The Cannes Film Festival is the perfect intersection of art, celebrity, glamour and, well, money. It’s basically the best black-tie affair of the year.

Those who walk the red carpet go all out ― and then some ― with their outfits. The men gravitate toward tuxes while women wear incredible bespoke gowns paired with shimmering jewels.

Bella Hadid kicked off the night in a daring dress with a thigh-high slit and a necklace that would rival Rose’s in “Titanic.” Emily Ratajkowski basically copied Bella’s iconic Cannes look from last year (slit and all), while Susan Sarandon gave us everything in a green velvet dress with ― you guessed it ― a thigh high slit.

Take a look at the most interesting looks from Cannes so far:

Bella Hadid

Emily Ratajkowski

Susan Sarandon

Eva Herzigová

Julianne Moore

Jessica Chastain

Coco Konig

Naomie Harris

Robin Wright

Lily-Rose Depp

Dress Made Out Of 10,000 Starburst Wrappers Has A Sweet Backstory

Starburst is a polarizing candy as far as flavor preferences go.

But allow us to set aside our differences for one glorious moment to bask in this this magnificent labor of love: A dress made out of 10,000 Starburst wrappers.

Emily Seilhamer describes herself on her Facebook page as an artist whose “passions are painting, upcycling, sewing, and crafting.” But after the four years, according to Mashable, she spent collecting, sorting, ironing and stringing together thousands of wrappers, we’d say she’s also a master in patience too.

Seilhamer is more than just a devoted member of team pink (or red, or yellow). The beloved candy holds a special meaning to the artist and her husband.

“My husband and I met when he offered me a pack of Starburst a few years before the project started,” she wrote on the caption of the dress photo album. “As his favorite candy he began to save grocery bags full of wrappers for me… The dress had a nice spot next to the gift table at our wedding almost 2 years ago!”

Seilhamer used underwear elastic in matching shades as the wrappers to seal the edges and make a zipper. To make things even more impressive, she revealed in a comment on her Facebook page that she has “never used a pattern or learned how to make garments,” adding, “been teaching myself as I go!”

Color us all the Starburst flavors in the world impressed.

Got $20 Million? Use It To Move Next Door To The Queen

We haven’t pined over a neighbor this badly since Mr. Rogers was on television.

London’s Buckingham Gate is a six-unit lap of luxury building which, according to its brochure, is made up of “impressive grand two and three bedroom apartments, crafted out of three 19th-century Grade II Listed townhouses.”

It’s also situated right next door to and overlooking ― you guessed it ― Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth II’s famous London residence.

Its pièce de résistance is a $20 million-plus penthouse that spans 5,189 square feet, two floors and two buildings, boasts three bedrooms, three private terraces and was designed by “one of the most celebrated names in the world of contemporary interiors.” It is aptly referred to as the “jewel in the crown” of the project, according to House Beautiful UK.

An apartment situated on the first and second floor will run you around a cooler $14 million. But if you’re going to go big, you might as well pick the pad that could potentially give you a direct view at the queen rolling around the driveway in her Jaguar. At least that’s what we imagine she’s doing behind those closed gates.

And who knows? Perhaps her majesty will be coming knocking on your door in her jammies one night for a cup of milk.

Us mere mortals (with deep pockets) can dream.

It seems Eva Longoria can rock nearly anything on the red carpet, even a dress that’s backward.

As this year’s Cannes Film Festival begins, the actress celebrated more than a decade of attending the event by posting a throwback photo on Instagram and revealing a “fun fact.”

In the photo Longoria shared on Wednesday, the star is wearing a dress with a deep plunge in the front. But it turns out that plunge was supposed to go in the back.

“Flashback to my first year in Cannes 12 years ago!” she wrote in the photo caption. “I look like a baby! Fun fact: I had my dress on backward Yep. Backwards and didn’t know it!!!!”

No worries, Eva. We didn’t know it, either.

Celebrity Men Are Staking Claim On Who Wore The 'RompHim' First

The “RompHim,” a Kickstarter project that’s designing rompers specifically for men, has taken the internet by storm this week.

Many a tweet and hot take have debated the necessity of a male romper, whether men should even wear them (newsflash: you can wear whatever you want), and whether or not the article of clothing needs to be renamed.

Others have gotten into the whole “who wore it first” debate. While some have pointed to Cam Newton’s recent Coachella outfit, the internet has decided that Sean Connery was the first (and the greatest) to rock this polarizing article of clothing:

It looks like the OriginalRompHim Instagram account, the people behind the Kickstarter campaign, agree:

Newton did recently rock a romper, though it had a slightly bigger inseam than Connery’s look:

But as Andy Cohen pointed out on Tuesday’s episode of “Watch What Happens Live,” he was wearing rompers before they were popular.

Here’s what I want to know,” Cohen said. “Why do you need a Kickstarter for an item of clothing, especially when I kickstarted the RompHim two years ago?”

It appears the RompHim will soon have a little competition, as Reebok recently announced that it’s introducing the “ReeRomp” in just a few days.

According to the product description, this is an $89 athletic version of the RompHim. It was “built for bros” and “will keep you cool in more ways than one.” Sounds ... great?

The Outrageous Looks At Cannes Will Make You Do A Double Take

While the current trend at Cannes is thigh-high slits and lots of cleavage, some people are instead showcasing their unusual (and in some cases, ill-advised) sense of style on the film festival’s red carpet.

Actress Victoria Abril’s outfit offended many on the red carpet with her confusing ensemble and cornrows. Others make an appearance on this list for just being straight-up visually ... interesting. There are crazy capes, oversize T-shirts that hit the ground and bizarre silhouettes.

Take a look at the list below and celebrate the weirdness with us:

The RompHim Isn't Just Lame Wordplay, It's A Sign Of Male Fragility

$

0

Candles, yogurt, rosé, and now rompers: Our capitalistic marketplace overflows with desirable, fun products that suffer from their association with women. Fortunately, businesses have found a way to market their goods to both women and men: bro branding. (”Bronding”?)

We’ve had mandles, brogurt, brosé, and now the latest example, the RompHim™, a short jumpsuit for men. The RompHim launched via Kickstarter this week and quickly drew derision from Twitter wits. Men in rompers! Imagine!

The summer romper, a cute number that typically looks like a sundress with shorts instead of a skirt, has firmly established itself in the past few years as a popular option for women. Though nearly impossible in bathroom contexts (nothing like hovering naked over a public toilet with one’s entire outfit pooled around one’s ankles to induce skepticism of the trend), it’s otherwise quite convenient. Women can have all the flirty style of a short sundress without the fear of stiff winds, bicycling and sitting cross-legged.

Both men and women have rocked jumpsuits before this latest romper bubble, but the sudden popularity of ruffled, floral jumpsuits for women seems to have tainted the style’s gender-neutral reputation. Many of the recent Twitter jibes directed at the garment centered around the absurdity of a man dressing like a woman ― showing up to a date wearing the same romper as his female counterpart, preening himself over his cute new look, etc.

There’s a genuine merit to the RompHim™ approach: Rompers are convenient (probably even more so for men, who will be able to pee in a romper without disrobing), and they’ve become ubiquitous in women’s fashion but not men’s. But it’s infuriating that advertisers have come to rely on artificial layers of masculinization to convince men to buy products that should be gender-neutral.

Pink wine? That’s girl stuff. Brosé, though, that’s something for bros. Yogurt is something ladies in grey hoodies eat to maintain their svelte figures in between mothering and wifing, but brogurt is powerful, protein-packed nourishment for men. Scented candles are chick tchotchkes, but a mandle redolent of freshly mown football fields is perfect for your man cave. The products are marketed directly at men who actually want scented candles, rompers and rosé, but who fear their very masculinity will come into question if they indulge.

Even as feminists chip away at the socially constructed gender roles that men and women have long felt obligated to perform, male anxiety seems more pervasive than ever. While women feel empowered to lean in to male roles ― and styles ― men battle internal and external pressure to protect a male-only space that distinguishes them from the “weaker” sex. Women today wear pants, Oxford shoes and shirts, and menswear-inspired everything; it’s still rare to see a man in a skirt, and many even find men in shorts to be laughable. Our conception of what men can wear remains as narrow as it was 50 years ago, if not more so.

In the past, activists have mocked the pinkification of products to appeal to women ― perhaps most hilariously, Bic for Her ballpoint pens ― but apparently when women buy basic, mainstream products, men become embarrassed to consume the same things. It’s not too hard to get women to buy gender-neutral items (or even male-coded ones: think of the popularity of “boyfriend” jeans). After all, liking and using things men like and use can result in higher status for women. Drink whiskey, watch football, down a plateful of wings ― as long as you’re hot, you’re the perfect woman, and even if you’re not a solid nine, your choices will at least be deemed respectable.

It’s men who nurture the more acute anxiety about gender neutrality. (This makes sense; in a world divided neatly into men and women, men have almost uniformly gleaned the advantages from this demarcation.) A man watching “Real Housewives” with a glass of zinfandel in a romper is flouting gender norms, but by adopting the lesser-respected female-coded habits. His wine and outfit need to be placed in a separate, more macho category than the identical versions consumed by women. “Don’t worry,” says a carton emblazoned with the name Powerful Yogurt, “just because you’re eating yogurt like a lady doesn’t mean you’re effeminate! You’re still the man here.”

A 2016 follow-up on brogurt noted that brands like Powerful Yogurt were going “gender-neutral”: “[Excluding women] was a risk,” said one executive of their male-focused advertising. Was it, though? Women have always been OK buying products coded as male ― even as men run screaming from anything pink or cute. RompHim suggests their men’s cut rompers as a good option for women who prefer a unisex silhouette; the reverse of that two-birds-one-stone approach would never work out.

The veritable rash of bro-ified terms for non-gendered products shows how deep male fragility runs: A man’s manhood requires constant signaling and buttressing to remain secure. Men who step out of line are derided as emasculated and sexually confused. For men to reap the benefits of a gender-neutral world, we rely on verbal tricks that only reinforce the gender-normative stereotypes that keep men boxed in. The real progress will be made when men can drink rosé in a romper without a single batted eyelash or “bro” prefix.

Hot Barber Styles Clients' Hair With Great Balls Of Fire

YouTube is often a training ground for amateur beauty gurus, but one man in Egypt has harnessed the platform’s power to heat up his career in an unconventional way.

Young people in Cairo are visiting hairstylist Mohamed Hanafy so he can set their hair on fire, according to news station CGTN Africa, the international branch of China state broadcaster CCTV. It’s a technique that Hanafy says he learned after watching a YouTube video showing a Pakistani barber using a similar technique.

Hanafy uses a blowtorch and hair products to literally light his clients’ locks on fire to straighten their hair.

Hanafy claims that his hot hair treatment allows his clients’ hair to stay straight longer than with traditional methods. He also says that the fire helps preserve color, prevents split ends and destroys removes dandruff.

The Cairo hairstylist also says he had a hard time persuading his clients to let him light up their ’do when he first tried the technique.

“How can I tell them that I will set their hair on fire and convince them that it won’t harm them at all ― that on the contrary it would improve it?” Hanafy says in the video, according to a translation from CGTN Africa.

Hanafy says his technique works best on clients with thick hair because it is better at taking the heat.

Hanafy modeled his technique after that of Shafqat Rajput, a barber in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, whose videos went viral earlier this year.

However, Rajput’s technique appears to be slightly different than Hanafy’s. According to a video shared by HuffPost India, Rajput appears to use a simple lighter.

Hanafy appears to use a torch that has a stronger and continuous flame.

Watch Rajput light his clients’ hair below.

This hot trend is similar to the technique of stylist Ramadan Odwan, whose salon has become popular in the city of Rafah on the southern Gaza Strip.

Odwan, owner of First Look salon, told the Middle Eastern news site Al-Monitor that he used a protective cream and claimed that the heat from the fire barely touched the hair. Odwan said in February that barbers in Gaza have used fire to remove ear hair since 1990.

Hanafy may have just started torching his clients into a stylish new look, but it seems like he’s already a pro.

He recently told CGTN Africa, “Thankfully, work has been going smoothly since I began.”

The pair also took time out to talk fashion and swap clothes, before acting out iconic movie scenes as the focus turned to Styles’ new acting career.

The duo clearly had fun filming the segment, as there was plenty of this:

The images, released Thursday, feature the three women, a Jet Ski and some hunky male lifeguards ― basically all the makings of a perfect swimsuit ad, if you ask us.

Barack Obama's Leather Jacket Has Been Hiding In His Closet This Whole Time

In a twist that should come as a surprise to no one, it turns out Barack Obama’s stellar sense of style ― the one he’s been unknowingly using to tug at our heart strings for months ― has been waiting to emerge for quite some time.

A new story in People Magazine about the Obamas’ lives since leaving the White House offers revelations about the former president’s seemingly recent passion for fashion, including one of his more buzzed about staples: The brown leather jacket. As it turns out, there’s nothing new about it at all.

“He’s had that jacket for quite some time,” Anita Decker Breckinridge, Obama’s chief of staff told the mag. “He really likes that jacket. People think he looks good in the jacket. He’s had it for a long time. I just don’t think he’s had the opportunity to wear it. When does the President ever get to go out in his leather jacket? It’s not something we see.”

It’s true that Obama has really taken the bull by the well-dressed horns in the past few months, whether in bomber jackets or unbuttoned shirts. But with this new development, we can’t help but picture the former president staring longingly at the jacket during his tenure in office, waiting for the glorious day he’d get to wear it freely while still looking like (and being) a total boss.

Anyone else excited to see what sartorial blessings Obama is sure to bestow upon us this summer?

These Are The Best Mineral Sunscreens, According To Dermatologists

$

0

We all know that wearing SPF is important, but chemical sunscreens ― the kind you’ve probably been wearing for years ― can be irritating for some people with sensitive skin. That’s where mineral sunscreen comes in.

Mineral sunscreens help prevent sun damage, just like traditional sunscreens, but they do so using physical blockers like zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. These  ingredients work by reflecting the sun off your skin, as opposed to absorbing and transforming harmful rays on the skin as chemical sunscreens containing the likes of oxybenzone, avobenzone and homosalate do.

With so many mineral sunscreens on the market now, it can be difficult to know which might be best for you. So we called up a couple of experts: Dr. Janellen Smith, a dermatologist at UC Irvine Health, and Dr. Angela Lamb, director of the Westside Mount Sinai Dermatology faculty practice, director of dermatology at the Institute of Family Health and an assistant dermatology professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Smith told HuffPost what matters most of all is picking a product you’re actually going to use.

“Mineral sunscreens are thicker and may leave a whitish color on your skin, so if this keeps you from wearing it, that is not good, and ‘medically’ means you are higher risk for skin cancer,” she said. “On the other hand, chemical sunscreens tend to have more ingredients and may be more irritating for sensitive skin. So both the irritation and your tendency to avoid them could leave you with a medical problem.”

Keep in mind as you shop around that although it most often refers to mineral sunscreens, “natural” is “not a term that dermatologists use” when referring to sunscreen, as Smith previously told HuffPost, nor is the term legally regulated in personal care products. Remember that the real danger of sun exposure isn’t the use of chemicals in sunscreen. But no matter which type of sunscreen you choose, make sure it’s labeled “broad spectrum” for protection from both types of harmful rays and has an SPF of 30 or greater.

Check out Dr. Lamb and Dr. Smith’s picks for best mineral sunscreens below.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson Is Marking His Wedding Anniversary In A Stylish, Charitable Way

$

Four years after his own wedding, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is once again in a matrimonial state of mind.

On Tuesday, the “Modern Family” star unveiled a line of six, limited edition bow tie designs inspired by his 2013 wedding. Sales of the ties, which are available exclusively at The Tie Bar, will benefit Tie The Knot, an advocacy organization founded by Ferguson and his husband, Justin Mikita, in 2012. For every $25 tie sold, $20 will be given to the couple’s non-profit, which supports various groups “that are in the trenches fighting” for LGBTQ equality.

Ferguson and Mikita have previously designed other bow ties, including a special Pride-themed tie, as part of their charitable work for Tie The Knot. The new line, Ferguson said, is symbolic of both the couple’s fourth wedding anniversary and the fifth anniversary of their organization.

“We took inspiration from different colors, fabrics, and textiles we had at our own wedding and then colorized them with what was trending in the wedding market,” Ferguson, who wed Mikita in an intimate New York ceremony on July 20, 2013, told HuffPost. “We always look to what’s happening in our lives for what we’re inspired by. Many of our friends were also getting married this year so it felt like a good time to go back do a wedding collection that incorporated our own taste level.”

When the couple founded Tie The Knot in 2012, the organization was almost exclusively focused on marriage equality. Now that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states following the Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling, Tie The Knot’s emphasis has shifted to include other queer-relevant issues such as anti-discrimination efforts, Ferguson said.

“I think anyone who feels like we are done after achieving marriage equality is woefully uninformed. There are states in the U.S. where you can be married on a Saturday and fired on a Monday, just because you wed the person you love,” he said. “There is still a lot of work to be done to protect the long-term well-being of the LGBTQ community.”

The 41-year-old, who nabbed a Drama Desk Award last year for his performance in Broadway’s “Fully Committed,” said he’s received some criticism on Twitter for sharing his political views. Ultimately, he explained, that type of pushback doesn’t concern him.

“I’m part of the LGBTQ community and I have experienced suppression as a gay man firsthand. I’m grateful to have come out on the other end happy and healthy,” he told HuffPost. “I want that for all my LGBTQ brothers and sisters... Democracy survives because we all care about the state of our nation. Republicans, Democrats... everyone.”

Seems like politicians are linked to fashion more than ever these days. Ivanka Trump is constantly in the news for her clothing line, Sarah Palin ruined the off-the-shoulder look for half of Americans, and now Ted Cruz is weighing in on the RompHim

The Texas senator tweeted about the romper for men while partaking in a caption contest for a viral photo of Sen. Chuck Schumer, Sen. Ben Basse and Sen. Tom Cotton.

Cruz (or potentially one of his aides) wrote:

And many found it funny:

But others weren’t impressed:

And some just wanted more fashion commentary from Cruz:

Regardless, we’re ready to stop talking about the RompHim.

It Only Took These Moms 5 Minutes To Hilariously Sum Up Swimsuit Season

Millions of people online are loving two moms’ take on the highs and lows ― OK, mainly lows ― of swimsuit season.

Kristin Hensley and Jen Smedley, the creators behind the web series “#IMomSoHard,” released a video on Thursday in which they tackle the pressures of putting on a swimsuit and offer some encouraging advice to fellow mothers.

In the hilarious video, which has been viewed more than 5 million times in 24 hours, the moms laugh along with each other as they model “unreasonable” swimsuits with various cutouts and designs. Throughout the funny fashion show, they insist it’d be difficult to discipline their kids while wearing the swimsuits and demonstrate how impractical they are for picking up toys and chasing children at the beach.

All humor aside, Hensley and Smedley reminded their fans to forget about the pressures and put on the swimsuit they like and have fun.

“Nobody thinks that they look perfect ever,” Smedley said. “Let’s just all go to the beach.”

Hensley also explained how she’ll pass on that mentality to her daughter.

“I want my daughter to love her life and to love herself and she’s not going to do it because I tell her to do it,” she said. “She’s going to do it because I teach her to do it.”
