Lily-Rose Depp Is The New Face Of Chanel

Only a few months ago, Lily-Rose Depp was turning heads at the Chanel show with her famous mother, Vanessa Paradis. As of Wednesday, the 16-year-old daughter of actor Johnny Depp is now the face of Chanel Eyewear for the brand's Fall/Winter 2015-2016 campaign.

According to a press release, Karl Lagerfeld himself picked Depp to become the face of the Pearl eyewear collection. "Lily-Rose is stunning, she's a young girl from a new generation with all the qualities of a star," said Lagerfeld, who also shot the campaign. In the ad, the young model and actress is supposed to be a "baby-doll in a world imbued with sweetness and femininity." Depp can be seen wearing an ivory top with a ruffled collar, a pair of Pearl Chanel sunglasses and a dark red pout.

Depp's mother, Paradis, has been a longtime friend and muse of the designer. She was also named an ambassador for the brand in 1990, and was the face of the Girl Chanel handbag.

Depp bears a striking resemblance to her mother, who is pictured below in 1990.

Elle UK Thinks Katy Perry Inspired A Hair Trend Black Women Have Worn For Decades

$

Baby hair is nothing new to black women but Elle UK thinks it’s a "trend."

In a recent article, the fashion magazine wrote that the "wispy hairs" were "inspired by Givenchy and Katy Perry." Later in the piece, the writer also credits FKA Twigs and the Givenchy AW15 show. But let's be clear: white celebrities adopting the slicked-down look may be new, but gelling down baby hair is certainly not.

In giving only Katy Perry, Givenchy and FKA Twigs (who is half black) the nod for this “trend,” they overlooked the countless black girls who, for decades, have carried a brush and a jar of black gel to achieve the sleek style.

This isn’t the first time a common trait among black culture has been dubbed as a “new" trend by the fashion world.

In 2014, Marie Claire posted a tweet with a picture of Kendall Jenner that described her half-braided hair as a style that was "new" and "epic." The backlash from Black Twitter was heavy and swift -- users called out the glossy for failing to credit the look as a hairstyle that black men and women have worn for centuries.

Elle should’ve known better or, at the very least, practiced caution, especially considering that they faced similar backlash when they described Timberland boots as “the new Birkenstocks" last year. The article also said they “predict” the shoes would come back in style -- as if black people haven't been wearing them for decades.

The only trend we see here is fashion magazines and their blatant ignorance around black culture.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner sparkled on the red carpet at the 2015 ESPY Awards on Wednesday night, but the evening was not about them.

The Jenner sisters attended the award show to support and celebrate their parent Caitlyn Jenner, who is set to receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, which is given to those "possessing strength in the face of adversity, courage in the face of peril and the willingness to stand up for their beliefs no matter what the cost."

The 65-year-old former Olympian opted not to walk the red carpet, as a rep for the star explained to Gossip Cop, "It’s not about the press coverage. It’s an award for courage.”

Also in attendance and showing their support for Jenner, were stepdaughters Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, who made the very uncharacteristic decision not to walk the red carpet, either. However, Kim's hairstylist, Chris McMillan shared a sneak peek photo of the reality star's look for the evening on Instagram.

Jenner's sons Burt, Brandon, Brody and daughter Casey from her previous marriages also showed up in celebration of Jenner's award:

It was truly a family affair, as Jenner's 88-year-old mother Esther sat next to the star before she accepted her award.

The former athlete first came out as transgender in an interview with Diane Sawyer in April and formally introduced herself as Caitlyn to the world this past June with with a 22-page Vanity Fair cover story. Since that glamorous and inspiration introduction, Jenner has started her foray into advocacy work in the transgender community

George Hamilton Reveals The Best City To Get A Lasting Tan

$

As a man who is as well known for his perpetually tanned skin as he is for his lengthy acting career, George Hamilton is a formidable authority on the art of the suntan. What started as a calculated way for Hamilton to pick up girls in his teens has since become a part of the 75-year-old's legacy, and now he's sharing some of his own tanning advice with "Oprah: Where Are They Now -- Extra."

First and foremost, Hamilton clarifies that his need to tan is more than skin-deep. "It's not the spray tan that I'm after," he says in the above video. "It's the actual 'plug-in' to the sun that I feel when I'm in it."

While science clearly outlines the risks of too much UV exposure, Hamilton believes that getting at least a little bit of sun has its benefits.

"It's always been a kind of health thing -- and I know there are a lot of conflicting views about that," he says. "I think there's a lot of people who have Vitamin D deficiency now... I think you need 15 minutes in the sun every day. Everyone. Maybe not the direct sun, but everyone needs it."

Hamilton has spent his fair share of time sunning himself in cities around the world, but only one place stands out as his favorite for getting beautifully bronzed skin that really lasts -- and it's not Hawaii. "By the time you get back on the plane from Hawaii, you're already faded! It doesn't last. I peeled once and underneath it I had an old tan from 1959," he jokes.

Instead, Hamilton points to a California city as offering a much better "investment."

"I would say the best place to get a tan, for me, is Palm Springs," he says. "It's the best tan. It stays."

Some of Hamilton's companions have enjoyed tanning almost as much as he does, including the late Elizabeth Taylor. ("She could actually out-suntan me," he says.) In the same "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" interview, Hamilton recalls what happened when a paparazzi snapped topless tanning photos of Taylor while the couple dated back in the 80s.

"Oprah: Where Are They Now -- Extra" is a digital series from the OWN show "Oprah: Where Are They Now?"

Hijab-Wearing Teen Wins Best-Dressed Because 'Being True To Yourself' Is Always In Style

This young woman honors her religion with style and grace.

Abrar Shahin, a Muslim teen who wears a hijab -- a symbol of modesty in her faith -- was awarded best-dressed at her New Jersey high school this spring, Today.com reported. The 18-year-old is proud of herself for winning, and of her classmates for making an unconventional choice for the superlative, telling the news outlet, "I am honored to come from a generation that is accepting. … Growing up in this society can be difficult, but the only way to advance and break stereotypes is to stay true to ourselves and our beliefs."

Shahin has always had an interest in fashion, and as she developed her personal style, she found ways to incorporate her hijab.

“First and foremost, modesty is my no. 1 priority,” Shahin told The Huffington Post in an email. “I love keeping up with the latest trends and putting a modest twist to them!”

For inspiration, Shahin says she loves the “hijabi fashionistas” on Instagram -- women who wear head coverings and involve them in stylish outfits. While a hijab is worn to maintain modesty and privacy, Shahin says it doesn’t restrict self-expression, and that there are often misconceptions about hijab-wearing women.

“People think we are oppressed, not allowed to do many things and are forced to wear hijab,” she told HuffPost. “But the truth is hijab is my choice. Yes, it's a command from Allah, but I chose to wear it. It identifies who I am, and helps me express myself. I can never see myself without it.”

Shahin’s spirit and style stood out among the 800 students in her graduating class, and also with her family, who was proud that a Muslim, hijab-wearing woman was the recipient of this award.

The recent graduate says she hopes her story can inspire other young Muslim women.

“I want to let other girls know that they shouldn't be afraid to express themselves,” Shahin told HuffPost. “We live in the land of the free for this reason. Being true to yourself should always be no. 1.”

What Does Love Mean?

"The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. And that's what you've given me. That's what I'd hoped to give you forever." ―Nicholas Sparks

As a matchmaker, I've seen droves of people fall in love. Occasionally, love comes easy. You meet someone and you just know. Your heart tells you that one day you'll fall in love with them. Most of the time, it isn't exactly that easy. Sometimes, love takes time to develop. It starts as a slow feeling of like and develops into something very powerful - something that's overpowering.

When you're in love, you're overwhelmed with a feeling of gratefulness. You feel lucky, and special- very, very special. You're constantly thanking the universe for bringing you such a wonderful feeling.

Love is one of the best feelings in the world. It's something that makes you happy almost all of the time. When you have a bad day, it lifts you up. Being in love puts a constant smile on your face.

Love is a feeling of deep affection. It's an intense attachment to someone. Love draws you to that person, in ways you can't always explain.

Love is caring for someone deeply and 100 percent unconditionally. Love is being passionate about life and everything you can accomplish. Love makes you motivated. It encourages you to break down your inhibitions.

Love makes you feel safe. It gives you a feeling of security, knowing you have someone to always count on. Love gives you something to look forward to. Love makes your present and future better.

Love transforms you. It makes you believe in things you didn't think existed. Love gives you hope.

Love isn't perfect; it isn't a fairytale. Sometimes it's work. But absolutely always, it's worth it.

Looks like Balenciaga wants to stay with Sam Smith

The "I'm Not The Only One" singer announced Wednesday on Instagram that he has teamed up with the fashion house on a creative collaboration, which Balenciaga confirmed Thursday morning.

The brand, known for its sexy campaigns, teamed up with Smith on a series of black-and-white photos along with a full length video.

In a statement from the brand, creative director Alexander Wang explained in a release why the sultry singer was chosen this time around. "Sam Smith conveys a quiet elegance and a subtle sensuality that are perfect for Balenciaga. He represents both sensitivity and power -- the dualities of the Balenciaga man."

We're more used to seeing the likes of Gisele and Kate Moss star in Balenciaga's campaigns, so seeing Smith is certainly a refreshing surprise. Apparently, Smith was equally as excited. "I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd be wearing these clothes let alone modelling them. So this is a dream come true, and I hope the beginning of a lovely long relationship with Alexander and the House," he said in a release.

NYFW Men's Is Diverse, So Why Can't NYFW Women's Get It Together?

$

This week, menswear is getting its time to shine at Men's New York Fashion Week. During the exclusively male event, designers like Rag & Bone, Richard Chai and Public School show off their Spring/Summer 2016 collections.

If there's a trend worth noticing, though, it's the abundance of models of color walking the runways.

At the time of this story's publish, there have been 90 appearances by models of color since the shows started on July 13 -- and there's still a day left.

After his set that showcased at least four models of color, designer Todd Snyder told the Huffington Post, "My collections are diverse, my travel is diverse, my outlook is global. My runway is reality."

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) runs the program of NYFWM (along with the City of New York). Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA, told HuffPost about the coucil's initiatives in promoting diversity on the runway. Kolb notes, "We are very proud to see some results of our efforts at the inaugural New York Fashion: Men’s."

While talented male models of color are bucking against the conventional whiteness of fashion weeks, what about the women? New York Fashion Week, which happens twice a year in February and September, has a 20-plus year history and yet women's ready-to-wear shows still lack diversity.

For example, Jezebel reported that during the Fall/Winter 2014 season, only 21 percent of 4,621 female models were non-white. That's compared to a whopping 79 percent of white models, which only fell roughly one percent from the previous season (Spring/Summer 2014) that, according to Jezebel, had a total of 79.98 percent white models.

Looks like things aren't really getting that much better, either. The Fashion Spot compiled the numbers from the Spring 2015 shows, which took place in September last year, and found that 20.9 percent of models were of color ... and don't even get started on New York's international counterparts London, Milan and Paris.

There could be a number of reasons for the racial disparity in women's fashion. Sure, it could be a total ignorance of casting directors or it could be blatant racism all-together. But, the idea that gender plays into this is something worth noting.

Witnessing something other than whiteness on the men's runways is great -- but it's also telling that men are chosen for a wide range of physical attributes (and even that could be criticized), while women are still held up to the somewhat unattainable standard of being white and thin.

The racial range of male models at this week's shows set an overarching theme that these designers' clothing reach out to a wider audience of men, despite their race. That might be because the menswear landscape is much freer, according to fashion activist Bethann Hardison. She says it's hard to compare men's runways to women's, because "the thing with womenswear, it's a stronger business," because it makes more money, has a lot more shows and essentially, more exposure. With such a larger scale of runways, Hardison believes that fighting for diversity in that arena is "much more of a challenge," than it is in the men's court.  But, she does agree that this week's men's shows are making strides.

"I haven't been to many men's shows," Hardison says and adds, "but I've been told that the first day of casting was the most diverse casting." She continues to discuss casting directors and designers, such as Michael Bastian, as responsible thinkers in inclusion. She sings more praise of New York's men's fashion week, saying:

It’s very nice now that we have an opportunity to give men a chance [with New York Fashion Week: Men's] and to me they’re reflecting a society, reflecting culture, they’re reflecting streets -- that I’m very pleased by.

Of course, the fashion industry still has a long way to go, but that's not to say there's nothing being done about the race issue. Hardison and the Diversity Coalition penned letters last September to the CFDA calling for more models of color with a tally of the racial divide to show the evidence of an apparent disparity. Kolb mentions this collaboration, saying, "The CFDA works closely with Bethann Hardison on promoting diversity in fashion," and he adds "although there is still room for more, we reinforce the importance of diversity in fashion every season and are confident that this will show on the runways in seasons to come."

As Men's New York Fashion Week closes out in the next day or so, it's inevitable that more collections will be presented by models of color. But, as September rolls around for the women's Spring 2016 ready-to-wear shows, it'll be interesting to see if the catwalks will face the right direction towards ethnic representation. We'll see.

Fanboys (and girls), rejoice! The first image of Olivia Munn in her Psylocke human condom costume is here.

The actress, along with her "X-Men: Apocalypse" co-stars Oscar Isaac and Michael Fassbender, stars on the latest cover of Entertainment Weekly decked out in her full mutant ensemble. And as she told Conan O'Brien last weekend, the costume is pretty much an exact replica of the character's in the actual comics

Entertainment Weekly shared the image on Thursday morning (along with some exclusive on-set snaps). Check it out for yourself:

Munn, who recently showed off some impressive sword wielding skills with boyfriend Aaron Rodgers, also got some purple hair streaks for her role.

And can we just take a moment to discuss how much more badass Magneto's costume has gotten. It's come a long way since 2000. Then, of course, we have to talk about Apocalypse. That is a serious costume. We can't wait to see it in action.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to be released May 27, 2016.

An Ode To The Friendships Of 'Clueless,' 20 Years Later

$
0
0

Cher and Dionne are friends because they both know what it's like for people to be jealous of them. Tai has never had straight friends before -- until she finds the perfect duo to blow off seventh and eighth with.

Twenty years ago this week, Amy Hecklering's "Clueless," an adaptation of Jane Austen's 1815 novel Emma, was released. The film has become iconic, setting the pace for teen rom-coms that followed. But unlike its successors -- "Cruel Intentions," "She's All That," "Mean Girls," even "A Cinderella Story" -- the plot of "Clueless" does not focus on evil, popular girls tearing each other down in order to get the guy.

Instead, the movie centers around rich, complicated, funny female friendships. Cher, Dionne and Tai are rollin' with the (female) homies.

In "Clueless," certain '90s teen movie tropes persist, but in a way that feels smart, as if the characters are in on the jokes. Cher is a valley girl -- she considers the mall a sanctuary, and feels accomplished when she breaks in her purple clogs. When Cher meets Tai, a makeover montage is in order. The previously frumpy, unsophisticated new girl, (who could be a farmer in those clothes), is given a new wardrobe, exercise routine and vocabulary. It's superficial, sure, but ultimately plays into the movie's feminist undertones, and those shouldn't be dismissed.

As Laura Cohen wrote in a 2014 article for Marie Claire, "To value hair, makeup, and clothing isn't disempowering, but actually very third wave -- they own their interests and don't feel shame for expressing that."

But Really Important Alaia dress aside, the movie is centered around Cher finding herself -- becoming un-clueless, if you will -- through her friendships. At their core, what defines these characters is their relationships to other women.

Cher initially sees Tai as a project, a doll to care for as her own, but her intentions are framed as misguided, not malicious. As someone (one month) older, Cher gives Tai advice about everything from how to look cool at a party to how often it's acceptable to smoke a doobie (sporadically). She genuinely wants to help Tai succeed in her world, regardless of who Elton's father is.

The dynamics of the girls' friendships ring true to real teenage life, even 20 years later. There's jealously and sometimes way harsh insults, but teen girls spend more time bonding with friends than plotting to bring each other down.

The conclusion of "Clueless," too, feels different than teen movies that followed. For Cher, the key to fulfillment isn't a man. Love complements her self-discovery instead of creating it. In "She's All That," for example, Laney Boggs finds meaning in her life only after she's swept away and accepted by the popular guy. In "10 Things I Hate About You," Kat Stratford only warms up to her sister after Patrick figures out how to tame the shrew.

Cher, like Emma Woodhouse before her, does fall in love -- but she is only able to do so after her friendships are in order and she's given her skis to the Pismo Beach disaster relief.

In a Dissolve article comparing "Clueless" to Emma, writer Tasha Robinson explains how Cher and Emma are largely products of their habitats, navigating realities they face in those environments. "Where Austen satirizes the stiff and meaningless forms of her society, Heckerling snickers at teenagers’ self-absorption, self-righteousness, and cluelessness," writes Robinson. "But both creators are still kind to their creations: Their trials are small, their comeuppances are minor, and they both end in happy places. They’re foolish, but they aren’t wicked -- they’re just doing silly things in impudent ways."

Things that might be points of contention in other movies -- like the girls' sexual experiences -- are only casual conversation points in "Clueless." Cher is a virgin who can't drive, but her challenged hymen is not fetishized or condemned, or even crucial to the plot. Tai has had sex in a pool, and has encountered at least one crooked you-know-what, but she isn't slut shamed. Dionne is technically a virgin (you know what she means), and that's cool too.

Acceptance and celebration of each other's choices -- who to date, who to bone, which immigration laws to support (if the government could just rearrange some stuff in the kitchen...) -- are key to healthy relationships. And that's ultimately what "Clueless" illustrates better than the many teen movies that came after it.

Cher, Dionne and Tai allow each other to determine their own paths. It's like Hamlet said, "To thine own self be true." (Or, shit, was it that Polonius guy?)

6 Ways To Add Blueberries To Your Beauty Routine (Besides Eating Them)

While perusing the produce at our local farmer's market, our mouths start watering the very second we see baskets of blueberries. We love making fruit salads and smoothies with this delicious fruit, especially since we learned that it works wonders for our skin and hair.

According to board-certified dermatologist and psychiatrist Dr. Amy Wechsler, blueberries contain antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and vitamins A, B, C and E. These nutrients can improve skin hydration, protect against free radicals that contribute to signs of aging and help increase circulation, which leads to a radiant glow.

The vitamin B complex in blueberries also helps with hair growth, says Tabasum Mir, a skincare physician in cosmetic dermatology and cosmetic laser surgery. She explains, "Think about when you're trying to grow hair ... most people take folate and vitamin B. It helps with maintaining healthy hair, skin and nails." Mir adds that topical application of blueberry allows it to goes directly into the skin.

Just don't be easily fooled by beauty products that claim to be made with blueberries. "You really need to look at the ingredients," says Mir. "If it looks like a recipe book and blueberry is listed at the end, it's probably very little of it there."

Since July is National Blueberry Month, we've rounded up six beauty-boosting products that are loaded with this super fruit.

It's Official: A Selena Quintanilla MAC Cosmetic Line Is Coming In 2016

Thousands of Selena Quintanilla fans’ hearts exploded as news of a MAC cosmetic line inspired by the slain Tejano singer broke on Thursday morning.

The cosmetic's company delivered the news to fans via their social media accounts, including Twitter and Instagram.

The company's decision comes nearly six months after fans first began to rally online for a MAC collection inspired by the late singer. Las Vegas-based make-up artist and Selena fan José Antonio Figueroa was the catalyst to the movement after he photoshopped an image of Selena on a MAC liptick and posted the photo on Instagram in January.

The image included the hashtag  #SelenaQuintanillaForMAC and quickly went viral.

Patty Rodriguez, a producer for “On Air With Ryan Seacrest," then started a formal petition on Change.org to make a full collection a reality. Rodriguez initially hoped to recieve 5,000 signatures in support of a limited-edition collection in the singer's name. By the time MAC announced the line on Thursday morning, the petition had accrued nearly 38,000 signatures.

MAC originally responded to the petition in April, bringing hope to many with a statement acknowledging the “enthusiasm” of Selena fans and assuring them that all their feedback would be taken into consideration as new collaborations are planned.

The company came through Thursday morning.

“The talent and beauty, both physical and internal, of Selena has caused a significant and colorful impact on the world that has continued to grow during the last two decades,” James Gager, Creative Director for MAC James Gager, told People en Español. “We have paid attention to the passion and enthusiasm of her fans and whole heartedly recognize that her legacy personifies MAC’s philosophy.”

Gager also told People that the collection will debut in the second half of 2016.

Rumors that the company had reached out the Quintanilla's sister, Suzette, to collaborate on the collection were also confirmed on Thursday. The singer's sibling and bandmate spoke to People en Español exclusively on the collection.

"Helping create this collection takes me back to those late night chats on our tour bus, when [Selena] use to talk about some day having her own make up line," Suzette said as part of her statement to the website.

This Body-Positive Campaign Is Empowering Women To #DropTheTowel

A new campaign is reminding women to show off their beautiful beach bodies and #DropTheTowel.

Created by Wear Your Voice Magazine, the #DropTheTowel campaign features women of all shapes, sizes and colors to remind women that every body is beautiful and should never be hidden.

"This is a movement for all shapes, sizes, colors, disabilities and genders to proudly proclaim that they are done hiding their already beautiful summer body -- and are ready to lose that cover-up and drop the towel," Monica Cadena, senior editor for Wear Your Voice magazine, told The Huffington Post.

The campaign features images of ten women quite literally throwing their towels in the air to reveal their beautiful bikini bodies underneath.

Founder and Editor-in-chief of Wear Your Voice, Ravneet Vohra told The Huffington Post that the campaign is trying to inspire freedom of body expression by "shaking up the classic definition of what we have been lead to believe is the perfect beach-ready bikini-clad body." By depicting more realistic body types than those seen in magazines, advertisements and pop-culture, Vohra hopes the campaign will "inspire and evoke a deeper thought about what a perfect body is."

"I think we as a society have to ask ourselves this -- What exactly is a 'bikini body' and what are we doing to perpetuate the crisis we face around the false imagery we and our younger generation are subjected to," Vohra said. "Is there room for change and growth as a society? Yes there is!"

The images show each woman comfortable in her own skin and happily stripping off her beach towel. The campaign is just further proof that to have a beautiful bikini body all you need is a bikini and a body

Take a look at the gorgeous bikini bodies below:

Queen Elizabeth, renowned lover of corgis, has at long last decided to stop breeding her favorite little dogs. According to a Vanity Fair interview with Monty Roberts, an advisor to the Queen, Her Majesty stopped around 2012.

"But she didn’t want to have any more young dogs. She didn’t want to leave any young dog behind. She wanted to put an end to it," said Roberts in the interview.

The Queen currently has two little corgis, named Holly and Willow. It's rumored that her obsession with the dogs began in the 1930s, with her family's dog named Dookie. Click here to see more photos of the Queen with her corgis and scroll through photos below of your favorite Royals with various, adorable doggies.

This week's best-dressed list might be one of our favorites this year.

Not only did one actress make the list THREE different times (major shout out to Gabrielle Union), but Caitlyn Jenner wowed in one of her most elegant looks to date and "Revenge" actress Ashley Madekwe stole the show in a culotte-crop-top combo for the ages.

Check out our favorite looks of the week and let us know if you agree with our picks.

Meet Aiden, the 4-year-old who just stole our hearts.

The New York native has been tearing up the scene for some time now. He is already a model, repped by Zuri Model and Talent, and has been featured in Gap ads -- and he also has one of the most adorable Instagram accounts we have ever seen. The feed, run by his mother, boasts over 139k followers, and shows the tot in bow ties, leather jackets and fedoras.

Of course, no discussion of Aiden would be complete without mentioning his signature curls. According to his mama, his hair "is a lot of work" to maintain. In terms of his hair care regimen, she swears by "Dove, Carol's Daughter and Miss Jessie's products." Whatever she's doing, it's working, because we have serious hair envy over here.

Check out a few cute photos of our latest pint-sized style crush and tell us you haven't already started following him.
