Michelle Williams And Busy Philipps Are The Ultimate Red Carpet BFFs

0
0

What’s better than walking in front of flashing cameras on a red carpet? Doing it with your best bud by your side.

On Sunday night, Michelle Williams hit the Golden Globes with actress and friend Busy Philipps. The two friends have graced many an award show and movie premiere together, and seeing them again warms our cold, cold hearts. Williams is nominated for Best Supporting Actress, Motion Picture for her turn in the gripping “Manchester by the Sea.” “Manchester” is up for five awards total, including Best Motion Picture, Drama.

She and BFF Philipps showed up on the Globes carpet looking great. Philipps donned a long-sleeved black dress with floral embroidery, and Williams chose a white, floor-length lace gown, accessorized with a trendy choker.

Philipps and Williams starred on “Dawson’s Creek” together toward the end of the teen show’s run from 1998 to 2003, and it’s clear they struck up a friendship to last a lifetime.

At a recent New York screening, Williams told People that Philipps — who was there with the actress — was her “best friend.”

“She’s proof that the love of your life does not have to be a man! That’s the love of my life right there,” Williams said.

Just two weeks ago, Philipps shared an amazing throwback photo of the two on Instagram.

Let’s look back at some of the BFFs memorable red carpet moments:

Tracee Ellis Ross Dedicates Her Golden Globe Win To Hollywood's Underrepresented

Tracee Ellis Ross won Best Actress in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday for her work on ABC’s “Black-ish.”

When she took to the stage, the 44-year-old said she had never attended the Golden Globes before. But she wasted little time while there before dedicating her award to something bigger than herself.

“This is for all the women, women of color and colorful people, whose stories, ideas, thoughts are not always considered worthy and valid and important,” she said. “But I want you to know: I see you. We see you.”

She continued, “It is an honor to be on this show, ‘Black-ish,’ to continue expanding the way we are seen and known and to show the magic and the beauty and the sameness of a story and stories that are outside of where the industry usually looks.”

Ross also took a moment to appreciate that she is able to survive in Hollywood after the age of 40, something many other female actresses have struggled to do. “It’s nice at 44. I like it here. This is great. Thank you,” she said.

Soon after, Miles Brown, who plays Ross’ son, Jack Johnson, on the show, uploaded a video of him celebrating her win on Twitter.

Sarah Paulson & Amanda Peet Kiss On The Golden Globes Red Carpet

Sarah Paulson might be dating actress Holland Taylor, but she was showing her bestie Amanda Peet all the love at the 74th Annual Golden Globes

The duo walked the carpet together on Sunday night and even shared a kiss for the cameras. Little known fact: These two go way back and regularly accompany each other to major Hollywood events. They also attended the Critics’ Choice Awards together in December.

Paulson picked up her first Golden Globe later in the night for her turn as Marcia Clark in the critically acclaimed “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” which is nominated for five awards.

Something tells us another kiss is in Paulson’s future.

Must-See Photos From The Star-Studded 2017 Golden Globe Awards

On Sunday night, Hollywood’s biggest stars gathered for the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards in California.

The night kicked off with a musical montage inspired by “La La Land” and, thanks to some teleprompter issues, was followed by a somewhat awkward monologue by host Jimmy Fallon. The real standout moment from the night came when Meryl Streep accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award. During her speech, the Hollywood icon provided the crowd with an epic takedown of Donald Trump without even mentioning his name. It was hands down the best part of the show and pretty much everyone agreed

Scroll through the photos below to check out more top moments from the annual ceremony:

Lola Kirke Didn't Shave Her Armpits For The Golden Globes. Now Get Over It.

Lola Kirke has no time for critics of her body choices.

The star of Amazon’s “Mozart in the Jungle” and sister of “Girls” actress Jemima Kirke was in attendance at the Golden Globes Sunday and chose to go unshaven for the event.

Because of the world we live in, some people evidently decided that death threats were an appropriate reaction to seeing Kirke live in her natural state. The actress, however, was nothing but graceful and classy in her response.

“Thanks to all you beautiful people who didn’t send me death threats on account of my #awesome #hairyarmpits! You rule,” she wrote alongside an Instagram photo of her red carpet look.

Get it, girl.

35 Wonderfully Candid Photos Of The Duchess Of Cambridge For Her 35th Birthday

The Duchess of Cambridge is pretty much eternally prepared for photos to be taken of her at any moment. It seems to us as though she’s always dressed to the nines and has the hair of a non-human goddess.

Our favorite duchess moments, however, come when she isn’t necessarily posing for the cameras ― playing sports, looking adoringly at Prince William ― you get the point.

In honor of our favorite royal’s 35th birthday on January 9, check out these 35 photos of Kate looking, well, totally normal and adorably candid.

Kendall And Kylie Jenner Eating Pizza At A Golden Globes After-Party Is The Best

Kendall and Kylie Jenner looked like they had a fantastic time at the Golden Globes after-party Sunday night, thanks mainly to pizza.

The reality star sisters were photographed munching on the cheesy snack on a couch in the corner, seemingly loving life, at the bash thrown by Universal, NBC, Focus Features and E! Entertainment at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The two went as each other’s date to the event, and wore matching topknots, too.

Lola Kirke Wore A 'F**k Paul Ryan' Pin On The Golden Globes Red Carpet

“Mozart in the Jungle” star Lola Kirke had her own unique accessory at Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony: a small, pink button pin reading, “Fuck Paul Ryan.”

She wore the pin just three days after Ryan announced the GOP’s plan to defund Planned Parenthood.

Kirke, who also unapologetically rocked unshaven armpits on the red carpet, has actually worked the “Fuck Paul Ryan” pin on more than one glam Hollywood occasion, according to some recent Instagram photos.

She wore the pin to W Magazine’s It Girl luncheon on Saturday:

And here she is rocking the pin at the BAFTA Tea Party on Sunday afternoon before the Golden Globes:

Channing Tatum Shares Photo Of Wife Jenna Dewan Napping In The Nude

On Sunday night, while we were watching reporters ― and Michael Keaton ― talk about “Hidden Fences” and “The Arrival” at the Golden Globe Awards, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan were at home for what seemed like a pretty relaxing, and very naked, night.

The “Magic Mike” actor shared a photo on Instagram of Jenna having a nap in the nude. (Is there any better way to nap?) Channing even added an ~artsy~ flair to the photo, making it black and white.

Channing captioned the pic, “nap time = best time,” and we’d have to agree. Especially if your nap partner is Jenna Dewan.

Nap time = The Best Time

Jenna didn’t stay home all night, though. It appears she was just getting a little power nap in before heading out to a Golden Globes after-party, sans Channing.

As per usual, she looked great.

Emma Stone's Response To The Tired 'What Are You Wearing' Question Is Perfection

Emma Stone sure knows the best way around a hackneyed red carpet question.

The “La La Land” star stopped to speak with Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet ahead of Sunday’s Golden Globes and was, of course, faced with the ever-predictable prompt: “Tell me about your dress.”

Stone, the fabulous wonder that she is, had the perfect reply.

And that's all there is to it.

This 63-Year-Old Fashion Blogger Slays All The Stereotypes

0
0

You might assume there are no 63-year-olds running popular fashion blogs. If so, prepare to get schooled.

Lyn Slater, a university professor and social worker, named her blog Accidental Icon after paparazzi mistook her for a celebrity on the streets of New York City.

Slater happened to be meeting a friend outside a fashion show two years ago, dressed in her usual sleek style, when “all of a sudden I was surrounded by fashion photographers taking my picture, thinking I was some fashion person,” she told HuffPost. “It was really all very accidental.”

The blog she started, however, is highly intentional ― and totally inspiring.

With photos, fashion finds and personal essays, Accidental Icon offers a welcome dose of emotional maturity in a world overrun with twenty-something fashion bloggers. Slater, who prefers the term “influencer” to “fashion blogger,” features shots of herself roaming the NYC streets alongside wise reflections, from her personal definition of feminism to the similarities between quality friends and quality moisturizer.

She posts photos with minimal or no edits, leaving laugh lines, silver hair and wrinkles for all to see. And while that may seem rare in the world of fashion, Slater isn’t even thinking about it.

“Age is not a variable I consider when I am dressing,” she told The Huffington Post. “I think it is quite wonderful that the boundaries in fashion are loosening.”

As are we. Rock on, Lyn.

Why Sofia Vergara Relying On Latina Stereotypes For Laughs Is So Damaging

0
0

I use to love Sofía Vergara. I was proud to call her a fellow Colombian immigrant. I thought she was a positive representation of my country during a time when most Americans seemed to think it was synonymous with cocaine and Pablo Escobar.

I loved that she was beautiful and charming but didn’t take herself too seriously ― a combination that’s made her a darling in the entertainment industry. Her shrewd business sense and ability to juggle numerous endorsement deals, merchandise lines and the Hispanic talent management company, Latin WE have made her the highest paid actress on television for five consecutive years.

Vergara is a self-made businesswoman who has built a profitable and impressive empire. She is well beyond needing to rely on Latina stereotypes for a laugh ― which is why it’s so frustrating to watch her step on screen (or on a revolving Emmy platform) and continually make herself the butt of the joke.

Unfortunately, she did little to change those tendencies at Sunday night’s Golden Globes. While on stage, she made the “mistake” of saying anal instead of annual. She then jokingly corrected herself by saying “anus” before ending the bit she later told Instagram followers she came up with backstage.

Sure, the crowd laughed. Perhaps I would have too if it weren’t for how often she makes her accent the punchline.

A quick search on YouTube of Vergara will surely bring you to a clip of her making a dig at her thick accent. It’s become normal that she and others make fun of the fact that she pronounces things like the name of her favorite football team or Covergirl’s tagline differently.

The habit of using her already hypersexualized figure for laughs is troubling, as well. Vergara, and all Latinas, are more than their bodies or possible sex appeal but her actions on-screen do little to dispel the stereotype. She was willingly objectified during the Emmys in 2014 when she stood on a revolving platform and said her big boobs made her look “like a hooker” at the 2013 SAG awards.

So enough is enough. What Vergara thinks and says of her thick accent and curves is, of course, very much her own business. Yet how she continually portrays it on-screen is problematic for Latinas everywhere.

It wouldn’t matter if Vergara was the only person poking fun at herself, but doing so has given others comedic license to do so as well. And the result is the normalization of laughing at thick accents.

What Vergara thinks and says of her thick accent and curves is, of course, very much her own business. Yet how she continually portrays it on screen is problematic for Latinas everywhere.

Diego Luna very recently proved there is real power in treating accents with respect. When the actor proudly kept his thick accent on the big screen for “Rogue One” he made hundreds of fans, including a Mexican father who became the subject of a viral post, feel represented and proud of their own accents.

I, admittedly, don’t have much of an accent, but I did grow up with a mother who spent decades too ashamed to speak English to others because of hers. My mother fearlessly left her country and family behind to give her two daughters a better life in a country where she knew neither the language nor the culture. She would attend community college courses night after night just to get a better grasp of a language she first began to learn in her late 30s while others never even considered learning a second language in their early 20s.

And it fills me with rage that anyone would think any less of my mother or any other hardworking immigrant in the U.S. based on how they pronounce the word “beach.”

But that is the reality of today, when “Speak English, this is America” and xenophobia is as rampant at a Kentucky mall as it is among politicians.

No, Sofia Vergara isn’t in charge of single-handedly eradicating Latina stereotypes on television, but she sure as hell shouldn’t be a part of the problem. And saying things like “I don’t know why people think stereotypes are so terrible” to a trade publication is only setting us back further.

I only hope the actress realizes the damage she’s doing to those who don’t have the privilege of fame to fall back on every time she makes her accent or her curves the butt of any joke.

Kristen Bell Cheekily Reveals The Butt Pads She Wore To The Golden Globes

Kristen Bell isn’t shy about sharing the tips and tricks that go into her red carpet style

The 36-year-old revealed she was wearing butt pads underneath her gorgeous Jenny Packham gown to the Golden Globes on Sunday.

Bell posed in her flesh-toned butt pads in a cheeky photo shared via her Instagram story on Sunday, as she took fans through every step of her glam process.

Besides adding a little shape, the pads probably made it a little more comfortable to sit at the awards show all night!

The actress also showed fans a make-up free shot of the “before” process, then shared a picture of her wearing a mask while prepping for an “alien abduction.”

After the behind-the-scenes look, Bell rolled up to the Globes red carpet with her husband, Dax Shepard, and looked absolutely stunning.

The couple joked about their post awards show plans on the red carpet, which sounded pretty perfect to us.

“We’re going to play Settlers of Catan roughly at 8 p.m.,” the actor said. “That’s our after-party.”

True to their word, the two shared a picture of them playing later that night:

The Best Advice Elle Fanning Ever Got Was From Nicole Kidman

The cover star of Elle UK’s February issue is none other than actress Elle Fanning, the star of movies like “Maleficent,” “Trumbo,” and the upcoming film “20th Century Women,” which will premiere Feb. 10.

As part of the magazine’s theme on finding happiness, the publication asked readers to send in their personal dilemmas and questions for Fanning to address, and the 18-year-old actress proved wise beyond her years.

When asked about the best advice she’s ever received, Fanning said:

Nicole Kidman told me, “Find your tribe and they’ll always be behind you.” I like that.

Deep stuff, right?

Fanning also provided advice on how to move on from an ex when living in an age dominated by social media, cautioning, “ ... between Snapchat and Instagram, you can see everything — especially them with a new partner. But it’s damaging so you have to stop.”

Even More Proof That Donald Trump Is Wrong About A Dress Shortage In D.C.

0
0

Sunday night, Meryl Streep launched a scathing Golden Globes speech that predictably sent Donald Trump into a tailspin, resulting in him calling her “the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood” (on Twitter, of course).

Monday morning, Trump told the New York Times there will be an “unbelievable, perhaps record-setting turnout for the inauguration,” including “plenty of movie and entertainment stars.”

But here’s the real kicker. He claimed, “All the dress shops are sold out in Washington. It’s hard to find a great dress for this inauguration.”

But really?

Local stores have since confirmed that they do, in fact, have plenty of dresses available for sale. Racked and The Washington Post spoke with a number of employees at both boutiques and department stores, who all agreed with a resounding yes that they have available gowns.

Perhaps Mr. Trump is unfamiliar with the fact that celebrities work with stylists to secure gowns for big events, and that they’re often called in from outside of Washington, D.C.? Or maybe, despite his keen sense of how the internet works, he has ruled out online shopping?

Just to give him the benefit of the doubt, we took things one step further and tracked down some dresses currently in stock and available for purchase at locations in Washington. For example, just these three dresses alone were confirmed to be available at D.C.-area Bloomingdale’s locations, and there are plenty more where they came from.

Of course, it appears most people are ignoring the most jarring aspect of this whole thing: The fact that Trump still calls them “dress shops.”

Here's The Makeup That'll Make You Look Filtered In Real Life

0
0

It’s next to impossible to wake up like this:

But, we’ll be damned if we don’t try.

Thankfully, the beauty industry understands this struggle and we’re not left to our own devices. They are readily producing items that make us look #flawless.

We’ve rounded up some of our favorites that’ll make your money-maker look as if it already has the Instagram filter you were going to throw on it.

1. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Primer Oil-Free Poreless Skin-Perfecting Serum Primer, $38

The name on this is a doozy, we know, but it delivers serious smoothness. A little of this primer goes a long way to give skin an even, matte finish.

2. Milk Makeup Blur Stick, $36

Makeup sticks can’t get much easier to apply and this one is sure to be a throw-in-your-bag-and-go item from the second you try it. It has an unreal soft texture that, well, blurs your pores and fine lines. The coverage is slight enough to not be noticeable up close, no matter how much you put on. Bonus: the formula is vegan, oil-free and silicone free.

3. Vita Liberata Body Blur Instant HD Skin Finish, $45

You can use this light-reflecting cream on your face, arms, legs, stomach, etc. It’s a miracle worker on every surface.

4. Becca Backlight Priming Filter, $38

Another product sans silicone, this baby will add gorgeous diffused light to your face. The crushed pearls in it are what give you a perfect glow.

5. Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation, $43

Have you tried #UltraHDfoundation in stick? Easy to apply, easy to carry, #flawless result. Invisible Makeup. Visible Perfection. #makeupforever #BEYOU

A photo posted by MAKE UP FOR EVER OFFICIAL (@makeupforeverofficial) on

Lovers of liquid foundation, do not be deterred because this stick will challenge everything you thought you knew about coverage. With its totally buildable formula, the “amino acid coated pigments” in this stuff leave skin looking natural and not at all cake-y.

6. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, $46

This is arguably our holy grail item (we don’t leave home without it). This finishing powder has “color-correcting particles” that promise to refract light and “create transparent coverage.” It also makes any bit of makeup underneath it look perfectly blended and stay put for the long haul.

SJP was a vision in a white Vera Wang gown with draped sleeves and a braided updo that was in part an homage to the late Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia character from Star Wars.

Ivanka Trump Reportedly Cuts Ties To Her Fashion Brand

0
0

Ivanka Trump has reportedly stepped down from her eponymous fashion brand.

After distancing herself on social media from the clothing, shoe and accessories line that bears her name back in November 2016, the president elect’s daughter has cut ties ahead of her father’s inauguration on Jan. 20.

The move comes just as news broke that her husband, Jared Kushner, would leave his own position as publisher of the New York Observer and chief executive of Kushner Properties to hold a senior advisor role in Donald Trump’s White House, sparking concern that such a role would break the anti-nepotism law passed in 1967

Vanity Fair reports that in resigning from both her post at the brand and her role in the Trump Organization, Ivanka will have restructured “participation in Trump Organization transactions” that will make it so “she no longer benefits from the profits. Instead, she will get a fixed series of payments from the revenue of a spate of projects. She will also recuse from participating in her interest in the Trump International Hotel in Washington, along with her interest in her brand.”

It makes, according to Vanity Fair, “their kingmaker look self-serving, opaque and unethical, by comparison.” As a refresher, Donald Trump has yet to address his many conflicts of interest in public, and postponed a recent press conference in which he was slated to do so. He is expected to give that conference Wednesday.

Ivanka made this move despite, according to the New York Times, having no “immediate plans to enter the administration,” though she will no doubt play a large role in the administration, as she did on the campaign trail.

It’s unclear if the move, which frees Ivanka from a brand that has faced boycott and negative press both during the campaign and since the election, will do anything to improve the brand’s image.

The Huffington Post reached out to Ivanka Trump’s brand, who declined to offer an official comment.

Dove Celebrates 60th Birthday By Highlighting Its Most Iconic, Inclusive Ads

0

We’re happy to say that in 2017, it’s not groundbreaking to see a beauty or fashion ad that celebrates inclusivity. Back in 2004 though, Dove’s groundbreaking “Real Beauty” campaign paved the way for more advertisements that embraced a different standard of beauty ― both from the brand and competing brands alike.

Now, 60 years after Dove first debuted its iconic beauty bar, it’s looking back at its celebration and empowerment of women to love their true selves. A new video and special-edition bar engraved with the word “care” was released Tuesday to celebrate its six decades in production.

Memorable ads such as “Real Beauty” and later “Evolution” have changed the way Dove has sold products. But beyond that, Dove has thusly changed its relationship with its community beyond just the consumer.

In 2004, Dove launched a fund for Boys & Girls Club of America and the Girl Scouts, which The Huffington Post reported in 2014 was made “to organize activities including discussions about online bullying and photography projects capturing the beauty girls see in the world around them.”

In a release from the brand, vice president of marketing Nick Soukas explained that while the new ad is a celebration of Dove’s work thus far, it has no plans to waver its stance on celebrating all women. “Together with generations of women, Dove has helped widen the definition of beauty, but there’s always more work to be done,” said Soukas. “We remain committed to redefining beauty, challenging stereotypes, and celebrating what makes women unique for the next 60 years.”

To the next 60 years, indeed. Check out the short-but-sweet and empowering ad above.
