Patagonia Is Gearing Up For War With Utah Republicans Over National Monument

$

Patagonia last year spent $1 million on a get-out-the-vote campaign, completely shut down its operations on Election Day and donated all $10 million it earned on Black Friday to environmental causes.

Now, the high-end outdoor apparel retailer is gearing up to battle Utah officials’ plan to roll back President Barack Obama’s designation of a new national monument in the state. The company this week threatened to pull out of Salt Lake City’s biannual Outdoor Retailer Show, a trade show that brings in 45,000 visitors spending more than $40 million each year.

“We’re going to fight with everything that we have,” Rose Marcario, Patagonia’s chief executive, told The Huffington Post by phone on Thursday. “What we have is our economic power and the ability to withdraw from it if we need to.”

She’s not alone. Peter Metcalf, chief executive of the outdoor gear giant Black Diamond Equipment, issued a call to arms on Tuesday urging the trade show, which he helped bring to Utah 20 years ago, to leave the state in protest.

“Gov. Gary Herbert and Utah’s D.C. delegation are leading a national all-out assault on the sanctity of Utah and the country’s public lands,” Metcalf, who lives in Utah, wrote in the op-ed published Tuesday in The Salt Lake Tribune. “This agenda is antithetical to our industry, let alone the majority of our citizens regardless of party affiliation.”

The Outdoor Industry Association, which organizes the show, did not return a call requesting comment, but told Hatch Magazine it would “continue to listen to members and show attendee feedback on ... the appropriate venue for the show.”

Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes (R) vowed to sue the White House last month after Obama set aside 1.35 million acres, including sacred tribal lands, to become Bears Ears National Monument. The Navajo Nation and conservationists alike hailed the designation as a victory. But Reyes, later joined by the state’s Republican governor and lawmakers in Washington, D.C., denounced the move as a federal land grab. Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT) urged President-elect Donald Trump to reverse the designation under the 1906 Antiquities Act.

The statute does not explicitly prohibit a president from completely scrapping a previously designated monument, The Salt Lake City Tribune noted. But legal research suggests that though presidents can adjust a prior designation, they cannot outright abolish it.

“No president has ever abolished or revoked a national monument proclamation, so the existence or scope of any such authority has not been tested in courts,” an analysis published last month by the Congressional Research Service stated. “However, some legal analyses since at least the 1930s have concluded that the Antiquities Act, by its terms, does not authorize the president to repeal proclamations, and that the president also lacks implied authority to do so.”

Obama may be among the most frequent users of the Antiquities Act, invoking it 26 times during his two terms to designate or enlarge monuments, mostly in the deserts of the southwest. But nearly every president since Theodore Roosevelt has applied the law to preserve tribal lands and natural treasures. Only Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush declined to use the law, according to The Wilderness Society.

“Conservation is really a bipartisan issue,” Marcario said. “It doesn’t have to become so polarized.”

Patagonia has long been a darling of conservationists. Founded in 1973 by rock climber and environmentalist Yvon Chouinard, the privately-held firm placed nature and climate stewardship at the core of the brand. The company donates 1 percent of sales each year to green causes. In 2011, Patagonia, in opposition to the fashion industry’s wasteful culture, began urging shoppers to buy fewer of its jackets and make the ones they have last. That same year, the company certified as a benefit corporation, forcing it to adhere to strict environmental and corporate responsibility standards. In March, the firm led a $35 million investment into a fund that helps pay for rooftop solar installations across the country.

To be sure, Patagonia has its faults. Internal audits found human trafficking and child labor in the company’s supply chain as recently as 2011. Since then, the retailer has been working to root out labor violations, which occurred mostly at factories in Taiwan, where several of the company’s second-tier mills are located.

The Ventura, California-based retailer insists its political efforts are nonpartisan. But given the Republican Party’s close ties to heavily polluting industries and history of denying the science behind climate change, Patagonia’s politics fall firmly on one side of the divide. Employees at the company have given a total of $54,317 to the Democratic Party over the last 27 years, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics. Republicans, by contrast, received just one $500 donation in 1990.

Marcario has yet to meet with any officials from the incoming Trump administration, she said. But she is concerned about the nomination of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt (R), who has alarmingly deep ties to the oil and gas industry, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, a bureau he has spent much of his recent career suing. Secretary of state hopeful Rex Tillerson, the former chief executive of Exxon Mobil Corp., worries her, too.

“We’re getting some very clear signals,” she said. “There’s a lot of discussions around deregulation of really basic things that I think every American should be concerned about that affect air, water and soil. We’ll fight each of those fights where we see that we’ll have the most impact.”

Kylie Jenner Debuts Her First New Hair Transformation Of 2017

It took a record-breaking 12 days for Kylie Jenner to debut her first new ‘do of 2017.

If you had “platinum bob” in your Kylie Jenner hair draft, you may now collect your winnings. Jenner showed off her brand new shiny blonde locks on Instagram Thursday.

A photo posted by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

The 19-year-old reality star previously went blonde for the first time in September of last year. Jenner has also experimented with red, rose gold and navy blue hair in the past.

Several outlets have speculated that Jenner’s new ‘do is simply a blonde wig. Allure reports that the look is a wig styled by Tokyo Stylez, the artist who personalizes most of Jenner’s wig collection for her.

All we know is that nothing gold can stay, and neither can any of Jenner’s hairstyles for very long. Keep your eyes peeled for the next hair transformation from King Kylie ― you can bet it will be epic.

'Fantastic Four' Co-Stars Jamie Bell And Kate Mara Are Engaged

At least one good thing came out of the disastrous 2015 reboot of “Fantastic Four.”

Cast members Jamie Bell and Kata Mara met while on the film and are now engaged, a rep for the actress confirmed to E! on Friday.

Bell, 30, and Mara, 33, have been a thing since the fall of 2015, according to People.

And although Bell told E! last March that they were not planning a trip down the aisle, things must have changed because Mara posted a photo on Twitter last week where she was sporting a superhero-sized ring.

No wedding date has been announced.

This will be the first marriage for Ms. Mara and the second for Bell, who separated from his first wife, Evan Rachel Wood, in May 2014. Bell has a son from that marriage.

These Honest 'Parenting Support' Cards Say What Parents Really Need To Hear

There are greeting cards that congratulate new parents and parents-to-be on their growing families. So it makes sense that there should also be cards that acknowledge breast pumping, sleep deprivation and the other trials of raising children.

This week, greeting card designer Emily McDowell launched a new line of “Parenting Support” cards. The line features cards with messages like “You’re not a monster. Parenting is really hard” and “Hang in there, you’re doing great.”

”Parenting is really hard, and yet it’s frowned upon to publicly admit anything about it that could be perceived as negative, because of the fear that we’ll be judged as not loving our children enough, or pegged as a ‘bad mom,’” McDowell told The Huffington Post

“There’s a well-worn set of cultural expectations about how parents are supposed to feel about the experience of parenting, and women in particular get hammered with it, both from other people and within ourselves,” she added. “When reality doesn’t live up to those expectations, we end up with tremendous guilt and shame, and secretly concluding that ‘there must be something wrong with me’ ― which of course isn’t true.”

McDowell is a stepparent to an 11-year-old boy and also has two very young godsons. She told HuffPost her godsons’ mother has been her best friend for 25 years and served as “unofficial consultant” for her “Parenting Support” cards.

The designer said she wants her cards to have an impact on people in the throes of parenting.

“I hope parents who receive these cards (or even see them!) can feel a sense of relief and reassurance that they’re not failing, they’re not alone, and it’s totally normal and OK to both love your kid and have complicated feelings about being a mom or dad,” McDowell explained.

”Someone commented on my Instagram last week that she’d bought herself a whole set of our Empathy Cards (for serious illness and loss), not to send out, but to keep and look at when she wanted to feel understood,” she added. “I hope these can serve a similar purpose for parents.”

McDowell has three “Parenting Support” cards available on her website and is currently in the process of creating more. The next batch will focus on the way your relationship with your partner changes after having kids, issues of identity struggles and finding humor in parenting situations, from caring for infants to raising teenagers.

Said McDowell, “This is a hugely broad topic, and I’m really looking forward to finding different ways to look at it.”

Sephora Is Selling An Eyeshadow Named 'Druggie'

There are moments when it’s important to marshal as much evidence as possible to back up an argument. And then there are moments like this.

Sephora is selling a new shade of eyeshadow called “Druggie.

The company describes the shade as “metallic purple with violet shift,” and it is part of Urban Decay’s “Afterdark” eyeshadow palette. Now, we get that fashion is an art form, even in a globally commodified context, and far be it for us to stomp on creative expression.

But by the time you have finished reading this article, it’s likely that somebody in the United States will have died of an opioid overdose. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 500 people, many of them young, are dying every week. Every 15 minutes, a new dead body is turning up in an emergency room, making orphans of children, breaking the hearts of parents and grandparents, the scourge of an entire generation.

Responding to complaints, Sephora has apologized but has not said it will drop the name. “We deeply apologize to anyone who was offended by the name of this shade. Please DM us for more information,” the company tweeted Friday in reply to a protest.

When reached by The Huffington Post, Sephora had this to say: “We deeply apologize to anyone who was offended by the name of this shade. We would never seek to do that. The shade was in a limited edition palette and was not planned to be re-ordered.”

HuffPost has reached out to Urban Decay and is awaiting comment.

Ryan Hampton, a recovery advocate for Facing Addiction told HuffPost that, while the apology is “a step in the right direction, Sephora clearly needs an education on substance use disorders. The recovery community is standing at the ready, and it’s our hope that their CEO not only pulls this product immediately but joins the national fight to face addiction.”

Still, Urban Decay’s ‘Druggie’ eyeshadow points out a big problem in the fashion and beauty industries, which have long histories of glamorizing addiction, even in the midst of the nation’s drug epidemic.

Hampton told HuffPost that Sephora said it would be meeting next week to decide how to handle the situation.

In the meantime, here’s a petition to help nudge them in the right direction.

This Photo Has The Internet Wondering Where Kendall Jenner's Leg Went

Another day, another head-scratching internet photo.

Just weeks after a viral Reddit photo stumped the internet, Kendall Jenner is the subject of a new perplexing pic. The photo in question was taken at a Golden Globes after-party and posted to Instagram by InStyle last week, as Jenner partied beside sister Kylie and Hailey Baldwin. But the snapshot has been gaining more attention as people ponder about Jenner’s leg.

Where did it go?

gang's all here! Hello, @HaileyBaldwin, @KylieJenner, @KendallJenner : @kevintachman #InStyleGlobes #GoldenGlobes

A photo posted by instylemagazine (@instylemagazine) on

While most commenters asked about the absent limb in the “trippy” photo, one Instagram user surmised that Jenner’s legs were crossed and one simply “disappeared” under her gown.

“Kendall’s leg is in the dress and her legs are crossed! Her other leg is under the one that is showing it’s just under the fabric lollll,” the sleuth wrote.

In other photos from the night, both of Jenner’s legs were very much visible.

Puzzling.

Why I Canceled My Order From L.L. Bean

$

Dear L.L. Bean,

When I lost my favorite pair of L.L. Bean rag wool gloves last week, I immediately purchased a replacement pair online. Chronically prone to losing my gloves, I even bought an extra pair.

I’d like to explain why I canceled that order.

I’ve been a customer of Bean’s for nearly 40 years—since the days when the clothes in your catalog were modeled by staff members in the office parking lot in Freeport, Maine.

I even worked as a technology consultant to L.L. Bean in the 1990s when the catalog was integrating its first workflow software. I was told all about “Beanness”—the company’s expression of its unique culture and its guiding philosophy—and was taken on a tour of your fulfillment center. I still have the Swiss Army knife I purchased from the outlet store afterward.

I’ve played chamber music at summer festivals hosted by the University of Maine at Orono and by the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, where I fell in love with the state’s rocky coastline; since then, I’ve always been happy to support Maine-based businesses. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on Bean merchandise over the years.

And I’ve always been willing to look the other way when Bean family members spouted lies, supported right-wing candidates whose beliefs were antithetical to my own, and endorsed right-wing causes that directly threatened me, my family, and my friends.

But this time things have gone too far.

Linda Bean, one of your founder’s granddaughters, donated a lot of money to Donald Trump’s campaign (donations that turned out to be legally questionable), moving our president-elect to give the company a shout-out Jan. 12 via yet another clumsy, impetuous presidential tweet.

In response to a swift backlash, L.L. Bean has countered that the company itself “does not endorse political candidates, take positions on political matters, or make political contributions. Simply put, we stay out of politics.”

It seems like Donald Trump didn’t get that memo. And when the president-elect devotes 140 characters to exhort his Twitter followers to buy your products, it’s too late for a declaration of political neutrality, as other retailers are no doubt realizing.

Trump is not just another right-wing politician: he is a national disgrace uniquely unfit for the office of president of the United States. Beyond his politics, he is a dangerous, careless egotist who threatens our very democracy. I am a lifelong Democrat, but I would not have supported his candidacy if he were a member of my own party.

... when the president-elect devotes 140 characters to exhort his Twitter followers to buy your products, it’s too late for a declaration of political neutrality, as other retailers are no doubt realizing.

Most families have members who disagree with one another politically, and the Bean family is no exception, as I know L.L. Bean’s Executive Chairman Shawn Gorman has noted in the past. But like it or not, Bean family members are representatives of and ambassadors for their family-owned business.

Linda Bean has certainly not shied away from this role. Whereas other Beans have been wisely circumspect about their political donations—both rightward and leftward—Linda Bean, a two-time Republican Congressional candidate, last week told Fox & Friends that calls for a boycott by “a small kernel of hardcore bullies out on the Left Coast” have actually resulted in “a slight uptick in our business.”

She sure sounds like a company spokesperson to me.

Linda Bean is, of course, free to do what she pleases with her share of the profits from L.L. Bean, and to support the politicians whom she chooses. But I won’t help her do so any longer. The return of two $30 pairs of gloves will not impress Linda Bean or move the needle at L.L. Bean, but it makes a big difference to me.

Linda Bean is, of course, free to do what she pleases with her share of the profits from L.L. Bean, and to support the politicians whom she chooses. But I won’t help her do so any longer.

Twitter seems to be our next president’s favorite medium. Since L.L. Bean is apolitical and does not endorse Donald Trump, perhaps you should tweet your repudiation of his endorsement of L.L. Bean.

Until then, I’ll find a different place to shop for gloves. Because currently, it seems like support for fascists is now a quality of “Beanness.”

Sincerely,

Andrew Miller

Machine Learning and Fashion: The New Fashion of the Times

$

2017-01-16-1484592318-6280120-machine_learning.jpg

We owe an overdue acknowledgment to a transformation in technology, as well as a revolution (more about below) in fashion, where the former makes the latter the new fashion of the times, so to speak. I refer, specifically, to the rise of machine learning and its ongoing influence—for the good of businesses and consumers alike—across a multitude of industries. It is this intuitive-like sense of wisdom, because we are beyond mere matters of intelligence (artificial or otherwise), which will create a more intimate relationship on behalf of users, shoppers and executives, among others.

According to Greg Corrado, a senior research scientist at Google:

"Before Internet technologies, if you worked in computer science, networking was some weird thing that weirdos did. And now everyone, regardless of whether they're an engineer or a software developer or a product designer or a CEO understands how Internet connectivity shapes their product, shapes the market, what they could possibly build."

It is that potential—it is this reality—that marks a major milestone in the personalization of technology because the subject itself is impersonal and abstract. Those scientists and entrepreneurs who manage to showcase the practical benefits of this shift, among those who convey this point to the public at large, will make all manner of software and customized search more accurate and exhaustive.

As Mike Yeomans, a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Economics at Harvard University, explains in this article in the Harvard Business Review:

"Consider an online retailer's database of customers in a spreadsheet. Each customer gets a row, and if there are lots of customers then the dataset will be long. However, every variable in the data gets its own column, too, and we can now collect so much data on every customer—purchase history, browser history, mouse clicks, text from reviews—that the data are usually wide as well, to the point where there are even more columns than rows. Most of the tools in machine learning are designed to make better use of wide data."

Making better use of that data is the way companies can achieve greater connectivity—in every way—between themselves and the customers they seek to serve. In this regard, the impersonal nature of technology becomes the personal face of a collection of technologies that changes the binary language of so many ones and zeroes into the vernacular of the everyday consumer and the considerations of even the most discriminating buyers.

One pioneer at the forefront of these events is Jay Rao, Co-Founder of Obsessory.com, a platform that helps shoppers discover, compare and review everything—or almost everything—under the category of fashion. Rao says:

"Machine learning is the next stage in a much larger advance toward enhancing the depth and breadth of individual searches for various goods and services. By continuously refining these results, and by presenting users with the most relevant selection of items, consumers get what they want—they get what they would not otherwise know they want—from the cataloging of millions of products on a daily basis.

"The subsequent experience for users is an immersive one: It curates products, highlights each consumer's favorite designers and even suggests styling looks. Call it data with its own designer, of proprietary algorithms and patented gowns and dresses."

We should champion machine learning as a symbol of progress, which offers greater convenience and more accurate search results than the status quo.

These accomplishments are not fads, far from it, as they represent—and as I reiterate once more that they are—the fashion of the times.

Welcome to the triumph of technology.

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards is not about to be left out of all the “Pussy Hat” knitting fun.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Richards took a photo of her hot pink ball of yarn in front of an instructional YouTube video to show her support for the hats ― and her attempt at making her own.

“On my way to the immigration march in Washington this morning,” she wrote in the caption, “and using the train ride to learn how to knit my own pink hat for the Women’s March next Saturday!”

The “Pussyhat Project” was launched over Thanksgiving by screenwriter Krista Suh and architect Jayna Zweiman. The Huffington Post reported earlier this month that the women created the pattern for the cat-eared beanies as they were recovering from the aftershock of Trump’s win. Thousands have gone on to knit the hats as well ― including Richards.

“I was so inspired by the women producers @thedailyshow who were knitting theirs the other night,” she wrote, “I figured why not try myself!”

This Unicorn Hair Is The Definition Of Extra

We all love a good rainbow dye-job. But when the hairstyle actually involves a styrofoam unicorn horn, well, that’s just a line we won’t cross.

Watch the video below to see the mad scientists at Turnt Beauty take rainbow hair one step too far.

The video starts out adorably enough. The hairstylist dyes her client’s hair various shades of pink, blue and purple and curls it into beautiful ringlets. But then, the nightmare begins.

Yep. That’s a unicorn horn.

We’re crossing our fingers that this particular hairstyle doesn’t catch on. It’s hard enough to make our hair presentable in the morning without adding styrofoam props to the mix.

If you’re getting a head start on your Halloween costume, or you’re simply THAT extra, allow this video to assist you. Otherwise, we’d recommend the far more practical hidden rainbow trend.

This Simple Device Solves A Major Problem For Pierced Ears

Years of wearing heavy earrings can stretch your ear piercings and make your earrings droop. While getting a surgical “lobe lift” is one option, surgery isn’t for everyone. With the help of a more supportive earring back, you can ease the pressure on your lobes and get rid of that saggy look.

Earring backs that are specifically designed to keep your earrings lifted, like Levears, can help your earrings sit more comfortably. Levears’ patented earring backs claim to “leverage the part of your ear above the pierced hole” to distribute the weight of your earrings across a larger area of your ear. Ultimately it aims to alleviate the stress on your actual piercing hole and lift your earring at the same time.

Check out the video below to watch the Levears in action.

Fashion's Iconoclast: Six Questions for Teppei Fujita of Sulvam

2017-01-17-1484651873-1959420-WelcometoSulvam002.jpg

Beloved street style photographer Bill Cunningham once said that "fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life." With that saying always in my back pocket, I watched Japanese designer Teppei Fujita's latest collection for his brand Sulvam expecting to be shaken up by his looks.

What I didn't expect was that the Nina who sat down for the Sulvam Fall 2017 show would not be the same woman who got up immediately after it. I was changed, exhilarated, inspired and in love.

2017-01-17-1484651930-5490706-SULVAM001.jpg

So how does a fashion brand, or better a designer do that, change the world? By creating an armor, to quote the late Mr. Cunningham, that not only protects against the chaos of humanity at the moment, but also feels like couture -- something precious and unique to the wearer. Even owning the shoe laces that were tied strategically around his models' ankles and hung from their necks -- and which were used as ribbons for the giveaway black scarves we found on our seats before the show -- felt like I was getting a piece of unique, wonderful Sulvam style.

2017-01-17-1484652188-7928854-IMG_3905.jpg

I could not resist having my photo taken with Fujita, who is taller than I expected in real life, and sports a striking tattoo in black ink on his chest. His voice is strong and self assured, and while our conversation may have been lost in translation, I still felt like we communicated via our clothes. Through our personal style, which is how so much non-verbal communication comes across.

2017-01-17-1484652270-4372426-SULVAM005.jpg

Probably the fact that Sulvam is a brand that cuts across barriers, crosses effortlessly borders of language, culture and gender so perfectly didn't hurt. Easily interchangeable between male and female models, most of the looks shown inside the Stazione Leopolda for the presentation at this season's Pitti Uomo in Florence were awe-inspiring but also crave-worthy. And what Fujita himself wore, with that peak of red bandana showing through the elegant black and white, was fashion genius.

2017-01-17-1484652307-2736605-SULVAM0062.jpg

And now to a final thought, before leaving you with his Q & A, a short but sweet taste of the wonder that is Teppei Fujita. What if our strongest armor turned out to be the softest lining and the sheer essence of the easiest black suit? Or maybe camouflage reinvented could protect us in the world at large, by creating a cocoon like the one shaped by this coat (pictured above). Whatever the answer, fashion, what you wear, will always change the way you feel and thus, the way you interact with the humanity around you. So choose wisely, dress to suit yourself, before you venture out into the world.

What are some things from your collection for Fall '17 that we can begin to use in our everyday life?

Teppei Fujita: Everything. In particular, the shoelaces and the long belts.

What was your inspiration for this particular collection?

Fujita: I didn't have any particular inspiration but I always make clothes to match whatever comes up in my mind and whatever my mood is.

Do you listen to music while you're creating?

Fujita: Yes. Old music. I like hip hop, rap and also jazz and house music. The older the better.

Do you listen to music while you sketch?

Fujita: I don't sketch! I drape and make patterns but I don't "design".

If you had to describe yourself to someone who doesn't know you, what would you say?

Fujita: I do everything by my mood. Whatever comes up in my mind, I do.

So you'd say you're very impulsive and instinctual?

Fujita: Yes. I like people a lot. (There is a laugh shared between Fujita and his translator and then, as if on cue, he says...) And I like girls too!

A First Lady Style Faceoff Between Michelle Obama And Jackie Kennedy

Vanity Fair once wrote that comparisons between Michelle Obama and Jacqueline Kennedy were “inevitable,” citing them as “two elegant women, catapulted into the national spotlight by their charismatic, ambitious husbands.”

Americans were captivated by Kennedy and continue to be with Obama for a number of reasons, but you cannot draw similarities between these two women without acknowledging their shared keen sense of style. Whether on a trip to Hawaii or at an inaugural event, both Obama and Kennedy exhibited excellence in dressing the part as first lady.

In honor of Obama’s 53rd birthday today and ahead of Friday’s inauguration, we look back at the two first ladies’ different ― but equally iconic ― styles.

Kim K. And Kendall Jenner Rock Sheer Gowns For Their 'Ocean's Eight' Cameo

“Ocean’s Eight” is shaping up to be a movie for everyone ― even “Keeping up with the Kardashians” fans.

Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner were spotted all dressed up in New York City Monday night, heading to film a cameo for the upcoming all-female reboot.

Jenner was clad in a sheer, intricately detailed high-neck gown, while Kardashian wore a see-through dress with a fur coat. In other words, they looked exactly how you’d imagine they would look in a movie cameo (or any other circumstance, for that matter).

Reports say their appearance in the movie is part of a “crucial scene” involving the Met Gala. But the sisters’ looks actually remind us more of what the entire family wore to Kanye West’s New York Fashion Week show in February 2016.

Not gonna lie, this development just made us almost as excited for the film as those photos of Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway on the subway

Someone Give The Duchess Of Cambridge A Pantene Campaign Already

Two words: Hair. Goals.

The Duchess of Cambridge gave a speech alongside Prince William and Prince Harry in London Monday as part of their ongoing “Heads Together” campaign to end mental illness stigma.

The former Kate Middleton looked lovely as usual in a long-sleeved, floral Erdem dress. We almost didn’t notice it as we were too busy trying to figure out how to achieve these voluminous levels of hair greatness.

It is seriously magical.

Kate’s hair is likely rooted in good genetics and a team of professionals, but hey, we can dream!

Ralph Lauren Is Reportedly Dressing Melania Trump For The Inauguration

With the inauguration only days away, reports are buzzing over who will dress Melania Trump (along with, you know, whether Donald Trump had contact with Russia during the election, and whether Trump will wear L.L. Bean to any events, etc.).

According to Women’s Wear Daily, designer Ralph Lauren will reportedly dress the future first lady, despite the fact that he supported (and also dressed) Hillary Clinton throughout the election.

The designer is reportedly also working on additional pieces for Trump to wear throughout the inauguration week, WWD says, as well as a few pieces for the rest of the family. The Huffington Post reached out to representatives for Ralph Lauren and will update this piece accordingly.

Melania Trump has already memorably worn the designer on two occasions. In October she showed up to the third presidential debate in a black “pussybow” jumpsuit from the designer, days after Donald Trump’s “grab them by the pussy” comments from 2005 leaked:

She then wore a white, one-shoulder jumpsuit from Ralph Lauren for election night in November.

WWD says the Future FLOTUS bought her white outfit from the Ralph Lauren store in NYC (rather than it being given to her by the designer himself).

Many designers have publicly stated that they will never dress Melania Trump, including French designer Sophie Theallet, Tom Ford, Derek Lam, Marc Jacobs and Phillip Lim.

Kylie Jenner is putting her money where her mouth is.

The 19-year-old reality star has turned her luscious lips into a cosmetics empire with the wildly popular Kylie Lip Kits. Jenner recently released an exclusive lip kit called “Smile,” which has netted nearly half a million dollars for charity.

All of the proceeds from Jenner’s “Smile” lip kit go to Smile Train, a charity that treats children with cleft lips and palates in developing countries. Smile Train teaches local doctors how to perform cleft repair surgeries, and offers these surgeries for free in over 85 countries.

The “Smile” lip kit has had two limited releases. The first sale in October raised approximately $159,000, and this month’s second run upped the total earnings to nearly $500,000.

Proud mom Kris Jenner congratulated her daughter on her sizable charitable contribution.

People reports that Jenner’s donation will fund 1,800 cleft repair surgeries for children in need.

No word yet on whether Kylie Cosmetics plans to restock its sold-out “Smile” shade. In the meantime, you can donate to Smile Train directly.

Dad Of First Male Maybelline Model Has Perfect Response To Bigoted Blogger

Manny Gutierrez is a brilliantly talented makeup artist, a YouTube star, a Maybelline model and the son of a pretty awesome dad.

Earlier this month, Maybelline announced it had chosen Gutierrez as the brand’s first-ever male ambassador. Fans of the former med student, who boasts over 3 million followers on Instagram, were thrilled he is the new face for Big Shot mascara.

But, of course, some haters had to have their say and tried to ruin the groundbreaking moment.

Matt Walsh, a “christian columnist and political incendiary” who writes for The Blaze, tweeted a homophobic message about parenting using a photo of Gutierrez.

In response, Gutierrez made it clear that his dad is not only “there” for him, he’s also overwhelmingly proud of him and currently works for the model as well.

Gutierrez also offered his own awesome definition of what it means to be a “man”:

But the Maybelline star wasn’t the only one with a message for Walsh. Gutierrez’s his dad had his own powerful reply for the blogger.

“I know the words you speak are from lack of knowing anybody from the LGBT community,” he wrote in a text message screenshot shared by Gutierrez Saturday. “If you did, you would soon realize they are some of the most real and kind hearted individuals that walk this planet of ours. Going forward, I would choose your actions and words wisely. Just like you would do anything for your family, I would DO for mine.”

You can take that seat now, Matt.

Bob Dylan's Grandson Levi Is One Very Handsome Model

It’s not uncommon for the children and grandchildren of celebrities to pursue similar paths as their famous relatives. And it appears that model Levi Dylan, son of Jakob Dylan and grandson of Bob Dylan, is anything but a wallflower

The younger Dylan walked in Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall/Winter 2017 fashion show in Milan on Tuesday, looking downright babely in a double-breasted jacket, a pair of glasses and buckled shoes.

Dylan told The Cut back in August 2016 that he wouldn’t do runway work because “those guys are really tall,” but changed his tune to walk alongside other famous offspring like Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s son Brandon Lee, Jude Law’s son Rafferty and Cindy Crawford’s son, Presley Gerber.

The show is not the 22-year-old’s first foray into the modeling world. Dylan has posed for Wonderland Magazine and Vogue Italia, crediting his photographer girlfriend Alana O’Herlihy with introducing him to the industry.

He has also appeared at Fashion Week before, but it’s pretty clear from his latest gig that he belongs on the runway, not on the sidelines.
