Weirdest Ad Ever: H&M, Pseudo-Sustainability and Diversity Porn

$
0

The world's second largest fashion retailer recently made a deliberate move to attract members of the world's second largest religion, and people have taken notice.

More specifically, H&M featured a Muslim hijabi woman for a split second in this video advertising spot that deftly disguises a sly cost-saving measure as an eco-friendly call for "sustainable fashion."

The spot concludes, "Leave your unwanted garments in any of our 3,300 stores. We reuse them or recycle them into new clothes. Recycling one single t-shirt saves 2,100 litres of water." Makes you wonder how much money it saves H&M -- though unsurprisingly, the ad doesn't say.

More notably, the ad includes a sort of festival of other "others," resulting in an awkward spectacle of diversity porn that begs to be shared and tweeted by all those progressive and freethinking folks who have no problem letting multinational companies into their hearts, minds and closets.

The H&M "Close the Loop" ad's cast of characters is extensive, painfully contrived and devoid of context. Aside from the hijabi model, Mariah Idrissi, the short spot also features the following parade of corporately manufactured diversity:

Eleven Sikh men in multicolored turbans, a white woman over 40 who dares to wear a short skirt while lying on a bed with a blond black woman and reaching her arm out to a young tuxedoed white man sitting on the floor, an ethnically ambiguous man sporting a five o'clock shadow and a skirt, two black women in red hats, a trans woman in a drugstore aisle wearing ornate body armor, another trans woman looking at herself in the mirror, a full-figured white woman filling a parking meter while daring to mix red and pink, a couple Latinas in black overalls and excess eyeliner sitting on a red sports car with palm trees and an RV parked in the background, a sheikh (or so the voiceover claims), a blond white woman wearing short shorts and a bustier as she poses unnaturally on top of a sink, a shirtless (and apparently commando) Iggy Pop holding a running garden hose, a boxer (human, not K9) with a prosthetic leg and so much more.

Yes, it's absurd. Yes, it's random. And yes, it's calculated. Like any shrewd retailer, H&M wants you to buy their products, no matter your race, religion, size, age or gender identity. While I strongly support more and better media representations of Muslims, Sikhs, members of the LGBT community, older women and people of color, I'm not about to commend H&M here. For one, their most prominent ads still tend to feature unnaturally thin white women.

More importantly though, squeezing as many minorities as possible into a single one-and-a-half-minute clip full of badly executed stereotypes is not an ideal way to go about promoting genuine diversity or acceptance. If anything, such tactics tend to further otherize and exoticize members of the different minority groups represented by lumping them all together and limiting their inclusion elsewhere amid the majority.

Listening to the ad's creepy voiceover (courtesy of Iggy Pop), I noticed the single hijabi model is linked to the term "chic," while the white woman posing on top of a sink (sex blogger Karley Sciortino) is linked to the term "liberated." While the Muslimah may in fact look chic, the white woman doesn't look all that liberated, given her shorts and bustier appear to restrict healthy circulation.

All this to say, I highly doubt H&M has any interest in true diversity or feminist liberation. H&M is a multinational company, and its interest is in maximizing profits. If you don't believe me, just ask Human Rights Watch or any of the Cambodian women or children H&M has employed for next to nothing.

As a Muslim woman who chooses not to wear hijab, I maintain great respect for my Muslim sisters who choose to wear it, whether they're models or not. For many Muslimahs who choose to cover their hair, the hijab is not simply a symbol of modesty or piety, but a symbol of feminism itself -- a concept brilliantly related by writer Hanna Yusuf in this video blog for The Guardian.

Feminist hijabi women like Hanna are not just opting out of rigid Western standards of beauty by choosing to cover; many are also opting out of the consumerist culture that perpetuates such standards. This powerful act of resistance threatens advertisers and corporations that rely on their constructed notions of beauty -- often based in perceived heterosexual male fantasies -- to sell all sorts of products. For that revolutionary act alone, I have to give a loud shout-out to those of my hijabi sisters who have refused to be complicit in the blatant commodification of our bodies and the corporate infiltration of our minds. We may not choose to fight this fight in the same way, but there is no doubt that we are in it together.

5 Beauty Subscription Boxes Made Especially For Women Of Color

Target, Ulta and Walgreen's have expanded their beauty aisles in the past three years to include more makeup, hair care and skincare options for women of color. But even these major retailers fall short of meeting every need. That's where beauty subscription boxes fill a void.

Beauty subscription boxes have completely transformed the way we shop. Instead of wasting money on foundations that might match our skin tone or styling creams that may give us pillow-soft curls, these membership services are a guilt-free way to sample these products.

While there are plenty of beauty subscription boxes sold online, very few are curated with women of color in mind, or come packaged with more than one sample that addresses their concerns. Thankfully, we've come across a select few that have managed to get it right, including CurlBox and the new Essence Beauty Box.

According to Essence Beauty and Style Director Pamela Edwards Christiani, "getting these products into the hands of women who may not have known where to find them or knew that they were for them," was a major reason why the publication finally entered the realm of beauty subscription boxes.

She added, "Here we are with years of beauty experience. We touch and feel everything. We want our audience to have that same experience."

Want to try beauty subscription boxes? Here are five that cater specifically to women of color.

Barack And Michelle Obama Celebrate 23rd Wedding Anniversary

President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary on Saturday.

The two were married on Oct. 3, 1992, at Trinity United Church in Chicago. A year later, Michelle apparently forgot the couple's first wedding anniversary.

Over time, Michelle has said that she has learned to forgive some of the president's habits.

"What I've come to find is, you don't sweat the small stuff," she told Ellen DeGeneres in March. "The journey that we've taken together, the fun we've had, the challenges we've faced, the two beautiful children that we're raising -- I kind of give him a pass now when he leaves his socks on the floor or tells that story for the one hundredth time and wants us to laugh at it as if we first heard it."

Happy anniversary!

Delicate Watercolors Combat Oversimplified 'Strong Black Woman' Stereotype

"In my work, I show another side of black women," artist Debra Cartwright explained to The Huffington Post.

The Harlem-based artist creates whispered watercolor portraits of stunning black women that seem to float with a feminine buoyancy, one often ascribed to waifish -- and white -- models in whimsical fashion editorials. This ethereal aesthetic, Cartwright notes, is less often attributed to women of color, who are often stereotyped as tough or powerful.

"There's enough heaviness around black women with stress, societal pressures, beauty standards," the artist noted. "We're seen as 'angry' when we have opinions, our hair [is] 'unprofessional' or 'militant' when it's just how it grows out of our head. I seek to portray us as soft, feminine and carefree. The fluidity of watercolors really lends to that message. I continue loosening my technique with watercolor and it feels even more powerful. Other mediums are too tactile. I love the ethereal quality of that medium."

Cartwright's artwork echoes movements such as Carefree Black Girl, which provides women of color a safe space to play with fashion and beauty, creating an escape from the struggles of the real world. As Jamala Johns explained in a Refinery29 article: "There had been countless conversations with friends where I lamented something along the lines of 'I just want to see brown ladies having a delightful time and riding bicycles -- and maybe having some brunch.'"

Cartwright's lightly stained images still evoke the traditional fashion world tropes -- the windswept hair, doe-eyed gaze, lithe body peeking out from gauzy couture. "My Pinterest is full of Chanel, Dior and Marchesa," said Cartwright.

"It's amazing how companies can sell their luxury products with certain facial expressions and hyper-feminine poses. Unfortunately they rarely include a woman of color, so I create the images I want to see. I make an effort to paint my girls with this dreamy look, this effortless cool allure, carefree confidence. I'm trying to sell my idea in a way; at first to myself, to encourage my own self-confidence. It's amazing and inspiring how people have identified."

As far as inspiration in the fine art realm goes, Cartwright mentioned influences like Kenya-born artist Wangechi Mutu, known for her mangled collages of feminine transfiguration. "The way she makes ugly beautiful is crazy," Cartright says. "I can't get enough of her." She also referenced Kehinde Wiley, whose vibrant portraits inject contemporary black men into ornate art historical portraits.

In the end, Cartwright hopes to challenge the general uniformity too often aligned with black femininity. There is room for strength, of course, but also grace, sensitivity, whimsy. "I hope to combat the strong black woman trope," Cartwright concluded. "I want to portray us as any other woman would want to be represented: feminine, vulnerable, beautiful. There's beauty in embracing femininity."

"Black women deal with so much in this country and around the world," she concluded, "beauty standards, workplace discrimination, police brutality, fighting for basic woman rights. It's insane. These whimsical spaces I paint are a safe space, an escape from all the harshness injected on us daily. I hope that others take solace in my work and just exhale with me."

It's hard to stand out when clustered in a group of fellow Kardashians, but Khloe managed to shine the brightest at the Cosmopolitan 50th Birthday Celebration on Monday night.

The 31-year-old star turned heads in a long-sleeved black top with an ultra-plunging neckline and a black skirt that showed a lot of leg, courtesy of its thigh-high slit.

Meanwhile, the rest of Cosmo's so-called "America's First Family" (save for Kendall) also attended the bash for the magazine that put all of them on the cover of its 50th anniversary issue.

While the Kardashian sisters and their mother, Kris Jenner, all coordinated in black ensembles, youngest member of the family Kylie joked on Instagram that she "didn't get the 'wear all black' email," as she showed up in an all-gray outfit.

Why The Apple Watch Is A Fashion Girl's Dream And Nightmare

$

Before I started wearing the Apple Watch three months ago, I thought I was done with being so connected. A trip to Tulum, Mexico last summer prompted me to make drastic lifestyle changes, including not scrolling through Twitter every second and turning off my work phone once I left the office. But this stylish smartwatch seduced me with its promise to keep me plugged in without reaching for my iPhone.

The relationship I've had with the Apple Watch since July hasn't been a completely healthy one. There are a few features that come with this piece of wearable tech that a fashion and beauty editor like me can either love or loathe.

On one hand, I got to design the look. I don't wear a watch every day, as I prefer gold bangles and brass bracelets. When I do decide to mix it up with a traditional timepiece, I usually wear a 28-millimeter rose gold and navy Marc by Marc Jacobs watch. The Apple Watch's aluminum case is nearly twice the size and quite overwhelming for my tiny wrist. But I can personalize the accessory by choosing my own case, the actual face of the watch and the band, so I don't mind the larger size.

I also like the way the white sport band stands out against my complexion, but it presented challenges when I decided what to wear each morning. I guess it's considered a first world problem when your Apple Watch doesn't match your Fashion Week outfit. I'm sure the addition of the new and sophisticated Hermès Apple Watch is the company's solution to this drawback.

Another feature I loved was the ability to be my own wellness coach, but that also stressed me out. As an amateur runner (read: mostly runs on weekends and when catching a cab to fashion shows or beauty events), I rely on fitness trackers like the Nike Fuelband and Up by Jawbone to maintain my weekly exercise goals. The activity tracker on the Apple Watch takes it to another level by not only keeping tabs on how many minutes I've exercised, calories I've burned (this I can do without) and steps I've taken, but also how often I've stood within 12 hours, which is especially helpful.

There are countless articles on the health benefits of standing but when you work as an online editor, it's not easy to pull yourself away from the desk. Thanks to the haptic technology, which delivers gentle taps, I received a reminder to stand at least once every hour. This feature motivated me to go grab lunch outdoors or schedule a few industry meetings -- two things I rarely do because I am swamped by copy deadlines.

apple watch activity tracker

Even though this data prompted me stay in shape, the stress of not seeing a complete goal "circle" in the colorful calendar on my iPhone stressed me the hell out. And as you can see from the photo above, I took much-needed breaks from the Activity tracker. The red circle represents calories burned, green for minutes of exercise and blue for total hours stood.

The watch also makes some tasks super convenient. I could request an Uber, pay for a latte at Starbucks and track bids on eBay from my wrist. These three things are essential to my daily routine. Well, maybe not shopping on eBay. While I haven't reached Anna Wintour status where a personal assistant could easily manage these tasks, the Apple Watch helps me to fake it until I make it with built-in features such as Apple Pay and downloadable shopping apps.

My only two grievances are that there is a possibility that your bank or credit card company doesn't yet support Apple Pay and not every check-out counter has upgraded to the technology that allows you to tap-and-pay. So I didn't go wallet-free, and made sure to keep my debit card and some cash in a wristlet.

I could also stay on top of my social media game in a less obvious way. This perk went against my entire mission to unplug, but the ability to "like" or post an emoji reply on Instagram was never this simple. Plus, I could see what was trending on Twitter and tweet a reply by whispering directly into the Apple Watch's microphone.

apple watch instagram app

I was able to stay updated in the middle of meetings and still feel as though I was engaging in social media conversations without the embarrassment that comes with pounding on your iPhone while everyone around you watches.

Overall, the Apple Watch is an advanced and attractive smartwatch that cuts down on the number of gadgets I carry. But, it definitely comes with its own baggage.

*Apple loaned an Apple Watch and accessories for review purposes.

Iggy Azalea Wants Nothing To Do With Rita Ora's 'Lady Marmalade' Update

$

The last time Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora collaborated, the world was forced to watch the stars (and their body doubles) do their best "Kill Bill" impressions in Azalea's "Black Widow" music video. The song's opening lyric -- “I’m going to love you / until you hate me” -- has now taken on a whole new meaning.

Ora, the former Jay Z protégé and sometimes sister to Christian Grey, recently invoked the most sacred of pop diva anthems "Lady Marmalade" in hopes of remaking the song with today's stars (no shade to Christina Aguilera). "Lady Marmalade" first debuted on pop airwaves in 1974, but was covered by Pink, Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Lil' Kim in the best performance you've ever seen at the 2001 MTV Movie Awards.

“It’s always been my goal to create another 'Lady Marmalade,'” Ora told The Sun, per NME. “I’m trying to round up the troops. I think it would be me, Miley [Cyrus], Charli XCX -- she’d be fun -- and Iggy [Azalea].”

Azalea, the world's No. 1 punching bag, might have learned something in her year of intense public scrutiny and agreed that some things are better left alone.

Charli XCX took to Twitter to voice her support for the project, but then later deleted her tweet.

No word yet on how Miley Cyrus feels.

Interview With a Beauty Expert: Mariale Marrero

Born in Venezuela, Mariale Marrero is a makeup junkie turned beauty guru who started an all Spanish YouTube channel to cater to a neglected audience. Fast forward six years, her popularity is unreal. With over a million subscribers across three channels, Mariale branded her lifestyle to become one of YouTube's most sought after Hispanic influencers. Her positive, convivial demeanor and easy to follow tutorials make her relatable to her ever growing fan base.

At the peak of her YouTube success, Mariale gained attention from major beauty brands. She has starred in advertisements for Maybelline and Neutrogena and partnered with L'Oreal, MAC Cosmetics and Pantene. Now Mariale is sharing awesome gems like the beauty products she can't live without, how she approaches low self-esteem and how she really feels about her success.

I understand you went to college and majored in biology. Where did the idea to become a YouTube beauty guru come from?

I've always loved make up! For me, it was a way to express myself and do something fun.

I watched tons of YouTube videos in my free time from school and really fell in love with the community. However, I quickly realized that nobody was really speaking to me since I came from a third world country, I couldn't find most of the products that I saw in the videos and couldn't really relate to some of the things being talked about. That's when I thought, there have to be more girls like me out there! Why not make our own community? So I uploaded my first video in Spanish. I always thought a small group of girls might find it, but never figured it would turn into what it is now with viewers all ages from across the world!

How would you describe your professional/personal growth from your first video until now?

I think it has been a complete transformation! I really have evolved with my work, always trying to improve not only my content but also myself and it's really incredible that you get to see it all stored on my YouTube channels.

You've collaborated with some heavy hitters in the beauty industry, (MAC, Maybelline, L'Oreal, Pantene) How does it feel to be sought after by such big names?

I have collaborated with amazing brands and I'm so grateful that these opportunities have been given to me. Growing up in Venezuela, I really learned to take absolutely nothing for granted, you might have something today but not tomorrow so it really does feel great that brands appreciate my work, but to this day I still can't believe that is me! Sometimes I feel like it's a different person that does those things and I think she must be really cool, but me, I'm just a silly girl that spends a lot of time in front of a computer!

What are your future plans for the growth of your brand?

I'm always thinking about ways to improve my content. For me, making my community happy is the most important thing, I always want them to have a smile on their faces while they are watching my videos and I hope to continue to do it!

Who's the most exciting and inspirational person you have met through your job? What have you gained from meeting them?

This is very hard to answer! I think one of the best things about my job is the people I get to meet, they are all so amazing. I love meeting my audience, they always have incredible life stories and I learn so much from them, honestly I can't imagine my life without reading their sweet words everyday!

You always have happy, upbeat energy in your videos. How do you keep yourself so positive?

Thank you! I try to really appreciate what I have, even if it's the smallest things that sometimes we might take for granted, like those around you, a sunny day, a glass of water or a blanket to cover you at night. I believe that to be really happy you just need to appreciate everything and I really try to show that in my videos and hopefully make others happy too.

You have an amazing platform for reaching and encouraging women. What do you say to your fans who are struggling with self-esteem?

It's very hard, but I have been there and I know what it's like. I grew up being bullied by my own family for being fat and ugly so I can understand how things sometimes just seem like they will never get better. I think the most important thing is to focus on yourself and take all the negatives out of your life; those voices saying you are not enough, because you absolutely are!

What's a piece of beauty advice you wish you had known when you were younger?

Less is more, absolutely!! In my teen years I would rock a smokey eye day and night! Now, not so much!

What's one beauty/fashion trend you regret trying?

I don't really regret any! And trust me... I tried some bad ones! I just feel like they make a pretty good laugh now.

How do you beat a bad hair day?

My go to is always a high, sleek pony! Can't beat that!

What beauty products do you keep on hand? What makes them so great?

My #1 is sunscreen, I can't live without it! I especially love tinted sunscreen because not only will it protect your face from hyperpigmentation and signs of aging but also, it makes you look less like a zombie in the morning!

What is your favorite season for fashion/beauty? Why?

I recently moved to the US from Venezuela, there we have summer year round so I didn't really get to play with fashion much. Right now I have been enjoying every season, it's so much fun to switch up my look! Yes, even for winter!

Your skin always glows on camera. What routine do you follow for a flawless complexion?

Thank you so much! I'm crazy about keeping myself hydrated so I drink tons of water and also moisturize religiously. I wear a light moisturizer in the morning, followed by my beloved sunscreen. At night, I wear an oil, serum and moisturizer... Yes, I pile all that on!!!

President Barack Obama became the wedding-crasher-in-chief this weekend after a round of golf at Torrey Pines in San Diego.

The president was finishing up his round just as it was time for Brian and Stephanie Tobe's wedding ceremony at The Lodge at Torrey Pines. The 18th hole was near where the wedding altar was going to be.

After Obama finished playing, the bride and groom, who were waiting in a nearby lodge, ran down to the hole where the president was shaking hands with onlookers.

Stephanie Tobe told NBC San Diego that Obama, who recently celebrated his 23rd wedding anniversary, had some advice for her soon-to-be husband: Don't step on the bride's dress.

It's No Surprise That Fashion Designer Rachel Antonoff's Dog Does Clothes So Well But Prefers Being Naked

This week we visit the apartment ofRachel Antonoff the super duper inspired fashion designer and cutie extraordinaire. Although Mrs. Sizzle got lost in the rain she was relieved to get to the cozy apartment with the barking dog, none other than Lafitte Antonoff. Amy Lombard was on hand to photograph and there to help us look stylish was the brilliant DOG & CO.! I had to ask Rachel many questions about this handsome scruffy dude.

Tell us a bit about how you came upon this lover?
I was obsessed with Barkbuddy and kept applying for dogs and not getting them. Danielle from Barkbuddy emailed me saying they had found a little guy with "wobbly legs" at a kill shelter in LA and I fell in love with him the moment I saw his picture. I was in LA and went to meet him. As soon as I saw him I knew he belonged with me!

How did he get his name?
Lafitte was named after my uncle's Bichon.

What does it mean?
I've heard a bunch of different things but the most popular seem to be a famous pirate.

I've loved animals for as long as I can remember.

Do you like dressing him up?
I love dressing him up but he seems happiest in the nude so I typically let him go au natural.

Does he come to the office with you?
He comes to the office a few days a week but he has the greatest time at his daycare so I try to bring him there a few days a week too.

Will you be designing dog clothes anytime soon?
I think so, yes! I got really excited to do it while we were playing dress up at our shoot.

Tell us about the sweater you are wearing in the rain and how you came upon being a fashion designer?
That is the Randy Reproductive Sweater, actually named after my good friend's gynocologist Randy. I have been designing for roughly eleven years and fell into it in a really strange way. I always designed in my head but it wasn't until my early 20s that I thought to really attempt it. A friend and I relayed our ideas to my childhood neighbor in New Jersey, Marlene Sapoff, who sewed us three samples which we immediately photographed and cold emailed to random editors. We were mostly ignored but one editor, Jane Keltner, emailed back and had us into Teen Vogue to show her our three samples. She called Megan Mitchell at Barneys and scheduled an appointment for us and thus began the weirdest year of my life. I really got my education from being thrown into the deep end with no formal training.

I hear Amy Lombard just shot your look book for Spring 2016! How did that happen?
I have been a fan of Amy's for a while now. I first met her when she shot my brother and I for Nylon last year and she was just such a pleasure to work with. She seemed like a really natural fit for the lookbook and we were so excited she was into. She is really very talented andI love the images so much!! Here is a sneak peek:

Bella Hadid Wants You To Stop Comparing Her To Her Supermodel Sister

Bella Hadid has really made a name for herself in the modeling industry. The 19-year-old has walked some of the biggest runways (like DVF, Tommy Hilfiger and Tom Ford, to name a few), starred in Balmain ads and even made a few supermodel BFFs in the process. And this month, she can add another accomplishment to the list, as she's gracing the cover of Seventeen magazine's November issue

Inside the issue, the model opens up about the inevitable comparisons to her older sister (and mega-model), Gigi. "I just have to remind myself that she’s been doing this forever," the brunette beauty told Seventeen. "I can’t keep comparing myself to her because we’re so different. But people still love to compare and contrast us -- what’s better about her or what’s not that good about me -- and it’s hard because people are really mean. But I’m her biggest supporter, and she’s my biggest supporter. We’re not competitive at all."

Bella also sounded off about her 'model' diet: “I eat a lot of pizza and really unhealthy food. I definitely gain weight and I’m not naturally thin. I’m really self-conscious if I go to trainers, so I just do stuff on my own. I go on the treadmill or do yoga and Pilates if I can." Well, the more you know.

Why You Should Avoid Wearing Heavy Earrings

Oversized hoop and statement earrings are easy ways to glam up your look with minimal effort, but wearing big baubles does have its drawbacks. Besides getting caught in your hair or clothes, these stylish accessories can lead to premature skin aging on your ears.

According to Edward Miranda, a board-certified plastic surgeon, there are three major risks tied to wearing heavy earrings:

  1. Mild and self-limited infection can occur, generally shortly after initial piercing.

  2. Since earrings worn at the earlobe add weight across a thin strip of skin, wear and tear from gravity will stretch the earlobe piercing from a round hole to an oval. The earlobe elongates and thins from the weight and ultimately can rupture and split.

  3. Large, hoop and dangling earrings can get caught on objects or tugged by children and pets, and can cause the earring to be ripped off the ear producing a laceration and earlobe rupture.

Back in 2011, saggy earlobes gained attention among surgeons focused on anti-aging. Women flocked to their offices for a "lobe lift" in an attempt to reverse signs of elongated or sagging lobes. The procedure includes two options: one is for an earlobe where the piercing has become elongated, and the second is for earlobes that have simply become thinner and longer with age.

"If the piercing is part of the problem, the surgeon can reduce or eliminate the piercing and use the available skin to lift and plump up the earlobe with minimal scarring," said Miranda. "Stitches are generally in place for five to seven days and stud earrings can be worn after healing. However, if the piercing is not part of the problem, and elongation of the lobe itself is the issue, a small incision can be made behind the ear and the earlobe can be lifted. Earrings can be worn after healing is completed." He added that costs for both procedures are in the $1,500 to $3,000 range.

Dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane are alternatives to plump the earlobes for an effective and somewhat temporary fix that lasts about nine months to one year. However, Miranda warns that these treatments do not make the earlobe stronger.

According to Dimitry Rabkin, the founder and medical director of Esthetica MD, earlobe lifts using dermal fillers are still used today to revolumize earlobe thickness. Even if the earlobe hole is repaired when it becomes large or tears, Rabkin believes it would still be beneficial to make a it appear more youthful looking with hyaluronic filler. The doctor quoted the cost for bilateral stretched earlobe repair as approximately $500 to $700, depending on where you get it done.

Miranda added, "The earlobe is an unusual body structure as it has skin on two sides. This makes it prone to water loss and sun exposure. Consequently daily moisturizers and sunblock with SPF 15 or higher will likely delay the aging process."

Are you a fan of heavy earrings? Would you consider giving your lobes a lift? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section.

In spite of being a champion of body acceptance, Meghan Trainor admits she's still only human.

"I struggle with body confidence every day, so does everyone. I'm getting better at it as I continue to grow in my career," the singer told The Huffington Post.

So it's only fitting that Trainor has become the face of fullbeauty.com, a plus-size lifestyle and shopping destination that relaunched and rebranded in 2015, bringing in the popular singer to help build buzz and excitement.

Flaunting her curves in some of the site's offerings, Trainor, who has become known for spreading body positivity through her music, told The Huffington Post she feels "privileged to partner with a brand whose message is so similar to mine."

Trainor credits the support of her fans with her ability to overcome confidence obstacles, but understands that not all women are lucky enough to have that. Her advice? knowing "you are not alone. Everyone struggles with something, and it's important to always surround yourself with the love and support of friends and family. Have patience. Everything gets better with time."

And if all else fails, just remember, "Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top."

Check out the ad, which launches officially Oct 14, below.
