Taylor Swift Says She Was 'Slaughtered' For Dating Famous Guys In Her Early 20s

It's safe to say that Taylor Swift and the media have some bad blood.

Before the superstar paired off with current boyfriend Calvin Harris, Swift was allegedly attached to multiple famous gentlemen in her early 20s, including Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal and John Mayer. And, in case you forgot, we wouldn't let her forget it.

For all those who've clicked through what she calls "my incredibly sexist Men–of–Taylor Swift slideshows” (guilty), it's time to repent our celebrity sins and pledge to do better. In the May issue of Vogue, Swift dismantles the skewed perception of herself as a serial dater and how that identifier put a hold on her romantic relationships.

“You know, I went out on a normal amount of dates in my early 20s, and I got absolutely slaughtered for it,” she told Vogue. “And it took a lot of hard work and altering my decision-making. I didn’t date for two and a half years. Should I have had to do that? No."

Over the course of her career, the media hasn't been the only one to take jabs at the "Shake It Off" singer. Swift's success makes her an easy target in the world of celebrity, eliciting criticism from peers, online haters and, of course, Kanye West, regarding her music, relationships and famous friends.

“I’ve had people say really hurtful things about me, and so I’ve kind of learned how to gauge it: ‘This is, like, low-to-medium-level hurtful,’" Swift explained.

“There are a lot of really easy ways to dispel rumors,” she added. “If they say you are pregnant, all you have to do is continue to not be pregnant and not have a baby. If the rumor is that you have fake friendships, all you have to do is continue to be there for each other. And when we’re all friends in 15 years and raising our kids together, maybe somebody will look back and go, ‘That was kind of ridiculous what we said about Taylor and her friends.’”

But for the time being, Swift has settled down with Harris, with the pair recently celebrating their one-year anniversary. After taking home the the award for Best Tour at the iHeartRadio Music Awards this month, she gave Harris a special shoutout, calling the Scottish DJ the "most amazing person to come home to when the spotlight went out."

“I’m just taking things as they come,” Swift told Vogue. “I’m in a magical relationship right now. And of course I want it to be ours, and low-key ... this is the one thing that’s been mine about my personal life.”

But you promised ...

Zooey Deschanel Pushes Back Against Unrealistic Expectations For Moms

When it comes to postpartum body image, Zooey Deschanel refuses to accept society's unrealistic standards.

In an interview with Redbook, the actress and mom to 8-month-old Elsie Otter expressed her concern with the belief that women should immediately "bounce back" after pregnancy.

"To expect someone to look like her pre-baby self immediately is odd," Deschanel told the magazine. "Because you just grew a human and then birthed that human -- there's a lot that needs to go back to where it was. All your organs move around, for chrissakes!"

The "New Girl" star, who gave birth to her first child with husband Jacob Pechenik in July, shared how motherhood has changed her world. "I've never really felt like an adult," she said. "But I think it's a huge accomplishment to have a child, so maybe I feel like an adult for that reason."

Having a baby also inspired Deschanel to take a step back and slow down career-wise. "I think it's good for your whole self -- your creative self, your professional self, and just your soul -- to take a little time for yourself and your family," she said. "You can spend your whole life going after things, but I think you risk missing out on some really powerful self-reflection."

Wise words from an awesome new mama.

What's with everyone and their hatred towards a man with a bag? Okay hatred may be a strong word depending on where you're from or currently live. In metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, NYC, Washington D.C, Miami, and Atlanta. The "man bag" controversy may not cause much controversy at all. Sure even in the city we have those who don't partake in the life of fashion so those people still judge. Those same people usually live in the every borough besides Manhattan "ouch" okay even some of the Uptown Manhattan folks still find themselves having an extended gander at the man with a bag.

Perhaps I should get more specific. I'm not talking about a man with a briefcase, duffel bag, or messenger bag. Those are all pretty neutral and people excuse those. I'm talking about the portfolio, toiletry and tote bags. People tense up around a man with those type of bags, they stare oh boy do they stare! I have been a victim of this notion far too much. Does the idea of masculinity lose it's meaning when a man is seen caring a bag? What exactly is the big deal? Can we all just move on with our lives? In 2016, why are people still making a big deal out of a man carrying a bag? Especially if the bag was designed for a man? I've always been a man of many bags, even back in my early stages of life I had several options when it came to backpacks/book bags whichever you prefer to call it. I can't recall if I had a ton back in elementary or middle, but in high school, and college I had an option for every look. I had about 12 bags back then and in one way or another it went with what I was wearing. Till this day post-college I still find myself investing in bags; more so portfolio bags now then anything. I've actually been on the look out for new book bag as of late; some days I just like my hands to be free. With all that being said? Can a man just enjoy his bag?

Fellas, these supermodels want to have a heart-to-heart about your jeans.

The best advice for finding the perfect pair has ALWAYS been to take a woman with you; women just know better.

They know how your jeans should fit, and where they should fit best (around your ankles, around your butt). Vogue proved this point recently by asking a bunch of the world's top female models for their opinions on men's jeans, and they make some very good points:

1. Your jeans need to be fitted.

2. Skinny, but not too skinny.

3. They need to be "nice on the bum."

4. You should keep them worn, but not overly distressed.

And most importantly, as Staz Lindes says, "Guys can wear whatever they want, that's fine. Except Crocs."

See the video above, and check out our selection of the best jeans every guy should stock his closet with below:

French illustrator and graphic designer Marie-Charlotte Yao has been drawing and doodling incessantly ever since she was a kid. Now that she's expecting a child of her own, the mom-to-be is channeling her creativity into some hilarious pregnancy illustrations.

Yao's drawings capture the highs and lows of pregnancy, from the food cravings and hormones to the small physical victories and loving moments with her husband. The artist started sketching her experiences early in her pregnancy, while commuting to work or enjoying some free time.

"I kept finding myself in some pretty unusual situations and thoughts, and I wanted to be able to remember them and share them for example with my close friends who don't have children yet," Yao told The Huffington Post. Recently, she's decided she also wants to share the illustrations with her daughter, who's due in July. ("See what Mommy went through?" she joked.)

Yao hopes that fellow pregnant women get "a little comfort" out of seeing her drawings. "You are not alone!" she said, adding, "Go, go, mommies! You are beautiful."

Keep scrolling and visit Yao's website and Tumblr to see her all-too-real depictions of pregnancy.

MARS is Retrograde - Be Careful of Your Actions: 5 DOs and 5 Dont's

2016-04-14-1460648709-4874310-Arguingmanwoman.jpeg
Most of us are familiar with the frustration of Mercury retrograde, when the world seems to go "haywire," because of miscommunications and breakdowns. Now it's time to pay attention to our "actions" because Mars will be retrograde on April 17th.

Once every 2 years the planet Mars goes retrograde, as it will from April 17 through June 29, 2016. During this time span we may want to think "twice" about initiating certain actions because the retrograde can lower our energy level and bring frustration and obstacles to our major efforts.

Of course, regardless of this unusual planetary influence, life must go on during the 11-week period of Mars retrograde. Undoubtedly, we all have to make necessary decisions, even if it isn't the optimum time. For example, if you're unemployed, you'll probably want to accept a new job anyway. When it comes to your social life, it's not the best time to enter a sexual relationship. But no one expects a person to be celibate.

However, there are important events we may be planning that are elective. In other words: we don't have to start them during Mars retrograde, because we can pick another more favorable time when planetary influences work to our advantage.

Never forget - a person can work hard and be well prepared to accomplish any task; but if their timing is wrong, they won't succeed. That's why - if possible, it's best to wait until Mars goes direct on June 30th to initiate any important action. Here's how this planet exerts an influence in our lives:

How Does the Influence of Mars Affect You?

In astrology, Mars represents the principle of independence and action. This planet's influence gives us the urge to initiate or begin something new. Unlike the energies of Mercury, which are mental, Mars is physical in its nature, and often associated with aggressive or impulsive behavior. In fact, in its most negative manifestation, which often occurs during this retrograde, martian (as in Mars) behavior can be selfish, combative and argumentative.

In one's horoscope, the planet Mars rules action, energy, drive and determination. When Mars works positively in our lives, it gives us the ability to be assertive and act with courage and conviction.

How Mars functions in our birth chart says a lot about how we stand up and assert ourselves, get noticed and get things done. Its energies can bring us power and confidence in the way we express ourselves as individuals. It also affects our ambition and our sense of competition whether at work, play or in our personal relationships. Mars also rules our desire nature and sexuality; and the kind of person we'll find sexually attractive.

What Happens When Mars Goes Retrograde?

When Mars is retrograde, one's normal energy and vitality are depleted. Therefore, if we initiate an activity at this time, we find that all the energy and momentum that began with our actions seem to stop or even reverse. We begin to have doubts or regrets about any effort that we start - to the point where we'll wish you could start all over again.

Here's a good illustration of how the Mars retrograde can affect you: Imagine drinking and partying all night and then having to run a 10-mile marathon the next morning. You start out your run with the confidence you've got the stamina you need; and that you'll be fine. But after running a few miles, you start realizing you don't have as much energy as you normally have. You're sorry you ran this race, wishing you could have done it on another day.

During the Mars retrograde, you'll operate with this same lack of energy and vitality in any enterprise you undertake. For this reason it's not the best time to start anything new, whether it's job, a relationship or even an argument. If you've already started something, the Mars retrograde is a time to slow down and reassess what you want and desire before you take further action. It may be necessary to adjust your expectations and calmly work though any frustrations that get in the way of what you want to accomplish.

If you have activities you want to engage in: STOP and re-consider them. Read these "Don'ts & DOs before you take action.

The Five DON'Ts

1. Don't Argue, Fight or Start a War - Mars rules War. During Mars retrograde it's a bad time to initiate a fight or dispute, because the aggressor usually backs off or loses. It's a horrible time to pick a fight with someone, start a war or begin a military action against another country because there isn't a strong will or desire to complete the action. If you're initiating an argument, (or invading a country) you're likely to be the loser. Since this is a Presidential election year, you can expect even more vicious battles between the candidates. Watch who starts a fight and who eventually wins it.

2. Don't Have a Surgery - Mars rules surgery and is associated with surgeons. It also rules anything made of iron, including "cutting things." If possible, avoid surgical procedures. Mars is a physical planet and during the retrograde, injuries and accidents related to carelessness (e.g. cutting) can occur more frequently. For that reason it's considered a poor time for elective surgery. It's not even a good time to find a new barber, hairstylist or any professional who works with a knife or scissors.

3. Don't Start New Activities - If you do begin a new enterprise during Mars retrograde, your efforts to produce results will meet with greater frustration than usual. Projects are likely to stall or not develop as expected. You'll find your energy level is lower than normal, making it harder to produce the success you had intended. If you've already started something, slow down and reassess your plans, adjust expectations and work through obstacles that are getting in the way of results.

It's not a favorable time to start a new business with co-workers and partners. You'll find that people will be unusually argumentative, and easily irritated when projects or activities do not run smoothly. Often the discord is so great, that even people, who normally get a long well, become angry and disruptive. The results are often poor decision-making based out of frustration, instead of patience and open dialogue.

4. Don't Begin a Law Suit or Divorce - A lawsuit or divorce can be a fierce battle. Since Mars rules wars and battles, it's not a good time for initiating a legal action. A lawsuit that's initiated has no punch, with a high likelihood that the plaintiff will back off or end up the loser. If you're trying to mediate a dispute, you're likely to find yourself in heavy disagreement and not able to find common ground with the opposing party. When you present your side of the argument, there's a lack of energy and passion in what you say that doesn't compel the mediator to your point of view. To obtain better results in a lawsuit or mediation, wait until Mars goes direct on June 29th. (Note: Often during this retrograde you'll hear about many high-profiled, celebrity separations and acrimonious divorces.)

5. Don't Buy Mechanical Things - Mars rules anything made of iron such as engines and cutting tools. This is not a reliable time to purchase an automobile or any mechanical equipment. Just in the same way that Mercury retrograde can play havoc with the operation of cars and other machinery, you'll find that computers and other equipment break down break more during Mars retrograde. In fact, if you have any mechanical equipment in need of repair, use this period to get it done quickly.

Here some specific ways that you can use the Mars retrograde to your advantage.

The Five DOs

1. Great Time to Find Out What You Want - In your birth chart, Mars rules what you want or desire. The Mars retrograde is not a great time to get what you want in the external world. But on an internal basis it's a great time to become aware of the "martian" things you want - such as a fast new car, the latest computer gadget, or even an exciting sexual experience. This doesn't mean that you should impulsively act on your desires because you may not really want these things once Mars goes direct. It's best to wait until then, to be sure you still want what you want.

2. Be Careful of Accidents and Violence - The potential for accidents or violence is especially strong during Mars retrograde because people are more likely to act out the negative energies of Mars. They tend to be more frustrated and impatient; and even worse they're likely to be careless, act rashly, or have a fit of anger or outrage. Do not take any unnecessary risks now. Put your dream of skydiving or bungee cord jumping - on hold until Mars goes direct. Be very careful of anyone in your work or personal life that has a history of violence.

3. Resolve Conflict By Compromising - The Mars retrograde period is a time when a simple disagreement can turn into a major upset. Passions can run high and so can frustration and anger. Try to find common ground with the other person instead of stubbornly pushing your own agenda.

Be assertive and diplomatic in your communication - not aggressive and humiliating. Even if others can't control their temper, remember to control yours. Heed the advice of an old Zen Master, "He who angers you, defeats you." Be willing to genuinely compromise to reach an agreement.

4. Re-assess Your Behavior and Sexual Attitudes - Since Mars rules your desire nature and sexuality, the retrograde is an excellent time to make adjustments in your behavior, actions and sexual conduct. For example, if you're prone to being aggressive when communicating with co-workers, you may not be receiving their full cooperation. This is the perfect time to take an anger management class to learn new strategies for expressing yourself without getting upset. In your love life, if you're not getting second dates, is it because the other person finds you focusing on sex too soon? Perhaps, they'd prefer you get to know each other better before becoming intimate. Consider exploring your behavior with a therapist.

5. Review Your Goals - The Mars Retrograde is an excellent time to take stock of your life and what you want to accomplish in such areas as: your relationships, career, money, health, spirituality and sexuality. What changes would make you happier and more fulfilled? Use this period to plan actions that you'll take after the retrograde ends. For example, if you're in a dead-end job, research other careers you want to explore. If you're single, find new places to meet a partner for a committed relationship. If you're in an abusive relationship make plans to break free from it.

In conclusion: what does this all mean? Use the Mars retrograde period, to slow down and reassess what you want and desire - before you take further action. Then, when Mars goes direct on June 30th go full steam ahead with your plans. By doing so you'll more assuredly reach your goal with less frustration and effort. You'll have the advantage of "good timing," that will aid your success.

Michelle Obama Gave Sasha And Malia Some Great College Advice

They say mom knows best, and when your mom is first lady Michelle Obama, that rings especially true.

Wearing a lovely Antonio Berardi dress, FLOTUS is one of Seventeen magazine's May cover stars (Meghan Trainor graces the other side). She posed alongside two of the luckiest teens ever, whose essays won them a chance chance to interview her for the issue.

Gemma Busoni and Zaniya Lewis asked the first lady a number of questions, including whether or not she ever thought she'd be first lady and how she let her haters be her motivators, so to speak.

Most notably, she shared the great advice she gave to daughters Sasha and Malia about applying to college -- timely stuff, as Sasha is set to begin her freshman year this fall.

"The one thing I’ve been telling my daughters is that I don’t want them to choose a name," she said. "I don’t want them to think, ‘Oh I should go to these top schools.’ We live in a country where there are thousands of amazing universities. So, the question is: What’s going to work for you?”

Pretty sound advice from the woman whose commitment to education and empowering young women has been a tentpole of her time in the White House.

Indian Designer Invents Spill-Proof Cup For People With Parkinson’s

Inspired by an uncle diagnosed with Parkinson’s, Indian product designer Mileha Soneji has created several simple products to help people with the condition.

Between 7 and 10 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s -- a progressive disease that attacks the nervous system and causes tremors, impaired balance and stiffness, among other symptoms.

Soneji, who comes from the city of Pune in India, watched as her uncle -- once a fun-loving and energetic figure in her life -- deteriorated in health after his diagnosis.

"He used to be the center of attention at all the family reunions, then he started to hide behind others,” Soneji told HuffPost France. “He hid from the pity he saw in people’s eyes.”

Soneji took time to interview her uncle and observed him to better appreciate the difficulties he faces on a daily basis. During one of their conversations, he confessed that he had stopped drinking tea or coffee in public out of embarrassment.

Technology isn’t always the solution.
Mileha Soneji

That’s when the designer thought up the spill-proof cup. Her invention is curved inward at the top to deflect the liquid back inside the cup in the event of a tremor. It also has a larger-than-normal handle.

“The key here is that it is not tagged as a Parkinson’s patient product. It looks like a cup that could be used by you, me, any clumsy person,” Soneji said in a TED Talk in February 2015. “And that makes it much more comforting for them to use, to blend in."

Soneji plans to have the cup ready for sale on the No Spill website in the next six or seven months. Its price could deter some, however, as it's projected to cost approximately 150 euros (about $170).

Soneji believes that empathy and imagination is key to a successful design.

"You have to imagine and create objects that meet the needs of people who are sick, who have disabilities," she told HuffPost France.

As she continued to observe her uncle, Soneji found an opportunity for yet another invention that would improve the quality of life of Parkinson's patients.

She noticed that he found it easier to walk up or down the staircase in his home than on flat ground.

"So this person who could not walk on flat landwas suddenly a pro at climbing stairs," she said in her TED Talk. “On researching this, I realized that it’s because it is a continuous motion. So the key for me was to translate this feeling of walking on a staircase back to flat land.”

She played around with some ideas and finally landed on a simple two-dimensional representation of a staircase that can be glued to the ground to allow people with Parkinson’s to walk quicker and smoother. She calls it the “staircase illusion.”

“Technology isn’t always the solution,” Soneji told HuffPost France, explaining that the best solutions, in her experience, have been the simples.

Soneji now works in the Netherlands and is currently co-writing a paper on the "staircase illusion" with Bastiaan Bloem, a consultant neurologist at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre. Bloem was charmed by Soneji's staircase idea and plans to test it on more patients. Even though her uncle is the only patient so far who has tried and benefited from the "staircase illusion," Soneji hopes her designs will improve many more lives.

Maybelline's Newest Brand Ambassador Has Plans To Change The Fashion Industry

$

20-year-old model Herieth Paul may have more stamps on her passport than years on the planet. Born in Tanzania, she moved to Ottawa, Canada, with her diplomat mother when she was 11 years old. She was spotted at just 16 and spent four years on the international runway circuit for the likes of Givenchy and Balmain. This February, she was announced as a global brand ambassador for makeup giant Maybelline, joining the likes of Jourdan Dunn and Gigi Hadid.

It's still rare to see women of color represented in the beauty world, both in campaigns and for products themselves, so Paul's appointment is a welcome addition to the Maybelline lineup.

Paul isn't content with the mere fact of representation, however, and has stated in multipleinterviews that she plans to use her platform to change the face of the modeling industry. To learn more, we caught up with the supermodel about diversity, makeup tricks and the importance of beauty sleep.

HuffPost: Why do you think diversity has stalled on runways? Despite recent improvements, the runways currently feature only about 25 percent models of color, so what do you think needs to be done to get those numbers up after the initial push?

Herieth Paul: True change must start from within each of us. We must look outside ourselves and recognize that the world is made up of people of all different colors. Fashion is a reflection of the times we live in. Today fashion is a global business, runway shows are live-streamed all over the globe as they happen. With “see now/shop now,” smart designers will recognize the need to represent the times we live in on fashion runways and campaigns. Social media was the spark that initiated the discussion. More importantly we must continue to speak about it!

How do you plan to use your platform as a Maybelline spokeswoman to advance diversity in fashion and empower other girls of color?

Women of color are already empowered from within themselves. I plan to use my platform as a Maybelline spokeswoman to set a good example.

You are the face of a major cosmetics brand now -- what do you look for in makeup, particularly to suit your skin tone?

I love lightweight makeup. The texture and color must match perfectly, and that's what I get with Maybelline's "Fit Me" foundation.

How has social media helped you connect with other models and girls of color?

Social media is such a big part of our industry for everyone. This allows me to keep in contact with everyone, from maintaining friendships with other models wherever we are traveling for work, and also great opportunities to make new friends!

Can you discuss the differences in beauty culture between Tanzania, where you grew up, and Canada?

Beauty starts from within. Health is true beauty. The women in Tanzania are effortless with their beauty.  And I feel like women in Canada are also very similar.

You've spoken before about your decision to wear your hair short -- why is it still rare to see short hair in the fashion world?

Cutting my hair short was not my idea at first. But the very first second I cut it I fell in love with my hair. It's what sets me apart from other models. Back when I started modeling it was rare to see models of color with their natural hair. But now it's not so rare.

We at HuffPost are big proponents of sleep -- what's your idea of "beauty sleep," and what's your ideal sleep routine?

Beauty sleep is a must. Right before bed I take off my makeup with towelettes, and then apply my liquid cleanser with a washcloth to cleanse and gently exfoliate my skin. When I wake up in the morning I won't have any blemishes. I'm also big on afternoon naps. Every time I have a day off, I take 2-hour naps.

This Is the Fashion Company Everyone Wants to Work For

Earlier this year, Women's Wear Daily conducted a survey where it asked students at top fashion schools around the world, as well as people in WWD's social media networks, one question: What is the most desired company to work for in fashion?

The prevailing answer? None other than Chanel.

More than 200 brands, designers, and companies were named by the nearly 2,500 people who answered the survey, and the top-ranked companies after Chanel included VMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior SE, Alexander Wang, H&M and Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. The rankings differed slightly between results obtained via the social media portion of the survey (obtained via Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) and those given by the fashion school students.

We have to admit, the results reveal some interesting insights about what millennials are looking for in fashion jobs. While some of the top companies listed aren't as luxury-focused as others (H&M as compared to Chanel, for example), millennials seeking careers in fashion seem to be keenly aware that a prestigious history is wonderful, but not essential, for success. The survey revealed that young people chasing jobs in fashion are thinking about sustainability, career growth potential, and a positive work environment.

Some respondents to the survey offered explanations for their choices, which gave further clues as to why certain brands were desired above others. WWD explains that one woman said she considers Diane von Furstenberg a highly desirable brand to work for because it "stands for strong, confident women."

To see the full results of the survey, visit WWD.

Joe Biden, Olivia Wilde Honor Michael Kors

There aren't too many fashion designers who would welcome a comparison to Bob Dole, but Michael Kors took it as high praise.

Last night in Washington, Vice President Joe Biden presented Kors with the McGovern-Dole Leadership Award for his global efforts to fight hunger. The award, given by World Food Program USA, is named after the late Senator George McGovern and Dole, pioneers in the hunger movement.

"A few years ago we decided we wanted to expand our philanthropic efforts, and we went looking for an organization that was expert, that was effective, " Kors said of the WFP, which feeds 80 million people a year in over 80 countries struggling with poverty, natural disasters, and conflict.

"I have to tell you I came to this issue because I am an optimist and a pragmatist. In fashion, I know that if I can help a customer find the right look, it can change their attitude, and change their day to day life. When you give a child a plate of food, you aren't just giving them nutrition, you are giving a family a reason to send their child to school, " Kors explained.

Since 2013, Kors has led the Watch Hunger Stop campaign, which has delivered 13 million meals to children around the world. For every one of his limited edition wrist watches sold, the WFP can feed 100 children.

Kors sees hunger as "a problem that is solvable, "said his friend, actress Olivia Wilde, who sat opposite him during the dinner.

Kors was also joined by his husband, Lance LePere, and models Cameron Russell, Beverly Johnson, and Jessica Hart.

Other guests included Hunter Biden, White House Social Secretary Deesha Dyer, and actress Lynda Carter.

Nicki Minaj may have confused some people with her special dedication to Donald Trump and Vice President Joe Biden at the Time 100 Gala. However, we were a bit more mystified by the rapper-actress' polished hairstyle.

Before hitting the stage at the star-studded affair, Minaj walked the red carpet alongside Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci rocking a braided topknot. After doing a bit of research on Instagram, we discovered that Beyoncé's longtime hairstylist Kim Kimble was the woman behind this sleek updo.

While Minaj has experimented with less outrageous looks for some time now, we are absolutely loving this simple, yet sophisticated hairdos. What do you think?

Scroll down to see more of Minaj's flawless updo, and check out which other celebs made our best beauty list this week.

Down With High-heeled Shoes, I'll Keep My Flats

Maybe it's my Tennessee upbringing, perhaps my tomboyish tendencies, or because I spend my days on my feet as a Pediatric Dentist, but I have always been a fan of flat shoes. Ballet flats, loafers, sneakers, and even strappy sandals, I prefer to keep my feet on the ground. To those who worship at the altar of Christian Louboutin or Jimmy Choo, this may sound like trend-phobic blaspheme. But hear me out.

Once I started my professional life, I soon realized that wearing stilettos and pumps had no place in the office. Instead, ballerina flats, loafers, and sneakers became my shoes of choice. I can dress them up, dress them down, and at the end of a long day my feet are happy and energized.

Shockingly, I have even found that many men I have dated appreciate me wearing comfortable shoes. I remember one particular date where after dinner I was asked if I wanted to go to the driving range and hit some golf balls. He stopped himself and said, "Oh wait, you probably won't be comfortable in your shoes, will you?" Then he peeped a look at the cute pair of flats I had on and off we went to hit some golf balls! Yes, I easily and seamlessly transitioned from an elegant dinner to hitting golf balls at the local driving range, thanks to my cute flats. My date even made it a point to comment on how "low maintenance" I seemed, and how he hated when women wore shoes that were clearly uncomfortable.

Wearing flats is definitely not a new style for me. Growing up in the south and spending a lot of my time outdoors meant that I was always searching for a comfortable pair of shoes. I recall going to a local football game as a high school senior and noticing that a few of my friends were having a hard time walking because their heels continued to dig into the grass as they made their way down the field! Who wants that?

At 30 years old, I would like to think that my shoe choice doesn't play a big role in attractiveness or sex appeal, but either way, I would rather be comfortable. Kicked-back easy going style is my choice 99% of the time. We've all seen those women. You know the ones, they go grocery shopping or to their children's social events in the latest high heeled monstrosities to emerge from fashion week. You look at them walk, taking each step as though it were painfully deliberate, and slightly hunched over. You think, "Girl, why? Is it that serious?" I'm all for appreciating fashion, but when it comes to going about my daily routine, I'll take a t-shirt, worn in blue jeans and a pair of flats any day. It's not just because of the comfort, although that's a big part of it, but because of the wide range of flats that some of my favorite designers are now showing as part of their footwear collections. My personal favorite is Steve Madden. He has really upped his game with his women's flats collection. Strappy, printed, loafers, ballet flats, moccasins... oh my! It's all there and won't break the bank.

Now don't get me wrong. High heels will always be a staple piece in a woman's closet, but with more designers adding embellishments and different fabrics to their flats and flip flops and with sneaker companies such as Nike adding bling to their sneakers, I don't need to keep my precious feet at a continuous 60 degree angle and neither do you.

Whether you are dressing up or keeping it casually elegant, you will certainly be able to find a pair of flats that fit the occasion. If you're still not sold on the merits of flats and you're a die hard heels girl, do what I do on the rare occasions that I go for 3" or higher. Tuck a nice pair a flats into your purse.

Your feet will thank you.

Can you believe it's been five years since the day of the century royal wedding?

On Friday, April 29, 2011, many moons before the world became enamored with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, Kate Middleton officially became Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Her wedding to Prince William also served as the backdrop for one of the most iconic kisses and the world's formal introduction to Kate's sister, Pippa Middleton.

We could easily scroll through photos of the wedding party walking into Westminster Abbey, or the couple kissing on the balcony and waving to the slew of adoring fans, all day. But it's the details -- the shots of that adorable bridal party, or (our personal favorite) photos of the newlyweds driving off into royal matrimonial bliss in Prince Charles' vintage Aston Martin -- that really bring back the magic.

In honor of Will and Kate's fifth anniversary, relive all the glorious details below.

Kim Kardashian's Sheer Dress Will Make You Do A Double-Take

Kim Kardashian does many things most people simply cannot do. She has her own set of emojis and captures candid Snapchats of husband Kanye West, for example.

She also wears skintight, sheer Balmain dresses and hangs out in Los Angeles with iconic supermodels like Naomi Campbell

Mrs. West attended a signing for Campbell's new book Naomi on Thursday. It's a two-volume monster, with a 496-page retrospective of some of the most famous modeling shots in her portfolio (some of them fold-outs!), plus another 368 pages filled with never-before-seen images and personal snaps. The hefty book includes some fully nude photos, naturally.

Campbell, who looked gorgeous in vintage Galliano, posed with Kardashian like besties for attending photographers and on Kim's Instagram, where she thanked Campbell "for signing a book for North!"

Call us old fashioned, but the book, which retails for a whopping $1,750 and goes up to $2,500 on May 1 (act fast!), is not what we would call your average children's book. It has a cast of breasts on the front cover, for goodness' sake. But then, little North West is not an average child in an average family.

Sigh. We can only imagine the bedtime stories to come out of this one.

Jaden Smith's Cutout Hat Brings New Meaning To 'Whip My Hair'

We bet Jaden Smith didn't even need to bring a present to Gigi Hadid's 21st birthday bash. His presence is simply enough.

Hadid celebrated her big day in style with a party drawing all of young Hollywood to hotspot The Nice Guy, and, of course, Smith showed up to slay them all. The 17-year-old son to Will and Jada arrived at the event dressed in an all-black ensemble, accented by a statement-making hat that even British royals couldn't pull off.

The young actor's hair spilled out and onto the brim of a hat with top cut off. The cutout might defeat the express point of the accessory, but trust Jaden, because we'll all be rocking these by 2020. And don't forget: This style allows for ample opportunity to whip one's hair back and forth.

Jaden's hat is just one of many bold fashion statements he's made lately. Smith is now a high-fashion regular, making splashes on the pages of Vogue, scoring major branding partnerships with fashion houses like Louis Vuitton for their womenswear campaign and even starting his own line, MSFTSrep.

"Just Come Here"

One of his new designs, the shirt he wore to Hadid's birthday, is inspired by Martin Luther, the theological scholar who initiated the Protestant Reformation in Europe during the 16th century. Smith recently took to Instagram to explain the choice behind the clothing and his connection to the historical figure.

Martin Luther Was A German Professor Of Theology, Born In November Of 1483. Luther Was Brought Up In A World Where The Catholic Church Reigned Supreme Over 1/3 Of Land In Europe And Dominated European Civilization. At The Time, The Church Also Claimed To Be The Caretakers Of The Souls Of Their Catholic Parishioners. In The Middle Ages, Only The Town Priest Had The Ability To Read The Bible. Since The Bible Was Only Available In Latin The People Of This Age Had To Trust Their Parish Priest To Deliver The Information That Would Lead To Their Salvation. Luther Was A Lawyer Who Became A Priest After Being Struck By Lightning. This Near Death Experience Made Him Obsessed With Religion And Sinfulness. He Was Sent To Wittenberg To Teach Theology Because Of His Great Passion For Scripture. During His Stay, A Man Named Johann Tetzel Arrived Selling Indulgences. Indulgences Are A Donation To The Church For A Promise From The Pope To Shorten Your Time In Purgatory And Fast Track Your Entrance Into Heaven. Martin Luther Was Infuriated By Seeing His Colleagues Pay Half Of Their Yearly Wages For A Piece Of Paper From The Pope Clearing Them Of All Their Sins. Luther Knew The Pope Was Not Incorruptible Because In His Lifetime, Pope Alexander VI Had Fathered 4 Children While Being A Priest And Another While Being The Pope. In These Times This Was Far From Religiously Acceptable According To The Scripture. This Was Just One Example That Luther Witnessed Of Corruption In The Catholic Church. In Response, He Wrote The 95 Theses Against Indulgences And Dramatically Nailed Them To The Church Door For Everyone To See On October 31st, 1517. Luther Believed That Individual Christians Didn't Need Priests To Experience The Grace Of God. Therefore, Luther Took Advantage Of The Recent Invention Of The Printing Press To Publish His Own Translation Of The Bible. And For The First Time People Were Able To Read, Memorize, Debate And Perceive The Scripture On Their Own. Martin Luther Is A MSFT. He Saw A Flaw In The System And He Exposed It, Which Gave Power To The People. He Stood For The Truth.

Kylie Jenner Says She’s A Feminist Who Doesn’t Need Her Family’s Money

Kylie Jenner opens up about being a feminist and making her own money for the June issue of Glamour UK.

"I do consider myself a feminist," Jenner said. "I'm a young woman, for one thing, and I don't depend on a man or anybody else. I make my own money and start my own businesses, and I feel like I'm an inspiration for a lot of young girls who want to stand on their own."

The 18-year-old reality star and businesswomen, described as "digital royalty" by the magazine, has already carved out a name for herself in the beauty and fashion world.

Along with routinely selling out of her Kylie Cosmetics lines, Jenner already has a few clothing lines under her belt with sister Kendall. Because of her success and tactical business ventures, Jenner doesn't need to borrow from any family trust.

"I haven't had a dollar of my [mom's] money for five years," Kylie insisted. "Ever since I started earning my own money, I've paid for everything: all my cars, houses, clothes, everything. I like to know exactly what's going on and I'm actually quite careful with what I spend. We all are as a family."

In a previous interview with Interview magazine, Jenner said that she wasn't good with money, but it looks like she's changed her tune (or hired a few good accountants to manage all that dough).

Jenner also spoke about the end of the uber-successful "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" show on E!, which is set to premiere its 12th season soon. The reality star insists she'll continue on the show until it's over.

But as Kylie has revealed in previous interviews, she wants to be out of the public eye in about a decade.

"I'll go off the map," Jenner said to Interview magazine in 2015. "When I'm, like, 30, I want to go off the map, have a family, and live in Malibu with a farm, and just raise my own chickens."

The Obamas Trade Escalating Twitter Threats With Prince Harry And Queen Elizabeth II

Relations between the British royal family and the American royal family  president and first lady of the United States are cordial. Friendly, even. They pose for photos, have dinner parties together, and share similar views surrounding mental health awareness. They even touch

Or they used to, that is.

Everything changed Friday thanks to a scathing* Twitter war regarding the upcoming Invictus Games, an Olympics-style sporting competition founded by Prince Harry in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women. This spat has the potential to cause a rift in relations as large as the pond that separates these two nations.

It all started with a threat from Michelle Obama, who grabbed her husband, put on her best tough guy face and sent Prince Harry a bone-chilling message:

"Hey Prince Harry, remember when you told us to 'bring it' at the Invictus Games?" she asks. "Careful what you wish for," President Obama intones, before a group of servicemen and women "drop the mic" in the most intimidating fashion.

Oooh, scary! Kensington Palace was quick to issue a response from Prince Harry. Sure, the Obamas can talk the talk, but can they walk the walk?

He then teased a rebuttal and even (gasp!) brought emoji into it:

But just minutes later, top it he did.

"Unfortunately for you @FLOTUS and @POTUS I wasn't alone when you sent me that video," he tweeted, before sharing the mic drop to end all mics forever.

We won't ruin the best part for you, but let's just say Queen Elizabeth II is less than intimidated by our first lady's threats. "Oh really? Please," she tells America, as Prince Harry rightfully takes his throne as winner of the round.

This is a developing story. We'll be sure to update this post if and when there are any further cutting** words are exchanged ahead of the games, which make their U.S. debut in Orlando May 8-12.

*By "scathing," we mean absolutely adorable and amazing.

A 100-Year-Old Will Grace The Pages Of Vogue For The First Time

Move over Gigi and Kendall. Make way for 100-year-old Bo Gilbert. The silver-haired centenarian will be the first model of her age to grace the pages of British Vogue as part of an upcoming issue to celebrate the magazine's centennial.

Rocking designer duds (those glasses are Valentino!), Gilbert also posed for photos to run as ads for upscale British department store, Harvey Nichols.

Gilbert, who was born in 1916, has lived through decades of evolving fashion trends.

"I love the different fashions. We were all for these hats in those days," Gilbert said in a behind-the-scenes video. "But now you never see anybody in a hat."

The 1950s were her favorite time, when trousers for women became more mainstream. And her favorite style icon? Audrey Hepburn, of course.

Gilbert said she's always made a point of dressing well daily and maintaining a certain "standard." But here's her best advice to all the fashionistas out there: "I dress to suit myself. I certainly don't dress up for boys!"

'Atta girl!

Harvey Nichols says she was chosen because she "epitomises timeless style."

"We’re really proud to be involved in a project which proves the older generation can be fearlessly stylish too," a spokesman for Harvey Nichols' ad agency said. "Ageism is so last century.”

Hear, hear.

GQ Is So Out Of Touch It Thinks You Can Afford A $4,595 Backpack

Sometimes, GQ has a way of making us feel like peasants.

We look to the publication for guidance on what to wear today, how to do our laundry and for advice on how to restrain our exclamation point habits, but its endorsement on Thursday of a "crazy-cool" backpack that "will get you spotted" has us feeling it might be a little blinded by the glare of fancy things.

Does GQ really think the average reader can afford a backpack that costs $4,595?!?

What are we going to carry in it, a crystal decanter? Naomi Campbell's $2,000 book? Menswear dog? Frankie Muniz?

It's a good-looking backpack, sure. And we get that it's Valentino, and that GQ is promoting its partnership with the online marketplace Mr Porter -- but the site recommends you wear it with a Maison Margiela sweater ($565), a Balenciaga T-shirt ($265), Valentino mohair pants and sneakers ($695 and $695) for a spit-take worthy $6,815 outfit.

GQ's headline says the backpack "will get you spotted," and while we get the camouflage joke, it might just get you spotted by a kidnapper looking for ransom instead.
