Why Dating Exit Interviews Should Exist

$

0
The other day, I paused while deep conditioning my hair in the shower and began to think long and hard about what I did to screw up my last date with this guy I was starting to like. Like really like.

We went out twice and after our second date, I dialed three people on my favorites list to tell them all about it.

That sounds crazy, doesn't it?

But it's not.

I go on dates every so often, and after most of them, I want to toss my phone across my living room and enter a time machine to go back three hours and pretend none of it ever happened. I'm left feeling discouraged. Or digging a spoon deep in some Cherry Garcia.

But not this one.

No.

I had such a great time.

But then I didn't hear from him. So my persistent personality kicked in and I texted him a few days later. He responded with one word. To which I responded with another question and then he didn't respond at all. Ever again.

I got the hint. I totally and fully understood that he was not that into me.

But what happened?

Date two: I had him laughing and then halfway through lunch, we were making plans to explore The Museum of Natural History next weekend.

If I brought this problem to the brunch table for my girlfriends to dissect, they'd assure me nothing is wrong. With me. That I'm a perfect princess and clearly, he wasn't ready to handle someone so awesome. That maybe he's not over his ex. Or just really busy with work. Or maybe he's an alien and secretly lives on Mars and is not ready for a long distance relationship.

Now that one sounds crazy.

Because it is.

But that's what our friends are for. Aren't they? They are the padding on the walls for us to slam into and then bounce off of and be just fine. I'm thankful for that.

Sometimes.

But come on!

After this one, I wanted to know what I did wrong. I thought about maybe emailing him and saying something like, "Listen -- I get the hint. I mean I saw that you logged back on to Tinder three hours after our last date (OK, I'm done with the crazy). Clearly, I blew this and I'd appreciate it if you could tell me what I did wrong. So that in the future I don't do it again, or I'm aware when I'm doing it or I work on censoring it. Throw me a constructive criticism bone here, will you?"

I guess I'm not ready to do that -- yet. So instead, while I was in the shower deep conditioning my hair and contemplating what I did to mess things up, I came up with this dating exit interview that I hope to have the courage to send to the next guy who gets my heart pumping, then leaves me cold.

Jen Glantz's Dating Exit Interview

Name (*required): _________________________

Length of time "dating" Jen Glantz: _________________________

Reason for leaving:

Lack of interest: She talked about three P's I couldn't care less about: poetry, pizza and punctuation.

Better opportunity: I'm not ready to kick my Tinder addiction. I even tried to swipe right at a girl I met, in person, last night at a bar.

Relocation: She says she's from Florida like it's some place special. Would I ever consider moving there? I don't know. Maybe when I'm 65 and my only handicap isn't on the golf course.

Better compensation (salary/benefits): She's a writer. I'm looking for a sugar momma or a stay-at-home momma. Not someone who has a work to-do list that resembles some people's Costco grocery list.

Lack of advancement: She didn't have any "game" and didn't lend me any flirtatious gestures. When I went in for a kiss, she turned her head and for two seconds, my tongue got real intimate with her cochlea.

Lack of training and development: If dating was a course in school and it was pass/fail, Jen would fail.

Working conditions: There might have been a stain on her silk gray blouse. There certainly was lipstick on her teeth for a good 45 minutes.

Job-related stress: Our debate over Obamacare got so heated, the people at the table next to us asked to move to a quieter, less hostile location.

Other.

All of the above.

Jen Glantz is sorry for any emotional or personal property damage she caused you. She knows a really good dry cleaner on the Upper East Side who gets stains out really quickly. Say you went on a date with Jen and they'll give you 10% off and a hug.

These Vintage Hair Dryer Photos Make It Seem Cool Under The Hood

One of our biggest pet peeves about going to the hair salon is sitting under those industrial hair dryers that just seem to burn our scalps. Now, with the new dawn of DIY hair styling, the no-heat revolution and cool products like the dryer bonnet, it's pretty easy to transform our hair in the comfort of our own homes.

But back in the day, going to the salon was like a social event that you could not miss out on. Your friends were there to fill you in on the latest gossip, and it was imperative that you got the perfect roller set. At least that's evident in these vintage photos that show how a good of a time was had while sitting under the hood of a hair dryer.

Walking into Sephora with a zero makeup aptitude can be really intimidating. There seems to be endless knowledge and methods you need to understand, right? Wrong. Rules are meant to be broken. While there are thousands of books out there with how to-guides and rules on what you absolutely shouldn’t do with makeup, there is no Supreme Court of Beauty that will punish you if you bend the rules a little. And, those rules change all the time, in tandem with the latest innovations and beauty ideals. So, when and if you pick up a beauty book, take the advice with a grain of salt: Times change, and your beauty rules should change, too.

Oh Jackie O, if only we were around in the '60s to witness your American class, impeccable style... and to take a selfie with you!

We came across this mirrored photo of Jacqueline Kennedy on Twitter this week, snapping a shot of herself, her sister-in-law Ethel & JFK himself. Very Myspace of you, Jackie. Not only are we loving this selfie, but also this white-on-white ensemble complete with a sun hat. The wife of the 35th President of the United States is known for her unforgettable style lessons, and of course the iconic pink suit, but we love this casual beach outfit, too.

In other Twitter news, we're dying to get our hands on those milk and cookie shots. And speaking of treats, Friday was Pi Day and you better have indulged. President Obama sure did. Scroll down for everything you might've missed this week.

Kristin Cavallari has been making headlines lately for her public admission that she will not vaccinate her kids because of the connection she's read about between vaccines and autism. Despite the controversy it has stirred, the former reality star stepped out in New York Friday, March 14, looking all kinds of fabulous in an all-black ensemble.

Pregnant Cavallari wore black leather tights, a black top and black blazer, completed with black heels, bag and shades. Perfectly New York, as stereotypes go!

The former "Laguna Beach" star is expecting her second child, a son, with husband Jay Cutler. The two have a son, Camden, who is 18 months old.

Lupita Nyong'o Apparently Met With J.J. Abrams About 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

Lupita Nyong'o has truly arrived. Fresh off her Academy Award win for Best Supporting Actress, the "12 Years a Slave" star is now part of the "Star Wars" rumor mill. Late Friday, The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit revealed that Nyong'o had met with director J.J. Abrams about potentially playing an offspring of Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Episode VII." HuffPost Entertainment contacted representatives for Nyong'o to see if they had comment on this story; this post will be updated if and when we receive an official response.

The news puts Nyong'o in league with a surfeit of actors and actresses who have been tied to "Episode VII" in some way. On Thursday, Variety reported that five actors -- Jesse Plemons, Ed Speleers, John Boyega, Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher -- were on Abrams' list to play the male lead in the new "Star Wars" film. Previously, "Girls" star Adam Driver was attached to the project as a potential villain in the mold of Darth Vader. Other stars who were rumored for parts at one time or another include Benedict Cumberbatch, Gary Oldman, Michael Fassbender, Alex Pettyfer, Saoirse Ronan and Michael B. Jordan.

Nyong'o has yet to book a follow-up part to "12 Years a Slave," but she did appear in the Liam Neeson film "Non-Stop" in February in a small supporting role. For more on her other possible new jobs, head to THR.

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is due out in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015. It's expected that production will begin in the spring.

Courtney Stodden is clearly ready for summer, as evidenced by her latest look in Beverly Hills.

The reality star was spotted grabbing lunch in Calif. on Friday, March 14, in a red cutout minidress and a deep tan we can only guess is a result of a luxurious vacation or a trip to the salon.

Stodden, 19, spent the afternoon with her BFF Anderson Brooks, a Los Angeles nightlight personality. Earlier in the week, the buxom blonde attended the Style Fashion Week party in L.A. wearing a see-through black lace dress only she could pull off.

Did Miley Cyrus Tattoo Her Inner Lip With A Sad Yellow Kitty?

Could Miley Cyrus be following in Kesha's footsteps?

The "Bangerz" singer posted a few photos to her Instagram account on Friday, March 14, in which she's seen with a brand new tattoo. Like Kesha's famous "SUCK IT" tat, Miley's new ink is on her inner lip. From her captions, it is unclear if the sad, yellow kitty is a real tattoo or a temporary one -- though she did post a photo to Twitter where her face is covered in a towel, captioned "#OuchyBooBoo."

Cyrus has been touring the country these past few weeks and has several shows in Texas coming up this weekend. It appears she got her tattoo in Tulsa, where she performed Thursday night.

Stomping around the grounds of SXSW, I canvassed events from FADER Fort to The Illmore that featured artsits ranging from Sam Smith to Future.

As I hopped around from one event to the next, two major fashion trends stood out: neon sneakers and vintage denim pieces.

Neon sneakers brought a funky twist around town!

Cara Delevingne and Karl Lagerfeld are quite the BFFs these days. Paris Fashion Week ended a few weeks ago, but Cara has been regramming photos of her and Karl recently. We're still LOLing at a Photoshopped picture of their switched hairdos.

Besides prancing down the runways with the creative director of Chanel, Cara seems to also be buddies with famous folks in the music industry, including Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa and ASAP Rocky.

Our conclusion? Cara is a badass.

'Twas A Rough Week For Blondes On Our Best & Worst Beauty List (PHOTOS)

Celebrities may lead very glamorous lives, but even Hollywood's biggest stars have bad beauty moments. And it was definitely a rough week for blondes.

Ashlee Simpson was spotted during SXSW with unnatural platinum-blonde hair extensions. Kristen Bell experimented with smokey eye makeup at a "Veronica Mars" screening but ended up with raccoon eyes. Meanwhile, Gwyneth Paltrow looked like she got too much sun while out in Los Angeles, California.

See exactly what we're talking about below (plus more celebrity hair and makeup looks).

BEST: Kristen Bell

Kristen looks like a warm spring day with her effortless updo, gold eyeshadow and tangerine lipstick. We're just drawn to her gray-blue eyes.

BEST: Ajak Deng

We can't help but be envious of the Sudanese model's radiant complexion. Hazy smokey eyes and bright red lipstick dresses up her simple beauty look.

BEST: Mandy Moore

mandy moore

Mandy is the latest celeb to join the "lob" club, and we're loving her tousled locks. Fresh face makeup and raisin-colored lipstick add the finishing touch.

BEST: Tina Fey

tina fey

This is Tina's best beauty look yet. Her voluminous hairstyle, lush lashes and rosy lips accentuate her glowy skin.

BEST: Jessica Alba

jessica alba

Can Jessica get any cooler? The hot mommy stands out with her slicked-back hair, bright blue eyeliner and nude lips.

WORST: Ashlee Simpson

ashlee simpson

Hat hair is hard to perfect, and Ashlee misses the mark with lackluster hair extensions that fade into her coat.

WORST: Kristen Bell

kristen bell

While we love Kristen's pin-straight strands, it's her uneven smokey eye makeup that has us scratching our heads. The look is way too dramatic for this blonde.

WORST: Ashley Roberts

ashley roberts

The former Pussycat Dolls' singer looks like she could use some sleep and it's all because of this unflattering reddish-brown eyeshadow that looks garish against her skin tone and hair coloring.

WORST: Gwyneth Paltrow

gwyneth paltrow

Ouch! Gwyneth looks like she has a really bad sunburn. The white highlighter swiped onto her brow bone and her cornstarch yellow hair only magnifies the problem.

WORST: Zulay Henao

Zulay's bad bronze makeup just makes the star blend into her shiny gold dress. And the obvious difference in her natural skin tone along her hairline isn't cute at all.

Pixie Lott's clutch

It can be tricky to accessorize a pastel dress, but Lott's yellow clutch complements her entire look without overpowering it.

Kim Kardashian's pumps

There is no reason you can't wear head-to-toe silver, as proven by Ms. Kardashian.

Olivia Wilde's hat

Wilde's wool hat not only helps her go incognito, but it also protects her face from harmful UV rays.

Elle Fanning's glasses

Madonna Channels 'Game Of Thrones' Character Daenerys Targaryen For Jewish Holiday

The editors here at HuffPost Style are HUGE "Game of Thrones" fans. We are constantly swooning over Emilia Clarke's character Daenerys Targaryen and shouting across the newsroom, "Winter is coming!" But it looks like Madonna may have one-up us on our "Game of Thrones" fandom.

The 55-year-old entertainer dressed up as the Mother of Dragons to celebrate the Jewish holiday Purim. She posted a picture on Instagram Saturday with the caption, "Happy Purim!!!!! All Hail All Queens! ##certainty."

Wearing a platinum-blonde wavy wig, brown buckled corset and brass bangles, Madonna bears an uncanny resemblance to the fictional character from the HBO series. But what really made her costume were the two miniature fake dragons perched on her shoulders.

Purim is a spring holiday that "commemorates the Jewish community's narrow escape from collective destruction in the ancient Persian Empire." While Madonna was raised as a Roman Catholic, she converted to the Jewish belief system Kabbalah in the late '90s and took the Hebrew name Esther, the orphaned Jewish girl who saves her people and becomes the Queen of Persia.

With all of that being said, it seems as though Madonna chose the perfect costume to celebrate Purim. What do you think?

Here is a picture of Paris Hilton wearing a t-shirt and leggings, walking to Urban Outfitters with her boyfriend and resembling a regular person. Basically, this outfit is what would happen if Paris was raised as a plebeian child, amongst the dirge of strip malls and public schools. It almost feels unnatural. Quick, someone fetch her a plunging, sequin gown and / or lingerie made of diamonds.

Mischa Barton Stuns In Flattering Black Dress

The Spring in Fashion is Green and Sustainable, Vaiva Style

$
0
0
Fashion Weeks in New York and Los Angeles will keep any designer busy. Add to that, it's spring, and with it comes the annual rite of fashion shows from London and France, to Asia and America.

Kicking off this season's event, Black Tie Magazine, a celebrity philanthropy platform that "empowers people worldwide to be active philanthropists," in association with Elite Professional Network, held a fashion show at the Trump World Bar.

The event producer and emcee, Gloria T. Cressler, who is the president of Elite Professional Network Group, had Vaiva Tuckuviene of Vaiva Style conduct a fashion show on her latest elegant dresses and designs with four female models.

In meeting Vaiva at the show, as well as one of the models in Jazmin Ivy Rodriguez, I got the very American international flavor of the U.S. fashion world.

Vaiva hails from Lithuania, while Jazmin from Honduras. Both, I discovered in post-show interviews, were inspired by fashion in their childhoods. Both today are big proponents of the need for the fashion industry to become more sustainable in reducing its global carbon footprint.

Fashion Shows in New York and LA
At an early age, Vaiva had been prepped to put on a fashion show. "Before I became a model, I had organized a creative project called fashion theatre. It allowed me to use all my talents and abilities," she said.

More than a model, Vaiva graduated from a university in Lithuania with a degree in Theatre Direction. "Since childhood, I have been motivated to be different and use my creative personality." A part of that was born out of her mother's influence in knitting, shopping at clothes stores, which "didn't have a lot of variety then." Out of necessity, Vaiva began to create accessories for dresses, knit jewelry to her clothing, and develop her own unique style.

It was a trip to New York a couple of decades ago when she discovered the modeling world.

"I was drawn to it. I learned all I could about modeling, doing photo shoots for editorials and runway fashion shows. When I came back to Lithuania, I opened my own modeling agency, Vaiva Studio. I learned that the modeling-fashion industry is a tough business. I helped local Lithuanian girls, teaching them how to break into the modeling and work successfully," she wrote via email.

"I also opened a boutique in my native town of Siauliai. Unlike the typical clothes found at stores and malls, I made unique one-of-a-kind dresses and accessories. My clients praised me for excellence and precision of my designs and called my collections exceptional," Vaiva explained.

Born with a creative streak, Vaiva isn't done teaching: "Fashion is my life. I love fashion in all its different ways. So I worked as a model, as a designer, as a fashion show producer, and even as a makeup artist, and a fashion photographer. I combined all of my experiences in a book The Road to Modeling Success, which will be out soon with Tate Publishing."

Lithuanian Influence to Fashion
"Lithuania has long set the tone to most of my collections: I knit and saw using traditional Lithuanian materials such as linen, and have produced a few collections influenced by our culture. Beyond traditionalism, I strived to give my collections a modern vibe. Largely, I have been influenced by the luxurious and exquisitely refined fashion collections of Yudashkin and Zaitsev -- a pair of Moscow designers," Vaiva said.

In her early days, she often visited Moscow. She attended shows where they presented Russia's Haute Couture fashion. "I admired their creativity and luxury of their timeless collections. I love classics. Love Chanel and the elusive charm of her simple 'little black dress.' I was inspired by Chanel to create my own unique signature dress," she explained.

Other influences for Vaiva Style have been Ives Yves Saint Laurent and Asia. In Beijing, China, she attended the Metropolitan Model World Contest, where she found that Asian fashion is inside her, waiting for the "right time and inspirational moment to come out and inspire either one of my designs or maybe a whole collection," Vaiva said.

2014-03-17-IMG_0358.jpg

From Technology to Sustainability
In Vaiva Style's view, "New technologies allow us to stay in touch with consumers and create a more personal, targeted shopping experience overall. Social media and feedback allows us to regulate stock levels based on the customer's response to a certain design. In their turn, companies can boost advertising through their bloggers. Mobile technologies are coming more and more in play."

Controlling inventory is one way to minimize impacts on the global supply chain that is the fashion world. "Sustainable fashion, also called eco-fashion, greatly influence the choice of materials and methods of production that we use," Vaiva said.

"The first choice of materials when I make my designs comes down to natural fibers, such as linen, silk and cotton. Sustainable fashion is typically more expensive, but we need to be conscious of the environment and try to utilize socially responsible methods of production," she stated, adding, "I am planning to make a collection using abaka, an eco-friendly material made from a plant grown in Philippines."

The Next Generation of Fashion
For model Jazmin Ivy Rodriguez, she, like Vaiva, had been influenced by fashion's beauty and style. She was also one of the models wearing Vaiva's spring collection dresses.

"I have been modeling on and off for the past four years. I was attracted to the beauty in the photography, the fashion, the makeup, the hair, and the walks. Everything that makes a woman feel beautiful and glamorous," Jazmin said,

Being a woman from Honduras with dark skin was not easy to break into such a hard and competitive industry. Jazmin said many people don't know where Honduras is or what a Honduran looks like. In some ways, she felt the need to put her country on the map and introduce her heritage. "Whenever I get compliments from people, they never guess where I'm from," she said with a bit of pride.

2014-03-17-IMG_3317.JPG

[Jazmin Invy Rodriguez (2nd L) and models wearing Vaiva Style at Trump World Bar. Credit: BarryBrown.com]

"It's an advantage to be tall, tanned and exotic. But I feel like for some commercial work it's hard to breakthrough and land good jobs," she said. "Most people see an exotic Latin woman automatically categorize us as urban models. The modeling industry is not very popular in my homeland. Everyone knows that if you want to be a successful model the places to go to are Europe and the United States."

Like Viava Style, Jazmin Rodriguez one day dreams to become a fashion designer. She doesn't follow trends, as she knows what works on her body type, her type of skin, from cosmetics to clothes. "I don't use full length mirrors at home. I can just look at something and know if it will work or not."

Knowing that New York City is one of the toughest venues to model, she has branched out and travels a lot to Los Angeles, Ibiza, Barcelona, Brazil, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Mexico, and other states. "Every time I travel, I learn something new while looking forward to the next location."

A Model's Take on Greener Fashion
As a model, Jazmin said she's "ecstatic to know that major brands are taking initiative in promoting a healthier planet. The fashion industry should try to promote more of green initiatives and promote awareness to educate consumers on ways the they can conserve and recycle."

Jazmin's passion for modeling is matched by her passion to preserve the planet, and to educate future generations to follow the course on sustainability.

After Fashion Week in New York, Vaiva Style's new collection was featured at the Experience event, which took place at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California.

"I can proudly say that both events were great success for Vaiva Style brand, and I am very much motivated to expand my fashion design business in California and worldwide," Vaiva said with panache and a sustainable focus.
