The Media Has Been Very Hypocritical About The Celebrity Nude Photo Hack, But It's Trying To Change

$

0
Five years ago, you'd be hard-pressed to find a major news outlet shaming you for looking at hacked nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence or the other famous women whose private property was stolen from them and shared online.

When Perez Hilton launched in 2004 and TMZ quickly followed in 2005, a new kind of celebrity-obsessed culture developed. Since then, you've been compelled to "LOOK, LOOK, LOOK" every time a celebrity falls, has a wardrobe malfunction or when their nude photos suddenly appear on the Internet.

This past week, we saw a different conversation emerge. The media stood up for Lawrence in a way we hadn't really seen before: Many writers explained that she was not to blame; this was not a scandal, and you should probably be ashamed of yourself for looking at stolen personal property.

Forbes declared: "Jennifer Lawrence Nude Photo Leak Isn't A 'Scandal.' It's A Sex Crime."

HuffPost Women reminded us: "Jennifer Lawrence's Leaked Nude Photos Remind Us How Crappy The Internet Can Be For Women."

Slate announced: "'Don't Take Nude Selfies,' Shrug It Off, and Other Gross Advice for Hacked Celebs."

E! said: "Everyone Needs to Stop Blaming Jennifer Lawrence and the Other Celebs for the Nude Photo Scandal."

Vox explained: "It's Not Just Jennifer Lawrence: Women In Pop Culture Are Under Attack."

BuzzFeed proclaimed: "Those Jennifer Lawrence Pictures Aren’t Scandalous."

And after all that, it turns out there are a lot of people who don't want to be told they should feel bad about looking at Lawrence's naked body, or Kate Upton's, or Victoria Justice's, or McKayla Maroney's, who it turns out was likely underage when her photos were taken.

Along with 4chan, Reddit's "The Fappening" and "Fappening" were the major threads for sharing hacked photos, and its members have been closely following the media coverage in the days since the leak (Reddit finally banned the groups on Sept. 6, nearly a full week after they were formed and had already delivered millions upon millions of pageviews). Not surprisingly, these Redditors aren't fond of Gizmodo referring to them as "snot-gobbling basement dwellers," and they don't appreciate the collective shaming, since they believe the media is nothing more than a big hypocrite. What's worse: They kind of have a point.

It has been posited that perhaps the media's response to this specific hacking would not have been so sympathetic if it happened to a less beloved and respected celebrity. These kinds of hackings have been going on for years, but it took someone hacking America's sweetheart for people to speak out and recognize that this kind of incident isn't a scandal; it's a theft and maybe even a sex crime.

This was not the conversation that was had two years ago when Scarlett Johansson's nude photos were hacked and posted online along with many other stars. While Christopher Chaney, the man found guilty of nine counts of computer hacking and wiretapping, did face serious consequences (he's currently serving 10 years in prison for his crimes), there wasn't the same moral outrage reserved for those who looked at the hacked photos, nor was there as much sympathy for the victims of the hack.

But Redditors are calling the media out (specifically this very website) for being hypocritical because we cover celebrity news.

On Sept. 2, Stephen Colbert took aim at the hacking on his show: "I stand with the Huffington Post, which posted a searing Op-Ed shaming anyone who looked at or shared these photos. So do not -- I mean that -- do not go look at these photos. Instead, go look at the sideboob and nip-slips at HuffPost's actual 'Sideboob' page."

Yes, The Huffington Post has a Sideboob page (which is simply a collection of tagged stories, not a vertical dedicated to sideboob, as previously reported. Thanks). Also, HuffPost hasn't written about sideboob since January, because sideboob is so over. But in all seriousness, there is an ongoing conversation regarding our celebrity coverage at HuffPost Entertainment, and sideboob is something we are no longer interested in writing about.

Redditors also wanted to highlight the apparent gender hypocrisy between the coverage of leaked photos. In fact, they directly pointed to a HuffPost article from 2010 covering NBA player Greg Oden's nude photos.

greg oden

Similarly, this was Deadspin's headline:
greg oden

And of course, Perez Hilton:
greg oden

HuffPost wouldn't run that headline if Oden's photos leaked today, nor would we run a poll asking readers their thoughts on his penis. Four years after publishing this article, our standards have changed. In Oden's case, he claimed an ex-girlfriend sent the photos to WorldStarHipHop. If we were to cover this today, perhaps it would be viewed as revenge porn, and we would have likely handled with more tact.

But another example that's being used to decry hypocrisy and sexism is that, just two days before the massive hack, 5 Seconds of Summer's Calum Hood sent a naked Snapchat video of his penis to a random fan, who in turn filmed the clip and uploaded it to Vine. It's fair to say this was treated with a more flippant attitude than perhaps it deserved, but Hood also tweeted jokingly right after it, writing, "Least ya know what it looks like now," and "I'm still just a teenage kid learning from mistakes :)." Where this differs from Lawrence's hack, however, (and this is a slippery slope of an argument) lies in the base expectations of privacy. Sending a naked video to a random fan on Snapchat is quite a bit different from a group of hackers plotting to break into a private account in search of nude photos. Still, whether it's Hood or Lawrence, you should probably feel equally as bad for looking.

It's hard to deny that male and female victims of photo leaks are treated differently, but the majority of the male celebrities have fallen victim to their exes rather than hackers. Regardless, it doesn't make it any better; they are still victims. The following image turned up on Imgur in the days after the hack and it's apparent that hypocrisy is a hot topic:

Hypocrites at Gawker Media

And it's not hard to understand why people are frustrated with messages that they shouldn't be looking at Lawrence's photos. BuzzFeed, for example, said "Those Jennifer Lawrence Pictures Aren’t Scandalous," and offered up "21 Photos Of Jennifer Lawrence You Should Look At Instead," but also previously published topless photos of Kate Middleton taken by paparazzi, as well as former Disney star Dylan Sprouse's leaked photos.

Yes, the hypocrisy is real. The media has been encouraging you to look at leaked photos for years. But it's also apparent that with this new round of hacking, it's a message the media would like to change.

What's not going to change, however, is covering celebrities news and culture in general. That doesn't make us hypocrites, as some have claimed.

Covering celebrity news/culture means writing about what Kim Kardashian is wearing in various locations. It means writing about who is rumored to be dating whom. And it means writing about sexy photos. But it's important to understand that it's all part of an ecosystem. Celebrities need press to promote their projects, and their projects require a celebrity behind them to be marketable. These are very symbiotic relationships.

Can writing about celebrities be invasive? Yes, there is no doubt, but again, there are some things we at HuffPost Entertainment and other news organizations have done to minimize that.

Months before Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard called for a boycott of magazine's that publish paparazzi photos of celebrity children, HuffPost Entertainment made an editorial decision to only publish photos of famous children shared by the parents themselves via social media accounts, or in a context of an official photo shoot done with parental approval.

Likewise, within the last year we also stopped purchasing paparazzi photos featuring stars without makeup where the sole purpose would be to direct attention to a celebrity that doesn't look red carpet-ready. Instead, we cover makeup-free photos that celebs have personally shared, because no one should feel bad about walking around in public just because they decided to let their skin breathe for a day.

But do we cover nude photos? Yes. Nude photos are most definitely a part of celebrity culture, and the media historically has covered all of them: Hacked nude photos. Leaked nude photos. Accidentally tweeted nude photos. And overly Photoshopped "nude" photos in magazines that aren't really nude photos. But if there is one thing that seems to have come out of "The Fappening," it's that at least some parts of the media finally seem ready to make a major shift to respect celebrity privacy on the most basic level, which is something that doesn't seem so hard to do.

The royal baby hysteria begins again!

Their Royal Highnesses are expecting a second child, and while everyone waits with bated breath to see the first photos of Kate Middleton's first ultra-chic pregnancy outfit, we're more curious to know how baby George feels about the whole thing.

The gregarious 1-year-old is not only extremely adorable, but quite the expressive toddler, too. The babe is also super sassy and charming (just like his father), so we're sure he has tons of new baby thoughts running through his brain. Here are all the things we'd like to think Lil' G has to say about his new baby brother or sister.

Nanette Lepore's Spring 2015 Show Includes A Special Model Surprise

It's not often that we see "regular" girls on the runway. But at Nanette Lepore's Spring/Summer 2015 show on Sunday night, it wasn't just models who strutted down the catwalk. The longtime NYFW veteran cast her 16-year-old daughter, Violet Savage, to close the show.

Violet has taken a bow with her mother every season, but this was the first time she actually walked the runway. Though she claimed to be "nervous and excited," she looked like a total pro -- the walking classes she took the day before clearly paid off.

The best part? Her big fashion debut wasn't arranged until days before the show. "Violet was in the Hamptons without me over Labor Day," Lepore explained. "And I missed her and thought, why doesn't she walk in the show?" At first Savage was hesitant, but "three minutes later, she said 'yes'."

When we caught up with the new model, she was chatting with a friend backstage while getting her nails done. Though she seemed in her element, she told HuffPost Style that she wasn't "seriously" pursuing a model career.

While Violet's runway debut was the highlight of the night, the rest of the show was also a great success. Inspired by the sky, sea and the South of France, the collection echoed the young and feminine aesthetic for which Lepore is known. Caftans, colorful swimwear and flirty dresses made their way down the catwalk and the entire show ended with a conga line featuring all the models, Lepore and her husband.

We wish all fashion shows were this fun.

Good Luxury: In Search of Style + Compassion

It recently struck me that the marriage of ethics and aesthetics in the premium segment of consumer goods seems to be considered a luxury too extravagant to indulge in by the fashion industry. While I truly appreciate items that combine impeccable craftsmanship with refined style, I also prefer to not adorn myself with products that were created from the suffering of other beings. There is no luxury in pain.

When I look at the Magnificent Miles of the world I see a lot of great design but also a lot of agony. The production of objects has turned into a mad machinery that doesn't care about the beings it renders into fabric. Auschwitz is being done to animals every day in the name of fashion.

I cannot be the only one who desires both fine design and expansive compassion. What would happen if the grand fashion houses opened up to new markets that demand love in addition to looks? What if they dared to step on the path of innovation and created goods that are good for people, planet and animals? What would need to happen to galvanize the big players into using materials like future leather that doesn't kill but rather saves the environment?

The time is ripe for disruption.

If consumers had a choice between the same high-end model in, say, a handbag, one made from conventional leather, the other from cruelty-free future leather, don't you think they'd go for the innovative, compassionate one? Markets cater to demand, and you, dear reader, have the power to create demand for the good stuff. Yes, you can. Talk to the GM of your local boutique; email/call HQ; vote with your money.

Demand style + compassion.

We're creating the future right now; let's be proud of it.

5 Crazy Reasons Women Buy Clothes But Don't Wear Them

$

The easiest way to figure out what's going on in a woman's psyche is to look at her shopping and clothes-wearing habits.

I was reminded of this last month while talking to a friend of mine about a skirt she had recently bought. Her face lit up as she described a gorgeous skirt in a beautiful floral print.

"Why haven't I seen you wearing it?"I asked.
"I'm saving it," she replied.
When I asked her "For what?" she couldn't come up with an answer.

My girlfriend suffers from a clothing affliction that many women, including me, share: namely, we buy clothes we love but instead of wearing and enjoying them, we save them.

There are plenty of crazy reasons why we do this. One of the most common is that we have a fantasy about who we are and how we'd like to dress or live. We buy for the fantasy instead of buying for our real lives.

Maybe you've fallen in love with an edgy and expensive pair of high-heeled studded boots that speak to your inner rocker chick and you just have to have them. But when you get them home, you realize that your serious corporate job and busy home life chasing after two young children means you really have no where to wear your beloved boots.

I'm guilty of this myself. I'm a sucker for dressy business clothes but since most of my time is spent working from a home office, what I need is more along the lines of upscale casual clothes. I have a few things sitting in my closet that I'm saving for the next big formal corporate meeting I have to attend but since that isn't about to happen anytime soon, they'll unfortunately languish there for some time.

Another reason plenty of us save clothes is because we're waiting to lose those last five pounds. Be honest, do you have a pair of pants sitting in your closet that are a little (or a lot) too tight but you keep holding on to them until some unspecified day in the future when you'll be able to fit into them again? Do you keep fantasizing about getting out to the gym, doing a million crunches and miraculously toning your abs so you can once again wear a favorite sheath dress without any tummy bulge?

We've all been there, particularly as we age and it gets too darn easy for the pounds to add up. But ladies, let's be honest with ourselves, that "someday" when you lose weight may be a long way -- maybe a long, long way -- off.

Life is too short to wait for "someday". Instead of saving clothes for something that may or may not ever happen, let's embrace who we are today, take a deep breath and toss what doesn't fit. Or, to paraphrase The Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity to accept the pounds I cannot shed;
Courage to alter and wear the clothes I can;
And wisdom to dump the frump.

Occasionally, and sadly, women buy clothes and not wear them for darker reasons.

They may have a compulsive shopping habit and buy more clothes than they can wear. Or they feel guilty about spending too much money so, as Dr. Jennifer Baumgartner suggests in her book, You Are What You Wear: What Your Clothes Reveal About You, we buy clothes and don't wear them as a form of self-punishment.

Or maybe it's for one of the saddest reasons of all: as we get older, we feel we're not pretty enough or youthful enough to wear beautiful things. If this rings a bell with you, I'm here to tell you that you do deserve to look and feel fantastic and that you truly can be fabulous after 40 or 50 or at any age.

Then of course, there's the craziest reason we save our clothes (and it is the same reason we never use our china dishes for everyday), we think they are so beautiful and precious that we don't want to muck them up. Instead, we go around wearing the same old boring clothes week after week, waiting for a special occasion to put on something pretty.

That was my friend's problem. Since she works from home, her days are mostly spent in front of her computer, walking the dog and running out to do the occasional errand. She's in the habit of wearing a practical, boring uniform of jeans, a t-shirt and boots for Birkenstocks.

While there's nothing inherently wrong with this, there's nothing particularly right about it either. She loves clothes and looking good and if she worked in a downtown office building, she would take full advantage of being it to unleash her inner chic fashionista.

So why is she depriving herself of something that brings her joy simply because her office is in her home? If you can relate and have been saving your nice clothes out of habit or fear of mucking them up, I say it's time to break that habit.

Train yourself to live in beauty every day. Eat off your china dishes every night of the week, buy flowers and have them around the house and wear your lovely clothes. Style is not about the way you dress, it's about the way you live.

Is there something in your closet that you have been saving? Then I challenge you to live in the moment and wear it today so you can start looking and feeling Fabulous!

Royal Baby Name Predictions for the Newest Addition to the British Monarchy

$

0
Once again, Britain is expecting a new prince or princess to rule over their island nation mainly obsess over. And once again, we're all wondering what the royal family will name its youngest member.

Luckily, the Internet is way ahead of us. Betting sites PaddyPower and Ladbrokes -- who last year correctly predicted "George" -- have their predictions already mapped out. On both sites, "Elizabeth" is a strong favorite for a girl, chosen after Prince William's grandmother. According to Linda Rosenkrantz at Nameberry, it's pretty conceivable at the very least as a middle name, if not a first.

"The Brits are fond of nicknames," she told The Huffington Post, "and Elizabeth has a raft of choices."

Here are a few other leading choices, based on the current top bets. (Game of Thrones fans should note that "Joffrey" is ranked, unsurprisingly, 1000:1 by PaddyPower.)

If it's a girl...

Elizabeth
Odds: 10:1 (PaddyPower) and 8:1 (Ladbrokes)
This top choice would be shared with the future royal's great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, paternal great-great-grandmother, the beloved Queen Mother, and maternal great-great-grandmother. Queen Elizabeth I, daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, ruled for 45 years as one of England's most successful leaders.

Victoria
Odds: 10:1 (PaddyPower) and 8:1 (Ladbrokes)
The long-reigning Queen Victoria oversaw much of Britain's transition into a constitutional monarchy and helped expand the empire, giving rise to the popular saying, "the sun never sets on the British monarchy." Her name, Rosenkrantz noted, "has the appeal of being a classic, yet with a modern vibe."

Mary
Odds: 10:1 (PaddyPower) and 12:1 (Ladbrokes)
Queen Mary was crowned in 1911 as the wife of King George V, and it's long been a royal favorite, Rosenkrantz said. Of course, this moniker also holds an association with "Bloody Mary," the 16th-century queen whose executions of Protestants made her wildly unpopular. (But it's also a great sleepover game.)

Other top choices: Charlotte (12:1, 20:1), Alexandra (12:1, 16:1), Alice (14:1, 16:1), Diana (25:1, 12:1), Catherine (14:1)

If it's (another) boy...

James
Odds: 14:1 (PaddyPower) and 6:1 (Ladbrokes)
Two English and a bunch of Scottish kings have gone by this name over the centuries, giving it strong ties to the royal family. It's also Kate's brother's name. But in 2013 a royal family insider stated that, if chosen, this name would reference the royal House of Stuarts, not a non-royal uncle.

Philip
Odds: 10:1 (PaddyPower) and 20:1 (Ladbrokes)
This choice would honor William's grandfather, Prince Philip, husband of Elizabeth II. Philip and his wife are both descendants of Queen Victoria. But there's never been a monarch named Philip, Rosenkrantz noted, so despite favorable odds this choice seems unlikely.

Arthur
Odds: 12:1 (PaddyPower) and 8:1 (Ladbrokes)
Most notably of "knights of the round table" fame, "Arthur" is also currently enjoying popularity in contemporary Britain. Its ties to chivalry and royalty -- Queen Victoria had a son and grandson with the name -- make it a strong contender.

Other top choices: Charles (12:1, 10:1), Henry (12:1, 14:1), William (14:1), Thomas (not ranked, 10:1), Francis (20:1)

Whatever they choose, it'll be pretty great.

14 Questions Everyone Already Has About The New Royal Baby

$

Here we go again.

The palace confirmed today that the Duchess of Cambridge has a little crumpet in the oven, just 13 months after the birth of Prince George. Now that Kate Middleton is only about eight weeks pregnant with her second child, so many questions abound. Like...

Was it planned?
Probably. Prince William supposedly said that he wanted two children with Kate before she was pregnant with their first child (but rumor has it that they both want more than two). Then during the annual St. Patrick's Day parade last March, he told Regimental Sergeant Major Ray Collister, "One's enough at the moment," explaining that the couple would have more children as soon as they had time. It seems that the royals have finally cleared their schedules.

What does Prince George think?
Predicting a non-verbal toddler's thoughts is nearly impossible, but it's easy to imagine that little Georgie will be glad to have a playmate.

Will it be a boy or a girl?
For most women, it's a 50/50 shot, but Kate's hypermesis gravidarum shakes up the odds a bit. Those afflicted with the acute morning sickness have a 55.7 percent chance of delivering a girl, according to a recent study. In fact, the sicker you are, the more likely it is that you're carrying a female fetus. While Kate had to cancel her most recent engagement in Oxford to receive at-home treatment in Kensington Palace for her morning sickness, it's hard to tell exactly how badly she feels or truly know if that's any indication of the sex of the baby.

For what it's worth, she had hypermesis gravidarum the first time around, and she gave birth to a boy.

What will the name be?
Again, this is anyone's guess, but we have some promising speculations, considering there are a few royal ancestor options. Like last time, bets are already being made on the topic. The last time around, the frontrunner for a boy's name turned out to be the one -- well done, Internet. Some other names thrown around were Philip (the future baby's grandfather's name), Arthur, James and Louis (which is George's middle name and thus an unlikely option).

Betters last year were banking on Alexandra if the baby was a girl, but Elizabeth (as in Queen Elizabeth and Queen Elizabeth II), Mary and Charlotte were all in the pool, too. The favorite of nostalgics? Diana.

queen elizabeth prince philip

What is the ideal time between siblings?
If Kate and Will truly do want several siblings for little Georgie, it makes sense that they're already working on baby number two -- Kate's a 32-year-old woman with a jam-packed schedule and an ever-growing list of official royal duties, after all. While there's not a magic number that will give you the perfect age difference between siblings, the duke and and duchess may be modeling their family planning after their own respective families. Kate and her sister Pippa Middleton are just 21 months apart, while Will and Prince Harry are a little more than two years apart.

Of course, the benefits of having children close together are many: your children make easier playmates, plus you're already in the "baby frame of mind." If Kate really is eight weeks along, George's sibling will probably be born sometime in April, making him or her younger by 21 months.

What does it mean to be a second baby?
Second children can go through all sorts of unique experiences, from a lack of confidence as compared to the first born to a desire to rebel (ahem, Prince Harry). But a royal second child, has one other thing to consider: succession to the throne. The new baby boy or girl will be fourth in line to the throne behind Prince Charles, Prince William and big brother Prince George. Luckily, it doesn't matter if it's a boy or girl, since Britain changed succession laws before George was born so that a girl wouldn't lose her place in line to a boy born after her.

What will the baby look like?
According to the the face mash-ups created the last time Kate was pregnant, something like this:

royal baby

What will the baby's zodiac sign be? And what will that mean?
If April is the birth month, then the second royal baby will be either an Aries or a Taurus. Make of that what you will.

When's the right time to announce a pregnancy anyway?
Reports say Kate's eight weeks long, which is relatively early to announce, according to standard advice. After 10 to 12 weeks (the end of the first trimester), risks of miscarriage drop dramatically, so many people wait until that period is over to announce. But it's really up to each couple to decide when they'd like to break the news. The duchess may have announced on the early side due to extenuated circumstances, since the press was likely to pick up on her missed engagement and any medical activity happening at Kensington.

If it’s a girl, what does that mean?
Since Britain already changed its succession laws, a girl has just as much chance of ascending to the throne as a boy. If Kate and Will's little bundle of joy turns out to be a girl, you can probably expect fantastic royal fashion moments to rival mommy and maybe even playdates with other international royal princesses. Get ready, Princess Estelle of Sweden.

Will this new sibling be the "Harry"?
If the second royal baby is going to have that aforementioned second child rebellion, he or she will learn from the best: Prince Harry. The token "fun uncle" has been known to party it up and embarrass the palace from time to time.

Will Kate re-wear maternity clothes from her first pregnancy?
The Duchess of Cambridge has no problem recycling great outfits, so it's quite likely she'll re-wear some of the fantastic ensembles from her first pregnancy.

maternity style

Will Kate give birth in the Lindo wing again?
Since she gave birth there without a hitch there the first time around, it's unlikely she'll shake things up this time. Plus, Princess Diana gave birth to both William and Harry there, so it's a family tradition.

Will the baby wear Prince George's hand-me-downs?
One can only hope.

Taylor Swift Is Living In A State Of Paranoia, Prefers You Didn't Ask Her Out Via E-mail

You should not attempt to break into Taylor Swift's New York apartment.

First, because it's wrong, but more importantly because you'd simply be contributing to an already overwhelming sense of paranoia that apparently consumes the 24-year-old superstar. Also, it sounds like trying to break in would be a pretty futile experience, according to her most recent Rolling Stone cover story.

Swift reportedly bought the Tribeca apartment for about $15 million, but Rolling Stone reveals that she spent another $5 million for the unit across the hall, where she houses her security team. So you know she's sleeping safe and sound.

Strangely, security seems to be one of the major themes of the story, as she tells Rolling Stone writer Josh Eells about the intense secrecy involved in shooting the video for her hit song "Shake It Off."

"Don't even get me started on wiretaps. It's not a good thing for me to talk about socially. I freak out," Swift says in all seriousness, before wondering if the janitor is a mole being paid to spy on her by TMZ.

The article is littered with references to Swift's paranoid state. Eells writes that "despite the DEFCON-3 level of security, in a lot of ways Swift has never felt more free." That sense of freedom comes from her new album "1989," living in New York and putting her dating life on hold -- in fact, she says she hasn't gone on a date since she broke up with Harry Styles a year and a half ago. While her romantic life is no longer taking center stage, it doesn't mean the boys aren't interested.

"Seventy percent of the time, when a guy asks me out, it'll just be a random e-mail," she says. Some movie star will get her address from his publicist and e-mail her cold. Usually she politely rebuffs them – but even if someone did penetrate that line of defense, building a relationship is hard.

Seriously? E-mails? No wonder she's rebuffing you.

There's that and she told the magazine she feels like the public started treating her dating life as some sort of "national pastime," and she's "just not comfortable providing that kind of entertainment anymore. I don't like seeing slideshows of guys I've apparently dated. I don't like giving comedians the opportunity to make jokes about me at awards shows. I don't like it when headlines read 'Careful, Bro, She'll Write a Song About You,' because it trivializes my work. And most of all, I don't like how all these factors add up to build the pressure so high in a new relationship that it gets snuffed out before it even has a chance to start. And so," she told the magazine, "I just don't date."

Shake it off, Taylor, just shake it off.

Lopez donned a long-sleeved leather dress with a thigh-high hem in Manhattan's Meatpacking District on Monday, Sept. 8. She paired the look with strappy heels and a ponytail hairstyle, channeling Ariana Grande.

Ariana Grande Apparently Doesn't Want To Answer Any Interesting Questions (UPDATE)

The first rule of talking to Ariana Grande is: Do not ask questions that may be of any interest to the public.

According to News Corp Australia, before the 21-year-old singer recently canceled a string of photo shoots and interviews with a group of Australian media, Grande's reps gave press strict instructions to avoid questions related to specific topics.

Apparently, it would be a "Problem" for reporters to inquire about:

  1. Relationships/Dating/Ex-boyfriends

  2. Mariah Carey

  3. "Sam & Cat"/former co-star Jennette McCurdy

  4. Working/collaborating with Justin Bieber

  5. Her grandfather passing away

The singer also allegedly requested she only be photographed on her left side. The Australian news site reports that Grande's first sitting for mX newspaper was a "stop-start affair, with the singer checking each frame after it was taken and asking for shots she wasn’t pleased with to be deleted."

Grande reportedly kept everyone waiting for 20 minutes while she went to change outfits, before one of her reps returned and demanded that the photographer delete all his photos. When the photographer refused, the singer apparently canceled all remaining interviews and photo shoots she had scheduled for the day.

HuffPost Entertainment's request to Grande's reps for comment has yet to be returned at this time, but if they did prohibit reporters from asking the singer about any of the aforementioned topics, it's probably for the best that she canceled all of the interviews.

If you can't ask Grande about her rumored romance with Big Sean or her scrapped Nickelodeon show, do we really need to hear about how her mother worried she'd might grow up to be a serial killer, again?

UPDATE: Ariana Grande addressed the negative press she's been getting during an interview on an Australian radio show on Monday, telling Mike E and Emma on 96.1, she didn't abruptly end a photo shoot with a photographer, as previously reported.

"It was just a photographer or something who got mad at me because I left to change my outfit mid photo shoot because I didn't like my top. I was like, 'Oh, I'll be right back!' and then I came back and he had left. I was like, 'Oh, shit!' And then he came out and said all these ridiculous untrue things about me. I was like, 'That's not real. That's nonsense!'"

Meanwhile, Grande's manager Scooter Braun defended his client as well.

"@ArianaGrande is kind, caring, and more than anything she is a great human being. Some people make up rumors for a living....so saying things about Ari comes with her now being a big star. But saying she isn't a good person that ain't gonna fly," Braun wrote on Twitter. "Just yesterday she did an impromptu meet and greet for all her fans that almost got her kicked out of her hotel after a 14 hour work day. Why? Because she knows u care so she does too. There is Zero truth to anything different. Enough is enough."

While Grande may not be the diva she was made out to be, you still probably can't ask her anything interesting.

Bethany Mota Shares The Secret To Winning YouTube

Your favorite YouTube stars are finally getting their chance to shine in a different kind of spotlight.

Next month, Seventeen will become the first major women's magazine to devote an entire issue to the biggest personalities on YouTube, featuring YouTube darling Bethany Mota (a.k.a. MacBarbie07) on its cover. Mota has amassed a following of over 7 million fans with her beauty, fashion and DIY tutorials.

The recently-named contestant on Season 19 of "Dancing With the Stars" will be one of the 30 YouTube stars to be highlighted in the magazine. In her interview, Bethany talks about her rise to fame, learning to be her own boss and the secret to YouTube domination.

Scroll down for photos and pick up the new issue, which hits newsstands September 16. Head over to seventeen.com for more.

How being bullied inspired Bethany Mota to start filming beauty videos when she was 13:
“It was so cool seeing girls being positive and spreading happiness. At first, I made beauty videos that were like everyone else’s –- I’d try to act perfect. But then I realized it might be more fun if I was just myself. So I showed my silly side and kept in the bloopers. I liked those videos way more, and people appreciated that realness.”

What it’s been like to grow up on YouTube:
“I think it’s taught me to be a lot more self-motivated and has taught me how to encourage myself and not rely on a teacher or a boss telling me what to do. I’m my own boss. My biggest thing to overcome has been not being afraid to be different. It’s safer to do what everyone else is doing, but it pays off way more to be yourself.”

Her advice for other girls who are trying to find their place in the world:
“You have to be your own motivator! A lot of teens say they’re bored. Before I got on YouTube, I’d say the same thing. But there is always something you can be doing. If YouTube isn’t your thing, maybe it’s a sport or something else you’re good at. There’s always something you can be the best at –- you just have to look for it.”

"Now tell me, who dat, who dat?"

Well, it's definitely Iggy Azalea. However, the Australian-born rapper looked a lot like Sharon Stone in "Basic Instinct" at the Calvin Klein Reveal fragrance launch in New York City on Monday.

Wearing a white sleeveless turtleneck dress, tan trench coat and knee-high black leather boots, Iggy's curves were barely covered as she performed her hit songs "Work," "Fancy" and "Black Widow" with surprise guest Rita Ora.

Stone's iconic white dress from the 1992 erotic thriller made a lasting effect on fashion. But how do you think Iggy's "Basic Instinct" look compares?

What The Days Before A Fashion Show Really Look Like

Fashion shows are a lot like weddings. You spend a full year planning for them and when the day finally comes it feels like it's over in fifteen minutes. The only difference is that a fashion show is actually that short. Anyone who attends Fashion Week can probably guess how hectic things are backstage the day of, but for at least one brand, there is a certain controlled chaos spanning the days before the show, as well.

We spent the two days leading up to Thursday's BCBGMAXAZRIA's Spring 2015 show following around the team like fashion-obsessed puppies. We sat in on everything from fittings, to makeup and hair tests to a walk through of the entire collection with Lubov Azria herself, Chief Creative Officer of the company. Here's what we learned:

The process is incredibly hands on.

Azria plays a key part in putting the show together. From carpet colors to finding the perfect model for each look, every single detail goes through her.

There are a lot, and we mean A LOT of things happening at one time.

backstage

During our visit there were photos being taken, models being fitted, logistics being discussed... All while models in their underwear strutted their stuff down a makeshift runway (aka the hallway).

BCBG is a very well-oiled machine.

bcbg1

Amidst the chaos, however, was a sense of zen. Azra is known for her meticulous schedule, and we were informed that the show was actually running ahead of schedule. It was almost as if the design team had an unspoken language between them. In fact, at one point it seemed they actually just looked at each other before deciding to tuck in one of the shirts. Magic.

The entire team hauls from California to set up shop in the New York offices.

Stepping into the offices reminded us of what we can only imagine Santa's workshop looks like on Christmas Eve. There are the rooms dedicated to sewers, the makeshift beauty salon, and one room that could be confused for the greatest walk-in-closet of all time.

Coffee -- nay -- espresso, is essential.

The Nespresso machine is fully stocked with pods, syrups and even a caramel macchiato recipe. At one point, after Azria hinted at her coffee craving, a member of the team was quick to bring her one with not one, but two shots. "This is going to be a long buzz," she laughed.

Tying a belt is way more involved than it looks.

belt

It took nearly every single person to get the knot just right on the collection of belts. We all waited with bated breath each time for Lubov's nod of knotted approval.

Deciding on hair & makeup takes longer than you might think.

Hair and makeup almost seem like an afterthought when you're watching a runway show, as the clothes are the main event. But there is an absolute art in making sure the makeup and hair are not only complementary to the pieces, but to the other models, as well.

There is a reason women's shirts have pockets on the right.

As Lubov put it "women's shirt pockets are on the right because a woman is always right."

Now that is reasoning we can get on board with.

Nick Loeb Apparently Slams Sofia Vergara's Style In New Interview

Sofia Vergara might be hailed as one of Hollywood's most glamorous stars, but Nick Loeb apparently wasn't a fan of his former fiancee's style.

In a new interview with the New York Post's Page Six, Loeb opened up about his famous ex, saying he understands why she is dating "Magic Mike" hunk Joe Manganiello: “He’s a great-looking guy. I guess if I was a girl, I’d be dating him, too.”

However, when the conversation turned to the topic of fashion, Loeb took a swipe at Vergara.

“I’m sort of a conservative, so I like a girl to dress a little classier,” he said. So not a lot of "Vergara-style cleavage"? “No. I’ve always sort of liked the more classic, elegant look on a woman," Loeb told Page Six.

The "Modern Family" star and her businessman beau split back in May. She said they had trouble figuring out when to spend time together due to busy work schedules and the relationship became less fun. In July, she began dating Manganiello.

Vergara is happy with her new romance.

“You know I'm just having a great time and it's a special time in my life and I'm trying not to think too much about it," she told "Extra" last month. "It’s something very new so we will see what happens.”

Why Bill Cunningham Is Actually The Most Interesting Person At Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is pretty much eye-candy for the style set. Between runway shows and celebrity sightings, there is no shortage of interesting things to see. But legendary street style photographer Bill Cunningham is arguably the most interesting of all.

Cunningham is a fixture on the streets of New York; he's been capturing great style for years. Yet it turns out that when the camera is flipped, the photos are equally as exciting. From that blue coat he's been wearing for years to the precise way he's able to get a shot, watching him can be just as -- if not more -- fun than watching what's happening inside the tents.

Here are all the reasons Bill Cunningham is actually the most interesting person at Fashion week:

His bike rides are iconic -- even in hyperlapse.

He knows precisely when to get the perfect shot:

He GLOWS.

Even in the background, he's the main event.

He stands out from the crowd.

He understands that flexibility plays a huge part in capturing the moment.

No one can pose for photos while simultaneously riding a bike like Bill.

Because trends may come and go, but he's been wearing that trusty blue coat for years.

We love you, Bill!
