Take a look at any one of Beyonce‘s music videos circa 2008, from “Single Ladies” to “Get Me Bodied,” and chances are, you’ll see Ashley Everett’s red tresses bouncing in the background. Since 2007, Ashley has served as King Bey’s lead dancer and is a part of the artistic visions behind some of Beyonce’s biggest career highlights to date–performing at The Super Bowl last year, embarking on The Mrs. Carter World Tour, and of course, creating music videos for the “Beyonce“ album. Ashley still can’t believe she’s worked with her since the age of 17. She wooed choreographer Frank Gatson with her moves and decided to forgo alum-status from The Julliard School to stay on the 2007 “The Beyonce Experience” tour. But, considering the doors that have opened for her to dance with the likes of Ciara, Robin Thicke and Usher, we don’t think she has any regrets.

When a friend gets engaged you have to be happy for them -- whether you think it's a good match or not. But how do you do it without lying? SNL's newest funny woman, Sasheer Zamata, and the folks at UCB Comedy have the answer.

The hysterical parody tell us how to politely react to a friend's ill-advised engagement in seven easy mix-and-match steps. From stalling with excitement to randomly blurting out movie titles, this guide will definitely come in handy the next time you find yourself in such a predicament.

Our favorite tip is definitely to make nonsensical sounds and gestures until the subject changes. She won't be able to talk over you if you're louder than her, right?

This Grandmother Started A Fashion Line For People With Down Syndrome

"I can't believe I'm making a difference," Karen Bowersox says, "all with a pair of jeans."

The 65-year-old is the founder of Downs Designs, a company that makes clothing for people with Down syndrome.

"When [people with Down syndrome] are forced to wear clothes from everyday stores, the clothing makes them look different. All you see is the Down syndrome," Bowersox told The Huffington Post. "When they wear our pants and they fit and they look and feel more comfortable, they can be confident in themselves. You don't see the Down syndrome anymore."

Bowersox's granddaughter, Maggie, inspired the endeavor back in 2010. Maggie, now 9, has Down syndrome, and it's been a challenge to find clothes that fit her, Bowersox told HuffPost.

Grandma had the solution.

little girl

After Maggie's mom first lamented to Bowersox that Maggie would trip over her too-long jeans, Bowersox tried to do some online shopping. She came up short. So the already-experienced businesswoman (she used to run her husband's medical practice in Mentor, Ohio) switched to researching designers in order to start her own company. She found Jillian Jankovsky, and Downs Designs was born.

Today, the company boasts 18 styles of jeans for men, women, teens and children. The specially made, elastic-banded pants don't have buttons or zippers so customers won't have difficulty pulling them up or down. They also offer long- and short-sleeve shirts.

3 women

little boy

Bowersox is hoping to continue to grow Downs Designs to include more styles and sizes. While her friends look to retire, she plans to keep working. She personally calls customers to review each order and said she stays at work as long as she has to because she doesn't view what she does as a job -- the payoff is too rewarding.

"I don't go to work," she said, "I go to love. Every second is pure joy."

Ashley Diana Morris, Guess Model, Feels Insecure Like The Rest Of Us

Ashley Diana Morris, the gorgeous Guess model who hails from Vancouver, reveals that she's insecure about her weight, her skin, and her breasts — much like most women — in a candid interview with a new website that showcases women in their "rawest" form.

Raw Beauty Talks features photographs and interviews with women without makeup and retouching. Vancouver creator Erin Treloar, 28, says it's a place to leave women feeling "inspired and connected and whole."

Morris said she decided to participate in the project "because I think it is a fantastic cause and it is so scary the world we live in today and the pressure put on women… It makes me really sad."

Despite modelling for the world's top labels and being named Hello! Magazine's 50 most beautiful stars last year, Morris reveals if there's one thing she could change about herself it would be her breasts, because they have made her feel "heavy" her whole life. And that's not all:

"My weight has always gone up and down my whole life. When I am heavier I feel insecure and unattractive. I have also dealt with bad skin on and off my whole life, which has made me feel insecure."

The newlywed model is also philosophical about aging:

"All the life ahead of me and the adventures and travel in store. I also wonder if once I get to a certain age I will stop worrying so much about my looks and body and just accepting and loving myself for who I am."

Student's Consent-Themed Underwear Tackles Rape Culture One Undergarment At A Time

$

Amulya Sanagavarapu is betting her line of underwear can change how people think about sex. And probably not in the way that you're thinking.

Sanagavarapu, an engineering student at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, was thrilled when she saw a "Pink Loves Consent" line of underwear from Victoria's Secret. It turned out to be a prank by the activist group FORCE, which would later hijack Playboy's annual party school ranking, also in the name of promoting consent.

Both pranks were huge viral hits. And while FORCE has acknowledged the efforts behind similarly themed garments produced last year by students at Arizona State University and the University of Oregon, the concept has yet to find traction in retail. That is, until now.

"Despite the interest it created -- and there were masses of people tweeting that they absolutely loved them -- no lingerie company started selling them," Sanagavarapu said. "That's when I decided to shed the 'If it was any good, it would've been done already' attitude and took things into my own hands."

The Canadian college student has launched a Kickstarter to generate funding for a company she's calling "Feminist Style." The first product is a line of consent-themed underwear, with 20 designs to chose from. Guys aren't left out either, with a few boxer designs included.

Follow Feminist Style's board #consentpanties on Pinterest.

"Everyone will agree that rape is bad, but a lot of people trivialize it in ways they don't even realize," Sanagavarapu said. "I want these people to see the consent panties and realize that if we lived in a society that actually understood consent, these would seem utterly ridiculous."

Strains of rape culture remain a persistent issue in both Canada and the United States. The University of British Columbia went into an uproar in September 2013 over a pro-rape chant caught on video. In the U.S., a Georgia Tech fraternity brother's email about "luring your rapebait" sparked significant controversy in October.

consent panties

However, Sanagavarapu's plan is not just to sell panties celebrating consent, she wants to use her profits to produce feminist advertising to counter the sex-driven marketing for everything from deodorant to hamburgers.

"The mission is to create social change through consumerism," Sanagavarapu explained.

As of Friday afternoon, she had raised more than $1,900 toward her $150,000 goal.

Snoop Dogg Visited By Firefighters After He Sets Off Smoke Alarm In Australian Hotel

It's no secret that Snoop Dogg smokes a lot of weed. Like, a lot of weed:

It seems that Snoop smokes so much, in fact, that when he lit up in his Australian hotel room on Thursday night, enough smoke was created that firefighters rushed to investigate.

According to TMZ, police say "smoke from an unidentified source" triggered a fire alarm around 10 a.m., and firefighters who happened to be at the hotel rushed up to the room to investigate. They quickly discovered there was smoke but no fire. (Officials did not confirm if it was weed was involved.)

After it was established that there was no fire in the room, the rapper snapped some photos with the firefighters, which he posted to his Instagram account, captioned, "Fire dept Shut it down !!"

Caboodles Makeup Cases Are To Blame For Our Hoarding (VIDEO)

If you were a teen girl in the late '80s and early '90s, you probably had a Caboodles. We practically filled the brightly-colored makeup cases with our entire lives, which consisted of glittery nail polishes, Lip Smacker lip balms and friendship bracelets.

The vintage beauty commercial above proves that our makeup-hoarding addiction started with Caboodles. Available in cool color combinations like pink and teal or purple and red, these makeup cases were a funkier version of the ones our mothers kept on their vanity tables.

With its removable trays, locking latch and cute carrying handle, a Caboodles case was also a must-have for sleepovers. Who didn't sign their name with tiny hearts in black marker all over their case?

We're pretty sure these organizers were a part of our parents' plan to keep the house tidy. (Nice try!) However, it only made us want to spend our entire allowance on more beauty products.

A modern way to organize your makeup:

Some of our favorite things include: sarcasm, comfy clothing and an outspoken celebrity -- oh, and all three of these things combined.

Jennette McCurdy, star of Nickelodeon's "iCarly", is our new favorite person on Twitter... and maybe just in life. We first noticed her in a hilarious Funny Or Die video, which led to thorough stalking across all social media platforms. But if you haven't gotten around to scrolling through her Twitter feed yet, we've got you covered.

Her bio? "Sorry I'm so sarcastic. I feel really bad about it." Soulmates.

Luckily, we have plenty of girl crushes on Twitter, like Anna Kendrick and Lena Dunham. Scroll down and check 'em all out.

The Fashion Crowd Has The Best Accessories Of The Week

Though Fashion month doesn't officially start until February, Paris Haute Couture Week is already going on and there is some pretty amazing street style happening -- if anyone knows how to accessorize, it's the fashion crowd.

In the past couple of days we've seen pastel bags, bright statement jewelry and drool-worthy footwear. We're definitely drawing inspiration from our favorite editors and stylists when we go out tonight!

Miroslava Duma's Louis Vuitton bag

This all black look is far from boring. Her thigh-high boots and feathered purse are making this an outfit to remember. (Okay, and maybe her sheer shirt, too).

Anna Dello Russo's Chanel boots

Though Anna's other accessories are bright and attention-grabbing, it's her cap-toe boots that are stealing our hearts. They blend into her coat seamlessly and make this one cohesive ensemble.

Sofia Guellaty's Poupée Couture bag

The senior editor of Style.com Arabia obviously knows a things or two about getting dressed, and while we adore her neutral colored ensemble, it's her bag that we want.

Elena Perminova's wedges

We love how the model paired a winter cape with summery wedges -- very unexpected. And thankfully, it was warm enough in Paris so she didn't freeze!

Olga Kurylenko's heels

T-strap heels are the perfect touch to her feminine outfit. She also picked ankle straps that are incredibly flattering, they don't cut her leg off in a bad spot.

Mirela Srna's Ek Touk necklace

The color, size and texture of this necklace sure is making a statement.

If Kristen Stewart Can Sleep In Her Makeup, Can You Do The Same?

Nothing upsets dermatologists more than these four words: I sleep in makeup.

Time and again, our derms have bemoaned our nighttime laziness, warning us that free radicals in makeup can lead to fine lines, clogged pores and aggravated acne. But Kristen Stewart is above the rules, it seems. She sat down with Into The Gloss recently and admitted, "I never take off my eyeliner or my mascara because it looks so good the next day." But really, never? "I think I’ve never really had clean eyes," she added.

Hold your gasps.

The whole smudged makeup look is kind of Kristen's thing -- and it really works for her. Plus, there seems to be a whole world of smudged eye makeup tutorials out there, so other people at the very least want to look like they've just rolled out of bed after a long evening out on the town. And hey, maybe K-Stew's precious skin is too sensitive for those harsh makeup wipes?

Either way, we're taking Kristen's sleeping-in-makeup endorsement as our free pass to do the same this weekend. Yah, we'll see how that leaves our skin come Monday...

We'd be lying if we told you that we didn't love Kate Middleton's style, but that doesn't mean we don't consider Cressida Bonas a breath of fresh, trendy air in the done-up royal world.

As Prince Harry's girlfriend, Cressie's surprised us all wearing everything from scrunchies to overalls to combat boots -- yah, home girl is with it. But when we saw her on a recent "date" with Harry at UK burger joint Byron Hamburgers sporting Nike dunks, a Herschel backpack and a fuzzy knit cap, we finally had that "aha!" moment: THIS is how a 21st century princess should dress.

And hey, if those engagement rumors are to be believed, our dream might just become a reality. Check out Cressie's laid-back, boho (and affordable!) style below. Does this look like a woman headed for Buckingham Palace to you?

Here's All You Need To Know About The State Of The Union Address

$
0
0
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama reports to Congress and the nation Tuesday on the State of the Union, an annual rite in official Washington that for one night squeezes the three branches of government underneath the same roof for the speech. Some questions and answers about the State of the Union.

___ Q: Why is the president giving the speech?

A: The Constitution requires that the president "from time to time give the Congress information on the State of the Union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient."

___

Q: Which president delivered the first address?

A: George Washington delivered the first regular "annual message" before a joint session of Congress, in New York, on Jan. 8, 1790.

___

Q: Does the State of the Union have to be a speech?

A: No. Thomas Jefferson, the third president, changed the custom with his first annual message on Dec. 8, 1801, by sending written copies to both houses of Congress to be read by clerks in the House and Senate. Jefferson wanted to simplify what he believed to be an aristocratic imitation of the British monarch's speech from the throne, which he thought was unsuitable to a republic. The practice of sending Congress written copies of the speech continued for more than a century.

___

Q: Who resumed delivering the annual message in person?

A: Woodrow Wilson, on April 8, 1913. Wilson also is widely credited with transforming the speech from a report on the activities of the executive branch into a blueprint for the president's legislative program for the coming congressional session and year.

___

Q: When did the annual message become known as the "State of the Union" address?

A: Franklin D. Roosevelt applied the constitutional phrase "State of the Union" to both the message and the event. It became the popular terminology from then on.

___

Q: How has the speech been affected by advances in communications technology?

A: Calvin Coolidge delivered the first speech broadcast on radio, in 1923. Harry Truman's address in 1947 was the first broadcast on television. George W. Bush's 2002 speech was the first made available as a live webcast on the White House website. Lyndon B. Johnson recognized the importance of the national audience when, in 1965, he shifted the hour of the speech from its traditional midafternoon start time to 9:00 p.m. to attract the largest number of TV viewers.

Obama used social media to help power his two presidential campaigns, and he'll do the same to promote his State of the Union address. Besides tweets on Twitter and photos on Instagram, Obama devotes an entire page on the White House website to the State of the Union address. People can also go to the website to watch an "enhanced" broadcast of the speech, complete with data, graphs and charts from the White House explaining the policies Obama will be talking about.

___

Q: Has the speech ever been postponed?

A: Yes. Ronald Reagan's speech in 1986 was postponed after the explosion of the Challenger space shuttle on Jan. 28 of that year.

___

Q: Is there a State of the Union speech every year?

A: There has not been. Each of the past five presidents — Reagan in 1981, George H.W. Bush in 1989, Bill Clinton in 1993, George W. Bush in 2001 and Barack Obama in 2009 — chose not to give an official State of the Union speech the year they were first inaugurated. That speech would have followed their inaugural addresses. In 2009, the White House characterized the speech Obama gave shortly after he took office that year as just an address to a joint session of Congress.

___

Q: Has the speech always been delivered in person since Wilson resumed the practice?

A: Since World War II, some presidents have skipped the in-person appearance. Truman sent his final message in print, a practice followed by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1961 and Jimmy Carter in 1981. In 1956, when Eisenhower was recovering from a heart attack he prepared a seven-minute, filmed summary of the message from his retreat in Key West, Fla., that was broadcast nationwide. Richard Nixon sent a printed message to Congress in 1973; his staff said an oral message would have come too soon after his second inaugural address.

___

Q: Have any presidents not delivered any type of State of the Union message?

A: Two, actually. William Henry Harrison, who died 32 days after his inauguration in 1841, and James A. Garfield, who was assassinated in 1881 after 199 days in office.

___

Q: Who are the people sitting with the first lady?

A: The White House invites them because they have done something that helps illustrate themes in the president's speech. Reagan established the tradition of inviting special guests in 1982, and every president since has continued it. Obama's guests last year highlighted the issues of gun control, education, immigration, jobs and the economy, health care and voting rights, all subjects mentioned in the address.

___

Q: Wasn't there something unusual about one of Clinton's speeches?

A: Clinton's address in 1999 marked the first time that a president addressed a Congress that was considering the possibility of removing him from office. Opening statements by the defense team in Clinton's impeachment trial for his affair with Monica Lewinsky were delivered hours before Clinton's address.

Joanna Krupa's Sheer Dress Might Be The Most Risqué Garment We've Ever Seen On The Red Carpet

$

And we thought Paris Hilton's panty-less gown was risque.

"Real Housewives of Miami" star Joanna Krupa attended two events Friday night (Jan. 24) in one very, very sheer dress.

Krupa showed up to the OK! Magazine pre-Grammy party at Lure Nightclub in Hollywood and the Friends 'N' Family 17th Annual Pre-Grammy Party at the Park Plaza Hotel in LA and she definitely stole the show, wearing a black and mesh floor-length number reminiscent of Jaimie Alexander's head-turning piece, only ... with more cleavage (yeah, we didn't think that was possible, either).

This isn't the first time the 34-year-old model has worn a rather see-through outfit in public. In 2012, she wore a beaded shirt sans bra to a night on the town.

Celebrities Prove Healthy Skin Is Always In On This Week's Best & Worst Beauty List (PHOTOS)

$

We spend a lot of time recreating the makeup looks worn by our favorite celebrities. But if we had to choose just one thing to have, it would be their healthy skin. (Having a Hollywood dermatologist on speed dial couldn't hurt either.)

This week, stars like Emma Roberts, Keira Knightley and Lupita Nyong'o left us absolutely speechless with their radiant skin. And we aren't ashamed to admit that we're totally envious of mommy-to-be Kerry Washington's glow.

Marvel at these healthy celebrity complexions below (plus see more statement-making beauty).

BEST: Emma Roberts

emma roberts

Roberts is channeling a young Jennifer Aniston with this new asymmetrical bob haircut. Her bold brows, lush lashes, glowy skin and pink lips round out this fresh look.

BEST: Lupita Nyong'o

lupita nyongo

The "12 Years A Slave" star lands on our best beauty list for the umpteenth time thanks to her luminous complexion, which she's accentuated this time around with a neutral smokey eye and burgundy lipstick.

BEST: Keira Knightley

keira knightley

It should be a crime to have skin this perfect. Knightley's casual updo, smoldering eyeliner (with a hint of sparkle) and bright orange lips make for our ultimate best beauty look of the week.

BEST: Kerry Washington

kerry washington

Sure, this "Scandal" star's face is contoured to perfection. But it wouldn't stand out as much if her skin tone was naturally dull. Washington's graphite smokey eye makeup and raisin lip gloss add the finishing touches.

BEST: Gemma Chan

gemma chan

The English fashion model-turned-film star's center-parted locks are super lush and shiny. And Chan's brunette hair color pops against her milky complexion and matte red lips.

WORST: Kelis

kelis

We rarely see Kelis on the red carpet, but we couldn't miss the singer-songwriter in these big curls, frosty eyeshadow, dramatic winged eyeliner and nude lip. Paired with the oversized earrings and fringe jacket, this look reminds us of a bad Diana Ross costume.

WORST: Ashley Roberts

ashley roberts

There is a lot going on with the former Pussycat Doll's hair and makeup. From the grayish-blonde slicked-back hair and wild brows to the misplaced bronzer and faded purple lipstick, we have to wonder if Ashley looked in the mirror before heading out.

WORST: Lady Gaga

lady gaga

lady gaga

Outlandish is Lady Gaga's thing, but even this look is too far out there for the pop star. Her silver braided wig looks like a mop, and those green crystals on her face are just tacky. But we do love her glossy red lips.

WORST: Claire Danes

claire danes

Danes could play a character in a remake of "The Stepford Wives" with her overdone retro hair. The 34-year-old actress' skin tone looks washed out with that icy blue eyeshadow and unflattering shade of orange lipstick.

WORST: Juliette Lewis

juliette lewis

We highly doubt Lewis was going for George Washington-esque hair, but she nailed it! The dated hairstyle and heavy makeup bring unwanted attention to the fine lines and wrinkles on her face (something every woman can relate to).

Just because they've got noble titles doesn't mean the royals of Europe can't get cozy. Between canoodling on the sidelines of polo matches and taking their first married kisses on balconies in front of hundreds of fans, princes and princesses often show their affection off so we regular folks can bask in their lovey-dovey glow.

The latest cutesy couple we've spied? Pierre Casiraghi of Monaco and his girlfriend, Beatrice Borromeo, who said a very adorable goodbye in Monte-Carlo this weekend. Pierre, son of Princess Caroline and grandson to Grace Kelly, is fourth in line to the throne in Monaco... but hey, that doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy PDA like the rest of us.

Thicke and Patton's relationship has been surrounded with some speculation after pictures emerged that seemed to reveal the singer was cheating yet again. Although the couple has not publicly addressed the rumors, they appeared happy as ever at the gala yesterday evening.
