This Crafty Kid Is Brightening Cancer Patients' Days, One Colorful Bracelet At A Time

What started out as a fun activity to pass the time while driving long distances to visit doctors, is now helping to find a cure for cancer.

Graham Fowler, a 10-year-old boy from Fridley, Minn., with a rare form of skin cancer called spitzoid melanoma, started weaving bracelets after his mom got him a rainbow loom, Yahoo reported. After a photo of the bracelet was posted to Facebook, people asked if they could buy it. That's when Graham got the idea to sell the bracelets and donate the money to cancer research.

grahams gift

Since October, he's made 8,000 bracelets and raised almost $10,000, which is being donated to Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.

"I want to do this so that kids can get better,"
he told Yahoo.

Only five other children in the United States have the same diagnosis as Graham, and unfortunately, there is no cure, WCCO reported.

With the help of his older sisters, he's made a Facebook page called Graham's Gift which he uses to sell his wares.

Each bracelet sells for $1 and always features a special yellow bead, symbolizing child cancer research, according to Today.com.

The 'Perfect' Woman Has Kim Kardashian's Breasts, Say Men In New (And Obvious) Survey

Kim Kardashian has basically made a career out of her bodacious curves, and a new survey confirms that her ample bikini selfies and skintight dresses are just what her fans want to see. Her male fans, at least.

British lingerie brand Bluebella conducted a survey asking 1,000 people what makes a "beautiful" body. Deconstructing celebrities' facial and body parts (sure, it's not like they're human or anything), the results are wildly different for men and women:

The "perfect" woman, according to men, has Megan Fox's face, Kim Kardashian's breasts, Michelle Keegan's stomach, Kelly Brooks' hips, Scarlett Johansson's hair and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's legs.

The "perfect" woman, according to women, has Cara Delevingne's face, Jennifer Aniston's breasts, Gwyneth Paltrow's stomach, Emma Watson's hips, Kate Middleton's hair and Elle MacPerson's legs.

perfect

"Interestingly, the sum of all these parts does not match perceived physical perfection -- neither men nor women opted for six-foot, stick-thin teenage models," said Bluebella founder Emily Bendell. "It's great to see such a range of ages and shapes."

We bet Kanye West is writing a song about this as we speak.

Why This Woman Went Makeup-Free On Her Big Day

We were beyond thrilled to see Beyonce go makeup-free during her wedding anniversary celebration in the Dominican Republic with Jay Z this week. Bey's no-makeup move got us thinking about women who opt to go makeup-free for the actual wedding: With all your friends and family around and a photographer capturing your every move, what's it like to go bare-faced on the Big Day?

HuffPost Live explored the concept of getting "bride pretty" recently, with former bride Carolynn Markey weighing in on why she chose to do what most brides would never dream of doing: totally forgoing makeup when she walked down the aisle.

"I don't normally wear makeup so when I was thinking about my wedding, I really didn't want to not recognize myself," Markey told HuffPost Live. "I wanted to make sure I was comfortable in my own skin ... I just wanted to be as natural as possible."

She added: "I didn't want to have to worry about it on my Big Day, there were just so many other things I was worried about."

Courtney Love Hugs Dave Grohl, Hell Freezes Over

Hell has officially frozen over and now pigs can fly.

It's common knowledge that Courtney Love and Dave Grohl like each other as much as prom queen rivals, and their feud reached ridiculously petty levels over the last 20 years. Thankfully, Love and Grohl put their differences aside on Thursday night, April 10, when Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, NY.

After a series of speeches, the Hole rocker and the Foo Fighters frontman appeared to be overcome by emotion and actually hugged. It was a moment that Love, apparently, didn't want to forget, as she tweeted a photo of their embrace, and wrote, "The most magical part of the evening. Thank you Dave, love you. I know this made him smile up there."

Gisele Bundchen Gets Audited, Explains How She's Just Like Us

You might think that topping Forbes' highest-paid models list seven years in a row would be a good thing, but not in Gisele Bündchen's case. In fact, the Brazillian beauty has found it to be more of a headache than anything else.

Bündchen admitted to Brazillian publication Mdemulher (the story was later translated by Vogue) that as a result of the list, she has actually been audited by the IRS. It turns out that the 33-year-old cares way more about non-material things -- like her children's education and hard work:

"I've already been audited by the IRS because of this list and, truthfully, whether I'm on this list or not doesn't interest me. I've got the same interests, the same day-to-day life, as any woman. I want to raise my children well, be a good wife and work. This is what I value: are my children educated, is my husband happy, are people feeling positive energy from me? There should be a magazine to quantify knowledge, understanding and love for people: that is power."

Of course, we can't feel too bad for her. Even if she doesn't make as much money as Forbes estimated, she's certainly not hurting for cash. Plus she has that whole super adorable family thing going on.

Beyonce's Thighs Are The Center Of New Photoshop Controversy

$

Beyonce is getting plenty of attention lately, but it's not of the usual adoring kind. A photo she posted to her Tumblr page and Instagram account this week, which shows her in a bikini on a golf course at some gorgeously exotic resort, is getting a ton of heat for a possible Photoshop alteration.

According to several outlets, many people seem to think Bey altered the photo to have it look like she has a "thigh gap," or in simpler terms, as if her thighs don't touch.

Apparently, a lot of women who deal with eating disorders fixate on the "thigh gap" issue, and there are countless Tumblr blogs dedicated to the potentially unhealthy phenomenon.

The photo in question:

Jezebel observes that Beyonce's pose, or golf squat -- her bent knees, hunched back, ready to swing the club -- may make for seemingly "slimmer" legs. With her famous derriere sticking out, it would actually make sense that her body would look slightly different than if she were standing upright.

But Amelia McDonell-Parry at The Frisky notes that "Beyonce’s (extremely toned, hard-working, bad ass, Blue-birthing) body doesn’t usually have thigh gap."

"The slight wavy unevenness and a certain sharpness where there should be a natural curve indicate that the clone stamp tool was probably used to whittle down Bey’s thighs and butt area," writes McDonell-Parry.

Racked adds that Bey's Instagram followers are discussing the issue in the comments section, asking her to ax whomever did such a poor Photoshop job.

Kim Kardashian dealt with the same sort of rumors last January when a selfie she posted to Instagram looked like it might have been digitally manipulated.

The reality star called the accusations "lies" and tweeted, "It sucks when people make up surgery or Photoshop lies when I am so disciplined & work so hard! Just trying to motivate others & show anyone struggling with weight they can totally achieve whatever they want if they are dedicated!"

Conscious Uncoupling in the Beauty Realm: Breaking Out of a Makeup Rut

For anyone living under a rock (or consciously unaware of celebrity gossip), power duo Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin recently announced their separation in a post titled "Conscious Uncoupling" on Gywneth's wildly popular blog, Goop. While the slightly... odd phrase created a social media storm and spurred a number of articles from The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and TIME (to name just a few!), as a makeup artist, I began to think how this thought process could apply to other realms -- particularly the makeup bag. There comes a time where I think everyone (even the most famous) needs to reevaluate their regime, and reassess what is -- and isn't -- working for them... Like Gywneth and Chris, sometimes it's just time to move on!

Too Much of a Good Thing
People are often surprised to hear me advise clients that less is more. I've adored the nude look for several seasons, but this guideline is more about evaluating what you really need vs. applying a full face of makeup because that's what you've worn for years (or even decades!). Women often cite mascara as their "desert island" beauty product, but apply it at the end of their makeup regime each day. Apply mascara first for immediate definition and you may find you don't need much else. Proper skincare and a top-notch primer can also work wonders toward perfecting skin so you can avoid heavy, mask-like foundation -- the ultimate offender in this department.

Barely-there makeup, flawless finish

Getting Stuck in a Rut
Any happy relationship requires the acknowledgment that people grow and change over time, so why hold onto the same makeup long after the honeymoon is over? Nothing dates your overall look quite like a makeup statement that's been around since Miley Cyrus was Hannah Montana. Talk about a girl who's not afraid of change! Shocking transformations aside, the easiest way to keep your look fresh and age-appropriate is to visit a makeup counter each season for an update. If nothing else, your skincare and foundation absolutely need to adjust with the seasons and you just might find a new shade or formula to fall in love with. I've seen nude lip gloss devotees go mad for a bright lipstick when they give it a try. There's no cheating in makeup so you might as well experiment and have some fun!

A bold lip is an instant image upgrade

Sticking with "What Works"
Just like with dating, sticking with techniques you swore by in your teens or twenties can backfire down the road. Concealing your under eye area seems simple enough, but as any woman over 30 knows this area can become a minefield of fine lines and caked concealer with the wrong product or technique. I developed my Hollywood V method to create the bright-eyed, well-rested look flaunted by starlets of all ages on the red carpet. Apply concealer in a V-shape from the inner and outer corners of the each eye, meeting at the top of the cheekbone. Apply only what's left on your brush directly under the eye. This concentrates coverage where most discoloration occurs and prevents a heavy layer of concealer caking in fine lines.

Bright-eyed at the Alex Perry show during Australian Fashion Week

The brilliance of makeup is that it can inject your life with a bit of fun and variety but requires little to no commitment whatsoever... unlike most relationships. I will, however, ask you to give a bold lip 12 minutes before consciously uncoupling it from your look. What may not be love at first sight can blossom into a beautiful relationship, or a signature look!

We Can't Believe The Fashion Fails On This Week's Worst-Dressed List

$

This week's worst-dressed list was a true lesson in what not to wear. A handful of our favorite celebrities simply ignored good sense and stepped out in some of the most bizarre outfits we've seen. However, there are definitely a few rules of thumb the ladies can takeaway from these debacles.

Coco Rocha should avoid wearing stark white at all costs; Naya Rivera should keep her belly button covered on the red carpet; Kelly Rowland needs to dress her age; and Rumer Willis really needs to coverup. Finally, although we love that Maggie Gyllenhaal is a fashion risk taker, dressing like a huge wad of toilet paper is never a good look.

Check out our picks for worst-dressed of the week, and let us know if you agree.

Naya Rivera

naya rivera
While we're definitely impressed by Naya's killer abs, there is nothing impressive about her outfit. Sadly, she looks like she just walked off the set of a horror flick in that slashed blouse and baggy capris. And her overly contoured makeup is pretty scary, too.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

maggie gyllenhaa
Why, Maggie, why? This dress literally makes the actress look like she got teepeed. Enough said.

Coco Rocha

coco rocha
Coco's porcelain complexion goes from stunning to sickly in this white-on-white getup. The supermodel looks washed-out sans her bright pink pout and red hair.

Kelly Rowland

kelly rowland
Kelly was spotted in Easter Sunday best ... circa 1986. All she was missing was a basket filled with eggs and some bunny ears. Furthermore, this outfit is way too boring and tame for one of the most beautiful stars on the planet. While her studded pumps say rockstar, that angora cardigan and floral fit-and-flare frock scream dowdy.

Rumer Willis

rumer willis
Rumer certainly has the figure to rock this revealing skin-tight dress, but that doesn't mean she should. We're tired of seeing the star look like she's working the corner -- if you know what we mean.

Julianne Hough's Abs Should Win 'Dancing With The Stars'

Well, hello dear abs.

Julianne Hough walked the red carpet at the Kaleidoscope Ball in Los Angeles on Thursday, April 10. The former "Dancing With the Stars" pro wore a matching crop top and maxi skirt combo.

She once told Self that planks are the secret to her killer abs. But, since it's Friday, and it's not like we have to perform on "Dancing with the Stars" next week, we'll just save that workout until Monday.

The Stars On This Week's Best-Dressed List Deserve A Standing Ovation

We'd like to offer a standing ovation for the stars who landed on our best-dressed list this week. Mena Suvari impressed us in a perfect warm-weather ensemble, while Rashida Jones reminded us about the power of metallic pumps. However, it was Kristen Wiig who donned a sassy leather adorned ensemble that really stole our hearts.

Check out our picks for the best-dressed stars of the week and let us what you think.

Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel

kristen wiig
The funny girl got seriously edgy this week and we're loving every second of it! Kristen's leather high-neck bodice and color-blocked dress strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated and sexy. And that deep crimson lip completes this winning look.

Lupita Nyong'o in Giambattista Valli Couture

lupita nyongo
Lupita showed off her flower power while celebrating her May cover of Marie Claire. It's rare we see the stunning actress in something other than a bold colored frock, but this sweet and demure floral embroidered look proves that she can standout in anything.

Rashida Jones in Erdem

rashida jones
This is what you call preppy chic! Rashida turned her modest school girl-inspired dress into a fashion-forward feat by simply adding a pair of metallic pumps. A+

Mena Suvari in Sachin + Babi

mena suvari
It's pretty tricky for petite gals to rock anything tea length -- for risk of looking too frumpy -- so we were super surprised by how much we adored this ensemble on Mena. The pint-sized star's flouncy white crop top, eyelet skirt and thinly strapped sandals helped to keep the look light and airy.

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel

taylor swift
Crop top, high slit and cutouts -- oh my! Leave it to Taylor to combine all three trends and not look like a walking fashion faux pas. Well done, Ms. Swift!

Men: The First (and Most Important) Rule for Dressing Well

$
0
0
Why is it that some guys seem to have it and some guys don't? One guy in a t-shirt and jeans could seem to be dressed better (though more casual) than a guy in a suit and tie. You would think suit guy has several advantages, yet somehow t-shirt-and-jeans guy wins out. How does this happen? Basically, it comes down to fit. A guy in an oversized dress shirt and suit becomes larger than life in all the wrong ways. A shorter stature guy seems shorter than he is. An athletic guy looks out of shape, and a heavier guy seems like he's added a few pounds -- without any change to his diet.

We can't change how tall or short we are any more than we can change the color of our eyes or our shoe size, but we can wear clothes that enhance our appearance and personal style, no matter what body type we are. So, the first rule about dressing well is understanding your body type and what works for you and what doesn't. There are a lot of great clothes out there, especially if you know what to look for, and what to avoid.

Guys on the Heavy Side - The Many Sides of Jonah Hill

Some guys on the heavy side try to hide behind baggy clothes. It doesn't work. In fact, it can make for a sloppy appearance or make it look like you've actually gained some weight. I'm not suggesting you go out and get a pair of skinny jeans and a tight tank top, but do go out and get an outfit that gently drapes over your frame. If you have to squeeze into a pair of jeans, they don't fit. Get the next size. Pants that are too tight around the waist emphasize a heavy midsection and may make your belly protrude over your belt. Go with low-rise pants that cover at the hips, instead of ones that hit at the waist.

Darker colors generally have a slimming effect, but you don't always have to wear black. Try to create clean lines from top to bottom. It will also make you look a little taller. It works for Jonah Hill, a great actor and a guy who is developing a dapper style and a slimmer physique. By the way, he's 5'7". If you're uncomfortable with your weight, hit the gym and your clothing choices will expand while your waistline will shrink. In the mean time, if you know what to wear, you can still look great.

Guys 5'9" and Under - Dress Like Dave, Think Like Jon

Though 5'8" is the average height of men in this country, those around this height or below may be considered short. I'm one of them. I'm 5'6", but I don't feel short and I don't dress short, and neither should you. But that's easier said than done. Most clothes are styled and sized for much taller people. In fact, if you go to a typical men's clothing designer web site, you'll see that the models are generally over six feet tall, generally about 6'2"! Check it out -- a lot of sites these days tell you the height of the models and the size of the clothes they're wearing. My site, jadenlam.com, does the same thing, except our model is 5'6".

Most guys -- tall, short or average -- typically wear shirts, sweaters, trousers and suits at least a size too big. Pants bunch at the bottom or there's excessive fabric throughout the garment. The bottom of the pants should graze the top of the shoes and have just a little break. Pants needn't be tight, but they should definitely not be too wide for your legs. Wear modern flat fronts, with shallower front and back pockets and shorter inseams. For shirts, go for a shorter and narrower point collar, slimmer shoulders, higher armholes and a slightly tapered waist. If you wear the shirt untucked, make sure the shirttail falls about mid-zipper in the front and just below the pocket in the back. For sport jackets, two inches or less should separate your torso from the front of the jacket. The waist of the jacket should be tapered to create a longer look for the legs and a low stance on the jacket elongates the upper body.

Talent comes in all shapes and sizes. Who looks taller? Both comedic genius Jon Stewart and actor Dave Franco are 5'7". Do their clothes make a difference? It's all in the fit.

Tall and Athletic: LeBron is Today's Fashion MVP

LeBron James has legendary style both on and off the court. He will go down as one of best who ever played the game of basketball. But when he first started in the pros, his game off the court was, well let's just say, oversized.

Fine tailoring, a tapered waist, shoulder seams that sit on top of the shoulder bone rather than beyond it, clean lines, narrower collar and a modern two-button suit have the potential to turns this basketball superstar into a style icon.

We know LeBron cares about fit. This is what he said about those new sleeved jerseys after a Miami Heat loss:

I'm not making excuses, but I'm not a big fan of the jerseys. Every time I shoot it feels like it's just pulling right up underneath my arm. I already don't have much room for error on my jump shot. It's definitely not a good thing.

2014-04-11-JLBlog2Lebron.jpg

No matter what body type you are, style and fit can make a difference whether you're trying to make a jump shot or enjoy an evening out on the town.

Is This Rihanna's Vogue Brazil Cover? We Sure Hope So!

While everybody was busy drooling over these bottomless photos of Rihanna posing for an undisclosed French magazine, fansite RihannaDaily.com managed to get their hands on what appears to be Riri's Vogue Brazil May 2014 cover.

The sexy singer goes topless and covers up in a big straw sunhat, printed shorts and an armful of gold bracelets. We're getting hot just looking at the photograph of Rihanna staring seductively at the camera while sitting on the shore in Rio de Janeiro.

She first teased the photo shoot back in January with bikini-filled Instagram flicks and simple captions like "#brazil" and "@teamvivanco #voguebrazil." And it wasn't too long before paparazzi photos surfaced across the Internet from her barely-there Brazilian shoot. However, this rumored "first look" image makes us want to camp out at our neighborhood newsstand.

While this may be the least amount of clothes Rihanna has sported so far for a Vogue magazine cover (check out her April 2011, November 2012 and March 2013 American Vogue covers), this self-proclaimed bad gal looks confident and comfortable in her own skin.

Wouldn't you agree?

Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2015 collection was a lesson in classic elegance. Chantilly lace, silk organza and traditional tulle took on a new life with embroidered overlays, pearlized prints and sequin detailing. Off-the-shoulder gowns and illusion necklines ruled the runway while accessories, like crystal headbands, pearl necklaces and dramatic veils, cued the romance.

Kate Middleton Is Gorgeous In Green On Tour Of New Zealand

By golly, we think Kate Middleton has found her color!

On Day 6 of the royal family's tour of New Zealand and Australia, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at Hamilton Airport in New Zealand looking stylish as ever. While Prince William strutted alongside his wife like the consummate gentleman in a tailored navy blue suit, it was Kate's green Erdem coat that stole our hearts.

The brightly-colored coat popped against her glowing complexion and voluminous brunette hair. Kate's small red poppy brooch and black pumps really made this outfit stand out in the crowds of people who greeted the royal couple as they made their way through Cambridge, New Zealand.

While the cut of this spring coat is very similar to that of the duchess' powder blue Alexander McQueen coat, we'd have to admit that Kate looks even more gorgeous in green. And after sporting this vibrant shade on numerous occasions (Remember this Mulberry pleated dress? Or this sheer Jenny Packham gown?), we'd love to see her wearing it even more.

Check out Kate Middleton's bright green coat below and tell us what you think!
