America Has A Lot Of Feelings About McDonald's New 'Dystopian' Uniforms

They look plucked from a galaxy far, far, away, but McDonald’s new employee uniforms are real, from this galaxy, and have a lot of people talking.

The iconic fast food chain debuted uniforms created by American fashion designer Waraire Boswell last week. The gray-and-blue looks are a jarring shift from the happy-go-lucky, red-and-yellow garb you may currently associate with the Big Mac-slinging restaurant.

It’s the first time the brand has teamed up with a designer to create outfits for its employees, and according to HypeBeast, they were designed for comfort and functionality based on feedback from customers and employees.

We’re all about providing employees with more comfortable clothing options, but social media users were quick to notice a few other things about the futuristic fashion.

Some saw the new look as a pretty fitting metaphor for the trying times in which we’re currently living.

Many made the obvious connection to “Star Wars,” pronouncing the look perfect for a McDonald’s located on the Death Star.

Others pointed to a few other pop culture references.

And some lamented the outfits look like they could have come straight off the runway at a Kanye West show, which would be pretty fitting considering West’s deeply rooted connection to the brand through poetry.

No word on the look from social media burn champion and Mickey D’s competitor Wendy’s, but McDonald’s did share a look back at some of its previous, less contentious uniforms from over the years.

Check out more photos of the new uniforms below.

The Duchess Of Cambridge Opens Up About The Loneliness Of Motherhood

The Duchess of Cambridge knows firsthand that motherhood can be isolating.

While visiting the Global Academy in west London last week, the former Kate Middleton opened up about the challenges of being a mom while speaking to a group of mothers who shared their struggles.

“It is lonely at times and you do feel quite isolated, but actually so many other mothers are going through exactly what you are going through,” the duchess said to the women, who founded an app called Mush that helps moms connect and form friendships.

“It is being brave enough, like you obviously were, to reach out to those around you,” she added.

Kate has spoken about the “overwhelming experience” of becoming a parent in the past. “It is full of complex emotions of joy, exhaustion, love and worry all mixed together,” she said during a speech in March.

Though the duchess has acknowledged she’s fortunate to have resources and support that most mothers don’t, she believes it’s imperative for all parents to be open about their mental health struggles ― no matter their background.

“If any of us caught a fever during pregnancy, we would seek advice and support from a doctor,” she explained. “Getting help with our mental health is no different. Our children need us to look after ourselves and get the support we need.”

Preach, Kate.

Teen's Black Lives Matter-Inspired Prom Dress Goes Viral

Viral dresses have become a routine part of prom season, but one teen’s gown is gaining attention for making a stance like no other.

Milan Bolden-Morris, 17, used her mermaid-style prom dress to pay homage to the Black Lives Matter movement on Friday. The train of the gown features the faces of men, women and children whose lives were taken as a result of encounters with law enforcement, including Michael Brown, Philando Castile, Alton Sterling, Sandra Bland, John Crawford III, Freddie Gray and Tamir Rice. A photo of Trayvon Martin, who was gunned down by a neighborhood watchman, is featured prominently on the front of the gown before the train begins.

A post shared by Terrence Torrence (@terrencetorrence) on

The senior high school student commissioned fashion designer and family friend Terrence Torrence to make the dress. Torrence told BuzzFeed News that he was inspired to create the gown in 2016, but it didn’t become a reality until Bolden-Morris spoke with the designer about his vision. Torrence said that it took him three days to make the dress.

Torrence told Essence that finishing the dress was “powerful.” He added: “It was art. It was surreal. It spoke volumes.”

The teen posted a few photos of her gown on Instagram on Saturday and Sunday.

A post shared by Mimi (@_milan23_) on

"Yes I’m black. Yes I’m 17. Yes GOD is using me to convey a message that’s bigger than me,” the Palm Beach, Florida, teen captioned one photo.

Since Saturday, Bolden-Morris’ prom photos have gotten nearly 20,000 likes combined and it has been reposted on numerous Instagram pages, including that of Snoop Dogg. One of the biggest praises, Bolden-Morris said, was Martin’s mother, Sabrina Fulton, reaching out to her and saying she was “proud of how bold” she was.

Bolden-Morris, who was named the Palm Beach Post’s Small School Girls Player of the Year in March, will be continuing her education at Boston College on a full-ride basketball scholarship in the fall.

Coachella's Second Weekend Of Outfits Was More NSFW Than Ever

With the last click of a selfie, Coachella and its yearly parade flower crowns and crop tops came to a close this weekend.

If the first weekend of the yearly festival taught us anything, it’s that an outfit without glitter is simply incomplete, braids are a must and matching outfits with your festival buds is a surefire way to get your photo snapped.

Weekend two saw similar vibes, with attendees putting their best Converse-wearing feet forward. If the lack of actual clothing is any indication, it must have been warmer in the desert this time around, too.

Check out the most Coachella looks from Coachella’s second weekend below ― and be warned, a few are not so suitable for work.

21 Mother's Day Cards For The Woman Who Taught You To Be A Feminist

When I heard Donald Trump say those fateful words, “such a nasty woman” in the final moments of the final presidential debate of 2016, the first person I thought of was my mother. Not because she’s “nasty” ― my mom doesn’t even drink or swear ― but because she’s strong as hell, outspoken, successful at work and has been our family’s breadwinner since the 80s. The latter are just the kind of qualities that get a woman called “nasty.”

And she made me a “nasty woman,” too, for which I owe her an enormous debt.

Below are a round-up of Mother’s Day cards that celebrate the strong, feminist moms who made us the women we are.

Woman Uses Boyfriend's Balls As A Beauty Blender Like It's Meant To Be (NSFW)

The eternal search for the latest cosmetic secret just took a really weird turn.

Video of a Florida woman using her boyfriend’s testicles as a beauty blender has gone viral because, well, it is nuts. (You can see it below but keep in mind that it’s explicit.)

“I never in a million years imagined it would get this much attention,” Johnna Hines told The Huffington Post on Monday. “It’s definitely been a crazy experience.”

Hines posted the clip on Twitter Saturday, it was reported by BuzzFeed on Monday, and now we could be looking at gonads (the scrotum too, technically) as a revolutionary leap in makeup application.

“To be honest, it worked surprisingly well,” Hines said to HuffPost. “I obviously only did it on my forehead but I didn’t even need to fix it after with a beauty blender or anything so it’s safe to say it worked successfully.”

Hines, 18, told BuzzFeed she got the idea when boyfriend Damon Richards, 20, began placing his boys on her head as a joke and she wondered aloud what it would be like to use them as a beauty blender.

The rest is internet history and now you can bear witness. But first, ONE LAST WARNING: This video contains footage of real testicles being used as a real beauty blender on a woman’s forehead. And once you see it, you cannot unsee it. Just remember: You were told.

Ivanka Trump's Brand Was Purposely Mislabeled Under Another Name At Stein Mart

$

Another day, another questionable development involving Ivanka Trump’s clothing line. Or, in this case, lack thereof.

Business of Fashion reported Monday that discount retailer Stein Mart has been selling Trump’s merchandise in stores labeled under another designer’s name ― Adrienne Vittadini Studio.

The move undoubtedly raises eyebrows about the motives of G-III, Trump’s licensing company. Brands like Ivanka Trump oftentimes don’t like to be associated with lower-tier retailers like Stein Mart, so both BoF and The Cut questioned whether the move was made to disassociate Trump’s name from the retailer. But Trump’s designs sell at other off-price stores like T.J. Maxx, so that doesn’t totally add up.

Trump’s brand saw an increase in sales in 2016 and a huge spike following the controversial “free commercial” Kellyanne Conway gave the brand on television in February 2017, when she encouraged Americans to buy Ivanka Trump’s brand.

But another theory could be that unlike higher-end stores like Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, which dropped the brand altogether, the move was a way for Stein Mart to distance itself from the brand without having to actually distance itself from its clothing.

In a statement sent to The Huffington Post, G-III revealed that it worked on its own accord to change the labels ― a move that is weird, but technically legal, and, according to BoF, “commonplace”” for some brands.

“G-IIII accepts responsibility for resolving this issue, which occurred without the knowledge or consent of the Ivanka Trump organization,” the statement said. “G-III has already begun to take corrective actions, including facilitating the immediate removal of any mistakenly labeled merchandise from its customer. The Ivanka Trump brand continues to grow and remains very strong.”

A request for comment from both Authentic Brands Group (which licenses Adrienne Vittadini) and Stein Mart were not immediately returned. But as Susan Scafidi, professor of fashion law at Fordham Law School and founder of the Fashion Law Institute, pointed out to BoF,  if Adrienne Vittadini was not aware of the label swapping, there could be a bigger issue at hand.

“If the original label is replaced with that of a third party unaware of the substitution, the responsible party would be liable to the third party,” she said.

It might be time to check the labels on your most recent Stein Mart purchases, people.

Do You Know Where Your Clothes Come From?

$

Have you ever considered where your clothing comes from? No, not the brand name, but the workers who stitched together your outfit at a tremendously small wage. Fast fashion brands like H&M, Nordstrom, GAP, and Forever 21 depend on vastly underpaid workers (as little as $4/hour) to make clothing at alarming rates to meet consumer demand.

Most fast fashion brands can’t afford to be ethical, but you can. As today is Fashion Revolution Day, we urge you to consider the implications of your clothing choices. Today is designed to draw attention to the fact that much of the global fashion industry is opaque, exploitative and environmentally damaging.

The fashion industry desperately needs revolutionary change. While we all love fashion, our clothes shouldn’t come at the cost of people or our planet. So, check out the video above from Remake. Perhaps it will help you reconsider how you consume clothing. There are ethical fashion brands out there, but you have to make the choice to seek them out. That’s what real change looks like.

For more on how you can make a change with your clothing head over to Fashion Revolution Day’s website. It’s a valuable resource for information, activism, and how you can get involved.

Men Are Getting Botox Now More Than Ever. These Plastic Surgeons Explain Why.

It’s no secret ― men are getting more Botox now than ever before.

According to a recently released study from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of men getting botulinum toxin injections (commonly known by their brand names as Botox, Dysport and Xeomin) totaled 453,281 in 2016 ― adding up to 9.9 percent of total procedures done on both men and women. In 2015, a study from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons said that the number of men getting injections increased by 337 percent since 2000.

With this concrete evidence that men are getting more Botox than ever, we couldn’t help but wonder why. And do their reasons for choosing the treatment differ from those of women?

HuffPost reached out to five plastic surgeons based in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco to learn more about the men who are getting Botox and the reasons they’re doing it.

Men who get Botox are generally 35 to 65 years old.

The five doctors we spoke with all agreed on a few things – the men visiting their practices for toxins are typically 35 to 65 years old; they’re most often white-collar professionals in the business, law, fashion or art world with higher incomes; and they’re primarily getting toxins injected into their brows and around their eyes around three to four times a year. But that’s about where their similarities stop.

I have a huge Republican CEO getting Botox. He’s a Trumpite and he’s a toxin junkie.”
Dr. Seth Matarasso, plastic surgeon

Dr. Seth Matarasso, a San Francisco-based plastic surgeon and clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco, told HuffPost that it’s impossible to pinpoint a certain type of male who receives Botox.

“I have Asian men, I have African-American men, I have white men, I have everyone,” Matarasso said, adding that he sees everyone from politicians and venture capitalists to baseball and hockey players. “I have a huge Republican CEO getting Botox. He’s a Trumpite and he’s a toxin junkie.”

Matarasso added, “There is no demographic and to me that speaks volumes ― the fact that it’s crossing every racial, every sexual, every social demographic. There is no way to pigeon hole [a man] and say, ‘Oh, he’ll never get it.’”

Competition in the workplace is a major motivation for men who get injections.

While the plastic surgeons agreed that women mostly got Botox to appear younger, every doctor cited competitiveness as a major – if not the major – reason men are getting more Botox.

“They’re simply having more procedures done because they want to maintain the competitiveness in an increasingly ageist workplace,” Dr. Daniel C. Mills, president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery told HuffPost.

Dr. Paul Nassif and Dr. Terry Dubrow, the stars of E!’s hit plastic surgery show “Botched,” both backed up Mills’ comments, saying men fear competition with a younger man.

“The younger and better you look, the better chance you have to stay in the market and compete,” Dubrow said. “It’s as simple as that.”

Plastic surgeons are getting better at targeting men.

Dr. Daniel Maman, a board-credited plastic surgeon with 740 Park Plastic Surgery, said that in the past, most plastic surgery websites only targeted women.

“A male would go onto your website and would only see pictures about [procedures for women]. Now we have a dedicated tab on our website for men and it has galleries showing pictures of men,” Dr. Maman said.

And according to a recent Elle magazine piece, men are now also going to “Brotox caves” to get their procedures done. These special offices that cater specifically to men are decorated with faux snakeskin, giant TVs and even artwork chosen for a male audience.

Spouses and significant others are encouraging these kinds of procedures.

“Men blame their spouses with the ‘I don’t care but my wife/girlfriend wants me to do it,’ excuse,” Dr. Dubrow said..

Most of the doctors agreed that after men see the results of their significant others’ Botox, they’re more likely to give the procedure a try.

“Men start with something they’re comfortable with – they’re going to start with toxins,” Dr. Matarasso told HuffPost. “Because [they’ll think to themselves], ‘My wife’s been doing it, my friend’s been doing it, I know it’s safe. I know it’s subtle.’ This isn’t your grandfather’s facelift.”

Social media and online dating have also had a major influence.

“I think with social media and men wanting to look good ― since honestly a lot of the older men are going out with younger women ― they do want to use Botox,” Dr. Nassif said.

Dr. Matarasso agreed, saying he’s seen people come in for a procedure because they were having their online profile pic updated.

“It’s a visual society, whether you want to blame or give credit to the internet,” he said.

Men are also becoming more open to these kinds of procedures.

“More and more men care about their appearances now than ever and have begun to understand that taking good care of their skin and even utilizing injectables like Botox can help them maintain a healthier, more vibrant look,” Dr. Mills said. “Plus, men having a little work done isn’t stigmatized the way that it once was. It isn’t just for women anymore – not by a long shot.”

It’s no longer taboo for a guy to sit at a table with their guy friends from high school and say, ‘Oh you know, I had Botox,’ or, ‘Oh, I had liposuction.’ In general it’s becoming more accepted.”
Dr. Daniel Maman, plastic surgeon

And while it is becoming more accepted, all of the doctors agreed that men would never come in to appointments together ― something a lot of women do.

“[Men would] rather be caught bra shopping or buying condoms,” Dr. Dubrow said.

Part of that might be because of men’s low pain tolerance when it comes to toxin injections, which could explain why the procedure isn’t something they’d consider an enjoyable experience to share with friends.

“Men do not have the same pain threshold as women,” Dr. Matarasso said. “Women are much more stoic and say, ‘OK just put the needle in.’ Men tend to just be a little more needle-phobic.”

And yet despite men’s hesitance to share in the experience together, they’re less afraid to talk about it. Dr. Maman explained, “It’s no longer taboo for a guy to sit at a table with their guy friends from high school and say, ‘Oh you know, I had Botox,’ or, ‘Oh, I had liposuction.’ In general it’s becoming more accepted.”

Statistically speaking, men still have a long way to go to catch up with women when it comes to the number of toxin procedures performed each year. But as the number of men who get Botox continues to rise, the number of lines on their faces will magically plummet.

All The New Shows To Screen Or Skip In Spring And Summer 2017

$
0
0

There’s a reason networks often save their weakest fare for the time of year when more people are less likely to spend their evenings indoors.

Of course, that’s not always the case, since “Game of Thrones” is scheduled to make its much-awaited return this July

But when it comes to new shows, you can bet networks generally save the worst for last. In the coming months, viewers can look forward to some stellar series this spring (including ”The Handmaid’s Tale,” “American Gods,” “GLOW”), while they’re more or less better off embracing the warm weather and misplacing their remotes by the time summer hits.

APRIL

“Girlboss,” April 21, Netflix

With allegations that former Nasty Gal CEO Sophia Amoruso was accused of creating a “toxic” workplace, it’s easy to see why the lead character of Netflix’s “Girlboss” is so incredibly unlikable. The question, however, is why would anyone want to spend a significant amount of time watching her?

“Girlboss” is loosely based on Amoruso’s memoir of the same name and tells the story of how she began her vintage clothing eBay shop, before it became what we now know as Nasty Gal.

The show stars Britt Robertson as 23-year-old Sophia, a college dropout who works menial jobs and yet can somehow afford a studio apartment in San Francisco circa 2006 ― and, damn, is it ever hard to watch. Sophia is petulant, whiny and often just flat-out mean. What’s worse is that the series rarely gives you a reason to root for her. Characters don’t always have to be likable, but there has to be at least some reason to follow a person through their journey. With “Girlboss,” there’s nothing here.

“Great News,” April 25, 9 p.m. ET, NBC

”Great News,” the new workplace comedy from executive producer Tina Fey, can’t be described as great, or even good.

The show follows Katie (Briga Heelan), a wallflower of a producer at a cable news program called “The Breakdown,” and her overbearing mother (Andrea Martin), who manages to land a job as as the show’s intern. Hilarity ensues, right? Not so much.

The show’s jokes just repeatedly fall flat, though surprisingly it’s Nicole Richie as a super-hip if slightly vapid co-anchor who actually shines brightest.

“Genius,” April 25, 9 p.m. ET, National Geographic

What do you really know about Albert Einstein, aside from the fact that he developed the theory of relativity? National Geographic is willing to wager that answer is very little.

“Genius” is an anthology series from executive producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer about the lives of those deserving enough to be deemed as such, and Season 1 kicks off with none other than Mr. E = mc2 himself.

Based on Walter Isaacson’s book Einstein: His Life and Universe, the show stars Johnny Flynn when Einstein was a student in Zurich the 1890s, and Geoffrey Rush, as his older counterpart against a backdrop of the rising anti-semitism in 1922 Berlin, Germany.

“The Handmaid’s Tale,” April 26, Hulu

Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” is by far the best new show debuting in the spring and summer season, and is based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 dystopian novel. If you don’t already have a Hulu account, you’re going to want to sign up for one today.

Set in the not-too distant future where a fundamentalist Christian regime rules over the former United States, now known as the Republic of Gilead, women have been stripped of their rights and any sense of life as they once knew it. Elisabeth Moss stars as Offred, a woman who is forced to bear children for high-ranking men and their wives, after environmental problems cause widespread infertility issues.

The series is a chilling reminder of how quickly the Republic of Gilead could become a reality.

“Dear White People,” April 28, Netflix

If you liked “Dear White People,” the movie, then you should probably watch it again, because the 2014 film from writer/director Justin Simien is far better than Netflix’s 10-episode series.

That’s not to say the series adaptation is a failure by any means. The show is still a smart and sharp take on the complex issue of race relations, and is definitely worth checking out.

The series picks up where the film left off in the aftermath of a racist blackface party, which has left a campus divided. Episodes are told and then retold through different student’s perspectives, which requires some commitment by the viewers since that format can feel awfully repetitive.

“American Gods,” April 30, 9 p.m. ET, Starz

“American Gods” is absolutely the weirdest and most mind-bending new offering this season. Starz’s visually stunning new drama is based on British author Neil Gaiman’s 2001 fantasy novel of the same name and requires total suspension of disbelief.

In this America, gods live among us mere mortals. There are two types of gods ― old and new. The old are the ones you’ve read about in myths and were brought to America by faithful immigrants centuries ago, while the new gods have gradually replaced the old ones and were born out of our modern obsession with media and technology.

As war brews between the gods, an ex-con named Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) finds himself caught between the two sides.

MAY

“Anne with an E,” May 12, Netflix

Netflix’s “Anne with an E” is easily one of the most charming new shows. Yes, this is yet another adaptation of Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery’s beloved children’s novel Anne of Green Gables, but it’s by far the best.

Amybeth McNulty stars as Anne Shirley, the young orphan who never stops talking, who comes to live on Prince Edward Island with elderly siblings Marilla (Geraldine James) and Matthew Cuthbert (R.H. Thomson).

While you may have read the book 100 times as a child, Netflix has managed to reenergize the story for modern audiences without betraying its source material. If anything, “Anne” digs deeper at some of the darker elements that Montgomery glossed over in the novel, and is a thoroughly binge-able experience for all ages.

“I Love Dick,” May 12, Amazon

You may have already watched the pilot episode of Amazon’s new series “I Love Dick,” based on Chris Kraus’ 1997 novel.

The show stars Kathryn Hahn as a filmmaker in an unhappy marriage who follows her husband (Griffin Dunne) to his writing residency in Marfa, Texas, and becomes completely infatuated with a professor named Dick (Kevin Bacon).

“I Love Dick” is the latest show from “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway and is an intentionally uncomfortable yet humorous examination of human sexuality and the female gaze.

“Downward Dog,” May 17, 9:30 p.m. ET, ABC

From ABC comes “Downward Dog,” a sitcom about a dog named Martin and his owner, Nan, (Allison Tolman), a woman struggling to get ahead at work and make sense of her personal life.

The show is told from Martin’s perspective’s via his internal monologue, voiced by Samm Hodges. The series is inoffensive enough, if you can stand to listen to Martin, who is the male incarnation of a droning Valley girl in canine form.

“Twin Peaks,” May 21, 9 p.m. ET, Showtime

Showtime didn’t provide any screeners for “Twin Peaks,” which is returning as a limited series 24 years after David Lynch’s original version ended.

Because of this, we can only tell you what you probably already know: Lynch will direct the entire series and you can expect to see many familiar faces, including Kyle MacLachlan, who returns as FBI Agent Dale Cooper.

JUNE

“I’m Dying Up Here,” June 4, 10 p.m. ET, Showtime

Showtime’s new drama “I’m Dying Up Here” is a look at the lives of stand-up comics trying to make it in Los Angeles in the 1970s ―  and you’ll be tempted to heckle if you can muster the strength to make it through a full episode.

Yet another show based on a book, the series is inspired by William Knoedelseder‘s 2009 nonfiction work I’m Dying Up Here: Heartbreak and High Times in Stand-up Comedy’s Golden Era and features an ensemble cast including Ari Graynor, Melissa Leo, Clark Duke, Michael Angarano and RJ Cyler.

“GLOW,” June 29, Netflix

Even if you’d rather do just about anything else than watch professional wrestling, you really shouldn’t discount Netflix’s new original series “GLOW.”

Inspired by the real story of the 1980s women’s wrestling league “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling,” “GLOW” is one of the most enjoyable shows to debut this season.

Alison Brie stars as a struggling actress desperate to make it in Hollywood, giving one last shot at her dreams when she auditions for a series about female wrestlers. Featuring an outstanding and diverse cast, the series hilariously tackles issues of racism, stereotyping, sexism and sisterhood in the world of women’s wrestling.

JULY

“The Bold Type,” July 11, 9 p.m. ET, Freeform

Freeform’s “The Bold Type” is inspired by Cosmopolitan and its editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, and it’s the perfect show for summertime viewing.

Starring Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee and Meghann Fahy as three friends working at Scarlet Magazine, the show follows the young women as they navigate their careers and personal lives in New York City.

This show is exactly what you would expect from reading Cosmo ― not a bad way to curl up on the couch with a glass of wine.

“Midnight, Texas,” July 25, 10 p.m. ET, NBC

The remote town of “Midnight, Texas” seems to be the supernatural center of the United States with witches, ghosts, assassins, angels, psychics and other creatures calling it home. But there is entirely too much going on.

Based on the trilogy series of the same name by author Charlaine Harris, “Midnight Texas” follows Manfred (François Arnaud), a psychic who can communicate with the dead, as he arrives in Midnight and befriends fellow outsiders like himself.

AUGUST

“The Sinner,” Aug. 2, 10 p.m. ET, USA

USA’s “The Sinner” is a different kind of thrilling mystery that finds Jessica Biel starring in a TV series for the first time since her days playing Mary Camden on “7th Heaven.”

Biel plays Cora, a young mother who commits an unspeakable act of violence against a stranger at the beach. There’s no question that she did it. The only question is why. Bill Pullman also stars as a detective obsessed with uncovering Cora’s motives.

As the series delves into Cora’s past and pieces together what happened that day at the beach, chances are you’ll be just as obsessed.

“Weekend Update,” Aug. 10, 9 p.m. ET, NBC

Saturday Night Live” is on hiatus this summer, but Colin Jost and Michael Che will fill the void with “Weekend Update” ― a 30-minute primetime version of the long-running segment. With “SNL” seeing some of its highest ratings in years, Jost and Che will keep things going in August and make sure you’re on top of all the news that can be satirized. So, basically everything.

“Marlon,” Aug. 16, 9 p.m. ET, NBC

Marlon Wayans stars in what’s supposed to be an update on the classic family sitcom, but this isn’t anything we haven’t seen before.

“Marlon” is loosely based on Wayans’ real life as he plays a wise-cracking, over- protective yet immature father to two precocious kids (Amir O’Neil and Notlim Taylor). He also appears to share a too-close relationship with his ex-wife (Essence Atkins).

The ad was inspired in part by research from Dove Men+Care brand. While mothers feel pressure to be perfect parents, fathers aren’t expected to be essential caregivers to their children.

“Research tells us that the media focuses on fathers as ‘providers’ and ‘fixers’ over three times more often than as ‘emotional caregivers’ and over four times more often than a ‘daily caregiver,’ diminishing their role as parents ― when in fact, 97 percent of dads say they are involved in their child(ren)’s life and 7 in 10 see themselves as highly involved,” a Dove spokesperson told HuffPost.

Dove hopes this new campaign helps break down the stereotypes and preconceived notions that new parents face.

As the captions state, “No matter which way you care for your baby, just know there’s no one ‘right’ way. Only our way. To #RealDads everywhere, trust your way.”

U.K. Rejects Petition Protecting Women From Being Forced To Wear Heels At Work

One step forward, one painful step back.

A petition to ban mandatory high heels in the workplace has been rejected by Parliament in the U.K.

Nicola Thorp, a London-based equality campaigner who was sent home from her temp job in 2016 for not wearing heels, garnered over 150,000 signatures on a petition to change legislation regarding dress code. The legislation currently states employers have a right to send staff home if they deem their outfits to be unreasonable.

The government acknowledged that Thorp’s petition shed light on an issue regarding awareness and enforcement of current dress code laws, but called the current legislation “adequate.” The government also confirmed it would be “producing guidance on dress codes in the workplace as a specific response to the Thorp petition and the issues it raises,” hopefully this summer.

The news comes just weeks after a similar law banning mandatory high heels at work was passed in Canada. British Columbia’s government declared it unsafe to force employees to wear high heels, due to risk of injury and damage from prolonged wear. The decision came after a woman who was forced to wear heels at work posted a photo of her bloody feet, and it went viral.

In its response to the U.K. petition, the Petitions Committee and Women’s Equality Committee questioned how many instances of this practice are actually happening in the country.

“We are aware of very few actual employment tribunal cases involving an employer’s requirements on the appearance of its employees—the focus of the petition and the inquiry which followed it,” their statement said.

Still, the U.K. government expressed a dedication to ensuring safe and comfortable working conditions for all its employees. “The Government takes this issue very seriously and will continue to work hard to ensure women are not held back in the workplace by outdated attitudes and practices.”

It seems that notion could be easily proven by abolishing the outdated and quite frankly unsafe law. Here’s hoping there’s more change to come this summer.

Why Zoe Saldana Is Cool Buying Her Sons' Clothes In The Girls' Section

When shopping for clothes for her three sons, Zoe Saldana cares more about whether her kids like the clothes than the section in which she finds them.

In an interview with Refinery29, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” actress explained how she picks out toys and clothes for Zen, her youngest son whom she welcomed earlier this year, and 2-year-old twins, Bowie and Cy. For her, it’s all about what her kids like, whether it’s a color, design or another detail of the clothing.

“We choose it because they need pants, they need shirts, and things like that,” she said. “But if they have a preference of a color or a shape or a person or an animal or a story, we will never choose things for them because of their gender.”

Saldana then told Refinery29 that her twins have actually been mistaken for girls because she and her husband, artist Marco Perego, dress them “quite colorfully.”

Saldana expressed the same sentiments in an interview with People earlier this month. She said Cy and Bowie have particularly been into picking out their shoes. Their preference? “Different pairs of glittery, bright pink trainers.”

“We get them their masculine ones. They don’t like those,” she said. “They want the glitter, the glitter bright pink ones, and we’re like, so be it.”

The mom of three also said she never avoids the girls’ section when shopping for her kids, who like wearing leggings and lots of color. Saldana simply wants to make sure her sons enjoy picking out their clothes.

“So we find ourselves always sliding into the girls’ section, and we have fun.”

This Is What Your Teeth Can Reveal About Your Overall Health

$

The dentist may not be your favorite appointment, but it’s a necessity.

Good oral hygiene saves you from more than just tooth decay, cavities and bad breath. It is critically important because it can help prevent certain medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.

And here’s something else: The state of your teeth, mouth and gums can clue your dentist into other medical issues you may need to address. By examining your mouth, your dentist can identify eating disorders, sleeping problems, anxiety, stress and more.

Below are some of the things dentists can see about your overall wellness just by looking your mouth:

1. Anxiety or poor sleep.

Your teeth could be a clue to any distress you might be feeling. Stress, anxiety or a sleep disorder can cause teeth grinding. Bruxism, the medical term for teeth grinding, is significantly more frequent in people with obstructive sleep apnea, according to research.

“The surfaces of the teeth become flat and the teeth get worn down,” Charles Rankin, DDS and professor at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, told HuffPost, noting that a healthy tooth reaches a certain height and has an uneven, bumpy crown. “Grinding your teeth [at night] makes that height go down.”

The most important thing you can do if you grind your teeth, advises Rankin, is to talk to your dentist about getting a night guard to prevent it from happening.

“Then the patient really needs to get into an exercise program or have stress counseling,” Rankin said.

2. Eating disorders.

Certain types of disordered eating, such as anorexia or bulimia, can be apparent to a dentist. Research shows that gastric acid from purging, which is associated with the conditions, can erode both tooth enamel and dentine, the softer layer just underneath the enamel. The erosion is usually found on the backside of the teeth, Rankin said.

But while enamel erosion can prompt dentists to inquire about eating disorders, it is not always the culprit. Enamel erosion can be genetic or congenital, Panos Papapanou, DDS and professor of dental medicine at Columbia University told HuffPost. Even acid reflux could be the cause.

3. Poor diet.

Coffee, tea, sauces like marinara, energy drinks and dark berries leave their mark. So does chocolate, candy and dark soda. How you may ask? Stains.

“But there are things you can do,” Rankin said. “Drink coffee and soda through a straw ― so it stays away from the tooth. Rinsing and brushing right after you eat helps immensely.”

And we all know that sugar can cause cavities. But according to Rankin, if patients actually brushed and flossed every time they ate candy, the risk of a dental issue would be much smaller.

4. Alcohol abuse.

Alcohol abuse can cause good oral hygiene habits to fall by the wayside and dentists can smell alcohol on a patient’s breath, according to Rankin.

A 2015 study in the Journal of Periodontology also found some insight into the drinking and oral health connection. Brazilian researchers discovered that gum disease, or periodontitis, increased with drinking frequency. The study also showed that overall poor oral hygiene is a common trait among people who excessively drink. The researchers also found that study participants without gum disease had higher levels of plaque than non-drinkers, possibly due to the way alcohol slows down the production of saliva and dries out the mouth.

5. Heart disease or diabetes.

“Among people that are unaware of whether they have diabetes or not, poor gum status has been shown to be associated with diabetes,” Papapanou said. “This is a pretty critical situation in which a dentist can help to identify undiagnosed diabetes.”

The relationship between periodontitis and diabetes is not yet totally understood, however researchers know it is a two-way street: Diabetes increases the risk of gum disease, and gum inflammation negatively impacts the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar, according to a study published in Diabetologia. And it could be inflammation of the gum that is causing the association between gum disease, diabetes and periodontitis, according to the American Academy of Periodontology.

Furthermore, people with diabetes are three times more likely to experience this most severe type of gum disease. So, if you have diabetes or cardiovascular disease, stay on top of your oral health through regular cleanings, brushing and flossing. It’s possible that bacteria can get under inflamed gums and aggravate these diseases further, Rankin noted.

Just as with keeping any area of your body healthy, it’s best to keep tabs on what might not feel right and to stay curious about what is happening in the mouth. That includes looking for “pain, swelling, bleeding gums, broken or loose teeth, enamel erosion,” Rankin explained.

“If the dentist goes in there and sees this, he or she has to question [the patient],” he said. “But the patient is really the first line of defense.”

Nordstrom Sells $425 Jeans That Are Covered In Fake Mud

If you’re still grappling with the fact that people pay money to buy jeans with holes in them, you might want to look away right now.

Nordstrom, purveyor of some pretty questionable items, sells a pair of men’s jeans that are covered in fake mud. Worse yet, the jeans ― designed by PRPS ― will set you back $425.

According to the description, the jeans “embody rugged, Americana workwear that’s seen some hard-working action” and proudly feature “a crackled, caked-on muddy coating that shows you’re not afraid to get down and dirty.”

We’re not sure there’s anything we’d want less on our clothing than caked-on, muddy coating.

If you really feel the need to walk around looking like a pile of dirt, it’d be in your best interest to just roll around in the mud in the jeans you already have.

Or, you could take this Twitter user up on his or her gracious offer. Either way.

Behold! The Unicorn Frappuccino Is Now A Hairstyle

A hair stylist in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is getting a taste of fame after creating a look based on Starbuck’s Unicorn Frappuccino.

Kelly O’Leary-Woodford was working at her salon, the Sapphire Hair Lounge, last Wednesday when she heard about the limited-time drink.

“A radio station said it was giving them away, so I let them know I’d make someone’s hair look like a Unicorn Frappuccino,” O’Leary-Woodford told HuffPost. “Luckily, I had a blonde customer who just got a new job and was up for some fun colors.”

UNICORN FRAPPUCCINO?! UNICORN HAIR!!! Stay tuned tonight for a hilarious video!!! Ps. My clients are amazing. @kianarae96

A post shared by Winnipeg Canada (@hairbymisskellyo) on

In order to get the colors right, O’Leary-Woodford sent out for one of the freakish frapps ― and extra straws.

“It cost $10,” she said, adding that she couldn’t help by take a few sips.

“It was better than I thought,” she said. “I thought it would be like a milkshake, but it was more like a sour candy.”

The Unicorn Frappuccino was criticized for being basically a sugar bomb, thanks to its mango syrup base, sour blue drizzle and vanilla whipped cream topping ― and, of course, sweet pink and sour blue powders.

O’Leary-Woodford promises her hair style won’t add nearly as many calories.

“My hair coloring is definitely healthier than the drink,” she said. “If you color hair nice and slow, it’s fine. Plus, the ingredients I use help condition the hair.”

O’Leary-Woodford’s hairstyle went viral, but no one else has asked for it. That’s a good thing, she said, since the Unicorn Frappuccino hairstyle isn’t for everyone.

“It depends on how you’ve colored your hair before,” she said. “Plus, it’s easier for people with blonde hair.”

The Unicorn Frappuccino was only served at Starbucks for five days, and O’Leary hopes her hair-raising interpretation has an equally short shelf life.

“I think its day is done and I’m moving on to the next thing,” she said, before pointing out another Instagram video in which she made the back of a customer’s head look like a slice of pizza.

Behold Casu Marzu, The One Cheese This Chemist Would NEVER Eat

Ah maggot cheese, we almost forgot you existed.

Michael Tunick, a research chemist for the United States Department of Agriculture, recently told Business Insider that maggot cheese ― also known as Casu Marzu― is the one cheese he’d never eat. And for good reason!

Casu Marzu, which is popular in Sardinia, Italy, is made from sheep’s milk. It contains live maggots, which helped earn its title as “the world’s most dangerous cheese.”

There are a few ways to make it. Generally, people cut the rind of the cheese and then let it sit in a dark hut for about two to three months while larvae hatches on it. The larvae eat the cheese and then excrete on it, giving Casa Marzu its unmistakable flavor. But don’t worry ― before the cheese is served, the maggots are generally killed.

Tradizioni .... fuck EURO #casumarzu

A post shared by Nicola Cecchini Cx (@cixini_nicola) on

“[When serving the cheese] what they generally do is either scrape off the insects before you eat it or they put the cheese in a paper bag and you can hear the insects popping around off the inside of the bag,” Tunick explained in a video for Business Insider. “And you wait until that noise dies down, meaning that the insects have basically died.”

Then, bon appétit! Just make sure to really chew so you kill all the leftover live maggots.

Anna Ward, a cheese writer, tried Casa Marzu a few years ago and documented her experience for Serious Eats:

“I bit. I chewed. I cringed. My friends grappled with what they had just choked down. It was strong, challenging, but actually very enjoyable. It hinted of gorgonzola and black pepper but left a thick film in my mouth, preventing me from forgetting the little buggies currently digesting inside my stomach.”

Sounds... interesting.

Princess Diana And Prince Charles Both Messed Up Their Wedding Vows

Wedding day jitters are natural, whether you have to keep your composure in front of a few dozen guests or 750,000,000 and Queen Elizabeth II

Cosmopolitan U.K. recently resurfaced a blunder made by Princess Diana as she recited her vows to Prince Charles at their 1981 wedding. Instead of calling him Charles Phillip Arthur George, she swapped his first two names, referring to him instead as Phillip Charles Arthur George ― despite both Charles and the officiant just having recited it correctly (and, you know, it being her husband’s name).

In Diana’s defense, four names is a lot to remember. And Charles didn’t get through the widely watched fairytale event clean, either: According to the BBC, he vowed to endow “thy goods,” rather than “my worldly goods.”

Neither mistake is a big deal, but they are humanizing moments we can’t help but revisit. They’re a good reminder that nerves get to everyone, and there’s no such thing as a flawless wedding day, anyway.

Plus, we never thought Diana would have something in common with the likes of Ross Gellar, who named the wrong woman in his vows, or Jessica Simpson, who reportedly said her own name instead of husband Eric Johnson’s.

Consider this a friendly reminder that even princesses of both the British and pop persuasion have made totally relatable wedding day mistakes.

'Hot Convict' Jeremy Meeks Deported From London

The American lawbreaker who became a viral internet sensation as the “hot convict” because of his visually arresting mugshot won’t get a chance to show England he’s become a model citizen.

Jeremy Meeks, 33, now a fashion model who had traveled to London for a photo shoot, was deported Monday night from Heathrow Airport because of his previous criminal record, according to the Daily Mail.

“I’ve been denied,” Meeks said as he walked through the airport, according to “Inside Edition.” “London don’t want me here. I done served my time. S*** is crazy. Don’t make no sense.”

Meeks, became known as the “hot convict” in June 2014 after the Stockton Police Department in California arrested him on weapons and gang charges, and his mugshot went viral. He spent two years behind bars, and was freed in March 2016.

The “hot con” has been working as a fashion model since February. But he never got beyond the airport for his London assignment.

Meeks’ manager, Joe Jordan, said his client’s paperwork to enter the U.K. was in order. Meeks also had a letter from his parole officer giving him permission to travel, according to the New York Daily News.

None of that held any sway with U.K. immigration officials, who escorted him onto a plane eight hours after he landed in London.

Jordan told the Daily Mail he hopes Meeks’ visa problem is temporary.

“He was on the right track for what we feel was going to be his new life. Now he’s very sad,” Jordan said. “Hopefully this is just a setback and he will be able to come back from this.”
