Seven Women With the Same Earring

Seven women with the same Dior earring at Milan Fashion Week: talk about individuality.

I never thought I would be writing about one single product after spending four days in Milano as a street style photographer for fashion week. There is so much to see, there are so many people from the fashion industry, bloggers, stars -- and each of them wants to stand out from the crowd. And then I find seven people wearing the same item. How could this happen? Either Dior sent out free earrings or they just really seem to have met the Zeitgeist.

Messy Hair Takes Over The Runways At Paris Fashion Week

No brush? No problem! At least that seems to be the theme at Paris Fashion Week.

Show after show, models have strutted down the runway looking like they just rolled out of bed -- though we can assure you, these messy hairdos took hours to create backstage. From Carven to Dries Van Noten, it appears as though putting too much effort into your locks is taboo, and we have to say, this is a trend we can get on board with. (Especially if it means extra time in the morning!)

So, are you going to take a cue from these designers and ditch the blow dryer come September?

Rick Owens Showcases Another Diverse Runway For Paris Fashion Week

It seems like it was just yesterday that we saw a fierce step team take over Rick Owens' show last fall during Paris Fashion Week Spring 2014. And while the fashion world was shocked then, it seems that Owens isn't done featuring diverse models.

This time around, the women rocking Owens' Fall/Winter 2014 collection were of different races and sizes, but there seemed to be a good range of age. Older women strutted down in oversized silhouettes and a palette of clay red, grays and blacks.

Owens' unconventional walkers came just in time as mature models are having a serious moment right now. With Charlotte Rampling for NARS and Jessica Lange for Marc Jacobs Beauty, it seems that we're going to be seeing a lot more age when it comes to fashion shows, campaigns and editorial spreads.

Look below to see some standout looks from the Rick Owens fall collection:

Miranda Kerr's H&M Campaign Is Normal, And We Like It

Finally, the moment we've all been waiting for -- photos from the H&M spring campaign, featuring model Miranda Kerr, were released right after H&M's upscale showcase at Paris Fashion Week.

Although we love a good high fashion spread, we were in awe for another reason. Surprisingly, Kerr is styled in day-to-day looks that aren't too flashy, which makes these outfits totally wearable. Although it's been known that H&M caters to both our staple and statement piece needs, it seems that the mass retailer is making an effort to appeal to a more relaxed, casual customer.

Our favorite look has to be the slouchy gray T-shirt and knee-length black skirt because it has the right balance of comfort and sophistication. And we love the chic sweatpants with the blazer, which is a perfect go-to if you have to leave the house on Sundays. But of course, we think Kerr looks great in every shot from the campaign.

Check out some of the H&M photos below and tell us which is your favorite.

Is Social Media Actually Making Us More Social?

$

2014-02-27-Communication.png

No question that social media has revolutionized communication. As a result, are becoming more knowledgeable, more direct, and in a lot of ways, more diversified. But what is going to happen to real, human experiences and interactions in the years to come?

Social media has significantly changed the way many of us operate in our personal and professional lives. Well -- some of us more than others! We have all seen people who are so obsessed with pouring their life out on social media that they actually forget how to live it. We complain "that couple" who fights with each other over Facebook, or that bride-to-be who is so swept up in the attention of posting every moment on Instagram -- that she forgets to enjoy her engagement. Or even the guy that pretty much just details every move he makes on Twitter: "Just woke up and made some toast. About to mow the lawn. #Saturday." With this rapid change in online behavior, it is no wonder why some say that social media has totally corrupted us.

You we could choose to think of it that way. Or we could choose to think that social media has actually given us a platform for greater, and more direct communication. Because of social media, we are able to connect with people that we would never have the opportunity to meet, simply because we are allowed access -- instead of having to be in the right place at the right time. We're able to passively share the lives of people we know on Facebook and other social platforms. We COULD see this as an opportunity for greater personal growth.

Reading or hearing about something will never (and SHOULD never) replace really connecting with others through shared experiences. New social media networks are starting to pick up on this trend -- using their platform as a tool to allow people to have real life experiences.

Skout is probably the most popular example of this. It is a social media dating site that uses a GPS tracking device to find other singles in your area, view their profiles and decide if you want to meet. It's similar to Tinder, but a little classier. It seems to be more about making real human connection than simply "hooking up."

Nexercise is a social exercise app that tracks your gym and eating habits, while keeping you engaged in a social network of other health-conscious friends. It alerts you whenever your friends are currently working out or have reached a milestone in their fitness goals -- giving you a huge incentive to stick with your exercise and eating plans. It also promotes friends going to the gym with one another, rather than alone. It's social and fun if you're working out (and yeah, it kind of shames you to your friends if you're not!).

1st Class Fashion is a very new social platform. It was founded by a medical doctor with a passion for fashion and travel. One day while waiting at the airport, he found himself paying close attention to people's fashion and thought of how cool it would be if people could fly according to their personal style. So he developed this media platform in which people from all over the world can post their fashion pictures and generate "likes." Those reaching over 300 Likes receive a first class plane ticket to anywhere they would like -- so they can actually experience fashion in different cities FIRSTHAND.

Living in a world where limit our communication to 150 characters or less, we should support social media like this and get ourselves out making real personal connections.

'Breatharian' Barbie Valeria Lukyanova Says She Wants To Live Off Light And Air Alone

A Ukrainian model who has cast herself as a real-life Barbie doll says she eventually hopes to live without eating or drinking.

Valeria Lukyanova, whose doll-like features and ultra-thin waist have stirred controversy in the past, has apparently made it her goal to survive "on air and light alone."

"In recent weeks I have not been hungry at all," Lukyanova said, according to the International Business Times. "I'm hoping it's the final stage before I can subsist on air and light alone."

The website linked that dietary desire to a New Age practice known as Breatharianism, in which followers neither neither eat nor drink, believing they can exist solely on "cosmic micro-food."

Lukyanova, who believes in reincarnation and claims to have been in contact with transdimensional beings, has said she uses her appearance to promote her "spiritual ideas."

But Jezebel.com maintains that Lukyanova is merely starving herself in order to maintain her dollish proportions.

Last year, a 65-year-old Seattle woman who went 47 days living only on water and tea, cited Breatharian yogis as her inspiration. Naveena Shine's goal was to maintain the extreme fast for 100 days, but she called it off after receiving what she called "a message from the universe that it is time to stop."

Commenting on Shine's case, Dr. Ronald Hoffman, medical director of the Hoffman Center and host of a weekly health talk podcast, told the Guardian that it is "delusional to think that you can escape the laws of biology."

At least one person has starved to death trying to adhere to a Breatharian regimen.

Uganda's Miniskirt Ban Prompts Protests After Vigilante Strippings

Around 200 women took to the streets of Uganda's capital on Wednesday defending their right to wear miniskirts. The demonstration came after the government approved a new law that bans "indecent" outfits for women.

The BBC reports that the demonstrators, some wearing now-forbidden miniskirts, gathered in Kampala to protest the draconian law, arguing it provides a free pass for sexual harassment and encourages blaming the victim.

The protesters were prevented by police from marching through the capital city.

The new rule is part of a piece of anti-pornography legislation that lists "indecent show ... of sexual parts of a person for primary sexual excitement" as a form of pornography, Ugandan newspaper Daily Monitor explains.

And just in case that sounds confusing, Ethics Minister Simon Lokodo was on hand to clarify: “If your miniskirt falls within the ambit of this definition then I am afraid you will be caught up by the law.” Earlier, he added that this includes "anything above the knee."

Activists warn that since the ban became law there has been an explosion of vigilantes attacking and stripping women who they consider to be dressed inappropriately, according to Daily Monitor.

"We shall not allow women to pass on the road with skimpy dresses. Undressing them in public is the only way to stop them,” one man told the newspaper.

During the miniskirt protest on Wednesday, too, passers-by taunted some of the female protesters, shouting insults.

Activist Patience Akumu, from campaign group End Miniskirt Harassment, told Voice of America that the government is letting mobs harass women over their clothing in order to score cheap political points in the conservative society.

“I think women have become an easy target, a scapegoat for all the problems,” she added.

The miniskirt ban passed just days before a controversial anti-gay bill that would jail people for homosexuality. Several countries cut aid to the African nation to protest the approval of the homophobic legislation.

Oscar's Men

It's Academy Award time! That means the beauty and entertainment worlds are abuzz with endless lists of Award night predictions: Who will win, what will be worn and who has had work done? And the door is wide open for satire. The best example is this week's New Yorker cover, entitled "Ready for his Closeup," which depicts Oscar himself atop his pedestal, amidst a floating list of the cosmetic procedures he's undergone to get ready for his big night.

The pre-Oscar forecasts usually focus on women's beauty and fashion. But what about the men? For so long, men's grooming and fashion had been so unremarkable, there was hardly any need to address the topic. But in the last few years, there has been a rebirth of style in the men's arena, and the attention is beginning to shift. Gentlemen on the Red Carpet are taking more risks (think Matthew McConaughey's deep green velvet tux at the Golden Globes) -- and they are spending more time on their hair, taking cues from historical styles from the 20s right up through the 60s. Men's cuts have gotten closer, higher and tighter. But more surprising is the styling: the return of the part and slicked hair has gotten much attention in publications like Details Magazine and online blogs.

Whether this is a case of life imitating art or the other way around is an enduring argument. I do believe we have a number of movies and television shows to thank for this broad resurgence of classic looks. In recent years, we've had Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire to inspire us, as well as 2013's Great Gatsby and Monuments Men. And sure, there are celebrities like Mr. Dicaprio who have sported the parted, slicked look on the Red Carpet for years. But there are newcomers to the style, like Mr. Timberlake and Mr. Pitt, who's closely cropped and combed hair is a real departure from past looks.

2014-02-27-photo13.JPGWhat I love about this shift in men's style is that although it is inspired and informed by looks from last century, it is very wearable right now. Our very own resident Men's Groomer, Amelie Lemoine, adds that the most modern update ot the movement is a nicely manicured 5 o'clock shadow. "Three or four days' growth with a clean line on the cheeks and neck is very stylish and current," she says. With or without the scruff, it's a highly requested look in the salon, worn by many of our regular clients and staff. And I predict we will see much of it on the Red Carpet this Sunday -- along with a good amount of Botox, collagen, and chemical peels.

12 Beauty Essentials for Getting Red-Carpet Ready (Or Big Event Ready for Us Mere Mortals)

This weekend the stars will be scampering about Los Angeles, preparing for the Oscars with last minute spray tans, facials, and body scrubs and the like. And don't think for a second that once they hit that red carpet Sunday evening they will just be carrying breath mints and their phones. Oh no -- you can bet the stars will be armed with little secret beauty arsenals tucked in their evening bags.

Even though most of us mere mortals will probably watch the Oscars on Sunday from our couches wearing our best sweatpants without a speck of makeup on our faces, there will be other nights when a red carpet beauty regimen will come in handy. Weddings. Prom. Reunions. TGIF Fridays.

For most of us to follow a celebrity's red carpet beauty regimen it would be exorbitantly expensive (think several thousands of dollars) and a bit of a time suck (celebs spend weeks if not months getting ready for the Oscars red carpet). But, there are some key products you can use to prepare for your next big event. Click through the slideshow below to see my favorite red carpet regimen beauty products.

Kate Middleton at the Oscars: What the Duchess Should Wear

When Prince William attended the BAFTAs a few weeks ago, it was a major moment. British royalty had collided with Hollywood, and our heads nearly exploded. It reminded us of when Princess Diana cut a rug with John Travolta at the White House in 1985, and we longed for Kate Middleton to have an equally dashing moment.

So what better opportunity than this Sunday's Oscars? Couldn't you just imagine Kate being entranced by Matthew McConaughey's Southern twang or talking models with Leonardo DiCaprio? Certainly, the princess would have plenty to talk about with Cate Blanchett, but what would she wear?

SEE MORE: Kate Middleton's Hair is Under Attack!

While she could certainly turn to her rotation of designers such as Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Temperley London, or Jenny Packham, but some American tastemakers had different thoughts. "Kate needs to wear something British and gorgeous," says Barneys' Simon Doonan. "I am seeing her having an Erdem moment." Thus, Doonan selected a strapless, sheer floral number from the designer. "It's a little more fashion-y than the kind of frock Kate might wear at home, but I think she could take a risk or two on the Oscar red carpet."

Stylist Kemal Harris chose a more conservative pink gown from Ralph Lauren, saying, "Look number 33 from Ralph Lauren fall 2014 would be beautiful on Kate!" But it was her colleague Karla Welch's selection from Saint Laurent that really threw us for a loop-an Angelina Jolie loop. "Kate should wear a tuxedo by Saint Laurent," says Welch. "I love this look. Of course, the blouse would be lined and the royal jewels added!" Now, that's the kind of Oscar moment we would die for.

The reason everyone thinks that gay guys are uh, a bit promiscuous, is because we are gay. That's not actually how it works. It's because we are horny men scared of our emotions, which leads us to do awful, awful things.

So, when my girlfriends come to me for advice about the guys they're dating, I don't advise them from a gay point of view: I come from my straight guy "Mike" perspective, just like the guys making them insane.

Here is some real simple advice taken from outtakes over some of my recent conversations during cocktails:

1.
Girlfriend: "It's weird. I always hear from him during the week, but come the weekend, he's no where to be found."

Me: "Oh no, you got it twisted. He's not MIA. He's either NFL, NBA, or in somebody else's bed. Yeah, that's the way it goes. It's all about pattern. If someone breaks theirs, they are up to no good."

2.
Girlfriend: "We never go out. We always order in."

Me: "You might as well be dating the Chinese food delivery man. At least you'll both get a tip."

3.
Girlfriend: "I haven't met any of his friends yet."

Me: "Right, because a) he thinks of you as a f*ck buddy b) you're not really dating or c) you're a dirty little secret. Whatever it may be, it's strange because when you're into the other person you want everyone to meet them."

4.
Girlfriend: "I think he drinks a lot."

Me: "Have you met yourself lately? I'd probably have to drink a lot to be around you too, especially when you're acting crazy like this. Maybe he does have a drinking problem or maybe he just has a problem with you. I do know if he doesn't behave the same way when he's sober, let's get you another martini and think about that..."

5.
Girlfriend: "After 10 p.m. his phone goes to voicemail."

Me: "Please tell me you aren't sending crazy texts in succession such as:
Are you there?
Hello? Guess not.
Okay sleep well ☺.
He is blowing you off. Get a hold of yourself. Our phones are with us 24/7. Unless he works the night shift, I'd say he's working his remote control or another girl. I have only one question for you, 'Do you always smile at someone that tells you to f*ck off?'"

6.
Girlfriend: "He told me I'm needy."

Me: "You're needy because you are acting horribly insecure and nagging him. Stop, with this. Let him chase you. That's what guys are supposed to do... hunt."

7.
Girlfriend: "Do you think I should ask him, 'Where is this relationship going?'"

Me: "If you have to ask that, it's going nowhere. Guys don't say, 'Oh I'm so glad you asked me that because I wanted to tell you this is really going somewhere.' Let the relationship unfold on its own."

8.
Girlfriend: "He tells me I'm the one. But we only went on three dates. Not sure what I think about that."

Me: "That's a full-on lunatic. Unless it's love at first sight, which it doesn't seem to be, something isn't right with that guy. He's more than likely a serial dater and a heart breaker. Skip. Proceed to your next OkCupid date."

9.
Girlfriend: "He keeps talking about his mom and he hopes that she approves..."

Me: "What a jerk. Making you live up to mommy standards. Does he want to sleep with his mom? Only boys that are emotionally stunted pull this card. You need a man."

10.
Girlfriend: "I slept with him. But it was our second date. Was that bad?"

Me: "Really, are you really asking me this question? When a guy meets a girl he's thinking, 'Could this be the mother of my children?' Never sleep with a guy the first, second or third date. Don't get fooled with the false power of making a man cum. On the fourth date, let him go down on you first. He has to earn a really good blow job."

Uniqlo's Parent Company May Buy J. Crew: WSJ

$

Japanese retail mammoth Fast Retailing is reportedly in talks to purchase U.S.-based J. Crew, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Though the talks are still at an "early stage," J. Crew is looking for up to $5 billion in a sale, the report claims.

J. Crew is owned by private equity firms TPG Capital and Leonard Green & Partners and boasts a fleet of more than 400 stores in the U.S.

Fast Retailing, the parent company of Uniqlo, is the largest apparel retailer in Asia. In recent years, chief executive Tadashi Yanai has spearheaded a plan to expand aggressively overseas, setting the audacious goal of becoming the biggest seller of clothes in the world by 2020.

"We will become the overwhelming number one brand in Asia, and we will continue our strategy of massive store launches and expand our territory," the CEO said of Uniqlo at a news conference last April. "Of course we want to become number one in the U.S., if we can."

Yanai has postured about massive acquisitions before. In 2009, he said global apparel behemoth Gap was "within the scope" of names he may consider pursuing.

In addition to Uniqlo, Fast Retailing owns a variety of other brands like Theory, Helmut Lang and J Brand.

More Than One Healthy Body: Former Pageant Queens Weigh In

$

People talk a lot about health, weight, and how the two correspond. The general consensus seems to be that "healthy" does not look the same on every body type. Agreed. But what if each body type -- each individual -- doesn't have one weight or look that reflects personal health? Can the same person be equally healthy at 125lbs and 150lbs? Can we be just as healthy with normal, flat-ish stomachs rather than six packs... even if our bodies are proven to be capable of the latter?

Men and women alike look to the cover of Fitness Magazine or at their marathon-running friends for proof that their bodies are unhealthy or unattractive. These harmful body-to-body comparisons are constantly critiqued and analyzed by talk shows and blogs and Facebook statuses and "real" celebrities. But what about the comparisons we all make with our past selves? Most of us were at an "ideal" weight at one time in our lives. We have pictures that we look back upon with a sense of anxiety...Why don't I look like that anymore??? That's my body's happy weight. That's when my arms were toned and healthy. I'm ready for the underexposed discussion about the battle many of us face -- the one where we use ourselves as the weapon.

I am an ex-beauty queen.

At this time, please take 15 seconds for silent reflection. Think of all of the pageant stereotypes you may have immediately placed on me. Let them sink in. Accept them. Now take a deep breath. Let them go. Good, good, now we can move forward.

Before becoming Miss New York 2012, I competed in my fair share of pageants within the Miss America Organization. This means I spent years getting into fighting shape for the swimsuit portion of pageants. I cannot speak for every woman in pageants, but for me, I was healthy as a horse for swimsuit. Sure, I was really thin, but I was in great shape thanks to hours in the gym. I ate mostly protein and veggies, but didn't deprive myself of every little thing. At the end of the day, I rocked that bikini like I was Alessandra Ambrosio (okay, maybe only in my head...).

Surprise, surprise -- my body does not look like that anymore. I still eat relatively healthily and go to the gym 3-4 days a week (rather than 6-7), but am a size 4 instead of a size 0-2. Sometimes I catch myself looking at pictures, thinking "I am not as healthy as I used to be. I have got to get my pageant bod back." HOW RIDICULOUS. My doctor says I am currently the epitome of health. Funny thing, though... he told me the same thing when I was in pageant shape. You see, muscles are healthy, but so are hips and boobs. Guess what boobs are made of? Not muscle. Just saying.

L: Associate at a strategy and management consulting firm/Aspiring Writer; R: Miss Virginia 2011 Competition (I don't have a full length picture of when I competed for Miss New York... womp)
L Work Out: 3-4 days a week/30-45 mins; R Work Out: 6-7 days a week/1-1.5 hours

My take on health: I've gone through stages of not working out for X or Y excuse, but found that I felt constantly tired and spent way too much time stressing about my looks. Eating healthily and hitting the gym even just a few days a week takes about 2-3 hours of my time each week, which is an amazing trade for the countless hours I spent feeling lethargic and insecure. Health is objectively seen in your body, but it's also about subjectively how you feel... and hopefully, those things align!

I'm not telling anyone that gaining bunches of weight isn't a health problem. I'm talking to the crowd who still works out regularly and doesn't eat like they're Michael Phelps. To those folks, keep in mind that you don't need a booty that can bounce a penny in order to be fit! Your body can display more than one representation of happy and healthy. With basic maintenance and balance, post-pageant (or baby or career) bodies are just as desirable and healthy as the pre-[fill in the blank] bodies!

My friends are great examples... my friends being Miss America 2013, Miss America 2010, Miss Virginia 2010, and Miss Virginia 2011 (does this count as name-dropping?). These women were incredibly beautiful and healthy on the Miss America stage, but are still incredibly beautiful and healthy today. Most of them are like me, however, owning their health in bodies that don't look the exact same as they did when they were focused on competing in a swimsuit (though they still look pretty darn fantastic). They did not starve themselves or take unhealthy measures to reach that competition physique (self-control and deprivation are different beasts), plus they continue to treat their bodies with respect in their new daily routines that don't revolve around bikini-wear. The only difference in their health is that they may look slightly different. And you know what? That's okay.

The women below are 10-25lbs heavier than their lowest pageant weights. They are brave and proud and strong to bare their health in honesty while facing a culture full of critics! May any reader bear that in mind (though I'm sure most of you will agree that they look fantastic in both bodies).

R Work Out: Alternated Weight Training (45 min) and Cardio (45 min) every other day; Tap Dancing (1 hour) three days a week, Bikram Yoga (1.5 hours) three days a week

Mallory's take on health: I truly believe that health cannot be measured with the eyes. Health is a combination of consistently choosing nutritious food, maintaining an active lifestyle, being spiritually fulfilled, being connected and engaged with your friends and loved ones but, most of all, enjoying your life. While competing in swimsuit, I may have been overjoyed with how amazing my body looked, but I never felt as though I was "living." As I've been quoted before, "sometimes you just want potatoes!" I'll take a glass of champagne, an occasional piece of bread and even delicious dessert every once in a while over the "perfect" body. Why? Because that's what makes me HAPPY! To heck with the rest of it.

Caressa's take on health: Being mentally, emotionally, and physically healthy is critically important as a young woman. Finding the time to nurture all of those areas amidst our ambition, careers, school, volunteering, friendships and families can often be hard. The most important thing is to find the space where YOU are happy with you and not allowing society to dictate what you SHOULD look like. Side note: My husband loves my curves.

Elizabeth's take on health: I grew up with a southern cook for a mother so nutrition and organics were kind of foreign until recently. I've found that what you put into your body has the most impact on how you look, and I've been experimenting with healthy cooking. I use garlic in everything!

L Work Out: 3-4 days a week (workout DVDs and gym)/30min-1 hour; R Work Out: 6 days a week/1-2 hours

Katie's take on health: Healthy isn't about a number -- it's about having a body that that is strong and capable of carrying us through life. We should celebrate our bodies for all they do for us daily rather than punish them for the small superficial ways we feel they don't live up to society's unrealistic ideals. We are so much more than a shell, so much deeper than we appear. There are so many more valuable ways to judge a person and so many truer measures of a woman than her waistline or dress size. Respect your body as a vehicle to take you where you want to go in life, and remember that true beauty is demonstrated through the way in which we live our lives.

Living Successfully With Host Jacqueline M. Wood of E!'s Party On

A life examined is thoughtful, decisive and in constant pursuit of dynamic change. For the serious entrepreneur, it isn't enough to just "live" from one stagnated moment to the next. Their lives are constantly in flux -- moving with meaningful fluidity. They walk bravely into the blindness of nothing and realize they have everything to gain in the end.

Such is the case of seasoned soap veteran Jacqueline M. Wood, who recently took a leap of faith. After receiving critical acclaim for her portrayal of strong-willed vixen Steffy on The Bold and The Beautiful and two Daytime Emmy Nominations in 2012 and 2013, Wood gave up what seemed to be a career on fire to host E! Television's new series, Party On. Read on and discover one woman's secret to success while living without regrets.

Nova Lorraine: Tell us more about your international background.

Jacqueline Wood: I was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada which is right beside Detroit. As a child, I traveled around Canada a lot. I am Scottish from my mother's side and French, Brazilian, and Native American from my father's side. My mom is originally from Scotland and she loves traveling, it's a big part of her life. I'm definitely my mother's daughter: I decided to spread my wings and make travel a part of my life, too!

Nova Lorraine: What has been your most challenging experience trying to break into the industry?

Jacqueline Wood: Coming from a different country is difficult. So is having a lot of doors shut on you. I'm a fighter, so when someone says "no" to me, I try to figure out what I need to adjust to hear the yes. Everyone gets type-casted and dealing with that is tough. I try to just keep on moving while remembering that everything happens for a reason. I was lucky to book a show pretty quickly after getting to L.A., but I struggled getting started in Vancouver. If I had gotten those earlier roles in Vancouver, I wouldn't have gone to L.A. to get the show that launched my career.

Nova Lorraine: How did you make the leap from The Bold and the Beautiful?

Jacqueline Wood: I was working on some other projects while with The Bold and the Beautiful. I then decided to leave the show and take a leap of faith and see what happened. Sometimes you don't want to look back and say: "What if?" even though it felt good to have a safety net. I needed to take this leap. I wanted to travel for a month, but still get work and go on auditions. I got a call from my agent telling me the Wild On team from E! wanted to meet with me about a new show they were developing. After some great meetings, I got the call that I booked the show.

Nova Lorraine: What are some of your long-term goals?

Jacqueline Wood: Number one is to be happy. As I get older, the things that I want are starting to make more sense. Being able to travel makes me happy and I am a person that lives in the moment. I also want to live a good life. Traveling makes everyday issues seem so much smaller and really changes my perspective on things.

Nova Lorraine: Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring actors and entrepreneurs?

Jacqueline Wood: Keep on trying! If you really feel it, you have to keep learning and have thick skin. Don't be afraid to be awesome. Sometimes being weird and different is good. When you think you're working hard, there is always someone else working harder, so always be yourself and know your stuff.

This week's best-dressed list was filled with stars who understand the power of simple styling and superb tailoring.

Jenna Elfman was picture perfect in a vibrant red trumpet skirt, while Zoe Kravtiz stunned in a chic LBD. But actress Emmy Rossum was by far our favorite style star this week after stepping out in a deep blue-hued J.Mendel dress that fit her like a glove.

Check out the ladies who made our best-dressed list this week and tell us if you agree!

Naomie Harris in Monique Lhuillier

We love a good jumpsuit and this ladylike version totally stole our hearts. The cut-out design is edgy, but the lace insets help to soften the look.

Kate Hudson in Emilio Pucci

Sometimes the perfect outfit is as simple as pairing a classic blouse with a mini skirt. That's exactly what Kate did this week and she even took a risk by completing the outfit with the always-tricky white pump. But, she pulled it off like a champ.

Jenna Elfman in Wes Gordon

We can't decide what we love most about this look. The sleeveless embellished blouse is amazing, the bold crimson skirt is fabulous and those cap toe-and-lucite pumps are fantastic.

Emmy Rossum in J.Mendel

Wowzas! Emmy looks absolutely stunning in this dress! She should get this made in every color.

Zoe Kravtiz in Calvin Klein Collection

zoe kravitz
Zoe is known for her free-spirited (read: disheveled) ensembles on the red carpet, so we were pleasantly surprised to see her don this sleek and sophisticated number. Plus, you just can't go wrong in a LBD.

The 2014 Academy Awards are almost upon us! We love sitting with a group of friends and watching the awards. Most people thinking hosting Oscar party means planning something fancy and over the top. But we think it should be all about sharing the experience with friends. A good Oscar party (as with any party) should be easy and fun. Here are our 5 simple steps for creating a simple Oscar party:

The Game
Keep the night interesting by giving each guest a ballot and having them pick the winners. Have guests chip in $1-$10 and collect the ballots prior to the first award being given.
At the end of the night select the winner and give them their pot of "gold." Click here to see a list of this year's nominees. Or you can download a pre-made ballot here.

The Setting
Clear coffee table clutter and keep the focus on the TV. Keep guests entertained by focusing on predicting the outcome of the awards. Since everyone will have money on the "game" this is sure to keep things high spirited.

Turn off harsh overhead lighting and turn on table lamps and use candles to create a comfortable atmosphere to view the awards.

The Seating
Comfortable seating with a good view of the TV for all of your guests. Yet, make sure to have an area out of TV viewing range where guests can gather and chat during commercial breaks or if they need to stretch their legs. Four hours is a long time in front of the TV.

The Food
Add flecks of edible gold leaf to cocktails. Create a buffet of easy to grab finger foods so that guests can nosh throughout the evening, while watching the show. Place the food on fancy china and serve on real plates. Make dessert easy -- carmel popcorn balls or gold macaroons are always a good choice

Swag Bags
Create take away bags for guests filled with chocolates, bath goodies, a coffee gift cards. It doesn't have to be fancy but will be a fun treat for guests to end the night with.

Most of all have fun!

We Don't Understand What The Ladies On This Week's Worst-Dressed List Were Thinking

We're not quite sure what the stars on this week's worst-dressed list were thinking. Our roundup is filled with fashion fails that could have definitely been avoided.

For example, Saoirse Ronan forgot to dress her age and actress Maggie Grace wore pajamas on the red carpet. And sadly, we had to bestow the title of worst-dressed star this week to actress Julianne Moore for rocking a dress that she should have never put on her back.

Here's a look at all our wost-dressed picks of the week. Let us know if you agree.

Saoirse Ronan

saoirse ronan
Why, Saoirse? Why? There is no reason that a beautiful young actress should ever be caught in such an unflattering get-up. She should befriend Emma Watson and raid her closet.

Laura Vandervoort

laura vandervoort
The major problem with this outfit is... everything! From the wet hair, cropped/half-peplum top and that stiff tea-length skirt, Laura would have been better off just staying home.

Regina King

regina king
One word: Ouch! It's unclear what exactly is holding together the front of Regina's dress, but they definitely look painful. Furthermore, the capped gown is ill-fitting and does nothing for the actress' fantastic figure.

Julianne Moore

julianne moore
We hate to include Julianne on our worst-dressed list, but this dress is a fail. The asymmetrical design is awkward, frumpy and a far cry from the fabulous looks we're used to seeing her in. Those strappy heels were also no-no, too.

Maggie Grace

maggie grace
PSA: Never wear night gowns on the red carpet.

The 86th annual Academy Awards are almost here, so before March 2, let's take a journey back in time.

Prior to the era of Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, stars like Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood graced the silver screen and made their way into many hearts. As did celebrities like Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Sonny and Cher.

These vintage Oscars photos, provided by mptv Images, will transport you to the '50s, '60s and '70s:

Lower-Lid Eyeliner That Makes You Look Cool, Not Sleepy

We'll just come right out and say it: Lining our lower lids makes us nervous. And, who can blame us? When it comes to accenting the bottom halves of our peepers, the potential-disaster factor is high. (Consider our middle-school yearbook a perfect example.) Throw in the fact that improperly executed lower-lid makeup can actually make eyes appear smaller, and we're downright shakin' in our boots.

Rihanna Sits Front Row At The Dior Fashion Show And Kills It

We're really wishing we were in Paris right about now, and our Twitter feeds aren't making us feel much better about it.

Paris Fashion Week kicked off with a bang, and we've been closely following editors and bloggers for the latest updates on runway trends and front row action. Rihanna graced us with her presence and impeccable style at the Dior show, as she dressed in a plunging black V-neck dress, fabulous red fur coat topped with pearls and a bold red lip. Killin' it as always, Rihanna. Jessica Alba also showed up in the City of Light wearing soft, muted tones and an adorable bob.

In other news, Sarah Jessica Parker released her shoe line this week, declaring, "If I’m going to ask you for $325, I better wear the shoe myself." Well, that's good to know SJP.

Check out the must-see tweets of the week below.
