10 Goddess Braid Hairstyles To Show Your Stylist For Inspiration

$

While scrolling through our Instagram and Pinterest feeds, we've noticed a flood of images tagged "goddess braids." At first glance, this braided hairstyle looks very similar to the cornrows we wore as teenagers. But what exactly are goddess braids?

According to SheaMoisture beauty ambassador Diane C. Bailey, goddess braids are basically large, more pronounced cornrows that lie on top of the scalp. "Usually they are styled in a crown braid, parted in the middle and go towards the back [of the head] or in a halo," she said.

Bailey believes goddess braids appeal particularly to women who are growing out chemically relaxed hair because it is an "easy, go-to style." She explained, "It's for those who want something simple and allows them to do their activities and work with their lifestyle. But [goddess braids] can still have glamour. It's classical, as well as fashionable."

Whether adding extensions or braiding with your natural locks, Bailey says "for any woman with curly, kinky or wavy-textured hair, the hair has to be kept hydrated and moist." She highly recommends using a leave-in treatment such as SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Conditioner to add suppleness to hair without weighing it down.

Considering booking a salon appointment for this gorgeous braided look? Scroll down for 10 goddess braid hairstyle ideas.

Actress Jennifer Lawrence looked gorgeous at the Berlin premiere of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" on Wednesday.

Lawrence, who played the bold Katniss Everdeen in the series, stepped out in a gorgeous plum gown that looked like it was designed by "Hunger Games" stylist, Cinna. The gown featured a plunging neckline, sleeves with slits and interesting cutouts near the shoulder.

The actress wore her blond hair in an updo, dramatic eye-shadow and statement earrings.

Lawrence neglected to wear a Mockingjay pin.

Lawrence talked about saying goodbye to her character, Katniss, after filming the last film in the "Hunger Games" series.

"I feel like I had two final endings with Katniss," Lawrence told Collider. "There was the one when we wrapped the film in Berlin, when everyone was there and I said goodbye to everyone in the movie. And then, I had a last scene, about a year later, with my nephews, which was so special."

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" hits U.S. theaters on Nov. 20.

It's no secret that the '70s are back. From the runways to the streets, fashionistas everywhere are paying homage to the decade of playful, far out style. Fashion It-Girl Sabine Ghanem Dishes on Her Personal Style and Impossibly Chic Wardrobe.

$

0
Jewelry designer Sabine G came on the scene just two years ago and has rapidly gained attention not only for her jewels, but for her flawless style and the jet-set company she keeps. Profiles by Vogue, W and Harper's Bazaar have immortalized her as a veritable fashion darling. But perhaps she is best known for her nuptials this past May to Joseph Getty which took place over the course of a weekend in Rome. Lavish parties and Liaisons Dangereux costumes headlined the festivities in advance of the wedding to which she wore a regal, showstopping Haute Couture Schiaparelli gown complete with a sun-embroidered cape, and matching shoes. Not one to shy away from drama of the sartorial kind, this fashion it-girl ups her game at every appearance.

As a jewelry lover, I am obsessed with her eponymous collection. Particularly her pink sapphire and diamond Harlequin ring [note to husband.] But I would be lying if I didn't admit to a massive case of closet envy. This girl has amazing clothes - and the social schedule to keep them off their hangers. But it's the way she pieces together an outfit - her daring and precise eye that make her style truly one of a kind.

Today, in her London apartment, she wears what she refers to as her uniform. "Nice trousers, comfortable shoes, t-shirt and a chic blazer, so you look very dressed up without having spent a half hour mixing and matching things." For her, sure. The secret ingredient here is confidence - the catalyst that propels a bright pink vintage Pucci blazer and tailored silk Celine pants into an effortless look.

Evening is another mood altogether, "Quite over the top," she quips. "Open back, lace, big shoulders. I usually wear vintage Azzaro pieces or YSL or Tom Ford with big shoulder pads, so it's quite out there. Then I pair my jewelry with it."

Her love for vintage can be credited to her style muses: Catherine Deneuve, Katherine Hepburn and Cher. "Everything that I have that's vintage, I treasure," she declares. Among her fave looks are "an Alexander McQueen long gown in black velvet with lace all over the back, YSL trousers and a bolero jacket," and she adds, "my Manolo Blahnik shoes I treasure because they're the only shoes I can walk in for more than two hours. Chanel classic pieces and a beige leather Versace blazer with zippers that was my Mom's."

When it comes to jewelry, She's a pro at piling it on. "More is more,' Sabine affirms. "I wear it on the knuckles, on the pinky I can stack two or three rings together. My Harlequin collection is playful, I wear it everyday with my jeans and t-shirt or at a wedding where I wear more for the bling effect."

And for that gorgeous emerald engagement ring from her better half? Contrary to what you might think, he actually picked it out himself. "He proposed in the Bahamas. I was very surprised! I told him, you're going to mess this up, let me design the ring. I'm glad that he told me, 'listen, you're going to have a lot of rings in your life, let this one be from me.' So, I'm very happy that he didn't ask my opinion. He chose it himself. It's an emerald from the 1920's. A classic." For a true gem.

Model And Instagram Celebrity, Hipster Barbie, Dead At 22 Weeks

$

0

Hipster Barbie, also known as Socality Barbie to her 1.3 million followers on Instagram, and inspiration for countless life goals around the world, died Wednesday. She was 22 weeks old.

After posting 136 selfies in the redwoods, at the foggy lake, with her lumbersexual boyfriend, Kent, and in a bubble bath, Socality Barbie's creator, Oregon-based photographer Darby Cisneros, posted an actual, human selfie with her famous Barbie doll, admitting that she started the character as "a way to poke fun at all the Instagram trends that I thought were ridiculous. Never in 1 million years did I think it would receive the amount of attention that it did."

Cisneros received many proposals from companies to feature their products in posts, but naturally turned them down, according to TMZ. She says she'll keep the account open for a while, but "I believe SB's work here is done."

Socality's exit is another big loss for the Instagram-model-following community; Australian model Essena O'Neill shuttered her social media accounts this week after posting behind-the-scenes admissions that it's all a ruse and life is harder than she made it look.

As for Socality Barbie, it seems she left as quickly as she appeared -- as any good hipster does.

#Neverstopexploring, Socality Barbie. Wherever you are.

How to Pick a Healthy Pup

$

Picking a dog is a huge decision. Since you'll be spending the next decade or more with him, you need as close to a perfect fit as you can get. So much has been written about the energy and temperament aspects of this decision, but the question I'm most often asked is, "What is the healthiest breed?" And my answer to that question is always the same: It isn't a breed at all but simply a 30-pound brown mutt.

Mixed breeds are generally healthier

Because of what's known as "hybrid vigor," the midsize mixed breed is, on average, the healthiest dog. Hybrid vigor derives from the idea that the more breeds in a dog's genetic mix, the less likely it is that the genetic problems of purebreds will manifest themselves. Of course, I see very healthy purebreds and very unhealthy mixes, but if you want to go with the odds, pick the mix every time.

Expensive designer breeds

Attempts to bridge the gap between purebred looks, predictability, and mutt health--and come up with something completely new--have resulted in "designer breeds." These are the Puggles, Labradoodles, Maltipoos, and the like. They're intentionally created mixes that, while not purebred, can still maintain some of the expected traits we look for in a purebred and have some of the advantages of hybrid vigor as well. These dogs, as a rule, do seem to me to be healthier than some of the pure breeds, but they can be expensive, especially when compared with a mixed breed from a rescue or a shelter.

You get the dog you need

As much as I love mutts, a mixed-breed dog isn't for everyone. I just helped my mother buy an English springer spaniel puppy. Springers tend toward a range of genetic problems, from joint disease and rage syndrome to horrible allergies, but with the right leadership they're wonderful dogs, and this was the right choice for her.

The Lazy Girl's Guide To A Classic Smoky Eye

Dark, smoky eye makeup is going to make you look either really sexy or really tired. Here's how to pull off the perfect nighttime look without looking like you've been out all night.

Sharpen your pencil. If you don't line your upper inner rims, you might as well stop right now; it's what makes a smoky eye look polished. Use a black eyeliner, like Jane Iredale Mystikol Eyeliner in Onyx, and don't put it down just yet--trace your upper and lower lashes. OK, now you're done with that part.

Smudge the liner. Soften up the black pencil by running the dense end of a brush--like one that's in the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette over the line. With the same brush, skim your lower lash line with slate-gray powder shadow, followed by a matte black (use Dagger and Black Market from the palette as well). A little bit of the gray should show under the black so it looks like you spent time blending the two shades together.

Cheat a wing. The secret to a clean smoky eye is a piece of tissue folded in half: Hold it at the outer corner of your eye, angled up. With a fluffy brush, dust that gray shadow over your lid, up just past the crease, and out to the tissue. Blend the black shadow through only the crease.

Make it shine. Dab a shimmery gray shadow (like the Smoky palette's Armor) over the center of your lid and the inner corner of your eye to give your smoky eye some depth. Finish with intense mascara, like the superdark L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Intenza.

Get creative. Use this same technique with other shades in the palette, too. We love replacing the gray with deep-purple Smolder, or doing a bronzy smoky eye with Dirtysweet and Radar (in place of gray and black, respectively).

Carrie Underwood looked gorgeous as she walked the red carpet at the 2015 CMA Awards in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday.

The new mom, who welcomed son Isaiah Michael Fisher in February, stunned in a plunging orange gown as she posed for photos. Underwood is hosting the CMAs for the eighth consecutive year with pal Brad Paisley.

Turns out the rumors were true.

Gwen Stefani's rep confirmed to Us Weekly that the singer is dating her "Voice" co-star Blake Shelton

“Gwen and Blake are longtime friends who have very recently started dating,” Stefani's spokesperson said.

Reports of their romance started flying in September after the pair exchanged plenty of flirty looks on "The Voice." Then, following their cute duet on "The Tonight Show" last week, Stefani and Shelton were spotted getting cozy over the weekend at Halloween parties in Los Angeles.

Shelton, 39, and his estranged wife Miranda Lambert announced their split in July after four years of marriage. The following month, Stefani, 46, and Gavin Rossdale split after nearly 13 years of marriage, and their divorce was settled in October. Stefani has three kids with Rossdale, sons Kingston, 9, Zuma, 7, and Apollo, 1.

Lambert is up for a few CMAs, including Entertainer of the Year (she's facing off against four men in this category), Female Vocalist of the Year and Music Video of the Year for "Little Red Wagon."

It was just confirmed that Shelton, who is nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year, is dating his fellow "Voice" coach, Gwen Stefani. But you know what? The always stunning Lambert looks over all that.

Fashion is getting real this season, perhaps as a response to last winter's grisly weather, which caused blizzard conditions across the North African desert and snow piles so high in Boston that they lasted until July. Like mothers bundling their children, designers sent out endless options for keeping us cozy, beginning with chunky knits. Sacai did deconstructed fishermen styles; Louis Vuitton, an oversize ribbed number; Isabel Marant offered thick wool takes on such classics as the Breton shirt and the peasant blouse. Farmers' Almanac has predicted a repeat performance in New York this year--so we're already stocking up. Above, Guess dress (worn as sweater); Theory pants; Altuzarra belt; the Frye Company shoes.

Classic Italian Recipes From A New Italian Restaurant

By Vanessa Pisk

In the center of Brescia, the restaurant Classico opened a few months ago in a faux-ancient building but charming in its own right, and with a lovely little courtyard (Via Callegari 2). Shaded by numerous plants, the restaurant focuses on aperitifs and snacks. The importance of cocktails is evident in the first room, with a large table and well-stocked bar, where the outstanding bartender Cristian Manassi moves confidently, preparing sophisticated drinks with a beautiful presentation. Cristian alternates classic recipes with reinterpretations and personal creations, and he also offers a wide selection of Italian craft beers. Heading the kitchen is Michele Bontempi, a young chef already known for the delicious hamburger he developed for his restaurant Dispensa in San Felice del Benaco (Piazza Municipio 10), on the Brescian shores of Lake Garda. Here sandwiches are served along with nibbles as well as other more complex dishes. Michele lavishes attention on the quality of the products, which are sophisticated but presented with an informal touch.

The Balmain x H&M Release Was Complete Chaos

File this under least shocking news of the day: The Balmain x H&M collection release was insane.

Olivier Rousteing's capsule collection hit stores around the world Thursday. Video captured in Paris -- Rousteing's home city -- shows shoppers rushing into the store and scrambling for the goods.

Police were present on London's Regent Street to keep the crowd under control, but scuffles still broke out. One person on line told the New York Times the situation was getting "dangerous" because of a group of twenty-something men.

“They get in first, buy up all the product, then flog it for five times the price on eBay,” student Ryan Fong told the Times. “They are scary men, and I don’t want to get in their way.”

Hundreds lined up at H&Ms across New York City, leaving stores depleted of merchandise, according to Racked New York.

In Asia, which had the first store openings, at least one particularly eager person camped out for more than 50 hours in front of the Singapore store, Today reported. He said he was willing to wait for the low prices of the designer collection.

Stores around the globe sold out of the line in mere hours, and H&M's website crashed with the error message: "We have a lot of visitors on the site right now. This is due to the high level of interest in our latest collection."

H&M spokesperson Hacan Andersson told The Huffington Post in an email Thursday: "The interest for this launch has exceeded all previous collaborations. Many customers started to line up early in all markets to be able to shop from the collection. In those markets that have launched the collection the major part of the items are sold out, but there can still be returns in the following days."

The Australian modest-fashion brand Hijab House was conducting a photo shoot near an army base in a Sydney suburb Sunday when it was interrupted by police who reportedly mistook hanging hijabs and outfits for "Islamic flags."

"They made us take the clothes off the fence and took down all our personal details and asked where our car was," Hijab House owner Tarik Houchar told the Australian. "They said they drove past and saw what looked like flags on the fence. They were [mostly] white garments on coat hangers, and pink."

One officer allegedly told the models and photographers they were approached because of "You know, things happening overseas," the paper reported.

“Their details were taken and inquiries were made,” New South Wales Police said in a statement to The Huffington Post, noting the incident occurred near the Victoria Barraks in Paddington. “Police left the area and it is believed the parties remained in the area. No further action was taken.”

Houchar said he and others on set were upset by the questioning.

“I'm still baffled by how the police could have mistaken ordinary looking garments for flags,” Houchar told Daily Mail Australia. "I'm saddened by it all. We were definitely targeted because we had models that were in a hijab."

Murat Turkeli, an onlooker who filmed the incident, expressed the same sentiment to The Australian. “It’s not right that these officers were hassling Muslims who weren’t doing [anything] wrong and they judged them for wearing hijabs.”

Hijab House shared a post about the incident with its 200,000-plus followers on Facebook.

"We just wanted all of you to know that no one should ever have to make you feel intimidated because of the way you dress," the company wrote. "Hold your head high, wear your hijab in pride in these testing times."

Over the weekend, our stylists and models were involved in an intimidating incident in Sydney in which our clothes were...

20 Of The Most Talked-About Blunt Bangs Throughout History

Blunt bangs aren't for the faint of heart. This style of bangs, popularized by silent film star Louise Brooks, Vogue editor Anna Wintour and pop star Taylor Swift, is quite heavy.

While those three celebs have distinctly different face shapes, Theresa Przybyla, a senior stylist for Jose Luis Salon in Austin, Texas, believes blunt bang hairstyles are best suited on those with oval-shaped faces. The straight edge and thickness of a blunt bang balances out the proportions of an oval face. And you can add softness to your fringe by keeping the outer lengths wispy and slightly longer.

Przybyla also suggests this look for anyone with thicker, wavy hair textures. To style your blunt bangs and keep them in place all day long, follow these four steps:

  1. Apply a pea-sized amount of lightweight moisturizing gel like Oribe Gel Sérum on wet fringe for soft control and shimmer.

  2. Using a Mason Pearson Paddle Brush, brush bangs back and forth while blow-drying hair on medium heat until completely dry; this will allow you to smooth cowlicks.

  3. Take a large, round brush and roll bangs under slowly and only once for a subtle bend.

  4. Finish by running your fingers through your hair and shake your head to allow the blunt bangs to fall naturally, and then piece it out with your fingers.

Love 'em or hate 'em, blunt bangs aren't going anywhere! Below are 20 of the most memorable celebrity blunt bang hairstyles in history.
