Pamela Anderson said bye, bye to her famous long locks last month and now, it appears she's dyed her blond hair.

The 46-year-old bombshell debuted her brunette pixie cut as she made her way through LAX airport on Sunday night (Dec. 1), according to X17online.com. Although her hairstyle was hidden under a big gray hat, it was obvious that Anderson's platinum blond locks were replaced with a new brown 'do.

After running the New York City Marathon a few weeks ago, Anderson stopped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" to explain her changing looks.

"I just thought my hair had had a ‘life,’” she told DeGeneres of her decision to chop her hair off. “And I wanted to put that behind me and start fresh, and I thought it would be good for the marathon. And it was!”

December might be here, but Paris Hilton is miles away from the cold weather, yucking it up in a bikini in Dubai.

On Tuesday, the hotel heiress posted photos to her Instagram account that were snapped during her holiday in the Middle East. In the pics, Hilton wears a leopard print bikini top and matching sarong as she lounges poolside and on a sandy beach at the One&Only The Palm resort on the Palm Jumeirah, an artificial archipelago on the coast of Dubai.

"Dubai is my new Hawaii," she wrote.

The 32-year-old showcased her DJing skills on Sunday when she performed at Dubai's Cavalli Club, according to Gulf News. On Monday, she headed to the Arabian Centre to promote her new handbag line, Rouge by Paris Hilton.

How Nailing Hollywood Is Nailing the Celebrity Mani

By Kathryn Romeyn, Pret-a-Reporter

Nail art might not seem like a heavy subject. In fact, the thought of anything but a classic red nail or a simple stroke of flesh-colored polish may conjure images of tacky airbrushed acrylics -- and all that they imply. But now, nary an Oscar nominee or small-screen starlet can sashay down a red carpet without elaborate nail art stamped on her talons. Statement-making nails and gallery-quality handiwork are now so pervasive that no major step-and-repeat is complete without a "mani cam" (a tiny runway where celebrities strut their nails for the camera), and the hashtag "nailart" has more than 6 million photos on Instagram. With the countless dedicated blogs, lacquer launches (including the gel revolution) and new specialty salons cropping up every month everywhere from Beverly Hills to London, nail art is way past fad status.

Which is something Angelenos Jenna Hipp and Vanessa Gualy noticed last year, when they turned Nailing Hollywood, their five-year-old beauty product development consultancy, into a niche editorial and business agency for L.A.'s most in-demand manicurists. Their goal? "To represent the industry's top talent and create looks that would change and evolve the nail landscape via our work on set," says agent and co-founder Gualy. "Our focus was razor-sharp: We wanted to create stunning nails -- gorgeous, coveted nails that could stand alone as beauty, as accessories, as jewelry and as art."

Although celebrity editorial manicurists have long been booked for photo shoots and had their business development affairs handled by top agencies including The Wall Group, Cloutier and Celestine, Nailing Hollywood is the first bunch of "ten-percenters" to focus solely on nail artists with no trace of a stylist or groomer in sight.

I'm finding myself drawn to menswear designers these days. The look and the feel of menswear brands encompass a cool ease traditionally not felt in womenswear. However, as a woman, who enjoys promoting her femininity, I also need a brand that fits my curves and my personality. So where do they meet, that intersection between ease, authenticity and feminine energy?

Scrolling through Instagram I came across one of my favorite menswear brands sketching womenswear, Public School NYC. With this news I'm sensing a bit of a shift in womenswear in the near future. Will my hope of a more laid back and authentic feel be translated through this brand and line? I sure hope so.

With the subliminal announcement of Public School NYC's womenswear line, I began to think through other designers and lines that successfully design both mens and womenswear. Designers like Richard Chai, who consistently provide mens and womens pieces that compliment each other. The marriage between each of his garments reminds me of a great relationship, easy, just enough structure and complimentary.

Chai's line is not overpowering and gives just the right amount of detail. This is what has set him apart season after season. He successfully translates a sophisticated yet effortless feel when designing for both men and women. Just take a look at his last collection, Spring 2014. Chai designed for a woman that doesn't want to over think what she is wearing while still looking well put together. Chai's thoughts for his menswear were consistent. He designs for a man and woman who want to walk through life being able to jump in and out of various circles. Their focus, functionality and comfort while still appreciating the beauty of each garment they put on.

'Disabled' Mannequins Remind Us That Beautiful Doesn't Mean 'Perfect' (VIDEO)

$

It's no secret that the smooth, plastic bodies staring out of store windows aren't true physical replicas of the people who stare back at them. But there's no reason they can't be.

Pro Infirmis, an organization for the disabled, created a series of mannequins based on real people with physical disabilities, working with individuals like Jasmine Rechsteiner, a Miss Handicap winner who has spine malformations, and Erwin Aljukić, an actor with brittle bone disease. The project's title? "Because Who Is Perfect? Get Closer."

The beautiful process was documented in a video (watch it above), capturing the joy of the models seeing their own unique figures recreated for the first time. But the best part of it all is that the mannequins were actually placed in store windows today, filling the shopfronts on Zurich's main downtown street, Bahnhofstrasse, in honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilities today.

"Seeing it there for real is quite a shock," said one of the video participants. And that's exactly the point. Raising awareness of those with disabilities, specifically in the realm of fashion, is a conversation that's already begun with groups such as Models of Diversity, which aims to bring models of all shapes, sizes and colors to the fashion runways and media.

Outspoken individuals like Kelly Knox, the winner of BBC's "Britain's Missing Top Model," and Angela Rockwood, who returned to her modeling career with a Nordstrom campaign after becoming a C4-5 quadriplegic, have also made their voices known.

Some stores have made concerted efforts to include body diversity, including those with disabilities, in their ads. Nordstrom has been doing so since 1991, while British department store Debenhams made headlines earlier this year with a Spring 2013 look book that featured a woman who was an amputee.

It's still an uphill battle to make the mannequins in our store windows reflect the shoppers passing by. But "Because Who Is Perfect? Get Closer" and the Swiss stores who participated prove that it can definitely be done.

Watch the video above.

New Stress-Detecting Bra Meant To Curb Overeating

$

This is not a joke: Microsoft Research is developing a bra that can detect stress, with the hope of preventing emotionally-triggered overeating in women. "Because what's more tragic than a woman who feeds her feelings and sabotages her perfect physique?," Grub Street rightly appeals.

Sensors in the prototype bra measure a woman's heart rate, respiration, skin conductance and movement, and send the data to a smartphone app. These physical symptoms are supposed to indicate mood, which a woman can track to see how her emotional state corresponds with overeating.

The bra is a result of a study called "Food and Mood: Just-in-Time Support for Emotional Eating," authored by researchers from Microsoft Research, the University of Rochester and the University of Southampton. The study set out to develop an intervention before someone reaches for food as a means of emotional support.

As Discovery News reports, up to 50 percent of Americans complain about overeating in response to stress, and Mary Czerwinski, a researcher from Microsoft and author of the study, believes "it's mostly women who are emotional overeaters."

The paper defines "emotional eating" as any time you eat that is not physiologically required. Some of the instinctive reasons we may reach for food -- like the "food scarcity mentality" that sets in at a buffet, which prompts us to take more than we need at the time -- can be superfluous in our modern lives where food is abundant. Stress can also prompt an instinctive "fight or flight response" which could cause us to reach for a dense, high-energy food -- like a doughnut. The researchers suggest these instinctive patterns, can be relearned with the help of technology, like their bra and matching app.

Barring the fact that a "just-in-time support system" sounds like an advertisement for Depends, would you wear a bra that is supposed to prevent you from stress-eating?

Joan Smalls Gets Glam For Elle's First Cover Of 2014 And Talks Fashion Diversity (PHOTOS)

Elle is ringing in the New Year with Joan Smalls!

The glossy has deemed the 25-year-old beauty "the future of fashion," and we couldn't agree more. While magazine covers are increasingly reserved for Hollywood starlets, Elle has bucked that trend for its January 2014 issue in favor of featuring the world's #1 model -- and a black one at that!

SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTOS

This is definitely a big win in terms of diversity, considering the fashion industry has been struggling with a major race problem -- an issue that Joan has faced despite her success.

“People hide behind the word aesthetic. They say, ‘Well, it’s just that designer’s aesthetic.’ But when you see 18 seasons in a row and not one single model outside a certain skin color…? There are people in the industry who are advocates, who support diversity. And there are people who do not. I don’t get it," Joan told Elle. "Beauty is universal. These doors have to open.”

While Elle's French counterpart is dealing with some Blackface backlash, the American edition of the magazine has been making some major moves when it comes to diversity lately. Aside from ringing in the New Year with Joan, Elle was the first major fashion glossy to feature Kerry Washington on the cover.

This marks Joan's first cover for Elle, but we're sure it won't be her last.

During a celebration for the January cover on Tuesday night, editor-in-chief Robbie Myers said, “Joan is an Elle girl in every way -- she’s smart, charming, fit and totally in charge of what’s going on in her own life.”

Head on over to Elle.com for the full story and you can pick up the issue when it hits newsstands on December 17.

Beyonce posted a series of bikini shots from her recent holiday in Jamaica and brought some heat to this chilly December.

The superstar songstress recently went away with her family for some R&R on the Caribbean island. She posted snapshots of the picturesque scenery, the local cuisine and their paddle-boarding adventures. She also posted photos of herself in some bikinis.

In the photos, Beyonce can be seen wearing a purple printed bikini with high-waisted bottoms while lounging on the beach. In others, she rocks a metallic one-shouldered two-piece while she climbs a tree.

The 32-year-old stayed at the Trident Port Antonio Hotel, a luxury property featuring oceanfront villas, according to the Jamaica Observer. She was also spotted checking out the recording studios in Geejam.

It was just announced that she and husband Jay Z will be going vegan for 22 days. The rapper explained it's a spiritual and physical challenge.

Turning Fine Hair Fab: Easy Tips and Tricks for Addressing Fine Hair

$
0
0
"If I can't control my hair, how can I control my life?" This is a motto stitched on a pillow that sits in the waiting area of my studio where I help women restore their hair, and it rings true for so many! Throughout history and present day, hair is a woman's crowning glory, a symbol of beauty and a stranger's first impression. When it begins to thin, it is usually devastating to one's self-esteem.

Thankfully in this day and age we are armed with an array of options to work with whatever hair we DO have, and even long-term solutions that can completely disguise finer areas and provide hope for regrowth. There are a few things that we can make part of our lifestyle and daily grooming habits that will positively impact our hair and therefore our self-esteem.

- For starters, don't be scared to brush your hair! Too many of us brush our hair less and less the finer it gets, and that's the worst thing you could do. Brushing your hair stimulates the oxygen in the scalp and helps hair keep its body. The same goes for washing: it's a myth that washing your hair causes hair loss. All that "extra hair" you see in the drain is simply the hair you've shed since your last washing that has built up over time. In fact, skipping a wash can hinder growth if grime builds up on your scalp!

- Be sure to nourish your tresses from within, too. Take vitamins and minerals that will support your hair growth and remember it takes time to see results. It is best to consult with your doctor on what will work best for you, and this information can even be determined with blood work. Eating a well-rounded diet filled with iron, beta carotene, folate and vitamins A and C will prove beneficial for your hair. Some good foods to incorporate into your meals are various nuts, spinach, halibut, carrots and Greek yogurt.

- When it comes to styling, there are two simple tricks that will be your secret weapons. To hide tell-tale thinning areas where hair is fine, try hair makeup. There are a range of colors to suit most shades of hair. For example, Fullmore comes in a variety of colors and can be lightly sprayed on your scalp, avoiding hair beyond the root. This will completely disguise thinning hair where density in the crown is an issue.

- When your hair is fine and delicate, backcombing is a surefire way of spreading it around and making it look voluminous. Avoid combs as they intensify the hair at the root but make the ends look feather-like. Use a good bristle brush and begin at the tip brushing down toward the root. This spreads out the hair without clumping it at the roots and can double the appearance of your hair. What's especially great about this method is it's easy to brush out without breaking and damaging your hair at the end of the day. Give it a light hair spray afterward, which will keep it in place and stop it from flying away so it doesn't look wispy.

Most importantly and above all keep a good mental attitude. If you dwell on your fine hair you may as well kiss the rest of it goodbye! With just a few lifestyle changes, a positive outlook and a couple of foolproof styling tricks, women with fine hair can begin to feel in control once again.

Christy Turlington's Harper's Bazaar UK Cover Isn't Her Best (PHOTO)

Trust us, we adore Christy Turlington as much as the next supermodel enthusiast. But we just can't get behind her latest cover for Harper's Bazaar UK.

The ageless beauty covers the January 2014 issue of the British magazine, donning a plain solid dress like nobody's business (a nod to the model's knack for '90s minimalism, perhaps?). Aside from the on-point, pared-down styling, Christy's pose and facial expression just strike us as a little... awkward.

Like we said, she's gorgeous, perfect, inspiring, etc. But as far as this cover goes, do you see what we mean by "awkward"?

15 Catalogs That Make Us Nostalgic For Mail-Order Fashion

One of our fondest childhood memories is lying on the floor with a stack of catalogs and colorful markers. (This was also how our moms kept us us out of their hair.)

We get teary-eyed just remembering the smell of the JCPenney catalogs and how we'd circle all the clothes we wanted the mailman to deliver right away.

Mail order catalogs was how our shopping addictions got started. We've since graduated to outlet malls and online shopping. But as holiday shopping season roll around and we get nostalgic for the Sears Wish Book, we'd like to pay homage to some of the most unforgettable catalogs.

Things Got Ugly At This Victoria's Secret On Black Friday

These Victoria's Secret shoppers were no angels.

Two women are being sought by police after allegedly attacking a 17-year-old at a Victoria's Secret in the Westfield Annapolis (Md.) Mall on Black Friday.

The incident, which happened around 12:30 a.m., was captured on video by a bystander, and the footage has now gone viral. Anne Arundel County Police are searching for what they're calling "persons of interest" from the images.

"We're getting some tips in, as we expected," Lt. T.J. Smith told The Huffington Post.

Based on what authorities know so far, the two women could face charges of second degree assault, disorderly conduct and potentially reckless endangerment, Smith said.

The 17-year-old alleged victim said the two women accused her of assaulting one of them. And that's when the melee erupted, with one woman punching her first, and another following with more blows, she told police.

Authorities are still trying to piece together the full sequence of events. "People are focused on the video, but the video only shows so much," Smith said.

For reaction to the brawl and isolated images of the two women sought by police, check out the WJLA segment below.
