Perez Hilton Calls Miss Colombia A 'Diva B*tch,' Slams Steve Harvey After Miss Universe Debacle

0
0

By now, you've probably heard that this year's Miss Universe pageant (yes, those still exist) was more of a clusterf**k than usual. In one of the best TV moments of 2015, the event's host, Steve Harvey, announced the wrong winner, forcing Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez to give up the crown to its rightful owner, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.

Now, gossip blogger Perez Hilton, who judged the pageant alongside former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, footballer Emmitt Smith and "Scream Queens" star Niecy Nash, wants some of that spotlight.

“As a judge ... I’m looking at everything that happened, I see her [Miss Colombia] posting on Instagram that she’s the true winner,” Hilton explained on Good Morning America. “There’s a reason -- many reasons -- that she didn’t win.”

Gutierrez did indeed share a photo of herself celebrating her victory in the few minutes she believed the crown was actually hers with the words, "FOREVER YOUR MISS UNIVERSE!! COLOMBIA," written in Spanish as the caption.

POR SIEMPRE TU MISS UNIVERSO!! COLOMBIA !!!!!!! #misscolombia

A photo posted by Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo (@gutierrezary) on

Hilton, 37, continued his rant against Miss Colombia on the "Perez Hilton Podcast" that same day.

“I don’t know if the people at home could see this, but Miss Colombia was being a straight-up diva bitch,” he said. “[She was] rude to her translator. She was giving the most awful side-eye, throwing major shade … Miss Colombia was not happy with the pace or the way that the translator was translating.”

He also took host Harvey to task for not being as prepared for the gig as he should have been.

“[Harvey] just didn’t do his job well, period,” Hilton expressed on “Good Morning America." "There is a prompter but the moment where he crowns the winner isn’t on the prompter because that moment, they don’t want the other girls to know, so it was just on his card and he read it incorrectly.”

Sorry Perez. There's only one "diva bitch" in this scenario, and it isn't Miss Colombia.

20 Fashion Diversity Wins Of 2015 That Make Us Hopeful For Next Year

0
0

The past year has been a great one for diversity in the fashion industry.

In September we started the hashtag #NYFW4ALL during New York Fashion Week as a call to action for our industry to be more inclusive -- whether it be race, body image, and beyond. And the industry responded. This year also saw the rise of the hashtag #BlackGirlMagic, which celebrated the awesomeness of black women. In addition, plus-size supermodel Ashley Graham rolled out several projects to champion curvier women who constantly feel under represented. The list goes on.

While we're thrilled about these wins, we're also looking forward to the day when stories celebrating diversity will be obsolete because the images we see will reflect the wonderfully unique world we live in. #FingersCrossed

Until then, here's a look back on the moments in 2015 that are getting us closer to the goal.

1. When non-models Amy Schumer, Serena Williams and a host of other inspiring women posed (clothed and unclothed) for the 2016 Pirelli calendar

2. When the September 2015 magazine covers were dominated by black women.

3. When Diane von Furstenberg wrote a letter urging fashion designers to cast more models of color in their fashion shows.

4. When the clothing company & Other Stories cast two transgender models, Valentijn De Hingh and Hari Nefstylist, in its advertising campaign.

5. When model Soo Joo Park became the first Asian-American woman to be named global ambassador for L'Oreal Paris.

6. When Lane Bryant teamed up with plus-size model Ashley Graham to launch the #ImNoAngel campaign to celebrate body acceptance.

7. When Teen Vogue featured three brown beauties -- Imaan Hammam, Lineisy Montero, and Aya Jones -- on the cover of its August issue.

8. When South Sudanese model Nykhor Paul wrote an open letter to all the "white people in the fashion world" -- specifically makeup artists -- who don't know how to work with models who have darker complexions.

9. When plus-size model Ashley Graham partnered with Addition Elle to launch her own line of lingerie, and then modeled the collection alongside other curvy models.

10. When H&M cast an array of diverse models in its Close the Loop recycling program commercial -- including the brand's first Muslim model, Mariah Idrissi, to be featured wearing a hijab

11. When supermodel Jourdan Dunn won the title of Model Of The Year at the 2015 British Fashion Awards.

12. When Madeline Stuart, an 18-year-old Australian model who has Down syndrome, worked the runway at New York Fashion Week in Hendrik Vermeulen's Spring 2016 presentation.

13. When plus-size model and avid runn Erica Schenk shattered body image stereotypes by landing the August 2015 issue of Women's Running

14. When model Maria Borges rocked her natural hair on the runway at the Victoria's Secret runway show.

15. When model Stefania Ferrario and Australian actress-cum-author Ajay Rochester launched the #DropThePlus campaign, because they believe that the "plus" label is both counterproductive and harmful to young girls' self esteem.

16. When Caitlyn Jenner introduced herself to the world on Vanity Fair's April 2015 issue.

17. When Qimmah Saafir funded her Kickstarter campaign to launch a new and unique magazine for black women

18. When singer and plus-size model Beth Ditto walked in Marc Jacob's Spring 2016 fashion show and killed it.

19. When Liya Kebede graced the May 2015 cover of Vogue Paris -- marking the first time in five years that a black model has done so.

20. When, yet again, model Ashley Graham let the world know that curves are awesome in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue's first-ever plus-size ad

Adam Levine Goes Platinum Blond (Again)

0

Nothing lasts forever, especially not Adam Levine's hair color.

"The Voice" judge is pretty playful when it comes to matters of the hair-t. We couldn't help but feel some deja-vu when Levine's wife, Behati Prinsloo, posted an Instagram photo of her and her man, now blond, riding a rollercoaster Monday at Disneyland.

Simply captioned "LOL," the Victoria's Secret model gave no explanation of the new 'do.

But lest you think it's some trickery of the #tbt variety, Twitter came to the rescue. Disneyland Celebs, an account which, you guessed it, posts photos and tweets about celebrity sightings at Disneyland, was buzzing with photos from Dec. 21 of Levine sporting platinum locks.

So, there you have it, mane mystery solved. Blond Levine is back... for now.

The Beauty Moments From 2015 That We Are Still Freaking Out About

0
0

Wow! Has it really been nine months since Kim Kardashian went platinum blonde? That didn't last long. Now that we're counting down to the end of 2015, it's only right that we look back at the most unforgettable beauty moments.

The Kardashian-Jenner family gave us a lot to talk (and argue) about -- from Kimmy's short-lived dramatic hair makeover to Kylie's successful Lip Kit launch. But there were other individuals who deserve some time in the spotlight. For example, model Maria Borges opting out of wearing super-long hair extensions to rock her natural hair at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Not to mention, Jared Leto and Zayn Malik serving #hairgoals with their brightly-dyed manes.

Here's a list of all the beauty moments from this year that are worth reminiscing about. Are we missing anything? Let us know in the comments section below.

Makeup Launches That Were On Everyone's Lips (Literally!)

The three biggest cosmetics to launch this year were all highly-coveted lipsticks. MAC Cosmetics fulfilled our holiday wishes with the Mariah Carey "All I Want" Lipstick, a champagne shimmer shade that harkens back to the frosty pout the pop singer sported back in the '90s. The youngest (and arguably most famous) Jenner debuted the Kylie Lip Kit line this November, and the products sold out unsurprisingly. But that wasn't the only lipstick to sell out super fast. Music and makeup lovers purchased all of Drake's signature Tom Ford lip color (a miniature metallic plum hue) online in "mere minutes."

The Natural Hair Movement Stormed The Runways

Black and biracial models with different hair types and textures, including curly, wavy and kinky, turned heads with their magnificent manes as they hit the runways. Standout looks included Michael Lockley's dirty-blonde coils spotted at Jeremy Scott's Spring 2016 Show and Maria Borges' teeny weeny Afro at the 2015 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. And we have to acknowledge singer-actress-style icon Zoë Kravitz, who walked in Alexander Wang's finale Balenciaga show with her waist-long box braids.

Social Media Campaigns Prove It's Time To Change Beauty Standards

Thanks to Twitter and Instagram, anyone with a message had platforms to make an impact. Amy Schumer used her candid humor to produce a "Girl, You Don’t Need Makeup" parody which reminded women that they are beautiful without makeup. The powerful movement took off thanks to a hash tag with the same name, and it even encouraged men to bare their faces in support. Meanwhile, YouTube star NikkieTutorials' #ThePowerofMakeup campaign reassured us all that there is absolutely no shame in getting glammed up either. Beauty brand Dove continued it's #LoveYourCurls mission by launching an emoji keyboard complete with 27 curly hair designs that represent various skin tones and hair colors. FINALLY!

Hair Color Got Trippy

We said bye-bye to ombré and hey, what's up, to a new hair color trend: tortoiseshell hair. Bronde, a natural-looking dye job, was a favorite among celebs like Gisele Bündchen and Blake Lively. Instead of a clear contrast from root to tip, the tortoiseshell look combines warm colors like golden blonde and chocolates to form a beautiful combination of hues.

Holographic hair came in the form of a new technique called "hand-pressed color," which uses sheets of glass and large brushes to create. Check out colorist Chiala Marvici's very cool process here.

On the other end of the spectrum, guys were embracing the Manic Panic-like colors that we thought were a thing of the past. Jared Leto rocked neon pink, Zayn Malik showed up to Paris Fashion Week with a platinum buzz cut (after Kim Kardashian went platinum) and Joe Jonas even dyed part of his 'do blue.

The Beauty Industry Got Called Out

The New York Times shocked with its investigative report on the terrible working conditions in New York nail salons. Of course, backlash ensued and the NYT issued a rebuttal.

Popular black hairstyles like bantu knots and the Afro were showcased in mainstream media, leading many to believe that these "trends" were new to 2015. Just to name a few instances, baby hair was a "wild" new trend, according to Elle UK and now defunct Lucky Magazine. Allure published a tutorial on how to get an Afro, using a white model, while "mini-buns," aka bantu knots, went down the Marc Jacobs runway and were deemed a trend without reference to its historical roots.

But, the industry didn't get away with these terrible mishaps that easily. Amandla Stenberg called out Kylie Jenner for cultural appropriation after Jenner wore cornrows. Stenberg went on to comment even more, powerfully stating "Do female black lives matter too?" Additionally, entertainer Zendaya clapped-back at Giuliana Rancic after the television personality made racist comments about the young star's faux locs hairstyle.

Good news, though! Model Soo Joo Park became the first Asian-American spokesperson for L'Oréal Paris, which is huge. Here's to more diversity in 2016!

Nostalgic Beauty Brands Gave Us The Best News Ever

Lip Smackers and Bath & Body Works made two major announcements this year that rocked '90s/'00s kids' worlds. The former was said to shut down its operations in America, but then Lip Smackers came back to say that our favorite flavored lip balm would be "revamping" its brand. Bath & Body Works confirmed that six of its legendary scents would be making a comeback, including Cucumber Melon and Juniper Breeze. Nostalgia never smelled so good and saturated!

Our 10 Favorite Sneakers of 2015

By Jake Woolf for GQ.

(photos: Matt Martin and Nick Sultana)

2015 was a straight-up epic when it came to sneaker releases. From the dawn of the Yeezy Boosts era to a historical slew of retro Air Jordans that hit shelves, more fresh kicks were released this year than maybe any before. But these are the 10 that we'll be thinking about next year (and a few more after that).

2015-12-22-1450816542-5680689-conversersuede01.jpg

Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star Suede
Though the Chuck Taylor All-Star II--a revamped version of the original--made the most noise in 2015, the suede version of the original Chuck was our favorite Converse sneaker of the year. Who doesn't love a classic done up in a luxurious fabric and beautiful burgundy colorway?

2015-12-22-1450816619-8286471-yeezymoonrocktout.jpg

Yeezy Boost 350 "Moonrock"
Of all of the Yeezys to drop this year, our favorite has to be the low-top 350 Boost "Moonrock." The 750s, while completely futuristic and new, aren't exactly the most wearable shoes ever. But the moonrocks, with their soft, green-gray hue, are perfectly representative of Kanye's earthy color palette as a designer. Now, if just more people could get their hands on a pair, and Mr. West's plans to take over the world of fashion would be in fully set in motion.

2015-12-22-1450816670-6209955-sownorthfacexvanstout_1024.jpg

Vans x North Face Sk-8 Hi
Since they first hit the skate scene in the 1970s, the Vans Sk-8 Hi has been a universal symbol of chilled-out style. But in the Northeast, where things can get a little too chill, these waterproof versions made alongside the outdoor experts at The North Face meant finally Sk-8 His could be a year-round sneaker.

2015-12-22-1450816711-4720216-nikeacronym01.jpg

Nike x Acronym Lunar Force 1
Errolson Hugh, designer of Acronym, made his best Nike ACG collection yet in 2015, but the most hyped-up collab between the two labels came in the form of a re-worked Nike Lunarforce 1. Thanks to a patent leather heel and some well-placed zippers, Hugh took the sneaker from its 1980s roots and propelled into the (very stylish) future.

Adidas Stan Smith Primeknit
The Adidas Stan Smith is one of the most universally beloved sneakers of all-time, but it wasn't until this year that it became the undisputed shoe of summer. Thanks to a super breathtable Primeknit upper, the Primeknit Stan Smith keeps all of the classic elements of the sneaker in take (and actually improves upon the shape), while also being the perfect contender for men who love to go sockless, and also those who refuse to wear flip-flops anywhere but the beach.

Nike Air Max 95 Jacquard
To celebrate 20 years of the Air Max 95--probably the coolest clunky running sneaker of all-time--Nike showed off just how many cool things they can do with a Flyknit fabric. An insanely intricate weaving pattern makes up the upper of this 95, while some bright-as-hell colorways made it a true standout this year.

2015-12-22-1450816883-764829-adidasultraboostwhite1.jpg

Adidas Ultra Boost
The Adidas Ultra Boost is the best sneaker of 2015 period. Not only is it the most comfortable shoe of the year, it also looks more like a 2015 sneaker than anything else on this list. Though Kanye's Yeezys grabbed the most headlines, the Ultra Boost is a better sneaker in almost every category (sorry, Yeezy). Plus, even though Kanye's preferred white-on-white colorway sold out with each and every re-stock, for the most part the Ultra Boost was always available for purchase to any customers that wanted a pair.

2015-12-22-1450816920-1209133-adidasultraboostwhite1.jpg

Nike SFB Chukka
For years, Nike Flyknit technology has been the standard of athletic shoe comfort and innovation. This year, it got a mossy green colorway and a water-resistant Flyknit, making it the perfect transitional sneakerboot for fall.

2015-12-22-1450816957-3533852-commonprojectsdoverstreettout.jpg

Common Projects x Dover Street Market Achilles
A modern classic sneaker--the Common Projects Achilles--got a playful makeover thanks to the out-there gang at Comme des Garçons-owned Dover Street Market.

2015-12-22-1450817002-8008718-adidaspushastout.jpg

Pusha T x Adidas EQT Running Guidance 93 "Black Market"
Though this was the second EQT Running Guidance 93 collab between Adidas and Pusha, the murdered-out version of the vintage 3-stripe sneaker is probably the most detailed and beautiful constructed mass-market sneaker of the year. Between the supple leather, fishscale detail, and pure hype surrounding its release, this sneaker is totally representative of the cultural impact Adidas made this year in sneakers.

Highlighting has been around forever but has recently become a huge trend. Beauty bloggers across the world post instructional videos on how to get the perfect highlight. Below are a few of my favorite highlighters and illuminators.

The Balm Mary-lou Manizer Aka The Luminizer Shimmer, Highlighter and Eyeshadow, with Twinbeauty Brush

This product has been a wonderful highlight for me and I believe it is good for any skin tone. It leaves a golden look to the skin providing it with a healthy glow. A little goes a long way with this product so be careful not to overdo it.

Lovely Collection Illuminators

2015-12-22-1450814194-6858985-ScreenShot20151222at1.19.11PM.png

These illuminators come in three colors:

Rosy - Pink for women with fairer skin.
Goldie - A whimsical shade meant for women with more of an olive complexion
Toasty - With a hint of bronze, Toasty is perfect for women with deeper skin tones

For an ethereal glow, apply the product to cheekbones, brow bones, the center of the forehead, and the nose and chin.

HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Palette: Dim light -Incandescent Light -Radiant Light

This is a magical powder with magical powers. It blurs and defuses many of the issues you might be having on your skin. The three colors offer you different options for multiple areas of your face. It is an effortless and well-blended powder that works great with all skin tones. I recommend this pallet to all my clients.

Benefit Cosmetics Watt'S Up! Soft Focus Highlighter for Face .33 oz

I love this highlighter mostly because people can't tell you are wearing a highlighter. Instead your face just has a natural, beautiful glow. If you are new to highlighting I recommend this product as a great subtle one to start with.

Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc - Golden Mosaic

This tiny little compact is a bronzer, highlighter, and blush all in one. It has light-reflecting properties that bind together giving skin a healthy glow. Use each color for its individual purpose or combine them to make yourself a customized blush.

Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer 0.23 Fl. Oz.

This subtle golden luminizer is infused with multicolored luster pigments to capture and reflect light. I mix this in with my liquid foundation for an all over natural glow.

From making travel plans to buying gifts, the habit is always lurking around the corner, telling you to put off your obligations and face potentially disastrous results. Without a doubt, there is one holiday custom that falls victim to laziness above all others: sending out holiday greeting cards.

15 Ways My Bra Habits Have Changed Since My 20s

0
0
I'm a long time bra wearer, so my bra habits are pretty ingrained.

Over the years, I've shifted my bra buying and wearing routines. I've developed a deeper appreciation for and greater love of lingerie. It's not just because I've grown older or wiser (since the first may be true, but the latter is debatable).

The intimate apparel industry has also gone through some changes over the past four decades. I can buy bras online, from anywhere in the world. I can also support new designers and start-ups, too. But I've changed in significant ways, as well.

Here are some of the things I've noticed about my current bra habits when compared to my younger, perkier years:

1. Embrace changes to my breasts. I knew my breasts didn't stay the same size in my 20s but thought that only happened during my monthly cycle. Even then, I didn't bother to wear a different bra size or style to accommodate regular shifts. Having been through multiple pregnancies and menopause, I get that it's all one big, surprising journey.

2. Shop for what's in the Bra Zone, not one size. Bra brands and styles don't all fit me the same way. Given that cups can be equivalent to each other over different band lengths; I worry less about fitting into one size and work with more letters and numbers.

2015-12-21-1450663620-4964015-IMG_3725.jpg

3. Don't blame my breasts if the bra doesn't fit. This realization is a product of knowing my Bra Zone. After all, I don't blame my feet if the shoes don't fit. I just try on another pair.

4. Less concerned with an ideal breast aesthetic. I was unhappy with my breasts throughout my teens, 20s and even up into my 40s. I envied those with smaller boobs and longed to wear pretty unstructured bralettes. Except for a couple of years right after my surgical breast lift, my boobs required more support. Now I know it doesn't matter. Whatever their shape or size, my breasts are unique and perfect. Plus my partners never complain, lol.

5. Buy from online retailers and local boutiques, and rate their services. I was so desperate to find beautiful, affordable bras in my youth that I didn't pay much attention to my power as a consumer or loyal customer. Now I do. I make sure to rate retailers and review products. I want my favorite shops to stay in business!

6. Take in account industry advertising. Part of my problem with bras was a desperation to find something that fit and looked good under clothes. How one brand marketed their products to me didn't much matter. Now I weigh how retailers and manufacturers choose to sell their products. If I find a campaign sexist or offensive, I won't buy or support the brand.

7. Pay attention to the manufacturing process. Who thinks about how and where their bras are made? (Everything I know about sewing I learned in a middle school Home Economics class.) It's not always easy to get this information. Bra parts can come from multiple countries and vendors. But this issue has become more important to me as I age. I try to support companies that treat workers and the environment with care and consideration.

2015-12-21-1450663721-3744566-IMG_37481.jpg

8. Rely on construction and materials to trump price. A $70 bra might be of greater value to me than one that is $150 -- or vice versa. Regardless of the manufacturer, I look at the quality of manufacturing and materials used.

9. Build a bra wardrobe of styles. I bought whatever I could find in my 20s. There are far more brands, sizes and styles to choose from today. I love the possibilities provided by a plunge, balconette or great t-shirt bra when it perfectly compliments the outfit I'm wearing that day.

10. Invest in quality pieces. Yes, I do have more disposable income than in my 20s. That's not the only reason I purchase some brands, though. Higher quality lingerie lasts longer than some of the cheaper alternatives. I'm getting more for my money -- both in support and fashion.

11. Always air dry my intimates. This lesson may have taken me the longest to learn. For many years, I routinely put my underwire bras in the dryer. The high heat destroyed elastic and wires quickly popped out of casings. Not anymore.

12. Launder my lingerie by hand. Another lesson that was hard for me to learn. But thanks to no-rinse products, I've found it easier to hand wash my delicates than put them in a washing machine. Yay for wash day!!!

13. Learned how to resell or recycle my bras. More companies are now in the business of helping consumers recycle bras. There are plenty of organizations that need gently used lingerie as a way to help underserved populations of women. And thanks to the Internet, there are forums for selling used bras.

14. More often than not coordinate bras with panties. You know that feeling of satisfaction when you're totally put together from head to toe? There's nothing quite like wearing a gorgeous bra and panty set, even if it's in a neutral color.

15. Embrace the reality of wearing great foundations. For years, I couldn't wait to bring home a new piece of lingerie and show it off to my long-term partner. Now single, beautiful sets linger a little longer in my lingerie drawer before their first wear. When I do finally give in, it's empowering to know that I no longer need any outside validation. It's about me being good to me.

How about you? Have your bra-buying or wearing habits changed as you've grown older? In what way?

The Body Positivity Epidemic

0
0
Recently, the New York Post ran an article about a linkage that has been discovered between ads featuring plus size women and consumers making poor food and exercise choices.

The study -- released by Simon Fraser University -- has proven that "women who saw the ad with the 'normal' or 'real' body slogans made higher calorie and poorer exercise choices." The conclusion that this research team drew from that finding is that ads featuring non-idealized depictions of feminine beauty, such as plus size models, are "harmful."

2015-12-21-1450665075-2986508-MelindaParrishByChrisCarroll8042.jpg

I find it interesting that in a society where women are mutilating and, in some cases, killing themselves in order to become thin, we define the removal of shame from our food and exercise choices as "harmful." Because living in a world where women feel free to choose what they eat and how they move their bodies would be just terrible, right?

Any study like this is going to be open to interpretation, so I'm not claiming to be a research specialist who is qualified to comment on the methods and conclusions presented here. But from my perspective, the whole belief set underlying this study is what we're really trying to address in the body positivity movement.

2015-12-20-1450633824-4607033-MelindaParrishByChrisCarroll8047.jpg

We have all grown up in a world where marketing messages have to some degree dictated our beliefs about ourselves and our choices. So what the ad shows, we go and try to become. That's why the plus size fashion industry has been so empowering for women. Because finally, there are clothes being designed specifically for plus size women, and being modeled by plus size models. Finally, we are beginning to interrogate those marketing messages that have told us that in order to be beautiful and have value in this world, we have to be impossibly thin. For many women, this has been a great thing that has allowed them to heal their relationships with their bodies.

Part of what this study is really asserting is that the notion of women defining their own standard of beauty for themselves is perceived as a dangerous and harmful thing. Because if we don't all buy into the standards of "healthy" that have been defined for us by the "experts," we're going off script and no longer spending our time, money and emotional energy on chasing that standard. We might actually have enough resources left over to truly establish a lifestyle centered on actual well-being and doing the things that we've been denying ourselves up until this point.

2015-12-21-1450665153-3097115-MelindaParrishByChrisCarroll8006.jpg

My own views on body positivity are pretty simple. If you're just obsessing about your external appearance and unattainable standards of perfection, you're going to drive yourself crazy and potentially turn into a very ugly, unpleasant person. I think that if you make the choice to embrace your body as it is and stop obsessively trying to change it, you open up space in your life to start doing those things that really are going to make you feel like the person that you want to be. Like showing your body love through movement, connecting and engaging with the people around you and going after the things that you dream of.

In the next few weeks, you'll be hearing more from me about the woman that I want to be, and hearing from many women that I admire and respect about their own relationships with their bodies, their careers and their emotional lives. I look forward to sharing that with you, and I hope that you'll take it all as permission to begin becoming the woman that you want to be, too.

Khloe Kardashian Releases More Nude Pics From Sexy St. Barts Shoot

Forget the swimsuit -- Khloe Kardashian is all about hitting the pool in her birthday suit.

On Tuesday, the reality star released a new set of photos from her allegedly "impromptu" sexy St. Barts shoot on her web app, and girl does not hold back.

In the pics, which were taken by Mike Rosenthal, Khloe looks absolutely amazing, posing in the water and lounging by the pool wearing nothing (save for some sparkles). She didn't call it her "Birthday Suit in St. Barts" shoot for nothing.

Last week, the 31-year-old shared photos from the same shoot, which took place during the Kardashian family vacation on the Caribbean island.

Since her split from Lamar Odom in 2013, Khloe has transformed her body. She recently released her book, Strong Looks Better Naked, in which she talks about her journey to becoming a healthier, stronger person, and she'll soon be helping heartbroken individuals get their own "revenge bodies" on a new reality show

Prince Harry Released His Own Christmas Card And It Is Actually Perfect

0
0

It was just last week that the royal family melted hearts with their adorable Christmas greeting, but Prince Harry might have just stolen the title for cutest card of the year.

Kensington Palace released the Christmas card image Tuesday of Harry holding hands with 95-year-old Tom Neil, an ex-wing commander and Battle of Britain Hurricane and Spitfire pilot. Harry met the Neil in September, when veterans and servicemen gathered to mark the aerial conflict's 75th anniversary.

It just so happened to be Harry's birthday, and he was supposed to ride in a Spitfire. The royal gave up his seat to ensure Neil and two wounded servicemen could participate in the events.

Citing the experience as one of the prince's "most memorable moments of 2015," the black-and-white image is moving, what with all of its hand-holding and smiling faces.

Well done, Harry. Consider the bar raised for Christmas cards of both royals and mere mortals alike.

Yes, You Can Make Uggs Cute: Come See 3 Outfits Rachel Zoe Styled Just for Us

By Leah Melby, Glamour

In the great shoe landscape, Uggs have a somewhat complicated history. They're blissfully comfortable, but often regarded as kick-around options most appropriate for lounging at home which is, you know, kind of a bummer when you remember how deliciously comfortable they are to wear. We got a chance to sit down with Rachel Zoe earlier this season and listen to her outfit-making tips for making the cozy boots chic.

"When I first fell in love with a pair of Uggs it was on a classic California girl who grew up in Malibu," she told us. "That was 20 years ago, and she had on cutoffs, a turtleneck, and no makeup." In the ensuing years the stylist has nursed a serious relationship with the brand, both in collecting a serious stash at home for her and Rodger, but also professionally (she styled the brand's latest look book).

"It's really more about your outfit, not the shoes. Keep it to classic pieces we all have," she instructed, bending down to fuss with a model's pant leg. Zoe might be a world-famous stylist with a media empire, but she's not above getting close to the floor to work.

Outfit 1: Wearing Uggs with a dress or skirt

2015-12-22-1450825308-6117207-rachelzoestyledcuteoutfitwithuggsdressh724.jpg

Zoe professed an affinity for "rich, winter whites and chestnut" in the chillier months, a combo that lends itself to being finished with a warm brown pair of boots. To wear Uggs with bare legs, keep the height low. By rising just over the ankle bone, not mid-calf like the traditional silhouette, the look has more in common with your favorite pair of ankle boots than winter warriors. This short style also has a tiny lift via a 1.5" hidden platform, a boon for women who love their heels.

Outfit 2: Wearing Uggs with jeans

2015-12-22-1450825380-9687898-uggoutfitskinnyjeansh724.jpg

Skip the boyfriend jeans in this situation--the sleeker silhouette of skinnies keeps the boots looking more polished. "Balance them with what you're wearing," she instructed, ensuring the look felt ready for dinner, not an errand trek, by picking a silky blouse and sleek, tailored jacket. We love a good hoodie moment as much as the next girl, but the comfy kicks need more polished pieces to feel elevated.

Outfit 3: Wearing Uggs with leggings

2015-12-22-1450825401-2241333-rachelzoestyledcuteoutfitwithuggsmilitaryjacketh724.jpg

Surprise! The new generation of Uggs can actually feel way different than the first time you met the brand. With laces and a shearling-lined tongue, the Bethany has DNA in common with work boots and sneakers (proving that every brand is being affected by athleisure), and the trendy shape is a perfect fit for of-the-moment styles like the leggings and shrunken military jacket Zoe picked. Notice the irregular tie job too? She told us it was an experiment she tried on the spur of the moment and liked enough to keep. Copy by skipping the top hole, pulling the laces tight to the back, and tying behind your ankle.

Unless you work in an uber-corporate work environment, Zoe also says the shoes can be a do at the office. Incorporate them into your outfit as you would a pair of ankle boots, but be sure they're in good shape (no salt stains from snowstorms of seasons' past). "I recommend rolling the boots down to start. That way it's like a shearling ankle boot."

All the boots Zoe used here are from Ugg's new Classic Slim collection; browse and shop here.

Australia is responsible for exporting so much style (Uggs included!). Come meet a pair of BFF style bloggers we're loving, and find out why it's time to pay attention to Aussie fashion.

16 Ways You're Doing Your Nails Wrong

0
0
By Lindsay Schallon, Glamour

2015-12-22-1450826990-6573499-nail_mistakes.jpg

There's nothing worse than spending an hour on your nails only to have them chip or smudge minutes later. These easy tricks will help you fix all the sneaky saboteurs that are messing with your mani game.

Nail Mistake #1: Not Washing Your Hands Before Applying Polish

Ever notice how nail technicians put polish remover on your nails before painting them, even if you didn't have polish on them in the first place? That's because your nails have natural oils (usually transferred from your finger tips), which can prevent polish from adhering correctly. A quick fix? Follow suit and swipe your nails with polish remover before breaking out your base coat. Then wash your hands with soap and water to get rid of any remaining film or oil, says Butter London global color ambassador Katie Jane Hughes.

Nail Mistake #2: Filing Your Nails in Different Directions

If you're treating your nail file like a saw, you're making your nails more susceptible to peeling and breakage. Not good. Here's the right way to even out your shape. "Gently run the file across the nail in one direction, beginning at the outside edge and pulling toward the center," says celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann. If your nails are already on the thinner side, Lippmann recommends holding the file flush to your nail, and tilting it so you file from slightly underneath. "This allows you to see exactly what you're doing and helps protect against over-filing," she says.

Nail Mistake #3: Forgetting to Buff Your Nails

"If you don't buff, the natural oils in your nails can build up, leaving manicure-ruining residue on them," says Rita Remark, Essie global lead educator. "Buffing your nails is kind of like brushing your teeth--it's brightening, it makes nails look more youthful, and it gets rid of ridges." Her tool of choice? A standard sponge buffing block--it's soft, smooth, and not too abrasive. "I also love using them on the sides of my fingers when they start to get dry and peel," she says. Noted.

Nail Mistake #4: Not Exfoliating Your Cuticles

Contrary to popular belief, cuticle oils and cuticle removers are not one and the same--nor can they be used interchangeably. Oils help moisturize, while removers act like an exfoliating treatment for your nail beds. "Imagine using moisturizer to try to exfoliate your face," says Lippmann. "It's just not going to take off the dead skin." Start by massaging a cuticle treatment like Deborah Lippmann Cuticle Remover ($20, sephora.com) into your cuticles, and gently push them back with an orange wood stick. "Not only does this help get the cuticle off the nail plate, but it also helps get rid of dead skin cells safely and effectively," Lippmann says. Apply a cuticle oil after to add hydration.

Nail Mistake #5: Skipping a Base Coat

You're probably thinking, Duh! I know this. But it's the biggest mistake pros say they see, so consider this your friendly reminder. "If you want happy, healthy, and even the possibility of longer nails, it's important to begin every manicure with a high-quality nourishing base coat," says Caption Polish cofounder Greg Salo. "Not only does it protect your nails from stains, it also fills ridges and strengthens nails too." A bonus of all that: It'll lead to a smoother polish application, meaning your manicure is less likely to chip. We love the Caption Polish Base Coat ($12, dermstore.com).

Nail Mistake #6: Not Using a Special Base Coat for Glitter Polish

While we're on the topic of base coats, did you know there are now peel-off ones that work wonders for removing tough-to-get-off textures like glitter? They're particularly game-changing if you want a little sparkle on the weekends, but can't show up to the office on Monday with your nails looking like a Kesha concert. Our favorite? Sally Hansen Big Peel Off Base Coat ($5.99, ulta.com).

2015-12-22-1450826903-3507569-07nailmistakestoomuchpolish.jpg

Nail Mistake #7: Using Too Much Polish

A big blob of polish takes forever to dry, and you'll be left with a bumpy finish. "Many of us overload the brush and do too many strokes," says Nails Inc. founder Thea Green. "The key is to load just enough polish on the brush to cover the nail in one coat." Her fail-proof technique? Stripe the nail three times: once down the middle, once on each side, and then repeat until you get your desired opacity.

Nail Mistake #8: Not Waiting Long Enough Between Coats

If you're not waiting at least one or two minutes before applying another coat of color or a topcoat, you're not giving the solvents in your polish enough time to evaporate (which, ultimately, is what dries your nails). Celebrity manicurist Gina Edwards describes it this way: "You know how there's a difference when you cook something in the microwave versus when you cook it in the oven? It holds the flavor in more when you take the time to use the oven. The same can be said for your nails. The longer you wait between coats, the more it'll keep your color locked in." Use your iPhone timer if you really need help slowing yourself down.

Nail Mistake #9: Skipping a Topcoat

This one is simple: "There are times when we're in a rush, and we cheat, but if you don't use a topcoat, your polish won't last as long," says Green. We're fans of Nails Inc. 45-Second Top Coat With Kensington Caviar ($15, sephora.com) for its sleek, shiny finish and quick-dry formula.

Nail Mistake #10: Being Sloppy With Your Topcoat

You put on your color with careful precision--congrats! Now don't ruin that with a messy topcoat application. "I see this all the time," says Madeline Poole, Sally Hansen global color ambassador. "Women think, It's clear! You can't tell. But really, you can once it dries." The reason? Shrinkage. (Yes, that's really what it's called!) "Topcoats tighten as they dry, which is what can cause those little ridges if you don't put it on properly." Another downside: Those areas will also end up chipping faster.

Related: The Prettiest Beauty Gifts to Treat Yourself to This Holiday Season

Nail Mistake #11: Not Sealing Off the Edges of Your Nails

Nicks and chips tend to happen most at the tip of the nail, and yet, many women neglect to give that part a little extra topcoat love. Try this trick; it acts like Saran Wrap for the polish on that area: "Take a topcoat like Morgan Taylor Make It Last ($8.50, loxabeauty.com) and run a horizontal swipe of it over the bottom edge of your nail after you do your last coat," says Edwards. Let it dry, and repeat one more time.

Nail Mistake #12: Forgetting to Clean Up Your Cuticles

The biggest telltale sign of a DIY mani versus a salon one? Polish speckles on the sides and edges of your cuticles. "When you finish applying your topcoat, dip a thin cleanup brush in nail polish remover and lightly skim around the outer edge of the nail to remove any excess lacquer," says Hughes. "This helps make the paint job sharper and your manicure last longer." Don't own a striper brush? A pointed cotton swab works too.

Mistake #13: Dipping Your Hands in Cold Water to Make Polish Dry Faster

"This makes the polish look more putty-like, giving the illusion it's drying faster," says Remark. "But really, it's only changing the consistency of the polish." Another hack that doesn't actually work? Blowing on your nails. "Technically nail polish doesn't dry--it cures," she says. The only way to do that is to expose it to oxygen, so blowing on them does nothing to speed up the process. You also risk tiny drops of saliva getting on your nail (yuck), which can create bubbles in the polish. So is there anything that does make nails dry faster? Remark recommends using a quick-dry spray because it's designed to make polish oxidize from the inside out.

Mistake #14: Starting Over If Your Mani Gets Smudged

Good news: There's a fix for minor smudges, and it doesn't require repainting your nails. Enter Kur Instant Smudge Fix by Londontown ($14, londontownusa.com)--or as we like to call it, the Mani Saver. If the smudge is light enough that you can't see the nail through the polish, just slick one coat of this stuff over your whole nail, and let it dry for 30 seconds. Then reapply your topcoat. Your polish will look good as new.

Nail Mistake #15: Not Moisturizing Between Polish Changes

Treating your hands and nails should be a more regular part of your beauty routine--not just a once-a-week thing. "A major part of manicure maintenance is keeping your nails and cuticles hydrated, especially when you are using your hands often (i.e. washing dishes, doing laundry, constantly typing, etc.)," says Skyy Hadley, celebrity manicurist and owner of As U Wish Nail Spa in Hoboken, New Jersey. She recommends applying cuticle oil to your nails and cuticles every other day. "This will restore moisture and also help prevent chipping and splitting," she says.

Nail Mistake #16: Peeling Off Gel Polish

When you pick at gel polish, you're actually removing layers of your nail with it. That's because gels bond to your nails. If you're in a pinch and can't make it to the salon for a removal, Paintbox creative director Julie Kandalec taught us this technique: First, file the topcoat off with a nail file. ("You want to file into the color, but not all the way down to the nail," she says.) Then soak a cotton ball in pure acetone until it's fully saturated. Place the cotton ball over your nail, and wrap tinfoil around it. ("That helps keep the heat in, which prevents the acetone from evaporating," she adds.) Let your nails soak for 10 to 15 minutes, and then use an orange wood stick to push the polish off. "You want to go in the direction your nail grows, from right above the cuticle to the tip," says Kandalec. "If you go the other way, it can cause damage to the nail."

Etiquette and Fashion Events

0
0
Until the early twentieth century, the main way people saw new clothes, especially the latest from Paris, was on dolls. Around 1391 Charles VI of France sent Queen Anne of England a "fashion doll" wearing the latest royal court dress, she was the fashion ambassador of French taste.

In the 21st century technology takes in charge of spreading sartorial trends through Instagram, tweets, mail... from all over the world. We know what is the latest in Paris, New York, London, Milan, Dubai, Kuwait, Iran... And these pictures are seen by the whole globe while hundreds of thousands of people, including models, journalists, retailers, celebrities, and executives, participate in the shows and festivities around the globe every season. So, legitimately the question to ask here is what to wear when invited to a fashion show?

While it can sometimes seem that the world has fallen victim to a sort of sartorial globalization, where jeans are welcome anytime, anywhere, the truth is more nuanced. You can wear jeans but you need to spiff them up. Make sure you're wearing the latest trend, i.e this season must-have denim comes as cropped slightly flared frayed hem. And remember what works in Singapore might be greeted with looks of horror in Paris. And while you can pile on the gold and jewels in Greece, you'll be perceived wearing all this jewelry as vulgar in Germany. So here are the rules on looking not just appropriate but actually stylish around the globe, in fashion events.
Simple: Think your everyday style but elevated.

Don't ignore weather conditions, if it's cold wear an appropriate outfit and leave your tiny shorts for summer!

Don't wear shoes you can't walk in.

Keep it elegantly casual. Unless you feel like you have to wear an outfit worthy of a thousand camera flashes like Lady Gaga or Anna Dello Russo and you're up to it... otherwise please refrain. Gone are the days when bloggers had to wear weird outfits to be noticed. The name of the game now, is trendy elegance.

I can't say it enough, your best kept secret for looking like a million bucks is a tailor who knows your figure. Don't just grab something off the rack and assume it will fall perfectly on you. Make sure the sleeves are not too long before you get to the show or the hem length not flattering...

Unless you are a celebrity with some consistent spending means, there is no reason you should drop an entire month's rent on a new outfit for the show. By all means do buy a beautiful investment piece that stands out and is re-wearable. But I don't advise to invest in a designer piece just for this one show.

Put on your diva pout and wear your big sunglasses while on your way to the show. But, please, pull them off during the duration of the event. If you're trying to stay incognito, then stay home.

Most of the time, I'm all for fabulous over functional. And in this particular event it is not the time for ballet flats, unless you opted for those amazing pointed ballerinas by Dior! This is one of the only times your most decadent, beautiful shoes will have a reason to exist besides collecting them in your closet for your own visual pleasure and ego boost!

If you're new to the fashion scene, I strongly suggest to bring a fashionable friend with whom you can chat and gossip!

Remember when I said earlier don't go designer? That doesn't apply to the handbag. I beg you do not carry a faux designer one; the real thing is a must.

If black is your comfort zone, make an effort and think you'll be mingling with a fun, bright crowd, you don't want to be singled out. A pop of color never hurts anyone, or simply go for a black and white outfit.

Elegance and refinement are key words in every occasion including fashion events. No need to flash extra flesh.

And remember in such egocentric milieu, most people are going to be so focused on catching a celebrity or busy taking selfies that they aren't going to even notice what you're wearing and if your shoes are from last year's collection.

Now that we covered your outfits let's tackle your behavior.

Don't block the view of everyone around you while you Instagram every look.
Don't put on heavy perfume in a show, it is unacceptable.
Don't post hundreds of blurry, horrible photos on Instagram and useless videos of every event you attend just to show how cool you are. I'm so unfollowing!
Don't wear imposing hair styles or even hats in the front row. Remember there are people behind you...

I always hear fashion people complaining about fashion events, there's too many, they're time consuming... Well guess what, it's part of the job description if you're in the industry, and getting to meet and speak with some of the fashion and beauty leading crowds is a privilege that most don't get to experience. Otherwise change your job!

The Top 15 Beauty Trends of 2015, According to the Lipstick Index

0
0
By Lindsey Unterberger, Glamour

The Lipstick Index tracks how many times beauty trends are mentioned across Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and the Web at large and ranks them in real time. We compiled all that data to bring you what's been trending throughout the year. Take a look as we count down the trends, and see how many you've tried.

2015-12-22-1450828132-5947066-smoky_eye.jpg

#15: Smoky Eyes

After watching countless runway shows during Fashion Week, we called it: Eye makeup is back and bigger than ever. And the Internet agreed--particularly on Instagram, where people tagged or mentioned smoky eyes on the regular (think tutorials, makeup-of-the-day photos, shadow palettes, etc.). Conversations spiked in October, especially around Halloween makeup but have remained strong since.

See where smoky eyes rank on the Lipstick Index now.

#14: Lip Balm

Lip balm trended consistently on the Index throughout the year, with chatter being more product-focused than look-based. A major portion of shout-outs went to balms from Nivea, Eos, and Maybelline. And while we can't prove it definitively, we have a sneaking suspicion the buzz around the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge contributed to lip balm's high ranking.

See where lip balm ranks on the Lipstick Index now.

#13: False Lashes

No Instagram makeup tutorial was complete without a set of falsies or lash extensions--or so it would seem. Common hashtags associated with the trend included #lashesfordays and--for better or worse--#lashesonfleek.

See where false lashes rank on the Lipstick Index now.

#12: Hair Extensions

#FakeHairDontCare may be a bit of a misnomer: Conversations about clip-ins, Keratin extensions, wefts, wigs, and weaves spiked across all social platforms this year.

See where hair extensions rank on the Lipstick Index now.

#11: Mineral Makeup

Mentions of mineral makeup increased considerably at the beginning of November and have remained strong. One explanation? Colder, drier weather could be driving people to look for products that won't irritate their extra-sensitive skin.

See where mineral makeup ranks on the Lipstick Index now.

#10: Long Nails

The year 2015 was a big one for nail shapes. We saw everything from stiletto nails to coffin nails, all of which had serious length and Instagram-ability. Search #nailporn or #nailsofinstagram to see just how talon-happy we got.

#9: Red Lipstick

Red lipstick = Instagram gold. It's a classic that photographs so. damn. well. Women also loved to profess their love for their favorite shade (hey, the struggle is real), with references to MAC Cosmetics outpacing the rest.

See where red lipstick ranks on the Lipstick Index now.

#8: Bangs

Bangs were huge on Instagram, of course, but also on Facebook and Twitter. People debated whether to get them, what kind to get, and how to style them. And they loved to show off their results when they did finally decide to make the cut.

See where bangs rank on the Lipstick Index now.

#7: Purple Hair

We saw every color of hair imaginable (and even some we could never have imagined) in 2015, but purple was by far the most talked-about hue. Celebrities including Nicole Richie, Katy Perry, and Britney Spears led the trend.

See where purple hair ranks on the Lipstick Index now.

#6: Straight Hair

Although straight-hair mentions earned the trend a spot on this list, looking at the posts themselves tells a slightly different story: Many of the results also contain words like hair vitamins, length check, and healthy hair journey. Others also have mentions of curly hair, natural hair, and relaxed hair. All these tags make us believe the conversation is less around certain hair texture and more around hair health in general.

See where straight hair ranks on the Lipstick Index now.

#5: Short Hair

There's a secret short-hair club on social media. Want to join? Show off your bob, pixie, buzz cut, or lob. Tagging #shorthairdontcare could expedite initiation. OK, not really, but the numbers sure make it seem that way.

See where short hair ranks on the Lipstick Index now.

#4: Contouring

Never did we think we'd use the word contouring so often in our daily lives. Some people loved to show off their face-sculpting chops on Instagram, and others (including many a makeup artist) loved to hate on it. Regardless, everyone was talking about it.

#3: Strobing

Strobing and contouring duked it out for the No. 1 spot on the Index at any given time, but the highlighting technique won out in terms of social media mentions for the year.

What Introverts Love About San Diego

The Pacific Ocean is anything but pacified. The Pacific always wants something: sailors, surfers, lovers, children, my feet, the sun for dinner. The noise—some evenings—is deafening and defying conversation. Yet, its constant roar is the most perfect quiet I have come to know.

I grew up on the East Coast, believing that the sun rose from the cold Atlantic, not ever pondering where it might find itself at the end of a day. Many years later, I would fall in love with a West Coast man who would show me that the sun tucks itself into the Pacific at night—with a green flash as it disappears on the horizon if you’re lucky enough to catch it.

I fell in love with his beautiful busy city—San Diego—which surprised no one but me. San Diegans know they have it good. But how could I fall for this city of extroverts, bronzed and glowing, always out and about?

Freeways, jammed. Restaurants, packed. Beaches, full.

Except at sunset.

Sunset is when the introverts come out to play in San Diego. The crowds are long gone, and the sand has gone cool underfoot. I love this time of day at the city’s beaches. I never know whom or what I’ll see. Children, lingering in the chilly surf. Couples on vacation. Photographers like me. Fading words in the sand. Ruby red feathered seaweed. A heart-shaped stone.

The real gift is the sunset itself. In San Diego, the sun never sets the same way twice. The sky can turn from flame to pastel pink to violet-gray in 20 minutes. Sometimes, the sky is painted with clouds. Sometimes, like tonight, the sky is cloudless and hazy: a straightforward sunset, no frills or fancy shows.

I feel small beside this ocean. I like this feeling—I like to know my place in the world, especially here, in this strange, bright, and smiling city. My place here is at the edge of the city, where it feels much like the edge of the world.

7 Myths About Shampoo You Need to Stop Believing

You've probably been washing your own hair for decades by now, right? You'd think you--and the other few billions of people on this planet--would have it down pat, but a Google search of "how often should I shampoo" yields more than 13 million results. Couple that with all the recent shampooing trends (read: co-washing, no-pooing), and suddenly, sudsing up is no longer child's play. That's why we asked top stylists (and one scalp expert!) to list the biggest myths about shampoo they wish people would stop believing.

Myth: You should wash your hair every day. "For the most part, washing your hair every day is not great. Washing daily produces more oil, and the hair gets even oilier, faster. People think that daily washing would help, but it actually has an adverse effect. Washing two or three times a week is good." --Teddy Charles, a hairstylist who works with Amber Heard and Taylor Swift

Myth: Shampooing will increase shedding. "When you shampoo, all that sheds is what was supposed to shed that day (about 50 to 100 hairs). If you don't brush regularly, it may seem like more." --Francesca Fusco, a dermatologist and scalp expert in New York City

Myth: You should follow the instructions on the bottle and shampoo twice."This is completely false unless you have a big buildup of product or dry shampoo in your hair." --Fusco

Myth: You should never use conditioner because it weighs your hair down. "The truth is there are many different types of conditioners on the market. You just need to know which one is best for your hair. For example, if you have fine hair and want volume, my go to would be Matrix Biolage Volumebloom Shampoo and Conditioner. For color-treated hair, I love Matrix Biolage Colorlast Shampoo and Conditioner." --Nick Stenson, a hairstylist who works with Shay Mitchell and Rumer Willis

Myth: You should always use shampoo and conditioner that match. "You can cocktail them. I'll use color-treating shampoo with volumizing conditioners for fine-haired redheads, or I'll use a smoothing shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner for thick, unruly, curly hair." --Matt Fugate, a hairstylist who works with Karlie Kloss and Cheryl Burke

Myth: You should always use shampoo before you use conditioner. "You can reverse shampoo on days you want volume. Condition your ends for shine and health, then rinse, and then shampoo your roots for volume. Team that with a cold rinse to lock down the cuticles, and your hair is clean, shiny, and full of life." --Fugate

Myth: You need to shampoo curly hair. "For thicker, curly, and coarser hair types, try co-washing, which is washing your hair with just conditioner. Curly hair tends to be drier, so you want to refrain from removing the natural oils from the scalp and hair. Try a product like Carol's Daughter Hair Milk Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner. It gently cleanses the hair and removes product buildup." --Lacy Redway, a hairstylist who works with Lupita Nyong'o and Maya Rudolph
