Mila Kunis Ditches The Makeup For Gemfields Campaign

$

0
We all know that Mila Kunis is stunning. She landed on nearly every "Sexiest Woman Alive" list in 2013 and is constantly turning heads on the red carpet. Her latest role, however, is highlighting her beauty in a more... natural way.

Kunis goes makeup-free in Gemfields 2014 campaign titled "Beauty By Nature," alongside their responsibly sourced emeralds. In an effort to distinguish themselves as suppliers of gemstones and not retailers, the 30-year-old actress has also been photographed without wearing actual jewelry. Not like she really needs the enhancements, but a strong message nonetheless.

Of course, posing without the usual glam can be nerve-wracking, even if you are Mila Kunis. She credits working with German photographer and filmmaker Peter Linderbergh on her ability to get comfortable. "I didn't have any make-up on; I didn't have my hair blow-dried -- so I felt a little bare. But he made me feel the most beautiful I have ever felt, and he was able to capture a very honest moment," she said in a release.

We couldn't agree more. Check out a photo from the campaign below and head over to the Gemfields' website for more info.

New York Named World's Most Fashionable City

London, home to style icons Kate Middleton and Kate Moss, the time has come for you to abdicate the throne as premiere fashion ruler of the world and welcome your successor: New York, the new fashion capital.

A new study from Texas-based Global Language Monitor used narrative tracking technology for their fashion capital assessment, which was released Feb. 4. The data research company mined over 250,000 online media posts and tracked the frequency of fashion buzzwords being linked to a specific city.

This year, New York beat out London, the previous winner for 2011 and 2012, as the Top Global Fashion Capital. There were some other major shifts in the global survey, including Los Angeles moving five spots from 2012 to make it into the big four. This year also marked the closest race with Paris coming in second place by just a 0.5 percent margin.

Scroll through the gallery below and see if your city made the world's most fashionable list. See all the rankings here.

What Really Happens At A Fashion Week Model Casting

$

Over the course of two days, about 300 to 400 models walked through the doors of the BCBG showroom to try and get cast in the BCBGMAXAZRIA and the Hervé Léger‎ runway shows.

Picture this: 5-foot-forever models filing in and out of a bright white space, almost exclusively dressed in black clothing, waiting (sometimes for a couple of hours) for their 30 seconds with the casting directors. Once they arrive, they check in, take a seat and promptly change out of their flat shoes and into their sky-high heels (not a single model showed up in stilettos).

The Casting Directors

The models were then called in groups of five to line up and wait to go into the casting room. Two of the most sought after casting directors in the industry, Maida Gregori-Boina and Rami Fernandes, sat at the head of the table and watched as the models walked back and forth as if strutting down a runway, occasionally stopping models who piqued their interest to take photos.

So, what are casting directors looking for when they are selecting a mere 30-40 girls out of the 400 that stop by? "She needs to have a nice body, a nice neck and good ankles," Gregori-Boina told us. "I look for a girl who looks smart, who looks interested in what we are doing and has personality." This "personality" can be gauged by the subtle expressions in models' eyes, rather than blank stares, Gregori-Boina noted.

The Models

Though the casting directors have a tough job, choosing only a few models when hundreds of beautiful ones walk through the door, the models are also in the hot seat. We chatted with a few of the beautiful faces at the casting to find out how they prepare for Fashion Week and how they get that model glow.

Herieth Paul

bcbgpaul
On how many castings she goes to during NYFW: "During fashion week you go on, it depends. Sometimes it's like 15 a day, sometimes it's like five a day. It depends on how many people want to see you in that day. So on a normal day it's eight on average"

Valery Kaufman

valery
On what it's like getting started as a model: "It was madness for my first seasons. But now that I know everybody, I'm doing really specific castings with people who want to see me again, so it's become easier but busier."

On her go-to beauty product during Fashion Week: "I really love Christian Dior lip balm and Givenchy mascara."

Zen Sevastyanova

bcbg
On how she prepares for a casting: "I do a little bit of stretching, you have a glass of water with lemon to clear out your system. You have a hot shower, you put a serum in your hair, you put on a good moisturizer, you put on a good primer and you put on a little bit of concealer and a little bit of blush. You don't want to put on too much makeup. You brush your eyebrows. You do a little face yoga to stretch your muscles and wake you up. And you have breakfast and you walk out the door. Maybe have a little green tea."

On what she wears to castings: "I try to avoid wearing all black because it tends to be what everyone goes to. Even though you have to showcase your body and not be very loud, your style cannot distract the client from your beauty or your appearance, I think it's important to show your personality or else it ends up being a sea of people just dressed in black."

Steffi

bcbgholland
On her favorite part about being a model: "Every day is different. But that's also the hardest part about it. It's nice but it's also really worth it."

On whether she prefers New York fashion week or the shows in Europe: "Paris is my favorite. Or maybe I like New York because everyone has a lot of energy."

5 Things You Should Never Wear in the Caribbean

$
0
0
It's the night before your Caribbean vacation and you're packed and ready to roll. But wait! Before you close that carry-on, make sure your luggage isn't harboring one of these fashion criminals.

1.Sandals and socks
I truly thought that the fashion travesty of sandals worn with mid-calf and knee-high socks was a thing of the past -- or at least reserved only for middle-aged British men. Turns out I was wrong because I saw this "look" alive and well on a couple of would-be hipsters during a trip to Montego Bay last month. But trust me, travelers: Even when worn "ironically," sandals and socks are NEVER cool.

2. Beaded Braids
First, let's be clear: I'm not talking one or two plaits or cornrows or an Olsen-twin milkmaid updo. The fashion offense in question here is the head full of braids, each punctuated with a plastic bead or colorful elastic band. I know you don't want to offend the nice rotund lady at the cruise port who's offering braids for a dollar a pop. I know you think it'll be a "fun, island look" for your Caribbean vacay. I know you're thinking, "Well, they were cute on Bo Derek... " But here's the truth: She won't be offended (they're plenty more suckers on the gangplank behind you). Except for the odd unfortunate child, NO ONE in the Caribbean is walking around with a heavily beaded 'do. And no, they were never cute on Bo.

3. Bum bags
Every so often, fashion decision-makers try to convince us that the bum bag/fanny pack is a good idea. Even now, Tory Burch et al are touting "belt bags" as a cool way to tote your stuff for Spring 2014. With the plethora of cross-body bags and wristlets out there, do you really need to make your waist or hips look bigger in the name of hands-free haulage? I think not.

4. Obvious sunscreen
It's great that travelers are heeding dermatologists' advice and slicking on the sunscreen. But for the love of God, please don't be sloppy about it. If I had a dollar for every tourist if I've spotted with white streaks of sun cream caked in their hairline, on their ears, between their fingers and on their forearms, I'd be kicking back on a private island right now instead of writing for a living. Rub it in, folks; rub it in.

5. Novelty Hats
This brings me to one of my peeviest of pet peeves: the knitted cap with the faux dreadlocks attached. I've said it once and I'll say it again -- NO! These caps are un-cool, un-funny and unconscionable. Same goes for those gargantuan sombreros they sell in Mexico, and that green banana leaf topper the beach vendor is trying to convince you to buy (it'll be dry and brown in a week, trust me). If you need sun-coverage, do it in style with a Panama, fedora or jauntily tied headscarf, I beg you.

Rob Kardashian Talks Hair Loss, Reveals He Doesn't Believe In Divorce For HuffPost's #nofilter

These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous "insiders." After a while, it's easy to forget that stars are real people. That's why HuffPost Celebrity decided to launch the all-new #nofilter, a quick-fire question-and-answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they've shared their guiltiest pleasures?

Rob Kardashian has been an open book when it comes to talking about the 40 pounds he gained after splitting with girlfriend Rita Ora last year, and just as open about his efforts to take the weight off.

The 26-year-old reality star and sock designer is all about personal improvement these days, which means trying to better himself from head to toe. While promoting the hair growth program Viviscal, Kardashian chatted with HuffPost Celebrity about his quest for self-improvement and took a chance to brave the #nofilter challenge.

What's your guiltiest pleasure?
Probably playing “Call Of Duty” some nights to the point where I don't even go to sleep. I just keep going to the next day and then I shower and go to work. That’s pretty much my guilty pleasure, when my girlfriend wakes up to go to work, and I’m sitting there still playing “Call Of Duty.”

What's the silliest thing you've ever lied about?
I honestly don’t know. I think I lie way too much to even know what I’ve lied about. Probably that I tell my mom that I have a hidden child. That’s probably the silliest thing I’ve ever lied about.

What happens in your recurring dream?
Honestly, I don’t remember the last time I had a dream. I don’t really sleep often enough to be able to have any dreams. I’m not really a fan of sleep to be honest with you. I work out at 9:30 or 10 o’clock at night and sometimes I just keep going. I’ve never been a big sleeper. Me and all my buddies we don’t really ever sleep that much. We’re not partying either, we just don’t sleep. We’d rather work on other things or do other things.

Here's a hot button question: Is it okay to recline your seat on an airplane?
I’m actually very big on that, I actually don’t recline. I’m always thinking about the person behind me. But I feel like if you paid for a first class seat then it’s different because there’s way more room. Whenever I sit in coach I will never recline my seat, unless I’m in a situation where there is no one behind me.

What or who is overrated right now?
I think Willy Wonka is really overrated, in my opinion. 100 percent, actually. He’s really overrated.

Is a good friend hard to come by?
Not at all if you just surround yourself with good people who are loyal to you since day one. I mean I have only a couple friends but I’ve known them since, like, you know, fourth grade or something. I’ve never changed anything about my little group of friends. I think if you're just smart and you have the friends who care about you most, that’s really all that matters.

What are you most afraid of?
Probably picking a proper wife and not just rushing something. Actually, I’m probably not afraid of that because I probably just won’t get married. But probably like finding the right one, because I don’t really believe in divorce, so just finding the right girl.

When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m going on a little ten mile run and I finish, or when I’m on the run -- that's probably when I’m at peace. Like just running by yourself up in the hills and through the trails and stuff like that on a nice rainy or sunny day, it doesn’t really matter.

What's the most unusual thing you have in your wallet?
I literally didn’t even carry a wallet until a couple days ago. I just have all my credit cards, I don’t have anything. I would just carry a bunch of cards and put them in my pocket. I don’t know why, I know I’m just asking to lose my credit cards. I just started using a passport holder for my cards, but I usually just have them all in my pocket all free.

What technology do you hope will be invented in the next 10 years?
This is easy for me. I want there to be a video game where you are literally … lets say I eat a sandwich or brush my teeth or something like that, I want the video game to be able to do the same exact thing. It’s like a first-person game that projects itself into my room that the video game is in. So the whole room is pretty much the game, it's not like on a TV. It just projects into your room and then whatever actions you’re doing the video game mimics that, so you have to be cautious … It’s crazy though, it’s going to happen.

Rob Kardashian is currently a spokesperson for the hair growth program Viviscal and opened up about his hair loss, saying the product has helped with his "on-going insecurities" while he's trying to work out and shed the pounds.

"My family is obviously in the media and I have a bunch of beautiful sisters who are always dolled up, and I'm obviously dealing with losing weight. So [taking Viviscal has been a big help with my insecurities right now, as part of my on-going transformation and helping my confidence," he said.

Counterfeit Cashmere Clothes Containing Rat Fur Exposed

If it looks like cashmere, and it feels like cashmere, it's probably cashmere. Then again, it could also be rat fur.

This disturbing news surfaced after police in Italy seized more than a million counterfeit clothes Monday, marking the end of a year-long investigation into five Chinese-run firms in Rome. The Italian news agency ANSA reports cashmere coats manufactured and distributed by the companies were actually determined to be comprised of "a mixture of acrylic, viscose and fur from rats and other animals."

After they were manufactured in Rome, the items were distributed by a company near Florence, reports UPI. Fourteen Chinese-born people may face fraud charges as a result.

The BBC adds police also seized knockoff merino wool, silk and pashmina garments, presumably also made via similarly dubious manufacturing processes.

Aww, rats!

6 Things You Should Know About Your Clothes

$
0
0

Last week, I received this comment on one of my posts:

"I want to know more about what you know. I'm such a mindful consumer when it comes to food but have never thought about how my purchasing decisions with clothes, etc could be negatively impacting the change I so emotionally pursue."

It inspired me to go back to the basics, realizing again how new the sustainable fashion movement is to most consumers. For those of you wondering why you should care about what's in your closet, here are the big six:

1.) There are chemicals on your clothes. And they're often carcinogenic. (Carcinogenic = cancer-causing). While the slow food movement is starting to catch on and consumers are becoming increasingly more conscious of what they eat, we don't yet think of clothing in the same way.

Most of us haven't caught on that the pesticides, insecticides, formaldehyde and flame-retardants on our clothes are also damaging to our health. Skin is our body's largest organ and it instinctively absorbs whatever we put on it -- clothing chemicals included.

(Next time you're browsing through the racks at your favorite big box retailer, rub your finger tips together. You'll notice a grimy film that has transferred off the clothing and onto you.)

2.) There are 27 to 30 million slaves in the world today. Yes, slaves.

Have you ever wondered how companies like Zara and Forever 21 can sell t-shirts for five dollars?

There are people in countries such as Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Bangladesh and India who are forced to work against their will. Whether they're picking cotton or tanning leather, they aren't being paid to make your clothing. They are literally bound to a life of enslavement with very little hope of getting out.

Factory workers who are being paid are probably who you would think of as "sweatshop" workers and are most likely earning less than a living wage -- that means they can't afford to feed or shelter themselves, let alone their families. In 2012, a Swedish broadcaster reported that workers in Cambodia were being paid so little they had to borrow money for food.

3.) Big retailers are a big problem.

Our bargain shopping, big sale seeking, cheap consumer mentality is directly related to the people making our clothing. Because we expect to be able to buy a shirt for less than 20 bucks, retailers are forced to find ways to lower costs and compete in a highly-saturated market. This usually requires cutting corners in manufacturing overseas.

In November, H&M made a public statement saying it plans to deliver a "living wage" to more than 850,000 textile workers by 2018. While it sounds like a noble gesture, it raises the question of why the giant retailer wasn't paying its workers fairly in the first place. In the past, H&M has been accused of promoting poverty pay, unsafe working environments and malnutrition.

H&M is not alone -- Forever 21, Inditex (the parent company of Zara), GAP, JC Penney, and many more, are major players in human rights and labor issues around the world.

4.) Our old clothes (and disposable behavior) are ruining Africa's economy.

Ready to drop off a big pile of donations at your local Goodwill? While the reselling of second-hand clothes is ethically sound, it's the massive amounts of donations that cause a problem. Goodwill, Salvation Army, and the like, receive more clothing donations than they could ever resell. So what happens to the excess?

According to an op-ed in The Business of Fashion, "The majority of donated clothing is sold to second-hand clothing merchants, who sort garments, then bundle them in bales for resale, usually outside the country in which the clothing was originally donated."

In Sub-Saharan Africa, where one-third of all globally donated clothes are sold, the used clothing business is undermining Africa's own textiles and manufacturing industry. Even more, "dumping" our unwanted clothing into countries on the other side of the world gives us an unrealistic sense of security that we can continue to consume and throw away at unsustainable rates.

5.) It takes decades for your clothing to decompose in a landfill.

The fast fashion industry has turned four regular seasons into 52 "microseasons" to push new trends and encourage rapid consumption. Retailers make it easy for shoppers to buy a cheap dress, wear it once, and never wear it again. We don't think about where those clothes go after we're done with them.

The average American throws away 68 pounds of clothing per year. Nylon, rayon, polyester and other synthetic materials are essentially plastics that will most likely be around for far longer than you will. At the rate consumer waste is piling up, it doesn't look good for the future of the planet.

6.) It's not helpless.

Consumers have the purchasing power. We all have the ability to change the industry by choosing which companies deserve our dollars. It comes down to educating yourself and adjusting your lifestyle in a way that doesn't require excessive consumption of disposable clothing.

Education can be as simple as following a few ethical fashion blogs on Facebook. You'll learn something throughout the day just from reading the headlines. (A few of my favorites are: Ecouterre, EcoSalon & Ethical Fashion Forum.)

What more can you do? I'll follow up with a solution-and-action-based post next week. (Hint: it doesn't require buying expensive, organic cotton. In fact, you'll probably save money.)

10 Things You Should Have In Your Home By The Time You Are 30 (PHOTOS)

$
0
0
Whether it's a rented apartment or your first house, our homes speak volumes about us. The front door swings open and the world is able to instantly assess: Does a grownup live here? Here are the top 10 things we think your abode should contain by the time you are 30.

1) A real couch.
couch home decor
Not an uncomfortable futon, not a misshapen hand-me-down and definitely not a pile of giant pillows. A couch is the hub of your social life, where friends gather to talk and hangout. It's where you spend most of your alone time when you are awake. Buying a real couch is an investment and one that shouldn't be rushed into lightly. Couches need to be tested for nap-ability, should be stain-resistant, and of course must fit the space. Couches shouldn't dominate but need to reflect personality -- yours. So are you a leather person or slipcovers with a matching ottoman? We happen to like thrift stores for a lot of things, but prefer our couches new. Yeah, the old bed bug thing. Plus every red wine stain has a story and we prefer the story to be ours.

2) Your Grandma's china.
stack of plates
Sure it has dainty little flowers on it, and you'd never in a million years have picked it out on your own to buy. But it's time to just hush up and take it before your sister stakes her claim. Grandma's china will grow on you. You will come to cherish it and the family connections it represents. You will value it and pass it along to your children and hopefully they will pass it along to theirs. Just package it up carefully, stash it away and reopen it in a decade. (You may delay thanking us for this advice until then.) The more enlightened among you will, of course, gush with gratitude that you were given such an incredible gift and use it regularly.

3) Both a Crock-Pot and a Dutch oven.
crock pot
Crock-Pots are great for working people. You toss in the ingredients, plug it in and go off to work for the next 12 hours. Voila! You come home to a hot dinner that isn't take-out. Dutch ovens are what you live by when you have time to do actual cooking. And spring for the real ones, not the cheap rip-offs. After all, you are 30 now.

4) Everyday dishes that aren't plastic.
dish cupboard
Paper plates were what you used in college. Then you graduated to the plastic ones. Friends, it's time.

5) Unless you have kids or pets, then plastic dishes.
dog in the kitchen
Nobody in their right mind gets ceramic dishes and bowls when there are slippery hands or paws in the household. And the high-end plastic ones are not only durable, they are great-looking.

6) Candles that you actually burn.
candles home
Candles, for years, have been your go-to decorating tchotchke, right? And even when they got covered with dust you didn't burn them. Time to burn, baby, burn. The thing about candles is you can replace them with other (undusty) candles. Candles are cheap. Enjoy them.

7) A washer-dryer.
washer dryer
OK, we know this isn't always possible. But even an apartment-sized stack washer-dryer set is better than no washer-dryer. Going to the laundromat is a time suck, not to mention a money suck. The joyous convenience of being able to throw in a load of laundry while you cook dinner cannot be overstated. And 30-year-olds shouldn't be bringing it home to Mom any more.

8) Fresh flowers.
dish cupboard
Buying yourself fresh flowers is an affirmation. (Especially in the dead of winter when, in many parts of the country, is an unending tundra of desolation.) Plus, friends always assume someone brought them to you and will never believe that your secret admirer is you.

9) Matching wine glasses.
wine glasses set
It used to be that the only time someone had actual matching wine glasses was for about a week after their wedding. Then one would break. Now, we don't need to wait until our nuptials to just get a set. Matching wine glasses are a definite sign of growing up.

10) Matching towels.
chic bathroom towels
See matching wine glasses: same principle. The thing about towels is that we only tend to replace them when we move. A new color scheme requires a couple of new towels. So by the time you are 30, chances are you have two tan towels, two brown towels, two towels in four shades of green -- none of them match and all of them have some life left in them. Just drop them off at a thrift store* on your way to Target, HomeGoods or wherever you find linen bliss.

*Editor's Note: Many animal shelters are also in need of (clean) old towels, blankets and linens.

Another sign of an "adult" home? Cleanliness. Here's how to get back on track.

Is Rihanna Vogue's March 2014 Cover Girl? Sure Looks Like It

We're going to go ahead and guess this photo of Rihanna on the March 2014 cover of Vogue is real. No one has come out and confirmed it (Ms. Wintour is probably too busy running around at New York Fashion Week to make a comment), but we're having a hard time believing that someone would play with our heart strings like this over a fake photo. Also, she just looks so beautiful that even if it's not true, we're going to pretend that it is.

The photo in question came from a Rihanna fan Instagram page Thursday morning, and it looks pretty legit. Riri looks more natural and high fashion than we have ever seen her. Could her new gig as the face of Balmain's Spring 2014 ads have something to do with the dressier look? Whatever it is, it's working.

The pop star already has two Vogue covers under her belt -- one from April 2011 and another from November 2012. How do you think this cover ( if this is, in fact, it) compares? We'll have to wait until March Vogue hits newsstands to find out for sure, but if you can't wait for your Rihanna fix, you can always check out her past two covers below.

November 2012:

Successful Underwear Kickstarter Campaigns

2013 seemed to be the Year of Kickstarter. Everyone from James Franco to the cast of Veronica Mars took to crowdsourcing sites to help fund the various projects they were working on; and, underwear brands were no exception. Websites such as Kickstarter are great platforms for new brands to gain the support they need to launch, as well as for already established brands to continue their mission. Over at The Underwear Expert, we've rounded up some of the most successful underwear Kickstarter campaigns. Check them out.

1. Garcon Model
To create their highly anticipated second collection, Canadian brand Garcon Model sought fan input on their favorite color combinations. Fans voted on various options in their three cuts, and the top twenty picks will be manufactured and sold. With an initial pledge of $10,000 Garcon Model gave their customers the opportunity to be part of the creative process and get involved with the products they'd be purchasing.

2. UFM
UFM, or Underwear For Men, is not only one of the newest brands on the market, but they've also created something we've never seen before: the conduit system. This patent-pending underwear technology has a "drawstring" strategically placed inside the underwear along the stitch line. That's right--adjustable, form-fitting underwear.

3. Speakeasy Briefs
Based in San Francisco, these boxer briefs come with a secret zipper pocket. Their innovative design allows for a number of personal items to be carried below your belt--such as phones, wallets, keys, and (with a name like that) flasks. Fashion and function at its best.

4. BR4SS
The BR4SS lifestyle is all about confidence and attitude. Founder Travis Siflinger says about the brand: "If you're trying to land a [skate] trick, pull that lady's number at the bar, or going after your dreams, you need brass balls to make that happen. And your underwear is the foundation of your entire day." We can't help but agree.

The Fashion World Has No Idea Who Bill De Blasio Is

Over the past 12 years, the most important names in New York fashion have largely enjoyed a close bond with a Michael Bloomberg-governed City Hall. It was the billionaire mayor himself who championed a litany of art initiatives throughout his three terms, even proposing $50 million in taxpayer funds to support the Culture Shed, an organization aiming to house special programs and events including Fashion Week.

But with a new mayor now in charge, The New York Times is reporting an air of uncertainty is looming over the fashion world as it looks towards its future relationship with Bill de Blasio.

“Nobody in fashion knows this guy,” Steven Kolb, the Council of Fashion Designers of America's chief executive, told the paper.

During last year's mayoral campaign, de Blasio ran on a progressive platform promising to fix income inequality in the city, positioning himself as something of an anti-Bloomberg.

Joanna Coles, editor of Cosmopolitan, said that very "tale of two cities" narrative probably won't resonate with the fashion community.

“I don’t think that felt relevant to people in fashion," Coles told the Times. "Not because everybody is dreaming of a mansion on the Upper East Side but because fashion feels broader and wider and more artistic than that.”

But many, including designer and prominent New Yorker Diane von Furstenberg, have expressed a hopeful willingness to preserve a bond with the mayor's office.

On Thursday, the mayor visited the CFDA’s Fashion Incubator, where he pledged to support the industry as an integral economic and cultural part of the city

“I loved him, loved him," Furstenberg told Politicker on Thursday. "He’s so attractive!”

After de Blasio commented that his grandmother once worked in the Garment District, von Furstenberg reportedly said with glee, "You're one of us!"

We bet everyone knows his fashionable daughter, Chiara:

This photo of a sand-dipped, teeny-bikini'd Bar Refaeli popped up on her Instagram Wednesday. "Don't worry about those talking about you behind your back, they are behind you for a reason," she wrote.

Based on the pic, we suspect that some of the conversation will not be behind her back but about her behind.

The Israeli supermodel told The Huffington Post recently that one of the places where she feels most at ease is the beach. Yep, she looks pretty comfortable.

Pharrell Williams Named 'Hat Person Of The Year' By Headwear Association

Pharrell Williams' hat -- from Vivienne Westwood's autumn/winter 1982-1983 collection -- stole the spotlight at the 2014 Grammys. Love it or hate it, the accessory definitely made a statement. The Internet treated the piece as a call to action, producing a Twitter account, a "Hatty" video and numerous comparisons to other millinery aficionados.

So devoted to the addition of a hat for (nearly) every outfit, Williams is finally getting the recognition he deserves. The Headwear Association, whose mission is to "promote hats and the headwear industry throughout the world," has named Williams the fifth annual Hat Person of the Year.

He beat out Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and several other celebrity headwear-devotees for the title, and will be honored on April 24 at the 106th annual THA Gala at New York City's Central Park Boathouse. Past winners of of the Hat Person of the Year Award include Kate Moss, Kate Middleton, Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt; how Queen Elizabeth II has not yet made it onto this list is truly a mystery.

Williams' title is well-deserved, as he is a serious connoisseur of headwear. Check out more photos depicting Williams' affinity for hats below.

Ann Yee's Fall 2014 Makeup Is All About Midnight Blue Lips (PHOTOS)

So remember that time we couldn't stop obsessing over Rihanna's island blue lips? Well, we can obsess no more -- because the blue lip color models wore at Ann Yee's Fall 2014 show is the best thing we've laid eyes on during New York Fashion Week, and it's only Day 1.

This deep, matte blueberry color (how else could we describe it?) complemented the simple, yet elegant white, black and gray palette of Yee's collection. Of course, the look was created by MAC Cosmetics senior makeup artist Fatima T with a mix of MAC Pigment in Marine Ultra, Rich Purple and Magenta.

Now, take a look for yourself. WARNING: You will swoon.

It's Amazing How Much The 'Perfect Body' Has Changed In 100 Years

A woman with a "perfect body" in 1930 would barely get a second look from Hollywood producers or model casting agents today.

Addiction and eating disorder recovery site Rehabs.com worked with digital marketing agency Fractl on a project looking at the origins of Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements, and how the bodies of ideal women have compared to national averages over time. And their findings show that models and movie stars are getting smaller than the average American woman at unprecedented rates.

Though BMI measurements don't distinguish between fat and muscle, and are thus fairly inaccurate in determining whether someone is obese or not, BMI data from the past makes for interesting comparisons. According to the Center for Disease Control, the BMI of the average American women has steadily increased over the past half a century, from 24.9 in 1960 to 26.5 in the present day.

In a similar vein, Rehabs.com found that the difference between models' weights and the weight of the average American woman has grown from 8 percent in 1975 to over 23 percent today. The bottom line? There's more of a noticeable gap between the bodies of idealized women and everyday people.

Picking up on this disparity, brands like Dove, Debenham's and H&M have made efforts to include diverse body types in their catalogs and ads. Organizations like The Representation Project are working to educate women and girls about media literacy and how to handle the sexualized images of women we see on television, billboards and the Internet. (Of course, we still have a very long way to go.)

In addition to the work of brands and organizations, looking back on the "ideal" women throughout the past century tells us just how arbitrary any vision of "the perfect body" is. Sex symbols have varied in terms of body shape, height, weight and tone, from the hourglass figure of Mae West to the waif-like Kate Moss. Though the diversity of these icons is limited -- they are all white, and none could be accurately described as plus-size -- it's gratifying to see that different body types have been construed as sexy, and likely will be again.

Here's how the "ideal body" has changed in the past 100+ years:
