5 Real Life Ways to Rock White Eyeliner

By ARDEN FANNING

While eyeliner tends to be associated with dark, smoky looks, lately it seems the pencil is lightening up. At Stella McCartney's Fall 2016 show, Pat McGrath edged ivory highlighter into the corners of models' eyes for an angelic, wedding-ready effect. At 3.1 Phillip Lim, makeup artist Francelle Daly painted white clay onto models' bottom lashes to quietly cool effect. And this spring, an army of white eyeliners is turning up from brands across the board, in part due to the influence of K-pop, in which the look is an absolute staple. But while it may appear great on the runway, how does an alabaster eye pencil translate into real life?

To help demystify the tool, we turned to Daly, who says the color (or lack thereof) has plenty of clever everyday applications. "It's great because it gives an instant lift to eyes, and it's just a fun thing to wear," she explains. Here, five tricks she recommends for ghosting your eye makeup this spring.

How to Transition From a Beard to Shaving Daily

2016-04-06-1459987021-8331095-Beardedmanlookingatrazorforweb.jpg

I know a lot of guys who hit 35-45 years old, get some grey in the beard, and shave the whole thing off. After 20-plus years with a beard, that's a pretty big difference in grooming practices!

Many of these men shocked their wives and children by shaving it off as soon as the grey hairs started taking over.

For me, it was my dad's mustache. For my wife, it was her dad's full beard. In both cases, the response was, "Who are you?" And then, "Oh, you look about 15 years younger."

It's just a fact of life that many men, even those loyal to their beards for 20-plus years, do not wish to be prematurely aged by the elimination of pigment from their beard hairs.

We are big on the importance of appearance and first impressions at Liberty Premium Grooming Co., and so I get it that some men believe they look and feel more youthful without a beard when they hit their late 30s or 40s.

Before I go on, I do feel compelled to tell you that grey in the beard is not the end of the world, and that it can add a distinguished, powerful look when groomed properly.

I think many men are turned off because their beard is looking a little tired as a whole, and the grey addition to that tired beard puts them over the edge.

If you're not quite sure about shaving it off, attempt to upgrade your grooming game before you commit to the shaved face.

However, if you've seen the grey and know you can't possibly go on, the least we can do is make sure you're making the transition with the least amount of discomfort.

1. Take It Slow

The moment of action has arrived. You're going to want to do this in a slow, civilized manner.

If your beard has any length to it, it's helpful to first use shears to remove the bulk of the beard.

A secret benefit of doing things slowly and methodically with a nice pair of shears is that you can experiment with shorter, or different, styles.

And perhaps you'll end up loving one of those styles.

However, the main benefit is to reduce the load on your other tools, and to reduce the potential for pain.

Once you've trimmed the bulk of your beard, grab your beard trimmer.

With the shortest guard setting, trim the remaining beard down to stubble.

Now you're a lot closer to a normal few days of beard growth, which means it's time to shave.

2. Get The Right Tools

It's time to trade in the beard trimmer, oil, balm, brush, comb, and mustache wax for the equivalent high-quality shaving instruments.

Razor

You've got a choice here, but treat yourself to a meaningful shaving experience by going with something classic that forces you to pay attention and to take your time.

My grandfather once told me that you can't rush a good cigar.

It forces you to slow down.

And in that time, what else are you to do, other than make the most of it by being present, enjoying life, and engaging in some introspection?

Similarly, wet shaving forces you to slow down.

So, choose a nice double edge razor to get you started.

Blades

Naturally, your shave is only going to be as good as your blade. Don't cut corners here.

The OneBlade, a $300 custom engineered razor, uses Feather blades. They spent many thousands of dollars researching and trying to create the perfect blade, yet decided simply to partner with Feather. Speaks volumes to the quality of the blade.

Cream/Soap

Whether you use shaving cream or soap is a matter of personal preference.

The differences are subtle, and both will do the job. Just make sure you take the time to get a nice lather.

Soap is more firm and will take more effort to work into a lather. Soaps may have a wider range of scents, but they are typically less fragrant than creams.

Cream will lather more quickly, and it provides a bit more protection or padding to your shave, although the differences are minimal.

Brush

In order to lather up your shaving soap or cream, you'll need a brush.

Choose a boar bristle or badger brush if you're looking for a high quality natural option.
I prefer using natural products if the option exists. In fact, we chose boar hair for our beard brush.

Aftershave

Here's something that will seem a little more natural to bearded men.

The main types are balm and splash.

Think about them like the difference between beard balm and beard oil.

Balm is thicker and better for helping reduce irritation, while giving more moisturization. Splash is much like beard oil, which is more "watery", if you will. They're great for that crisp, clean feeling, and can help to protect the skin with antiseptic and or antibacterial properties.

3. Learn How To Wet Shave

You know that proper beard grooming requires a routine -- often a daily one.

It will be no different here.

In case you couldn't guess, the recommendation is to opt for wet shaving, instead of what society now calls "shaving". By that I mean using a 73 blade bit of plastic with some unsatisfying blue goo for lubrication.

Wet shaving, as we've discussed already, requires a routine, and it requires you to slow down and be present.

And here's a bonus -- you'll also get a much better shave.

If you've had a beard for years, there is no way you want to be dragging a multi-blade cartridge razor against the newly-sensitive skin of your face.

If you come at it with poor quality tools and a bad technique, you'll be cursing the razor burn and cuts that now adorn your beardless face. You might even start to wonder about growing that beard back.

Youtube is the best resource to learn, as it's much easier to see than to read how to do it!

4. Skin Care Becomes A Thing Again

Just as you likely used beard balms or oils in your beard to keep it healthy, strong, and shiny, it is essential to care for your skin, now that your beard has been laid to rest.

You wanted to look younger and better, right? Don't neglect taking care of the skin on your face.

The essentials are washing and moisturizing daily.

Use a wash cloth or a cleansing sponge with or without a cleanser to keep your face clean, and then apply some moisturizer, similarly to putting oil or balm on your beard.

Top 4 Reasons Hiring a Professional Photographer for Your Wedding Is the Best Decision You Can Make

$
0
0
Tying the knot is one of the most exciting and life-changing decisions you'll make in your lifetime. And since your hope when settling down is to get married only to one partner, then it's safe to assume that you want the ceremony to be as special and memorable as possible. In the kind of economy we live in nowadays, couples looking to say "I do" surely want to have a one-of-a-kind and unforgettable wedding, but not willing to break the bank for it to happen. So what they do is opt for the money-saving alternatives of some wedding services to cut costs.

One of the best and realistic example for this is when couples decide to have a favorite family member or a friend take the wedding photographs instead of hiring a professional to do the job. You think it's a wise decision given how many "experts" suggest it. However, as someone who had personally witnessed the fails of an amateur friend photographer (I saw it all from a dear friend's wedding), I'd say that getting your "budding photographer" friend to take your wedding photos is a recipe for disaster and it's something you don't want to learn the hard way. But if you still need convincing, here are four compelling reasons to hire a professional wedding photographer as opposed to your budding photographer friend.

1. Commitment

Professionals are bound by a legal contract, so they're guaranteed to show up on your big day, no matter what the weather is. They can't flake out on you like a friend (and they won't) because they're obligated by the contract to be there unless you say otherwise. In case of emergencies, they're sure to have someone who's also a professional to come as their replacement.

2. Experience

Professionals have spent thousands of hours photographing weddings. They know how to sneak a shot of the bride and groom's mothers looking at the couples with tears in their eyes. They know when the bride will pull that blissful smile in her face. They know when to take a shot of the groom looking at her with so much love and overflowing excitement. They know how to get the best shots even in tricky lighting. They're capable of all these because they've got more than enough experience with weddings -- something your "budding photographer" friend obviously don't have.

3. Outstanding Results

Professionals photograph weddings for a living, so you can be assured that they'll strive to give you the best results to make you satisfied and recommend them to your friends and family members. It's a motivation that your friend with a good camera won't have.

4. Assurance

Professionals have seen the worst and are prepared for it. They have a backup camera, batteries, and memory cards with them so in case something happens with the gear they're currently using, they won't miss taking photos of any important part of your wedding. Knowing this can help you feel assured and excited at the same time because you know you have awesome photographs to look forward to.

If you're looking to save as much money as you can for your big day, you can always spend less on other wedding services. Don't sacrifice your wedding photographs because at the end of your wedding day, the food and flowers will all be gone but your wedding photographs will remain. They'll be your enduring proof of one of the most important events that took place in your life so you want to get them right the first time.

Today's Proms Are As Elaborate And Costly As A Small Wedding

2016-04-03-1459723713-659521-image.png

PROM SEASON is upon us. It's that time of year when mothers all over the country will go out and purchase dresses for their daughters that cost more than their own wedding gowns, rent tuxes for their sons that cost more than Dad and all his Groomsmen combined, and then top it off by spending more money on food, flowers and limousines than was spent on their own wedding in its entirety...

Face it folks. These days, Prom feels like a small dry-run-practice-wedding you throw for your high schooler.

Like all blessed events, it begins with the "PROMPOSAL." We actually had TWO at our house yesterday. The first one was a promposal my son made to ME, and the second was the promposal he made to his girlfriend. They were both propositions, but that's where the similarities begin and end...

The First PROMPOSAL:

No sooner had my son walked out of his 7th hour class at Hoity-Toity Catholic High School, than I received this phone call:

"On behalf of the entire 2016 Senior Graduating Class of HTCHS, I'm formally requesting the use of our home and surrounding property for this year's After-Prom Party."

When I told him, "No way -- Not happening," he seemed almost flummoxed, as if he couldn't fathom why not. I patiently started to help my boy connect the dots, leading with the two most obvious deterrents, "liability issues" and "property damage." Waving off my concerns, he assured me that, "Nothing bad is going to happen!" (Ahhh ... the optimism of youth -- and of people who've never actually owned anything.) When I informed him that we simply couldn't afford the risk, he countered with,

"Why do you and Dad always go straight to, "worst case scenario?" I don't really have an answer for that. I guess we are the Landed Gentry around here and we don't much trust The Peasantry.

As he began to concede defeat, he opted for one last persuasive point,

"I think you and Dad are full of crap, constantly citing 'liability issues!' In my entire life I've never heard about one of these tragic incidences that you two are constantly referencing!"

Just to re-cap: In my son's vast 18 years of interviewing folks about matters such as this, he's "never heard of one tragic incident," as though he's been out and about collecting relevant data on Homeowners' Liability his entire life. He thinks he's "Jake-From-State-Farm," I see him more as "Mayhem."

The Second PROMPOSAL:

Fortunately, the second promposal my son tendered had a more positive outcome. After quite a bit of effort, he got a "yes!" My friends and I have been simply astonished at the sheer amount of ingenuity our sons put into asking their girlfriends to The Prom these days. So much has changed since 1981, when my Boyfriend-turned-Husband said to me,

"You don't wanna go to that do you?"

My son enlisted the help of several close friends who collaborated with him on an elaborate scavenger hunt. It started with a clue in his girlfriend's room and after several more clever clues placed at key locations throughout our town, it culminated with him standing in the drive-through window at a local fast-food restaurant holding a glittered sign that said, "Will You Go To Prom With Me?" It was just adorable -- as if anyone could say no to him.

In fact, the whole thing got me to thinking ... maybe if he'd gone to a little more effort with me earlier, I might've agreed to the bash he wants to host at my house for 100-200 of his nearest and dearest. Perhaps instead of a stream of marginally persuasive rhetoric, he should've coordinated a Scavenger Hunt for his mom that ended with him holding a sign up with sweet and endearing pictures of the two of us, that said,

DO YOU WANT TO HOST AFTER-PROM WITH ME?

Moms like glitter and effort too ... I might've said, "I Do!"

Does it ever take a two-person team to get your shoes on before a big night out? Probably not, but if you're Kendall Jenner, it's just par for the course.

On Saturday, the supermodel stepped onto the red carpet for the MTV Movie Awards (which air Sunday) in a black lace-up dress and some pretty badass DSquared2 sandals.

While Jenner's footwear looked great, it did cause a series of problems throughout the night. Not only did it take a few assistants to help her get into the shoes, but later on, Jenner's BFF, Gigi Hadid, took to Snapchat to show how the model's laces were getting all tangled as the duo tried to get on the elevator.

Kylie Jenner makes bold sartorial statements pretty much every day. Now, she's got an equally bold statement about her look to match.

The 18-year-old opened up to Marie Claire as one of its five "Fresh Faces 2016" May cover stars, along with Ellie Goulding, Zendaya, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Hailey Baldwin.

Jenner, whose hair ranges drastically in length and color thanks in part to a hefty collection of wigs, had us scratching our own heads when she explained her influence to the magazine.

"I started wigs, and now everyone is wearing wigs. Kim [Kardashian] just used my wig guy last night … I just do whatever I want to do, and people will follow.”

There's no denying Jenner's social influence. Her now beloved lip kits sell out in mere minutes and she boasts the title of most viewed account on Snapchat. But let's get something straight, Kylie. You did not "start wigs."

5 Things to Ask the Next Person Who Calls Your Natural Hair 'Unprofessional'

$
0
0
In the latest case of hair related workplace discrimination, a Zara employee was humiliated when co workers tried to 'fix' her natural hair because it was deemed 'unprofessional' and decided to file a complaint.

Bravo sis! Enough is enough. We become so accustomed to the constraints and mandates of Eurocentric beauty standards that nine times out of ten we won't even question them. We straighten our hair. We put in tight braids. We loosen our buns. We pat down our curls. We cut off our locs. And for what? A paycheck?

Don't get me wrong. As a mother of two looking for a house and trying to get a car with her fiancé, I know all too well the urgency of pay day when those bills are rolling in the same time every month. But what are we willing to lose to keep them paid? We should NEVER be in a position where we have to choose between groceries and our identity whether we are spiritually connected to our roots or we just prefer the look of our natural hair.

In light of this and countless other cases of black women and men being denied their dignity and educational or professional opportunities as a direct result of their unapologetic black aesthetic, I've compiled a list of questions that I hope can open up an honest dialogue between people about why we feel the way we feel about certain hair in the workplace. We need to get to the truth in order to change the tide.

1. Does it make any sense that my hair is part of the conversation at work?
I've often heard the excuse that natural hair is somehow 'distracting.' I want to make it very plain that this is indeed an excuse. Any time I have ever been intrigued, amused or taken aback by someone's appearance- I either comment on it or don't- usually to myself- and I move along with my day. I am not suddenly crippled at the sight of a brightly colored Mohawk, a barely there skirt, a particularly interesting fabric or even a tee that reads 'Breathe easy. Obey the law,' in response to the phrase 'I can't breathe' becoming a rallying cry after the murder of Eric Garner.

If I can deal with that without jeopardizing the livelihood or employment of my fellow man, why is it so easy for employers and educational institutions to strip people like me of their means of taking care of their families on the basis of hair texture and style?

2. Do you feel like it's fair that one group's aesthetic is the measure by which all others are judged in the workplace?
It's very important to understand that genetics matter. We talk a lot about culture and how we identify and that is crucial in understanding our fellow man but sometimes folks can't handle your cultural competence when they have no interest in knowing you beyond a face and a name. That's when you have to get practical with them.

I was recently exposed to a line of thinking that could make a lot of people understand what we already know about our tresses at a symposium on black hair and the law hosted by the center for law and Justice at Medgar Evers college.

How did one become the standard of 'professionalism' and what does it mean for the others?

3. Do you realize we could be wearing the same exact style and they would look completely different?
When a child with naturally straight hair wears two ponytails for example, the hair hangs downward naturally. When a child with naturally curly hair wears ponytails they reach outward and upward. Notice we call the same style two different things on people of different ethnicities. They rock ponytails. We rock Afro puffs. Same hair style. Completely different finished products. Who decided one looked better, or more professional and appropriate than the other?

4. How would you feel if something you were born with was deemed unacceptable?
In keeping with the logical approach- because so many people have been conditioned to tune you out the minute you start talking about inequality- the simple fact is that our hair grows how it grows. There are methods available to change it but we should not HAVE to. What if fair skin was deemed inappropriate for work? Or blue eyes? Our natural hair is just as common place for us as those traits are for others.

How crazy would it be to hear someone say 'I'm sorry Beth, but your skin is just too fair. It's really not what we're looking for here so if you want the job you're going to have to tan it up. You know. Make yourself more presentable.' The way our hair is spoken about is just as ridiculous.

5. What exactly about this style/ texture is 'unprofessional?'
Let's get specific. People love to throw words like 'inappropriate' and 'unprofessional' around as it relates to black hair but it's an automated response generated by years of inequity disguised as 'the way things are.'

Make no mistake someone purposefully made things this way and it's our job to challenge and ultimately change this view of natural hair as unkempt by rocking it unashamedly wherever we may be, by challenging the systems that try to keep us from doing so and by creating spaces where no one can tell us how to present ourselves because WE are running the show.

When other people wear their hair in tight curls, braids and twists or utilize other styles and looks created and worn for years in communities of color it is never frowned upon. In fact they are often applauded as chic, trendy and trailblazing as though cornrows (not to be confused with 'boxer braids' or 'Kim Kardashian West' braids) fell out of the sky and onto the heads of Wypipo by the grace of benevolent White Jesus.

Nah, b.

Yall got everything from baby hair, lavish fingernail decor, wearing Tims and Northface coats for fashion and 'marble' hair ties to tribal and African print, indigenous headdress, love for big behinds and full lips and the glorious Bantu knot from us. Not Bjork. Not Marc Jacobs. Blaqpipo.

The irony of being forced to change our aesthetic to be deemed 'professional' 'acceptable' or 'appropriate' in the workplace as trends that started in our communities walk down runways and grace the pages of international publications across the globe attached to fair skin, slim bodies and straight hair could not be any clearer.

So the next time your acquaintance, friend, relative, boss or a well meaning but ill informed passer by decides to question the validity of your hair in its natural state or an ethnic style, pop quiz their ass on when exactly they became infected with white supremacy.

You could save a life.

Women Tell Men Everything They Need To Know About Pedicures

If you've never had a pedicure, there are a few things you probably don't know. For example, you might not know that you get a quick massage during said pedicure, and that contrary to popular belief, they're not a women-only experience.

The main purpose of a pedicure is to treat yourself, relax and walk away with a good-looking (and feeling) pair of feet -- something you probably need this time of year.

In an effort to get all men on board with pedicures, we at The Huffington Post asked the women we know to dish everything they know about what to expect at a pedicure.

Men, it's sandal season. Go forth and treat your feet with this expert advice.

1. Get your feet together before you go.

Because "nobody wants to work on crusty feet," soak yours for a few minutes in hot water to soften your skin before you head out the door.

2. Make sure it's a safe pedicure place.

When picking out your pedicure spot, pick one that is very sanitized -- use our handy checklist here to make sure yours is clean. If you don't, you could end up at the doctor's office.

3. Use the spa chair.

"You must go to a place with a spa chair. Do not opt for anything else." And by spa chair, we mean massage chair. You're welcome.

3. Wear sandals.

Whether they're flip-flops, Birkenstocks, shower sandals or Tevas, don't go to the pedicurist in closed-toe shoes. The salon can provide you with paper sandals at the end of your treatment, but "you don't want to deal with those."

4. You get what you pay for.

"If you go to a place that gives you a $15 pedicure, the experience and results will probably suck. And the joy that is getting a pedicure will be lost on you entirely."

5. Some things are worth paying more for.

"Foot massage time, callus removal or a deep, exfoliating scrub to get rid of dead skin."

6. Some things are not worth paying more for.

"Scented or fancy water with essential oils or flowers, more lotions for your feet or legs, parafin wax."

7. Wear shorts, or at least loose-legged pants.

"Make sure you wear shorts or pants that can be easily rolled up over your knees! At some point, the pedicurist will want to roll up your pants and massage your calves with lotion, and if you're wearing skinny jeans it can be a little bit of a nightmare."

8. Yes, a pedicure will tickle.

"But only for like 2 seconds, so just deal."

Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge Just Wore The Fanciest Crop Top Ever

For us, the word "coordinates" conjures up images of Taylor Swift and her "squad." Now it looks like they might have a new member to initiate into the group.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in quite a fancy Temperley London crop top and long skirt Monday night for a garden party in New Delhi celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday.

Pairing the look with a half-updo and strappy sandals, the royal formerly known as Kate Middleton proved not only that wearing a crop top doesn't necessarily mean baring the midriff but also that crop tops can be downright sophisticated and glamorous.

As of Monday morning, the top and skirt are still in stock in some sizes on Temperley's website -- but will set you back upwards of $4,000 for the set.

Earlier in the day, Kate looked lovely (albeit a bit flustered) for a slew of engagements in an Emilia Wickstead crepe dress that wouldn't quite stay in place in the wind.

Sigh. Taylor Swift and Kate teaming up is the stuff our "Wildest Dreams" are made of.

13 Stylish Hijabis You Have To Follow

A couple of days ago I was trying to convince my friend Tesneem to make her Instagram public so that everyone would be blessed with her stylish outfits. When she finally did, I shared her posts on Twitter. Hijabis and non-hijabis alike started sending me their favorite hijabi fashionistas and this list was born.

1. Tesneem ElAbed

MA

A photo posted by tē (@tesneem_el) on

Tesneem's style is a favorite of mine, street chic. Whether she's rocking high top sneakers or high heels with an outfit, she looks like she just walked away from a show during New York Fashion Week. She's studying interior design in Newark, easily channeling her atmosphere into her fashion.

2. Nuha El-Quesny

{ #FW16 } Hello New York City, you were not kind today❄️ #freezing #whyyougottabesorude

A photo posted by Nuha (@devotedlyyours) on

Nuha does something that I have yet to see anyone else perfect. She can wear white and splashes of color together in effortless, simple styles. She's a Youtube Vlogger who often includes her two young children in her videos, and they adorably rock their own unique styles too. Nuha's the hijabi, mom fashionista you didn't know you needed.

3. Aaliyah Sade

Aaliyah's style is simple, but powerful. Not many of us can rock hats, glasses, or big earrings with our hijabs, but she makes it seem as though you need these pieces to complete the hijabi outfit. She just launched a blog called #BossMuslimahs , and just like Aaliyah's style, it's pretty boss.

4. Saufeeya B. Goodson

#feeeeya

A photo posted by Saufeeya B. Goodson (@feeeeya) on

Saufeeyah is one of the most famous and one of the first stylish hijabis to take Instagram by storm, boasting over 178K followers. Her classy outfits range from abayas (loose fitting robes) and capes, to skirts and sweaters, each one bolder than the next.

5. Yaz the Spaz

Yaz's style is great for anyone who's into fierce and energetic looks. She's a make-up artist and stylist out of Miami and her outfits integrate the state's energy. Whether she's wearing patterns from head-head to toe or color blocking, one thing is for certain, her makeup and outfit complement each other perfectly.

6. Tanja Ayesha

Tanja is another favorite of mine. Hailing from Denmark, she perfects the minimalist, hijabi outfit. If you thought jeans were out of style, she'll make you want to wear denim from head to toe. She runs a store called Tanyesha London, where you can find the hijabs she styles with her outfits.

7. Maryam A

Here's the full look ft @coveredbliss in their 'Golden Sunset' skirt! ✨

A photo posted by Maryam (@sincerelymaryam) on

Maryam's style is trendy and powerful. I love the way she styles her watches, handbags, and belts with her clothes. If you're looking for a way to go casual with a pair of heels, she's the fashionista to copy.

8. Sabina Hannan

2nd Birthday outfit

A photo posted by S A B I N A H A N N A N (@sabinahannan) on

Sabina's outfits are elegantly simple, but it's her makeup that's the real winner here. Non-hijabis and hijabis can both benefit from her makeup tutorials on Youtube, where she shows us all how to get the powerful look she has perfectly mastered.

9. Saraswati

"Have courage and be kind." . Cinderella inspired look. Requested by @bridgeteahl for her five year old baby sis. . . #cinderella #cendrillon #aschenputtel #disneyprincess #disney #hijabidisneyprincess #brothersgrimm #cosplay #disneycosplay #muamalaysia #malaysianmakeupartist #sigmabeauty #makeithappen #maybelline #makeuprevolution #queenofluna . . Products used: @sigmabeauty - Legend line ace liquid liner - Sigma pink power stick (lipstick) - Sigma pink aura powder All brushes are #Sigmabrushes @urbandecaycosmetics Naked eyeshadow palette @makeuprevolution - Vivid baked highlighter in golden lights - Conceal and Cover palette @maybelline - Clear smooth BB cream - Hyper curl mascara - Clear smooth pressed powder in nude beige

A photo posted by s ѧ я ѧ s ա ѧ t ɨ (@queenofluna) on

Saraswati isn't your everyday hijabi, but she's still very stylish. As a fangirl myself, I'm still geeking out at the way she can use her hijab and makeup to transform into comic book and Disney characters. Needless to say, I'm gonna have to step my game up the next time I cosplay. The best part? She does all the characters, male and female.

10. Maria Alia

New outfit ft. oversized camo up at mariaalia.com ~ shop the look there or with @liketoknow.it. www.liketk.it/1XmOz

A photo posted by ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀M A R I A (@mariaalia) on

Maria is probably the coolest fashionista on the list. Her style is a mix of edgy casual. If you're like me and can't wear a hijab and sneakers without them clashing, she's the person to follow. Maria's as hip hijabi as they get.

11. Sahar Foad

No one is YOU and that's your super power. ✨

A photo posted by Sahar Foad (@saharfoad) on

Sahar is a civil engineer from Egypt, and she definitely brings the country's vibe into her outfits. She easily stuns in both the turban and full head-veil, so if you rock both, she's got you covered. My favorite thing about her? Her accessories (especially her necklaces) are perfect additions to her outfits.

12. Ruma Begum

JUST LAUNCHED! THE GOLDEN ROYAUTÉ Get a 10% discount by using 'RUMA10' @dubaifeminafashion

A photo posted by ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀R U M A | B E G U M (@rumastyles) on

Ruma is a fashionista from Detroit who rocks the most beautiful dresses. They're often bright, have different patterns, and are very eye-catching. The best part? Most of them are the types of dresses you can wear on a night out or to a formal event. Any way she wears them, Ruma will have you envying her style.

13. Ruba Zai

Ruba's style seems to have a motto for itself - "Make a statement.", and that's exactly what it does. She's another edgy fashionista on here, and perfects the hijabi street fashion look. Plus, she posts a lot of great photos of food, and even they are stylish.

Rock on hijabis, rock on.

Being Kylie Jenner Is Exhausting

At this point, it doesn't matter how many millions of people follow Kylie Jenner on Instagram or Snapchat -- but let's just say it's a lot.

Certainly, more people follow Jenner than tune into her family's reality series, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," and it's one of the reasons why she's a social media queen first and a reality star second.

And while she appears to almost literally live on Snapchat, the 18-year-old told Adweek she's probably only on the app for "10 minutes altogether throughout the day" and claims her followers aren't really seeing the the real Kylie Jenner.

"You can't really tell who a person is from, like, an eight-second Snapchat video or an Instagram. I only post on Instagram or Snapchat what I want people to see, you know?" she told the magazine for its Millennial Issue. "But there's a whole other side to me that people don't know."

A photo posted by King Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

So who is the real Kylie Jenner?

"I feel like people want to see me have a cool hair color and dress a certain way and have pretty makeup and heels. If they were to see me in public, they would expect me to look like that. It's also fun for me, dressing up. That's always been me, since day one, but it's also exhausting for everyday life."

Go follow @kimmysnapchats

A photo posted by Kylie Jenner Snapchats (@kylizzlesnapchats) on

Exhausting is the perfect word to describe it. Although she only spends 10 minutes of her day on Snapchat, she clearly spends a lot more time and effort creating the camera-ready persona she shares with her followers. Cosmopolitan writer Brooke Shunatona seemed to come to the same conclusion when she tried to live like Jenner for a week this past October, and found that after attempting to recreate her beauty routine, outfits, and lifestyle for seven days, she was "pretty drained by the end." Likewise, BuzzFeed staffer Lara Parker tried to recreate Jenner's Instagram photos this past week and decided that it "wasn't very fun."

A photo posted by King Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

So, to sum it up, Kylie Jenner is working harder than you think.

Perfection no longer my Achilles' Heel

$

It has taken me 37 years to accept that I will never be perfect. Although I don't quite remember when I started creating unrealistic expectations for myself, I am sure it was at a very young age.

I've never felt the need to compare myself to others; my worst enemy and rival was the person staring back at me in the mirror.

My house had to be spotless. My sons' had to be perfectly groomed and well-mannered in public. I aimed for a 4.0 throughout my entire college career. My hair and make-up had to be flawless. My high heels perfectly matched my purse, which perfectly matched my jewelry.

My job performance was impeccable. I never called off, unless it was a life or death situation. Many of my former colleagues were intimidated by me, as they assumed I wanted their positions. Little did they know, I only wanted the job I was hired for, which became progressively stressful once my taxing gift of perfectionism took over.

This standard of perfection only grew worse as I grew older.

I think it was those darned fairy tales that I read as a little girl that always ended 'happily ever after' that shaped my expectations for life, family and success.

I wanted to be the perfect wife. But I fall short of that mark every day. I wanted to be the perfect mom, but I am sure that I fail daily.

Thankfully, my struggle with perfection no longer has power over me.
After all, I have learned that the only benchmark I should measure myself by is with God's standard of unconditional love.

My love for my family is immeasurable, without question.

It was my lack of unconditional love for myself that kept me in a cycle of emotional fatigue and self-criticism. I needed to see myself, as I see others, through the eyes of a perfect God.

I had to teach myself how to love myself.

I can now embrace my failures. Accept my flaws. Learn from my mistakes. Admire my body. Celebrate my victories. Set realistic expectations. Know my limits. And say "no," without regret.

I no longer fear what house guests might think of me if they showed up to my home unannounced when it is less-than "Open House" ready.

I am no longer overcome with guilt if dinner is not on the perfectly-set table by 5 p.m.

I no longer entertain emotions that make me feel less-than a good mom when I occasionally work on my laptop while watching Caillou with my four-year-old.

I realize, that my ideal view of life wasn't what others imposed on me. It was my own lack of appreciation for who I was that created a fantasy of who I will never be.

I have come to recognize and accept that I will never be the crafty mom who can sew tutus and crotchet baby blankets. Or the sports mom who can yell out every play on the football field. Neither will I be the wife who is defined by women portrayed in Hollywood and romance novels.

Never again will I measure my self-worth by the impossible standard of perfection that I will never be able to attain. And I am perfectly OK with that.

10 Beauty Hacks That REALLY Work

$

I have always been a seeker of information and a collector of ideas. For most of my life it has been my habit to amass as many lifestyle and fashion magazines as possible. Even at the age of twelve I devoured them. As a teen I spent hours sitting on my bed with a notebook and pen, writing every tip and noteworthy suggestion I could gather. Some ideas were a success, while others drove my mother crazy. I learned quickly that half a jar of mayonnaise is not the best hair conditioner. However, I was on a quest.

To this day I still love helpful hacks and beauty products. Equally, I love great design and I am a marketer's dream. So, when that "must have" product comes in a great package, I am among the first to whip out my wallet. And I am a complete sucker for anything that comes in apothecary jar or a clinical-looking box.

That said, I do have a slightly frugal and sensible side to my personality, which may explain why I love hacks. Some hacks really are fantastic and make life a bit easier, but many don't seem worth the effort. Here are ten favorite tricks and tips that I have used for years that truly make a big difference, and take very little effort.

2016-04-10-1460317719-8605117-Castor_oil.jpg

Castor Oil
Patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to waiting on eyebrows to grow out. Sadly, I feel victim to an overzealous eyebrow threader. After reading about the benefits of castor oil and hair growth, I decided to give it a try. Apply castor oil to the brows with a cotton swab before bed each night to encourage new growth and strengthen the hairs. It works wonders.

2016-04-10-1460317909-2302507-728pxUseEyeDropstoKeepMascarafromDryingOutStep3.jpg

Eye Drops or Saline Solution
Most people know that mascara should be tossed after three months (beyond that timeframe it can collect bacteria). However, if your mascara becomes a bit dry within the three-month window, revive it with a couple of drops of saline solution or eye drops. Adding a few drops to flaky mascara will make it moist again.

2016-04-10-1460318002-2760610-Usedteabagse1337848644710.jpg
Tea Bags
The quickest way to de-puff and tighten the skin under the eyes is to apply cold tea bags to the eyes for 5 minutes. Simply steep two tea bags in warm water for 2-3 minutes, remove from water, store tea bags in the refrigerator for 20 minutes, then place them on the eyes. Most days I drink green tea and save the used tea bags in the refrigerator until needed.

2016-04-10-1460318134-522910-trimunhieuqua6054128872.jpg

Baking Soda
Baking soda is likely one of the most versatile items found in your pantry. It is an excellent and natural exfoliant that softens the skin, allowing for a cleaner face. Simply mix a very small sprinkling in the palm of your hand, mix with your cleanser and gently wash away. It's also a favorite of Emma Stone.

2016-04-10-1460318195-1772778-01301_radiantlifecoconutoil_spoonful.jpg

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is one product that I cannot live with out. I don't step out of the shower without bathing in coconut oil. Coconut oil is more easily absorbed when your skin is still warm and supple from a bath or shower. Not only is it a great body lotion, it's also an amazing cuticle oil and lip balm.

2016-04-10-1460318249-4485480-Original_BrianPatrickFlynn_FishSoapPrize_PrepBowlBags_002.jpg.rend_.hgtvcom.616.462.jpeg

Ice Water
Make your nail polish dry faster by soaking your nails in ice water after polishing. Fill a bowl with ice and water, and soak nails for a few minutes after polishing. The cold water will set the polish and help them dry faster.

2016-04-10-1460318348-8583309-IMG_6503.jpg

Lemons
Every morning I drink lemon juice and warm water to jumpstart my day. Drinking the tangy concoction first thing in the morning can help flush the digestive system and rehydrate the body.

To reduce the appearance of dark elbows, use leftover lemons in the shower. Simply rub the elbows with half of a lemon and rinse; it works like magic.

2016-04-10-1460318412-5035411-01Vinegar1464.jpg

Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar does wonders for your skin. Not only do I drink warm water and lemon juice each day, I add 3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to 8 ounces of cold water twice a day. Because apple cider vinegar contains a variety of nutrients (vitamins C, A, B1, and B6, potassium, and iron to name a few), drinking it can help to improve psoriasis symptoms. Even better, it's a natural diuretic.

2016-04-10-1460318468-2287403-caliquobrosseadentsvintagefrancaise.jpg

Soft Bristle Toothbrushes
I have tried every lip exfoliant on the market, and nothing beats a soft bristle toothbrush. To remove the flakey skin from your lips, apply a tiny bit of lip balm to a toothbrush and softly brush in a circular motion.

2016-04-10-1460318533-3438150-IMG_0043.JPG

Vaseline
I love Vaseline. It is a multitasking miracle cream that you can use for a slew of timesaving tricks. Here are my two favorite uses:

Apply Vaseline on your pulse points before spraying your perfume to make the scent last longer. Not only will it soften the skin, it will hold the fragrance on your skin all day.

For eyes, place a thin layer of Vaseline under the eyes to lock in moisture and form a protective barrier. A regular application of petroleum jelly to the eyelids at night will banish dry, flaky skin.
