Bella Hadid Is Unrecognizable, Blonde And Topless In This NSFW Shoot

Supermodel sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid tend to stay in their own separate but equally beautiful lanes, at least when it comes to hair color. So we were a bit thrown off by this epic Paper Magazine photoshoot, for which Bella ditched her brunette locks for a new platinum blonde look.

Hadid was revealed as Paper’s January 2017 cover star just days after her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show debut. In true provocative Paper fashion, she’s nearly unrecognizable on the both cover and within the glossy’s pages.

Hadid, who revealed in an accompanying interview that she initially tried to get into the VS show one year earlier, stars in a high fashion editorial with bejeweled lips, one sheer Balmain skirt worn as a dress and a lot of exposed skin.

The model shared to Instagram a behind-the-scenes video of one of the shoot’s looks: a teeny, tiny Matte sweater worn with a Philipp Plein skirt, Dior x Rihanna sunglasses and Givenchy boots.

Hi @karlie.floss ❤️

If you didn’t already think Hadid was the ultimate master of sheer clothing, we’d say this serves as proof. Head to Paper Magazine to read the entire interview.

Mom Turns Hateful Note About Her Leggings Into Teachable Moment

Kelley Markland has been wearing leggings from a brand called LuLaRoe for about a year. She said they make her feel more confident. She learned in a hateful note that someone has a problem with that.

On Nov. 18, Markland received a letter in the mail with a message that read, “Women who weigh 300 pounds should not wear yoga pants!” Inside the envelope was also a cruel meme referencing Markland’s leggings. The Florida mom shared the note on Facebook, pointing out how hateful the message was.

“Anyone who knows me, knows that I care deeper and stronger than many,” she wrote. “I am a sensitive woman and I despise cruelty towards others. At 36 years old, I am STILL being made fun of. Whoever sent this, be an adult and tell me who you are. JUST TELL ME!!!”

Markland told The Huffington Post she doesn’t know how the person who sent the letter found her mailing address. The mom of two said if she could be face-to-face with the sender she would want to know why they would do something so hurtful. But she would actually like to thank the person, too.

“This one incident has really helped me find strength that I didn’t know I had,” she said. “This incident gave me a voice and a message to share with all women.”

Markland said the response to her post about the letter has been overwhelming and that she has learned that so many other women have experienced the same feelings she has had after reading the note. Since she posted the letter, women have posted photos of their leggings in a touching move of solidarity.

Liz Grimes of Love and Limes Photography also reached out to Markland to tell her she wanted to do a photo shoot with her. With help from a friend who works with LuLaRoe, Grimes also organized for some of the company’s consultants to style Markland for the shoot. On her blog, Grimes wrote that Markland has “a heart of gold.”

Aside from finding other women to talk to who have been through similar experiences, Markland has used the letter as a teaching moment for her kids. She has spoken to them about bullying before, but now they can see firsthand how harmful words can be.

“They get to see how I felt, how I responded and my actions,” she told HuffPost. “I just want them to remember these moments so they can learn.”

This News About Ashley Graham's British Vogue Cover Is Infuriating

$

0

When British Vogue revealed Ashley Graham is its January 2017 cover star, cheers were heard from body positive advocates everywhere ― us included

The groundbreaking issue, which the supermodel called “an absolute honor,” was a thrilling first both for Graham and the glossy. After all, the road to size inclusivity is lined with milestones, and covering the iconic magazine ranks as one of the biggest achievements of all. Graham’s place on the cover felt like a turning point in high fashion, an industry still grappling with how to embrace inclusivity

Unfortunately, certain unnamed fashion houses “flatly refused” to work with the magazine on Graham’s photoshoot, according to Vogue U.K.’s editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman, who has long advocated for moving away from size zero models.

In her editor’s letter in the January issue, Shulman noted that Coach swiftly sent clothing options “that had to come from outside their sample range,” thanking them for their enthusiasm “dressing a woman who is not a standard model.”

But she went on to express her disdain for brands that were not quite so gracious.

“Sadly there were other houses that flatly refused to lend us their clothes. It seems strange to me that while the rest of the world is desperate for fashion to embrace broader definitions of physical beauty, some of our most famous fashion brands appear to be travelling in the opposite – and, in my opinion, unwise – direction,” she wrote.

Designers cite a number of reasons for why they don’t offer clothing in more sizes, but the underlying reality is proven here, as it has been for any celebrity who’s had trouble finding someone to dress them for a red carpet. It seems designers simply don’t want to associate themselves with the stigma that comes with bodies over a certain size.

A scroll through Graham’s Instagram feed shows the supermodel has previously worn clothes by the likes of Jonathan Simkhai, Alexander McQueen and Givenchy. That designers refused to send something over for her editorial shoot in British Vogue doesn’t seem like a matter of resources, but a matter of ignorance.

If the fashion magazine to end all fashion magazines can’t get clothing for a story featuring a non-sample size model without a struggle, who can? Vogue has started to do its part to push through barriers, now it’s up to more designers to commit to progress, too.

Kid Rock Is Selling Obnoxious Pro-Trump T-Shirts

This right-wing rocker wants fans of President-elect Donald Trump to wear their hearts on their sleeves.

Kid Rock is now producing pro-Trump T-shirts that are sure to enrage or delight, all for about $25.

Here are a few of the designs available on the musician’s site:

The apparel line is rooted in internet hijinks. Last month, a photoshopped image emerged that showed Rock wearing a shirt labeling blue states ― those that swung Democratic in the 2016 presidential election ― as part of “Dumbfuckistan.” The blue states contrasted with Republican-leaning red states, representing “The United States of America.”

Rock reportedly hadn’t been wearing such a shirt, but no matter. It has now made it onto his site for real.

“Due to overwhelming demand, we decided to go ahead and actually make this and other current event merch,” the rocker wrote Monday on Facebook.

At least some of the designs appear to have been sold elsewhere online, Fusion pointed out. But Kid Rock apparently has rights to them, too. The man who said he was “digging Trump” during the campaign can now dig him for profit.

Put Others First for a Happy Holiday

$

The holidays are a wonderful time to get in touch with your past and present by celebrating with family and friends. Much of the time we accomplish this by sharing good food and good times. We create beautiful memories that we cherish for years to come.

However, it's also a time of year that presents a very specific opportunity to us; the chance to give back. There are so many ways to give back this time of year. You can go big and get involved in events that support the community or you can go simple and visit someone who is alone this holiday season.

Giving back is not only a good thing to do, it can also be a lot of fun. If you are looking at something in the community, search out opportunities. There are lots of food drives that are operated by schools, churches and local grocery stores. There are also several toy drives such as Toys for Tots and Operations Christmas Child, to name a few.

If you really want to be hands on there are several shelters that are always seeking extra volunteers during the holidays. I can remember when I helped out at our local soup kitchen. It was such a blessing to meet such wonderful people and to be able to help them. I realized there was a lot more to volunteering than just serving meals. I was honored with the chance to have a simple conversation with many of the people that I met. I remember leaving there and feeling so good and inspired. It was better than any gift that I could have been given..

When selecting a place to volunteer at there are several sources you can utilize. The newspaper often has listings in the community section. Many churches also offer opportunities that they post in their weekly bulletins or on their website. The same goes for many nonprofit organizations. If you're still unsure of where to direct your efforts, there are also several fantastic websites that pair volunteers with their interest.

Another way you can give back is to get involved with participating in a local fundraising event like a walk for cancer or a run for the local children's hospital. These are fun events and the monies raised go a long way to provide for important work. There are also campaigns that you can support that may give a percentage of items that you purchase directly to a specific cause. For example, I give a portion of all the revenue generated from my company's product sales to cancer research. It's something I hold close to my heart and I know several of our customers do as well.

The gift of giving is such an important thing for those that have challenges or are suffering. This is true even if you have to add volunteering to your already hectic schedule. I realize we are all busy this time of year, but trust me, along with making a difference for others, the gift of giving is the best present you could ever give yourself. Have a wonderful holiday! See you at the local toy drive!

Tom Hardy Lost A Bet To Leonardo DiCaprio And Now Has To Get The Worst Tattoo

Being friends with Leonardo DiCaprio obviously has it perks. Access to his entire collection of newsboy hats and vape pens, however, does not come without some drawbacks. For example, making super manly bets with his “Revenant” co-star Tom Hardy about getting tattoos they’ll most definitely regret.

You wouldn’t suspect it from his Myspace profile (yes, it’s a thing), but Hardy is apparently the self-deprecating type who refused to believe he would receive an Oscar nod his performance in the Alejandro G. Iñárritu film. DiCaprio, however, disagreed, which prompted Hardy to bet a “tattoo of the winner’s choosing” that he would not be nominated.

“[DiCaprio] wrote, in this really shitty handwriting: ‘Leo knows everything,’” Hardy recalled in his December Esquire profile. “Ha! I was like, ‘OK, I’ll get it done, but you have to write it properly.”

Welp.

Both received Oscar nominations ― DiCaprio went on to win his first Academy Award, while Hardy lost to Mark Rylance in “Bridge of Spies” ― leaving Hardy at Leo’s tattoo mercy.

“I haven’t got it yet,” Hardy said, “because it sucks.”

You guys, Leonardo DiCaprio does know everything.

4 Tips to Make Your Next Holiday Gathering Shine

2016-12-07-1481140120-1196452-ScreenShot20161123at5.52.50PM.png
The holiday season is a special time - festivities, food, and most importantly, friends and family! Entertaining loved ones is one of many passions my husband and I enjoy doing together. Creating memorable moments and transforming beautiful spaces requires preparation and attention to detail but it can be fun if you approach it with a fearless attitude. The most fulfilling experiences have the ability to make you lose track of time and leave stress behind. After countless parties hosted, I invited Burlington to my most recent holiday gathering to show them how the Murdocks entertain using Burlington décor to outfit my home and our festive attire. Check it out here!

Here are a few of my easy-to-do tips to accompany my recent webisode for hosting an unforgettable event:

Make a Statement
Make your event stand out with original statement pieces to elevate the energy in your home. Items like festive pillar candles, throw pillows, and specialty knick-knacks give guests a glimpse into your personal style and set the mood for a memorable evening. Wave bye-bye to outdate decor and say hello to new traditions!

Mix and Match Pieces
Mixing your old pieces with a bit of new makes all the difference. Using unique accessories that match the theme and occasion creates an entirely new experience. Up the ante on the glitz and glam because the holiday season is the perfect time to indulge with color (think: bold red, rustic gold and sleek silver), lively centerpieces, and chic table settings. Remember to stick to two or three colors when decorating. Deciding on a palette before you shop makes the selection process quick and easy.

Dine With Vision
On my web series with Burlington, I invited guests into my home to share my top decorating tips and talk about the importance of sharing New Year's goals with friends and family so they keep you accountable. 'Connection through conversation' is a mantra I live by and creating a unique sharing experience over dinner is a great way to fill the room with love and laughter.

Shine Bright
One of the best-kept secrets in party planning and design are flameless candles. They keep your party hot, but not overheated. And while nothing makes winter warm and cozy like a lit fireplace, pillar candles are a great alternative to get the look you want.

For me, breaking bread with loved ones is what makes the holidays so extraordinary. Home is where the heart is, so don't dim your creativity when crafting a holiday table, assembling organic florals, trimming your tree or hanging that special picture frame. Every detail matters when you create warm holiday memories for years to come!

These Gifts Are Scientifically Proven To Bring Real Happiness

$

0

It’s both a cliche and a scientific fact that experiences bring greater happiness than material possessions. But new research adds weight to this idea as it applies to gift-giving: According to one study, receiving an experience really is more meaningful.

While material things might provide a boost of pleasure in the moment, they’re unlikely to do much for your happiness or well-being over time. So instead of buying sweaters and iPads for everyone on your list this year, consider giving something less tangible but potentially more impactful.

In a study published this month in the journal Emotion, psychologists found that experiential consumption fosters gratitude and giving, and that thinking about experiences promotes more altruistic behavior than thinking about possessions.

“We have found that people tend to be happier when they invest in experiences, because experiential purchases connect people to one another, enhance their sense of self, and, relative to material consumption, tend to be appreciated for their intrinsic value rather than how they compare to what others have,” study authors Amit Kumar, Jesse Walker and Thomas Gilovich wrote in Scientific American

Material gifts might physically last longer, but experiential gifts leave a more lasting mark psychologically, the researchers found. People tend to feel stronger and more lasting gratitude for the experiences they’ve had than the things they’ve acquired.

“Feelings of gratitude are sparked more by trips people have taken, events they’ve attended, and meals they’ve eaten than by the ‘stuff’ they’ve bought,” the researchers added. “In other words, people are often more grateful for what they’ve done than for what they have.”

Feeling inspired? Try applying this to your holiday shopping and see how the people in your life respond. You might even find that you feel extra warm and fuzzy after giving the gift of a meaningful or fun experience. Here are a few experiential gift ideas to get you started.

1. Tickets for a concert or play

We tend to overlook these types of gifts because they can’t be wrapped up in a big, shiny box. But even if the big reveal isn’t as dramatic, tickets for Neil Diamond’s 50th anniversary tour might do more to boost Dad’s happiness both in the moment and for the year to come.

2. Donation to a nonprofit made in their name

Donating money to charities has been proven to boost happiness ― and there’s a good chance that giving a donation as a gift will make you feel just as good as the person who receives it. The feminist in your life is sure to be thrilled about a donation to Planned Parenthood in his or her name (perhaps accompanied by this handmade crochet vulva ornament).

3. A cooking or crafting class

If you have a friend who loves to DIY, sign them up for a local class where they can try a new creative activity. Bonus points for something unusual like a kokedama class, macrame workshop or at-home fermenting

4. Subscription to a meditation or yoga service

There’s a ton of research to back up the stress-relieving, happiness-boosting benefits of meditation and yoga. If you have a friend who’s gearing up to start a mindfulness practice in 2017, give them a one-year subscription to meditation app Headspace or online yoga resource YogaGlo. It’s an experience that they can enjoy throughout the year.

5. A mini-vacation

If you have a big budget to pamper your significant other this holiday season, a weekend away (it doesn’t have to be far) is the perfect blowout holiday gift. Vacations carry huge benefits for well-being, and even just anticipating an upcoming trip can boost happiness for up to two months.

Oprah Threw The Realest Best Friend Fashion Shade At Gayle King

A real best friend provides unconditional honesty when it comes to matters big, small, and ― in the case of Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King ― bejeweled.

King got some hilariously unexpected fashion advice from her bestie after wearing a seriously festive necklace on television Wednesday.

“Note Oprah sent to my [assistant] this am ‘Plz tell Gayle I’m on treadmill & it’s hard to focus w/the circus around your neck,” she captioned a photo of herself wearing the necklace in question, asking her 268,000 followers for their thoughts.

There are so many things to love about this exchange, including the visual of Winfrey pausing her treadmill mid-workout to compose this amazing note and the relatable honesty between two real friends.

Just to prove that they’re not really that much like us, though, King revealed later that the whole debacle became a subject of conversation on Entertainment Tonight. Our sartorial disagreements live mostly in group text messages.

Lest you think O is the only one who dishes out style judgment in the relationship, King once kicked off an interview by making a remark about Oprah’s hairstyle. “Gayle doesn’t like my hair, but that’s okay ‘cause I do,” Winfrey said.

Feeling empowered to give your opinion, but knowing that at least when it comes to style, it doesn’t really matter? That’s true friendship right there.

The world fell in love with powerhouse gymnast Simone Biles during the Summer Olympics, and that love affair continues one powerful outfit at a time.

The four-time gold medalist traded in her star-spangled bodysuits for an orange Marienbad leggings pantsuit at Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment breakfast in Los Angeles Wednesday.

Biles, who was honored at the event, paired her suit with a white button-front shirt and Badgley Mischka platform shoes. The ponte blazer and heavyweight leggings combo, which appears to highlight your boss lady status no matter who you’re standing next to, is currently on sale for $163.

We’re a sucker for just about anyone in a pantsuit, but Biles gets a perfect score for this one.

The Royal Family Is Ready For Your Awkward Office Holiday Party

This is royally awesome.

Madame Tussauds London unveiled seasonal versions of royal wax figures on Tuesday, dressing members of the British royal family in ugly Christmas sweaters to create a display as eye-catching as Rudolph’s red nose.

The family granted the museum permission to deck them out in the festive threads to help promote Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, which happens in the U.K. on Dec. 16. The campaign encourages people to wear un-seam-ly knits and donate £2 (about $2.51) to Save the Children, which helps bring healthcare, education, protection and food to kids around the world.

Aiding children in need is certainly something the royal family is familiar with. Prince Harry has been the patron of Wellchild, a U.K.-based charity that provides services and resources to young people living with serious health issues, since 2007.

The prince’s kindness isn’t his sole contribution, either — he’s also quite lovely to look at. Even as a wax figure, he’s somehow still sizzling in his sweet penguin sweater.

Will and Kate look hilariously hideous in their shared pullover, but the crowning jewel of this display is definitely the corgi-obsessed queen in her pup pull over.

It’s just so doggone cute.

Model Recreates Major Fashion Ads, Skewers The Industry's Diversity Problem

When Jasmine Tookes modeled the coveted “fantasy bra” at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Monday, it marked only the third time in the show’s 21-year run that a woman of color was chosen to make the brand’s ultimate fashion statement.

That disparity reflects a pattern rampant in high fashion, where diversity is on the rise but startlingly far from the norm. The lack of representation in prominent fashion advertisements prompted Liberian-born, L.A.-based model Deddeh Howard to take matters into her own hands.

Howard’s aptly titled “Black Mirror” photo series captured her recreating some of fashion’s most iconic advertisements, replacing the likes of Michelle Williams for Louis Vuitton, Kendall Jenner for Calvin Klein and Candice Swanepoel for Victoria’s Secret.

The project, which Howard told the Huffington Post took about three months from concept to completion, aims “to show the world what diversity is capable of.”

Howard further explained on her website that she used the images to present her race in a more positive light than what is typically put forth by the media.

“In a time where black people too often are in the media for being underrepresented at important events such as the Oscars, or make headlines for being targeted by the police, I felt it was time to do something positive and inspiring about my race,” she said.

Howard said that while researching for the shoot, she and photographer Raffael Dickreuter were shocked to realize how many brands “truly never or almost never use black models.”

Howard has firsthand experience with the struggle to diversify the industry. She said she’s been turned away from modeling agencies who told her they “already have a black model.” Calling this experience “bizarre,” she used the shoot to help emphasize the reality of the world we live in.

“We live in a globalized world with nowadays many interracial couples producing mixed babies. Why can’t the big brands not embrace our diversity more and give all of us visibility?” she said.

While she says she wasn’t prepared for “the big wave of response” to the project, which has been featured in the Daily News, Mic and Yahoo and has garnered a slew of positive feedback on social media, Howard is hopeful for what may result.

“It almost seems it started a movement,” she said.

Head to Howard’s website, Secret of DD, to see more of her work.

Pantone has released its color of the year for 2017.

After nine months of exhaustive research in the realms of art, fashion, architecture, travel and more, color experts have determined that the color we’ll see everywhere next year is ... green.

Or Greenery, to be more specific. Say hello to what experts call the “zesty yellow-green” tone of 2017:

After what many would call one of the most disastrous years in modern history, this “reassuring” color will “provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for,” according to a Pantone press release.

And no, the color was not chosen in response to the election results. The New York Times reports that Pantone experts noticed a proliferation of green before the election ended, originally pegging it as a symbol of new beginnings under our presumed first female president.

Politics aside, Pantone recommends working Greenery into your home, whether it’s with a Greenery-colored couch:

...or a Keurig, one of the most notoriously un-”green” inventions of our time:

Or maybe a hanging orb in the shade of “Greenery” is more your style:

No matter how you choose to incorporate Greenery into your life next year (or not), just remember that this color is here for YOU. As Pantone puts it, “Greenery offers us self-assurance and boldness to live life on our own terms, during a time when we are redefining what makes us successful and happy.”

Greenery for president.

In a world where black kids don’t always see their beauty reflected in mainstream culture, their parents (especially white parents like me) often have to work double-time to safeguard their sense of self-esteem and cultural pride. It’s my job to make sure my son gets the message from as many places as possible and as frequently as possible that his hair and skin are nothing less than perfect.

The T-shirts, books, dolls and other products on this list teach kids to embrace and celebrate their natural, beautiful hair texture. You can’t wrap up self-love this holiday season, but a gift that says “you’re beautiful just the way you are” couldn’t hurt.
