These Vintage Photos Of Supermodels Are So Beautiful It Hurts

0
0

Today when we think of top models, we think of the Gigi Hadids and Kendall Jenners of the world. But before these leggy ladies, there were some pretty iconic faces that paved the way.

Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss are just a few of the models who walked catwalks, starred in ad campaigns and attended glitzy parties before some today's most famous faces were even born. Of course, there are tons of iconic images of these '80s and '90s supermodels all over the pages of our favorite magazines, but there are also many amazing photos that most of us have probably never seen.

We've rounded up 15 gorgeous photos of some of our all-time favorite supermodels from back in the day. We don't know about you, but we want all of these made into posters for our apartments.

An All-Transgender Modeling Agency Is Coming To Los Angeles

Transgender supermodel Andreja Pejic may soon be getting a whole modeling agency's worth of competition.

Thailand's leading Apple Model Management announced it will open an all-transgender modeling agency in Los Angeles this summer.

Filmmaker Cecilio Asuncion, whose 2012 documentary "What's The T?" followed the lives of five transgender women, will head up the operation.

Asuncion, center, with six transgender models signed to Apple Model Management.

Our strong commitment to developing them as successful models is never about quantifying or qualifying their gender," he told The Advocate. "It's never a question of if they are women or men, it's about their passion and commitment to being the best possible models they can be."

The agency has not fully launched yet, but Asuncion, who linked up with Apple Model Management while filming "What's The T?," told the The Huffington Post he's thrilled to get to work.

"We're very excited to do work with these amazing women and men and to see the amazing talent LA has to offer. At Apple Model Management, you're a model first, and a trans person second."

Claudia, one of the models already signed with Apple Model Management.

High fashion powerhouses like Barney's New York and Vogue have recently featured transgender models, proving the industry is making an attempt to be more inclusive. But just like the fashion world's struggles with achieving widespread racial diversity, it takes more than just a few people to make an impact.

"I feel that [the fashion elite] are people who are already 'on the team,'" Tim Gunn told The Huffington Post last year after Barney's used a cast of transgender models in a campaign. "I think it could be more impactful if Target or Kmart were to do such a thing."

With a whole agency's roster to choose from, perhaps more mainstream brands will hop on board.

Luke Bryan Says Confederate Flag Has Become A 'Symbol Of Racism'

Country singer Luke Bryan already has three No. 1 albums under his belt as he prepares to release his fifth record, "Kill the Lights," on Aug. 7.

With his newest album due out so soon, the 39-year-old sat down with Billboard magazine, where he opened up about everything from his success ("I always say, if I ever get to 25 No. 1s, I'd try to do all 25" at a concert, he said) to the Confederate flag to raising his sister's kids.

Bryan, who grew up up in rural Leesburg, Georgia, is "uniquely placed," according to Billboard, to weigh in with his thoughts on the Confederate flag, which has become a contentious issue once again after nine people were killed in a racially motivated shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, this past June.

"We're sitting here on the day the Supreme Court ruled on gay marriages. Where I grew up, I never understood the Confederate flag to be a negative thing. But if the Ku Klux Klan is going to walk around and turn the Confederate flag into their deal ... " he said to Billboard. "It's become a symbol of racism to a majority of people. And we live in a country where we have to listen to people's opinions and work it out."

Bryan's comments follow those of other country singers including Big and Rich's John Rich, who also spoke in support of removing the flag from public spaces last month.

Meanwhile, Bryan previously opened up about raising his sister's three teenage children after his brother-in-law died this past November (the country star's sister died suddenly in 2007).  He told Billboard, "You don't want to sound like you love having them so much that you're glad it's the situation, but we're honored to be doing what we feel was the right thing,"

Kendall Jenner Shows Off Her Silly Side In New Estée Lauder Ad

Oh, Kendall Jenner. You're such a trickster.

The supermodel's newest Estée Lauder campaign rolled out on Monday, and in staying true to form of her past ads with the brand, she is the perfect blend of silly and sophisticated.

Jenner appears to be all business behind the camera, but when the photographer looks back through the shots, he is surprised to find a slew of funny faces revealed on screen.

When he eventually gets frustrated and walks away, Jenner whips out her trusty Pure Color Envy Liquid Lip Potion along with her phone for a couple of selfies, naturally.

Jenner was named the face of Estée Lauder in November last year. "It honestly feels like a dream to represent such an iconic brand," Jenner said at the time. "It is an incredible honor and quite humbling."

 Check out the video above.

Evan Ross and Ashlee Simpson's wedding photos are here, and they are simply stunning.

Almost one year after saying "I do," Ross shared a handful of snapshots from his August 2014 wedding to Simpson on Instagram Monday. In the pics, Simpson can be seen wearing a gorgeous lace ensemble for the ceremony, held at Diana Ross' estate in Greenwich, Connecticut.

"#reflections of such a beautiful wedding. Me and my amazing wife @ashleesimpsonross. At my mothers house in Greenwich Connecticut! And now I can't wait to meet my little baby girl," he wrote alongside one of the photos.

The two are expecting their first child together this summer. Simpson is already mom to son Bronx Mowgli with ex-husband Pete Wentz.

Do you go to great lengths to protect your fair skin from even the slightest hint of sun? Are you terrified of jellyfish? Do you ever think, Hey, I'd like to look like a cross between a Mexican wrestler and a bank robber?

If you answered yes to any of the above, consider the Facekini, a thing that totally exists.

Topshop Stops Ordering 'Ridiculously Shaped' Mannequins After Complaints

0
0

Topshop has responded to one woman's concerns by promising to cease orders of a certain mannequin for store displays.

Laura Kate Berry, a UK-based Topshop customer, sent an open letter to the popular chain on Facebook last week after stumbling upon a mannequin she called "ridiculously shaped."

Dear Topshop, having been paid yesterday, I decided to spoil myself by purchasing a new pair of my favourite Jamie...

Posted by Laura Kate Berry on Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Since posting, the photo has racked up over 3,000 likes and 800 shares. The response even prompted Berry to start a Change.org petition, calling upon brands to establish universal, standardized sizing in the fashion industry.

"I and many others would like to see a standardised sizing category recognised and used universally throughout the clothing industry. Leading to all retailers promoting their variety of sizes across all advertising platforms from mannequins to campaigns," she wrote on the petition page.

An initial response asking Laura to e-mail the company directly was followed by another message in the comments section. It read:

Hey Laura.

We just wanted to send you another message and say thanks for getting in touch. We think it’s important to showcase a healthy size image, from the choice of models used in campaigns, to the stories featured online and on the blog.

For some background, the mannequin you saw in store is supplied by a company that has been working with lots of different retailers for the past 30 years. This particular style is used in small number of our stores and is based on a standard UK size 10. The overall height (187cm) is taller than the average girl and the form is stylised to have more impact in store.

As the mannequins are solid fibreglass, their form needs to be of certain dimensions to allow clothing to be put on and removed easily; this is therefore not meant to be a representation of the average female body.

That said, we have taken yours and other customers’ opinions and feedback on board and going forward we are not placing any further orders on this style of mannequin. The views of our customers are extremely valuable and we apologise if we have not lived up to the levels of service that we aim to deliver.

Again, thanks for your message.

Topshop's  response is a refreshing departure from the last time a super-skinny mannequin in its stores went viral back in 2014. Back then, the brand also explained that it was not meant to represent an average woman's body, but took no further action.

The brand is hardly the only offender when it comes to causing controversy with its mannequins, but here's hoping those brands will follow Topshop's lead.

7 Things Successful People DON'T Do

0
0
How often in the past week or two have you found yourself wishing you had more time? More friends? More money? More self-esteem?

We all do it... comparing ourselves to others, or just simply comparing ourselves to our own unrealistic ideals!

So what is it about these people we are comparing ourselves to?
The people we see as "successful"?
I'll bet you can spot the following traits in nearly all of them:

(Hint: Success leaves clues...)

Here's what successful people don't do:

1. Let their past define their future.
~ As you become emotionally mature in your career and your relationships you come to see that the mistakes you made in the past don't set your parameters, and they don't prevent you from accelerating into the future. Only your beliefs do that. Successful people are able to learn from the past and incorporate those hard earned lessons with grace and ease into TODAY.

2. Gossip.
~ Successful people know that without a doubt what you give you get. If you gossip, others will gossip about you. If you put people down behind their back, someone will do the same to you. What we give, we receive. And our thoughts become things. TRUTH.

3. Say yes when they mean no.
~ Part of achieving high levels of success comes with setting healthy boundaries. It is knowing that there will be sacrifices on the way up. Our time is so very valuable and so it is critical to decline certain invitations, recognize true opportunities, and completely avoid drama.

4. Interrupt.
~ Successful people know how to listen. They seek first to understand. They make people around them feel important and seen and heard.

5. Arrive late.
~ One sure fire way to get folks to resent you and never ask you over again is to be late. It's a matter of respect.

6. Hold on to resentment, jealousy, or dislike.
~ See #2....

7. Allow fear to hold them back.
~ We all have a fear of failing. Fear of being seen as inadequate. Fear of falling, losing, speaking in public, heights, crowds, whatever. Successful people FEEL that fear, recognize it as such and continue to put one foot in front of the other in pursuit of their dream.
{ My handy formula for dealing with fear:
(fear = opposite of love = unreal = a story we made up = not real) }

Now that you have these seven traits in mind, are there any that you can start improving on in your own life today?

Bugaboo Stroller's 'Unrealistic' Ad Causes Controversy

Bugaboo ran straight into controversy by posting a photo of a bikini-clad model jogging with one of the company's strollers on Instagram.

Dutch model Ymre Stiekema is shown pushing her 2-year-old daughter for a Vogue Netherlands shoot in collaboration with Bugaboo, and the caption points out how "amazing" she looks.

On the company's Facebook page, hundreds of commenters have taken issue with the unrealistic image. "Bugaboo, we need to talk. And by we, I mean me and whoever decided this is a good way to reach your target demographic of normal, average, everyday moms who might have some soft spots on their bodies left over from housing a fetus for 10 mos [sic]," one Facebook user wrote.

"I know plenty of moms who run and none look like that, because they aren't 23 or had a 6 foot tall, naturally thin model body- before the running or before the baby. Like most advertising, this just isn't reality," another person added.

Multiple commenters echoed the sentiment that, while it's wonderful that this model is in shape, the advertisement completely missed the mark. Moms don't need any more pressure to "look amazing" than society already puts on them, and even more obviously, who runs in a bikini?

Asked whether Bugaboo was promoting an unrealistic image, the company told HuffPost: "We want to inspire moms and dads everywhere to explore the world with their families, while keeping up with an active and healthy lifestyle. Our campaign has featured parents with one thing in common: their love of running."

These Jeans Will Conceal Your Farts (Yes, Really)

Gassy guys and girls, rejoice!

Shreddies, the UK-based company that brought you fart-filtering underwear, has expanded to include jeans and pajamas, too.

Using the same Filtrex technology featured in its flatulence-free underwear, Shreddie's jeans and pajamas were made with the same comfort and style in mind, as well.

A press release from the brand reassures both current and new customers that they can wear its new products in any which way they please. "You can wear your Shreddies Jeans and Pyjamas with your regular underwear, team them with a pair of Shreddies pants for double protection, or if you’re feeling brave, why not skip the underwear completely!? You’ll never have to worry about those moments again," it said.

The jury's out over whether or not the products muffle the sounds associated with  passed gas, but at least you can take comfort in those silent-but-deadlies being a little less deadly.

Macy Gray Wrote An Epic Love Song...To Her Vibrator

0
0

As if we needed another reason to praise the existence of sex toys, please say hello to the most epic love song ever: singer-songwriter Macy Gray's ballad of affection for her vibrator.

Yes, world, it's true. Following the recent trend of powerful women (like Nicki Minaj and Amy Schumer) talking openly about women's sexual pleasure, Gray has written a love song to B.O.B., her "Battery Operated Boyfriend." With catchy lyrics and an awesome animated music video, this might be the best thing to happen to female masturbation EVER.

Although at first, the idea of the song -- titled "B.O.B." -- might seem comical, the words Gray wrote empower female sexuality by telling the story of a woman's loving relationship with her vibrator.

"He can go all night, dark until the light, and we stop when I want to," Gray sings, highlighting a woman's ability to control her sexual pleasure while hinting at the reality that for some women, sex can be dominated by a partner's desires instead of her own.

Gray told Elle that she hopes B.O.B. "opens women up to talk about what's really real for them." She also urged women to experiment with their sexuality and get a vibrator. "You should have a Bob," Gray said. "You should have all kinds of shit. You shouldn't be so quiet."

We are women, after all. Here us roar.

Olsen Twins Possibly Toying With The Idea Of Appearing On 'Fuller House'

0
0

Did John Stamos manage to guilt trip Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen into appearing on the upcoming "Full House" reboot, aptly titled "Fuller House?"

Maybe.

Stamos first publicly called "bullshit" on the sisters after they told Women's Wear Daily they weren't in the loop regarding the new show. The discord didn't last long, however, as the actor soon tweeted he worked things out after he had a "sweet talk" with Mary-Kate -- though he was unable to convince the twins to sign on. Still, the idea of a "Full House" reunion without the original Michelle Tanner apparently left Stamos, who is also producing the series, "#heartbroken." It turns out that all of this prodding might have been enough to convince the Olsen twins to make an appearance on the series.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos offered a sliver of hope to reporters at the  Television Critics Association’s press tour on Tuesday, saying the Olsens were "teetering" on their decision to appear on the show:

"There’s a bunch of opportunity for them if they choose to. But they’re not in the current creative," Sarandos added.

Executive producer Robert L. Boyett had previously confirmed that the twins would not be appearing when he released a statement in May

As the sisters "teeter" with their decisions, the rest of the original cast of the ABC series have signed on to reprise their roles on the Netflix reboot, which will focus on Candace Cameron Bure's D.J. Tanner, who is now a widow with three kids.

Employee Sent Home After Shorts From Her Own Store Deemed 'Too Revealing,' She Says

0

A former JCPenney employee has taken to Twitter to illustrate just how hypocritical dress codes for women can be.

“Boss sent me home for wearing 'too revealing' shorts that I bought from the store I work at in the career section,” Sylva Stoel tweeted on Friday. She included a photo of herself in a pair of red shorts that hit at about mid-thigh.

“I told [my manager] that I thought it was unfair to send me home due to the fact that I had purchased the shorts from JC Penney's own career section, but he insisted that I go home and change anyways.” Stoel, 17, told The Huffington Post in an email.

Stoel said she had only worked at the store for two weeks before the incident. She told Mic that during her job orientation, her manager had never mentioned shorts, but had said denim, T-shirts and spaghetti straps were prohibited, and skirts could not be “too short.”

Stoel said she had seen co-workers show up in denim and men’s undershirts, but they weren't sent home.

She said she quit the job, and is glad her experience is starting conversations about how women are treated in the workplace.

“Unfair dress codes affect millions of women, and it’s time to speak out against them,” she said.

A JCPenney spokesperson said the company does not comment on personnel matters. HuffPost was unable to reach a representative at the store where Stoel worked.

We Tracked Down 17 Of The Most Lust-Worthy Lipstick Shades

Lipstick is arguably the most beloved item in our beauty arsenal. Few things have the power to completely transform our look in two seconds flat. Plus, there's no denying the importance of a product that was once supposedly worn by George Washington, and also used to indicate whether or not a woman was a prostitute

These days, the biggest problem we have with lipstick is figuring out which color to wear or how to stop buying so many tubes (answer to the latter: it's impossible). Thankfully, there's an endless feed of lipstick inspiration at our fingertips: Instagram.

Whether you're looking for the perfect rose-pink shade for your upcoming trip to Dubai or just feel like perking up your mood (and look) in a classic red, there is plenty to pore over on the social media platform.

With that said, in celebration of National Lipstick Day on July 29, we've rounded up some of the prettiest pouts on Instagram, showing you where you can find each eye-catching color. Muah!

How To Wear Fall's Newest Fashions While Summer's Still In Swing

While we have all spent the past few weeks rejoicing over all the summer sales, it's easy to forget why stores are getting rid of their warm-weather merchandise -- to make way for fall fashion.

Yes, turtleneck season is coming and many stores have already started putting out their fall wares. Instead of waiting until September to start your shopping (when they will probably be sold out of your size), why not get a head start now? There are tons of items on the market that you can buy now, wear for the rest of the summer and well into the cooler temps. Behold, the fall items we're most coveting and how to make them work in the August heat.

Michelle Obama’s sleeveless dresses. Hillary Clinton’s pantsuits. Laura Bush’s sleek but soft pixie cut. Our recent First Ladies have created styles to suit themselves, and inspired thousands of American women to follow suit.

They were famous (and sometimes infamous) for their lavish outfits, their quirky styles or simply for being daring and fashion-forward. And their effect on the nation was clear, from the entire houses decorated in ‘Mamie Pink,’ to the case of Frankie Cleveland and the disappearing bustle.

Thirty-four years ago, on July 29, 1981, Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer at St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

More than 600,000 people gathered in the streets, hoping to catch a glimpse of the royal bride and groom. And according to BBC, an estimated 750 million people tuned in around the world to watch the nuptials on TV.

For the occasion, the Princess of Wales donned an ivory silk taffeta gown with antique lace, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, who were relatively unknown at the time. Her now-famous wedding dress was hand-embroidered with more than 10,000 pearls and also included a 25-foot train

In spite of the seemingly fairytale romance, Princess Diana and Prince Charles endured marital troubles, separating in 1992 and eventually divorcing in 1996. A year after the split, Princess Diana was tragically killed in a car accident in Paris.

Check out some more photos from the couple's wedding day below:
