Eating Seasonally Can Help Save The Planet And Your Wallet

'Tis the season to be less frozen, so let's warm up to some delicious foods that are coming in fresh this spring. According to the Cleveland Clinic, in-season produce generally has "more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants than foods harvested before they're ripe and then shipped long distances." It's not a fad, either, as this is literally how our forefathers ate, and many of the best restaurants in the world now grow their own produce, and change their menu seasonally. Even the White House kitchen has opened their own garden to supply food for most presidential meals. When you eat produce according to its seasonal availability you are doing a lot more good than just nourishing your body. In a much broader sense, you're helping to sustain human life on our planet.

Michael Pollan, who is a writer and activist, authored the book The Omnivore's Dilemma in 2006, and shed light on the major flaws that have developed in the food industry on a global scale. One of his favorite "shock sentences" is telling people that sustainable eating is actually the cheapest way to dine. He explains that many times we fail to include the total price of our food in our budgets. For example, transporting food and ingesting preservatives that help our meals travel that far will cost us more in the long run than if we just eat seasonally. Not to mention, these long hauls pollute our planet.

If you find a local farmer's market or join a co-op food share program (or if you're my mother you do both), you can affordably gain access to fresh produce that is sustainable by nature. To give you a little jumpstart, we've compiled a list of vegetables that are coming into season this spring based on your region of the country. So go support your local farmers, sustain your planet, and enjoy delicious foods -- you deserve it, and your wallet will thank you.

Experts Explain Why You Should Never Cut Your Cuticles

$

0

We freeze up every time our manicurist reaches for a pair of sharp mini clippers and ask, "Do you want to cut your cuticles?" Deep down we know that we really shouldn't, but seeing ragged hangnails along our fingertips forces us to give in to cuticle clipping just for the sake of having a picture-perfect mani. Then, we regret our irrational decision once we notice just a few days later that our cuticles are dry and peeling again.

So, what is the purpose of cuticles?

The cuticle is the nail's natural protective seal, according to Dana Stern, a board-certified dermatologist and nail specialist. It protects water, moisture and organisms from entering the nail unit. She explains, "The cuticle overlies the most important part of the nail, the nail matrix. Any trauma to the cuticle area (cutting, biting, picking) can affect the matrix and ultimately will be seen as irregularities in the nail (depressions, ridges, discoloration)."

Celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann adds, "With the skin being the largest organ of your body, the cuticles are the nail's last line of defense as a protective barrier, blocking the spread of bacteria from moving into the nail."

When bacteria enters the nail fold through the cuticles, Stern says this scenario can result in a red, tender infection called acute paronychia. The derm notes that these infections need to be drained and cultured by a physician and the patient usually needs an antibiotic.

If moisture enters the nail unit from a damaged barrier, Stern says that the skin behind the cuticle will become boggy, red and swollen and yeast will likely enter. This is known as chronic paronychia, and the nail will eventually grow out abnormally if the cuticle remains compromised.

Cutting your cuticles can lead to the spread of bacteria/infection and cause nail damage. Instead, gently push them back.

To effectively do this, Sterns recommends using a wash cloth to push back after a warm shower or soak. She cautions against cuticle removers because the protective seal is still being compromised, as these products often contain "alkaline materials and work by destroying keratin."

An effective cuticle regimen will help to prevent and treat splits.

"Properly file, buff and push back the cuticles," says Lippmann. "And then moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Use an oil, a cuticle moisturizer like the Deborah Lippmann The Cure and a hand cream."

On March 25, Stern is launching a Nail Renewal System on QVC, which includes a topical hydrating treatment in the form of a click pen that's packed with coconut, apricot and sunflower oils.

To really whip nails into shape, Lippmann advocates for doing these steps at night. She says, "Immediately lay hot towels over your hands, letting it soak in all the nutrients. And it feels amazing, too!"

Don't forget great nail care health starts from within.

One of Lippmann's best beauty tips is to constantly drink water. "Hydrating is not only great for your skin, but it also benefits your nails and cuticles," she says.

Is It Boom or Bust for the Beard Trend?

$

beard

We've all noticed that trends in facial hair come and go. Some men ignore them completely and make decisions on a whim, while others like to stay up-to-date, especially if they work in a profession where professionalism comes first and foremost. Many others are compelled to take advantage of Movember (and Decembeard) or other seasonal opportunities to grow out their facial hair.

There is little doubt that there are more and more people -- both men and women -- taking interest in this topic. Suave Grooming recently interviewed prominent style and beauty experts regarding their thoughts on facial hair. Venessa, founder of We The Classy says, "I'm a fan of men using their facial hair to show their style and I think many people are excited for this variable to be in the spotlight as of late."

Facial hair gives men the opportunity to express themselves and to "accessorize" in ways they might not be able to otherwise. It's a statement about who they are and how they want to be perceived by others.

But one question remains: Is the beard still in, or is it going out of style? Are we going back to stubble or a clean-shaven look? What is the future of facial hair?

The Rise of the Beard

Search the term "beard" in Google Trends, and you will soon discover that queries related to beards have been seeing a fairly steady climb from 2011 onwards.

An even faster growing trend is the term "beard styles", which has also been on a major growth curve. There are clearly more men looking into how to wear their beards than ever before - and looking at the pictures in the search results, there aren't too many "styles" that should scare you away.

This study also features some interesting facts and stats about beards and facial hair, such as the fact that about 33% of American males and 55% of males worldwide have some kind of facial hair. They also note that beards were once looked upon as a sign of honor and were only cut as a punishment, and both men and women agree -- beards make men look older, more respected, of a higher status, and even powerful.

There are a lot of thoughts out there about the kind of impression the beard makes -- especially on women -- but even fashion and beauty expert Brooke from KBStyled said, "With the growing trend of men's personal care products and annual events such as 'Movember', it seems that beards (and all facial hair) is here to stay."

She is absolutely right -- it is plain to see that the beard is still in full force, and it won't be going anywhere for a long time to come. It's here to stay.

Are There Any Other Options?

Is this to suggest that the beard is your only option if you want to wear facial hair? Plainly, no. There are still other relevant and trendy ways of expressing yourself.

The beard is a great option, first and foremost, if you're able to grow one, secondly, if you're able to care for it, and thirdly, if it doesn't unnecessarily limit your personal and professional opportunities. That's for you to decide.

But smart, groomed long stubble is also in style. Dannon, fashion and beauty expert from Like The Yogurt says, "Scruff is everything you want in a guy: sexy, confident, mature, carefree and mysterious." Maintenance of your beard is key and you can see this guide for the best beard trimmer.

Search the term "stubble" on Google Trends, and you will see that it is also on an upwards trend. There has been steady growth for the term from about 2007 onwards, in fact. "Beard stubble" is also a trending query, though the beard trend is still a relatively new development compared to stubble.

So, scruff is also good, as long as it is managed. Make sure to trim regularly and keep it neat.

Final Thoughts

In summary, facial hair is still a hot topic, but your choices are limited. Smart, groomed long stubble, or "scruff", is in style. Beards -- though they may cycle in and out of fashion -- are also still in style. The future of facial hair is sure to rely heavily upon on these two styles and beard trimming will be a prevalent part of that.

How will you choose to express yourself? How will you wear your facial hair, and is it well-matched to your personality and fashion choices?

The Fastest Way To Get Rid Of Deep, Painful Pimples, According To Top Derms

As far as pimples go, those deep, humungous cystic-acne ones are probably the most traumatic. Aside from how much surface area those suckers tend to cover, the pain they cause makes them impossible to ignore. Press on one, and it reverberates throughout your entire face (that's not an exaggeration). "Usually, people run to their dermatologist's office for a quick cortisone injection to dry up those monsters within hours," says Rachel Nazarian, a dermatologist with the Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City. But what if you just don't have the time (or money) to pop into your derm's office that regularly? Here are the six next-best treatments top dermatologists recommend for getting rid of those under-the-surface cysts ASAP.

Whatever you do, don't try to pop it. "The hardest thing for me to communicate with my patients is that often, around age 20, women experience a major change in their acne. No longer are the zits the juicy whiteheads that explode with a satisfying pop. By the mid-20s and 30s, acne is made of deep pockets of white blood cells, and these can't be popped. Keep your hands off these awful kinds of zits; popping only makes them worse." --Scott Dunbar, a dermatologist at Schweiger Dermatology Group

Ice it like a sprained ankle. "Applying an ice cube directly to your pimple for several seconds will constrict small blood vessels feeding the cyst and immediately decrease redness and size." --Nazarian

Try Renee Rouleau Anti-Cyst Treatment. "Since cysts form on the inner layers of the skin, they need a product that can be absorbed deep down. This Renee Rouleau product does that, and it has a lactic acid-based formula that acts as an anti-inflammatory." --Karen Hammerman, a dermatologist with Schweiger Dermatology Group

Mix this cocktail of three acne products. "The combination of these three over-the-counter products--a sulfur-containing cream (try Olay Professional Pro-X Clear Intensive Refining Sulfur Mask), a benzoyl peroxide cream (try Arithmetic Acne Control Complex), and a mild cortisone cream (try Cortizone-10)--usually proves very effective when mixed and applied two to three times a day over the cyst for seven to ten days. The cyst will start to significantly reduce in size after two to three days." --Leyda Bowes, the medical director at Bowes Aesthetics in Miami

Layer your treatments correctly. "Treat painful undergrounders with this order of medications: a hydrocortisone cream to reduce inflammation, a 2 percent salicylic acid product to dry out excess oil, and then benzoyl peroxide to kill acne-causing bacteria." --Joshua Zeichner, the director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City

Color correct the cyst away. "Use makeup with a slight green tinge to help mask redness and blend your pimple into your natural skin tone." --Nazarian

The Biggest Mistake You're Making When Removing Makeup

$
0
0

It's the end of the day, you're exhausted and you need to remove your makeup. Going to bed wearing eyeliner, mascara and foundation may not seem like a bad idea, but you ignore that silly thought and reach for a pack of cleansing face wipes.

Here's where things could go terribly wrong.

Makeup remover wipes are a quick and easy way to remove makeup, according to Joyce Park, a dermatology resident at New York University Medical Center. However, improper usage can result in more clogged pores and breakouts.

"The biggest mistake is improperly removing makeup, meaning leaving residue on the face and smeared into pores," says Park. "The ingredients in makeup can be inflammatory and can trap dirt and oil in the skin. So it is imperative that all traces of makeup be removed before heading off to bed."

The dermatologist advises using moistened cloths with caution. Instead, think of them as a first step in the makeup removal process to help break down debris from your products. Park adds, "You need the second step of cleansing and rinsing to wash the gunk of the makeup off fully."

Arielle Panarello, a licensed aesthetician at Union Square Laser & Dermatology in Manhattan, recommends purchasing quality cleansing facial wipes, avoiding those with drying ingredients and harsh chemicals such as alcohol, fragrance and formaldehyde. "Use these cloths gently -- there is no need to aggressively rub the skin while trying to remove makeup," says Panarello. "The goal is to try and achieve balanced, radiant skin, not have it become irritated or compromised by misusing this product."

While both experts are pro-facial cleansing brushes for removing makeup, dirt and sebum deep within pores, these types of skincare tools should also be used in moderation. "Overuse can result in dryness and irritation, and if you have sensitive skin to begin with, stick with more traditional soap and water methods," says Park.

Don't rev up the Clarisonic every single day -- Panarello suggests using it 2 to 3 times a week, at most. She adds, "Keeping your cleansing brush clean is so important to the health of your skin. Make sure to keep your brush out of the bathroom, where bacteria and mold can easily grow due to the high humidity levels."

And, of course, Park notes that you should be mindful of the area of your face from which you're removing makeup. "The skin around the eyes is very thin and fragile," she says. "Scrubbing the area vigorously with a makeup wipe can damage the skin and accelerate wrinkle formation."

Do yourself (and skin) a solid by using a makeup remover that is specifically designed for the eyes. Park advises dipping a cotton ball into the cleanser and resting it on the eyelids for a few seconds to absorb the makeup remover ingredients before gently dabbing away the makeup.

This Is The Most Covered Up You'll Ever See Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez is never one to play it safe. Whenever she hits the red carpet, she opts for sparkles, cut-outs and of course, the wow factor. But when she arrived at the Daily Front Row Fashion Los Angeles Awards on Sunday night, her outfit truly shocked us.

The pop singer looked demure and understated (two words that rarely go in the same sentence as J.Lo). Unlike her celebrity friends at the party, who wore crop tops and sheer dresses, the brunette beauty shone in a white Ermanno Scervino dress with a high neckline and long hemline.

After all her years in the spotlight, it's refreshing to see Lopez in a new look. In fact, this looks like something Michelle Obama might wear. Now there's something we never thought we would say.

Little Prince George Has The Cutest Nickname For Queen Elizabeth

While the rest of us would curtsy and formally call Britain's Queen Elizabeth, "Your Majesty," little Prince George has a more informal name for her. The chubby-cheeked toddler, who turns 3 this summer, has quite the close relationship with the monarch, his mother says.

"George is only two-and-a-half and he calls her 'Gan-Gan,'" the prince's mother, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, said in an interview to celebrate the Queen's upcoming 90th birthday.

The Duchess revealed that the Queen has quite a soft spot for her great-grandson, the third in line to the throne.

"She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay and that just shows her love for her family," the Duchess said.

The interview was part of British television network ITV's upcoming documentary, "Our Queen At Ninety," which features interviews with several senior members of the Royal Family.

But George isn't the only beloved great-grandchild. The Queen was also thrilled at the birth of George's sister, Princess Charlotte, the Duchess said, and was one of the first family members to visit the newborn princess last year.

Of course, Prince George and Princess Charlotte will never have the chance to meet their paternal grandma, the late Princess Diana, but her sons believe she would have been overjoyed by becoming a grandmother.

"I hope she's looking down, you know, with tears in her eyes, being incredibly proud of what we've established, I suppose," Prince Harry said in a recent interview. "I'm sure she's longing for me to have kids so she can be a grandmother again."

The Spring Trends Everybody Will Be Wearing And How To Style Them

$

Spring is here at last. If a new season doesn't generate all kinds of excitement, the thought of warmer days ahead will. While you can absolutely update your existing wardrobe by reinventing past pieces in new ways for your outfits, there are some great new trends on the horizon to incorporate. Here's a look:

1. Ruffles

2016-03-21-1458576087-715170-ScreenShot20160321at8.53.02AM.png

The timeless ruffle really never leaves the fashion scene, but this time around it's taking more of a center stage. The trend lies in the overly dynamic, statement style intended to command attention. But, you can opt for a more pared down ruffle companion as there will be plenty of variety and options across the spectrum for this trend. For the more dynamic ruffle item, style it with something simple. The intent is for the ruffle to do the talking. But you can mix it with another statement piece -- a great example, the season's equally popular wide leg pant. Just keep an eye on volume and balance. Top, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Shopbop

2. Embroidery

2016-03-21-1458576580-8532492-ScreenShot20160321at8.52.08AM.png

The good old stitch is back in a big way this year. You'll spot it in it's traditionally bohemian and earthy vibe on pants, jackets, tops, skirts, handbags, and even footwear. But, don't automatically assume that you've got to draw out your inner hippie to work this trend. Plenty of brands are offering the trend in chic, sophisticated styles -- clean lines, simple neutrals, etc. Regardless of which vibe you opt for, styling this item is easy peasy. It literally can work with everything, though if you're doing a boho piece, skip the 70s flares to avoid an intentional look. Or go big with it. Sky's the limit on this one. Top, H&M

3. Denim Everywhere But Jeans

2016-03-21-1458576878-4663410-ScreenShot20160321at8.52.29AM.png

Denim's always cool as far as we're concerned, but it's leap into everything but jeans is one trend that anybody can get excited about this year. The classic fabric will turn up in just about anything you can imagine -- bags, shoes, dresses, tops. It'll particularly be dresses and shoes, but don't be surprised to see all the cool kids carrying denim bags this year. We even spotted it in jewelry! There's literally something for everybody with this trend. To style your denim piece, consider neutrals, but don't limit yourself there. A pretty denim dress can look sensational with those bright tone sandals you've got from past seasons. Treat handbag, footwear, and other denim accessories as if they're classics. Wear with everything. Dress, SEA, at Net-a-Porter

4. Fringe

2016-03-21-1458577387-2493852-ScreenShot20160321at8.51.39AM.png

Fringe has been climbing the style ranks for the past few years, but this season it'll hit a fever pitch. It arrived initially as a trim to leather jackets, handbags, and particularly shoes. For 2016, you'll see it in all of these items again, but also in particular edging on pants and jeans of all kinds, updating into more variations with jackets, and handbags, and evolution on the shoe. To work the fringe trend, it's also meant to be the showcase piece in the outfit. Pair it with simple, subdued classics like tees, tanks, and other basics to make your fringe item really pop. For a fresh look, consider pairing fringe shoes with other trends in season this year. It can completely work. With this item, you'll also see a lot of bohemian feel, but there are a lot of ultra sophisticated pieces in classic cuts for 2016, too. Pants, 3x1, Moda Operandi

You can see more amazing items and ideas for these trends and more in this month's edition of Condiment Magazine at www.getcondiment.com

We've Hit Peak Chrissy Teigen Pregnancy Style

Chrissy Teigen's pregnancy is the sartorial gift that keeps on giving. We've watched with awe as the mom-to-be continuously steps out in looks that put other, even equally fashionable celebs to shame.

She's worn sheer and she's worn cropped, but on Sunday, the supermodel put these trends together, wrapped up in an oversized camel blazer bow.

Letting her midriff peek out of a sheer white crop top and exposing a white, lace bra underneath, Teigen also wore a pair of ripped jeans and strappy heels.

It's not a look for the faint of heart, but then, most things she does are not for the faint of heart.

Teigen also showed off a new, shorter 'do that debuted on Instagram last week, playfully calling it the "khloe-rosie, side of chrissy khlosey."

Kendall Jenner Quashes Rumors That She Punched A Paparazzo In Paris

Kendall Jenner may not always like the paparazzi, but that doesn't mean she wants to hurt them.

The supermodel, who was accused of throwing a punch at a photographer after the Balmain after party in Paris earlier this month, has taken to her website to give us "the whole truth and nothing but the truth!"

In a blog post, the 20-year-old denied the accusation and explained that she was simply trying to move the photog's camera out of her personal space.

Jenner claimed that after a night spent dancing in the club, which left her sweaty and not wanting to pose for photos, a member of the paparazzi "took his camera and started taking pictures right below my face. It was in my personal space, like centimeters from my body."

"All I ask for is just a bubble of space to breathe, and he disrespected that," she added.

The reality TV star elaborated: "I grabbed his camera and pushed it away across my body, sort of trying to push and pull it out of his hand at the same time. Of course, that side motion with my arm is why all of the pictures look like punches were flying. They totally weren't! I just wanted him and his camera out of my face!"

When Jenner asked the photographer to delete the pics, her security guard ended up having to intervene.

"Violence is never my thing," Jenner noted, adding that even she, who spends her life in the public eye, would "love it if they gave me a break every now and then."

Inner and Outer Style

$
0
0
Having spent a great deal of my life in the style and image arena, it still intrigues me how people focus solely on design, image & the way stuff looks. When I consider my style heroes, the individuals that come to mind are my wife, a Company Director and my late grandmother. Of course, there are some famous people, whose style I admire. However, my gaze for them is but fleeting. What my late grandmother, wife and the Director have in common is there attitude and ability to transcend challenges. No matter what their circumstances, their ability to communicate effectively, their verbal articulation and personality always shines brightly (in my grandmother's case, shone brightly) irrespective of what they wear.

In my opinion, a credible Outer Style is an outcome of having an authentic Inner Style. What I mean is this -- an ability to empathize, reflect, be mindful and be highly aware of our behavior. You could be clad in an outfit by a top designer, be fit and extremely well groomed. Is that enough to say you are a person of style? I think not. If only it were. Authentic style seems to be something occupied by the few. Those who are respectful, empathetic, optimistic, well-rounded and take care of the details. By details I mean behave in a courteous manner, respond in good time to requests. Or perhaps are ready to provide assistance and do so unconditionally. Also have a decent handshake. Imagine meeting a fashion or style icon, that shakes hands like a wet fish...

What we usually remember is anything that distracted us from focusing on the individual's Outer Style. A naff handshake will do that. Our Inner Style can dictate our Outer Style, it often does. How we see ourselves is usually how others see us, or perceive us. In short, by improving our Inner Style, as if by osmosis our Outer Style becomes more defined. As far as attire is concerned - Wear your clothes, don't let them wear you. What I mean is this, so often I see men and women who are attired in highly fashionable outfits, yet seem to appear as if they're disconnected from them. It's as if they've been told to wear this style these colours because they are in, not because it suits them. This conveys an inauthentic version of the individual.

When I was in the business of style and image, I felt it was incumbent upon me to fully understand the person's taste level, values, body shape, coloring, age and personality. These aspects act as a guide, they help to complete their aesthetic jigsaw puzzle. I say jigsaw because discovering the final piece can be challenging. Does it fit properly? Does it match my existing wardrobe accurately enough? Is the picture now complete. In short, is your Outer Style a reflection of your Inner Style? Moreover, is it congruent? Of course be aware of your visual style, but ensure it feels both authentic and connected to your personality.

Before closing, I'd like to share a true story with you. In the late 80s my retail business was known to sell excellent, well designed clothes and accessories. Many clients occupied the world of entertainment. Country and Western singer, Lyle Lovett was a regular client. recently, Lyle contacted me through Twitter. He told me he still wears suits he purchased from me in the late 80s. No that's what I'd describe as having Style.

Start to become more stylish, by discovering your values, assets and personality. Is quality important? Are you familiar with the colors that flatter you? Do you know what kind of cut complements your body shape? Do you prefer natural fibers? These questions will enable you to make a better choice for you. Will also give your Inner Style an opportunity to express itself in the form of your body language, manners, reliability, excellent listening skills and ability to empathize. Remember, once our Inner Style surfaces, our Outer Style becomes more authentic.

"Fashion can be bought. Style one must possess." -- Edna Woolman Chase

A living legend, a living icon, but there is one thing Michael Jordan is lacking, and that's style. Sure he looks up to date whenever he's in basketball attire, but that's a given. It's when he wears those suits that I start to cringe. If you've ever taken a look at one of his children's Instagram you can see that daddy Jordan is still stuck in the 90's when it comes style. This isn't to hate on Michael, this is to send an alert out that we want more from the guy who can remake and release the same shoe whenever he feels and still charge $175 & up for them. Wouldn't you want to meet Michael Jordan, and say damn that man looks cool, or maybe you just care about the sport of basketball and beating his record one day "good luck" with that one. Here are several moments when Michael has definitely needed to employ a stylist, and if in fact he does have one; it's time for a new one. Let's save all the "he's a billionaire, and you aren't" talk. I know he's wealthy, you know he's wealthy, we all know.2016-03-20-1458515509-2808206-MJ2.jpg

P.s Michael will always & forever be the greatest; also Michael if you see this, you can hire me as your stylist.

Why Being Nice Doesn't Lead To Love

2016-03-19-1458423094-823468-Why_Being_Nice_Doesnt_Lead_to_Love_DatingWithGrace_NicoleDiRocco.jpg

It sounds boring, but, the man who is marriage-minded is actually looking for a truly nice woman.

Nice is the woman who epitomizes kind, thoughtful and empathetic.

She can't say she's these things. A man is extracting information from her gestures and comments.

It's how she treats others in small ways which a man observes throughout the course of his dating or relationship experience with her -- even when she's not aware she's being observed.

There's such a thing as being too nice, though. When a woman gives too much too soon or tries too hard to show a man that she's the one for him, she's actually turning him off.

Here's what I mean:

In an effort to make the relationship happen, a woman will initiate; thinking that if she doesn't do it, it won't materialize.

She starts to take charge suggesting where to go on their date or take the lead by making dinner reservations.

She's over giving, too accommodating, too generous and too giving. She tries to create an impression that she's not demanding.

Well, who wouldn't want a girlfriend like that?

Her gift giving reveals itself as baking him cookies, doing his dishes, laundry or picking up his dry cleaning. She thinks, "How can I make his life easier?"

The minute a man knows that he has a woman wrapped around his finger, he gets lazy. The woman ends up feeling resentful and depleted. Her needs are not being met.

Instead of him being drawn to all these ways about her, he subconsciously believes that she doesn't believe she's worthy. A man starts to see her as less than because he can sense when a woman is trying too hard. Her actions have an air of desperation.

A man doesn't care about a woman's thought, "Let me show him how good I can make his life." He cares about how a woman makes him feel.

In the dating process, it's about allowing a man to have a place in your life. When a woman let's go and relaxes -- it happens.

A woman inspires a man's love. She does not earn a man's love by doing things for him.

As counterintuitive as it sounds, by sitting back and doing nothing she allows the space for the man to pursue and give.

These are male traits that are hard wired in him. And, when she graciously receives his gifts like date planning and showing appreciation, she is, in fact, giving to him.

If you're nice to a fault in dating and relationships, I invite you to put yourself first in the new year and experiment with:

LESS DOING, MORE BEING.

LESS FRETTING, MORE FEELING.

LESS PLEASING, MORE BEING PLEASED.

This Is How I Hacked My SXSW Makeup to Last for 12+ Hours

Earlier this week, I returned from a Texas-sized trip to Austin for SXSW Interactive. My schedule was totally jam packed: I had six completely full days of attending panels, going to networking events, filming a selfie tour of Austin and, of course, lots of parties at night. Most days, I was out the door in the early AM, having to dress in something that would easily translate from work to play -- honestly, what I wore was the least of my worries.

sxswmakeupfeat

What was really tricky was how to have my makeup look good from 8AM until 2AM without having time to fully freshen up during the day. To get the job done, I had to hack the ish out of it, get creative and get kinda weird TBH to ensure I didn't melt in the Texas humidity. Here's how I did it, and the products that got me through SXSW from sun up to sun down.

USE BROW PRODUCTS AS EYELINER

sxswmakeuphack

Benefit Brow Zings ($32) is one of my all-time fave brow products, and it's especially great for traveling because it comes with two tiny brushes and a mini tweezer inside the compact -- boom. I happen to use the dark shade of Brow Zings, and frequently turn to the brow powder as a super long-wearing eyeliner. It's a really flattering deep brown shade that is designed to seriously stay put after it's applied, and, trust me, this product delivers. I'm not really sure what it is, but the way this powder holds onto the skin is better than most eyeliners I've used -- especially in 90 degree Texas heat!

USE NUDE EYELINER AS LIPLINER

sxswmakeuphack2

Okay, I know this one sounds bizarre, but it's one of my favorite beauty confessions EVER! If you're going to be wearing a super bold lip color for a really long period of time (12+ hours like I was at SXSW), ditch your normal lipliner for a waterproof and nude-colored eyeliner. I am a huge fan of Rimmel London Exaggerate Auto Waterproof Eye Definer ($7) in In The Nude. Not only will the eyeliner create a waxy, waterproof surface on your lips, but it will make the color payoff in your lipstick stronger. My long wearing lipstick of choice is Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick ($8), and I wore the shade Anna Nicole multiple days at SXSW -- it's the besssst.

SKIP MASCARA SMUDGES BY WEARING FALSE LASHES

sxswmakeuphack5

Makeup smudges due to hot weather and being out and about all day/night are inevitable, especially when it comes to eye makeup. I knew I would fall victim to mascara and eyeliner smudges if I wore them like I normally would (aka when I'm in San Francisco and don't have to worry about makeup-melting 90 degree weather). Not a cute look. Instead, I kept my eye makeup super light and wore false lashes instead -- that way, I didn't even have to wear mascara. I swear by Ardell Deluxe Pack Lash #110 Black ($6) because of the nifty little lash tool they come with; it makes putting on falsies 100% foolproof, I promise! False lashes + Benefit Brow Zings as eyeliner = eye makeup that is set in perfect place until you take it off, straight up.

FACE MIST IS YOUR BFF

Refreshing_Face_Mist_035-2

Whether it was the long hours or the high temps, my makeup needed a touchup by 2pm every single day I was at SXSW. In a perfect world, I would have had access to my beauty product arsenal, but I was at panels, networking events and happy hours and left with the bare minimum when it came to reviving my makeup. One product I relied on multiple times throughout every day was my DIY face mist. By mixing witch hazel, mild face toner and a drop of tea tree oil, you'll be left with a minty, refreshing mist that you can spritz any time you want to perk up your look. It's a great way to cool down and give your makeup a just-applied look even though that's definitely not the case.

The 5 Most Stylish Films of All Time, Ever*

To call menswear designer Alexander Olch a film buff would be a gross understatement. Olch, perhaps best known for his neckties, once told GQ that he doesn't own a television. "I watch everything via projector," he said.

In fact, he's so dedicated to watching things on a big screen that he just opened up his own small movie theater in New York City called The Metrograph, where he'll screen a curated roster of prestigious films like Vertigo, Enter the Dragon, and the 2015 Japanese musical Office 3D. (It also has a restaurant, two bars, a candy shop, and a bookstore.)

To celebrate the opening of the Metrograph, which you can visit starting this weekend, we asked Olch to curate his own list of very stylish movies. Here are the ones that made his list.

The 39 Steps
"I've watched this movie more than any other, my favorite on so many levels," Olch says. "It would be such a great world if all men dressed as well as Robert Donat, had to be handcuffed to Madeleine Carroll, and were on the run from mysterious secret agents. For my money, Donat is the perfect chic hero -- down to every detail -- the tie, shirt, and the greatest high turned trench coat collar in all film history."

Frantic (playing at Metrograph in April)
"Every time I fly, I hope that I get my suitcase mixed up with Emmanuelle Seigner. Seeing her chewing gum charm, leather jacket, short skirt -- set to Grace Jones' ultimate song 'Strange' -- will always define my idea of the ideal stylish woman."

F for Fake
"The strange world of Ibiza art forgery, spun by Orson Welles into his most graceful, unbelievable, and chic film. An essay on the fine art of being conned in grand style. My favorite film editing, and also favorite images of the beautiful Oja Kodar."

Zentropa (or Europa)
"This film has the coolest opening: Max Von Sydow hypnotizes you into the amazing black and white world of the last luxury train car running through post war Berlin. Lars Von Trier's dark homage to the Third Man, his most daringly stylish achievement before he turned to the hand held world of Dogme 95."

Bastards (playing at Metrograph in April)
"This dark picture of revenge, power, and sex in a Parisian world of mystery haunts me to this day, and that's because of its underlying, poignant style. Everything is so cool, so chic, and so wrong at the same time -- it's a such a sinister and magnificent film."

With Easter around the corner, it's time to think of ways to dress the kids up appropriately for family activities, but also comfortably for romping about for the annual egg hunt. Here are some fresh style takeaways to think outside of the Easter egg carton, incorporating lots of the hottest, seasonal trends that your kids will like to wear for their standout appeal and unique pairings. (My kid models adored their looks and didn't want to take them off!)

RETRO ROSE QUARTZ
2016-03-21-1458594859-2661865-DSC_0060.JPG

Proving you don't have to have matching dresses as sisters to have a complementary look, choose a common color like Pantone's color of the year Rose Quartz, here done with retro flair. Artsy tropical prints offset by military-inspired boots and a mod dress-coat set in jacquard polka dots, offer a timeless throwback to the 60s.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

Embracing spring trends like stripes and embroidery can lay the foundation for an Easter ensemble that's fresh and unexpected. Don't be afraid to pair stripes with bold colors: two statement prints can really add zing! For a girl, add fun hair accessories and hairstyling. Embroidery really elevates a plain white shirt for boys, especially when paired with cool accessories like a color-washed Fedora and poppy-orange shoes.

THE SHORTS STORY

Shorts get dressed up to make them perfectly Easter appropriate. Belted shorts topped with a vest makes for a sharp, little-man look. Don't forget the bow tie and chambray sneakers--the latter he can wear to school after the holiday. A girl's romper gets a touch of softness with a felt fedora, a fringed necklace and laced-up gladiator boots adorned with blossoms.

PICNIC PLAIDS
2016-03-21-1458595417-9786081-ScreenShot20160321at5.03.30PM.png

Bold plaids in bright colors are a harbinger of spring, here topped with a sunny-yellow cardigan (a red-carpet color trend) and an anorak for a polished finish. Playful footwear in the form of white strappy sandals and tropical slip-ons make these two ready to begin their egg roll!

GAZEBO GROUPIES
2016-03-21-1458595839-4548194-IMG_72001.JPG

For tweens, some exciting new options in suiting separates. Consider sweater blazers for boys that offer relaxed comfort and soft structure, paired with a sleek, collarless striped shirt atop pressed khakis. To complete our garden theme, florals of every kind abound from big blooms to prairie prints. Here, a botanical flower dress done in pretty pastels perfectly captures the holiday, offset by bold accessories.

Spring Beauty Tips

$

Every girl wants the perfect skin, hair and nails well, you only see it in Disney fairytales. Most of us do not have the time or the money for spas, hair salon or nail salons. With so many beauty products out there, we have no idea what is in the products that we love. Most of the ingredients we can't even pronounce, but all you need to know is what works for you and personally, I love home remedies and DIY (do it yourself). You can try some of these beauty tricks at either no cost or with a few household items.

1. For Acne

• Lemon
• Honey
• Baking soda
• Egg yolk or the whole egg

Use this home remedy once or twice a week. I'd recommend at night before going to bed.
You can also use the same ingredients plus the same method to remove dark spots and it will even out your skin tone in addition to making your skin brighter (This isn't a guarantee for every skin type.)

2. Good Facial Mask (Chemical Free)

• Avocado
• Honey
• Two percent milk
• Brown sugar

Mix all the ingredients together. Wait about five to ten minutes, then rinse your face with warm water. If you want your skin to look like Pharrell Williams, as he mentioned on AOL BUILD, drink a lot of water. If you want glowing skin get a good night's sleep, a healthy diet, and exercise. With spring approaching, don't forget to use sunscreen before heading out even if you are of a darker complexion. It's good to use sunscreen for protection.

Unlike Beyoncé we don't all wake up like this, but you can. For a good hair day, deep conditioning is the way to go. Also, our little friend's honey, Milk, Bananas, Mayonnaise, located in your fridge can be mixed together for an amazing hair day. Not all of us have the time to watch those long YouTube tutorials on what deep conditioner is the best.

• Coconut oil
• Banana
• Mayonnaise
• Honey

After mixing all the ingredients, cover your hair with a shower cap and wait fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on your hair type then wash your hair with warm water. This method works on all hair types.

Since spring is around the corner don't forget your nails. If you don't like going to the nail salon all the time you're in luck. You can do your own nails at home, this requires a little patience, the right nail polish and top coat. Since High School, people would always ask me where I get my nails done, my answer would be at home in the bathroom or wherever I felt comfortable. Just make sure you have good lighting. What do you need?

• Nail file from your local pharmacy ($2)
• Base coat ($3)
• Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat dry your nails in one minute ($6.99)
• Dual tips applicator from your local pharmacy ($2.99)

The dua tip applicator helps clean the nail polish that smudges over your finger. Just use the tip to clean the sides of your nails. You can also use the dual tip applicator to apply makeup. Voila! Now you are all set for spring and summer.
