People Are Going Nuts Over Disturbingly Realistic Penis Lipsticks

OK, let’s be clear. These very phallic lipsticks aren’t really a new thing.

They’ve been around since at least 2013, based on Amazon reviews. But after Instagram user prozac_morris posted a photo of them Thursday and BuzzFeed subsequently wrote about them, the veiny products are rearing their glittery heads all over the Internet.

Uhhhhhhhh I love this

Which isn’t really surprising. Like, get a load of these photos (sorry).

Judging by those Amazon reviews, the penis lipsticks -- made by a company called Mushroom -- are actually pretty good quality. The one complaint people seem to have is that they sometimes get squished in transit. And nobody wants a smashed penis.

While they seem like a perfect item for bachelorette parties or similar events, we’re kinda more interested in just whipping these out for everyday use, if only to see the reactions of scandalized passers-by.

But if you’re too afraid of drawing unwanted attention, don’t worry — like any lipstick, we suspect it will lose its shape soon enough. And if it maintains its rigid form for too long, maybe you should call a doctor.

Non-fiction reading in the bag contains Kanye West Owes Me $300: And Other True Stories from A Rapper Who Almost Made It Big, Kate Siegel's Mother Can You Not? based on her popular Instagram account and the memoir, In the Name of Gucci. Plus, there is also the inspirational Find Your Extraordinary.

The books all come in a White Cloud Charter beach bag, that contains a glass water bottle and beauty products such La Pomme's Apple Stem Cell Serum and Madison & Mullholland's own Blue Mirror Aviators among other things.

Reservations for the Hampton Gift Bag are available until Tuesday may 24 on Hamptongiftbag.com.

On Sunday night, singers, actors and other Hollywood big shots flocked to Las Vegas to celebrate the best in music -- but we were really focused on the outfits.

Ciara was sparkly perfection in a silver gown, Meghan Trainor made a case for shoulder pads and Britney Spears was ... Britney Spears, wearing underwear and not much else.

Hurray! MERCURY Retrograde Is Over (May 22): 10 Great Things to Do Immediately!

2016-05-22-1463902687-3006986-MatthewMcCaughney.jpg
Strike up the band and break out the champagne because on May 22nd Mercury retrograde is officially over. The planet Mercury goes "direct." Say hallelujah! The planetary cosmos officially returns your life back to normal.

In the past, I've warned you about the evil plot to make your life go crazy during the three weeks (from April 28 to May 22) when Mercury is retrograde. Now that it's finally over, hopefully some of you took my advice and fared very well. But others of you may have encountered some problems and now have to do a little damage control. If so, I think I can be of help.

In my 35 years of experience as an astrologer, I've found that there are two types of people: those who take Mercury retrograde seriously and those who don't. Be honest: Which group do you belong to?

Regardless, of whether you were a believer or a skeptic, you may have experienced some problems from actions you took during the retrograde period.

Mercury Retrograde Experiences (No Laughing Permitted)

These past three weeks were a horrible time to make purchases, sign agreements and make commitments. Some of you did anyway. One of you wrote me and said, "I was sure the new computer I bought was covered for all defects, which is why I didn't buy the warrantee. I can't believe it broke down a week after I purchased it. Now I'm having a dispute with the store because they say it's my responsibility to pay the cost to repair it."

One of you wrote and said, "Screw Mercury retrograde. I do what I want to do, so I accepted a new job. How was I to know that my boss turned out to be a wolf in lamb's clothing."

Another person took a spontaneous vacation during this time, and confessed that she spent the first half-day of her vacation at the airport "lost and found." Then her challenging vacation continued when she unexpectedly slipped on a banana peel left on the pool deck causing her to hobble for the first three days.

One man ignored my advice not to buy gifts during Mercury retrograde. He found a great sale, and bought his new girlfriend a beautiful dress he was sure she'd love. He didn't know that a wool dress would cause her to itch and breakout in hives. Worse, when he tried to bring the dress back, he was told: "all sales were final."

A friend told me that one of his salespeople said: "Hey...I don't care what this Schwimmer guy says about 'not trying to close a sale during Mercury retrograde.' Nothing stops a great salesman from closing a deal. I think it's just a big coincidence that I haven't closed one sale over these past three weeks."

Hopefully, you've learned a few lessons about how to better navigate through the retrograde period. But the good news is - now that it's over there are some things you should do to take advantage of Mercury being direct.

10 Great Things to Do Immediately!

1. Resolve any miscommunications or arguments. It's not the mistakes you make in life, it's how you clean them up - when you make them. If you've yelled at your child, misspoken to a loved one, or had a heated argument with a colleague or boss, Mercury direct is the perfect time to discuss your differences, apologize and be forgiven (or forgive someone else). You'll have the mental clarity to clearly express yourself and come to a new understanding that will patch up any upsets.

2. Shop 'til you drop. Ok. I don't mean this literarily. But this is the perfect time to reconsider the things you wanted - but didn't buy during Mercury Retrograde. If they make sense now, buy them. You'll realize that some of the items you wanted to purchase really don't suit you, now that you have all your "marbles back." If you're ready to buy that expensive suit you coveted, you may discover that it just went on sale. Or, go ahead and buy that flashy sports car you've been admiring over the past several weeks. When you return to the showroom, you'll find the car salesperson so happy to see you - he'll hug you like you're his rich uncle. After he's given you his best price, you'll purchase your car with the confidence that you're getting a great deal that won't be a "lemon."

3. Assess what you've learned. One of the purposes of Mercury retrograde is to get you to slow down, reflect and re-evaluate all that's going on in your life. If you did - you're now more conscious of changes you can make to improve it. With that in mind, make a list of: people you've had questions about, projects you considered starting, and activities you were contemplating. What have you learned about them that you didn't know three weeks ago? The new knowledge that comes to light will help you make needed changes and more successful decisions.

4. Initiate new (and re-initiate old) contacts. When you meet a new client or even a new love interest during Mercury retrograde, there's a high likelihood of bad timing and miscommunications that could hamper an otherwise promising relationship. For example, going out on new dates is problematic. You find yourself meeting someone you like - who's not quite over their last relationship; or you turn the other person off because you start kvetching about how bad your last marriage was. When I was single, if a friend offered to fix me up with someone new, I always waited to contact that person when Mercury went direct because it was a much more fortuitous time for a successful romantic connection.

5. Re-approach people who turned down your request. Follow-up with that customer that turned you down, during Mercury retrograde, and gave the business to your competitor. You may find out that he's unhappy with the service he's getting and is open to doing business with you. On a personal level, you may find that the spouse who said, "No," to that extravagant "around-the-world cruise" will now say, "Yes."

6. Make important decisions. During the retrograde you were evaluating areas of your life where you needed to make decisions. You may have discovered errors, mistakes and learned some useful information. You now have the facts and are ready to implement your new project; or buy that piece of real estate; or select a new accountant to do your taxes.

7. Accept the job opportunity or start the new job now. Any confusion about your job options is gone. The fog has lifted and your vision is clear. You're now able to evaluate the pros and cons of any employment opportunity and chose the one that will be right for you. When Mercury is direct, it's a positive time to begin a new job because you'll be communicating clearly without any of the confusion that causes misunderstandings between people or bad first impressions.

8. Take your vacation. If you've used the retrograde wisely, rather than book your trip with a travel agent, you held off. Instead, you did your own research, made some inquiries and found some people who've just returned from your holiday destination. They've informed you that the hotel, you chose is not a good choice because it's now under a noisy renovation. You still have time to book the charming villa they recommended. With Mercury direct, you won't experience the usual delays, inconveniences and accidents that occur during the retrograde. You're going to have a wonderful vacation where you can have fun instead of frustration.

9. Search for any lost items. Make a list of any items you've lost recently, or even months, or years ago. Think back to where and when you lost the item. Mentally, you're as sharp as a tack; with a mind so clear you're able to recalls details you had long forgotten. You'll think of new place you've never looked before. Or, you may suddenly remember someone you should call who could help you recover what you've lost.

10. Make a new roommate selection or move in with someone you already know. When you meet new people during the retrograde there is often miscommunication and misunderstanding in the matters you discuss with them. This may include dishonesty. There is something you don't know that you will when Mercury goes direct. Now you can depend on the facts a new roommate gives you. The information you learn about them will be more accurate and reliable. This will help you make a more informed decision about whether you'd be compatible and enjoy living together.

Enjoy this period of sanity when the world is no longer going haywire - that is - until August 30, 2016 when the next Mercury retrograde begins. Until then, get busy. You have some things to do.

Is Botox Safe? Here's What You Need to Know About These Little Needles of Fun

$

0
If you've ever watched an episode of The Real Housewives or flipped through an issue of UsWeekly, you probably know a thing or two about Botox. Celebrities have been using it to prevent aging and lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for years and regular folks have started to incorporate it into their beauty regime, too.

But, Botox has gotten somewhat of a reputation of being dangerous or risky, so a lot of people will avoid it because of the potential toxicity. If you're wondering what the truth about Botox is, read on, since I'm going to break down the dangers of Botox, as well as the benefits, in order to give you some context on the procedure.

How Does It Work?
Essentially, Botox prevents the signal from the nerves to the muscles in your face from going through, which prevents muscles from contracting and stops the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and crow's feet.

How Should I Prepare For The Procedure?
Preparing for Botox is actually very critical to doing it safely. First, you shouldn't take aspirin, St. John's Wort, anti-inflammatory medications, or high doses of Vitamin E one week prior to your appointment- doing so can increase your risk of bleeding and/or bruising. You also shouldn't drink one week before and after your injection, which can lessen the impact of your results.

What Ingredients Are In Botox?
Botox includes the ingredients of Clostridium botulinum type A neurotoxin complex, Albumin Human, and sodium chloride. It's essentially produced using a fermentation process, which gives its ingredients the stunning amount of power they have. Please consult with your doctor to make sure you don't have any conflicting allergies with the ingredients of Botox.

Botox is FDA approved and has been so since 2002, so you don't have to worry about it being unregulated.

Who Should Be Administering It?
In the US, each state has laws around who can administer Botox injections, so make sure to check into your state's laws so that you know what qualifications are required of doctors. However, it's advised that you go to a board certified physician for maximum safety and results, rather than a salon or spa.

What Are The Side Effects?

Side effects include pain at the site of injection, swelling, fatigue, rash, redness, itching, dizziness, fainting.

You can and should take some precautions to lessen your risk of getting side effects, which includes not lying down 3-4 hours after treatment, avoiding contorting or touching your face with your hands (ex: applying makeup) and make sure to also avoid sunbathing or tanning until all redness and swelling have subsided.

Now that you know how to get the procedure safely administered, go forth and get Botox, if you so desire.

Bad news for men who want to wear something that's not blue jeans, denim jackets or oxford shirts this year.

One look through the Instagram feeds of the biggest menswear brands today -- J.Crew, Mango Man, Uniqlo, Banana Republic, Abercrombie & Fitch, Express, Bonobos, Nautica, Gap, Levi's -- and we noticed something: They're all basically the same damn clothes.

Don't get us wrong. We love the looks -- but why can't there just be a little more variety to menswear?

Take the quiz to see what we mean.

Just Say 'No' to the Beach Body Craze

$

Your body is perfect, just as it is. You don't need to lose weight, or tighten up your tummy, or pop out your butt in order to have a perfect beach body. You already have the perfect beach body, and you should feel free to rock whatever swimming attire you feel comfortable in, regardless of your size.

This time of year, there are many fitness regimens, potions, pills, diet plans and supplements being offered to us that claim they will "transform" our already perfect bodies into bodies that are more acceptable to society. But this year, I'm saying "no" to the beach body craze, and so should you!

I'm not saying no to showing my body love through movement each day, or to fueling my body with delicious, healthy foods, or to practicing self-care like bubble baths and massages and face masks. I'm just saying no to anyone or anything that would make me believe that my body isn't perfect as it is, and that I have to be perpetually engaged in efforts to change my body in order to meet someone else's standards for perfection.

Our bodies are sacred vessels that carry us through this life, and for that, they deserve respect.

Our bodies are sacred vessels that carry us through this life, and for that, they deserve respect. But they are also just a container for who we truly are: our souls. So while taking care of our bodies and treating them as our most valued possessions is important, they are not the entirety of who we are. What we look like in our bikinis is not the ultimate measure of our worth (although I have yet to come across a woman who doesn't look like a goddess in her bikini).

There are any number of companies that would love nothing more than to sap all of your money, your time, your energy, and your self-worth in order to profit from your desire to get a perfect "beach body." When you spend your money and time on these products, you are actually telling the marketplace that you don't like yourself, and that you don't deserve products that are designed to make you feel great in your own skin. You are telling the marketplace that you despise your body and want products that will prey on your desire to change yourself.

You are divine, feminine perfection. Your body is beautiful. You deserve to love yourself at any size...

But giving in to the "beach body" craze doesn't just contribute to a marketplace and media culture of body shaming, it also hurts you individually, because it is causing you to divert your precious time and resources to an endless quest for physical perfection. By giving away your precious resources, you are keeping yourself from living at full amplitude.

If you add up all the time and energy that you could potentially spend on the quest for the perfect beach body, you might find that you could get that online master's degree, spend more time with you kids, help out your aging parents, take on an extra project at work that will get you the big promotion, or take up a new creative pursuit. You might find that you have the time and resources to become the woman that you truly want to be, not just someone who looks "better" in a bikini (according to some).

You are divine, feminine perfection. Your body is beautiful. You deserve to love yourself at any size, and to show your body love through movement. You deserve to live at full amplitude, and you can make the choice this very instant to say "No!" to beach body and "Yes!" to embracing your body as it is. What will you choose?

9 Myths About Laser Hair Removal And Waxing, And The Truth Behind Them

$
0
0

It's totally OK to have body hair, but if you do decide to remove it, you may not be exactly sure which method is best. Laser hair removal and waxing are two popular procedures that women and men can book at a salon or spa. Yet, there are still big misconceptions tied to them -- including the rumor that laser treatment doesn't work on black people, and wax rips your skin off.

To debunk common myths about these two hair removal techniques, we turned to Spruce & Bond specialist Kristen Rogers to set the record straight. Scroll down to find out what we learned about the difference between laser and waxing. Then, share your hair removal stories in the comments section.

MYTH: Black people can't do laser hair removal.

According to Rogers, there is no skin type or tone that laser will not work on. It is more about the color of the hair rather than texture or complexion. "There are different settings and machines for different skin types, which makes it possible for all skin tones to do laser," she says.

FACT: The darker your body hair is, the better for laser hair removal.

Individuals with dark hair are prime clients for this method. Basically, the more contrast there is between your skin tone and hair color, the better. Rogers doesn't believe people with blonde, red or gray hair will benefit from laser.

MYTH: You must be close-shaven before getting laser hair removal.

While Rogers says that most of her clients prefer to shave the areas where they will get laser treatment, it isn't uncommon for the aesthetician to shave an area such as the bikini line. "It is scary and difficult for them," she explains. "The only downside to having the specialist shave you in the room, is that it is a dry shave."

FACT: It takes more than one laser hair removal session to see a significant reduction in hair growth.

"Laser hair removal works as a continuous process of removing the hair follicle of the given area over a specific amount of time," says Rogers. "The laser works under the skin's surface to damage the hair follicles and stunt future growth." The professional notes that you should start to see results within two weeks of your first treatment. As the hair grows back slower, it will be very patchy. She adds, "I always recommend my clients to treat at least five times, spaced apart four to six weeks, to see the best results. Each session reduces hair growth by 10 to 15 percent."

MYTH: You won't experience any pain during laser hair removal.

It isn't out of the ordinary for you to experience discomfort while getting laser treatments. To help minimize pain, Rogers says that some of her clients take two Advils 30 minutes before their treatment.

FACT: It is recommended that you allow hair to grow 1/8 of an inch before waxing.

"It's surprising how many people think they need to shave before a wax," says Rogers."The longer the hair, within reason, the smoother of a wax you'll receive."

MYTH: Waxing grabs onto the skin in order to pull hair out.

When done correctly, waxing actually grabs onto the hair and pulls the follicle. This is why the area is smoother than after a shave, according to Rogers.

FACT: Hair grows back less quickly when waxing versus shaving.

Rogers attributes the slower growth to the hair follicle being completely removed during the wax process. "It is waiting for the next growth stage," she adds.

MYTH: There is no need to exfoliate after waxing because the hair removal method does it for you.

Not entirely true. On the third day of post-waxing, Rogers recommends using a sugar scrub to exfoliate along with a natural form of salicylic acid like willow bark to keep the pores in the area closed and less prone to bacteria. Exfoliation also helps to minimize ingrown hairs.

Here's What Disney Princesses Would Look Like As Parents

Artist Isaiah Stephens has drawn Disney princesses in many forms -- as strong female heroines, "Star Wars" characters, and even manatees. One of his latest series transforms the famous royals into something very different: parents.

Stephens' illustrations show Belle, Elsa, Tiana and the gang as moms and moms-to-be engaging in activities like breastfeeding, giving birth and diaper-changing.

"I wanted to try and highlight some of the major scenarios a parent of an infant/toddler would go through," Stephens told The Huffington Post. "Funny moments, tender moments, and a few in-between."

Though the artist said he doesn't have any children himself, he said he hopes to someday. In the meantime, he just enjoys the positive responses to his Disney motherhood series.

"With all of my Disney-themed stuff, I just want to make people smile," he said. "These were all done with love and admiration for all of the mother figures I've had in my own life. I like knowing that my artwork can put a smile on a persons face."

A Shoppable Event Takes Brick-And-Mortar Buying To The Next Level

$

In a time when much of retail is headed online, Touriya Haoud isn't taking the traditional approach. The former model is turning brick-and-mortar on its head by curating physical, art-meets-fashion-meets-lifestyle installations around the globe.

Haoud, an actress, model and singer who most recently ran an Los Angeles-based PR company, has stationed her new business -- called The ConnectorLA -- in West Hollywood.

"I felt like LA was boring  -- when it comes to shopping -- and I felt like we needed more activations and stories and to merge different people together and that’s how The Connector was born," Haoud told The Huffington Post. "If you’re in LA, it’s really good for going out, eating dinner, but when it comes to fashion and art, it’s very scattered. It’s different than being in New York or Europe."

Here's how it works: First, Haoud comes up with themes for the installations (which she calls "stories"), such as "Marrakech Meets California." Next, she searches for artists and fashion designers whose work fits within the theme. Finally, she organizes an invite-only event featuring theme-relevant food and drinks where guests can shop the chosen pieces. These events can range from one day to several days long, such as her upcoming three-day "California Meets Mexico City" story that will take place at the Busue boutique hotel in Mexico City.

"It's a new way to shop -- they experience a story," the Moroccan-Macedonian curator said.

Haoud, born in the Netherlands, hosts the stories in homes and hotels all around the world, as well as at her West Hollywood gallery space. The products featured at the exhibitions range from skincare to women and children's clothing. She launches a new exhibition approximately every two months.

The ConnectorLA launched on October 23, 2015, and since then, Haoud has curated five stories, with more in the works. She felt her previous PR gig was too creatively stifling, hence her decision to combine a love of fashion and art.

"If you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like a job," Haoud said. "It's so much fun working with all these artists and designers and it's fun to create stories. It's constantly evolving and changing so we never get bored."

Haoud's favorite story she's worked on is "Marrakech Meets California," which launched on March 24 and was shopped by approximately 400 guests. She collaborated with designer Rumi Neely and artist Isabella Huffington (daughter of Huffington Post Editor-in-Chief Arianna Huffington), to bring some Marrakech flavor to Los Angeles. Isabella will also travel with Haoud to launch "California Meets Mexico City" in September.

"Everybody looks up to LA and the lifestyle here -- workout, juices, supplements," Haoud said. "I researched cities booming around the world. Mexico City is really at the top of that. There's a big artsy scene."

Even though the heart of The ConnectorLA is installations, their digital presence is in the works, as well. An online store will open in June where products featured in the current story will be sold. The ConnectorLA has grown into Haoud's full-time job, along with raising her three children. Now firmly immersed in it, she has high hopes for the future of LA's art scene.

"I really think, especially in [West Hollywood], the art scene is really growing ... and people are more open-minded," Haoud said. "People from around the world are actually moving and trying to make a difference about the art scene here. I’ve been to several exhibits and they are always packed -- the last two years it's been booming. I hope it keeps growing like this and people stay open-minded. I'm hoping more people from around the world will show here."

WOW, Ashley Graham's New Swimsuitsforall Collection Is HOT

Ashley Graham's long-standing relationship with inclusive bathing suit brand Swimsuitsforall took a leap forward in Dec. 2015 when it was announced the plus-size supermodel would collaborate on a highly anticipated swim collection.

Now, there's one seriously sexy campaign to go with it.

The new line, which debuted Monday, boasts 11 suits from studded one-pieces to string bikinis, Graham's personal swimsuit type of choice. Their inclusion echoes the sentiment that all bathing suits -- regardless of their cut, material and shape -- can and should be worn by any woman

"I wanted all women to feel like they could wear [string bikinis]," Graham told The Huffington Post. "We made one supportive enough for any woman to wear and still feel super sexy. I love being in a string bikini, it's one of my favorite styles."

Graham looks breathtakingly gorgeous modeling all of the suits, which are all inspired by James Bond with names like "Spy" and "Espionage."

"I'm the boss of my own life and my body. That's the notion James Bond emulates. The concept of this whole line and the campaign was the woman being the lead, running the show," Graham said.

And sure enough, when it came to shooting the campaign, she handled it like a boss, too. Swimsuitsforall's Sara Mitzner told The Huffington Post that Graham shot both the photo campaign and video in one 20-hour day.

"There's no one else in the business who could have done that," she said, adding that "There wasn't a single bad shot."

The images were taken in Curacao and aboard what Mitzner said is a half-million-dollar boat. If they look especially intimate, perhaps it's because Graham's husband, cinematographer Justin Ervin, was behind the lens.

But beyond capturing his wife's essence, there's another reason Ervin came in handy on set. Graham, who told The Huffington Post she's not much a diver, repeatedly jumped into the water head-first like a pro for the 30-second promo spot. "He's the only one who could get me to do that dive 10 times," Graham said.

The suits are sized 10-20 for one-pieces and 10-24 for two pieces, and retail between $79 and $398 (for one very elaborate, Swarovski crystal-draped two-piece) below.

This Smart Makeup Hack Conceals Pimples Better Than Almost Anything Else

Let's face it: Attempting to cover up a pimple with makeup can feel like kind of a pathetic act. You're tempted to top it with as much concealer as you can to just bury the sucker, but you also want to make sure it's blended and that people can't easily tell there's a giant mound of concealer on your face. It's maddening. What makes it even worse is that after you've spent all that time hiding it, halfway throughout the day your concealer wears off, and there's your pimple, glaring red for everyone to see. But of course, there's a makeup hack to solve this all-too-common problem.

One Reddit user says she always puts eye-shadow primer on her blemishes before she puts any kind of color-correcting product or concealer on it. Yep, eye-shadow primer, not just any old makeup primer. "Normally I have problems getting the makeup to adhere to the skin that has the most problems (due to oil or peeling when the skin is a new layer), so the area around it has all the product and the blemish itself is as red as ever," she writes. But the tackiness and texture of eye-shadow primer make it ideal for this purpose. "I like to use a drier eye-shadow primer like the Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer so it really stays and it doesn't add to any oil." She follows this pro move with concealer, powder, and setting spray.

Related: Yoga Can Give You Better Skin--Here's How

We asked cosmetic chemist Randy Schueller if any of the ingredients in the Lorac primer might help concealer stick to skin's surface longer. "The primer contains several ingredients that are either hydrophobic [waterproof] or film-forming, specifically trihydroxystearin, polyethylene, disteardimonium hectorite, and triethylhexanoin," he says. So it's promising. But the real test of whether this is a legit trick or not is to check with top makeup artists. Fiona Stiles, who works with Serena Williams and Chrissy Teigen, is totally on board with the concept. "This sounds like a pretty good idea. I can see why it would be effective," says Stiles. "The skin on a pimple is often stretched and shiny, making it too smooth for concealer to stick to it well. Something like an eye-shadow primer that makes the skin grippy sounds like it would really work to get the product to stay put and extend the wear of your makeup without having to do touch-ups." And Brandie Hopstein, a makeup artist who works with Maddie Ziegler, says the reason why the Lorac eye-shadow primer specifically works so well is because it's not oil-based. "It helps create a barrier between the skin and the foundation as well as holding the foundation in place," says Hopstein. "When you apply a mattifying water-based primer, you're supplementing the skin texture and giving it something to hold onto."

4 Hacks to Make Painting Your Nails Much, Much Easier

For Allure, by Maddie Aberman.

Getting a manicure is a nice treat, but for numerous reasons (like cost or time or laziness), many of us prefer painting our nails at home. Some people even find painting their own nails relaxing, especially if they're doing it while binge-watching old episodes of Gilmore Girls (or maybe that's just me). Regardless, it's something so many people do but only a few people do well. So to help you hone your skills, we rounded up four hacks to make your DIY manicure look like a salon-quality job.

Gain control. It doesn't matter whether you're a righty or a lefty, painting with your nondominant hand is about as challenging as texting with your eyes closed. No matter what I do, one hand looks beautiful and the other looks like a two-year-old did it. While I was getting a manicure recently at Van Court Studio in New York City, manicurist Lisa Lee told me a hack I'd never heard before: She recommended that when you're painting with your nondominant hand, you move the hand you're painting rather than the hand holding the polish brush. It might sound strange, but it makes sense. You have much more control of your dominant hand so you can more easily move it steadily in tiny increments. Unless you're ambidextrous--in which case I'm guessing a lot of things come easier to you--this might help you achieve a cleaner manicure.

Speaking of clean.... I arrived at the salon wearing a deep-burgundy shade, which is notorious for being a pain in the you-know-what to remove. To remove a majority of the polish, Lee first went in with acetone and a cotton pad, but just as it normally does, the bold shade lingered around my cuticles. So Lee grabbed a disposable mascara wand. Yes, the little plastic ones you can buy supercheaply in bulk. She dipped the bristles in remover and ran it back and forth over the edges of my nails. The stiff bristles got in every nook and cranny, and in a matter of seconds, my nails were completely clean.

Get a no-hassle pedicure. This tip comes straight from the brain of an Allure staffer. Painting your toes can be hard. Partly because it's weird and partly because by the time you've meticulously painted your fingernails, you've run out of steam. To simplify the process, apply your toenail polish with slapdash abandon, then let it dry overnight. In the morning, hop into a warm shower and watch as any dried polish on your cuticles rinses away with your deep conditioner. You'll be left with a professional-looking at-home pedi with close to zero effort.

And make sure to elevate. Another Allure staffer, beauty assistant Kat Suico, shared her tip for an easier manicure. You know those vanity caps that come on the tops of bottles from brands like Smith & Cult, Butter London, and Marc Jacobs? It's easier to grasp the handle by removing the bulky cap, but that doesn't mean you should lose it altogether. Suico uses it as a stand on which to rest the current finger she's painting. It gives her more control and guarantees that no fingers collide while the polish is still wet.

Amber Riley To Body-Shamers: 'Let My Big A** Live!'

A little post-op novocain can go a long way. Just ask Amber Riley, the former "Glee" powerhouse who took advantage of her inebriated state after her dental surgery to remind us just how little she cares about the fact that people think she's fat.

I got some things I need to get off my chest, and my thighs, and my stomach

A video posted by Amber Riley (@msamberpriley) on

"You know there are just some things that my sober mind keeps me from sharing," she said in an Instagram video on Saturday.

That ends tonight. I've got some things I need to get off my chest: Why does me being fat offend so many people? Is it because I'm confident, I'm fly, and I'm sexy? Why? Why? Let my big ass live. I let y'all live. I love all colors, shapes, and sizes. So just so you know, when you come out here and you call me fat, it's not an insult, dummy. My ass is fat, and the fellas love it. And so do I. So eat it.

Preach, Amber.

Obama's Ban On Plastic Microbeads Failed In One Huge Way

Stiv Wilson chose his battle three and a half years ago. The problem is, he still doesn't know who all his opponents are.

An environmental activist fixated on curbing plastic pollution in the oceans he loves to surf and sail, Wilson focused his efforts on eliminating microbeads, the tiny plastic particles most commonly used as exfoliants in facial scrubs, body washes and toothpastes. Polyethylene plastic beads don't disintegrate or biodegrade, and about 8 trillion beads -- enough to cover more than 300 tennis courts -- end up in waterways across the United States every day.

In December, Wilson claimed victory when President Obama signed a bill outlawing microbeads from rinse-off cosmetics by mid-2017. Targeting those products was easy -- the U.S. Food and Drug Administration already required companies to disclose such ingredients used on skin or teeth. But the narrowly focused legislation left open a gaping loophole, allowing companies to quietly continue using microbeads in myriad products, including detergents, sandblasting materials and cosmetics that can be left on the skin. Identifying all those firms proved impossible.

Now, as campaigners push for bans in the United Kingdom and Australia, they face the same challenge as the activists in America: figuring out which companies use tiny plastics in their products.

"We recognized that there were other products with microbeads, such as detergents, sandblasting materials and a few other applications, all of which we don't ultimately know yet," Wilson, director of campaigns at the environmental nonprofit Story of Stuff Project, told The Huffington Post.

"I was looking at patent records to see what patents had been filed for various applications, but it was really unclear -- there are bazillions of products in the marketplace and it's difficult to determine which have microbeads or not," he added.

While companies like Unilever, Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble -- all of which must phase out microbeads from their consumer cosmetics -- are household names peddling recognizable brands, most companies selling detergents and sandblasting materials are business-to-business firms, meaning they don't have brands that environmental advocates can name and shame.

"We don't really know what products they're in or not because there are no FDA guidelines demanding that you disclose the ingredients," Wilson added. "But we didn't think we could win on all of them."

Still, he had a plan. In 2014, by pushing for statewide bans in California and New York, he and his fellow campaigners hoped to force a de facto ban on microbeads around the country. No company, Wilson posited, would formulate one version of a facial scrub for the combined 58.5 million people in two of the most important U.S. markets, only to make separate products for shoppers in 48 other states.

It worked. In September, the California State Assembly passed a bill restricting the sale of personal products containing microbeads. The legislation cleared the way for President Obama to sign a bipartisan bill three months later.

"It was a very positive thing that Obama signed the Microbead-Free Waters Act," Jeroen Dagevos, head of programs at the Amsterdam-based nonprofit Plastic Soup Foundation, told HuffPost by phone. "It's really helping, but it's not complete."

Now, Wilson has teamed up with Greenpeace in the United Kingdom to push for a more comprehensive ban.

"At Greenpeace our main issue with [Obama's ban] is that it covers only wash-off products, whereas we would like a ban here to cover any products that contain microplastics that go down the drain," Greg Norman, press officer for Greenpeace UK, wrote in an email to HuffPost. "So we and our partners are pushing for something more wide-ranging from the U.K. government."

The next step for the U.S., Wilson said, may be to push for a right-to-know bill that would force other companies manufacturing products with microbeads to disclose their ingredients.

The need for a complete ban seems increasingly urgent. The oceans will contain more plastic than fish by 2050, according to a January report from the world Economic Forum and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, with analytical support from consultants at McKinsey. Microbeads wreak havoc on coral populations that eat the tiny particles, which then destroy the creatures' digestive systems.

“Taking action on microbeads was an important first win,” David Andrews, a senior scientist at the nonprofit Environmental Working Group, told HuffPost by phone. “But it’s even more important to make sure we are really addressing environmental plastic pollution."

"Everyone can visualize floating plastic bottles," Andrews added, "but it’s harder to envision the damage these smaller pieces of plastic can cause.”

Looking Back, The 'Thelma And Louise' Premieres Were SO 1991

On May 21, 1991, nobody had really heard of Thelma, Louise or Brad Pitt yet.

Now, 25 years later, they are all a part of the American cultural zeitgeist. Thelma and Louise represent independence (and how to drive a car off a cliff in style), and Pitt represents how to succeed as a ridiculously handsome person.

To celebrate "Thelma and Louise's" 25th anniversary, we went through some photos from the film's California and New York premieres and cannot get enough of Susan Sarandon's Lite Brite dress, Geena Davis's puffy shirt, and that crazy four-year period when Pitt and Juliette Lewis were soooo in love.

So you saw embroidered dresses everywhere last summer, decided to hold off and now realize they are still a huge trend, so you want one? Us too.

Ukrainian embroidered dresses are very popular, and if you're thinking of investing in one, doing your research is key because they often carry massive price tags.

A photo posted by Analuz (@lulu65lulu) on

Vyshyvanka, the colloquial term for Ukrainian embroidered shirts, have blown up in the past few months (in large part due to designers like Vita Kin and fashion bloggers like Leandra Medine). But these dresses can set you back upwards of a thousand dollars ... ouch.

But if you want to get a similar look, you're in luck, because many fast-fashion stores are creating dresses with pretty embroidery. We've rounded up several options that all ring in under $100, so you'll still be able to afford food this month.
