12 Makeup Hacks for Slackers

$

0
Why should makeup be time consuming? If you don't have time to go through a 37 step cosmetic routine, but still want to look reasonably attractive, these tips are for you. Skip the YouTube makeup routines and get a natural, radiant look with these 12 makeup hacks:

1) Hide under eye bags: Not enough sleep? No one needs to know. Highlight the crease of the bag under your eye with a shade lighter than your skin tone, then apply a darker tone between that and the eye to visually reduce the puffiness.

2) Exfoliate the lips: If you don't have much time, just focus on the lips. Apply a gloss for a shiny finish or a stain for all-day color. If you exfoliate your lips with a baby toothbrush, it helps the lipstick last longer. Choose a shade that complements your skin tone.

3) Tightline eyes: Apply your eyeliner straight in between your lashes and on the inner, upper rim. The look is more natural than lining above the lashes, but still give you a bit of definition.

4) Curl lashes: If you're not using mascara, curling your lashes can give you the same effect. Anneke la Grange, lead artist from an online makeup course, says to heat your lash curler with the hair dryer for 3-5 seconds before curling to set the lashes into place.

5) Hide blemishes: If you need to hide a blemish, instead of rubbing concealer all over it, take a thin brush and apply concealer directly (and lightly) to the blemish instead. The brush evenly distributes the concealer over the blemish.

6) Conceal mistakes: If you are applying lipstick or eyeliner on the go (it happens) and you slip up, just take a bit of concealer and blend over the mistake.

7) Moisturize without suffocating: Finding a tinted moisturizer will provide the color you need, moisturize your skin and let your skin breath better than heavy foundations.

8) Low maintenance lips: If you're not a fan of lipstick, try using a tinted lip balm. It offers muted, subtle color while keeping your lips soft.

9) Easy winged eyeliner: Winged eyeliner looks great when it's done right, but to all the women trying it freehand with an eye pencil: Use a spoon as a template by pressing the concave side against your eyelid and moving it around to create the angle of the wing.

10) Quick smoky eyes: The smoky eye isn't for beginners--it takes lots of color application and precise blending if you want to achieve a professional look. To speed things up, draw a slanted hashtag on the outer corner of your eyelid with a deeper shade of eyeshadow and blend it in with the rest of your eye makeup.

11) Dry shampoo tip: Instead of applying dry shampoo in the morning, apply it before bed. That way, it really gets worked around and creates tons of volume and absorbs extra oil.

12) French manicure time saver: Unless you have surgeon's hands, doing your own French manicure makes it look like it was done by a 3 year-old. For a perfect line every time, wrap a rubber band on your finger where you'd like the tip, and then paint only the part above with white polish. Once it has dried, remove the rubber band and clean up with a cotton swab and some nail polish remover.

Whether you woke up late or just don't like to spend a lot of time applying makeup, these tips will help you get a clean, polished look with minimal effort. What's your morning routine? Share in the comments!

Where New York's Most Fashionable People Shop

These are the vintage boutiques, bookstores, and shops where you're most likely to spot the New York Fashion Week crowd.

New York Fashion week kicks off tomorrow, which means this (already chic) city is about to get an extra dose of style. Editors, photographers, designers, bloggers, and street style stars will be seen scurrying from one show to another as quickly as their (improbably high) heels will take them, but even in a packed week of fashion shows, presentations, dinners, parties, and industry events, there's always time for a little shopping. We asked some of our favorite tastemakers where they shop when they're in town for the shows, and these are a few of their can't-miss spots.

1. THE LINE AND THE APARTMENT

If there's one thing New York's fashionable set can agree on, it's that no visit to New York is complete without a stop at The Line and The Apartment on Greene Street in SoHo. Created by twins Kate and Morgan Wendelborn and stylist Vanessa Traina, stepping into the light-filled space is a great way to leave the city behind, if only for a few moments. "There is no better escape from the streets of New York Fashion Week than The Line and The Apartment," says Traina. "You can put your feet up for a minute while shopping a beautifully curated selection of fashion and home and beauty goods. You will no doubt walk out with a new fashion week wardrobe of our classic and covetable pieces." Style star (and Condé Nast Travelercontributing editor) Sofia Sanchez de Betak agrees: "It's the most comfortable place to shop in the city," she says "It just feels like you're at home."

2. DE VERA ANTIQUES

For vintage finds and exquisite antique jewelry, head to the well-curated De Vera Antiques on Crosby Street. "Every object is chosen with an impeccable eye, and you can expect to find ancient Roman glass next to Meiji period kokeishi dolls," says brand consultant and curator Hikari Yokoyama. "The owner also makes jewelery from antique pieces like Georgian brooches, hand-cut diamonds, and Sardinian coral. Prices can be shocking," she warns, "but it is still worth a visit. And don't be shy--ask questions about the objects, you'll leave with a mini history lesson." You also might spot designer Isabel Marant, who calls De Vera "My very own cabinet de curiosités."

3. FIVESTORY

Though much of the action during New York Fashion Week takes place downtown, Fivestory, Claire Distenfeld's multi-floor shopping experience on the Upper East Side, is a guaranteed way to get the fashion-focused to venture above 14th Street. "New York has a wonderful culture of multi-brand stores where you can always discover new things," says Hikari Yokoyama "Fivestory is one of my favorites." It's also tops fashion consultant and street style star Miroslava Duma's list. "I love how elegant everything is in Fivestory and how Claire is taking chances with young, not-yet-established designers," says Duma. "Everyone should try to take time during fashion week to pop in this very inspiring store."

4. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND

For anyone looking to hit the throwback jackpot, vintage store What Goes Around Comes Around on West Broadway has the potential for major payoff. The flagship store, which opened in 1993 (and has since spun off locations in Los Angeles, East Hampton, and Kuwait City) is the best place to go to find luxe secondhand goods, from labels like Chanel, Hermes, and Comme des Garcons. "Shopping here is like a treasure hunt," says System Magazine co-founder Elizabeth von Guttman. And for those even more adventurous shoppers, here's a tip, courtesy of Hikari Yokoyama: "You can make an appointment to visit their warehouse, and they'll let you dig through the massive spread of Americana-focused treasures they have there."

5. THE STRAND BOOKSTORE

A New York institution, which famously carries "18 miles of books," Strand Book Store is a bibliophile's paradise on Broadway that has been selling new, used, and rare books since 1927. It's also an unlikely spot to recharge between shows. "I love to go there just to relax and look through old books," says Sofia Sanchez de Betak. And model/stylist Tati Cotilar puts it even more succinctly when she says: "It's the best bookstore downtown."

Why a Girl's Biggest Struggle With Beauty Will Always Be Makeup

Originally published on Unwritten by Giuliana Guarna.

Mornings and I, we just don't jive. Somewhere between snooze numbers seven and nine, I manage to role out of bed, rush to throw on a pot of coffee, and hop into the shower. If your eyelashes look anything like mine (tiny, little hairs with blonde tips), you know that there is one all important aspect of the morning routine that cannot be skipped - makeup! You might clutch to your mascara wand like it's your best friend, first starting with a solid eyelash curl and working your way to a perfectly voluminous and lengthened set of eyelashes. You might even add a carefully winged eye and a perfect pout to boot!

People in your life would be hard-pressed to ever see you without your face done up, because you live in constant fear of three phrases.

"Wow, you look really tired."

Actually, I got a solid 9 hours of sleep last night. I'll make sure that my little, stubbly eyelashes are always coated with blackest black waterproof to stop this confusion from ever happening again.

"Hmm, you look really different today."

Yes, my cheeks are indeed missing my standard Benefit Posie Tint glow. Thank you for noticing!

"Are you sick? You don't look well."

Can't a girl just have a day where they might have two papers due AND a midterm, and just maybe, sleep through their alarm and not have time to get through their standard beauty routine?

On the flip side, deciding which makeup look you want to ultimately go with can be just as fear inducing. Sometimes you just want to have a bit of fun, adding purples and greens to your eyelids, or giving that royal blue winged eyeliner a go. Heck, you might want to throw a smoky eye on, even though it's a Tuesday afternoon and you're just running errands. But, in the back of your mind, you feel that there is always going to be someone, saying SOMETHING about what you choose to put on or keep off your face.

Makeup can be used to highlight your best features, as an artistic expression, because it helps you feel comfortable in your skin, and everything in between. Whether it's being daring, or sticking to your own simple lip and liner combo that you rely on everyday, your relationship with makeup is YOURS and YOURS only.

Jennifer Lopez Rocks Bodysuit With Crazy Cutouts For iHeartRadio Music Festival

While you were probably at home enjoying some quality #NetflixAndChill time this weekend, J.Lo was commanding the attention of thousands at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.

Clad in a white bodysuit with an impressive number of cutouts, Lopez took to the stage and performed some of her biggest hits, including "Jenny from the Block."

The 46-year-old also announced that her Las Vegas show, which starts up in January 2016, will be called "All I Have."

We're going to assume she chose that name partly because it's also the title of her song with LL Cool J from 2002:

Great choice, J.Lo. This song still bangs so hard.

Ariana Grande took to Instagram Sunday night to show off a gorgeous hairstyle many of us haven't seen before.

The singer took four separate shots of her hair, which was braided on the side, captioning the photo, "peekaboo healthy curls, long time no see."

Grande has been public with her hair problems after years of dyeing it "every other week" for the Nickelodeon show "Sam & Cat." Grande has also said she wears "more fake hair than every drag queen on Earth combined" and rarely wears her hair totally down.

Last October, the singer also switched up her famous half-up, half-down hairstyle for a straight, sleek hairstyle and wowed us.

Just keep mixing it up, Ariana, and everyone will eventually forget about that pesky donut-licking scandal.

Eroticwear for Even the Shy Guys

Want to bring a sense of adventure into your bedroom? Add some eroticwear! It will give you (and your partner) a newfound sense of adventure. The best kind of eroticwear? The kind that makes you feel sexy, irresistible -- potent. And we don't mean sport-sexy or revealing underwear; no, we're talking about teasing, see-through underwear with sensual designs that are the opposite of conventional.

We at The Underwear Expert realize that not every man likes eroticwear. Not everyone wants to be overtly sexual, but that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy yourself with eroticwear!

If you're a fan of the sheer look, try out pairs by Clever, Dirt Squirrel, and Gregg Homme. These brands have full-coverage boxers with see-through elements, but are never see-through in the pouch area, so those shy guys don't have to worry at the gym!

Andrew Christian and PPÜ opt for cut-out designs; N2N has incorporated form-fitting metallic material into their Liquid Skin Short. The Ultra Suede Bikini has a metal ring on the right hip. It's subtle, yet fun and sexy.

Do any of the above eroticwear styles appeal to you? Which looks would you wear?

Denise Bidot: ‘There’s So Much Pressure As A Latin Woman To Be Perfect’

$
0
0

Denise Bidot is a known advocate for a more inclusive fashion industry, and for the second year in a row, the 29-year-old plus-size model walked the Fashion Week runways.

Ahead of her runway appearances for Chromat and Addition Elle last week, Bidot spoke intimately with The Huffington Post about her personal experience with body image growing up, how she plans to pass on her body positive mindset to her 7-year-old daughter and why she wants everyone to know there’s no wrong way to be a woman.

Take a look at the conversation with the model, of Puerto Rican and Kuwaiti descent, below:

Curves are a common beauty standard in the Latina community. Do you think there are certain body struggles that are more common among Latinas?

Totally, I think there are a lot of expectations. I did a thing for HBO Latino for "Habla Women" and one of the woman talked so much about how we’re expected to be almost this perfect woman. We have to be super sexy but we have to be super classy. We have to have our curves in all the right places and have our red lipstick on and our heels on and be the perfect mother. I think there’s so much pressure as a Latin woman to be perfect, and none of us are perfect in any which way or form.

Growing up, because my mother struggled so much with her weight, it could’ve gone one way or another. She could’ve pushed all those insecurities on me and I could’ve been miserable -- [but] I refused to be. I just knew there was something bigger. I just couldn’t understand why to me the most beautiful girl in the world couldn’t understand she was beautiful. And I remember thinking she was more beautiful the bigger she was because she was more comfortable when I would lay on her [laughs] -- which she doesn’t want to hear. But I was never ashamed of her and I felt like her being so embarrassed by her size or never feeling happy or feeling confident really helped me realize what I didn’t want to lose my life dwelling over.

And now you’re a mother. In this information age -- in which kids have more access to images that promote impossible body standards -- how do you think we can teach children to love themselves?

We’re in a different generation than when I was growing up or when my mother was growing up. I saw when the entertainment industry changed as I was growing up and how much that helped push my confidence level. I think we always think that there needs to be a conversation with kids or there needs to be a way to teach them, but I think what we’re doing on our end is so much of what is going to help them in the long run because being able to look at a billboard and see people that they relate to, to be able to see those people on TV or owning businesses -- I think that’s the conversation that is unspoken and that they’re not going to have to worry about.

How do you plan to teach that kind of body positivity to your own daughter?

I keep wanting to figure out that there is a science to how I’m going to help her feel beautiful or understand that about herself. But I think just traveling with me, going to photoshoots, hearing me talk, the way [I] feel -- kids are a direct reflection of you. I feel beautiful therefore she feels beautiful. She doesn’t see that there is a problem, she doesn’t see color.

[Kids] don’t see those types of things. Those are the things we train the brain to think. No kid wakes up and thinks "oh you’re fat" or "you’re skinny" and that there’s a problem with that. It’s whatever their parents show them or what they see on tv that helps mold the way they feel. So I think I try to keep the conversation open and keep breaking boundaries and keep pushing for diversity in all aspects of the entertainment industry because that is what kids are seeing.

Your mantra is “There’s no wrong way to be a woman” -- is that because you feel people commonly exclude other women when attempting to be inclusive to curvy women? The once popular “real women have curves” statement comes to mind, for example.

I’m so with you on that wavelength. I do a lot of media interviews and a lot of time they’re like “oh well, how can we change the way curvy women feel?” And I’m like, this this isn’t a problem just for curvy women, this is an epidemic with women where we don’t feel beautiful and we don’t understand our bodies and we’re not confident enough.

That’s why my statement is “There’s no wrong way to be a woman,” because I don’t want in any one way shape or form to make it seem as though I’m pioneering for one or the other. No, I’m here for the woman. I want every woman to feel beautiful. I want every woman to understand their power and be confident and go through life that way and be happy.

Career-wise, it’s certainly paid off to hold onto that attitude. You opened the Chromat show for Fashion Week in 2014 and it was quite a revolutionary moment. So how do you feel about the strides the industry has taken to be more inclusive?

It’s crazy because rewind to September 2014 and I couldn’t believe I was walking one show. I was opening the Chromat show and then I closed the Serena Williams show in front of Anna Wintour. I never thought runway would be my thing nor did I think plus-size modeling would be nor did I think I’d be that girl who would be at the forefront of change and walking these runways.

There’s so much I think has changed as far as Fashion Week all together. From Mercedes-Benz no longer being involved to designers really stepping up and admitting and understanding that the woman requires change. Change is something they’re willing to give now. The conversation is out there. Change is no longer something we’re waiting for. It’s just a matter of seeing how big it gets.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

John Stamos Says Ex-Wife Rebecca Romijn Stopped Him From Starring On 'Nip/Tuck'

John Stamos has returned to TV with a new sitcom and, in an interview with Details, the 52-year-old isn't holding anything back.

Stamos, whose new show "Grandfathered" premieres on Sept. 29, claimed that Ryan Murphy originally wrote "Nip/Tuck" for him, but his former wife Rebecca Romijn stopped him from taking one of the two lead roles of sex-obsessed plastic surgeons that ultimately went to Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon.

"[Murphy] wanted to do three male hookers, like 'Charlie's Angels,' who'd go in and save relationships by having sex with the husband and the wife," he told the magazine when asked if rumors that the showrunner tried to cast him as a prostitute when "Full House" wrapped were true.

Stamos added, "Maybe I was too afraid then. Ryan also wrote 'Nip/Tuck' for me, but the person with whom I was in a relationship at the time read the script and said, 'That's demeaning toward women.' I'm not with her anymore."

While Stamos doesn't mention his ex-wife by name, it's clear that he's talking about the model, to whom he was married from 1998 to 2005 -- which overlaps with the 2003 premiere of the FX series.

Stamos also opened up about the monthlong stint in rehab he completed in July, following his DUI arrest and hospitalization in June.

"You know, I've had a rough year with my mom dying, so it all came to a head, and it was a turning point. You either continue on that path -- and some of it's fun, but a lot of it's not -- or there's this other thing, this golden opportunity sitting there with all this work and all this goodwill that you have going for you," he told Details. "That's the key. I feel better than I've felt in a decade."

Cindy Crawford Talks Turning 50 And The Pressures Of Aging

$

She's been a household name -- known for her stunning looks -- since the 1990s, but Cindy Crawford says she's still no stranger to the pressures of aging.

The supermodel, who turns 50 in February, says aging is difficult when you're put under a microscope. "Having been a model now for more than 30 years and dependent on my looks for my work, seeing those changes might even be a little bit harder for me,” she told The Sunday Times in an interview to promote her new book, "Becoming," which will be released later this month. She called the pressures that are only compounded by being in the fashion industry "overwhelming."

Crawford finally spoke out about the allegedly "un-retouched" photo that was leaked earlier this year, showing the model in an unflattering light. The photo has since been revealed as a "maliciously altered" hoax.

Crawford says the incident was a lesson in self-confidence, a topic which she covers in her book.

"I mean, I’m a woman, so I’m insecure like every other woman," Crawford said in a recent interview with makeup artist Bobbi Brown for Yahoo! Beauty.

Still, she insists aging has its perks. "The buildup is way worse," Crawford told Yahoo! about the big 5-0. "Once the birthday has come and gone, you’re like, 'I’m just the same.' I feel like, our society, and especially being a model, we put such significance on those numbers.... but there’s also so much to celebrate about the journey that you’ve taken, and we’re so fortunate to be here, with our health. This is my way of embracing it and celebrating — as opposed to being afraid of the number."

From what we've seen so far, we're pretty sure she will only get better with age.

Here's The Sexy Donald Trump Costume You Never Wanted

$

This is the sexy Halloween costume to trump all sexy Halloween costumes.

Tired of being a sexy cat or a sexy Santa? Well, you're in luck. For just $69.95, you can now snag the "Donna T. Rumpshaker" costume. The company peddling the costume never outwardly says that it's a sexy Donald Trump costume... but the flowing, golden Trump-esque wig accompanied by the "Making America Great Again" hat accessorizing the outfit suggests otherwise.

This costume isn't remotely surprising. Halloween costume retailers are always looking to sex-ify pop culture. This one's particularly great because in past years, we've gotten the obscene, the offensive, and the downright terrifying, but we haven't really gotten all three of those in one costume. Until now.

We're not sure if going as sexy Donald Trump is more groan-worthy or pure genius, but we are sure boyfriends/girlfriends of the world will be inclined to put up some walls around the brave few who choose to be this sort of elephant in the room.

So, for all you aspiring Donna T. Rumpshakers out there, here's a campaign slogan ready for the taking: "Give me candy or there will be hell toupee."

Kylie Jenner is putting plastic surgery rumors to rest in a new post on her website and app.

The post, titled "My Feelings on Plastic Surgery: The Whole Truth," is accompanied by a photo of Jenner flipping off the camera. In the post, the reality star says she's "not against plastic surgery," but has yet to go under the knife other than one trip to the dentist.

And while she does acknowledge having lip fillers, Jenner says reports of breast implants are totally false.

"Truth is, as I've gotten older, I've gained 15 pounds and my body has changed; I've definitely filled out," said Jenner. "Working with some of the best makeup artists has taught me a lot of amazing tricks to making me feel more confident and I can't wait to share them with you guys. I swear there are things you can do to work on problem areas without having to think about plastic surgery."

Jenner went on to say that though she hasn't officially had plastic surgery, she isn't "someone who says 'never say never.'" We'll just have to wait for another post when/if it happens.

10 Makeup Tricks For Dark Skin That Will Transform Your Face

$

It's no surprise that people with darker skin often struggle with finding the perfect foundation match. Few makeup brands include ranges of colors that go beyond typical shades like "nude," "beige" or "sand." Individuals with olive to espresso complexions may also battle skin imperfections, including acne scars and dark under-eye circles, that aren't as easy to cover up. But that doesn't mean you can't wear makeup or have fun experimenting with different colors.

In the video above, beauty vlogger Destiny Godley shares 10 makeup tricks that every person with dark skin tones needs to know. For starters, you should always apply makeup in natural and bright lighting so you can see your most natural tone. When trying to hide dark spots or unevenness, orange concealer is your best friend. Also, stay clear of frosty highlighting powders because they tend to make darker skin look ashy. For a natural glow, use finely-milled shimmers in warmer hues.

Watch the video for all 10 of Godley's makeup tricks, and click here for the best foundations for darker complexions.

How To Get Laser Hair Removal Paid For By Insurance

Before you start salivating at the mouth, hoping this blog is gonna show you to the pearly gates of free laser hair removal, let me be real with you:

Getting insurance to pay for laser hair removal is damn near impossible.

Because the procedure is considered cosmetic and medically unnecessary, you will very likely be left with a hefty bill.

However, I've come across forums, blogs and stories of folks getting their laser hair removal covered by insurance. And they had one factor in common:

"Their excessive unwanted hair is caused by a medical condition that is effecting them physically, meaning, their daily, normal functions are compromised."

And I came across several instances of folks asking if having laser hair removal can be covered as a tax write off was possible even if it was medically allowed but still not covered by health insurance.

According to the IRS, folks (living in the U.S.) cannot write off these services (or many medical services) either if these expenses are not more than 10% of your annual income. Get more information on that on the IRS website.

So, you're still left in the hairy dust.

However, miracles do happen! Doctors who truly understand the struggle of not feeling or looking feminine are more likely to help you correct your appearance.

Now, I can guarantee you they won't help if you're lazy and just don't want to shave your legs. But they may be willing to bend the rules if you have some serious tested and proven hormonal problems.

Ultimately, getting your laser hair removal covered by insurance will depend very much on your doctor and how understanding they are with your appearance issues.

Here are some tips folks have taken to get the elusive procedure covered by insurance.

Have your doctor argue the case. Unwanted hair can be a bane for many women, especially teenage girls still trying to understand their hormones. Excessive hair can begin due to hormonal imbalance from conditions like PCOS, diabetes, weight gain, thyroid problems, or even certain types of cancers. In addition to excessive hair, these conditions could truly cause more physical problems for you that a doctor could argue much better than you. He or she could bill the right code to the insurance company and provide reasoning for their decision as oppose to you simply being sick of shaving every other day. So, if you're in good graces with your doc, ask them to fight the good fight with insurance for you. It could happen in your favor!

Visit doctors who perform laser hair removal in their offices. I've found that doctors who perform cosmetic procedures in their office are far more sympathetic of their patients' self-image issues. They may be more likely to fight your case more effectively. And even if they are unable to get your laser hair removal covered by insurance, they're more likely to offer generous discounts and payment plans for you.

Get to a doctor while you're a kid! I want to apologize to the 30+ crowd of ladies who are pulling at their chin hairs write now, cursing me over that subtitle. But it's true. If a teenage loved one is experiencing excessive body hair, a doctor would be more willing to correct the issue. Teenagers are very prone to self-esteem problems because of their looks. Mental disorders like depression and anxiety are to be expected if a doctor notices a young girl with a 5 'o clock shadow and they may be more willing to bend the insurance rules to help that kid out.

Is a necessary medication causing your excessive body hair? It's not impossible that a medication is causing the testosterone in your body to start raging. Some steroidal medications and hormonal therapies could adversely cause you to start looking like a bear cub. And if the medication is necessary, and stopping the regimen could put your health at risk, a doctor could order for the laser hair removal to be performed on you pro bono. But it's more likely he or she'll try to find an alternative medication that does not cause the adverse side effects.

If all else fails, get special financing. The first time I got laser hair removal, I was broke and still in college. But I was bound and determined not to spend another day as a hairy beast! The medical spa where I got my treatments offered special financing through CareCredit. This company is premiere in offering lines of credit for cosmetic medical procedures. Another credit company I currently use is Comenity, which offers financing on everything, but is very popular with laser hair removal companies like Premier Laser Spa. And if the interest rates or contracts of CareCredit or Comenity are not to your liking, considering opening a credit card strictly for funding and paying off your laser hair removal treatments. It would be a crying shame have flawless skin but hella debt!

Body Painter Beautifully Destroys The Damaging Labels Women Face

Using paint and powerful words, Jordan Hanz has shed light on the destructive stereotypes women face.

In a stop-motion video titled "Unattainable Woman," the YouTuber and body painter highlights the damaging labels women encounter. Hanz reveals different words painted on her body including "bitch" and "prude," as her narration discusses the stereotypes associated with them.

"If a woman shows confidence, defends herself, shows a differing opinion than what someone else may have, she's considered a bitch," she said in the video.

The 24-year-old told The Huffington Post that Amber Rose and Blac Chyna inspired her to make the video after they wore outfits featuring words like "stripper" and "slut" to the 2015 MTV VMAs. Rose explained on the red carpet that she and Chyna have been given those labels, and Hanz said she respected how they turned that negativity into a statement.

"It was so amazing to me, and it was so brave," Hanz said. "It really inspired me to kind of do my variation of it."

Hanz said the experience was more emotional than she thought it would be, especially when she wrote "asking for it" across her chest.

"Two years ago, I was a victim of sexual assault and I was made to feel that it was my fault," she told HuffPost.

Highlighting the effects of victim-blaming and slut-shaming wasn't easy for Hanz, but at the end of the video she frees herself from all of the derogatory labels by smearing them across her body and ultimately destroying them.

"Writing 'asking for it' on myself was very intense and it really hit home to me, but it was very liberating to actually smear the words and completely be taking away the words with paint and making from the words a masterpiece with paint," she said.

Through her video, Hanz hopes to encourage women to empower each other by breaking free of these labels and embracing their true selves. "If you love yourself, if you really truly love yourself and who you are, then those labels won’t matter," she told HuffPost.

But it's her closing statement in the video that sums up her fierce message best.

"F**k the box we are put into," she said. "Be who you want to be and be proud of that. We're ladylike as f**k because we choose what that is. We are women."

On Sept. 10, Amy Poehler's organization "Smart Girls" launched a campaign called #SmartGirlsAsk to generate more meaningful and important conversations on the red carpet. And that's exactly what they got during the Emmy Awards this past Sunday.

Following in the footsteps of last year's #AskHerMore campaign, Smart Girls asked Twitter users to submit questions they'd love to hear answered by actresses on the red carpet. Smart Girls attended the Emmy Awards and asked some of TV's biggest stars truly great questions about their careers, what it's like to be a woman in Hollywood and what empowers them.

Smart Girls spoke with Amy Schumer, Lea DeLaria, Danielle Brooks, Gina Rodriguez, Jimmy Fallon and even Amy Poehler herself.

The questions included "What's your favorite charity to support?" and "How did you start believing in your own work and talent?"

While all the answers were thoughtful and heartfelt, our favorite was Amy Schumer's answer to the question: "What prominent female entertainment figure would make a great late night host of a talk show?" Her five-star answer? Gloria Steinem.

Scroll below to hear some awesome questions and answers on the red carpet.

Academy Awards, take note.

Head over to Twitter to see more answers from the red carpet.

How to Get Glowing With a Non-Toxic Beauty Routine

2015-09-16-1442431029-736541-toxin_free_beauty1.JPG
By now, most of us know the importance of eating healthy, unprocessed, organic and local foods. But how about your vanity and makeup bag? Chances are, you have dozens of skincare and makeup products that are full of ingredients you can't pronounce.

Since you're not ingesting these products, you might think that you can let these just...slide. At least, I used to think that way. It was only two years ago that I became aware of the alternative to conventional skincare: natural skincare without harsh chemicals, preservatives, or endocrine disruptors. Since then, I've gradually transitioned to "green" my skincare and makeup products. Here are some reasons to consider:

1. Toxins: Conventional beauty products contain untold amounts of chemicals, which are not regulated by the FDA. This means companies can develop and use any kind of chemical without first going through approval process--it's basically, innocent until proven guilty. But many of these chemicals have already been linked to serious health issues, like these below.

-Parabens: A preservative in about 85% of beauty products out there, parabens inhibits microbial growth and increases shelf life. This is how conventional makeup can stay good on the shelf for months and years. Parabens has been shown to mimic estrogen in the body, and is linked to increased risk of breast cancer.

-Phthalates: Phthalates are a group of plasticizers that soften plastics and vinyl--but they're not just in ostensibly plastic things like toys and food wrappings. They are present in most beauty products, even in things that don't recall plastic at all, like perfumes. They are known endocrine disruptors, linked to obesity, hormonal acne, and birth defects.

Other common ingredients in conventional makeup and skincare to watch out for, include mica (adds shimmer; mostly mined by child laborers in India), formaldehyde (carcinogen; in hair dye, nail polish, deodorant), and more.

2. Cruelty-free: Most beauty brands test on animals like rabbits, beagles, mice, and more, subjecting them to years of repeated topical application or ingestion of chemicals--not at all a glamorous picture.

The great news is that it's easier and more fun than ever to choose natural alternatives to conventional beauty products. When I was using luxury skincare and makeup, I was frustrated by chronic skin problems, including hormonal acne. Since switching to chemical-free and vegan beauty products, I've experienced so much improvement with my skin--and confidence. Here's how to build up your own natural beauty regimen (all vegan-friendly and organic, too!).

2015-09-16-1442431062-8265939-toxin_free_beauty2.JPG

1. Foundation
Conventional foundation, no matter how expensive or designer, is loaded with aforementioned preservatives and plasticizers that allow them to stay on the shelf for more than a year at a time. Choose natural, mineral-based foundation instead, like Haut Cosmetics HDD Cream. It's made with Canadian glacial clay, rosehip oil, and mineral pigments, and so pure and free of preservatives that I keep mine in the fridge--yet it's highly effective and gives you a HD-ready, diffused glow.

2. Mascara
Despite the fact that it goes on one of the most sensitive areas of your body, common mascaras contain things like aluminum powder (neurotoxin), mercury, and more. Use natural mascaras instead: I use Gabriel Mascara, a lengthening and thickening formula made with botanical ingredients (first one on the list is aloe juice infused water).

3. Lipstick
Between eating and drinking, we ingest a lot of lipstick--which is typically made with the aforementioned culprits, plus metals like cadmium and lead. I use natural lipsticks and tints using botanical oils and mineral tints, like Haut Cosmetics Bio-Coco Balm. Other great brands to try are Pacifica, Marie Natie, and Gressa.

4. Cleanser
Botanical oil-based cleansers gently cleanse the skin without harsh chemicals, which is actually helpful if you have blemish-prone skin. I like Juice Beauty Organic Facial Wash, which leaves skin feeling soft and clean. Plus, the ingredients list sounds more like a fancy juice than a cleanser--think white grape juice, apple juice, aloe, sunflower and jojoba oils.

5. Mask
While cleansers are meant to be washed off the face, masks and creams are supposed to penetrate into your skin--which is why it's worth being doubly cautious about these items. Instead of creamy facial masks containing additives, I prefer all-natural masks with just clay, charcoal, and natural oils. I swear by Kaeng Raeng Detoxifying Charcoal Mask, which deep cleanses, calms, and balances your skin with clay, Himalayan salt, and gardenia oil.

6. Moisturizer
Lotions and creams contain binding or texturizing agents like dimethicone, so I've been using oils exclusively as my moisturizer for over a year, to great results. There are so many great plant oils depending on your skin type. I like trying different oils: rose hip oil is great for discoloration, jojoba is nourishing, and my secret weapon, lavender essential oil is anti-bacterial and calms inflammation. (Make sure to blend essential oil with carrier oil like argan, jojoba, or sweet almond oil to diffuse).

Detoxifying my makeup bag and bathroom counter has been one of the best decisions I've ever made--you won't regret it! What natural, organic, cruelty-free brands have you tried? Let me know if you have any questions!

Kanye Wishes The Kardashians' Reality Show Was Shot Like Kubrick

On Sunday night, the Kardashians took Armenia. Kim and Khloe's trip to the family's ancestral land was the focus of the latest episode of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

It was great to learn more about the off-brand Kardashians, i.e. their cousins Kourtni, Kara and Krista, but it was Kanye West's visit to an Armenian art school that can't be missed.

While touring the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies, West (who never misses an opportunity to tell someone he went to art school) revealed he has lofty goals for his wife's reality show.

"They’re shooting my wife’s show, and I keep on, like, asking them to shoot it like it’s Stanley Kubrick," he told one of the school's instructors.

It's no secret that West isn't a fan of how the reality show is shot. In fact, it's the reason he rarely makes an appearance on the E! series.

"I don't really do her show just because I don't particularly like the way the producers shoot some of the shots. I'm very meticulous to that, right? I'd like to get a different [director of photography] or whatever," he told New York radio station Hot 97 in 2013.  "And when we got engaged, I made sure the show was there [filming] because I felt like that was something that would make her happy. Regardless of how it was shot, I felt like this is a moment she would like to have and would like to share, and just have that documented. And we could decide later or not to air it."

Meanwhile, West's tour of the school also revealed he's pro-robot ("That's dope, I like robots") but scared of 3D printers.

"This is what I'm afraid of, right here, 3D printing. The Internet destroyed the music industry, and now this is what we're afraid of with the textile industry," he told the school's managing director. "There will come a time when people are making their shoes at home."

Duchess of Cambridge 'Overstayed' Her Visit To 'Downton Abbey' Set

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, visited the set of "Downton Abbey" last March to the delight of the cast and crew. At least, most of them.

"We all lost our minds," said actress Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) while speaking to E! News at a BAFTA-LA pre-Emmys Tea Party. "We started talking to her about the catering -- I'm sure things she found really boring but we all sort of lost it because we were panicked and star-struck. It was one of those weird ones."

Other members of the cast came off as a little less impressed, according to the article. (Looking at you, Mr. Carson!)

"She's a big fan of the show," said Jim Carter, aka Mr. Carson, to E! News. "I don't think she'd been on a film set before, or a TV set, so she was intrigued by how different it looked on the screen and in reality. She overstayed. She stayed long. She was having such a good time."

Err, we're sure you meant well, Carter. Good luck on your next visit with Duchess Kate!

Kendall Jenner Talks About That Nipple Piercing

Kendall Jenner might be a supermodel and reality TV star, but that doesn't mean she's not like other teens.

The 19-year-old opened up about her rebellious phase after her nipple piercing made headlines during New York Fashion Week.

“I was going through a period in my life, having a rough time, being a rebel and was like, ‘Let’s just do it,’” she told the New York Post. “[I was] so terrified, I’m laying on the bed like, ‘Why am I doing this?' Honestly, it hurt, but wasn’t as bad as everyone made it seem, and maybe because everyone hyped it up and I thought it would be really, really bad. Then it wasn’t as bad as I expected.”

Her piercing was visible through her white gown at Harper's Bazaar ICON event last week.
