The newly engaged Julianne Hough enjoyed a few bikini'd days on the beach with her girlfriends this weekend. The "Dancing with the Stars" judge and actress basked in the sun with friends, including Lauren Paul, Arielle Vandenberg and Riawna Capri, at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.

The gal pals headed down to Mexico for the Beauty Coach Retreat, where they dined on curated high-protein menus and enjoyed the award-winning Rhythm and Motion treatments from the Rock Spa. Hough, 27, even hosted her own personal workout classes in the Yoga Temple and on the rooftop of her Rock Star Suite.

The ladies shared a ton of photos on Instagram under the hashtag "#everyrosehasitssquad," and let their friend Nina Dobrev know she was missed

Duchess Kate Goes Sheer At The 'Spectre' Premiere

This is not your average night out at the movies.

The Duchess of Cambridge attended the premiere of "Spectre," the 24th installment in the James Bond franchise, at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Monday.

For her night out with Prince William and Prince Harry, Kate opted for a long-sleeve draped Jenny Packham gown with a sparkly belt and just a peek of skin showing through a slit in the sheer (!) back. She wore her iconic hair in a stunning detailed updo -- to show off major drop earrings, of course.

With maternity leave apparently behind her, Kate joined William for a handful of official engagements over the past week, including a fancy state dinner (to which she also wore Packham), an appointment with the president of China, and a day in Dundee, Scotland

In fact, the gown was Kate's second winning look -- and second movie! -- of the day. Earlier Monday she looked lovely in a patterned Tabitha Webb number for a screening of "Shaun The Sheep," attended by children connected to charities supported by the royal family.

Two movies in one day? These folks are truly living the dream.

Check out more photos from the "Spectre" red carpet below:

Nothing is more '90s than Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love.

On Saturday, "Dancing with the Stars" pro Mark Ballas and his girlfriend Brittany Jean Carlson gave us a blast from the past as they dressed up as the late Nirvana frontman and the Hole rocker for Maxim magazine's Halloween party in Beverly Hills.

The pair did a pretty decent job recreating the former couple's 1993 MTV Video Music Awards looks, though they opted not to bring their own baby Frances Bean to the party.

Other celebs at the costume bash included Nick Jonas as The Hamburglar, Aubrey O'Day as Cruella de Vil, and Karrueche Tran as a Playboy bunny:

Why Sex Is Overrated and Love Is the New Black

$
0
0
It all starts from the moment you lay eyes on her. Apparently, you've all of three seconds from that point to leave your mark... smile... approach... say something! From then on it's a quest, which, for some, will end almost instantly -- their first words unfortunately birthing their last. Others, however, will successfully graduate to the next stage, strolling into the "what's your name? age? job?" interrogation, but yet still fall at the final hurdle -- No number... No Pin (I'm old school!). And then there are the lucky ones, call them the charmers... players... brothers with a little game... now they conquer. But what next? A few raunchy messages followed by a steamy late night conversation or two... First Date... Second... First kiss... Mind blowing sex? That's what you see in the movies right?

As clichéd as this scenario may be, it's one that never ceases to make me chuckle. Unlike the constant horde of glorified images and sexual innuendoes that we are bombarded with every day via the media or even the embellished banter that happens to strike up at lunch with the girls in the staff canteen, sex in real life just isn't the same -- try taking it down a FEW pegs! I mean, the woman that swears she always has multiple orgasms, or the guy that boasts that he'll last till 6 in the morning... Really? Ok, I confess, I do, but that's a whole other convo!

I'd be lying if I told you that I loathed the act -- not in the slightest. It's a blessing to be able to cradle in the arms of the one you love and experience the heights of pleasure and intimacy that sex can bring to a relationship. But unless there is anything substantial between the pair of you, just like the high of a drug or the intoxication of alcohol, the euphoria will simply last for a while and with time eventually subside. Hence why the feelings of remorse often kick into play the moment he's turned over and shut his eyes. For many, the most distressing fact is that sex will usually signal the beginning of the end. It's as if all the spoken words, hours consumed, pennies spent up until those precious three minutes of elation slowly grind to a halt afterwards.

Which begs the question -- if it's only going to be a temporary bliss that will inevitably leave us feeling discontent later -- why? Was it worth it? The LBD, the fresh trim, your unpaid phone bill? How about your purity? Or, in some instances, your sanity? Heck, your life!

So as I was shaping up my bald patch at the barber shop a number of years back, the subject of women came up -- a novelty. In my naivety, I regretfully interjected, suggesting that maybe sex was a little overrated, that maybe their recollections of events were somewhat distorted, a few numbers and timescales inflated, that sort of thing. "You're clearly just not doing it right," one joked, the others laughed. I joined in the heckles for face sake, but within, something stirred, a rippling effect, as feelings of inadequacy and doubt began to pulsate from my core. I guess boys will always be boys, but with years gone by -- a ring on the finger, a little more mileage on the clock -- I'd like to think that things might just go a little deeper than that.

I'm no guru, but I have come to realise that when we have sex with another person we communicate with them in a number of ways -- physically with our bodies, emotionally with our hearts and spiritually with our souls. [Note: Theologians and Pharisees, please fall back!]

Sex is everywhere. It sells everything. Everything from the 10-packed freak on the front cover of MensHealth claiming that he has the '5 keys to give her the big O', to the melting yolk of my Cadbury's crème egg. There is clearly no shortage of exposure to what sex is in its physical form. And from time to time, things do even out somewhat, as the Drakes and the [insert your favorite female R&B singer here]'s -- think I'll choose Drake again -- of this world let us into some of love's emotional side effects. However, aside from the weekly debates at the Christian Union fellowships that I sparsely attended during my uni days, I rarely heard much, if anything, about a spiritual connotation. Though Pastor did warn us to abstain. Simply, "God said so!" And at age 13, I cringed as mother sat me down to fill me in on the birds and the bees. The conversation was brief. "You're a man now?" she patronised, adopting that localised Lagosian twang, before proceeding to tell me that sex before marriage was a grotesque sin, and that all sinners went to hell. "Heaven's forbid that you get a girl pregnant!" she harped. Well, I guess I failed on both counts then!

So, grasping the three voices of sex -- the physical, emotional and spiritual -- can go a long way to achieving the ultimate climax in a relationship. The physical is definitely a key ingredient in this trio, but even the best sex won't make up for a dead relationship that seriously lacks in every other department.

I know the whole settling down with kids and the detached suburban house dream doesn't appeal to all, but how many more hearts will be broken? How many more sores need to break out? And how many more blameless fetuses will we unjustly abort, before we begin to realise that it's all just vanity? Trust me. Minus the sores, I've been there.

In reality, things aren't clear cut; it's all a lot easier said than done. "I'm still young, let me live," one says, whilst another interjects, "I'm just having a little fun, I ain't hurting nobody." And I'm sure there are plenty of guys (and girls) out there who would agree. Many of whom will continue to tout the bars and restaurants this evening, squandering their wages, all in the hope that they'll be able to bag a suitor for the night. But what next? I guess we can always do the same again next weekend, right? We'll recite the same lyrics and fritter away even more cash, repeating the cycle, only to become appalled all over again.

But we only live once, right? And who am I to judge? As they say in this world, each to their own!

13 Celebratory Photos That Show Moms' Bodies Are Miraculous

$

Fed up with a culture that celebrates moms who "get their pre-baby bodies back" and fails to embrace the changes women undergo during pregnancy and birth, fashion designer Mallorie Dunn decided to combat this phenomenon.

Earlier this month, Dunn launched #MiracleMomBods, an ad campaign for her body-positive clothing line SmartGlamour. "We live in a society where women’s bodies are obsessed over, objectified, scrutinized. Our bodies are held to an unachievable (sans five percent of us) standard which forgets the fact that bodies change, grow, and age," the designer wrote in a blog post about the campaign.

"We live in a society where #DadBod became an overnight sensation -- celebrating men for depicting the average, everyday version of themselves -- when that is the last thing we would accept women to be," she added.

For the new ad campaign, Dunn photographed mothers in customize SmartGlamour outfits to celebrate #MiracleMomBods" -- regardless of size, shape, age, weight, height, style, etc." This is an underlying message behind the clothing line, which is available in sizes ranging from XXS to 6X and beyond," she told The Huffington Post.

Dunn has also worked to spread body positivity and empowerment through previous SmartGlamour campaigns, such as #SameSizeDifferentEyes and #AllBodiesAreGoodBodies. With the #MiracleMomBods campaign, the designer invites other moms to join in the conversation and post their own photos on social media.

Dunn told HuffPost that the campaign was inspired in part by her sister Meredith, who is a mother herself and believes in the importance of self-care and self-love. "I also wanted to make a point about women's bodies -- that they are ever changing, and not the definition of our worth as individuals. Our goal should not have to be to get our body 'back' to something it used to be," she said, citing Kerry Washington's notable motherhood quote about not wanting to return her "pre-miracle" body.

Ultimately, Dunn hopes people who see the #MiracleMomBods campaign come away with a greater appreciation for mothers as unique individuals with self worth. "I hope that people start to think about and talk about the ridiculous expectations we place on women and their bodies -- and realize how detrimental that can be," she said. "And learn to accept that our worth is not tied into our appearance -- and one step further -- our health."

8 Intimate Photos That Show The Beauty Of Aging Hands

A woman's hands can tell the world a lot about the life she's lived. The way she keeps and carries her hands throughout her life is highly personal -- callouses, freckles, go-to gestures and injuries all tell their own stories.

Like the rest of a woman's body, her hands change with time. With each passing day, the stories they tell become more detailed, more nuanced to personal experiences. They become the physical manifestation of a woman's strength and achievements, and the result can be stunning.

Eleanor Roosevelt once remarked, "Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art." Take a look at an older woman's hands and you'll see just that.

Need proof? The Huffington Post photographed the hands of eight women over the age of 75 to showcase the diverse lives they've lived and the hands that carried them through it all.

9 Items For Your Closet That Come Straight From The Ballet Studio

It's not entirely childish to be in love with ballerinas. They're so elegant and poised -- and don't even get us started on their ballet buns and leg warmers. While we may never be able to dance quite like them, that doesn't mean we can't look like them, right?

If you're like us, and your dance career ended at the ripe age of five, all is not lost. You can still dress like a ballerina without looking like you've got a few screws loose. Dance stores like Capezio, Danskin and Repetto offer items that work not only in the dance studio, but also in real life. You can easily throw on a leotard with a pair of jeans or wear a sweater with a simple skirt.

Herewith, nine items that will leave you looking like you just stepped off stage.

The Anatomy Of A Taylor Swift Outfit

We can count on Taylor Swift for a lot of things: Amazing albums, killer (or whatever) dance moves and crop tops. There is no denying her prolific music career and her teen-frenzied concerts, but today we want to talk about her sense of style. The girl loves to show off her midriff, and over the past couple of months (or dare we say, years) we have noticed a pattern ...

The girl loves crop tops and high-waisted bottoms. (We only recently discovered she has a belly button.) In fact, it's difficult to find her in anything BUT that.

We went through hundreds of Getty photos to prove our theory, and it turns out, we were right.

Just take a look for yourself...

Not enough proof for you? Here are some more.

What's that, you say? Still not enough?

OK seriously, that's enough.

Scents and Sensibilities: A Few Highlights from Pitti Fragranze

2015-10-27-1445946756-212297-Fragranze13038.jpg

The model turned perfumer Annick Goutal, a legend of the scent world, once wrote "perfume is the music of my dream." Perhaps there is no other art that brings us back to a place and time quite like the olfactory art and yet perfume isn't limited to memories alone. It deserves its own top place in the firmament of wearable art.

I found out at this year's Pitti Fragranze, a labyrinth of the best the scent world has to offer held inside the atmospheric Stazione Leopolda, that I've been somewhat wrong all these years to pine for long lost loves and far away times when I smell a scent that reminds of an ex or of my childhood. Yes, perfume can and will do that, but it's the scent of imagination and wonder than give it the honors it deserves. As a stand-alone, one of a kind, truly magnificent art form.

The person responsible for this newfound mindset when I look at -- better yet, when I smell -- a fragrance, is NY Times "nose" Chandler Burr. Burr is a perfume historian, a journalist who has been the scent critic for the NY Times, and a curator of the olfactory art. Based in NYC, Burr travels all over the world, partly in search of fantastic new scents but mostly to enlighten his fellow human beings on the true art of perfume.

In all his kindness, he let me sit in on an interview he was having with a fashion editor on the phone from NYC, while the woman pushed for him to reveal his ideas of the "best new trends" in fragrance. With class and grace, he answered by saying, "I was a perfume journalist at the Times, not a beauty writer. I didn't focus on trends and brands, marketing doesn't play any role for me at all. I've always held a different position from most of the people who deal with perfume."

2015-10-27-1445946801-5826964-OggettidArte009.jpg

Perhaps meeting Burr, pictured above on the right, was such a revelation to me because he is intent on having the art of making scents recognized as any other art form today, particularly cinema, which he equates most easily with the olfactory art. He explained that, "when I first began at the NY Times what I found most insulting was this idea that perfume cannot be art because it's sold. Cinema is created as an art form and it's not just Avatar or Dumb and Dumber." He continued, "even Her, one of my favorite films of the last year, is made for commercial means. It's meant to be watched, to be seen by as many people as possible."

Most groundbreaking, and perhaps going a bit against every idea I had formed about fragrance until meeting him, is Burr's mantra of, "scent as something different from smell." Again he came to my rescue by explaining generously, "smell can invoke memories, like when you step into the Paris metro or off a plane in Bombay, but scent is an art form. And we lack the terminology to speak of it that way, the lack of the right words -- but it doesn't mean it shouldn't be treated as such." Burr's curated exhibit titled "Art Objects: Shape, Color, Scent" featuring works of art ranging from the 1800's to today, coupled with scents as diverse as classic rose and bubblegum was the proverbial ribbon to tie it all together -- this idea that scent is indeed an art form. Albeit one that is so perfectly accessible, turning women into ladies and men into superheroes, with just one spritz.

Another idea that really stayed with me after this year's Pitti Fragranze was the concept of perfume impersonating some of our favorite foods, our beloved movie stars, even as a complimentary accessory to fashion and film. No, it wasn't like this funny bout of vandalism Johnny Depp's campaign for Dior suffered on the streets of the UK, and featured in the Tweet below. This was more about reinventing and offering an interpretation that, while completely wearable and pleasant to our olfactory sense, could inspire the wearers to think one step further, with their noses. I know, it's hard to understand but bear with me as I take you with me down the rabbit hole of scent.

One of the most courageous incarnations of this idea is Gabriella Chieffo's Ragù and Variazione di Ragù, two scents the Italian perfumer calls "olfactory provocations" inspired by that Sunday meat sauce that Italians love so much, the ragù. In a traditional Italian home, particularly in the south, the sauce would be simmering for at least a day, wafting throughout the home and changing as it intensifies. Add to that the token smell of cigarette smoke, the various colognes and perfumes worn by the family members who come in and out before the midday banquet, the wine uncorked, the scent of wood from the furniture, maybe even a little sprinkle of dusty wax and you get the idea of what Ragù -- the perfume -- smells like. It's a powerful concept this idea of reinventing smells we think we are accustomed to and love, to extract from them scents we can proudly wear as our signature perfume.

2015-10-27-1445946873-2680476-GCP_variazioni_bg_chiaro_mr.jpeg

And while on the subject of signature perfumes, Pitti Fragranze, or actually any fragrance show around the world, would not be complete without the presence of the Intertrade Group. With what seemed like a complete city made up of their brands, they presented a show within a show titled "Unscent Land". The powers that be behind the perfume superpower -- including President and Fragrance Curator Celso Fadelli, VP and Creative Director Cristiano Seganfreddo and Design Director Alessio Avventuroso -- called "Unscent Land" a bit tongue in cheek "an olfactory amusement park" and within it I really felt like a child in a candy store. Surrounded by some of their bestsellers I was introduced to the wonders that are Diane Pernet Paris and Blood Concept, among many many more.

Diane Pernet_Mike Figgis_FILMS from Staff Intertrade on Vimeo.

Diane Pernet Paris is the olfactory love child of Diane Pernet, the queen of fashion bloggers. To her pioneering spirit, all of us who have ever gone online to talk about fashion and style owe the world. American-born and Paris-based, Pernet has been on the frontline of a movement that has forever changed style journalism. She also runs the A Shaded View of Fashion Film Festival, now in it's eighth year, which will kick off on December 2nd at the Centre Pompidou, and where she annually showcases fashion films like this one featured above, made for her by director Mike Figgis.

The lovely duo behind Blood Concept, Antonio Zuddas and Giovanni Castelli are also guys after my own heart. Their fragrances are hip and cool like them and they have a video to show for it. While this strange dance between a man and a woman didn't really do it for me at first, it has really grown on me and now I see it as the explanation of what the multiple layers that make up a fragrance really do.

While the first layer may get you interested, like the raw sensuality of this video does, you then need the middle note to draw you in, to really make you an aficionado, a lover. And with the bottom note, a scent's true foundation, you get hooked for life, or until another, better, more enticing fragrance comes along. See, it's just like any romance after all, this love story with scent.... You can watch the film below, or at Pernet's ASVOFF festival in December.

The first-ever InStyle Awards were hosted in Los Angeles Monday night, and a slew of stylish actresses, models and fashion folk stepped out for the occasion.

The star-studded event, which honored Gwyneth Paltrow as Style Icon and Zoe Kravitz as Best Dressed Breakthrough, among others, featured a lot of white dresses, some plunging necklines and of course, Kim Kardashian in a cape. She, of course, shared a few snaps from the event to Instagram.

Kate Hudson, who presented the award to her friend Paltrow, shared a snap or three from the event, too. Seeing as the event was hosted by a fashion magazine, it's only fitting that the style was so on point. Check out some of our favorite looks below.

In Tuesday's Lenny Letter, the "Girls" star recalls All Hallows' Eve past, in which she costumed herself as a "fancy lady," Medusa, a leopard, a mermaid, and even Louis C.K.

Some of these costumes turned out better than others, but this year, Dunham has a very specific and noble costume in mind.

After detailing all her Halloween "failure," Dunham writes, "I want to be accepted and to WIN BIG! And this year, I think I may have finally nailed it. I’m going as something newsy, sexy, and cool: a Planned Parenthood doctor!"

The 29-year-old is a vocal advocate for Planned Parenthood. In October, she showed up at the Planned Parenthood Champion of Choice event in a sweater with an image of the female reproductive system, which she ended up "spontaneously" auctioning off for $4,000 in support of the organization.

Similarly, in a 2014 interview with Vanity Fair, Dunham said she considers the men and women who work at Planned Parenthood centers across the country to be her real-life heroes.

Transgender Model Wins 'Holland's Next Top Model'

Loiza Lamers, a transgender model, won "Holland's Next Top Model" on Monday, making her the first transgender winner of the "Top Model" franchise.

Lamers, a 20-year-old former hairdresser, reportedly kept her gender identity a secret from the show's producers until she had been cast as one of the competitors on the show, according to Dutch news outlet De Gelderlander.

She said she didn't tell others about her transgender identity because she didn't want it to effect her progress in the competition. But due to Internet rumors she went public about her transition after the show aired, she said, and she has received overwhelmingly positive responses.

While transgender models have been featured across the "Top Model" franchise, with Isis King from cycle 11 and cycle 17 of the U.S. version of the show, Lamers is the first to actually win the competition.

“I’m really at a point where I can say I am very proud to be transgender,” Lamers said to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. “For me [being on Holland's Next Top Model] is a reward for my transition.”

Cara Delevingne Is Unrecognizable As Enchantress On Empire Cover

We got our first look at Cara Delevingne as Enchantress in May, when "Suicide Squad" director David Ayer shared a photo of nearly the entire cast in full costume. Then fans were permitted another -- very brief -- look at her in the film's first trailer, released in July:

While the 23-year-old model-turned-actress looked a little grungier than we're used to seeing her in the trailer, she's totally unrecognizable while in character on the cover of Empire magazine.

On Tuesday, Delevingne shared the magazine cover with her fans on Instagram and wrote, "Making my own rules #Enchantress#SuicideSquad."

According to the fansite ComicBookMovie, Delevingne opened up to the magazine about her character June Moone, who becomes possessed by the spirit of Enchantress.

"June is an adventure seeker who's always wanted some excitement," she told Empire."And she gets what she wished for, but in a terrible way. At the start of the movie she discovers a cavern and finds ... something ...within."

The actress went on to describe her character's alter-ego as "an ancient sorceress. A feral being. She's been trapped for so long and know she's finally let out."

Meanwhile, Delevingne is just one of the stars of "Suicide Squad" to cover the magazine. On Monday, Empire released their cover of Jared Leto as the Joker and it seems that more covers will be revealed before the magazine hits stands on Thursday.

Duchess Kate Hits An Unexpected High Fashion Note In Floral Erdem

Good things come to those who wait watch the Duchess of Cambridge's every move.

Kate arrived at a gala at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London Tuesday night in what feels like her zillionthoutfitof theweek. Stepping out of her comfort zone and into a bold floral Erdem dress ($4,650) with a giant ruffled bottom, she pleasantly surprised fans used to her typically conservative style.

The appearance comes on the heels of a whirlwind of public events, including a state dinner, a visit to Scotland and even a night out on the town at the premiere of "Spectre" Monday night.

An avid outfit repeater, Kate typically plays it safe for events like this. We're so excited to see her in a riskier look -- or as "risky" as a duchess will get, anyway.
