Celine Dion's Heart Will Go On Our Best-Dressed List

Every night in my dreams, I see this epic Celine Dion look, I feel this epic Celine Dion look.

The 48-year-old icon promoted her handbag and accessories line in Las Vegas Tuesday looking like the Queen of Hearts in a white mini-suit emblazoned with a giant red arrow-struck heart and shoulder patches.

Stylist Law Roach, the man responsible for Dion’s recent style renaissance, said his client was wearing Schiaparelli. “So Madame decided to wear Couture today...,” he wrote of the  ensemble, which Dion paired with impossibly high red boots.

So Madame decided to wear Couture today.... @elsaschiaparelli

Dion’s accessories line, first announced in early February, will debut this fall. For now, we’ll just have our fingers crossed for more press appearances like this one.

Yayoi Kusama's 'Infinity Rooms' Are Here To Turn Your Instagram Feed Into Art

0
0

Throughout her 70-year career, Japanese artist and almighty priestess of polka dots Yayoi Kusama has created a series of rooms ― mirrored, enclosed spaces that use water, twinkly lights, bespeckled balloons, soft phallic sculptures and pumpkins ― to prompt viewers to contemplate the idea of the infinite universe.

And, from what we’ve gleaned, the infinite universe is very photogenic.

On Friday, Feb. 24, the stunning traveling exhibition “Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors” opens at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., featuring six of Kusama’s iconic, infinite spaces.

Viewers are encouraged to enter each space alone, with approximately 45 seconds to take it in once inside. It’s probably a smart idea to sign up for free, timed passes to minimize time spent waiting in lines ― the exhibition is expected to be a blockbuster.

Since you won’t have boundless time to photograph yourself in the seemingly boundless spaces, you’d be wise to head into the rooms ready to take in the work and take a photo in an expedient manner. And know this: snapping a selfie in the dizzying space is not disrespectful toward Kusama’s mission. In fact, a photo is a simple way to harness the spirit of her rooms ― by multiplying yourself, immersing yourself in your environment, and becoming an infinite image yourself.

Stay tuned for our full review of the exhibition. In the meantime, take a digital walk through the show below, and read more about the exhibition here

Hairstylists Reveal the Best Hair Advice They Ever Received

0
0

For Allure, by Deena Campbell.

Ask any hairstylist to give you hair-care or styling advice and they’ll give you a mouthful of answers, but ask them to give you the best hair advice they ever received and the list is much, much shorter. Why? Stylists have heard it all, so asking them to pinpoint the best advice they’ve heard is quite the challenge. But, we found a group who were up for the challenge and dished a few lessons you’ll want to always keep in mind. Take a look.

“Don’t be afraid of change, hair is your best expression of personality and your best accessory. It can make or break your outfit so it should reflect who you are.” —Chris Appleton, ambassador for Color Wow.

“The best haircare advice I ever received was to drop of oil at night — rub in your hands and gently pat on the ends of your hair, then use your Mason Pearson Brush and carefully brush your hair. The best styling trick ever given was to invest in 8 round brushes and roller set your hair with them when blow drying for maximum volume.” —Amanda George, founder/owner of ROIL salons.

“There’s a myth that as you age that you should go lighter but that is not always the truth. Your hair color has a direct affect on the pigmentation of the skin. Even as you age it is important to keep your skin tone into consideration when using color.” —Cristophe of Cristophe Beverly Hills salon.

“Always bring a born, natural, realistic element to every look that you create. So many people go overboard and push the boundaries. Even if you are doing something extreme, and regardless of what kind of hair they have (curly, straight, colored, etc), the client should always look like they could have been born with that style.” —Damien Carney, Schwarzkopf Professional north American creative director and celebrity hairstylist.

“The best hair advice I ever received is all about adding texture. If you want to add texture without the use of heat, braid the hair in three or four sections, or twist the hair and let it sit for at least two hours or more. You can leave some conditioner in the hair to help with keeping your hair healthy and not dry. Then take the twists or braids out and you have textured hair.” —Celebrity hairstylist, Takisha Sturdivant-Drew.

“Rough drying or air drying your hair most of the way before using a round brush to smooth your hair will not only save your hair, but save you time, and you’ll have more body throughout your style.” —Celebrity hairstylist, Ryan Richman.

“The best haircare advice I ever received was to use a drop of oil at night – rub in your hands and gently pat on the ends of your hair , then use your  Mason Pearson Brush and carefully brush your hair well every night before bed.” —Amanda George, founder/owner of ROIL salons.

'Walking Dead' T-Shirt Pulled For Being 'Racist' And 'Offensive'

0
0

Some are accusing “The Walking Dead” of being “fantastically offensive,” but it doesn’t have anything to do with the gore featured on the show during Glenn’s and Abraham’s deaths.

It’s about a T-shirt.

International clothing retailer Primark has reportedly removed a “Walking Dead” T-shirt from its store after complaints it was “racist” and “offensive.”

The shirt features a baseball bat covered in barbed wire and the phrase “Eeny meeny miny moe,” which on-screen baddie Negan said as he picked out a victim on the Season 6 finale. On the show, the line is followed by “catch a tiger by his toe.”

Though the rhyme has an unclear history, some earlier versions did include a racial slur, as “tiger” was replaced by the N-word, which is what caused the complaint.

According to BBC, a customer named Ian Lucraft complained to Primark about the product. Lucraft later told The Sheffield Star that he and his wife were “shocked” when they saw the shirt.

He called it “fantastically offensive” and said people purchasing the shirt must’ve not been aware of the subliminal messages. Lucraft added, “This image relates directly to the practice of assaulting black people in America,” and, “It is directly threatening of a racist assault, and if I were black and were faced by a wearer I would know just where I stood.”

Primark issued a statement:

The T-shirt in question is licensed merchandise for the US television series, “The Walking Dead,” and the quote and image are taken directly from the show. Any offence caused by its design was wholly unintentional and Primark sincerely apologises for this.

The retailer said the product was removed from sale.

Of course, with that decision comes backlash, and there are those who want the shirt returned to stores.

Fans of the show know the line isn’t meant to be racist. In fact, in “The Walking Dead” comics, Negan, who says the line, even “hesitates” to kill Asian American character Glenn because he doesn’t want to be considered racist. That’s actually why he says the “Eeny, Meeny” rhyme in the first place. He wants his victim to be random.

As Uproxx suggested, if you’re not familiar with the show, it’s understandable why a rhyme with a racist history would be offensive. One Twitter user points out that the front of the shirt didn’t even appear to say “The Walking Dead” ― it just had graphic imagery and the phrase.

Meryl Streep Just Invented Star Trek Chic

The devil wears Prada, but the angel wears futuristic, comfy-looking Valentino.

Meryl Streep wore a long pink high-neck, A-line dress to the Costume Designer’s Guild Awards in Los Angeles Tuesday. She took home the Distinguished Collaborator Award, plus our enduring admiration for pulling off a giant mock turtleneck with ease.

We would have gone for slippers underneath, but Streep wore a pair of Custom Jimmy Choo gold and black peep-toe platform heels, perhaps trying to offset the gown’s enviable coziness factor.

How does she do it? We'll let this Streep shrug answer that one, because you can't explain magic.

Emma Watson's New Instagram Is Dedicated To Her Sustainable Wardrobe

The “Beauty and the Beast” press tour is in full swing, and Emma Watson’s looks are “all in perfect taste.”

But aside from being her normal, oh-so-fashionable self, the 26-year-old is also sharing details of her largely sustainable and ethically sourced tour wardrobe on a new Instagram account launched Monday.

The Press Tour” account was created to give fans a peek behind the scenes of Watson’s journey ahead of the film’s release on March 17, according to the actress’ Instagram post. But a quick glance tells a more important tale.

Watson highlights a Boody T-shirt made from bamboo and worn with an organic cotton Maison Michel beret and coat from Stella McCartney, which she describes as the “world’s first luxury brand that is committed to producing products that do not use leather, skins, feathers or fur.”

Merci beaucoup Paris for the wonderful start to the @beautyandthebeast tour! We felt like we were back in the heart of the film. Next stop - London. Did you know in the French version of the film, Cogsworth is called Big Ben? And Philippe is called Philbert?! Body by @woronstore, a slow fashion brand that focuses on everyday essentials. Each underwear garment is made from Lenzing Modal® fabric, a fibre made from beech wood sourced from sustainable forestry plantations in Europe. Socks by @boodywear, a brand that produces underwear made with certified organic bamboo, produced using computerised 3D knitting, so no fabric is wasted. Its factories are zero-waste and have a closed loop system to stop any water being wasted. Faux leather jacket and dress by @stellamccartney Boots by @goodguysdontwearleather. The Press Tour also details Watson’s cruelty-free and vegan makeup looks and sketches of her gorgeous organic Oscar de la Renta and recycled Louis Vuitton outfits from before they were brought to life.

Her choices speak to the negative environmental impact of the apparel industry, one of the world’s biggest polluters. The rise of fast fashion has led to millions of tons of textile waste, polluted waterways, unfathomable working conditions and other serious issues.

The fashion sustainability information provided on the account is being vetted by Eco-Age, a consulting firm dedicated to creating sustainable solutions for brands. The beauty information is verified by Content Beauty, an organic skincare brand and clinic.

Sunday was the first ever public screening of @beautyandthebeast! We were so happy to surprise the audience in Paris and say “bonjour” in person, especially as this is the country where it was created and Belle’s place of birth Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, the new Co-Creative Directors of @oscardelarenta, created this Jacobian flower-embroidered duchesse satin bustier with an organic silk faille sash and organic wool trousers as part of their first collection. The entire look was made in-house at Oscar de la Renta’s NYC atelier ❤ @burberry pumps handmade in Italy with organic silk. Watson’s commitment to ethical fashion goes beyond her press tour for Belle. Just last May she wore a dress made of recycled plastic bottles to the 2016 Met Gala, and earlier this month she starred in a photoshoot for Elle U.K. wearing only sustainably made clothing.

As if we weren’t already excited for “Beauty and the Beast,” now we get to follow a wardrobe that’s nothing like the rest we’ve seen before. Trés bien!

Dove Cameron Chopped Off Her Long Locks Into The Perfect Bob

It’s fair to say that the long bob or “the lob” has become a very popular celebrity haircut trend. We’ve seen Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence and Kylie Jenner rock this style ― just to name a few.

Well, now Disney star and singer Dove Cameron is sporting the chic ‘do, too. She gave fans a sneak peek of her fresh new look in her most recent Instagram post, which she shot at an event in West Hollywood hosted by Vanity Fair and L’Oreal Paris.

A post shared by ♡DOVE♡ (@dovecameron) on

We’d say that’s a dramatic change, wouldn’t you? Her new, blunt chop barely reaches her shoulders!

As a refresher, here’s how long her hair was before she went full lob:

Cameron slays the lob so well, we’re almost considering going short ourselves. After all, it’s the perfect low-maintenance hairstyle for spring, which is basically right around the corner.

Keep killing it, girl.

Katy Perry Channels Hillary Clinton More And More With Every Outfit

Katy Perry regularly hit the campaign trail for Hillary Clinton during election season, and it seems like all that time together translated into a style shift for the singer.

The “Chained to the Rhythm” songstress stepped out in a chic gray pantsuit on Monday in London, doing a slight twist on what Clinton herself would wear. Perry spiced up her look with a zebra-print mock turtleneck, gold jewelry and dark green heels.

Her newly platinum hair is a sharp-contrast to the Trump-like color she was sporting a few weeks ago.

Perry drew a few comparisons to Clinton after wearing a white suit and a “Persist” armband at her politically-motivated Grammys performance:

Once a Hillary supporter, always a Hillary supporter.

This Is What The Oscars Looked Like In 1987

The 89th annual Academy Awards are fast approaching, and as we love to do, HuffPost is taking a look back at a past Oscar ceremony.

The year was 1987. “Platoon” took home the award for Best Picture, while Paul Newman and Marlee Matlin won the night’s top acting honors for their work in the films “The Color of Money” and “Children of a Lesser God,” respectively.

The red carpet was as star-studded as you’d imagine. Everyone from Bette Davis to Tom Hanks to then-couple Matthew Broderick and Jennifer Grey was in attendance, leaving us with some pretty great photographic memories.

Check out our favorites below:

The 89th annual Academy Awards air Feb. 26 on ABC.

Whatever You Do, Don't Ask Anna Kendrick To Be A Bridesmaid

Sure, she’s been in a couple wedding movies, but Anna Kendrick does not want to be in an actual wedding. Especially not as a bridesmaid.

During an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the “Table 19” actress explained why she’d rather not stand beside the bride on the big day.

“I try not to get invited to weddings,” Kendrick said. “It’s like watching your friends put on a little pageant. And you have to be in a nice dress and talk to people you don’t know. I feel like I’ve potentially avoided making very close female friends cause I don’t want to be a bridesmaid.”

She added, “If you put me on an email chain and tell me I have to wear ballet pink nail polish, I will kill you where you stand... Like, I can be friends with you if you’re already married.”

Check out Seth’s hilarious reaction to her tale in the video above.

Japanese Bald Men Celebrate With Cueball Competition

0
0

More than 30 bald men gathered at a hot spring facility in Tsuruta City, Japan, on Wednesday to show off their hairless heads and have fun.

Members of the city’s Bald Men Club took turns competing in a unique game of tug-of-war by sticking a suction cup, which is attached to a single red rope, to each of their heads. Both sides then attempt to pull the cup off of their opponent’s head.

“My head still hurts,” Toshiyuki Ogasawara, 43, said with a smile. “I think I need to ice it!”

Masatomo Sasaki, 64, a first-time participant at the tournament, said he used to feel insecure about his baldness but now feels differently.

“I feel proud. Or maybe I should say, I feel good about being a bald man,” Sasaki said, adding that he started losing his hair when he was 40. “And that is thanks to this bald men’s club.”

The club, which has attracted roughly 65 members from all over the country since its founding in 1989, encourages people to “view baldness in a positive manner, to have fun, and to brighten the world with our shiny heads,” according to its website.

Teijiro Sugo, 70, the club’s chairman, hopes the gathering will turn into something much larger.

“I want all the bald men all over the world to gather here so we can organize a bald men’s Olympic tournament,” Sugo said.

The event is held every year on Feb. 22.

There Are No Words To Describe How Good Viola Davis Looked Last Night

0

We’d love to tell you all about how absolutely stunning our national treasure Viola Davis looked at the 8th Annual Oscars Sistahs Soiree in Beverly Hills Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, we can’t. Because there are no words that could do her and her dress justice.

We could say the perfectly form-fitting, plunging black dress looked great on her figure, and that still wouldn’t sum it up.

We could explain how the edgy cut-outs are a welcome departure from Davis’ typically classic style, and bask in how good she looks from every angle. Yet, that still wouldn’t be enough to express our many feelings.

We might even try to capture through written word how beautiful some of the other attendees ― including Octavia Spencer, Ruth Negga, Rosario Dawson and Tracee Ellis Ross ― looked in fringe, bold patterns and sheer outfits.

Unfortunately, we’re too busy trying to emulate their magic to do it.

So, in lieu of all that, here are a few more photos to swoon over.

You’re welcome.

Christopher Kane Sent Models Down The Runway In Furry Crocs

Just like the word “fetch,” furry Crocs just aren’t going to happen. But Christopher Kane is trying oh-so-hard to make people think they’re fashionable.

The 34-year-old fashion designer recently sent models down the runway at his London Fashion Week presentation in fur-lined Crocs, instantly drawing the ire of the internet.

Last year, Kane pulled a similar stunt, putting bejewled Crocs on his models. We’re not sure if this year’s look is better or worse:

Though it’s not quite clear who the audience is for this sort of shoe, Katy Perry attended Kane’s show. Maybe she’ll try out the look for an upcoming performance?

But if you’re keen on wearing the trend before Perry or Kane make it the next “thing,” shop your favorite furry look on the Crocs website now:

Here's What's Really Happening When Your 'Hair Hurts'

0
0

Chances are you’re familiar with the specific discomfort that comes with taking your hair out of an updo after a long day. But have you ever considered why it’s so sore? Turns out, it’s not your actual hair that hurts at all.

Dr. Angela Lamb, director of the Westside Mount Sinai Dermatology Faculty Practice, director of dermatology at the Institute of Family Health and an assistant dermatology professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, told The Huffington Post that it’s the nerve endings attached to each specific hair that are actually affected.

“Hair follicles are some of the first receptors of feeling,” she said. “Your hair is a whole component of your nervous system, so when you pull it up that puts pressure on the nerve endings that are at the root of the follicle. When you do that over time, they get sore.”

According to Jessica Wu, M.D., a Los Angeles dermatologist, it’s also a matter of your hair growing accustomed to being in one position. “The nerve endings get used to the hair being in that direction,” she said. “Then when you take your hair down, the nerve endings get stimulated again, so your scalp feels more sensitive.”

But before you throw your hair back up into a ponytail and write off this discomfort as harmless, think again. Pulling your hair up repeatedly and too often can, as Lamb explained, can “put you at risk for something we call traction alopecia: Hair loss literally just from putting up, stress and tension on the hair.” Wu added that repeated pulling can also make the hair “thinner.”

Furthermore, constantly putting your hair up in the same way, whether for exercise or otherwise, can cause damage to your actual hair, too. “Hair is dead, it’s just made of Keratin, but certainly if you put too much tension and pressure on it that can cause breakage,” Lamb said. Try instead to do a variation of different updos, whether it be braids one day, a bun the next or a ponytail after that.

When it comes to braids, it's important to keep in mind that they are rooted in the black experience and particularly rocked by women of color in various ways. However, these beautiful hair styles can sometimes pull tightly on the scalp. Lamb warns that “braids are one of the main culprits of traction alopecia,” and that this rule applies for all hair types. Her advice for women who have their hair braided? “Make sure they are loose and not pulling on the hair too much or too tight.”

If you have an unwavering affection for updos and are left scarred by the thought of hair loss, fear not. There are steps you can take to not only prevent soreness of the scalp but also potential hair loss. “Don’t do it every day,” Lamb said. “If you have it up during the day, be sure to take it out for the evening. And just don’t do a pulled back style daily ― that’s when you can run into problems.”

Dove Cameron Transforms Into Marilyn Monroe In Galore Photo Shoot

0

Sounds like former Disney Channel star Dove Cameron is branching out of her acting career and getting ready to release her debut album.

In an exclusive interview with Galore, she dishes on her upcoming music endeavors and channels her inner Marilyn Monroe. Perhaps this photoshoot is why she chopped off her long locks? Either way, we’re all ears for some Dove Cameron music to drop.

“I’ve been promising my fans an album for some time now. I’m making a lot of moves in that direction,” she shares. When asked what kind of style or sound her fans can expect, she remained pretty tight-lipped so as not to give too much away.

“It is definitely going to be what a lot of fans would expect for me, but then I think for a lot [of fans], not what they would expect from me,” she said.

It all sounds very mysterious, but from what we can tell Cameron definitely has a few tricks up her sleeve. “I have a lot of influences and I don’t want to give anything away about the things I’m currently working on,” she added.

Well, while we don’t know too much about Cameron’s music projects, we do know she plays one hell of a Marilyn Monroe and totally slayed this photo shoot.

Marilyn would be proud.

A routine shopping trip turned into something more for one mom after a cashier went “above and beyond his duty” for her son.

On Feb 18, Lauren Walker visited a Marks and Spencer food hall in Scotland with her 10-month-old son and her mother. During their shopping trip, Walker’s son, Alistair, grew restless. When the family reached the checkout, Alistair recognized the cashier as the man who said, “hello” to him when they first arrived and yelled, “Hiya hiya!” That’s when the cashier went above and beyond and comforted Walker’s restless son by letting him help behind the checkout.

Walker was so moved by the cashier’s kindness that she posted about her experience on the official Marks and Spencer Facebook page and shared a video of Alistair helping the cashier. In her post, she wrote about how much her son enjoyed spending time with him.

“He smiled and squealed the full way through it because he was having so much fun!” she wrote in her post. “This man made my shopping experience so much easier and the fact he took time with my son as well was great.”

Walker told The Huffington Post she and her son have never experienced something like this while out shopping. Once Walker finished up paying, Alistair didn’t want to leave his new friend.

“This is why I recorded it while my mum was packing the shopping because it was so kind of him and you could see he was great with kids,” she said. “My son wasn’t happy when it was time to leave because he was enjoying himself too much!”

Walker hasn’t seen the cashier since, but did receive a reply via a Facebook comment from Marks and Spencer.

“It looks like your little one was having a great time and it’s really good to see how our colleague was so helpful and interactive with our customers,” the company wrote. “I’ll make sure this is shared on our internal employee page and that our Store Manager gets to hear about it too! We can then give him the recognition he deserves.”

When asked if she had anything else she’d like to say to the kind cashier, Walker said she wanted to say, “thank you.”

“He went above and beyond his duty of care just because he thought all he was doing was his job!”

65 Years Later, Woman Celebrates Anniversary In Her Wedding Dress

Ruthie McCoy wanted a special way to celebrate her 65th wedding anniversary with her husband Tom, so she decided to pull out her wedding dress from 1952.

She wore it to a special gathering in Lubbock, Texas to mark their milestone anniversary, and, according to the Today show, her husband absolutely loved it.

“It took me back to the very first time I saw her,” Tom said. “She was in an all-white dress (then). She looked like a little angel. I found out after I married her that she is an angel.”

Ruthie told the Today show all about the satin dress, which the couple bought for $39.99 many years ago.

“It has lace around the waistline, over the hips and down the back, and of course, lots of buttons... I worked so hard to make the money to buy it,” she said.

After six decades together, the dress (and Ruthie!) still looks as gorgeous as ever. Watch the rest of the video above to see what the McCoy’s looked like on their wedding day.
