Kate Upton Fires Off X-Rated Tweet After Justin Verlander Loses Cy Young

Plenty of baseball fans were stunned on Wednesday when Rick Porcello of the Boston Red Sox won the Cy Young Award over Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers.

Verlander had 14 first-place votes for the award, compared with eight for Porcello ― but because the Boston pitcher received many more second-place votes, he had a higher total score.

In addition, two baseball writers in Florida left Verlander off their ballots completely, which didn’t help his score.

That didn’t sit right with a number of fans ... including someone who just might be Verlander’s number one fan: his fiancee, Kate Upton.

She fired off a tweet that didn’t mince words:

She also sent a couple of follow-up tweets:

Here’s some of the reaction:

A few hours after Upton’s tweetstorm, Verlander issued his own response:

Tom Ford, Newly Enlightened

$
0
0

Tom Ford is not the same person he was 10 years ago.

Recovering from an acrimonious split with Gucci after a decade as the brand’s creative director, Ford had just launched his eponymous line. “I knew I wanted to go back into fashion, but I also still want to do a film — I don’t even want to get into it, because everybody will laugh at me and I’m sick of it, but I am really serious about making movies and I will get one made,” Ford told New York magazine in 2007.

Two years later, he self-financed the tender, surreal “A Single Man,” which won enthusiastic reviews and an Oscar nomination for Colin Firth. He has since dressed Michelle Obama for dinner at Buckingham Palace, inspired a Jay Z song and welcomed a son with his husband.

No one is laughing at Ford anymore. His second directorial effort, “Nocturnal Animals,” opens this weekend. The layered melodrama has proven more divisive than “A Single Man,” and that’s a good thing. People pay attention to Ford’s films.

Based on Austin Wright’s 1993 novel Tony and Susan, “Nocturnal Animals” revolves around Susan Marrow (Amy Adams), a Los Angeles art-gallery owner disillusioned with her excessively primped surroundings. Susan’s marriage to a distant businessman (Armie Hammer) is crumbling, and the silky world she superintends highlights the insecurities bred by her Southern belle of a mother (Laura Linney). Like a wake-up call slung onto her doorstep, Susan receives a manuscript written by her estranged ex-husband (Jake Gyllenhaal). The novel’s sinister revenge plot plays out in Susan’s mind as she reads, transporting her ― and us ― to a barren stretch of western Texas where murder lurks around the bend.

For the 55-year-old Ford, that duality is personal. It marks a gulf between lacquered professional gloss and a newfound recognition that the world is grittier than materialism allows it to be. While writing “A Single Man” in his 40s, Ford realized he had neglected his “spiritual” growth, just like Susan. He began reading Eckhart Tolle and the Eastern philosophy texts that Christopher Isherwood, the source novel’s author, had studied, including China’s Tao Te Ching. The mindfulness Ford was absorbing resonated in the book’s opening line: “Waking up begins with saying am and now.”

“Maybe it’s just been going through a certain spiritual transformation and the struggle with the material world, which I actively participate in, obviously, as a fashion designer, and am drawn to, and the conflicts of that,” Ford said a few weeks ago during a phone conversation. “I struggled with that starting as early as the late 1990s.”

Knowing that “beauty brings us pleasure,” Ford, who has been criticized for objectifying women in his brand’s advertisements, aims to “strike a balance” between the two realms ― something Susan must reconcile as “Nocturnal Animals” progresses. Even though he sees the fashion and film industries as separate beasts, Ford recognizes that superficiality haunts both.

“The main similarity is that, on the surface, everything is perfect,” he said. “Everything is slick and smooth. I think what a lot of people who are not involved in either of those industries do not realize is that such a massive amount of work, pain, sacrifice and effort go behind creating that facade of perfection, which is unnatural.”

The contrast is personified in the film’s opening-credits scene, a dreamlike tableau of nude, obese women dancing before a flowing red curtain as glitter falls like snow around them. This spectacle is an installation at Susan’s gallery. In Ford’s eyes, it’s meant to showcase a liberation that defies Western beauty constructs.

Inclusivity in fashion is a hot-button topic right now, because inclusivity everywhere is hot-button topic, especially in light of Donald Trump’s election. Ford balks at the lack of diversity on some runways, but when I ask about the need for plus-size models similar to the women at the start of “Nocturnal Animals,” he responds, “Let’s talk about movies ― let’s not veer off into fashion.”

Even if Ford has restrictions in comparing his film to the style sphere, the story’s inherent politics invite such reflections. Some voters spent 2016 at war with the establishment. Many who supported Trump resented the legacy politicians who were (or seemed) isolated from the dusty realities of working-class America, sort of like the gap between Susan’s experiences in Los Angeles and the grimy Texas represented in her ex-husband’s novel. For Ford, a Democrat, underscoring that “disenfranchisement” is the one “positive” result of Trump’s candidacy. (Or at least it was before Hillary Clinton’s shocking loss.)

“For those of us who do live a life of privilege, in urban centers, we don’t know that,” Ford said. “We don’t see that. We don’t realize that. It’s the same thing in England, where I lived part of the time. Brexit brought that to the attention, I think, of many of the Brits who lived in this very rich London bubble. I think this gap between the rich and the poor is too big.”

There’s more of this subtext to mine, but Ford did not intend an overt political statement about America’s social divide. Instead, it was Tony and Susan’s themes about not throwing away valuable relationships that spoke to him. The same tenant was pivotal in his personal evolution.

“Somehow, life just caught up with me,” he said of the past decade. “God knows where time goes.”

Barbra Streisand's Iconic Sheer Oscars Look Was A Total Accident

Sheer clothing reigns supreme in Hollywood today, as it did for Barbra Streisand when she won an Academy Award in 1969. But in Streisand’s case, her sheer look was an accident.

The Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winner is W magazine’s Dec. 2016 cover star. She graces the glossy in a blouse, jacket and sheer stockings (on purpose), but reveals inside the mag that her most iconic look was unintentional.

The 74-year-old received her first Oscar in 1969 for her role in “Funny Girl,” accepting it in a see-through Arnold Scaasi pantsuit. According to Streisand, she didn’t know the suit would be transparent when cameras started flashing:

That night, in my dressing room, I was choosing between two different outfits. One was lovely, but very conservative. And then there was the pantsuit with plastic sequins. I had no idea that when the lights hit that outfit, it would become transparent! I wanted a white collar and cuffs, which it had, and I wore my hair under my chin, because I thought to myself, I’m going to win two Oscars in my lifetime, and I’ll be more conservative next time.

Of course, Streisand did have many other opportunities to dress up for awards shows. Eight years later she did, in fact, win that second Oscar, dressing more conservatively to snag “Best Original Song” in 1977.

Whether in revealing clothing, covered up or otherwise, Babs and her iconic style can do no wrong.

HuffPost Did An Office Clothing Swap. And You Can Too.

This article is part of HuffPost’s “Reclaim” campaign, an ongoing project spotlighting the world’s waste crisis and how we can begin to solve it.

Free stuff! Everyone loves free stuff.

Everyone also has a bag of clothes at home that’s full of items he or she hasn’t worn in ages. You probably have one, too ― a bag you’ve been meaning to donate for months.

A simple solution? Host a free office clothes swap. People get to purge their wardrobe of unwanted items, and find some new treasures in the process.

The Huffington Post hosted a swap for its New York City employees on Tuesday and Wednesday. We collected over 350 pieces of clothes and accessories on the first day. The following day, we let people choose new items from the donated goods. More than half of the donated items were reclaimed ― the rest we donated to a local Goodwill.

Here’s how we did it:

This Company Makes Nude Bras That Can Perfectly Match Your Skin Tone

As more and more brands step up to deliver nude garments in a wider range of skin tones, one aspiring company has a plan that’s a little more personal.

TruNude, a lingerie brand currently seeking backers on Kickstarter, claims it can match its bras perfectly to your specific skin tone using its own patented color-matching technology.

Here’s how it works: Using the TruNude app, customers take a selfie which generates a personal color code. They then enter the code, along with their measurements, in the app. The customer can alternatively choose from a set of swatches that, according to the brand’s site, “contains the most popular color matches from our prototyping process and contains a range of over and under tones.”

Founder Danai Pointer wrote on the site that the idea arose after “a discouraging bridesmaid experience,” and told The Huffington Post she hopes TruNude will help “celebrate our individuality” and “help women to feel amazing about our bodies.”

As for the recent shift toward more inclusivity in fashion, Pointer credits a changing, diversifying society.

“Companies have gotten away with the beige ‘nude’ standard because that’s just the way it’s been,” Pointer told The Huffington Post. “Economically it’s easier to produce one color, and we as consumers have accepted the lack of options because, en masse, we haven’t really required an alternative. But society is changing, we’re diversifying, and our range of skin tones should be reflected in staple, everyday attire.”

TruNude said they “met with and surveyed hundreds of women” and found that almost everyone they spoke with “hates bra shopping and feels neglected by the way things are.”

The women featured in the Kickstarter range in skin tone and each voice their past struggles to find nude undergarments that match them perfectly. “I’ve done a lot of fashion in my time, there’s always this thing for the skin tone bra and underwear. I end up wearing black,” one of the women said.

The brand’s T-Shirt bra, which runs from from a size AA-M, will set you back $99. For $50, you can purchase a bralette, which Pointer said each have a “300 day money back guarantee.” That might be more than you’re used to spending, but consider it a small price to pay in the movement toward inclusivity and comfort. Pointer also added that “once we complete the campaign and are able to scale the company, we can take another look at the fee structure.”

Check out the brand’s Kickstarter page, which has raised more than $16,000 of its $20,000 goal as of the time this was published.

This Mom Makes Adorable Preemie Baby Clothes

After her son was born 25 weeks and four days early, Amanda Huhta discovered that options for clothing that actually fit preemies were limited. So she decided to change that.

Huhta began making outfits for babies in the NICU in the form of patterned diaper shirts. She decided to call her organization Twenty-Five and Four, a nod to how early her son was born.

Huhta told The Huffington Post that finding clothes was far from her mind when she first welcomed her son.

“I had no idea they could even save a baby so small,” she said. “We assumed we’d be planning a funeral, not looking for clothes.”

Her little fighter pulled through though, and that’s when Huhta recognized a need for her diaper shirts. They range from fitting 1-pound babies to fitting 10-pound babies who are in the NICU for various health reasons, and they have designs like polka dots, camouflage, animals and more. Twenty-Five and Four is funded through donations and provides the shirts for babies in the NICU for free.

At first, only Huhta and her mom made the outfits. Now, Twenty-Five and Four has volunteer seamstresses in every state and in various countries.

“They deserve to be praised, as this wouldn’t be possible without their kindness and generosity,” Huhta said. “They all donate their time and materials to these babies.”

Huhta said that her story and her work with Twenty-Five and Four has “spread like wildfire.” A shirt she sent out recently reminded her of the babies she and her volunteers are helping, even if they’re thousands of miles away.

“I just sent a shirt to India three days ago,” she said. “That was a great feeling.”

See more diaper shirts from Twenty-Five and Four below and head to the organization’s site for more information.

This 'Inauguration' Dress Collection Includes A Nod To Hillary, And Now We're Sad

Looks like you can add White House Black Market to the list of brands surprised by last week’s election result.

The women’s clothing chain debuted its third “Inaugural Collection” Thursday, releasing 12 new dresses “inspired by contemporary as well as retrospective first lady fashion and inaugural style.”

But if one of the dresses in the collection looks familiar, perhaps it’s because the $300 cold shoulder gown is a pretty darn close take on a Donna Karan dress Hillary Clinton wore to a White House event in 1993.

The unfortunately-timed similarities were first spotted by The Washington Post’s fashion critic Robin Givhan:

Clinton called the dress “one of her favorites” in an interview with Lenny Letter in Oct. 2015, explaining that it was also pretty controversial at the time.

“I do love to fool around with fashion and have some fun with it. And so I wore this, and a lot of the political pundits [said]: ‘What is the meaning of this?’ and everything. I thought it would be fun! You’ve got to still have fun in all of these different roles that you’re in or I’m in or anybody is in their life. So this was one of my favorites. It’s in the Clinton library, if anybody ever wants to see it.”

White House Black Market hasn’t yet responded to an inquiry about the design inspiration, but we think Givhan’s tweet pretty much speaks for it all. Sigh.

Marilyn Monroe's Dress From JFK's Birthday Sells For $4.8 Million At Auction

(Reuters) - The skin-tight dress Marilyn Monroe wore for her sultry rendition of “Happy Birthday” before then U.S. President John F. Kennedy at a 1962 gala was sold on Thursday for $4.8 million at an auction in Los Angeles.

Ripley’s Believe it or Not purchased the Jean Louis designed dress covered in sequins, the Beverly Hills-based Julien’s Auctions said in a statement.

With its color matching her skin tone, the dress, which was so tight that Monroe had to be sewn into it, gave the impression she was nude.

“Marilyn Monroe singing ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President’ is certainly one of the most famous impromptu performances in American history,” said Darren Julien, President and CEO of Julien’s Auctions.

Monroe, one of the 20th century’s most famous sex symbols, wore the dress as she sang “Happy Birthday to You” to Kennedy in a breathy performance at a May 19, 1962 fundraiser for the Democratic Party in Madison Square Garden in New York.

The star of the films “Some Like it Hot” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” died of a drug overdose less than three months later. Monroe’s song was to mark Kennedy’s 45th birthday, which was to occur a couple weeks later. The president was assassinated the following year.

The late fund manager Martin Zweig bought the dress in 1999 for $1.26 million at a Christie’s auction, Julien’s Auctions said. Zweig, who saw the dress as an investment, kept it in a climate-controlled display case mounted on a mannequin, Julien said.

The dress is one of many items from Monroe’s life which Julien’s Auctions is offering during a three-day auction. Monroe would have been 90 years old this year.

Designer Sophie Theallet Vows Never To Work With Melania Trump

$

In her eight years in the White House, Michelle Obama became a sweetheart of the fashion world, beloved by designers thrilled to dress her. For at least one of those industry stars, those days are gone.

French designer Sophie Theallet vowed never to dress incoming first lady Melania Trump in an open letter posted to her Twitter account Thursday night.

Theallet, who is based in New York City and has designed collections for Lane Bryant, explained in the letter that her brand “stands against all discrimination and prejudice” and calls her runway shows, campaigns and celebrity dressings “a celebration of diversity and reflection of the world we live in.”

In that spirit, she decided not to dress Trump.

“As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom, and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next first lady. The rhetoric of racism, sexism and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by,” wrote Theallet.

Theallet called her work with Obama, someone whose “values, actions and grace” resonate with her, “a highlight and an honor.”

Obama wore and repeated Theallet’s designs over the years. One of the designs was even nearly cloned for a collection Theallet did with the Gap back in 2011.

It’s a bold move to weigh in on politics, one that Theallet said herself might not be wise. But she also called on her fellow designers to follow suit, reminding them that “integrity is our only true currency.”

Meanwhile, it’s unclear whether or not the future first lady even intends to be dressed by designers when her husband’s presidency begins in January. After all, she wore her own purchased clothing on the campaign trail. Business of Fashion recently declared “Fashion Will Learn To Love Melania Trump,” but InStyle editor-in-chief Laura Brown told the outlet her staff “have no plans” to cover Mrs. Trump.

Whatever happens in the future, this is certainly a big about-face from the last eight years.

The Daily Mail Is Very Worried About Hillary Clinton’s Hair And Makeup

$

Just one week after losing her presidential bid, former Secretary of State, Senator, First Lady and presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton dusted off her pantsuit and went to give a speech at the Children’s Defense Fund.

But LOL who really cares what that speech was about? Really, there’s no point in talking about her message that people should “believe in our country, fight for our values and never give up,” as our country is facing a rise in hate crimes, a new attorney general who once referred to civil rights groups as “un-American,” a potential national security advisor who tweeted that fearing Muslims is “rational,” and a chief strategist who has a record of distaste for Jews and women and taste for white nationalism. Instead, let’s talk about the woman who won the American popular vote’s lack of makeup!

At least that seems to be the burning hot take of The Daily Mail. As a post from Thursday confirms: Hillary Clinton had a face before the election, she still has a face after the election, and that face is still subject to objectively sexist physical commentary!

Everything is garbage, so guess it’s on women to get up and clean up the trash or whatever.

No one does a plunging neckline quite like Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez hosted the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas Thursday night, adopting the if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it philosophy by wearing three extremely on-brand looks and kissing ex-husband Marc Anthony.

There was this strategically placed Zuhair Murad jumpsuit, reminiscent of her many revealing suits of yesteryear.

There was a plunging gold romper taking us back to those good old Versace days:

And there was a white, high-neck sparkly number that fit in perfectly with her figure skater aesthetic

It wasn’t the most costume changes she’s ever done in one evening, but they might be the most J.Lo yet.

Chrissy Teigen has an important message for all the moms out there: Don’t compare yourself to the celebrity moms you see in magazines, on TV or on Instagram.

“Anyone in the public eye, we have all the help we could ever need to be able to shed everything,” the supermodel and new mom said on the “Today” show Wednesday. “So I think people get this jaded sensation that everybody’s losing [pregnancy weight] so quickly, but we just happen to be the ones who are out there.”

Teigen added, “We have nutritionists, we have dietitians, we have trainers, we have our own schedules, we have nannies. We have people who make it possible for us to get back into shape. But nobody should feel like that’s normal, or like that’s realistic.”

“I just like to call people out,” the “Lip Sync Battle” host said. “Sometimes it’s just for entertainment of my other followers, and sometimes it’s to genuinely see if they know that there’s somebody else on the other side of that screen that they’re talking to.”

Marilyn Monroe's JFK Birthday Dress Sells For An Unbelievable Sum

An unforgettable dress has been sold for an unbelievable sum.

The dress actress Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang an incredibly sexy rendition of “Happy Birthday” for President John F. Kennedy in 1962 has been auctioned off for $4.8 million.

Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! purchased the dress on Thursday night at a Julien’s Auctions event in Los Angeles.

The company plans to first put it on display at the company’s Odditorium museum in Hollywood as the centerpiece of a Marilyn Monroe collection before sending it to some of the other Odditoriums around the world.

Edward Meyer, Ripley’s vice president of exhibits and archives, lauded the dress’ historical importance.

“This is the most famous item of clothing in 20th century culture,” he stated in a release. “It has the significance of Marilyn, of Hollywood, of JFK, of American politics. Any museum in the world would love to have it on display, and now it belongs to Ripley’s Believe It or Not!”

Monroe wore the dress on May 19, 1962, while performing in front of 15,000 people at JFK’s 45th birthday party.

According to a Julien’s Auction release, the dress is studded with more than 2,500 hand-stitched crystals and was so tight that the actress ― who wore nothing underneath ― had to be sewn into it.

The fit of the dress may explain Monroe’s breathy delivery, which fed rumors that she and “Mister President” were having an affair.

Kennedy’s response to Monroe’s performance is almost as famous. He told the crowd: “I can now retire from politics after having had ‘Happy Birthday’ sung to me in such a sweet, wholesome way.”

The holiday season is fast approaching and, while that may mean glitter and pops of color to some, it’s not for everyone.

Playing 4up your natural features or simply working in a neutral color palette can also be absolutely gorgeous.

Here are some neutral gift sets we’re loving right now:

 1. Becca Glow on The Go Shimmering Skin Perfector Moonstone Set ($20)

2. Charlotte Tilbury6 Shades of Love in First Love ($69)

3. Sephora Favorites Glow For It ($30)

4. Tarte Tartelette Treasures Eye Set ($59)

 5. Deborah Lippmann Undressed ― Nude Nail Polish Set ($34

 6. BareMinerals Nude & Nice Matte Liquid Lipstick Trio ($18)

 7. NARS Liquid Gold Set ($42)

❤️ Nars ❤️ Liquid Gold Set Illuminating Face Set ✨ Limited Edition Set includes : illuminating Multiple South Beach ✨Illuminators Hot Sand✨ Larger than Life Lipgloss Gold Digger ✨ Available @sephora online $42 Main reason I purchase the set bc I am a sucker for makeup saying radiant , glow or illuminating ! I only wore this set two times . So, I base on my first impression : I'm loving the Multiple and Illuminators. Multiple feels soft , easy to apply and not streaky on my face. A lot of product goes a long way . Illuminator gives me a natural glow . I used it with my foundation. Did not emphasize or cling onto my dry patches ! I had to use more product to give me the glow . As a highlighter , it was very subtle . Better for me with foundation. I love the color. Very neutral on my skin tone ! I'm not a fan of the lip gloss . Too shimmery for my liking on alone . Use as a lip topper instead. I have to play with this more. Overall, good way to try out the Nars products and not spending a lot of $$ Plus, all the colors go well with my skintone - Medium tan . Annoying when only one or two of the shades in a gift set match with your skin tone...#makeupproblems #nars #narsliquidgoldset #instamakeup #makeup #motd #mua #makeupartist #beauty #sephora #blogger #beauty #makeupandwakeup #makeuptutorial #makeupmafia #makeupbyme #lipsticklover #makeupmafia #makeupjunkie #luxe #fashion #cosmetics #highlighter #love #thatglow #illuminating #makeuphaul #lifestyle #makeupobsessed #vanity #makeuptutorials #lipsickmode#
