The One Pair Of Shoes You Should Never, Ever Buy. Just STOP.

$
0
0

Fashion is full of contradictions (see sleeveless turtlenecks and shearling mini skirts). And while some of these contradictions are fun and whimsical, others are annoying and confusing (see toe socks). But there is one particular fashion trend that irks us to our very core, every single time we see it: The peep-toe bootie.

First of all, what season is this shoe for? Certainly not winter (your toes would freeze) and definitely not summer (you would melt) -- maybe a balmy fall day when your toes need some ventilation? They also wouldn't be smart in the rain (your toes would get wet). These boots really only work in 60 to 65 degree Fahrenheit weather, when there are clear skies and no nip in the air. Real practical.

We're not sure how this shoe-boot hybrid has proliferated, but we do know that we alone can't put a stop to the problem -- power in numbers, people. Help end the atrocities. Whenever you see this:

Just do this:

Take This Quiz, And Find Out What You Should Wear Today

Ah, the age-old question: What should I wear today? It plagues us every morning, like clockwork. While some days the decision is a piece of cake, other days we spend way too long staring into our closets trying to figure it out. So to solve this dilemma, we created a highly scientific quiz that asks you a series of seemingly arbitrary questions, and then helps you decide what to wear.

Take two minutes and find out whether it's a blazer and brush-your-hair kind of day, or a leggings and dry shampoo kind of day.

Not Even Manolo Blahnik Has Walked A Mile In His Shoes

"I want to let you know that I'm getting married. To myself. And I'm registered at Manolo Blahnik," said Carrie Bradshaw, the resident shoe fanatic among the "Sex and the City" characters.

Bradshaw, the fine footwear devotee who helped Manolo Blahnik become a household name, spent six seasons (and lots of cash) admiring the artfully crafted shoes. (She was proposed to with one, for goodness sake!)

So when we had a chance to chat with the iconic designer at Saks Fifth Avenue, home to one of the largest Manolo boutiques in the world, we ran our stiletto-loving feet over there ASAP.

Clad in a lilac suit, patterned bow-tie and infectious charisma, Blahnik sat among his iconic footwear while signing copies of his new book "Fleeting Gestures and Obsessions." The designer chatted shoes, success and well, more shoes.

On what he thinks of his own designs:

"Some designs I get tired of immediately. It's like children: Some you like very much... and some you like better."

On the secret to success:

"The only thing you have to do is just work, and work hard. If you have something to really express, if you want it enough,  sooner or later you'll do it."

On the shoes every woman should own:

"Any woman should have something comfortable, usually flats. Then you have to have a pump for day and night. If you have a social life, you need flats, pumps and a high-heel pump or sandal."

On whether or not he's walked a mile in his own shoes:

"I have worn them, yes, but definitely not for a mile."

This conversation has been edited and condensed for clarity.

Hello, welcome to 2015, where we have amazing inventions like pencils, but also a harrowing obsession with nostalgia.

To fill this empty hole in all snake people's hearts, artist Leland Foster has re-imagined the cast of the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" with all the accoutrements of modern technology and high-fashion.

Take a minute to hum the theme song quietly to yourself while browsing Foster's illustrations and pretending today is the '90s.

Jaden Smith and girlfriend Sarah Snyder's relationship may be new, but they weren't shy about packing on the PDA at the Gypsy Sport show on Tuesday during New York Fashion Week.

Smith, 17, has been linked to Snyder since May when she was still known as a "mystery girl," aka not a famous person.

Little is known about the 19-year-old blonde, except that she was arrested and charged with felony Grand Larceny for allegedly stealing a $16,000 Hermes Birkin handbag from a store in Bedford, New York, this past Februrary. According to Bedford-Katonah

The couple, who were all over each other during the show, continued their public make-out session once the show was over as well.

In a clip for their new talk show, "FABLife," models Chrissy Teigen and Tyra Banks speak openly for the first time about their experiences with fertility issues and pregnancy. The Huffington Post has an exclusive preview for an upcoming episode (which airs Sept. 21).

"I can't imagine being that nosy to be like, 'So, when are the kids coming?' Because who knows what somebody's going through? Who knows if somebody's struggling to have children?" Teigen said.

She continued to discuss the troubles she's faced while trying to become pregnant and express her hatred for the question, "Are you going to have kids?"

At the end of the clip, Banks added her thoughts to the situation and became emotional while retelling her own experiences.

"I just feel like we're so hard on each other and judgemental of each other. And a woman who is divorced three times is more normal than a woman who has not been married," she said. "I'm so tired of seeing on my social media, 'Why don't you have kids?' You don't know!"

Check your local listings to find out when "FABLife" airs in your area.

Rita Ora's Latest Look Is Sheer Class

Another day, another sheer outfit for Rita Ora.

New York Fashion Week is in full swing, and Ora has been a front row fixture at some of the biggest shows. Never one to shy away from taking style risks, on Tuesday the 24-year-old stepped out to her latest show, Vera Wang, in a black, completely see-through dress.

You wouldn't normally praise a sheer outfit for its sophistication, but Ora defies that notion in the knitwear. She looks super chic and is giving us major Cher Horowitz vibes.

Ora ditched the sexy look almost immediately following the show, when Wang gifted her an outfit straight off the runway. "Vera THANK YOU for my fresh off the runway look had to change backstage ASAP style!" she posted on Instagram

The shock value of Ora showing up in a sheer outfit faded the umpteenth time she did it, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

Oh, Hey, Rachel McAdams Has An Attractive Brother Named Daniel

Celebrities, like civilians, sometimes have siblings. These siblings often tend to be attractive, since famous people tend to be above average-looking and, you know, the whole concept of genetics.

Rachel McAdams is one of those celebrities. Meet her very good-looking younger brother Daniel McAdams, a strength coach with his own company called McAdams Fitness. Daniel accompanied the 36-year-old actress to the Spotlight TIFF party at Soho House Toronto on Monday.

Daniel has been "The Notebook" star's date in the past. The siblings, who grew up in London, Ontario, also hit up the the premiere of her movie "Married Life" at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.

The actress also has a younger sister, Kayleen, who is a celebrity makeup artist.

Let's call it a timeless beauty.

As Mashable's fun parody of the "100 Years of Beauty" series shows, hamster beauty, unsurprisingly, hasn't changed much over the years -- if at all.

But it didn't need to. 'Cause hamsters are and always have been stunningly cute, especially when they're shoveling carrots into their mouths.

Joy, the model for this warm and fuzzy 60-second time-lapse, looks absolutely gorgeous in any decade, doesn't she?

The Harlem Globetrotters Get A Stylish Uniform Update

New York Fashion Week is always filled with surprises, from shocking runway shows to catwalk debuts by awe-inspiring models. Now we can add a Harlem Globetrotters show to that list.

That's right, the world famous Harlem Globetrotters basketball team, known for its showstopping ball handling skills on the court, put on its first-ever fashion show Tuesday night to celebrate the organization's 90th anniversary.

Reality television star and fashion designer Angela Simmons was tapped to created three new uniforms and a full commemorative fashion line for the legendary basketball team.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved the HarlemGlobetrotters– especially their winning track record,” Simmons said in a press release. “My goal for this collection was to reimagine the look of the legendary Globetrotters uniforms by infusing elements of the team’s rich 90-year history with New York City vibes and basketball-inspired swagger.”

And she did just that. The red, white and blue uniforms, which were modeled by three current Globetrotters at the KIA STYLE360-sponsored show, are a nod to the team's start circa 1926 -- yet updated with a dose of modern swag. Fans of the b-ball team are being asked to help the team choose which design they will wear during games by voting online.

And when it comes to the actual clothing line, Simmons created sparkly crop tops, skirts, jerseys, and body con items for all the fashion-forward Globetrotter fans. The team is hoping that both the jerseys and the fashion line will be available for purchase in the coming months. Stay tuned.

In celebration of the new clothing line and the Harlem Globetrotters' 90th birthday, here's a look back at some of the team's most stylish moments. And don't forget to let us know what you think in the comments section below.

This season, HuffPost Lifestyle will disrupt New York Fashion Week to ensure that it is an inclusive event for people of all skin tones, genders, sizes, shapes and personalities. A Look Back At The Best (And Worst) Emmys Looks Of All Time

Ah, the Emmys, one of the most fun awards shows of the year (because let's face it, TV stars know how to get down). While we love the actual awards ceremony itself, the red carpet is what gets most of our attention.

With the 67th Emmys on the horizon, the team at E! takes a look back on some of the best (and worst) Emmy red carpet moments of all time. So, who takes first prize for best dressed? We're going to call it a tie between Angelia Jolie's nude-colored gown from 1998 and Cindy Crawford's badass beret and corset look from 1992. As for worst dressed, we're still trying to block out Lena Dunham's 2013 Prada moment. Scroll to 0:55 in the clip above to see other memorable outfits from past shows.

After Dark Drama: Day-to-Night Makeup

$

We have all been there before. Stuck at work with dinner reservations only half an hour away. If you don't leave in the next ten minutes you are sure to be late.

Sometimes the makeup we rock during the day just won't cut it after the sun goes down. Luckily for us there are simple tricks to turn up our look without having to start over with our makeup application. Below are a few tips I have picked up throughout the years. Try two or three of these next time you are in a hurry and be out the door in 5 minutes or less.

Pop of Color

Swap out your daytime lipstick for a brighter or bolder color. I usually use NYX Round Case Lipstick Lip Cream 521 Chloe for the brightness of the hot pink . If I am in the mood for a more vampy look I opt for NYX Round Case Lipstick Lip Cream 503 Medusa for the perfect mix of plum and burgundy.

Focus on the Outer V

Adding a darker eye shadow color on the outer V of your lid will play up your eyes. You don't need much and you don't even have to go too dark to get an added evening effect. For these quick transitions I like to use the MAKE UP FOR EVER Eyeshadow Iridescent Brown Black 139 0.08 oz.

Line Your Lids

Grab some brown or black gel eyeliner and do a quick swipe over your lash line onto your lids. Switching over to a gel liner is a very quick and effective way to go from day to night. I recommend bobbi brown long-wear gel eyeliner black ink or Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Brown(Out) 54 MINI (.37g).

Add Mascara

If you aren't already wearing any, be sure to add mascara to both your top and bottom lashes. This will open up your eyes and add some evening drama to your look. I recommend CoverGirl Lashblast Mascara, Very Black 800, 0.44 Ounce Package.

Get Those Gleaming Cheeks

Add a bit more blush in the evening hours to adjust to the darkness of the night. For extra pop, add a sweep of gold shimmer powder over your blush. This will highlight, and catch light onto the highpoints of your cheeks, giving your face a healthy glow in the evening hours. I recommend MAC Sheertone Powder Blush Gingerly for Women, 0.21 Ounce and theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer.

Would You Rock The Same Hairstyle As Your Significant Other?

Whoever said, "What's yours is mine and what's mine is yours," probably wasn't talking about hair. But it looks like one stylist had a bit of fun pushing that boundary.

For Gypsy Sport's Spring 2016 show at New York Fashion Week, Bumble and Bumble Global Artistic Director Laurent Philippon created a series of towering topknots and poofy buns worn by both male and female models. Inspired by the fabrics, people, colors and shapes in New York City, Philippon explained that it was all "about mixing the aesthetical codes."

"Doing a guy's hair on a girl or doing a girl's hair on a guy. The mix of culture and the mix of gender is something I always stood for," said Philippon in a press release. "There's definitely a message of peace and understanding in the collection, and that's what I really love."

Philippon also used the same hair products on all models to achieve the intricate looks, including Spray de Mode to form a vertical ponytail which morphed into a tall topknot and Cityswept Finish so small ponytails could be backcombed and looped from ear to ear or from front to back similar to a mohawk.

We are in full support of giving guys and girls the same amount of treatment when it comes to hairstyling and maintenance. But, are matching hairdos with your significant other a do or don't? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section!

Naomi Campbell Posts Topless Photo To 'Free The Nipple' (NSFW)

With New York Fashion Week in full swing, it's hard to keep up with our Instagram feeds. But it seems like EVERYONE managed to see the photo Naomi Campbell posted on Tuesday evening.

The 45-year-old supermodel shared a topless photo of herself on the social media platform, with the caption "#freethenipple" and all we have to say is ... wow.

Apparently the photo is a sneak peek at her Taschen two-volume book, which is previewed in this month's Garage magazine. We're not exactly sure how long this image is going to stay up on Instagram (we know a few celebrities who have had their topless photos banned from the platform).

For those of you who don't know, "Free the Nipple" is an equality movement that aims to remove the double standard of censoring female breasts. Many notable celebrities have participated in the movement, including Cara Delevingne, Miley Cyrus and Scout Willis

Define and Create a Natural Contour With Strobing

$
0
0
Strobing is the new beauty "it" word, but what is it, really? Unbeknownst to many, strobing is not new; it has been a staple skill of makeup artists for years.

The technique of strobing is best described as an extreme highlighting process used to enhance features where light naturally hits the face. It is the application and blending of liquid, powder or cream highlighter on the brow bones, temples, inner corners of the eyes, center of the forehead, bridge of the nose, cheekbones, cupid's bow and/or chin for a luminous complexion.

Strobing is not to be confused with the highlighting that typically occurs with contouring. Contouring is creating structure to the face and using shades deeper than the skin tone to create shadows against highlighted areas. Strobing only focuses on light and when done correctly, "softly defines the high points of the face, and by contrast a natural contour appears", according to makeup artist and beauty educator Stephanie Johnson.

Unlike contouring, strobing is much easier to accomplish, but you can't use any old shimmery shade to do it. Finding the perfect strobing shade is a very important.

"Avoid selecting a highlight shade that is lighter than your skin tone,' says Johnson."People with very fair skin should focus on using opalescent or pearl highlights. Medium skin can choose shades ranging from champagne neutral to more golden highlights. Deep to dark skin looks beautiful with golden or even copper highlights."

Click through some of my strobing picks based on the above:

The Duchess Of Cambridge Looks REALLY Happy To Be Back To Work

Duchess Kate has officially made her return to work, and the only person happier about it than her fans is, well, herself.

Clad in a houndstooth Ralph Lauren dress (which as of 9 a.m. ET is still not sold out!) and that now-famous new fringe, on Thursday the duchess made her first solo public appearance since giving birth to Princess Charlotte. She visited the Anna Freud Center, which sponsors a family school and works with children and families experiencing mental health issues, a topic a close to the duchess' heart.

She spent time with children enrolled in the school, saw plans for an upcoming community center and even had some hands-on experience at the school's interactive learning stations.

Perhaps that's why she's so happy.

Really happy.

Like, ridiculously happy.

Just look at that smile!

We're happy to see you again too, and for all the work you do, duchess.

Katy Perry Channels Jessica Rabbit And Poison Ivy At Harper's Bazaar Icons Party

Katy Perry put on a red wig and managed to channel not one, but two, iconic gingers at the Harper's Bazaar Evening of Fantasy Celebrating Icons event at the Plaza Hotel in New York on Wednesday night.

The 30-year-old singer first broke out her Jessica Rabbit impression in a sparkling green gown with a thigh-high slit that would make Disney's (arguably) sexiest character proud.

Later, Perry switched gears and outfits as she performed a 30-minute set at the party, looking a lot like "Batman" villain Poison Ivy in a green strapless gown covered in leaves and butterflies.

During her set, the singer gave a shoutout to Mariah Carey for "[paving] the way for so many of us," before dedicating the song "Firework" to all the fashion assistants in the room.

"I always feel like an outcast or a black sheep because I'm no longer sample size," she told the crowd. 'This next song is a song I want you to remember when you're going about your day and you rip your pants, you have two Band-Aids fall off of the back of your heel, you're sweating, there's coffee all over your blouse. I'm talking about all the assistants here. And you feel, maybe, like a little plastic bag."

Perry later donned a pink wig and a little black dress before hitting up Le Bain and The Boom Boom Room at The Standard Hotel.

Kendall Jenner's White Gown Reveals More Than She Bargained For At Harper's Bazaar Party

Kendall Jenner was one of the busiest models at New York Fashion week, and she's not slowing down. On Wednesday, the 19-year-old slayed in a white halter dress at the Harper's Bazaar Icons bash at the Plaza Hotel.

While Jenner looked stunning, her dress proved a little too sheer when combined with the bright flash from all the cameras.

Jenner apparently followed in her younger sister Kylie's footsteps in July, when she debuted her piercing at the ESPY Awards. Later on, she made headlines when the piercing was very visible on the catwalk in particularly sheer outfits
