The Obamas Were Looking SHARP At Their Power Lunch With Bono

While you were eating your sad desk lunch at work on Friday, Barack and Michelle Obama were sprinkling their sartorial savvy over New York City.

The former president and first lady looked unfazed by wild claims he’s planning to run a shadow government and wiretapping Trump Tower as they met Bono for a lunch date.

President Obama ditched his too-cool leather jacket for a smart suit with an unbuttoned shirt and no tie...

...while Mrs. Obama also exhibited excellence in power suiting. She wore tailored trousers, a white button-front shirt, a fitted jacket and black pumps.

The pair received a warm welcome from their fellow diners at New York City hot spot Upland, who we’re guessing nearly spit our their mimosas at the sight of this well-dressed duo. “We love you!” someone yelled.

These precious moments might be bittersweet, but at least they’re stylish.

Lorde blessed our ears with new music as she performed on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend.

For her second performance of the show, she sang the recently-released single “Liability” while wearing an all-white outfit and a large white headpiece and veil.

the moments before the moment

A post shared by Lorde (@lordemusic) on

The look garnered attention from fans, including one in particular who asked Lorde if the statement piece had “any symbolism for the song.” “I’m getting super sad bride ditched at the alter/or like ‘I’m wedded to myself’ vibes,” the fan wrote.

Lorde replied that she “wanted to look like an attic moth, no sparkle, swaddled and floating.”

The look fit perfectly with the song, which Lorde has said is a “strange part of myself for a lot of people to look at” and “freaked and grossed” her out at first. And of course, if anyone can look cool dressed like a moth, it’s her.

Check out the performance above.

Zac Posen Is Unapologetic In His Refusal To Dress The Trumps

$

Zac Posen joins the long list of designers who refuse to dress the first family.

The 36-year-old designer recently told the Daily Beast that despite dressing Melania and Ivanka Trump in the past, he doesn’t plan on doing so in the immediate future.

“Right now, I’m staying away from bringing my brand into politics,” Posen said. “There are issues that are being questioned that are fundamentally upsetting to me—deeply: LGBT rights, immigration, funding for the arts, Planned Parenthood, and women’s rights. These are just issues that are very close to my heart, and I use my own private voice and funds to fight for them and in support of them.”

Though fellow designers (like Tommy Hilfiger) have been critical of others for making political statements through their choice of who to dress, Posen told the Daily Beast it’s imperative to speak up.

“I think that every brand and person has a right to be vocal,” he said. “I’m very upset with the state of affairs right now. I always try to be optimistic. I think that freedom will prevail. And I don’t dictate who buys my clothing in a store.”

Posen makes an excellent point. Though many designers refuse to dress the Trumps, that doesn’t mean they can ban them entirely from buying their clothing. Recently, many were surprised when Melania Trump wore a $10,000 Michael Kors suit, because the designer was a Hillary Clinton supporter. Kors later revealed in a statement that Melania bought the outfit at one of his boutiques.

“Mrs. Trump has been a longtime client at our New York boutique,” Kors said in a statement, according to the New York Times. “She has a keen understanding of what works best for her and her lifestyle. My embroidered black suit reflects the streamlined glamour that she is known for.”

Stay tuned for the next (inevitable) fashion statement about the Trumps.

This Might Be Urban Outfitters' Most Absurd Top Ever

Urban Outfitters has never been one to shy away from irony, but one of their latest fashion offerings is really something.

Enter the “Extreme Crop Tank Top Shrug” by Out From Under, a top so teeny that it resembles a dining napkin more than anything else. This $16 tank top is not for those who want more than just their clavicle covered.

While it is no longer available on Urban Outfitters’ website, multiple fashion editors were quick to capture screenshots so the top lives on forever in infamy.

“The ultra-sexy way to layer with this teeny cropped tank top by Out From Under,” the description for the garment read, per Allure. “Cropped above chest for the coolest layered look featuring a crop neck and thin shoulder straps.”

It left many puzzled people with many questions, mainly: “Why, though?”

The Huffington Post has reached out to Urban Outfitters, who has yet to respond at time of publication.

This 56-Year-Old Lingerie Model Proves 'Older Women Can Kick Ass'

Being sexy has no age limit.

Fifty-six-year-old model Mercy Brewer proves that, starring in a lingerie campaign for Lonely, a body-positive brand that’s based in New Zealand.

The new campaign is a part of the label’s ongoing “Lonely Girls” series, which has featured Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke.

Brewer, a self-described former punk, once modeled alongside Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. She was a perfect fit for the brand, according to Helene Morris, one of Lonely’s co-founders and designers.

“At Lonely, we feel that it is important to challenge what we see in our media with a more authentic reflection of beauty and hope to grow people’s visual vocabulary,” Morris said in statement about the series. “The beauty and fashion industries are so obsessed with youth, but the reality is we are all aging, and there are so many wonderful things about growing older.”

Brewer told i-D magazine that she was a fan of the lingerie brand before she started modeling for them. The model describes her appearance in the ad campaign as a way to bring “recognition that older women can kick ass when the opportunity arises.”

“Forget stereotypes, if someone looks good in your gear, shine a light on them,” she said. We couldn’t agree more.

DKNY's Unrelatable Ad Shows Emily Ratajkowski Walking Her Dog In Lingerie

$

Emily Ratajkowski doesn’t walk her dog in the baggy sweatshirts and old sweatpants that you do.

In DKNY’s latest intimates campaign, she walks her dog wearing basically nothing.

Ratajkowski wakes up in what a release from the brand calls “a quintessential New York apartment” (read: a walk-up with an exposed radiator).

But if the apartment itself feels “real” to city-dwellers, the relatable factor stops there. She seamlessly throws on a bra and traipses out of her building onto the street in just a bra and panties like it ain’t no thing, leaving mouths agape and ― of course ―  cabs crashing in her wake.

According to the brand, the 25-year-old’s jaunt around the ‘hood plays to New York City’s unpredictable nature. “Anything can happen in New York,” it said.

Sure, anything can happen in New York. But we’re going to guess probably not this. For Ratajkowski’s part, she explained that she has “never been one to shy away from expressing my individuality” and praised DKNY for always “supporting strong, self-assured women.”

We’re all about individuality and self-assurance, but think we’ll stick to keeping our clothes on during our dog walks for now. Watch the video above.

Topshop Wants You To Buy 'Mom Jeans' With Clear Plastic Kneecaps

Have you ever thought to yourself, “Hey, I really wish my kneecaps would sweat more,” or, “Man, I wish people could get a better look at my kneecaps, but I’m wearing jeans?”

Well you’re in luck, because Topshop is now selling jeans with clear plastic kneecap covers sewn in. We’re not quite sure who the intended audience is for these poorly-named “Clear Panel Mom Jeans” from Topshop.

But for only $95, these jeans can be yours.

Though the internet only recently discovered this interesting piece of plastic disguised as clothing, people who have bought the Topshop jeans on Nordstrom only had rave reviews about the pants (though the comments look like they were probably left by trolls).

The jeans currently have three separate reviews ― all giving the item five stars ― with titles like “Love my kneecaps!” “I don’t have kids- they STILL fit!!” and “Great style, great comfort... great pants!”

“I’ve always loved my kneecaps. So when I saw this pair of see-through kneecapped jeans, I had to get my hands on them! YOLO,” one reviewer wrote, though it’s unclear if they’re trolling us all or not.

Another reviewer made it clear that these jeans “aren’t just for mom’s [sic],” thank goodness!

“My friends and I all bought a pair,” the reviewer wrote. “It’s been a long winter, we can still have that super fashionable skin through denim look, and stay warm! These jeans are totally on fleek!”

YOLO? On fleek? Who is paying people to write these things? Certainly not the people who reviewed the jeans on Twitter:

Though as Twitter user sdpowell1 pointed out, Topshop has a few other pairs of interesting jeans for sale on its website (including ones with mesh kneecaps):

At least it’s better than Nordstrom selling actual rocks for a cool $85.

But if you see the elusive “mom” that would wear these jeans in the wild, let us know in the comments below.

No, You Don't Need 'Vagina Lipstick'

$
0

It seems plucked right off the pages of Gwyneth Paltrow’s diary, but VMagic Feminine Lips Stick is a real and unnecessary product that promises to keep your vulva “balanced, moisturized and purified.”

Yes, people. We’re talking about “lipstick for your vagina,” as it’s been dubiously termed.

The product is really more like a chapstick ― “Because your other lips get chapped, too!” is an actual tagline ― and it’s made with organic avocado oil and honey. It claims to treat things like itch and discomfort, skin dryness, “odor causing bacteria” and ingrown hairs.

This puts “vagina lipstick” in the pantheon of insane and unnecessary health products marketed to prey on women’s insecurities about their own bodies. It’s on par with vaginal facials and insertable jade eggs, both of those were deemed questionable by medical professionals. And acccording to Dr. Maria Isabel Rodriguez, an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Oregon Health and Science University, you really shouldn’t use this, either.

“At first glance, the idea of vulvar lipstick sounds like a joke, or another harmless beauty product,” Rodriguez told The Huffington Post, but she listed a few very real reasons it may not be harmless at all.

Despite the fact that the balm boasts a natural bill of ingredients, Rodriguez pointed out “vulvar skin is very sensitive, and generally does best without any special soaps or shampoos.”

“If symptoms are so bothersome that women need treatment, they should absolutely discuss this with their gynecologist,” she said. Issues like itching or pain or symptoms from vaginal atrophy should be handled by professionals, she added, not vulvar lipstick. It worries her that women may use Lips Stick to treat symptoms, she said.

“While symptoms may be caused by yeast or hormonal changes, it is essential they be evaluated to rule out any chronic skin conditions like lichen sclerosus [patches of thin, white skin] or even vulvar cancer,” she said.

Both Rodriguez and the VMagic website point out that the balm is for external use only.

“The lipstick should never be used internally,” Rodriguez said. “That could cause a change in pH, vaginal infections and all kinds of misery. It concerns me that products like these perpetuate the idea that there is something inherently wrong with women’s reproductive organs ― that they need a balm, a shampoo or perfume.”

Unless you’re dealing with an actual medical condition, your genitals are self-sufficient as they are. The vagina is virtually self-cleaning, it’s supposed to smell, and symptoms like itching, discomfort and unusual odors can be signs of a health issue that needs professional attention. Although the balm can also be used for things like chafing, rash and ingrown hairs, Rodriguez said those can be remedied by using a warm compresses and gentle exfoliation and not picking at your skin.

For now, please keep your love of lipstick on your face, thank-you-very-much.

Sex-Positive Photos Will Inspire You To Give Your Butt The Love It Deserves

$

Warning: This article contains many images of butts. Many indeed.

The Fader magazine recently recruited New York-based photographer Caroline Tompkins for a very serious mission: they needed butt photos and lots of them.

The photos were meant for the magazine’s Love & Sex issue, specifically a piece called “What a Butt Wants,” filled with ass-centric wisdom from experts including a personal trainer, an acupuncturist, and a licensed esthetician.

It was 2014 that was playfully dubbed “The Year of the Butt” around the internet, honoring women like Nicki Minaj and Kim Kardashian as its patron saints. Yet many interpreted the designation ― which, in part, correlated to an increase in surgical butt enhancements ― as pop culture appropriating, fetishizing and exploiting black women’s bodies, long criticized for being curvaceous.

Tompkins worked with Fader’s photo director Emily Keegin and fashion editor Shibon Kennedy to create the series, aptly titled “Butts,” featuring a gorgeous melange of derrieres mugging for the camera.

The series breaks with the exoticizing male gaze often employed by mainstream culture. Instead of privileging a “Platonic Ass,” Tompkins pictures a variety of rears from individuals of all ages, races, genders and sizes. Butts are flat and fat, furry and bare, shiny and matte ― the list goes on ― proving that butts are not a hot commodity or a passing trend, but a real, smushy, sexy body part that deserves love and attention.

“[Fader] presented [the series] as one part fashion, one part service (how to make your butt happy), and one part just cool sexy butts,” Tompkins explained to website It’s Nice That. “I’ve been making a lot of personal work about female desire and sex lately, so it was super flattering for this assignment to become an extension of that.”

Tompkins asked friends and people she spotted on Instagram to take part in the shoot, enlisting a total of 12 models to rock 29 looks. “I got a lot of cool butt pics texted/emailed to me that week for sure,” she wrote in an email to The Huffington Post.

“We were mostly looking for variety ― size, shape, color, hair/no hair, etc. We were also really happy to get a couple in the mix, as we didn’t want to ask anyone to get down and dirty in anyone else’s butt unless they were already dating each other, you know?”

For the shoot itself, Tompkins took inspiration from artists including Whitney Hubbs, Collier Schorr, Jo Ann Callis and Harry Callahan, as well as snapshots culled from amateur porn archives.

The resulting spread features butts in pants, butts in skirts, butts in thongs, butts in the buff. There are also butts in leggings, butts in fishnets, butts with tattoos, and butts pressed against glass. A true visual butt buffet, the playful series lives where sexy meets silly, the two juxtaposed like cheeks on a rear.

The images perfectly compliment Fader’s fruitful guide to butt love and maintenance. “My favorite is the last part about buttocks sugaring,” Tompkins added. “That’s all I’m going to say because y’all should check it out. Also, if you’re wondering how we made the butts shiny, it’s mostly baby oil and Vaseline.”

Head to The Fader for more butt play.

Emma Watson Is A Timeless 'Beauty' On The Red Carpet

If there’s one thing 2017 has given us, it’s numerous Emma Watson red carpet sightings ahead of the “Beauty and the Beast” premiere on March 17.

Her looks have ranged from edgy to elegant, leaning toward the latter at a screening in New York City on Monday night. The 26-year-old looked lovely in a long black gown with sheer paneling and a high slit in front.

The gown, which also featured a big bow and train, was just as fittingly elegant and timeless from the back.

So far Watson has dressed like a princess, rubbed ink off a reporter’s chin and created an entire Instagram account to recap the ethical pieces she has worn on the road.

As excited as we are for “Beauty and the Beast” to come out, we’d be totally fine if this press tour just went on forever.

Ivanka Trump Ditches High-End Jewelry To Appeal To Middle America

$

Ivanka Trump’s brand is dropping its fine jewelry line in favor of focusing on more affordable items, according to a Vanity Fair report from Friday.

As the outlet pointed out, the decision to focus on lower price points (as opposed to jewelry that sold for as high as $25,000) seems to be part of the brand’s overall effort to appeal to the middle-America portion of President Trump’s constituency. Trump has called himself the “blue-collar billionaire,” so it only makes sense his daughter would rebrand to fit the large audience that elected him president.

“As part of our company’s commitment to offering solution-oriented products at accessible price points, we have decided to discontinue the Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry collection,” Ivanka Trump president Abigail Klem told Racked in a statement.

She added, “We will be focusing our efforts on existing and new categories that are most relevant to our loyal customers—including fashion jewelry, which successfully launched last fall with price points that are aligned with the rest of our collection.”

Ivanka Trump recently launched a fashion jewelry partnership with Lord & Taylor and most items hover at or under $100. The site currently offers a range of $28-$38 earrings and necklaces priced in the $40s and $50s, which means it’s easier for customers to wear the Ivanka brand.

Sales of Ivanka Trump products soared last month, presumably because of the attention they received from President Trump taking office and responses to certain Trump-brand boycotts.

Ivanka Trump Imported 53 Tons of Chinese Goods During Her Dad's 'Buy American' Speech

$

Whether you’re a devoted member of the Grab Your Wallet boycott or you’re enthusiastically buying Ivanka Trump, chances are you already know that many of the Trump family’s products are made overseas.

But did you know that even as President Donald Trump promised to create jobs by following “two simple rules: Buy American and hire American” in his January inauguration speech, huge shipments of his daughter’s line were reportedly on the way to the U.S. from China?

More than 53.5 tons of Ivanka Trump-branded shoes, bags, and clothes were sailing to American ports in eight shipments “even as he spoke,” according to customs receipts obtained by French news organization Agence France-Presse.

President Trump promised to bring more factory jobs to this country and accused China of stealing manufacturing work. But at least one shipment per business day of Ivanka Trump’s shoes and other offerings continues to be sent from China, according to the AFP investigation, and the Global Times reported last month that a Chinese factory has already received an order for 10,000 Ivanka Trump shoes for next season.

In fact, “almost all of her goods are made overseas,” according to the New York Times. The paper reported back in Dec. 2016 that the brand outsources internationally to avoid “costly and impractical” factors involved with manufacturing in the United States. Ivanka Trump admitted in an interview that she “didn’t have any experience in production and manufacturing,” describing herself as an entrepreneur rather than a fashion designer. Her imported goods tracked by AFP were licensed by three different U.S. companies; one declined comment to the agency while the others didn’t respond. A request for comment from The Huffington Post to the first daughter’s company was not immediately returned.

Donald Trump’s own products are made in countries including India, China and Mexico. In 2012 he famously told David Letterman his ties and shirts were made “some place,” only to be pointedly reminded by the former late night host that they are, in fact, made in China and Bangladesh.

In 2015, Trump defended this practice, saying in a CNN interview that it’s “not at all” hypocritical to outsource his ties, “because [China] manipulated their currency to such a point that it’s impossible for our companies to compete.”

Nevertheless, Trump repeated his “buy American, hire American” job creation mission in his first address to Congress last month.

It appears that, as with all steps toward a goal, change starts at home.

The Internet Can’t Stop Laughing About Kellyanne Conway's Glam Shot

Nothing gets by Twitter.

Kellyanne Conway recently gave a wide-ranging interview with The Record from her home in Alpine, New Jersey, where she lives with her husband and four children. (Yes, that same interview where she talked about spying microwaves.) The article, published Sunday, was accompanied by a photo of Conway with her daughters.

Twitter users were quick to zero in on one particular element. In a framed portrait, positioned on a side table, is a glam shot of Conway decked out in fur.

There were comparisons to the fantastically vain talk-show host Joan Callamezzo from “Parks and Recreation” ...

And even Katniss Everdeen.

Turns out, the image is from a 2009 calendar of conservative ladies, all draped in fur, according to ABC News. The blurb alongside Conway’s photo highlighted her career as a pollster.

“If there were a queen of polling, Kellyanne Conway would be it,” the photo description from ABC News read. “One of the most quoted pollsters in the nation, Conway is president and CEO of the Polling Company Inc., and is the author of What Women Really Want. Conway is wearing a navy sheared beaver jacket with fox trim and detachable hood from Miller’s Furs.”

She looks great in the shot, but we still have questions.

The world has eagerly been collectively freaking out about Beyoncé’s twin angels since she announced her pregnancy in February, and now the internet is looking to her fashion choices for hints about the sex of her children.

Last week, the singer attended a surprise party for stepfather Richard Lawson, where she wore a short, form-fitting dress with a shoulder cutout. But that’s not what fans on Twitter focused on when the “Formation” singer added photos of the outfit to her website.

Fans think her earrings might hold a clue about her twins.

Yes, the earrings Mrs. Carter wore to the 2017 party are the same ones gifted to her in the 2009 “If I Were A Boy” video

BuzzFeed notes that Beyoncé has seemingly dropped subtle hints about important moments in her life in the past, like posing with lemons before her surprise “Lemonade” album and flashing two fingers before revealing her pregnancy.

Redheads Experience The World Differently Than Everyone Else

Redheads’ hair isn’t the only thing that sets them apart.

The genetic differences that give people fiery locks affects more than just the color of their hair and skin, according to the Reactions video above.

For example, redheads are more sensitive to pain and cold temperatures. Small studies even show that redheads may require more anesthesia during surgery due to this sensitivity.

While scientists have yet to figure out why this happens, they theorize that it has to do with a gene called MCR1. Redheads have a variant of this gene, which is what affects the process that alters their pigmentation in the first place (more on that in the video, too!). Experts suspect that MCR1 expresses itself in a part of the brain that deals with sensation, which may lead to heightened sensitivity.

Take a look at the breakdown above, which is produced by the American Chemical Society and PBS Digital Studios, to learn more about the chemistry of being a redhead. It’s proof that this characteristic is just as rare and unique inside the body as it is on the outside.

We always knew you were special, redheads!

The Best Flatirons For Every Price Point

For Allure, by Lindsay Colameo and Deena Campbell.

Under $50

This mini iron will put all those tiny, stubborn hairs along your forehead in their place. It's so little that it catches even the finest hairs and gets right at the roots (without scalding your skin). Best of all: It includes a travel pouch that doubles as a heat-protection pad.

Drybar Tiny Tress Press Detailing Iron, $49 (Shop Now).

The plates on this straightener smooth and nourish by pressing conditioners into the hair as you pass over each section. The iron actually protects your hair as you iron, a rare feat for a flatiron.

Under $100

Go ahead, roll your eyes (we did, too, at first), but this iron is no joke. It's not just better than expected; it's so effective that we keep going back to it again and again. It allows you to select the temperature setting based on your hair type (fine, medium, or coarse) and smooths down every last flyaway. And, we're not gonna lie, we love the rose-gold plates as much as we love this iron's hair-softening effects.

Kardashian Beauty 1" Ceramic Hairstyling Iron, $89.99 (Shop Now).

If your hair is thick, coarse, or supercurly or you swear no tool in the world can get it straight, we challenge you to try this wacky-looking tool. Plastic bristles comb and detangle hair right before the heat hits it. Then the teamwork of a heated rotating cylinder and a ceramic plate straighten and polish even the most unruly head of hair without so much as a tug or a snag.

InStyler Max Iron, $99 (Shop Now).

Under $200

Professional hairstylists love this iron for a good reason: It reaches a temperature of 465 degrees Fahrenheit in seconds and has titanium plates that are longer than usual to help speed up the smoothing process. And since the device is ultrathin, it easily catches and straightens all those pesky baby hairs.

BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium PRIMA3000 Stainless Steel Straightening Iron, $179.95 (Shop Now).

This black, one-inch flatiron might not look like anything extraordinary, but in this case, looks are deceiving. The Best of Beauty winner does everything a really good flatiron should (straighten — duh — defrizz, soften), plus the curved edges of the plates allow you to create beautiful waves and rounded ends with as little as a bend of the wrist.

Sedu Revolution Styling Iron, $130 (Shop Now).

To completely straighten any kinks or waves in a single pass is a lofty claim. And while this iron definitely comes close, you'll likely hit the same section a second time to get it perfectly smooth and straight. But with ceramic plates that glide over hair as delicately as these do (and leave it so shiny), we can hardly complain.

Under $250

Gisele uses this flatiron. Need we say more? OK, maybe a little bit: From the same celebrity hairstylist whose blow-dryer launch nearly broke the Internet, this green-plated flatiron is equally as buzzworthy. It has plates that are larger than most other irons (meaning fewer passes) and rounded edges that prevent snagging or pulling. And because it shuts off automatically after an hour, it's ideal for those of us who constantly forget to unplug our flatiron before running out the door.

Read the review: Harry Josh Pro Tools Ceramic Styling Iron, $200 (Shop Now).

Sure, it's a minor investment, but the return on this straightener will pay off every single time you use it. The ceramic plates are infused with natural volcanic minerals help lock in shine. Yup, that's right, one pass and your hair becomes silky, smooth, and impeccably straight.

It’s nearly impossible to get through an episode of “This Is Us” without crying, but we can’t help but smile over these new photos of Chrissy Metz.

The 36-year-old stars in a pinup-inspired shoot for Harper’s Bazaar, looking gorgeous in a corset, a swimsuit, a playful polka dot dress and one seriously fierce cat eye.

A post shared by Chrissy Metz (@chrissymetz) on

The actress, who explained to the mag she “finally” has the confidence to pose for a sexy shoot, said she was surprised when she first heard the idea.

“I was like, ‘Who, me?’” she said, adding that the glossy’s desire to feature her this way was “incredible” and “validation.”

If one thing is certain, it’s that Metz has a totally rad and grounded outlook on the way she, her body and her sense of style are perceived by the public.

“If I ever end up on the worst-dressed list, it’s not going to make me fall apart,” she said. “I want to look great and feel good and be comfortable, but at the same time none of this really matters. This is the fun stuff.”

Having fun, looking amazing and maintaining peace of mind? It’s a win-win-win.
