Katy Perry Debuts A Suspiciously Trump-Like Hairdo

$

0

Is Katy Perry getting political with her latest hairstyle?

The “Roar” singer debuted her brand new blonde locks at an art exhibit on Saturday. The style is two-toned, with streaks of bleach blonde running through a decidedly Cheeto-orange hue.

Several sites have speculated that the color pokes fun at President-elect Donald Trump. Given that Perry campaigned for Hillary Clinton and posed with Sham Ibrahim’s provocative portrait of Trump as a baby in diapers, we think those sites might be on to something.

The new look is the latest in a long line of major hair transformations for Perry. The star has a penchant for bright hair colors and a formidable collection of wigs. No word yet on whether this hairdo is a dye job or a wig.

Perry will be performing at the Women’s March on Washington event this weekend. If you’ll be attending the anti-Trump march in Washington, D.C., keep your eyes peeled for Perry’s flaming locks.

What Bra To Wear With 6 Of Spring's Biggest Trends

$

For Glamour, by Megan Gustashaw.

Any woman who’s had an outfit ruined by an annoying lack of undergarment options can confirm that when it comes to your bra collection, diversity is king. Especially right now, given the number of unique trends coming down the line for spring 2017 that require the right bra to pull them off. The good news: You probably have most of these bras sitting in your undie drawer right now. If not, we suggest doing a restock — they’re all super versatile and can found at every price point and cup size. Read on to see which ones pair best with six of our favorite spring 2017 trends.

The Spring Trend: One-Shoulder Tops and Dresses

We called this look one of Spring 2017’s most wearable trends for a reason; though it shows a bit of skin, practically any body type — and any bust size — can pull it off.

Wear Underneath: Strapless Bras

Most one-shoulder tops and dresses should do fine with a standard-issue strapless bra. Go for a no-frills seamless style that'll create a smooth line. From top: Aerie, $28, at ae.com; Calvin Klein, $45, at net-a-porter.com; Nubian Skin, $60, at nordstrom.com

The Spring Trend: Thin Slogan Tees

Vintage-inspired slogan T-shirts are going to be everywhere this spring, and unless you're going for that whole visible nipple thing, you'll need the right bra.

Wear Underneath: T-Shirt Bras

T-shirt bras — an oldie but goodie — will keep the lines under your paper-thin T-shirt smooth while giving your bust a bit of support and soft shape.

From left: Gap, $23 (Was $40), available at gap.com; Calvin Klein, $38, available at farfetch.com

The Trend: Sheer Dresses and Blouses

While the see-through trend is undeniably sexy, figuring out how to layer up for the real world without defeating the purpose of the look in the first place, takes a minute. It also takes the right bra.

Wear Underneath: Luxe Lingerie

Your best bet when it comes to sheer tops and dresses? Wear them with lingerie-style bras, bralettes, and bodysuits for a super-modern vibe. Proceed with caution if you’re dressing for work, though — this look should be reserved for off-duty hours. From left: Topshop, $50, at topshop.com; Coco de Mer, $101, at matchesfashion.com

The Trend: Square-Shoulder Blazers

Strong, square, ‘40s-inspired blazers and coats are powerful as hell and—after the work day is done — try wearing yours with a gorgeous full-coverage bra underneath, with the jacket buttoned.

Wear Underneath: Bust-Enhancing Bras

Whether balconette or push-up, go for a bra style that enhances your assets. The trend's masculine silhouette allows for a little bit of sex appeal. Clockwise from left: Victoria's Secret, $25 (Was $63), at victoriasecret.com; Chantal Thomass, $131, available at farfetch.com; Stella McCartney, $80, at net-a-porter.com

The Spring Trend: Bra Tops

If you’re going to take on Spring 2017’s bra-top trend (which, by the way, isn’t only for A-cups — Kim Kardshian and Kylie Jenner are both fans), just make sure the straps are supportive enough to lift your bust.

Wear Underneath: Petals

A stick-on bra or "petals" (a.k.a. nipple covers) will give you a little bit of shape and coverage under spring's teeny-tiny tops. Go for one that matches your skin-tone to keep the look invisible. Nordstrom Lingerie, $6 (3-Pack), at nordstrom.com

The Spring Trend: White Dresses

The little white dress lives on! Also alive: The need for a bra that doesn't expose your chest to the world.

Wear Underneath: Second-Skin Bras

Unless you're going for contrast, you can't go wrong with a standard style that matches your skin. Clockwise from left: Gossard, $45, at amazon.com; Dolce & Gabbana, $495, at net-a-porter.com; Chantelle, $39 (Was $88), at gilt.com; Bodas, $40 (Was $80), at net-a-porter.com

Watch Jemima Kirke's Brutally Honest Reflection On Becoming A Mom

$

Jemima Kirke is not afraid to speak with raw honesty about motherhood.

On Tuesday, StyleLikeU released a video interview with the “Girls” actress as part of the What’s Underneath Project. The initiative is an interview series in which women answer questions while slowly removing items of clothing to show that style is not simply about the clothes you wear but what lies beneath.

In the 13-minute interview, Kirke opened up about her neuroses, fear, self-loathing and insecurities. Around the 5:30 mark, the actress and artist discussed how these feelings affected her experience of becoming a mother.

“I’m very insecure about my capabilities in a lot of areas ― one of them being parenting,” she said. “I was not ready to have a baby, and I really was not thinking about what I was doing. And I was doing it almost in the same way as getting a haircut or getting a tattoo.”

Kirke and her husband Michael Mosberg welcomed their daughter, Rafella Israel Mosberg, in 2010. She gave birth to their son, Memphis Kirke Mosberg, in 2012. According to reports, Kirke and her husband recently split after seven years of marriage.

Reflecting on Rafella’s birth, Kirke explained, “To a lot of people, it looked like I was getting my life together. The guilt hit me the second she came out of me ... that I was her mother. I realized, I was like, ‘Oh my god, what did I just do? I just released a suffering person, you know? And they’re just gonna give me a baby.’”

Holding back tears, she added, “They should really like, have more of a screening for people at the hospital before they give the baby to you.”

Kirke opened up about raising a child as a young mom. “I was still going through my 20s with her as a toddler,” she said. “And there was something that felt unfair about that to her because I wasn’t ready to stay home every night. And I didn’t have the patience because I still had a lot of self centeredness.”

Watch the video above for more of Kirke’s thoughts on motherhood, marriage, mental health and more.

Duchess Kate Nails Why People Don't Seek Mental Health Help

The Duchess of Cambridge is yet again schooling the world on negative mental health stereotypes.

The duchess, along with Prince William and Prince Harry, spoke out about how stigma prevents people with mental illness from seeking support. The brief speech by the former Kate Middleton was part of an event in London on Tuesday for Heads Together, the royals’ mental health charity.

“The challenge that so many people have is not knowing how to take that first step of reaching out to another person for help. Admitting that they are not coping,” she said. “Fear, or reticence, or a sense of not wanting to burden another, means that people suffer in silence ― allowing the problem to grow larger and larger unchecked.

Kate couldn’t have summed it up better. Too often shame silences those with a mental health condition. And what’s worse is that it could be damaging to that person’s health: Research shows that the misconceptions surrounding behavioral health conditions often stand in the way of people getting professional treatment.

Approximately one in four adults globally experience a mental health issue in a given year. That number increases when you factor in children. Experts say anxiety disorders among kids are one of the most common pediatric problems

This is another mental health issue the royals are hoping to tackle. Last year, Kate penned an essay for The Huffington Post U.K. where she addressed the consequences that come with ignoring a child’s psychological well-being.

“The mental health of our children must be seen as every bit as important as their physical health,” she wrote. “For too long we have been embarrassed to admit when our children need emotional or psychiatric help, worried that the stigma associated with these problems would be detrimental to their futures.”

If we’re being honest, we could listen to this family talk about mental health all day. Keep it up, guys!

Celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo has blessed the faces of stars like Karlie Kloss, Lily Aldrige and Emily Ratajkowski with his beauty expertise.

Most recently, he uploaded an Instagram photo of his look for Selena Gomez that has created quite the stir among fans, with some claiming the image was altered.

If you look closely at the bottom left of the wall in the photo, it appears to be warped.

Still don’t see it? Here you go.

While it certainly appears to be ~somewhat~ Photoshopped or tampered with, it seems like an odd part of the photo to edit in the first place. After all, it’s just a wall?

The makeup artist also once shared a photo comparing an unedited photo of Gomez in makeup with an edited one, proving the pop star looks gorgeous either way.

Regardless, Gomez looks absolutely stunning and we’re loving her lob (long bob) hairdo. Work it, girl.

Alicia Keys Just Wore Makeup For The First Time Since Last Spring

$

In the months since Alicia Keys declared that she would be going makeup free, there’s been no shortage of stunning red carpet appearances and album covers. There has also been no shortage of opinions from the peanut gallery, even after the singer clarified that her choice to forego makeup was personal and not in any way made to shame people who wear it.

Now, in a new interview with Allure, Keys is once again setting the record straight in her truly eloquent and elegant form.

“I think makeup can be self-expression. I have no intention to shame anyone at all who chooses to wear it. No one should be ashamed by the way you choose to express yourself. And that’s exactly the point. However, if you do want to do that for yourself, you should do that,” she said.

Keys, who wore makeup for the first time since last spring for the shoot, said her skin started breaking out at the beginning of her music career when “everyone covered me in makeup and then threw me under tons of lights.” That made her “feel even more self-conscious, objectified and judged,” inspiring her to make makeup less of a priority.

Of course, Keys looks beautiful without makeup for a number of reasons (great skin, genetics, proper skincare), but these days she credits her radiance to having a better relationship with herself.

“One thing I’ve heard more than ever is this glow that people refer to that I have. I kind of recognize that glow because I’ve begun to listen to myself inside. And I think there’s something really powerful that happens when you start to listen to yourself. It makes you feel more aware. In touch. More confident. I’m not more confident because I think I’m better than, but because I’ve been hearing myself more, listening to myself more. And that’s taken a little minute to arrive at that place. But there’s definitely something powerful about the way your inner feels that reflects on the outer, on your skin. That, to me, is real beauty.”

Head to Allure to see the entire interview.

Forever 21 Just Quietly Changed Its Return Policy For The Better

$

Forever 21 has long been synonymous with fast fashion. Its affordable, trendy clothing is easily snatched up by the armload, making it ripe for impulse buying.

But sometimes you want to return that impulse buy (our impulses are not always good ones).

Unfortunately, for years, Forever 21’s policy was that store purchases were only eligible for exchange or store credit toward your next purchase. And online items had to be returned within 30 days via mail, with a credit going back to your original form of payment. If you returned the item in-store, you’d only receive a store credit.

Now, according to Refinery29, the chain has updated that policy.

The revised return policy on in-store purchases allows customers to get full refunds to their original form of payment within 30 days from the date of purchase. You can also return online purchases, though if you do so in store, you’ll still only get a store credit (one step at a time, we suppose).

Of the change-up, VP of merchandizing at Forever 21, Linda Chang, told Refinery29 that the “company is adapting to change and listening to customers’ needs and wants.”

“Updating our return policy is something we are pleased to give our customers in order for them to have the best shopping experience possible.”

We can’t wait to shop with reckless abandon. You know, more than we already do.

Ugg Boots Are Getting A Designer Overhaul

$

By Max Berlinger for GQ.

Phillip Lim is bringing his talents to the incredibly cozy (but not always stylish) iconic footwear.

We've seen the rise of Birkenstocks, high-end water socks gain traction, and even the return of square-toed shoes, so when it comes to crazy footwear trends, we're pretty hard to shock. And yet, when we caught wind that Californian brand Ugg — whose boots were most famously seen on trendy teenage girls in the early aughts — was given the nod of approval by New York design whiz Phillip Lim, even we were a little taken aback.

RELATED: Every Piece from the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Collaboration

The limited-edition capsule Ugg boot collection will consist of four styles to be sold as part of the brand 3.1 Phillip Lim's fall-winter 2017 collection, to be shown next week in Paris. "As a designer, I am constantly interested in exploring unexpected elements to create new aesthetic propositions," Lim said of his riff on the classic boot silhouette, which has reached icon status in certain circles. "One of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Ugg is because I felt that together we could create a collection that would inspire a laid back sense of cool. The approach stemmed from my California roots and memories of wearing UGG — a pure expression of unexpected fun and casual elegance.”

Now Ugg boots gaining a foothold (heh) in the industry isn't too surprising. With fashion currently in thrall of a certain 90s vibe and the critically lauded brand Vetements collaborating with early aughts hot brand Juicy Couture (which was often paired with Uggs by the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan), it might just be time to reconsider the shoe, which is, at its heart, the footwear manifestation of the very popular cozy boy style going around. And Lim's zippered revision on the style, is a convincing proposition if ever we've seen one.

And while we know there may still be some skeptics out there, we say keep an open mind and take a good long look at the pictures below. You have a few months before they ultimately hit stores, and by then you might just have changed your mind.

Balenciaga's Fall 2017 Collection Is For Anyone Who Still Feels The Bern

Bernie Sanders ran a history-making campaign that lit a fire in the hearts of many Americans. In the months since the election, he has kept that fire berning, partially by calling out President-elect Donald Trump on his policies, partially by refusing to stand down on Trump’s picks for top White House positions and also by apparently inspiring a fashion collection.

Balenciaga’s Fall 2017 collection, which showed in Paris on Wednesday, included a few pieces featuring a logo instantly recognizable to anyone who followed the 2016 election ― that of Sanders’ campaign.

The logo, which was nearly identical to Bernie’s ― aside from the fact that it read “Balenciaga 2017” ― appeared on jackets:

T-shirts:

And even a giant scarf:

Here’s the Bernie logo in question, for reference:

Fashionista pointed out that Balenciaga went so far as to use the logo as nail art on its models in the show.

Considering Sanders’ stance on income and wealth, the sky-high cost of Balenciaga’s garb provides a touch of irony that is not lost on us. We have to hand it to Balenciaga though, for capitalizing on the increasingly popular usage of logos on clothing and the Bernie Bro. phenomenon.

How To Stop Bleeding From A Shaving Cut

$
0
0

By Adam Hurly for GQ.

Keep calm and carry chapstick.

Whether you’re a five-blade shaving master or a novice taking care of some wiry chin hairs, chances are you’re still going to slip up and nick yourself every now and then. Sometimes it’s the result of a small bump on the skin or an ingrown hair. Other times, it’s just the universe telling you that you’re moving too fast. Regardless, shaving cuts are gonna happen, and no one wants to stride into the office with an open wound.

RELATED: What You Need to Get the Best Shave Ever

Every man alive has tried the toilet paper method — you know, using a tiny bit of TP to block the blood flow until it clots. While smart in concept (and MacGyver-esque in execution), it’s not something we wholeheartedly endorse. Toilet paper dissolves easily, and we’re not fans of letting anything dissolve inside an open wound. (You can quote us on that.) All you’re doing is stopping the blood flow — what you need to do is actively treat the cut. Plus when you peel that dried, half-dissolved piece of paper off, you risk opening it up again.

There are several ways to heal a minor nick. The best regimen will disinfect and heal. We prefer the lip-balm method. It cleans the cut, halts bleeding, and quickly heals the skin.

GQ’s Shave-Cut Healing Regimen:

1. Press a warm washcloth against the cut for 30 seconds, until bleeding slows or stops. Warm water will help clean the cut and slow blood loss.

2. Apply a witch-hazel-based toner or other alcohol-free aftershave to disinfect the wound.

3. Hold an ice cube against the cut for 15-30 seconds, to constrict the blood vessels. This should stop bleeding altogether.

4. Apply unused lip balm to the nick. (Or you can scrape off any part of the chapstick that has touched your lips to remove any germs.) This will provide a nourishing barrier that keeps blood in, and keeps the bad stuff out.

Here are 11 GQ-approved lip balms that will protect you.

5. Let it be for 30 minutes, then gently wipe the balm away — gently, we say — since there will be excess balm (and maybe a little blood) atop your skin. By now, the cut should be done draining, and there should be some balm inside the wound, helping to nurture the nick.

6. Spot-treat the cut with a soothing moisturizer. Ideally, you already applied an aftershave balm to your whole face following the shave. But a spot-treatment to this cut will expedite healing.

OR

Use Alum Block

The easiest solution, in our opinion, is alum block. It’s a small brick made of the mineral potassium alum; dampen it with cold water, then press it gentle against a cut. The alum disinfects the nick and foils further bleeding. Many guys will apply it against the entire shaved region (as an aftershave remedy), to prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs. After each use, let it dry completely before storing. We like Mr. Natty’s You’ve Been Nicked Bar.

Lauren Conrad Shares 4 Simple Rules For Dealing With Pregnant Women

$
0
0

It seems like all rules about touching a stranger’s stomach go out the door when pregnancy is involved. But Lauren Conrad won’t stand for that.

The TV personality, designer and mom-to-be wrote a blog post titled, “Ladylike Laws: 4 Things to Never Say to a Pregnant Woman.” In the piece, Conrad shares some etiquette ground rules. The last two rules are “Refrain from commenting on the size of someone’s bump” and “Don’t touch the belly without asking!”

Regarding the former, Conrad notes that she herself has been guilty of making comments about a woman’s belly size. “Women carry their pregnancy in all different ways, and can be self-conscious about it,” she wrote. “Whether a woman is bigger than average or she’s not showing as much as she thought she would be, keep in mind that it can be a very sensitive subject.”

As for the latter, she wrote, “This one might seem like a no-brainer, but every mama I know has some story about a stranger touching her pregnant belly.” Conrad said she witnessed the phenomenon firsthand multiple times when her best friend was pregnant.

“It happens way more often than you would think!” she noted. “Even if you are a close friend or family member, it doesn’t hurt to ask first before making a grab for the belly. No matter what your relationship to the mama-to-be is, keep in mind that it’s much more pleasant to have someone politely ask if it is OK before groping your midsection.”

Conrad announced on Jan. 1 on Instagram that she is expecting her first child with husband William Tell. She shared a “baby bump” photo on her website a week later.

Happy New Year! I have a feeling 2017 is going to be the best year yet...

A photo posted by Lauren Conrad (@laurenconrad) on

If this latest post is any indication, she will likely be blogging about pregnancy and motherhood more as she embarks on this new stage in life.

Conrad’s other two pregnancy etiquette rules were pretty straightforward as well. “Never ask when someone is due unless you are 100 percent certain they are expecting,” she wrote. “There’s no bigger blow to someone’s self-confidence and body image than asking them if they are pregnant when they are not.”

She also urged readers not to ask married couples when they are going to have kids. “Keep in mind that the decision to have children (both if and when), is an extremely personal one,” she wrote. “You also never know if someone may be privately struggling with fertility or has suffered through a recent miscarriage.”

She speaks truth!

Nas Launches Black History Month Collection In Support Children's Development

After the success of his ugly Christmas sweaters in support of prison reform, Nas is back for another good cause.

In honor of Black History Month, Nas is launching an exclusive collection featuring inspirational dashikis with “Black Don’t Crack” writing and “I’m Black And I’m Proud” graphic tees, sweatshirts, as well as Malcolm X-inspired hats by his clothing brand HSTRY.

The special collection will also feature pro-black versions of classic cartoon characters Bart Simpson, Charlie Brown, and the Pink Panther. A portion of proceeds for the line will go to National Black Child Development Institute, which provides various resources to black children through “publications, advocacy and trainings related to early childhood care and education; health and wellness; literacy and family engagement,” according to the organization’s website.

Prior to developing the line, Nas says he previously viewed Black History Month as a “slap in the face” to the black community.

“I used to low-key cringe when Black History Month came around. It felt like a slap in face with all the hell we catch daily,” Nas said in a statement to HuffPost.  “Like a small reward for a dog’s good behavior, then back to the kennel. But I’ll take it. I’ll take what I can get and that’s all I need to go to new heights.”

The 43-year-old say he wants the commemorative collection to help enrich black culture in a bold fun way.

“We’re in a time now where we can easily get caught up focusing on the negative things going on in America, and feel like we have almost been set back in our journey,” he said. “This collection is about turning things around and instilling positivity. Celebrating being Black in a loud and fun way. Taking a much-needed moment to be proud of the achievements we have made, our colorful culture, black royalty and excellence from the past, present, and future.”

Stunning Style From Inaugurations Past, To Distract You From This One

On Friday, Donald Trump will be sworn in as President of the United States of America. Melania and Ivanka Trump will no doubt be by his side for the occasion, and the question of what they’ll be wearing when they do has come under increased speculation in recent days.

Since James Buchanan’s inauguration in 1857, the first on record known to have been photographed, there have been countless photo opportunities and captured moments, from the swearing-in ceremonies to the many balls and events presidents attend over the course of an inauguration weekend.

The inauguration, of course, signifies the passing of power from one president to the next, but as any Michelle Obama fan can tell you, there are also eyes on style. And not only the first lady’s style, but everyone involved.

It is in that spirit that we present an extensive history of inaugural fashion, from giant gowns to pill box hats to pink coats and everything in between.

This New Shampoo Will Clean Your Hair — And The Oceans

If you don’t like lifeless hair, dandruff on your shoulders and plastics in your ocean, you can tackle all three in the shower.

Procter & Gamble announced Thursday that its Head & Shoulders shampoo bottles will be recyclable and made of up to 25 percent “beach plastics,” from trash removed from beaches, oceans, rivers and other waterways.

It will be the first shampoo bottle made from recycled beach plastics, according to the company’s press release.

“It’s important to understand how big of a disaster ocean plastics are. It’s horrendous,” Tom Szaky, founder of recycling company TerraCycle, told The Huffington Post. TerraCycle is partnering with P&G to make the bottles. “It creates problems for animals that eat them or get trapped in them. It’s a crisis, and I don’t think people understand the scale of it.”

The oceans will contain more plastics than fish by 2050, according to a report from the World Economic Forum. At least 8 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean each year. That’s like tossing the contents of one garbage truck into the ocean every minute.

The Head & Shoulder “beach plastic” bottles will be available in France this summer, with plans to expand to other countries after that.

While most shampoo and conditioner bottles already can be recycled and some are made of recycled plastic, this is the first using recycled marine plastics, according to Szaky, who said that plastic rescued from oceans and other waterways is notoriously hard to collect and process because it is scattered, degraded and often filled with junk.

Getting plastics from beach to bottle is an elaborate process, according to Szaky: Hundreds of organizations and volunteers collect plastics from beaches, harbors and other waterways. TerraCycle takes the collected plastic and sorts it, sending some of it, usually high-density polyethylene (HDPE), to P&G for its bottles. The rest is used to make benches and picnic tables that are given to nonprofits.

P&G isn’t the first company to try to tackle the problem of ocean plastics in its products: Method has been making hand soap bottles out of ocean plastics for years, and Adidas launched a sneaker line made with recycled ocean plastics last year.

And when it comes to removing plastics from our oceans, anyone can play a role.

“Make sure you recycle,” Szaky said. “Go to your local ocean conservancy and participate in cleanup efforts. And really think about what you buy ― only buy what you need. Consumerism is behind many of our environmental problems.”

International human rights lawyer Amal Clooney brought all the star power to Davos on Tuesday. The 38-year-old outshone her fellow attendees in a vintage, sequined Chanel gown with dark green pumps.

Clooney wore the illusion waist, haute couture dress to the Women of Impact dinner. According to People, the lawyer was there as an honored guest, along with her client, activist and Nobel Peace Prize-nominee Nadia Murad.

Vice President Joe Biden and Amal’s actor husband, George Clooney, also attended the dinner.

Last week at a Netflix screening for the documentary, “The White Helmets,” Amal again ensured all eyes were on her in a colorful Dolce & Gabbana dress with black tights and black pumps.

5 Kids Dressed Better Than All The Adults At The People's Choice Awards

At the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles Wednesday night, the kids were our choice. They dressed better than just about every single grownup in attendance.

There was some good in the adult red carpet: Forty-seven-year-old Gwen Stefani was on hand in an adorable Reem Acra two-piece to remind us all she’s aging in reverse. Jennifer Lopez, who is also 47 and somehow appearing more youthful all the time, looked lovely in a gown by the same designer. “This is Us” star Chrissy Metz gets an honorable mention, too, for looking gorgeous in a custom Eloquii gown.

Other than that, though, the looks were a little scattered. We’re not here to name names, but let’s just say that the handful of kids, in their floral gowns and smart suits, looked better than the rest of the red carpet combined (ahem, “Fuller House” cast).

Check out the good, the bad and the adorable below.
