Kylie Jenner And Tyga Bring Their Romance To New York Fashion Week

Now that Kylie Jenner and Tyga can openly parade their relationship, they don't hold back.

The two brought their romance to New York Fashion Week on Saturday night for the Alexander Wang runway show. The appearance marks their debut as a couple at NYFW.

Kylie channeled her downtown cool-kid in a black mini dress/blazer hybrid and a pair of platform boots, while Tyga kept things a little more casual in rolled-up khakis, a matching button-down shirt, white sneakers and, of course, his gold chains and grill.

Following the show, the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star had a "much needed girls night" with a few of her friends. Because when you're Kylie Jenner, life's a party.

Scent of a Man: Three Life-Changing Discoveries at Pitti Fragranze

I think hidden within the soul of this cultural blogger, inside the heart of a devoted cinema writer, there has been a fragrance lover hiding all along. As soon as I stood at the door of the Stazione Leopolda in Florence, waiting for my contact to print out credentials so I could finally enter the magical world of Pitti Fragranze, I felt a pang of enthusiasm, of nearly unbearable joy. Here I stood at the gates of what is the equivalent of a candy-slash-toy-store for a grown woman with a sensitive nose and a love of memories. But what awaited me on the inside was more than even I could ever imagine.

Pitti Fragranze is often covered by fashion writers and beauty experts, with a few proper "noses" (slang for perfumers, those who can identify and create various scents) thrown in. While that works, I also found within this new world a wonderful new lingo, one I can't wait to begin using. Terminologies that include romantic words like "notes" -- referring to the single scent elements that can be detected in a perfume. Notes are divided in three, the top or head note, the first "color" of a perfume you'll smell usually, the middle or heart note, which appear after the initial evaporation on the skin (from two minutes to an hour) and the base note, which like the foundation of a building, will lend depth and solidity to a fragrance. Referring to the actual perfume liquid as "juice," also tickled me pink. And realizing that scent is an art, and should be appreciated as such, was the best find of all!

2015-09-14-1442214019-8553058-VanniBassetti.jpg

In fact, while at Pitti Fragranze, I met Chandler Burr, the world-renowned NY Times perfume critic, author and curator of olfactory art. It is Burr who has been instrumental in creating within me a life-changing connection with scent, one that transcended my mundane use of perfume, and even the memories I associate with smells, and unearthed a movement to view its creation as an art, much like architecture, complete with its own fascinating terminology, experts and following. I'll go as far as saying that from now on, I will refer to the art of fragrance as the "eighth art" since the seventh position has already been occupied by cinema. For Fragranze 13, Burr curated an interactive exhibit of visual art from all ages and disciplines combined with scent, an installation inside the Stazione Leopolda that inspired and uplifted, while also instructing. My favorite kind of art!

Burr's generosity in sharing his expert views and ideas changed my own, redirected my love of scent. I sat next to him scribbling notes during a phone interview he was holding and began to understand his passion. He is a true curator, he goes beyond labels and professions to create a cult of fragrance that we can all learn from. Personally, I know when I meet a man without a scent he seems much like a woman without a sense of self: there, dressed, good to go, yet uninteresting. If cinema is my love, then scent is my craving. I think in my entire life I've gone out without putting on perfume only twice, and both of those times it was an oversight, out of rushing. Once on the street, out in the world I felt naked and incomplete without it.

2015-09-14-1442214063-7311751-Toto.jpg

Changing it up a bit, Antonio de Curtis, known as Totò, is probably the best known comic actor in the history of Italian cinema but also someone who wore a signature scent, the same cologne all his life. Originally made for him in Grasse, the holy land of perfume, when Totò died, the scent could have gone with him. To a half-Neapolitan, proud daughter of the south of Italy like me, losing the elegance that was this Prince who was born nearly a pauper and throughout his life fought for recognition of his blue blood title, would be like losing a treasure. But Mansfield -- the company which produces the scents for Marinella, the world-famous brand of elegant neckties also from Naples -- found a way to recreate the scent. With only an old bottle of oxidized "juice" brought into their shop by Totò's daughter Liliana de Curtis, the brand's noses recreated the actor's cologne and called it, appropriately and elegantly, Antonio de Curtis. Rounding out the collection are Principe and a female companion scent called Malafemmena, the title of a song Totò dedicated to his wife Diana Bandini.

2015-09-14-1442214097-6163490-IMG_1551.jpg

Finally, last but definitely not least, the meeting that most deeply touched me was with Italian actor, TV personality and perfumer Luca Calvani. A fellow Tuscan, currently featured in Guy Ritchie's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and a believer in spirituality as a means to explore our complex nature, Calvani created -- along with his business partner Olivia Mariotti -- an assortment of four candles and five fragrances that blew me away. Spicy, heady, trippy, sensual, inspirational and fresh, his Inspiritu collection offers all I crave from scent and more.

Calvani himself cannot be described with words. He's everything his fragrances promise and then some. His generosity in explaining the line require that I devote to him an entire piece and I promise to post his interview in the days ahead. Meanwhile, I will leave you with some of his words of wisdom. Uplifting quotes that enlightened this blogger, such as on the origin of the word "enthusiastic" which comes from "the Greek "enthuse," and translates as 'possessed by a god, inspired'," Calvani explained.

And my personal favorite, "religion divides us, while spirituality unites us." Inspiritu rules!

The True Talent This Woman Didn't Know She Had Until Her 60s

I first met Vivian O’Shaughnessy in the basement of Cornelia Street Café, a restaurant and performance space in Greenwich Village for musicians, poets, writers and other creative types. I waitress there on Sunday evenings and when Vivian walked in, I couldn’t help but take notice.

Vivian is an artist and a poet. Most recently, she taught herself how to handwrite braille. (She's not blind, just curious.) Not only did she learn how to write braille, she also figured out a way to braille her drawings and paintings.

At age 78, Vivian is a charming combination of wisdom and exuberance that, as a 24-year-old, I found completely captivating. There are so many more complimentary things I could say about her, but to feel her warmth, you should really see for yourself.

The Secret To Perfect Polka Dot Nails Is Inside Your Toolbox

We are amazed at how imaginative manicurists are, particularly backstage at New York Fashion Week. Forced to work within tight time constraints as models are being moved around like they're in a game of musical chairs, the simplest objects help to create difficult nail art. Like the nail heads used for polka dot nails at Adam Selman's Spring 2016 show.

Sally Hansen Global Color Ambassador Madeline Poole attached a construction nail to a No. 2 pencil eraser then dipped it into Complete Salon Manicure in Dark Hue-mor (an inky blue shade) to "paint haphazardly-placed dots."

With Selman's frilly and feminine collection, Poole wanted to give the girls' manicures a "tomboy edge." She explained, "The look feels as if the girls painted it on themselves with a marker."

To get the perfect polka dot every single time, Poole made sure not to apply too much polish to nail head. Then, she gently pressed it onto bare nails before sealing the design with a shiny top coat.

See more photos of the polka dot nails from Adam Selman's Spring 2016 show below, and share your DIY manicure hacks in the comments section.

Vogue Launches First-Ever Podcast, Hosted By André Leon Talley

While listening to the radio might seem archaic, podcasts have taken over as one of the most exciting, creative and, dare we say, chic forms of communication.

With that said, it was only a matter of time before Vogue decided to grace the airwaves with its distinctively stylish presence. Today marks the launch of the publication's first-ever podcast.

The task of chatting with fashion's biggest designers and Hollywood's brightest stars has been given to Vogue's contributing editor, André Leon Talley.

"I've been a longtime storyteller at Vogue and it's just another format for telling stories -- as at Vogue, we love to tell the story of style, fashion, and what is absolutely a part of the culture at the moment," Talley told The Huffington Post.

The inaugural episode features none other than Vogue's legendary editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who waxes poetic about Givenchy's first New York Fashion Week show, Beyoncé, and who also gives her opinion on Kanye West's alleged quest for the presidency.

"We are anticipating wonderful, informal, and relaxed conversations," Talley explained. "We are looking forward to this as an interesting format for showcasing people that we celebrate, who are accomplished -- home, food, style, fashion, personality, celebrities -- we are open for every single thing."

So who is on Talley's dream guest list?

"My dream guest would be Rihanna," Talley told HuffPost. "And another dream guest would be Kanye West. He's very much a prolific talker -- he tells a story if you give him the format. So I imagine it would be a very long marathon of a podcast."

But A-list celebs won't be the only ones filling Vogue's podcast airwaves. Talley is also interested in speaking to luminaries like Margo Jefferson, the author of "Negroland" -- a book that was recently gifted to him by Anna Wintour.

Sounds like perfection.

The Hysterical Reason Brad Goreski Wants Nick Jonas On 'Fashion Police'

Brad Goreski wants Nick Jonas to join him on the "Fashion Police" couch for a very specific -- and good! -- reason: "So he can sing to me the whole time!"

In a HuffPost conversation on Friday, Goreski said the heartthrob could offer some colorful commentary on the show. For example, Jonas "could say, like, 'Oh my god, this outfit's got me so jealous,'" the "Fashion Police" co-host joked, referring to Jonas' hit song.

"Or he could say, like, 'Oh my God, this outfit's got me in chains,'" Goreski continued.  "Or he could say, like, 'You know what I love about this outfit? There are just so many levels, levels, levels!' Right?"

Goreski identifies as a "Nick Jonas super fan," and claims the 22-year-old hottie is well aware of it.

"I've told him," he admitted, adding that he's usually "like a total sweating weirdo" when he comes into contact with the youngest Jonas brother.

Brad, we feel ya.

Kim Kardashian Launches Website And App, Expects You To Pay For It

It's here, and you have to pay for it.

After months of hype, Kim Kardashian finally launched her new website and accompanying app, which offers beauty tutorials, live streams, look breakdowns, and behind-the-scenes photos from Kim's personal collection.  But you'll have to shell out $2.99/month if you want see some of it. (UPDATE: Khloe Kardashian as well as Kylie and Kendall Jenner all launched their own paid apps, too. )

Like those beauty tutorials, for example. Leaning to contour like a Kardashian does not come for free, even though there are thousands of videos on YouTube that show the same technique, including videos from Kim's own makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, who is featured in the paid tutorial. There are also near-nude photos from behind-the-scenes shoots, not shockingly only for those who have "unlocked" Kim's world.

Of course, some things are free -- like her pregnancy diary, in which she reveals to fans that, as of last month, the baby-to-be is the size of a "small banana." Fascinating stuff.

And now you have one more way to keep up with Kim.

Duchess Of Cambridge Debuts New Bangs, Internet Explodes

The Duchess of Cambridge's new look is a royal win.

Prince William and his wife drove to church Sunday morning, as two church-going people do. It was all business as usual, except for (gasp!) one very important change: Kate's iconic hair.

The duchess, who has kept a mostly low profile since giving birth to Princess Charlotte in May, looked adorably chic in a black turtleneck, brown coat and some new face-framing fringe bangs.

The look is a refreshing departure from the side-parted locks she's been rocking lately, and the Internet wasted no time spreading the excitement, heralding the bangs' "great return" as "sensible" and "chic":

We can't wait to see what she -- and her hair -- step out in next.

Lessons I've Learned Since Coming Out

This article is part of an on-going original series written by Caitlyn Jenner for WhoSay called "The Real Me," which explores issues and people in the LGBT community.

sadfas
(Caitlyn Jenner and the producers and crew of "I Am Cait" celebrating the wrap of the last episode of the show)

Hello friends. Caitlyn here. As the first season of my show, "I Am Cait," comes to end, I find myself reflecting on my journey so far and just how rewarding it has been.

My experience over the last four months has been incredible. Many people have come up to me and told me their stories. It turns out lots of you have friends or family members who are transgender. Who knew? I never would have had these conversations if I had not come out publicly and finally lived my truth. For so long, people -- myself included -- were embarrassed to talk about transgender issues and now we finally have an open dialogue happening. That's amazing progress in and of itself.

While I could write a novel on everything I've learned over the last several months, here are a few things that I'd like to share:

First of all, I've never experienced acceptance quite like that I've received from the transgender community. Even though my experience is far from the norm, this group of people has welcomed me with open arms -- and I am eternally grateful to them.

The conversations I've had with my new friends (many of which you witnessed on the show) are some of my favorite moments that I've had since transitioning. Jenny Boylan, Candis Cayne, Chandi Moore, all of the girls... I have loved getting to know them and receiving their advice. Thanks to them, I have gained so much knowledge about this community. That's why it's so important to me that many trans voices are part of "I Am Cait." I want viewers to hear many different points of view, and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate their openness.

sdfds
(Caitlyn Jenner and her new friends at her naming ceremony)

One of the many lessons that these fabulous women have taught me is that -- despite all being transgender -- they each feel differently about particular issues. It's important to have an open dialogue with the trans people in your life about their unique viewpoints and not lump us all together. Just because I think something is funny or appropriate, doesn't mean that all trans people feel the same way and vice versa. I can only speak from my own personal experience and in no way can I represent the entire trans community. My opinion is just that, my own opinion. There's no one way to be trans!

Perhaps the most surprising and shocking thing for me has been to learn about the number of problems the transgender community faces. Up until my transition, I had never met another openly trans person. Job discrimination, sex work, ostracism from families, horrific violence... I had no idea what so many people go through to live as their true selves. It is staggering.

While I'm far from perfect and will make some mistakes along the way, I've made it my life goal to help the wonderful people in this community. Trans rights are about 30 years behind gay rights (and look at the incredible progress we've made there!). We've got a lot more work to do in the trans community, but we're getting closer. As Chandi reminds me, "We have to save one soul at a time."

asdfas
(Caitlyn Jenner and friends meeting Boy George backstage at his concert)

I want to help each of you understand something that I only recently embraced: Being different is okay -- in fact, it's great! But I also understand it takes some getting used to. Like many people, there was a time when I didn't realize how important it is for gay couples to have the right to get married. But after hearing from my gay friends and learning more about the hardships they faced because of discrimination, it became clear to me that everyone should be able to marry the person they love. I can only hope that by sharing my story, there's someone out there whose mind has been changed about trans people.

Because regardless of whether you are transgender or not, we all have stuff to deal with in our lives. To have the courage to overcome obstacles and be your authentic self is an amazing process to go through. I want you to believe in yourself and know that you can deal with it. You can be okay.

Many of you have written and asked what's next for me. I'm going to take breather for a minute. I want to continue to grow as a person. In so many ways I feel like I'm a teenage girl discovering herself! I'm still trying to figure out what it means to be a woman and I will continue that process. Because you know what? It's a lot of fun!

Let the journey continue...

Until next time,
Cait

Photographer Captures The Essence Of Barbershops In Eye-Opening Gifs

$
0
0

Barbershops tend to hold a special place in the black community. Often times they are more than just haircutting businesses: they are a safe place for fellowship, learning and camaraderie. They are, in essence, cultural hubs in the black community.

"Tapered Throne" is a new project by a young Oakland-based photographer who understands this. Brandon Tauszik, 28, has spent the past four years documenting black barbershops in the city through a photo essay of gifs.

Tauszik's interest in independent, black-owned storefront barbershops led him to form a relationship with the barbers and patrons inside. "It wasn't something other than what you see glorified in Hollywood by Ice Cube," he told The Huffington Post, referencing "The Barbershop" comedic film franchise produced by and starring rapper Ice Cube.

Tauszik began the project in 2011, photographing nearly 20 various barbershops in the past four years. Initially, the photo series wasn't about documenting black barbershops, but given the large African-American population in Oakland, Tauszik says the direction of the project changed.

"I think these barbers are doing what they can to foster and nurture identity and strengthen it with love and support and offering these really intentional spaces," Tauszik said.

There’s a connection that happens, at least from what I’ve observed, a little deeper than if you were to see a still photo.
Brandon Tauszik

Tauszik said he walked into these barbershops unannounced with his tripod and equipment with the hope that barbers and their clientele would be receptive to his project. Tauszik would later return and deliver stills to the barbershop.

"Every single time I walked into these shops I was welcomed warmly and given freedom to shoot and to chat with anyone, and I think breaking down that invisible barrier was cathartic in some way to me and challenged my own perceptions," Tauszik said.

The images Tauszik captured are all portrayed as gifs, which is perhaps the most striking aspect of the series. Tauszik's gifs show barbers blinking, breathing and lining up their customers with clippers, all of which bring life to the images. It's something he says a single still image or video edit can't really do.

"I think [gifs] also create a little bit of a hypnotic exchange. You kind of lock there, you sit there with a barber," Tauszik said. "I think there’s a connection that happens, at least from what I’ve observed, a little deeper than if you were to see a still photo."

There is a special message that Tauszik hopes viewers will be able to take away from the project, especially given all the recent events in America's black community.

"I would hope that viewers would get into these spaces with this project and maybe challenge their perspective on how they see black men in their own life," he said.

Breastfeeding Mom Is 'Humiliated' After Being Told To Nurse In Marshalls Bathroom Stall

$

Oregon mom Karina Gomez says she was "humiliated" when a Marshalls store employee instructed her to breastfeed her baby in a bathroom stall.

In a viral Facebook photo post, the mom writes, "Yes, this is me sitting on a toilet feeding my sweet, Katalina Maria, after I was denied my right to breastfeed where I wanted to by a #marshalls employee. I was denied to breastfeed in a dressing room, instead I was directed to a bathroom stall to breastfeed."

"What a way to treat breastfeeding customers, shaming them for breastfeeding, making them feel embarrassed that you need to feed your child," Gomez continues. "I am angry, upset, but more so humiliated. My rights have been violated."

The mom's post has been shared over 14,000 times in just two days, and the comment section has over 2,600 responses. Many commenters condemned the employee's actions as illegal and suggested that Marshalls take a cue from Target's breastfeeding policy, which calls for total support for nursing moms.

A Marshalls representative apologized to Gomez in a Facebook comment directing her to call the company's Customer Service Team during weekday work hours. But several parents were not satisfied with this response, noting that the mom should receive a more direct apology and immediate communication from the company, rather than having to wait two days to call Customer Service.

In a statement emailed to The Huffington Post, a Marshalls spokesperson said:

We have a breast feeding policy in place which instructs Associates to allow customers to breastfeed as they choose within stores. We have looked into this matter and regret that it may not have been followed in this instance. We have been in touch directly with the customer involved so we may resolve the matter. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Given the employee's failure to follow protocol, a local Portland moms group organized a nurse-in at the Marshalls Cascade Station location, where the incident occurred. "They need to train their employees. I think all retail, restaurants, they need to be more aware of how to approach situations like this, and be more appropriate," organizer Julianna Gjerman told KGW. The nurse-in is scheduled to take place later Monday at 11:30 a.m. local time.

Antonio Banderas Wants To Make Men's Capes For A Living. Seriously.

It's back to school for Zorro Antonio Banderas

After announcing his interest in fashion design back in April, the actor has now shed more light on his enrollment at esteemed art and design university Central Saint Martins in London.

In an interview with CSM's magazine 1Granary, Banderas revealed one of his goals during his time at the school: to bring capes (yes, capes) back to menswear.

The idea actually makes total sense, seeing as Banderas, who told the magazine he has been in "92 movies" and whose perfume collection is sold in "93 countries," is basically a superhero.

The 55-year-old actor said that it's the cape's convenience that inspired him to bring it back. "For me, it's actually easier than a coat, you walk into a place and you just BOOM! Throw it off," he said.

We weren't under the impression that it was so difficult to take off a coat, but we do know where his love of the garment might have come from:

"There are all these varieties of capes. For example, in the time of Charles the Third in Spain, capes were an instrument to kill -- and to cover yourself. People used to do this (makes Zorro move) and nobody would know who you were. So they used to cut the capes and do these short capes, because it was forbidden by the law to wear long capes at night. You can experiment with colors, textures, you can do a number of things. And it is in a way so logical, coming from Zorro!" he said.

Hey, we know at least one person who will be lining up to get his hands on a cape by Banderas.

Half-Assed Chignons Are The Laziest But Coolest Fashion Week Hairstyle

$

"Effortless" is a word we keep hearing to describe the disheveled 'dos that keep cropping up on the runways of New York Fashion Week, though that's an imperfect descriptor.

Models strutted down the Spring 2016 runways of Marissa Webb, Osklen, Nicholas K and Giulietta wearing what we're calling "half-assed chignons." Though the style may look haphazard, it obviously took teams of hairstylists more than five minutes to create these messy knots and twists. Still, we love the laid-back aesthetic of this hair trend -- it's a look that anyone can do at home and still appear pulled-together and stylish.

Scroll down to check out the half-assed chignons we spotted backstage at New York Fashion Week, and find out how to recreate the hairstyle with our insider tips.

The Fashion Week Trend You Can Wear Right Now

Fashion week is arguably the best and worst time of year for style editors. We love it because it's eight days chock-full of gorgeous clothes, cool parties and amazing street style, but we hate it because we don't make seven figures and can't afford to buy it all.

Another complaint of ours, besides the outrageously expensive clothes, are the trends that only work on one very specific body type. So, whenever we spot a trend that works on basically every woman and is something we can potentially afford, it's worth noting (and celebrating).

And this season, we've already noticed one major trend: The belted jacket/blazer. Not only does it make any outfit look more polished and put together, but it gives everyone a more defined shape. And the best part? You don't have to wait until spring 2016 to try it out!

Check out all the designers who are showing belted jackets and blazers and shop some of our favorites below.

Alabama Saggy Pants Ban: 'God Would Not Go Around With Pants Down'

A community in Alabama is on the verge of banning saggy pants -- and one lawmaker said it's because God doesn't like the look.

"I prayed about this," Dadeville City Council member Frank Goodman said at last week's council meeting, according to the Alexander City Outlook. "I know that God would not go around with pants down.”

Goodman told The Daily Beast that seeing saggy pants was "something I couldn't take no more."

So he asked God for some guidance on the issue.

“He would show me this saggy pant -- it’s one of the things He did not do," he told the website. "It is not in His orders to do that to gain eternal life.”

Goodman also said it's a matter of respect.

“I think slacking is disrespectful," he said, according to the Outlook. "I think it gives our younger generation the wrong impression of what is cool.”

The proposed pants ban hit a snag when it was pointed out that it could be unfairly applied to men and not to women. As a result, the proposal is being rewritten to include short skirts.

“My concern is it should be for everybody,” council member Stephanie Kelley said at the meeting, according to the Outlook. “I think for the girls, with these shorts up so high looking like under garments and dresses so short, I don’t want us to be showing favoritism.”

The town's lawyer is expected to present the wording of the ban at an upcoming meeting. The ban would then go to a vote.

Several other communities have banned saggy pants over the years, including Opa-Locka, Florida, and Wildwood, New Jersey

The Stars Who Taught Us How To Wear Red Lipstick

Nothing makes us feel sexier than wearing red lipstick. It's amazing how something that's packaged in a tiny tube can bring about a sense of grandeur. Plus, it's way more affordable than a pair of red-bottom Christian Louboutin heels.

Since the 1940s, red lipstick was one of the key symbols of feminine glamour, according to Lipstick Queen creator Poppy King. "Red lipstick and finger-curled hair was a woman's crowing glory in the '40s and served as a symbol of power and ability. During the war, there was even a term ('Rosie the Riveter') for the power woman had with their hair and red lipstick in place to do any job or task that was needed, regardless of difficulty," said King.

When we think of red lipstick, famous faces such as Marilyn Monroe, Dita Von Teese and Gwen Stefani come to mind. And we can't help but try to recreate their glossy, matte and satin red lip looks. But King believes that the ideal of red lipstick has changed over the years, transforming from a must-have standard for women into a niche product that many women are reluctant to wear.

She explained, "It is a very misunderstood product in that women assume you need confidence to wear red lipstick when actually red lipstick gives you confidence, but you need to get past the mental block."

"Many women also feel that when you red lipstick you need to wear a full face of makeup like in the '80s when you wore red lipstick with technicolor eyeshadow, big hair and shoulder pads. Ever since the '90s, we have been emancipated from this overdone look and the fear is to go back. Yet, red lipstick worn in the 21st century version of glamour is worn with minimal makeup so that the look is relaxed glamour that makes it chic rather than retro," said King.

King's advice for finding the perfect shade of lipstick? Try as many as possible. "You will realize which ones complement your hair, skin and eyes. The right shades make it look as though your whole face has lit up. If they don't have that effect, then that red isn't the best for you," she said. "And do your eye makeup after putting on the red lipstick -- less eye makeup looks better while wearing red lipstick."

Nurses are pretty much unstoppable, but every so often, they get pissed off like the rest of us. Endless hospital shifts, vomiting patients and not enough time to pee will do that to a person.

To figure out just what makes them tick, we spoke to a number of nurses and rounded up a few pet peeves we've seen circulating on Facebook. Pseudonyms and nicknames were given to protect the overworked and tired.

Without further ado, here are the things that get under nurses' skin the most:

1. "When patients confuse the hospital with a hotel." -- Ruth

No, we can't get you snacks and a bathrobe. But we can get you back to health. How about that?

2. "When you just changed your scrubs and they get dirty again." --  Peg
Shout out to vending machine coffee!

3. "When you forget your ID badge and aren't able to get through any doors for the day." -- Linda

Can someone swipe me in again? Please?

4. "When the hospital makes new rules about not being able to work so many days in a row and it kills your vacation plans." -- Cindy

Barbados, we'll meet again next year.

5. "When you lose your damn pen." -- Ann

It's in some pocket somewhere!

I'm running through the halls for a reason, people!

7. "When people come to the desk instead of pressing the call light." -- Linda

Use the call light and then you will have my full attention.

"Yep I'll be back in a little bit! Yep! Bye! See you soon! Uh-huh. Got it. Bye again!"

9. "When family members try to work around the rules, like sneaking in small children" -- Peg

There are rules for a reason and you aren't the exception!

If you're really at 10, you'd be dead.

11. "When the patient diagnoses themselves with Internet information before coming in." -- Indo

WebMD is not your doctor -- and neither is Google.

12. When someone says, "It's really quiet tonight," and you know that they just jinxed it.

*Fingers crossed.*

13. "When you show someone where to get drinks and they continue to expect you to serve them." -- Cindy

I am not your waiter or waitress, I am your NURSE.

14. "When someone makes an appointment and then doesn't show up." -- Ruth

Oh, just TRY to reschedule your appointment with me now!

15. "When you never have enough time to eat, pee, sleep, etc..." -- Ann

So much coffee, so little time to use the bathroom.

16. "When a patient throws up on you." -- Cindy

It happens all too often.

NOOOO! That was my "person!"

18. "When patients notify me that a vital sign I'm monitoring is off or a drug I'm grabbing is needed." -- Linda

Trust me, I'm on it. This is my job, remember?

19. "When you realize you have an enormous amount of paperwork to complete." -- Indo

It's so important and yet so time consuming.
