alphadi, who’s known for his fusion of Saharan and Western styles, and has stretched to four days (from just one) to showcase young global designers, the next generation of African talent, established names and a final day for music. (This year’s show in November is set to feature Nigerian Afro-pop singer Yemi Alade.)

For tomorrow’s de la Renta or Versace, though, this festival has become a crucial space for Niger’s local talent to get a spot in the limelight. Fashion schools don’t exactly abound in this West African country, after all, although festival organizers are looking to change that. In fact, they’ve just broken ground on a new school, says festival general manager Moulaye Seidnaly. And while the country still faces plenty of development woes, its little-festival-that-could is “weaving together a peaceful Africa with education and industry,” Seidnaly says, with the hope of pushing forth change as it promotes local goods and designers.

Cox shared a selfie on Instagram Wednesday looking fresh-faced and radiant while oceanside. In her caption, the "Orange Is the New Black" actress said she appreciates both the work and the downtime she's afforded.

"Finally a few days to relax," she wrote. "I feel so privileged to be able to do work that I love and very privileged to be able to take time off occasionally. I take none of it lightly. Always good to have days with no makeup to let my skin breath. #washfacenobase #TransIsBeautiful."

No doubt things will get busier for the 30-year-old star as press ramps up ahead of Season 3 of "OITNB," which returns to Netflix June 12.

These Are Bantu Knots, Not 'Mini Buns.' There's A Difference.

It's been well over a year since Marc Jacobs sent models sporting Bantu knots in a mohawk formation down the runway at his Spring 2015 Marc by Marc Jacobs show. But a related hair tutorial recently published on the beauty blog Mane Addicts -- and later removed -- sparked outrage among many black women and men for linking the style to Marc Jacobs, rather than acknowledging its actual roots.

marc by marc jacobs spring 2015

Mane Addicts posted the tutorial on May 17, telling readers how to replicate what they called "twisted mini buns inspired by" Marc Jacobs' show. Readers took to comments and social media, arguing that calling the hairstyle "mini buns" rather than Bantu knots seemed like the latest example of a traditionally black style or feature being positioned as a "new" trend, typically on or credited to white people.

Bantu knots are said to have originated centuries ago with the Zulu tribes in southern Africa. They're styled by sectioning the hair into parts all over the head, then twisting those individual sections until they form mini knots. They can be worn as is or unraveled into loose curls or waves, and we've seen the style crop up in recent decades on black celebs such as Scary Spice, Lauryn Hill and Rihanna. It's also the signature hairdo for "Orange Is the New Black" character Crazy Eyes, played by black actress Uzo Aduba.

When the hairstyle hit runways last year, Redken's global creative director Guido Palau, who was the lead hairstylist at the Marc Jacobs show, told The Huffington Post that the show's hairstyling was inspired by Björk. On Wednesday, in response to a HuffPost question about the Mane Addicts controversy, Palau responded that the "look is a continuation of last season with that very girly, punky vibe. It's kind of the same girl, but she’s going to a rave now."

We all recall Björk wearing a similar style in the 1990s to go with her grunge fashion. But as the countless individuals who've taken to Twitter and Instagram point out, these "mini buns" are Bantu knots, and failing to mention that fact has left many people understandably upset.

Mane Addicts' editorial director, Justine Marjan, authored the tutorial. She did not respond to a request for comment from HuffPost, but earlier appeared to comment on an Instagram post critical of the piece, saying that she "[has] nothing against African culture" and wants to do a post on Bantu knots soon.

bantu knots hairstyle debate

To prove that this style is deeply rooted in the black community, many women took to social media to show off their Bantu knots, some using the hashtag #Itaughtmarcjacobs. Check a few of them out below, along with other photos of women sporting Bantu knots.

Crime Drops After English Resort Bans Mankinis

LONDON (AP) — It was one small ban for mankinis, one giant step for an English seaside resort town.

Officials in Newquay say crime has fallen since they cracked down on stag parties with revelers wearing the revealing one-piece garments.

The town in southwest England is a haven for surfers and also attracts large numbers of young partygoers.

After two teenagers fell from cliffs to their deaths in 2009, residents protested about the excessive partying.

Police clamped down on anti-social behavior, including public drunkenness and the wearing of "inappropriate clothing," including the sling-style men's swimsuits made notorious by comic character Borat, which one senior police officer called "revolting."

Police said Thursday that reported cases of anti-social behavior had nearly halved since 2009-2010, and crime fell from 1,823 incidents in 2012-2013 to 1,624 incidents in 2014-2015.

Police Inspector Dave Meredith said the town had seen "a miraculous improvement."

Newquay mayor David Sleeman said the town was unrecognizable from a few years ago, when "you couldn't walk the streets on a Saturday without seeing someone wearing a mankini or what have you."

"But now they're not allowed in Newquay. The police will tell them to go home and get changed if they see them wearing one, and the guest houses and campsites are pretty good at warning their guests about what's acceptable.

"I think we have turned the corner here."

Meet The Lovable Couple Who Got Married And Went Viral On The Same Day

A day before their wedding, an emotional video of Kristie Scherrer and Tavis Doucette aging 70 years in six minutes (thanks to makeup and prosthetics) hit the Internet. The collaboration between YouTube channels Cut Video and Field Day quickly became a viral sensation with more than 14 million views.

via Tribune Media

"We realized it was released when we were on our way to our rehearsal," Scherrer told The Huffington Post. "When we got to the dinner, we told a few of our friends who knew about it that it released and they all admitted that they had seen it. By then the local news had even picked it up. At the wedding everyone had seen it but us. We really wanted to watch it together and there was no time the day of the wedding."

So 12 hours after their big day, the newlyweds watched the video for the first time at a screening with family and friends. A crew from Field Day was there to capture their tender reactions.

“Like [Kristie] said in the film, we couldn’t be more sure of the person that we’re with," a misty-eyed Doucette says after viewing the finished product.

Although you don't get to see or hear much from the couple's family in the reaction video, Scherrer told HuffPost that their entire family was "deeply moved" by it.

"We don't live anywhere close to our family and never have as a couple, so I think it showed them a more intimate side of our relationship than they are used to seeing when we visit," she said. "They laughed and cried and were really proud of us."

The adorable couple first met at a cafe on their second day of school at Wagner College back in 2006. They were introduced by a mutual friend and stayed close friends until their senior year, when their friendship blossomed into something more serious.

The couple moved from New York City to Los Angeles last year. Scherrer is an account executive at a marketing firm and Doucette is an actor.

"Which means I am a very experienced bar tender," he joked.

Doucette and Scherrer said that neither of them anticipated the massive and overwhelmingly positive reception to the original video, but feel honored to have been part of the experience.

"Tavis asked if I cared if he submitted us for it and I said sure," she said. "We went to the audition during my lunch hour and I really didn't think anything of it. Then we got cast and started to learn more about the project and who was behind it. The director told us we could 'expect some people to see it.' But this kind of reaction, the responses and messages we have received, it's been incredible."

'Hocus Pocus' Stage Show Is Going To Put A Spell On You At Disney World

After 22 years, "Hocus Pocus" is getting resurrected and this time around a virgin didn't even have to light the black flame candle to bring the Sanderson sisters back.

On Thursday, Walt Disney Parks announced that Winifred, Mary and Sarah Sanderson will return to the world of the living in the "Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular." The live stage show will run during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party held on select nights at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom Park in Orlando, Florida from Sept. 15 to Nov. 1.

And because Disney is suddenly bringing "Hocus Pocus" to the stage, naturally it makes us wonder if there is a sequel in store for the beloved 1993 film, which starred Bette Middler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters.

While Disney hasn't said anything about a sequel, during a Reddit AMA last year, Middler revealed she was totally down reprise her role as Winifred and cast another spell on audiences.

"You have to go to send in your cards to the Walt Disney company," she said. "The ball's in their court."

Mariah Carey Slams 'American Idol' As 'Fake,' Calls It The 'Worst Experience' Of Her Life

Mariah Carey isn't the kind of person who worries about burning bridges, clearly.

On Thursday, the singer told us all how she really feels about "American Idol" during an interview on the "Kyle and Jackie O” radio show in Australia -- and she didn't hold back. Carey was a judge for a single season back in 2013 along with Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, and she made it clear she has no intention of returning to the show for its final season.

"Hell no! Absolutely not! That was the worst experience of my life," she told the radio show hosts, before alluding to an apparently show-manufactured feud between herself and Minaj.

“I’m not going to get into what it was. Let’s just say, I don’t think they had any interest in us having a good experience through that show. Pitting two females against each other wasn’t cool," Carey explained. “It should have been about the contestants instead of about some non-existent feud that turned into even more ridiculousness."

The "Infinity" singer also took issue with the show dubbing it "so boring and so fake."

"You have to make up things to say about people," she said. "Half the time the performances are good. You'd just be like, 'It was good!'"

Of course, this isn't the first time Carey has talked about her hellish experience with "American Idol." After coming off the show in 2013 she told Hot 97's Angie Martinez, "It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan."

Never change, Mariah Carey. Never change.

Bruce Springsteen Performs Two Songs With The Who At Pete Townshend Tribute

NEW YORK (AP) — Bruce Springsteen called Pete Townshend "the greatest rhythm guitarist of all-time," told a story about attending his first Who concert as a pimply-faced teenager and joined Townshend and surprise guest Roger Daltrey onstage for a rocking set.

The rock icons attended the MusiCares MAP Fund benefit Thursday night in New York City, where Townshend and longtime Who manager Bill Curbishley were honored for their charitable efforts.

Springsteen, Daltrey and Townshend joined forces for "My Generation" at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square. They closed the event with "Won't Get Fooled Again," and were joined by Billy Idol and Willie Nile, who both hit the stage for solo sets earlier in the night.

"It's gonna be good. It's gonna be bad, but good-bad," Townshend said before the finale.

Springsteen presented Townshend with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his commitment to the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.

The Boss said The Who was the first rock concert he saw in the late '60s when the English band first toured America.

"All I knew was for some reason this music and the demolishing of these perfectly fine instruments filled me with incredible joy," Springsteen said.

Springsteen said he was so inspired he imitated The Who's set as a 16-year-old in the band The Castiles when he performed in for a school dance.

"I went out and I bought a smoke bomb and I bought a strobe light and I brought them to the gig. ... At the end of the night, I lit the smoke bomb in the Catholic school basement, I turned on the strobe light and I climbed on top of my Danelectro amplifier holding a vase of flowers I'd stolen from one of the upstairs classrooms," he said.

"As the nuns looked on with horror, I reached up and smashed them onto the dance floor."

Springsteen earned a rousing applause from the crowd, but he also got serious in his near eight-minute speech.

"Pete, I'm here to say, 'Congratulations, well deserved.' And thanks, not just for 'Who's Next' or 'Who Are You,' but for who I am," he said.

Townshend, who turned 70 this month, told the crowd about smoking weed as an art student, tripping on LSD and turning to alcohol after using drugs.

"I was doing like three bottles of brandy a day ... and I think I don't look too bad for someone that drank cognac for 15 years," he said to laughs from the audience.

"But the secret for me to be able to do this tour with The Who, this 50th anniversary tour, and still kind of put on a reasonable show ... has been (because of) the 30 years I've been clean," he added to loud cheers.

The night was a mix of laughable moments from the rock stars to high volume performances. Joan Jett rocked out in her signature black ensemble and Nile was energetic on the guitar. Daltrey was excited onstage and enticed the crowd with his signature windmill effect with the microphone. Idol matched his energy: He danced, waved his tongue and stuck half of his microphone down his pants while he clapped as the band began playing "Who Are You," which earned Idol a standing ovation.

Elton John, Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood, Roger Waters and Joe Walsh appeared in videos and offered kind words to Townshend and Curbishley. And Daltrey, 71, surprised the crowd when he jumped onstage after Curbishley accepted the From the Heart Award.

"It's not easy to find an honest manager in this business," Daltrey said to laughs, "especially in our period. Some of the artists will tell you."

Curbishley said he was grateful that The Who has performed at benefit events like "12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief" and "The Concert for New York City" in response to the Sept. 11 attacks.

"I'm a firm, firm believer in second chances, and third chances for that matter. ...I had a bit of a rocky start in my early life, and then I had a second chance. Music gave me that second chance," he said.

Thursday's event marked the 11th annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert. The organization raised $26,000 in 1992, but raised more than $37 million last year.

A 1962 guitar that Townshend bought from Daltrey was auctioned for $41,000; both performers autographed it.

Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar And Selma Blair Had The Best 'Cruel Intentions' Reunion

"Do you think I relish the fact that I have to act like Mary Sunshine 24/7 so I can be considered a lady? I'm the Marcia fucking Brady of the Upper East Side and sometimes I want to kill myself. So there's your psychoanalysis, Dr. Freud."

That's some dialogue from "Cruel Intentions," which is one of the best movies of 1999 (if you disagree you clearly were not in eighth grade the same year it was released).

Sixteen years later, the film's stars Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair just had a mini reunion and an epic girls' night out.

And what do the three stars of such a fine piece of cinema do on a night out together? Well, they took in the a showing of "The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions," which is pretty much the best thing ever. Gellar actually already saw the play back in April, but we're guessing the meta experience was even better the second time around with Witherspoon and Blair by her side (and they were there celebrating film director's Roger Kumble's birthday).

And this isn't the only reunion Gellar has had lately. Over the weekend, the actress reunited with her former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" co-star Alyson Hannigan, to celebrate Hannigan’s daughter's birthday.

Don't let your bling bling become blah blah.

Although we're super vigilant when it comes to washing clothes, shoes and bags, our jewelry is often an afterthought. And let's face it, these are the accessories we usually keep on all day, every day. Gross!

But before you pull out your hair out thinking about all the fancy jewelry cleaners you have to go buy, we're here to let you know that most of your baubles can be cleaned with items found in your kitchen. Seriously.

Believe it or not, ketchup, beer and vodka are just a few of the surprising items that will bring back the shine to your favorite jewels. Check out the GIFs below for a full tutorial, and let us know in the comments section if you gave these tricks a try.

Ketchup will polish your tarnished silver.
This beloved food condiment isn't just for burgers and fries -- your lackluster silver (jewelry or beyond) can be completely transformed. Simply submerge the item in a bowl of ketchup and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. (Don't leave it in too long, or the acid from the tomatoes and vinegar could cause damage.) Then remove the jewelry and use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the paste around before rinsing it off with warm water. Dry it off and put it on!

Beer brings back the shine to solid gold.
Pour a little brewski on a clean cloth and gently rub some life back into your gold. There are just a few things you need to keep in mind: Make sure that your jewelry is solid gold or gold plated without any gemstones, and don't use dark ale -- any other brew will do.

Vodka makes your diamonds dazzle.
While our favorite thing to do with vodka is sip it, it's nice to know that one of our favorite beverages can also bring a sheen back to hard stones like diamonds or crystal rhinestones. Simply pour some vodka on a clean cloth and thoroughly wipe the jewelry. You can also swish the accessories around in a glass of vodka and then wipe them down if the pieces are particularly dirty. Bonus: Vodka will shine up your spectacles, too. Woot!

Seltzer water gets your gemstones gorgeous.
Time to give your precious and semi-precious gemstone baubles a bath in club soda. Soak the jewels in glass of the fizzy liquid overnight, wipe them dry and voilá!

Window cleaner safely wipes away the grime.
Liberally spray Windex or another window cleaning solution on a piece of any metal jewelry or items with hard gemstones, such as diamonds or rubies. Then scrub off the grit and grime with an old toothbrush. Finally, wipe off the jewelry with a clean cloth.

Toothpaste is the ultimate all-purpose jewelry cleaner.
Surprisingly, toothpaste can be used on spiffy up pretty much anything in your jewelry box, except pieces with pearls. Place a bit of paste on an old toothbrush and scrub away at your dull pieces of silver, gold or gemstone jewels. Dip a clean cloth in warm water and completely wipe away the paste.
