Parents Around The World Celebrate #BumpDay With Beautiful Maternity Photos

Yesterday marked the first annual #BumpDay -- an occasion to raise awareness about maternal and infant health around the world.

What to Expect When You're Expecting author Heidi Murkoff teamed up with WhatToExpect.com, International Medical Corps, 1,000 Days, and the United Nations Foundation to establish this awareness day, she explains in a blog post about the initiative

"Big bumps, little bumps, high bumps, low bumps, pierced bumps, tattooed bumps, covered bumps, bare bumps. Bumps of every shape, size, and color -- each, like the baby inside, one of a kind," she writes, inviting anyone and everyone to post a photo of "your bump or a bump you love" on their social media accounts with the hashtag #BumpDay.

On July 22, over 49,000 Instagram users did just that. Here's a small sample of the many #BumpDay images that helped bring maternal and infant health to the forefront of the public consciousness.

Paris Hilton made a triumphant and foamy return to Ibiza.

The socialite-turned-DJ landed in Ibiza for her weekly summer residency, which runs through September, and kicked things off at Amnesia's Foam & Diamonds party Saturday. Hilton wore a bejeweled bikini for the bash and shared photos on her Instagram Wednesday.

Hilton's Saturday gig, which lasted until 7:30 am, was apparently the biggest money-maker of the season thus far, according to TMZ. She is reportedly getting paid $300,000 per show.

The One Thing Dermatologists Wish You'd Stop Doing

The difference between good and bad skin comes down to this.
By Hannah Morrill, SELF

You know to wash your face after the gym and wipe off your makeup before you go to bed at night. But did you know that avoiding magnifying mirrors and putting away your brushes can be just as important for your skin? Below are 13 complexion habits that irritate your skin -- and your dermatologist.

You're... Over-Exfoliating
"When my patients walk in with a ruddy face that looks darker than their neck, I know they're overdoing it with salicylic acids, glycolic acids, retinols, sonic cleansing systems or cleansing grains. They're all great options, but just can't use them all together, or too often. For most women, a weekly exfoliation is definitely sufficient." -- Debra Jaliman, dermatologist and author of Skin Rules

You're... Touching Your Face Too Much
"I wish my patients would just stop touching their faces! Whether they're picking acne bumps or touching by habit, fingers on the face transfer bacteria.* This increases the risk of infection, and thus worsens acne and scarring." -- Ted Lain, dermatologist, ATX Dermatology, Austin

*Phones and earbuds also harbor tons of bacteria, so you should clean them often.

You're... Popping Zits
"Popping a pimple only pushes the bacteria and inflammation deeper in the skin, meaning it will take longer to heal, and will likely leave a scar. If you have a cyst or blackhead that's really bothering you, go into your dermatologist and ask that they reduce swelling and release fluids hygienically. It costs a minimal fee and can save your skin." -- Lisa Garner, dermatologist, Garland, TX

You're... OD-ing on Anti-Agers
"Women think more is more when it comes to anti-aging products--then they come to me with red, inflamed faces. It's better to stick to simple regimens tailored to your individual skin needs, which your dermatologist can help you decide on. But in general, products like retinols and exfoliating acids should be used sparingly for best results." -- Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research, Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City

You're... Only Buying Designer
"Yes, there are some expensive skin care products that are excellent and worth the money, but there are many fabulous inexpensive options that work as well, or better, than the expensive options. Rather than paying an arm and a leg, look for powerful ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramide and retinol to appear in the top portion of the ingredient lists." -- Emmy Graber, dermatologist, Boston

You're... Using Toner
"It kills me when patients tell me they are using astringent on their skin. An alcohol-based solution strips the skin and gives people that "clean" feeling. If you have stubborn makeup that needs removing, find a gentle remover or towelette, then follow it with a pH-balanced cleanser." -- Kavita Mariwalla, dermatologist, West Islip, NY

You're... Switching Products Too Quickly
"I have women who, if they don't see results within a week, they switch immediately to try something new. In general, I give something six weeks before considering another approach, although minor changes are usually visible in two." -- Francesca Fusco, dermatologist, New York City

You're... Using Too Many Products
"I have patients bring in bags of countless products that they use on their skin everyday. Some people bring in 20 or more! More is not always better, and it can cause irritation. Instead, keep things simple. In the morning, cleanse, moisturize with sunscreen and apply makeup. And at night, cleanse, apply antioxidants, retinol and eye cream. And once a week, exfoliate." -- Emmy Graber, dermatologist, Boston

You're... Cleansing With Soap
"I'm always telling my family and patients to stop using so much soap. It's fine to use soap or body wash where you need it--underarms, groin, feet--but water alone is sufficient everywhere else. Soap pulls off your natural skin oils, which, no matter how well you moisturize, can never really be replaced." -- Paradi Mirmirani, dermatologist, Vallejo, CA

You're... Going to a MedSpa
"Laser treatments can easily go wrong and cause discoloration and even scarring. While you might see them offered at salons or spas, laser treatments should always be done by a board-certified physician, not a nurse or technician." -- Emmy Graber, dermatologist, Boston

You're... Not Wearing Sunscreen
"Wearing sunscreen every day, even when it's cloudy, even when you leave and return from work in the dark, is scientifically proven as the most effective way to preserve and attain a youthful appearance. Before spending hundreds of dollars on anti-aging products, apply broad-spectrum SPF 30--not just a makeup that has SPF--every single day, without exception. And don't forget your chest and neck." -- Steven Wang, director of dermatologic surgery and dermatology, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New Jersey

You're... Using a Magnifying Mirror
"Please, stop looking at yourself with a 5x mirror! Not only are you magnifying small imperfections that no one can see, but you might mistake normal skin structures like pores or follicles for abnormal conditions or blemishes--which can lead to mistreatment of the skin." -- Steven Wang, director of dermatologic surgery and dermatology, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New Jersey

You're... Leaving Out Your Makeup Brushes
"I'm horrified when I walk into a girlfriend's apartment and go to the restroom only to find her makeup brushes sitting on top of the toilet bowl tank, uncovered. Or even just in her bedroom! There are aerosolized particles in the air that can settle on the brushes and transfer to your skin. Please, keep brushes in covered canisters!" -- Kavita Mariwalla, dermatologist, West Islip, NY

Cindy Crawford has one good looking family!

The supermodel shared a photo on Instagram Wednesday, featuring herself alongside her husband, Rande Gerber, and their two children, Presley and Kaia. It's like one of those photos that comes in a frame -- so perfect you want to leave it in there, tricking people into thinking it's your own friends and family. (Or is that just something we do?)

Crawford, 49, and her family are currently enjoying a lakeside vacation, as evidenced by the many photos she's posted online (including one of her gorgeous look-alike daughter wearing a "Cindy Crawford" T-shirt).

Wish we were there.

Miley Cyrus Shares Yet More Naughty Photos On Instagram

Miley Cyrus' best friend Leslie would probably have something to say about this.

A day after her public display of armpit waxing, Cyrus, 22, showed off her new look in some risqué photos posted to her Instagram. The "Bangerz" singer struck a naked pose on the beach, covering up her non-Instagrammable parts with some do-it-yourself Photoshop. Describing herself as a "#turntmermaid," Cyrus also shared her mantra: "Stay fun or be lame."

The "Free the Nipple" supporter shared another snap of her topless form, this time leaning out the front seat of a car ("the norm at 10:30am"). Those concerned with Cyrus' sense of propriety needn't worry: She covered herself with two small clip-art bears.

Monogamy Is for Cheaters

$
0
0
Ashley Madison, the popular and much-maligned website for people who want to have extramarital affairs, was hacked this week. The headlines have read, "Ashley Madison Hack Could Expose 37 Million Cheaters" and "Cheaters Fear Ashley Madison Hack."

Cheaters! Cheaters! Cheaters!

Most pundits -- pick your network -- who talked about the hack did so with a slight-to-overt condescending tone, as if to say, "those adulterers deserve it." Well, those adulterers are everywhere.

Did you know that 20 percent of the entire city of Ottawa, with a population of 883,000, is registered on Ashley Madison? That's 189,810 users in Ottawa alone. Yes, the company is Canada-based, but there's got to be more than patriotism going on with those numbers.

Would you believe that 25.1 percent of Ashley Madison's 37 million users worldwide are Evangelical Christians? And another 22.75 percent are Catholic? Those are Ashley Madison's own numbers, according to their survey conducted in 2014 of 105,000 users. Apparently, there's more than one way to be born again.

New Year's Day is huge for dating site sign-ups, and Ashley Madison is no exception. On January 1, 2014, over 27,000 married Americans logged onto the site for the first time seeking an affair. That's 344 percent higher than a typical day. Thousands resolved to start the new year off with a bang.

If Ashley Madison alone has more than 37 million married people looking for affairs, imagine how many millions more are "cheating" without the use of a website.

So why -- along with the important and necessary discussions about cyber security -- aren't we also using this hack to talk about the potential downsides of monogamy?

We live in a world where, with a handful of exceptions, monogamous relationships are the ideal. Yet, millions of people cheat. Ashley Madison, with its slogan, "Life is short. Have an affair." only exists because most of us are conditioned to believe that a monogamous relationship is the only virtuous choice and that to step outside the bounds of monogamy, we must to do so clandestinely. So we lie to our partners.

Whether or not human beings are designed to be monogamous is not the point. The fact that millions upon millions of us struggle with the reality of monogamy is. Why isn't that making it into the conversation? Why aren't we talking about the causes of cheating and about the ways in which non-monogamous, rather than monogamous relationships may be a more honest and realistic choice for some couples?

So many of us exist in our relationships according to restrictive norms that were established centuries ago, norms that speak to the sanctity of relationships without considering the happiness and freedom of the individuals involved.

Should a (happily or unhappily) married person not be able to explore certain sexual desires with another partner if their spouse is unwilling to do so?

Should a married couple who are in love with but no longer sexually turned on by each other be condemned to a life without sex for the sake of monogamy?

Let's encourage couples to be open with their desires and to the experience of relationships not limited by the demands of conditioned beliefs on what is and isn't moral. Within every relationship are independent guidelines that work for the two people involved. Those guidelines should only be created by the two people involved. They need to make their own rules.

It's not that non-monogamy is a better option for all couples. But it's worth acknowledging that it is an option. Contrary to what this Ashley Madison controversy suggests, it is possible to have an extramarital affair without being deceitful.

I'm not advocating for non-monogamy; I'm advocating for honesty. Rather than push couples to be faithful, no matter what, let's encourage them to be truthful, no matter what. That way, they're not cheating themselves out of the possibility of an authentic and fulfilling relationship.

Taylor Swift Apologizes To Nicki Minaj For 'Missing The Point'

On Thursday, after Taylor Swift got her first taste of what it feels like to be on the wrong side of the Internet for half a second, the pop star apologized for starting drama with Nicki Minaj over Twitter on Tuesday

Swift thought Minaj's beef with MTV was somehow directed at her after the rapper took issue with the fact that "Anaconda" failed to garner nominations for Video of the Year and in the professional category of Best Choreography. Minaj was also unclear as to how her and Beyoncé's song, "Feeling Myself," failed to be nominated for anything.

When Minaj tweeted, "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,"  Swift seemed to think that the rapper was talking about her "Bad Blood" video, which received nominations for Video of the Year -- and happens to feature a ton of supermodels.

"@NICKIMINAJ I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.." Swift ever-so-misguidedly tweeted.

Minaj responded by retweeting a fan who wrote, "@taylorswift13 stop using 'support all girls' as an excuse to not be critical of racist media that benefits and glorifies you."

After Swift's apology, it seems like she gets that now.

Update: Swift has been forgiven.

These Sea Sapphires Can 'Disappear' Before Your Eyes, And Scientists Finally Know How

$
0
0

Sea sapphires live by a "now you see 'em, now you don't" mantra. But when they do make an appearance, they're the crown jewel of the undersea world.

The iridescent creatures -- scientifically known as Sapphirina copepods -- can appear in hues ranging from fluorescent blue, like the little guy above, to bright gold. Researchers have long wondered how the copepods pull off the Houdini act, in which they go from bright, leaf-shaped swimmers one moment before a quick turn renders them nearly invisible.

But members of Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science have finally discovered the secret: "alternating layers of hexagonal-shaped guanine crystals and cytoplasm," according to a study they published last month in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.

In layman's terms, this means the copepods have honeycomb-shaped layers of fluid-filled "crystals," which also contribute to the sheen seen on fish scales. When the sea sapphires move, the angle of light produces a colorful reflective effect, with different-sized crystal layers in different species resulting in a variety of hues.

As New Scientist notes, the sea sapphire in the video above seems to disappear when it tilts to an angle of 45 degrees away from the sun. This causes the reflected light to "slip into the ultraviolet spectrum," which is invisible to humans.

The researchers who conducted the study did not respond to a request for comment.

Another surprising find? Only males display the unusual effect -- female sea sapphires are exclusively translucent, meaning they're rarely, if ever, visible to the human eye.

“An intriguing question that still remains is whether the differences in color are genetic and each male is born with a defined color, or whether they can control the reflected color,” Lia Addadi, a co-author of the study, told New Scientist.

Wired UK notes that the application of the discovery could aid biomimicry research, including the pursuit of the elusive invisibility cloak.

Britney Spears Jumps On The Rainbow-Hair Trend With Lavender Locks

Britney Spears is the latest celebrity to jump on the rainbow hair bandwagon.

The 33-year-old icon debuted her new lavender dip-dyed locks while out and about in California on Wednesday. The mini hair makeover adds just a little pop of color to her honey blond mane.

Us Weekly shared a snap of the "Pretty Girls" singer's new look on Twitter:

This isn't the first time Brit Brit's changed things up in the hair department -- she's experimented with wigs in the past and even rocked pink and blue tips at the same time. The "Toxic" singer is one of the many celebs who've tried out the trend for themselves.

Just last week, Jenny McCarthy debuted hot pink tresses and, before her, Kelly Ripa went "superhero" blue. Then there's Nicole Richie, who's tried every color of the rainbow, and of course, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj, who've both also given candy-colored hair a whole lotta love.

Woman Dominates Body-Shamers With Brave Before-And-After Photos

$
0
0

Women's bodies are scrutinized at every shape and size. Society's skewed standards of beauty can lead women to believe they're never skinny enough, never pretty enough, never perfect enough.

Simone Pretscherer, a makeup artist from New Zealand, had enough of being told that she wasn't enough. So when she received negative feedback about her body, she decided to push back against the haters.

For the past 11 months, Pretscherer has been publicly documenting her weight loss. On the Facebook page for what she calls "Simone's Journey to Health," Pretscherer talks about her lifelong battle with her body. "I have always struggled with my weight," she writes, "and have often resorted to easy fix diets where I would loose a lot of weight but as quickly as I lost it I would gain it back."

After 8 weeks of maintaining healthier habits, Pretscherer had gastric sleeve surgery, which has enabled her to lose 188 pounds since last August. Pretscherer recently posted a before and after selfie to Instagram documenting her weight loss. And here is where the trolls felt the need to weigh in, accusing Pretscherer of faking the "after" photo.

On Instagram, Pretscherer wrote that she was "hurt" by these accusations. But she decided to knock down the haters by posting another photo -- and showing more skin. Since dramatic weight loss is often accompanied by excess skin that can usually only be removed through surgery, it's refreshing to see more women refusing to be ashamed of their bodies.

I don't no why but every single comment that called me out for being fake and a liar really bothered me far more than it should. I think it's because it took hours of crying and debating whether to share my story online and for others to see, posting the first picture online along with my weight for the world to see what the hardest thing I have ever done. Throughout my whole journey I have tried to be so honest about the whole experience and tell people it exactly as it's happened so to be called a fake hurt a lot. And then when it came to posting about my lose skin well that was equally as tough. So here we go I hope this helps all the "non believers" - my face uncovered, yes my hair and eyebrows are a different colour as I'm going back to blonde, yes I have changed my phone from Samsung to apple and have moved house so the background has changed (it has been 11 months people, things change!), my skin colour varies in every single post as I get a spray tan once a week on a Thursday and often change the depth of the colour I get depending on what event I have that weekend, yes I have lose skin and stretch marks but I don't feel the need to show them in every single photo I post online, I have shared my excess skin picture before so if you had bothered to click on my page you would have seen it and as for my ears changing in appearance?! Well I can't see that haha so who the hell knows!!! Maybe weight changes ears lol. Hope this helps :D now lost 85.7 GO ME!

Oh hell yes. Go Simone.

7 Lazy Girl Beauty Hacks

$
0
0
Some days I'm just not up for the whole makeup/hair routine but I still want to look put together and presentable when I head out the door. In an effort to cut out the fuss and become more efficient in my makeup application I have learned a few shortcuts.

These hacks just might be for you if you can relate to any of these scenarios.

1) I ran out of my liquid liner and have been too busy lazy to go out and buy a new one

When I am in between products I use an angle brush and my mascara. That's right, my mascara. I dab the brush onto my mascara wand and use it as eyeliner. This is a great trick that holds me over until I have the opportunity to buy some more liner.

My Recommendation:

CoverGirl Lashblast Mascara, Very Black 800, 0.44 Ounce Package

Sigma Beauty Small Angle - E65

2) I am not in the mood to deal with any brushes

I just want to throw on some liner and mascara and call it a day. I do however understand the importance of brightening up my face with some blush. On days like these I use a pink lipstick and dab it on my cheeks. I then rub it in to give my cheeks a pop of color that mimics blush perfectly.

My Recommendation:

NYX Round Case Lipstick Lip Cream 521 Chloe

3) It has been weeks since I have gotten my eyebrows done

When things really get out of hand I fill my brows in with a brow pencil to help better define the shape. I then use a cream concealer on my brow bone to cover any stray hairs. This is minimizes the appearance of my overdue bushy brows and holds me over until my next threading appointment.

My Recommendation:

Smashbox Brow Tech To Go, Brunette, 0.1 Ounce

4) Touching up my lipstick throughout the day feels like a total pain

After applying my lipstick in the morning I lay a thin tissue over my lips and apply translucent powder. This old trick works like a charm and I don't have to touch up during the day.

Watch this: Long Lasting Lipstick

My Recommendation:

e.l.f.Studio high definition powder translucent, 0.28 Ounce

5) I hate smelling like a perfume factory when I first apply my perfume just to have it completely disappear by the end of the night

In order to get my perfume to last all day and all night I take some chapstick and apply it to my wrists and on the side of my neck to create a sticky base for my perfume. I then spray these areas for long lasting results. With this trick I don't have to apply nearly as much in my initial application.

My Recommendation:

Any (NON-TINTED!) chapstick will do

6) I love the look of a sleek ponytail but fly aways and baby hairs are my worst enemy

Instead of using a comb or brush to smooth back fly aways, I use a clean toothbrush. The density of these thin bristles will tame a tuck away any loose hairs. I am always left with a smooth chic ponytail.

My Recommendation:

You don't need anything fancy. This is the one I use: Black Charcoal Toothbrush toothbrush by Morihata

7) I just want a quick smokey eye without all the hassle

For a quick no fuss smokey eye I use the "hashtag" trick. All I do is draw a hashtag (#) at the outer corner of my eye with a kohl eyeliner. Once I have my hashtag in place I just blend it out with a brush. This smokey eye takes me less than 1 minute an eye which is perfect for my lazy days.

My Recommendation:

Sigma Beauty Small Tapered Blending - E45

From Relaxer to All-Natural Hair

My hair journey began like that of many black women. My mother relaxed my hair for the first time when I was about seven or eight. I was a young girl growing up in Houston, TX where Just For Me kiddie perms were the norm. I thought nothing of my hair as I went through life. Aside from my first relaxer years ago, my creative and super-stylish mom played hair stylist to me and my younger sister, styling our hair in Brandy-inspired box braids. I had braids so often that I even lied and said my mom was Brandy's main stylist. Ha! But, it wasn't until college, when I had to take complete control of my hair and its taming, that I realized what it meant to keep hair healthy...and just how much time it would take.

I call this era the "Dominican blow-out mixed with a side of super straight weaves". Starting freshman year at Rutgers Univesity was both exciting and frightening. I was on my own for pretty much the first time ever. In charge of myself, finances, food and yes, my hair. All the other black girls I knew went to a nearby Dominican salon in New Brunswick. So every few weeks I ventured out for a wash, deep conditioner followed by a torturous blow out which left my ears sore. Or it'll be time for a relaxer. Now, I forgot to mention that my relationship with relaxers had always been strained. Blessed with a ridiculously tender scalp (lol), I hated relaxers with a passion. But that was what we did. Every six to eight weeks you went to the salon to get your new growth straightened. This also could leave you with scalp burns or other unfortunate side effects. I would never take it like a champ, instead I'd squirm in my seat and then beg the stylist to rinse it out. Yikes. Even with kiddie perms. My sensitive scalp just wasn't having it. And so was the process all through college. Relaxer. Deep conditioner. Blow out. Weave.

And then came Nigeria. After graduating from Rutgers, I took a trip with my mom to her birthplace of Nigeria for a six week vacation aka a time for me to reflect on my next career move. The trip turned out to be successful but by the time I returned, my hair was in disarray. The tropical temperatures wreaked havoc on my weave, leaving my real hair matted with the ends brittle. Frantic, I took out the weave only to find my hair breaking at an alarming rate. That was the day I decided to go natural before natural became the thing to do. (This was circa 2009). My big a-ha moment. I "big chopped", scissors in hand, smile on my face. At the end of the exhilarating process, my hair went from shoulder length to half an inch long. Reality checked in. What the heck was I going to do with this boyish hair cut? What products will I use to get my super thick 4c hair moisturized and soft? With so many questions and so little info, I took to Youtube and found solace in Naptural85's ultra-amazing DIY recipes, Black Onyx 77's hair care line and many, many cute looks for natural hair, just like mine.

Working in the fashion industry gave me the freedom to try different styles. I had loved turbans and headwraps since I was very young. While my natural hair grew, cute turbans became my mainstay. Silk fabric tied on top, sometimes accompanied with a pair of sick shades. This was my look, my new identity. For the next three years, I was turban queen.

And then came my first makeover. By this point, my hair had grown into a mid-sized 'fro, but I found myself bored with the new length. I needed something edgy that matched my personality. One day I walked into a salon with a picture of Grace Jones and that changed everything. With my cool new haircut, I felt brand new. My 4c curls were cut into an amazing assymetrical style. I was obsessed!

Now don't get me wrong, maintaining natural hair is hard work. It comes with a host of essential styling must haves. The LOC method (liquid/oil/cream)- which holds in moisture, co-washing to help maintain moisture, twist outs, braid outs, you name it. Sometimes it can be mind boggling. I began researching products that would help my hair. And I looked for protective styles I could use when I wanted to give my hair a break. And...finally, success!

My current regiment includes several all-natural DIY hair products that I make myself. They are easy (many taking no longer than 5 minutes) and incredibly helpful. Aside from my natural faves, I also love Motions hair pudding and Ouidad's mongongo oil. I'd been a Motions girl since childhood so that gave me some warm and fuzzy flashback moments.

In the past 5 years I have learned to love my gravity defying, thick, gorgeous 4c natural hair. It is me and I wouldn't have it any other way. It took a lot of trial and error during this journey but one thing I learned is that you should never give up on your hair. Love it, embrace it, find out what she likes. Your hair is unique and beautiful, just like you.

Mom's Side-By-Side Dog And Toddler Photos Are Pure, Adorable Fun

Mom and photographer Jesse Holland has spent the past year working on a creative project that stars her toddler daughter and their pet dog.

Titled "Handfuls Of Trouble," the project is a photo series of side-by-side pictures of 2-year-old Ella and 5-year-old French Bulldog/Boston terrier mix Charlie. In each pair of photos, the toddler and dog pose with the same props and against the same backdrops, allowing for a hilarious comparison.

Holland told The Huffington Post that she was inspired to create this project after she received an owl hat from her parents as a present for Ella last year. "It was cute on her, and I thought I would see what our dog, Charlie, looked like with it on," she said, adding. "He was NOT impressed with it, but I was on the floor laughing at his sad reaction, so I took a couple photos on my iPhone of each of them."

The next day, the mom found an old pair of glasses and again photographed both her daughter and dog wearing them. "At the time, the dog and the kid were almost the same size, so it seemed like a natural fit to keep comparing them," she said.

From there, the project snowballed. Holland consistently posts new side-by-side photos on a dedicated Tumblr, as well as her own personal Instagram, where she recently finished participating in Elle Luna's #The100DayProject (adding her own hashtag, #100DaysOfTrouble)

Taking each photo doesn't require more than a few minutes of shooting and occasionally some of additional time for preparation, Holland said. While Charlie is usually cooperative, toddler Ella sometimes "has her own agenda" about what she wants to be doing during picture-taking time -- "which is fair enough," the mom said.

"I will keep up the project as long as they are relatively the same size, or when I run out of ideas," she added. All in all, Holland hopes that other people will be entertained by the photos, but the target audience is herself and her relatives. "Mostly I have done these for my own amusement and to keep my family -- who all live in another country from me -- updated with photos of my kid."

Keep scrolling and visit Holland's Instagram, Tumblr and Facebook page to look at "Handfuls Of Trouble" and decide "who wore it best."

Rose McGowan Knows Her Sheer VMA Look Was "Punk As F"

Last month, Rose McGowan sparked a debate when she tweeted out a ridiculously sexist casting note that shed light on the sexism that continues to rule Hollywood and the mainstream media. The tweet also reminded us that Rose has been defying the status quo since she first emerged on the cultural radar in the early '90s. From the sheer dress days of the VMAs to her recent directorial debut, the short film Dawn, Rose is an inspiration--and one who still manages to inspire a Tumblr generation of teens to dress just like Amy Blue in The Doom Generation.

We could go on and on about why we love each of Rose's iconic looks, but we figured we'd let her discuss the stories behind each of these on- and off-screen outfits. Even the actress/director agrees that some of her looks were "pretty damn fabulous" and she's still not afraid to call out Hollywood execs who "made a mess" of one of her films from '01.

Find out the story behind each of Rose McGowan's looks on the Opening Ceremony website.

Whenever "pink eye" is the topic of discussion, chances are it has absolutely nothing to do with makeup. But Ashley Benson has reminded us just how flattering this hue can be when purposefully worn on the face.

The "Pretty Little Liars" star attended the New York City premiere of "Pixels" sporting pink eye makeup. The shimmering finish added warmth to her milky complexion, while the subtle winged effect made her blue eyes appear bigger.

The pink eyeshadow matched Benson's lipstick perfectly, and the look worked because she kept the rest of her makeup simple.

Get a close-up view of Ashley Benson's pink eye makeup look below, and see which other stars made our best beauty list this week.
