10 Cruelty-Free Beauty Products for Oily Skin

$

If you are anything like me, you find yourself awkwardly googling brand names in the middle of Ulta (Walgreens, Target, Nordstrom, etc, etc), trying to make sure they don't test on animals. This process is not made any easier when you have grabbed 7 bottles (pots, creams, lotions, concealers, etc), and now have to decide under pressure, if they will hold up on a hot summer day.

So to save you some time, here is a list of 10 brands not tested on cute bunnies, that are also perfect if you have oily or combination skin.

2015-06-11-1434054296-7672534-ScreenShot20150611at3.22.12PM.png

TARTE: I love Tarte, and especially like their blushes. This brand was started by a lady entrepreneur (and you know #girlbosses are my jam) because she couldn't find a makeup line that was all natural. So she made one herself! Ingredients are harvested from the banks of the Amazon River and naturally baked in the sun, The blushes are highly pigmented and don't feel sticky. "Watermelon" and "Natural Beauty" are my favorites! The ingredients are all non toxic, and you can feel good about putting them on your skin! It's practically like doing a mud treatment, right?
2015-06-11-1434054735-4164008-ScreenShot20150611at3.23.09PM.png

NYX: I love this brand. They have tons of great products and it is super affordable! You can find it almost anywhere and it is totally animal friendly. My faves are the liquid black liner, and the kohl liner.
2015-06-11-1434054889-8472869-ScreenShot20150611at3.23.14PM.png

HOURGLASS: The Immaculate foundation by Hourglass is a bit different then what you may be used to. It has sort of a whipped texture, and dries very fast on the skin, so make sure to be quick. I prefer to apply it with a buffing motion using a flat foundation brush myself. I used this on my wedding day after trying approximately 12 different foundations, as my worst fear was being shiny and oily on my day! This thing DID NOT move. Combine with the Becca Primer and your face will not move for days (but I hope you wash it that night).

2015-06-11-1434054949-3548789-ScreenShot20150611at3.23.20PM.png

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS: The Brow Wiz. Alright now, let's talk about the Brow Wiz. This is BY FAR, the best eyebrow product I have ever used in my life. I am obsessed and have gone through 5 in the last 2 years. They are amazingly thin and accurate, something I find very helpful, and perfectly pigmented, so that even if you have a heavy hand you won't be looking like Martin Scorsese! I. am. addicted.

2015-06-11-1434055068-8086484-ScreenShot20150611at3.23.40PM.png

URBAN DECAY: If you haven't heard yet, the Naked Palettes are amazing. The powders are super pigmented, and in combination with a good primer, do not crease at all! I personally use the Naked 2, and in my opinion it's the best and most blend-able for my skin tone (olive).
2015-06-11-1434055360-9080900-ScreenShot20150611at3.23.46PM.png

BECCA:The Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector is the real deal. It is SUPER thick and super long-lasting. Recommended for your longer wear days, as it is truly a matte finish. One bottle has lasted me over a year! If you have oily skin, maybe get a sample at Sephora before investing the $36! It's one of those I like to have for hot and humid days, as it is too heavy duty for every-day wear.
2015-06-11-1434055386-686175-ScreenShot20150611at3.23.51PM.png

PHILOSOPHY: This is such a fun and clean brand. I love all the smells and how effective the skin care is. I love using Amazing Grace for cleaning my makeup brushes, because it doesn't leave any residue, and I am a total NO RESIDUE lover!
2015-06-11-1434055407-9263056-ScreenShot20150611at3.23.59PM.png

BARE ESCENTUALS: The Warmth Bronzer has been my favorite since High School. It just does something amazing for your face no matter what complexion you have. It immediately warms it up, with an almost photoshop-like effect. It's pure love between us. This brand is totally bunny friendly and natural, and I recommend you trying some of their products as you are sure to love at least one.
2015-06-11-1434055548-397712-ScreenShot20150611at3.23.35PM.png

KAT VON D: The Lock It concealer is one of my favorites! It is heavy duty, no transfer, almost like the stuff they make for covering up tattoos. It is also oil and paraben-free, which is a total plus!
2015-06-11-1434056433-4791465-ScreenShot20150611at3.59.50PM.png

ALBA BOTANICA: This brand has several skin and hair care products, of which my favorite is the oil-free moisturizer. They smell great and are non-toxic as well!

Groovy Paisley Underwear Looks

The history of paisley prints dates back to ancient Persia. These days, we see paisley everywhere - from formal neck and bow ties, to casual scarves - to underwear. Paisley underwear can either make you look like an on-trend hipster or a contemporary man that appreciates all aesthetics, whether they be feminine or masculine.

Perry Ellis paisley underwear is perfect for the all-American, white collar worker. The design is more reserved and provides full coverage. The colors are simple: black and blue, and the cut is loose.

Levi's 200 Neats Bandana Trunk has a similar look and feel, and yet is more casual with a paisley teardrop print.

The Mundo Unico Recife Short Boxer also has a classic look to it, but is a bit more youthful with the addition of brighter colors.

BR4SS and Jor set their paisley underwear up to have a more schoolboy type of charm, and the bad boy in the class would be wearing the BR4SS Bandana Boxers.

Jor's Sahara Brief is the only pair of paisley underwear in our photoshoot to not have a two-color contrast. Rather, it has a Far East type of look, and brings to mind the 70s' Summer of Love. Paisley originally became more trendy in the 1970s, post-India trip for The Beatles. The floral print has been associated with Hinduism, and different cultures believe that the print relates to peace, love, and life. We can get behind that - the paisley prints on these underwear looks gives us life, too!

Jennifer Lawrence's bodyguard is pretty handsome.

He's been photographed following her around New York City all week while presumably doing his job guarding her body. Of course, the fact that the Oscar-winning actress employs such a good looking man seems to have greatly excited the Internet.

The ladies of Litchfield can clearly pull off prison attire -- but when they're not doing time, they look even more amazing.

Case in point: every single one of their outfits at the "Orange Is the New Black" fan premiere event, OrangeCon. The entire cast was there to celebrate the Season 3 release of the Netflix series, and boy, did they bring their A-games.

But before we show you just how great they looked, let us remind you how we're used to seeing them:

oitnb cast

And here's what they looked like on Thursday night:

orangecon

Nicky and Piper (Natasha Lyonne and Taylor Schilling) totally killed it in their primary-colored frocks.

orangecon

Janae and new inmate Stella (Vicky Jeudy and Ruby Rose) have the whole monochromatic thing down pat.

orangecon

Crazy Eyes and Taystee (Uzo Aduba and Danielle Brooks) looked absolutely gorgeous. SLAY.

orangecon

Sophia (Laverne Cox) brought all the sass.

orangecon

Big Boo (Lea DeLaria) totally owned those royal blue shoes. Love.

orangecon

Daya (Dascha Polanco) looked like a boss with her deep red finger waves and white skirt suit.

orangecon

Alex (Laura Prepon) worked this suede overcoat like it was her job.

orangecon

And Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) looked prim and proper in a super-cute frock.

YASSSS, LADIES.

"Orange Is the New Black" Season 3 is streaming now on Netflix. (We know how we're spending our weekend...)

Target Takes A Body-Positive Approach To Swimwear This Summer

Every body is a bikini body, this is true. But that doesn't necessarily mean that one bikini fits all.

Thanks to the new "Target Loves Every Body” campaign, featuring four women of all different shapes and sizes, it's clearer than ever than when it comes to bathing suit shopping, we're all in the same boat.

target 1

While the ad is informative -- triangle shaped tops are good for creating curves, high-waisted bottoms that sit at your natural waist are good for supporting your tummy -- the reason it's so great is that it's actually representative of real women, with real insecurities.

Stylist and fashion journalist Zanna Roberts Rassi along with Chantè Burkett, Nashelly Messina, Sarah Boyd and Nikki Minton chat about what they love most about their bodies and their biggest problem areas before each of them find the right suit.

In creating the video, Target is telling customers that they can and should feel good about wearing a bathing suit. Any bathing suit.

"I'm so happy I had the opportunity to showcase my body in a swimsuit for the girls who look just like me" Burkett, creator of the blog Everything Curvy And Chic told The Huffington Post. "Campaigns like this are so important because girls and women need to see others embracing their bodies in ads no matter what size they are."

chante

Target's relationship with its customers, specifically plus-size consumers, has certainly come a long way. Thanks in part to working with influencers in the community and creating campaigns like this.

Take a look at the video above.

Kim Kardashian Posts Adorable Photo Of North West Wearing Kanye's Gold Chain

Could North West be any cuter? We think not.

Kim Kardashian posted an adorable snap of her daughter on Twitter and Instagram Friday, and we can't even deal. In the shot, we see little North dressed in a pastel pink dress with a diamond encrusted gold chain (likely Kanye's) around her neck.

Kim, who recently announced she's expecting her second child with West, captioned the photo, "No daddy's it's me necklace."

Just, awww.

North definitely knows a good accessory when she sees it. And we doubt Kanye's getting that chain back any time soon (because really, how could he have the heart to take it away from her).

The toddler also has no shortage of garments to play dress-up in, not to mention she'll inherit Kim's entire wardrobe when she's older. Must be nice!

We Are The Future: Italy's New Wave Of Visionary Designers

$

By Chiara Tronville

Yesterday’s emerging talent, today’s visionary designers. An update on Made in Italy with 16 dreamers-entrepreneurs.

Don’t call them young, don’t call them new: the designers in this article are the already-recognized evolution of Italian fashion. They did their best, challenging a market dominated by luxury brands, deciding to work for themselves in an uncertain historical period. And they’ve done it. It can be seen in their sales and their followers.

Despite their differences, there is a fine red thread that links them together: the humility with which they started up: in silence, taking samples around in the trunks of their cars, looking for a break abroad, working day and night in the offices of a fashion house. But it's also the determination in wanting to do it their way, looking for investors, suppliers, small workshops for production, going to the basics of materials and hand craftsmanship, taking on the role of entrepreneur. Few of them have an established business behind them. This has made them freer, more curious, cultured travelers. With a calculator in their hands, sure, but with visionary talent.

Fausto Puglisi

Fausto Puglisi managed to first convince the stars and then the critics. His journey began in 1999, when the designer from Messina flew to LA, looking for America. Today he shows in Milan (and his catwalk, with its lights, music and atmosphere, is one of the most eagerly anticipated and spectacular) and is represented in 160 boutiques worldwide. Strong vibrant colors, pop prints, leather and studs are his signature looks. But behind his friendship with celebrities, there is his cultured and mature attention to every detail: rigorously hand-embroidered by a top secret Lombard workshop.

A-Lab
2015-06-12-1434142373-8562278-Italy2.jpg
Alessandro Biasi

It should have been a collective project between art and fashion: it became an international clothing brand. Created by Alessandro Biasi and produced exclusively in Milan, A-Lab has become famous by looking forwards, with the shape of its armour-clothes (some, from their debut, still numbered like pieces of art) and by using digital communication: “A parallel reality, which doesn’t always correspond to the truth.”

Andrea Pompilio
2015-06-12-1434142474-8396967-Italy3.jpg
Andrea Pompilio. ©Alessandro Furchino

There are three fundamental moments in the story of Andrea Pompilio: the shock on his grandmother’s face when, age eight, he revealed he wanted to work in fashion; the move from Pesaro to Milano and the decision to go it alone (his brand debuted in 2010 with the first women’s collection in 2013). There's just been one emotional crisis in NYC, after arriving in Calvin Klein’s style office, because he didn’t know anyone in the city. Everything else has been work, intuition and solid experience for his cv (also with Prada). His garments are now in 37 points of sale, and focus on the idea of masculine sartorial style. “I define myself as classic: duffle coats and double-breasted designs are never missing from my collections.”

Andrea Incontri

From Mantua, he's gentle in his actions, with a poetic but functional approach to fashion, and never mainstream. After starting off with a strong design focus and a passion for tactile experiences (he was working as a consultant for a fabrics firm), he debuted with his own brand in 2009. He loves silence, the elegance of days gone by and the ability of the Japanese to remain in equilibrium between sobriety and madness. These inspirations emerge between the lines of his men and women’s collections, in which he puts together clean lines and special materials (also hitech). Recognition of his talent for accessories has led him to become, from two seasons, the creative director of Tod’s men’s collection.

Marco De Vincenzo

After graduating from IED, Marco De Vincenzo (1978, Aries) found out that there would be interviews at Fendi the following day. He introduced himself, literally, and was taken on. From then on he grew in the design office of the fashion house, working side by side with Silvia Venturini. Above all he learned “to not trust the obvious and to not be afraid of making brave decisions.” So much so that he launched his own line, with a first show in Paris in 2009. Today the boy from Messina is, for creativity and preciousness, among the most respected of the new Made in Italy fashion. His signature piece? “The skirt, symbol of femininity and movement.”

2015-06-12-1434142682-34557-italy5.jpg
De Vincenzo: “Futuristic head, old print of Vulcano Island, a contemporary portrait of a woman: my ideal mix.”

Daniele Carlotta

Brought up in Modica (Ragusa) among the precious materials of his mother’s shop, known as “The Lady of Silk,” Daniele Carlotta (born in 1985) has a sense for materials, a taste for contrasts and a sexy aesthetic which goes beyond European borders. In fact, only two years after the launch of his first collection he is already present in one hundred boutiques around the world. Meanwhile, given his passion for the atelier dimension and a direct relationship with clients, the Sicilian designer is thinking of a made-to-measure project.

Au Jour Le Jour

A meeting at a Milanese party: they talked about fashion. Thinking about it, Mirko Fontana and Diego Marquez (35 and 40 years old respectively) were right. They agreed on the fact that something was missing from the Italian panorama: a brand which would be strong and funny (at an affordable price). So they created it in 2010. Notoriety came straight away through social media, where they became the favored designers of bloggers and friends. The digital word-of-mouth was so intense as to get to Giorgio Armani himself, who then wanted to endorse them, having them as guests in his theatre for their first official show. A men’s collection followed and global visibility. Their best sellers? For her, t-shirt dresses, a piece which is now in continuous production. For him, patterned sweatshirts and t-shirts.

Greta Boldini

Alex Flagella and Michela Musco. ©Carlotta Bertelli

They fell in love, but after Polimoda they couldn’t find satisfying work for both of them in the same city. So Alex Flagella (31) and Michela Musco (28) founded, in 2011, the Roman atelier Greta Boldini. In a short time it transformed into a label looking for a fresh sartorial approach, a new generation. Today the design duo are on their sixth collection. “With the last collections we started from scratch, turning to a more minimalist taste, which still focuses on hand-embroidered details, but in a more wearable version. Also for daywear, with straight tunics and flat sandals.”

MSGM

Massimo Giorgetti. ©Emilio Tini

He began with streetwear, and has excelled both at using colors and marketing. The result: more than 600 shops in six years with his brand MSGM and the appointment as Creative Director at Emilio Pucci. Massimo Giorgetti, from Rimini, had a genial intuition: to enter into a slice of the middle market with an instantly recognizable, energetic and day-to-day product. A determining factor in the extraordinary success he’s had has been his partnership with the manufacturer (the Paoloni Group) and the distributor (the showroom of Riccardo Grassi), solid Italian realities.

Marco Grisolia
2015-06-12-1434143031-1442698-Italy10.jpg
Marco Grisolia.

As well as being a designer, Marco Grisolia (37 years old) is also a teacher and a stylist. This versatility has made him independent; allowing him to dedicate himself to fashion like a personal project, free from market logic. His niche product anticipates (or follows) contemporary trends. His shapes? Oversize. “I believe in mental and physical comfort, far away from the obsession of showing off the body at all costs.”

Gabriele Colangelo
2015-06-12-1434143050-5410006-Italy11.jpg
Gabriele Colangelo.

When he works on a collection, he begins with a theme, translating it into new tactile experiences. After all, the passion for experimenting with materials is in his DNA. Born in 1975, Gabriele Colangelo is, in fact, the son of a family of Milanese furriers. His career is punctuated with institutional awards. Distributed globally, his clean and geometric collections are much appreciated in Asia (in particular Korea, Japan and Hong Kong). From this season he is also Creative Director of Giada, a Chinese luxury brand totally manufactured in Italy.

ComeforBreakfast
2015-06-12-1434143078-5877499-Italy12.jpg
Antonio Romano e Francesco Alagna.

For their label (created in September 2010) they chose an original phrase: a breakfast invitation: “It’s the moment of the day that we both prefer, the one we like to share.” Antonio Romano and Francesco Alagna love to be direct, no filters, and they place themselves out of the pack: “Comeforbreakfast? An independent, experimental, intimate brand.” Among their best-selling pieces, tailored jackets and, surprisingly, sandals, a well-liked limited edition. They are among the selection for the Woolmark Prize 2015, which will be assigned in the next months.

Alberto Zambelli
2015-06-12-1434143099-1459253-Italy13.jpg
Alberto Zambelli.

Cultured in his citations and in the use of materials, Alberto Zambelli has worked in fashion for many years and, for the last two seasons, has started to follow a personal route: “I preferred to get the right experience in order to be able to tackle the creation of a high brand of prêt à porter.” Meanwhile he shares his time between China, where he is the creative director of a contemporary colored collection with capillary distribution, and Japan, where he is developing a Made in Italy line, with a definite essential feel for a third party. His passion for Asia can be seen in his pieces, which he defines as minimal decorative (at the moment only available in China, Korea and Japan): wild but with PVC embroidery and Swarovski crystals.

18 Questions For Claire Dearing From 'Jurassic World,' Who Ran From Dinosaurs In Heels

$
0
0
Potential spoilers if you have yet to see "Jurassic World." Also, go see "Jurassic World." It's awesome.

Claire Dearing, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, is a woman in charge. And not in charge of just anything, but in charge of the second iteration of a famous dinosaur amusement park, which is newer and, supposedly, safer than ever. When a mishap leads to (SPOILERS!) the biggest and meanest dino getting loose, she's forced to run around the park as she helps love interest Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, save the day.

Hero indeed. And she does it all in heels. Which is cool, if you overlook the fact that she doesn't do much? Also, turns out Howard had to specially train for her action sequences because of her wardrobe. Which begs the following questions ...

1. Really?

2. There were no extra boots available anywhere around the park?

3. Shouldn't someone have been in charge of stocking extra field gear?

4. Did Claire actually sprain her ankle about two minutes into the action and just took it like a champ for the rest of the movie?

5. What does it say about Owen's physical endurance when a person burdened by heels can keep pace with his sprinting?

6. How many toes did she fracture?

7. Will she need podiatric surgery right away, or ... ?

8. Is Claire the real hero of "Jurassic World"?

9. Might she have kept a pair of running shoes in her car?

10. If not, couldn't she have sent someone else to fetch her practical footwear?

11. Or made one of her underlings go tradesies?

12. Doesn't going barefoot seem preferable to stilettos?

13. Honestly, wouldn't the heels have just broken off at some point due to the strain?

14. Who designed those things?

15. Are they the real hero of "Jurassic World"?

16. Does she regret the sartorial decisions she made that day?

17. Could the heels have been Claire's idea of a last-ditch weapon against toothy predators?

18. Would that have justified her wearing them??

The world may never know.

Kate Middleton & Prince George Steal The Show At The 2015 Trooping The Colour Festivities

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the rest of the royal family on Saturday at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in London, also known as Queen Elizabeth II's birthday parade.

trooping the colour

trooping the colour 2015

Looking radiant as ever, the duchess stayed true to her classic style in a light blue coat dress by Catherine Walker and a Lock & Co white fascinator hat. But it was Prince George, in a shade of blue similar to his mother's, who, in his daddy's arms, stole the show while pointing and waving to the crowd.

Earlier in the day, Prince George was photographed looking on in delight as the festivities got underway.

Sadly, Princess Charlotte did not make an appearance. The first official photos of Princess Charlotte with Prince George, which were released on June 6th, were adorable, and we cannot wait to see more of the sweet little lady.

For now, we will make due with photos of the royal family looking as regal as ever.

Meet Ruby Rose, The New 'Orange Is The New Black' Breakout Star

Are you currently knee-deep into your binge of "Orange Is The New Black" Season 3? Yeah, us too.

While you've been devouring the new season like a fresh batch of prison cheesecake, you may be wondering who that new character is. Viewers who are halfway through the season -- spoiler alert -- have already met Litchfield's newest inmate, Ruby Rose's Stella Carlin. Piper first meets Stella -- who is rumored to be involved in a love triangle with Piper and Alex -- while sewing lingerie, her new prison job assignment. So who is Ruby Rose after all?

1. Rose is an Australian model, but doesn't really consider herself a model.
Rose scoffed when Rolling Stone called her a model in a recent interview. "'Model,'" she said. "I don't think of myself as a model. I'm genderqueer, and I've got tattoos."

2. Rose made a powerful short film about gender fluidity.
Last July, the 29-year-old made headlines when she released her short film "Break Free," which explores gender fluidity and the ways gender is performed in culture.

3. She used to be an MTV VJ in Australia.

4. She and her fiancée Phoebe Dahl are absolutely adorable.
Rose got engaged to Dahl, a designer and the granddaughter of author Ronald Dahl, last year. The two have an adorable engagement story -- Dahl broke into Rose's house at 6 a.m. with flowers and proposed -- and are pretty cute on Instagram as well.

5. She's not exactly like Stella Carlin.
While speaking to Vanity Fair about her "Orange Is the New Black" character, Rose said she identifies with the inmate on a physical level. "Physically and mannerisms-wise, we’re very similar," Rose told the magazine. "Stella’s very androgynous and comfortable in her skin. But I have insecurities, and I get shy, nervous. Whereas Stella doesn't really give a fuck."

6. She has a sense of humor.

All eyes were on Carrie Underwood as she hit the red carpet in Nashville for the 2015 CMA music festival Saturday night. The new mom, who gave birth to her first child in February, was all smiles in a pair of sparkly shorts matched with boot heels, a black top and a fringe vest:

The former "American Idol" winner later graced the stage to sing some of her hits, including "Blown Away," "Something in the Water" and "Before He Cheats."

Last week, Underwood was a big winner at the 2015 CMT Awards, racking up three awards, including Video of the Year for "Something in the Water."

She woke up like this.

We all know Kourtney Kardashian loves her some good beauty products -- she is a Kardashian, after all. But the mother of three can apparently enjoy a fresh-faced look, too, as she proved to her 18.7 million Instagram followers Saturday:

Gloomy morning.

Of course, the eldest Kardashian sister has stepped out without makeup plenty of times before. Need we remind you of her killer pajama-party-slash-baby-shower at IHOP last November?

The Number Of Injuries Caused By High Heels Is On The Rise, According To New Study

High heels are beautiful, sophisticated and an actual pain.

A new study by researchers in the department of epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, published last month in The Journal Of Foot And Ankle Surgery, shows that injuries from high heels doubled over a period of 11 years -- from an estimated 7,097 injuries in 2002 to an estimated 14,140 injuries in 2012. The researchers projected the number of total injuries based on how many were treated in emergency rooms each year.

One might guess that such injuries would happen most often at a party, or, say, walking down a cobblestone street. But as Mashable reports, the study reveals that almost half of high heel injuries happen inside the home. In other words, you now have yet another excuse to be as comfortable as possible when you're hanging out at home.

Female flight attendants with El Al Airlines might find the news of the growing injury rate especially useful. An Israeli women's organization has said they may sue the airline over a controversial new rule that prohibits the flight attendants from removing their high heels until all passengers are seated for takeoff.

On Friday, rapper Mykki Blanco made the decision to share something very personal.

In a Facebook post, the rapper wrote:

Ive been HIV Positive since 2011, my entire career. fuck stigma and hiding in the dark, this is my real life. I'm...

Posted by Mykki Blanco on Friday, June 12, 2015

Blanco, who is also a poet and performance artist, followed up by commenting on the post, writing, "no more living a lie. HAPPY PRIDE."

The rapper, who is passionate about LGBT rights, was arrested in Portugal last year "for being gay," and spoke out about Russia's gay propaganda laws, according to Rolling Stone.

Blanco grew up in Harlem and in a 2013 cover story the Village Voice called the performer a "gender ninja."

Great Food and Travel Gifts for Father's Day

Fathers come in varying degrees of size, height, weight, sophistication, and affluence, as do their sons and daughters. So here are some convenient, utilitarian, delicious and over-the-top gift suggestions for Father's Day. (I trust my sons are reading this?)

2015-06-14-1434304273-1603113-GPLeatherFront.jpg

LUXE LEATHER ENTREPRENEUR BY GENIUS PACK ($278)--Men can never have enough pockets, especially when it comes to briefcases, and I found that this Luxe Leather Entrepreneur had so many pockets that I had to go over the case again and again before I found and got used to them all. A padded compartment fits 13-inch to 17-inch laptops; there's a water-resistant umbrella pocket; pockets for newspaper, pens, business cards, and a Genius Charger & Device to power up your iPhone (though the iPhone 5 and 6 requires use of their battery cord). The zippers are hefty, the teeth have real grip, and the carrying handles (with strap) easily fit over trolley handles and stay put. Of real importance, it only weighs 1.2 pounds. The case is not the most beautiful piece of luggage, but it does everything you need a case for.

MARK THOMAS DOUBLE BEND SERIES GLASSWARE ($65-$125)--These days the remarkable low prices for wine and other glasses has made it irrational not to buy good quality for everyday use. But I cannot imagine anyone's father not feeling giddy if given these Mark Thomas hand-blown, lead-free crystal glasses made in Vienna of such beauty and lightness. Indeed, they are so light I at first thought they were made of very, very thin plastic. But they are also quite sturdy, even to being put into a home dishwasher. They are designed so that wine, Champagne, or beer appeals to the nose, eye, touch, and feel, while maximizing aroma and taste. The unique double-bend design outlines the measurement for a perfect pour: the first bend indicates the ideal amount for a wine tasting, the second bend ideal for the average pour size for restaurants and wine connoisseurs. I loved the wine glasses but, even more, I found the beer glass so convincing, so elegant and such a perfect fit to my hand that I doubt I shall ever drink a brew from anything else in the future. The glasses are not inexpensive--they rank with some of the top-of-the-line Riedel--but the Mark Thomas series offers more in terms of design and utility.

MAGELLAN JETS' 10 HOUR GETAWAY CARD--Anyone who has ever flown on a private jet is unlikely to forget the experience and forever regret that he can't always fly at that level of service. Now, just for Father's Day, Magellan Jets is offering Dad (and the family if he'll take them) access to a private jet anywhere in the U.S. with as little as 10 hours' notice, with a pool of nine different jets to choose from. The company has 24/7 concierge service to advise on the appropriate size jet (prices vary), plan or change itineraries, order catering and arrange ground transportation. Purchases can be made through Father's Day 2015 and the card is valid for travel through Father's Day, 2016. Call Magellan Jets at 877-550-JETS or by visiting www.magellanjets.com

2015-06-14-1434304362-473166-shavetechlogosize.jpg
SHAVETECH USB RECHARGEABLE TRAVEL SHAVER ($29.99)--Outside of jet lag, the drained, off-putting icky feeling getting off a plane might be considerably helped if a man could quickly shave without lathering up back in the bumpy lavatory or depressing airport men's room. If you can get to your electric shaver, which I doubt many men carry, it's a noisy business and probably needs an electric outlet to work. Shavetech has come up with an electric shaver that is not only easily rechargeable but looks as sleek as an iPhone but smaller. It's not quite as powerful as some electric shavers but it's a lot less bulky, lighter, and really pretty cool. The outer foil and inner blades are replaceable.

HIGH SPIRITS--There are always new spirits coming on the market, sometimes reprises of older lines that Dads cherished. Those who are fans of peaty, smoky Scotch (though less so than the label's 10 Year Old) should cheer at the return of Laphroaig 15 Year Old ($79.99), just re-released after 30 years for a limited time, in honor of Laphroaig's 200th Anniversary. This Single Malt Scotch is bottled for export at a higher 43 percent alcohol...

Heretofore unavailable in the U.S., Six Saints Rum ($37) takes its name from six of Grenada's parishes, where rum has been produced since 1785; the distillery, one of two on the island, is the last of the West Indies to actively export their spirits. Made in small artisanal batches, Six Saints has medium body, 41.7 percent alcohol, and if you close your eyes, you may sense a hint of the Spice Islands. . . .

Haig Whiskey, which dates to 1824, known for its Gold Label and Pinch, is now selling Haig Club ($25-$45), in a beautiful sea-blue square blue bottle, made from a blend of three grain whiskeys, each matured in different types of casks and unfiltered. Soccer star David Beckham is the public face of this, the first new offering from Haig in more than 30 years, and, bottled at 40 percent alcohol, it's designed for easy drinking and intended to woo younger drinkers

Skip the tie; step away from the socks.

This Father’s Day, avoid gifting a generic, last-minute present and give your dad something he will love. Check out the list below for creative ideas you can either buy or make.

And remember, a Father's Day gift should celebrate the man and his interests -- even if one of those interests happens to be potato chips.

Ava Duvernay Blasts Man For Touching Her Hair -- As She Should

Here we go again.

Just last week an "old man" took it upon himself to touch "Mad Men" actress Teyonah Parris' hair without permission and now film director Ava Duvernay has her own hairy situation to share.

Duvernay, who is the first black female director to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award , found herself at the end of one man's prying hands over the weekend when he touched her long, lovely locks without asking. Of course this is not a huge violation of personal space, but it's also a hot topic when it comes to touching black women's hair. In short, don't do it.

The "Selma" director shared her ordeal over Twitter. Here's what she said went down:

We repeat: Do not touch someone else's hair without permission. Please and thank you.

Katy Perry is the new face of Moschino and looks gorgeous wearing the line's fall-winter collection.

Perry took to Instagram to share six photos from the latest ad campaign. The 30-year-old superstar rocks the Kris Jenner hairstyle that had her fans talking back in April, along with an array of colorful threads in the ads photographed by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. In one snapshot, Perry goes nearly naked, wearing a strategically placed fur coat.

The "Teenage Dream" singer is friends with Moschino designer Jeremy Scott. Scott designed her attire for the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show.
