Comedian George Lopez's 7th annual Celebrity Golf Classic presented by Sabra Salsa was held at Lakeside Golf Club on Monday May 5th. The sunny weather brought out the likes of Don Cheadle, Samuel L. Jackson, Andy Garcia, Joe Mantegna, Alan Thicke, Jesse Metcalfe, Omarosa Marigault and more.

When they weren't playing on the green, celebs had a chance to visit the GBK-produced gift lounge in support of The Lopez Foundation, which helps underprivileged children, adults and military families. It also raises awareness about kidney disease and organ donation.

The low-key lounge included lots of items including apparel, fitness, skincare and gourmet edibles.

Men's retailer Alandales gifted golf shirts and gift certificates to its in-store hair salon, among other items. Luxury dress shirt company Made-of-Stone showcased dress shirts adorned with precious and semiprecious stones such as sapphires and rubies. Guests received gift certificates for amethyst cuff links. On the casual side, Margaritaville Apparel handed out beach bags filled with their goodies including polo shirts, t-shirts and baseball caps.

David Barton Gym handed out 6 month memberships while Burke Williams Spa gave out skincare products and spa passes. Nicaragua's Mukul Beach, Golf & Spa gave out trips to their Emerald Coast resort, along with a bottle of Flor de Cana rum.

Food items included coconut peanut butter from Hawaii's North Shore Goodies, Stafford's Famous Chocolates (try the red wine truffles), macaroon and cake pops by Le Pop Shop and high-protein, Vitamin D rich coffee creamer from Ripped Cream.

Accessories included limited edition watches from Curtis & Co. designs, no-show anti-slip socks and half socks by MOCSOCS and electronic smoking products by Tryst.

Milena's Candles gave out candles with such exotic scents as Patchouli/Valencia Orange. No doubt celebs will place them next to their very own hand-made wooden benches and chairs by GloDea. The company, conceptualized by Brazilian designer Ignacio Santos, was sending each celeb its portable lounge chair, Chair X36, made from eco friendly yellow pine wood.

"Are you a 20-something barely making your rent? Do you have a mom? Then try Your Mom's House!"

Musical sketch comedy group PopRoulette reminds us that the best place to shop isn't the mall, it's Your Mom's House! You get quick and easy returns with a built-in personal shopper, in exchange for just a few hours of fielding questions about Twitter and your relationship status.

“Your Mom's House is the only place where young, hip, financially unstable fashionistas can get clothes for free!” announce gleeful 20-somethings. With Mother's Day around the corner, there's no better time than now to go home and celebrate your mom by shopping (for you).

If you're not a big shopper, there's also a restaurant in Your Mom's House -- specializing in dishes you're ordinarily too poor and lazy to put together yourself. Doesn't get much better than a free shopping spree and a meal.

Stay tuned for "My Two Dads' House," opening soon.

Over 300 Years Ago, An Artist Created And Documented Every Color You Can Think Of

Thanks to Pantone, the contemporary authority on all things color, we have a way of documenting the chromatic flow -- all 2,100 hues it's gleaned from the visible ends of the rainbow. But artists have been recording the depths of color for much longer than Pantone's lifespan, mixing and melding pigments to create the violets, turquoises and ambers we ogle in art history books.

colors

One such artist was A. Boogert, a man who created a massive manual on color nearly three centuries before Pantone ever came into being. Back in 1692, he crafted around 800 pages of handwritten and hand-painted pages under the title "Traité des couleurs servant à la peinture à l’eau." Written in Dutch, the treatise was a painstaking trek through the tints and shades of every color you can think of. It was, as This Is Colossal speculates, probably the most informative color guide of its time.

We have Medieval book historian Erik Kwakkel to thank for bringing the book to the internet's attention. Though he notes that someone else is currently conducting a PhD study on the 17th century publication, to be completed in 2015 at the University of Amsterdam. Here's what Kwakkel had to say about the archival gem:

"In the 17th century, an age known as the Golden Age of Dutch Painting, this manual would have hit the right spot. It makes sense, then, that the author explains in the introduction that he wrote the book for educational purposes. Remarkably, because the manual is written by hand and therefore literally one of a kind, it did not get the “reach” among painters -- or attention among modern art historians -- it deserves."

You can see the entire book online here, for those interested in peering deeper into the historical color records. Happy hunting!

Kim Kardashian Just Realized Racism Still Exists After Having A Baby

$

Ever since Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed their first child back in June 2013, the reality star said she's discovered that motherhood not only changed her -- but her perception of the world.

In a post written on her personal blog, the 33-year-old revealed that she has concerns about raising a mixed-race child, and recognizes that racism is still a problem the world over.

"To be honest, before I had North, I never really gave racism or discrimination a lot of thought. It is obviously a topic that Kanye is passionate about, but I guess it was easier for me to believe that it was someone else’s battle," she wrote on May 7. "But recently, I’ve read and personally experienced some incidents that have sickened me and made me take notice. I realize that racism and discrimination are still alive, and just as hateful and deadly as they ever have been."

Kardashian went on to write that as a mother, a public figure, and a human being she feels a responsibility to do what she can to make sure that not only her child, "but all children don't have to grow up in a world where they are judged by the color of their skin, or their gender, or their sexual orientation."

Kardashian, who is set to marry West on May 24 in Paris, wrote that she wants her daughter to grow up in a world where love for one another is the most important thing -- and she plans to take action:

"So the first step I’m taking is to stop pretending like this isn’t my issue or my problem, because it is, it’s everyone’s… because the California teenager who was harassed and killed by his classmates for being gay, the teenage blogger in Pakistan who was shot on her school bus for speaking out in favor of women’s rights, the boy in Florida who was wrongly accused of committing a crime and ultimately killed because of the color of his skin, they are all someone’s son and someone’s daughter and it is our responsibility to give them a voice and speak out for those who can’t and hopefully in the process, ensure that hate is something our children never have to see."

It's not clear what inspired Kardashian's call to action, but she's actually felt the sting of racism in the past. In February, things took an ugly turn at the Vienna Ball when comedian Chris Stephan arrived in blackface, mimicking the star's fiancé. And we'd be hard-pressed to forget about the time that a man allegedly threatened Kardashian's life after she told him it wasn't appropriate to use the n-word, and then began screaming at her, "F--k you, bitch. Just trying to help you. Shut up, [n-word] lover, stupid slut."

Sarah Jessica Parker And Anna Wintour Announce Comedy Tour On 'Late Night With Seth Meyers'

What's even better than seeing Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Wintour pose for photos at the Met Gala? Seeing the two fashion icons letting loose (well, loose for them) and chatting with one of our favorite "SNL" alums, of course!

The power duo stopped by "Late Night With Seth Meyers" to discuss the gala, which SJP co-chaired this time around. It was a record-breaking year for the event, which raised $12 million for the museum ("it's a record" Wintour humbly bragged). But even amidst the success and excitement, Parker admits that while her position of co-chair sounds pretty simple, it was not quite so, and joked that she was "reprimanded very early on" by the boss.

The two also had a chance to rate the men's sartorial choices from the evening. Apparently the theme, which was white-tie and decorations, proved to be too much for some of the guys to understand, let alone achieve. Wintour revealed that some interpreted "decorations" as "Christmas decorations" and even asked designer Tom Ford to pick out ornaments for them.

The two may be an unlikely addition to the late night TV circuit (even Meyers seemed surprised over the excitement surrounding their appearance), but the LOL-worthy interview shows a refreshingly playful side of both ladies, who we're so used to exuding total sophistication. If the two ever DID go on a comedy tour like Parker said, we'd be the first in line for tickets.

Check out all the laughs above.

No One Can Pronounce 'Cara Delevingne' -- Not Even Reese Witherspoon (VIDEO)

Cara Delevingne may be one of the biggest models in the industry right now, but that doesn't mean anyone knows how to spell -- let alone pronounce -- her mysterious name.

The gorgeous goofball took to Instagram to prove that no one, not even Reese Witherspoon or Zooey Deschanel can get it right. Witherspoon warns that she'll be "f*cked" if she has to try and pronounce her name, and then hilarity ensues in what we can only refer to as the most amazing elevator ride of all time. Upton proves that even her first name is too much, asking "Karen? We don't know."

In the second video, Witherspoon imparts some of her wisdom onto Cara, reminding her that "the most important thing in a name for a girl, is that a man can whisper it in his pillow." Of course, that came only after she used a few more expletives. The bottom line? Reese Witherspoon cannot say Cara Delevingne. And she may have had one too many drinks at the gala.

Check out the videos below and just try not to laugh at their ridiculousness.

Pregnant Doutzen Kroes Glows On The Red Carpet

Pregnant Doutzen Kroes looked stunning when she hit the red carpet Wednesday, May 7, for the Delete Blood Cancer Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

The supermodel mom, 29, wore a tight, long-sleeved black gown to the evening gala with a messy side-braid in her hair. She smiled and cradled her belly as she posed for photos on the carpet. This will be Kroes' second child with husband DJ Sunnery James. They are expecting a girl.

Although Kroes made her name walking the runway for Victoria's Secret, she does not want her daughter to follow in her footsteps.

"Instead of saying, 'You're so beautiful,' I'll say, 'You're smart,' so she'll have different aspirations in life than beauty and modeling," she told the New York Post last month. "Though I love my job, I'm not changing the world. I'd love for her to study and to have different aspirations. We need to teach girls they can become presidents, and it's not about beauty all the time."

What It's Really Like To Have Anna Wintour As A Mother

It's safe to say that Bee Shaffer could have any job that she wants in the fashion industry -- after all, her mother, Anna Wintour, is the matriarch of the style world. But ever since Bee was little, she had no interest.

"I never thought I was going to work in fashion, it never occurred to me," Shaffer told Teen Vogue’s style features director, Andrew Bevan. "I've never been that fashion-forward. I'm not that interested in fashion. I'm 5'5" and have huge boobs, I'm not going to wear the same thing as Karlie Kloss." Instead, Wintour's daughter decided to pursue a career in entertainment -- television specially.

met

And while being the daughter of the biggest editrix in the world has its perks (namely Chanel Met Gala dresses), it also comes with some negatives. When Bevan asked Shaffer about her mother's perceived cold-demeanor, she said:

I know that she is the most generous person that you will ever meet -- it's crazy, she puts everyone before herself. Always. So I know that's who she is and I also know, that like I said, she's efficient and she gets bored easily and she wants things to get done. So, she's a boss, I mean like it's not a bad thing to like ask people to do things, but um, she came to my badminton games.

Rihanna got the chance to go to prom again... well, not exactly.

For the Christian Dior Cruise 2015 Show Wednesday night, Rihanna stepped out in head-to-toe Dior wearing a silk baby pink dress that gives us some "Sixteen Candles" and "Pretty in Pink" vibes. Complete with strappy heels, statement accessories and lots of tats, Rihanna is our dream prom look in a nutshell.

But, the outfit alone wasn't the only thing that made RiRi stand out in the luxury crowd. The hair chameleon sported a lovely updo, with her baby hair pumpin' and loose curls cascading down her shoulders. And it wouldn't be a Rihanna look without a cool red lip. Hey girl, is that RiRi Woo?

What do you think of Rihanna's outfit?

'Game Of Thrones' Star Maisie Williams Is A Dead Ringer For Lorde

Are we seeing double?

We'll admit, we're not sure how we didn't see this before, but "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams is a dead ringer for Lorde. So it's a good thing the actress pointed out their look alike status to everyone, just by replicating the singer's signature makeup style. But even without the dark lip and pale skin, it's those eyes that are as big as saucers, that make the 17-year-old stars look like they could pass for sisters.

Gisele Bundchen looked every bit like a fairy tale beauty at the Rainforest Alliance Gala held at the Museum of Natural History in New York City Wednesday night, May 7. The supermodel posed playfully with the voluminous skirt of her shimmering gown while on a carpet made of green grass for the environmentally friendly event.

The dress was both eco-friendly and handmade. "Thank you #JeffGarner for the beautiful handmade eco dress. #plantdyed #hempsilkblend #RAGreenGala @Rainforestalliance," she wrote on Instagram.

A Closer Look at Robin McGraw Revelation

$

Dr. Phil's wife and a daily presence on his show, Robin McGraw, has launched her own anti-aging skin care line called Robin McGraw Revelation. The four-piece 30-day kit costs $89.90 and is a fairly basic regimen of cleanser, scrub, serum/moisturizer and oral supplements. I really don't like the business model, which puts any takers on an automatic monthly renewal program. But leaving that aside, Mrs. Dr. Phil has come up with products that bear some scrutiny.

The four Robin McGraw Revelation products are Absolute Glow Purifying Facial Cleanser, Total Renewal Micro Polishing Scrub, Vital Hydration Serum Infused Moisturizing Treatment and Jewel Drops Anti-Aging Serum Capsules. Personally, I don't regard scrubs and supplements as essential to a daily anti-aging regimen, and for this reason alone, I would not commit to the kit. Unfortunately, only the supplements can be bought separately. Nevertheless, I thought it worth taking a closer look at the Absolute Glow Purifying Facial Cleanser and the Vital Hydration Serum Infused Moisturizing Treatment to see if they pass muster.

The short answer is they mostly do. The good ingredients outweigh the bad, and there are even a few interesting ones among the good. Don't expect cutting-edge peptides, but there are some useful actives and botanical extracts.

Absolute Glow Purifying Facial Cleanser has been formulated to exfoliate and lighten skin tone (another reason not to bother with a scrub) with sugar cane, from which glycolic is typically derived, and bilberry extract, a source of skin whitening arbutin. Edelweiss extract is included, as it is in the Vital Hydration Serum Infused Moisturizing Treatment, and at least one study demonstrates that it is an anti-inflammatory. Another good ingredient is moisture-retaining phospholipids.

The surfactant (which makes suds) is coco betaine. This is generally considered safe, although there have been reports of allergic reactions (thought to be due to it being contaminated with amidoamine and dimethylaminopropylamine, two impurities commonly associated with skin sensitization and irritation. Other ingredients to be aware of are PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Trioleate, as PEGs should be avoided on damaged skin, and the potential neurotoxin, phenoxyethanol.

Vital Hydration Serum Infused Moisturizing Treatment also has some ingredients to be leery of. Adipic acid/neopentyl glycol crosspolymer is an anti-caking agent that can be a skin irritant and cause environmental damage. There are several silicones, chemical fragrance and potentially irritating preservatives, such as ethylhexylglycerin. But I have to admit, I have seen far worse in much more expensive department store potions and lotions. There are also a couple of ingredients in Robin McGraw Revelation Vital Hydration Serum that are worth a call out. Lentil extract is supposed to control sebum and eliminate nucleated cells from around the pores for a more refined complexion. Watermelon extract is also included -- reminding me of Cindy Crawford's signature "rare melon" ingredient in her much inferior line.

While I'm not going to sign up for a regular monthly kit, mostly because I don't regard the scrub or supplements as necessary to my life, I do think that the two core products in Robin McGraw Revelation -- the cleanser and moisturizer serum -- are decent. Not remarkable, but certainly decent.

Absolute Glow Purifying Facial Cleanser: Water(Aqua), Cocomidopropyl Betaine, Decyl Glucoside, Glycerin, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Trioleate, Propanediol, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit/Leaf Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Extract, Leontopodium Alpinum (Edelweiss) Extract, Phospholipids, Squalane, Dimethicone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

Vital Hydration Serum Infused Moisturizing Treatment: Water(Aqua), Carthamus Tinctorius, Adipic Acid/Neopentyl Glycol Crosspolymer, Dimethicone, VP/VA Copolymer, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Amodimethicone, Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Glycerin, Citrullus Vulgaris (Watermelon) Fruit Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Lens Esculenta (Lentil) Fruit Extract, Leontopodium Alpinum (Edelweiss) Extract, Phospholipids, Sodium PCA, Sodium Lactate, Algae Extract, Mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris) Extract, PPG-12 SMDI Copolymer, Montmorillonite, Stearic Acid, Beeswax, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

A Beauty Philosophy All New Moms Can Get Behind

$

HuffPost Home Editor Jessica Cumberbatch Anderson has a great beauty philosophy for new moms everywhere.

When Jessica found out she was pregnant last year, she decided to give up chemical hair relaxers once and for all. But, after having her daughter four months ago, she needed something to cut down her morning hair routine. "I still wear my hair straight, which can be super labor intensive on wash/blow-dry day once a week," she explained. "Baby ain't got time for that."

So, Jessica decided to get a keratin treatment. Although she acknowledges that keratin is still chemical-based, it's been great for the amount of time she has, cutting her wash, blowdrying and styling times in half. The easier regimen, which involves most of the Keratin Complex line, allows Jessica to follow her own brilliant beauty mantra: "I've always felt that if my hair is decent, all else is well in the world."

As a new mommy, Jessica finds that there needs to be a new outlook on how society views the effects of motherhood on women, which she explains with some powerful words:

It's been four months since August was born and I can't tell you how many people have said, "You don't even look like you just had a baby!" I get that new parenthood is exhausting and nerve-racking and sometimes even lonely, but the more I heard that comment, the more I started to feel like our view on what moms should look like is kind of sad. I just dropped a few pounds, I can have a cocktail and some sushi again and, most importantly, I have this beautiful baby who makes me well up inside just thinking about how she smiles when she sees me. I'm happy, and that's what you see. I think I've made a conscious effort to show that -- it's my version of the whole beauty comes from within thing.

Chrissy Teigen Wants An 'Angelina-Brad-Type Brood' With John Legend

Chrissy Teigen is down to have a brood of children with husband John Legend, just like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

"I swear to you, I thought I would've had one by now," Teigen told Marc Lamont Hill on HuffPost Live Thursday, May 8, while chatting about babies. "So, hopefully we'll just have this Angelina-Brad-type brood. I would love that ... I definitely want a lot of kids, though, and he does as well."

Teigen said she would definitely adopt and hopes to have four children with Legend, whom she married last year after six years together.

The supermodel also talked about joining the Mile High Club while flying commercial first-class. "Listen, this was early on in the relationship. You know? I can't imagine having it happen in the past year or so," she said Thursday. "We were big risk-takers, and it was a long flight, and it was dark. So, yes."

The 28-year-old first made the steamy revelation in the June 2014 issue of Cosmopolitan. Although it might've surprised some (her family), the Sports Illustrated stunner is pretty much an open book, especially when it comes to social media.

"Being a swimsuit model that talks so much on Twitter ... everyone thinks that I could definitely pull back," she said. "You kind of open yourself up to all the criticism. That's definitely a big downside to this whole world. How can you complain about people critiquing your body when you're literally like, 'Look at my body!'"

Last month, Teigen cursed out some social media trolls who were calling her fat. Still, she receives a lot of positive feedback from fans in-person, saying that men usually ask for a photo for their significant others. "[It is] very cool to me," she said. "I love that it's always for the girls, and the wives. Makes me happy."

Trend Talk: White Converse Sneakers

Spring has officially arrived in full force here in DC, and it has brought the rain with it! Thank goodness the rain subsided yesterday, because I am tired of wearing my rain boots. One of my favorite things about Spring is being able to try current Spring Shoe Trends. Today I wanted to highlight my current favorite, the White Converse Chuck Taylor that I scored at DSW. This shoe has been around since I was a child, and I was not really into it. Starting last fall, I started to envy everyone wearing these chic tennis shoe & finally jumped on the bandwagon and purchased a pair. They are super comfy and I love how casual they are, but you can also dress them up like I did with these soft red shorts.

Makeup Secrets: Exposed

By popular demand, I have finally decided to uncover my deepest, darkest, most riveting makeup secrets ever!

Just kidding. Unfortunately, I don't have that many secrets to share. But because I tend to use very little makeup, the makeup that I do use, I LOVE! These items have been with me through thick and thin and I'm sure they'll work just as well for you!

Foundation

Even though I try not to use foundation due to my naturally oily skin, when I must, I use Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup.

2014-05-02-foundation.jpg

This foundation applies evenly, works wonders on oily skin and eliminates spotty areas.

Under Eyes

I cannot live without my Clinique Airbrush Concealer!

2014-05-02-undereye.jpg

I have tried hundreds of other brands, but none have lived up to this one. It goes on smooth without leaving creases or white lines under your eyes. Also, even if you sweat, it never smudges or comes off! Bonus points! The best part: it has a reflective quality. This really opens up your eyes and keeps you looking fresh all day.

Eyes

I always go very minimal on the eyes. The only thing I apply to my eyes during the day are these Stila Waterproof Liquid Eyeliners.

2014-05-02-eyeline.jpg

Again, these will not smudge! No matter how much you sweat, this eyeliner stays put. Best part is, when it comes time to take it off... it's effortless! Also, they have a super thin felt tip that makes it easy to apply.

Eyeshadow

When the time comes for a night on the town, I might use some Urban Decay Naked Basics eyeshadow.

2014-05-02-eyeshadow.jpg

It is a small, compact palette that has all the colors I need to complete an awesome look!

Mascara

This...

2014-05-02-mascara.jpg

... is a winner! This is the Estee Lauder MagnaScopic Mascara. No matter how hard I try to get away from this mascara and try new brands, I always end up coming back to it. It doesn't clump, it's easy to wash off and, again, it does not smudge!

Cheeks

I like to go easy on the cheeks. For my blush, I use this Makeup Forever Sculpting Blush.

2014-05-02-blush.jpg

It's super small, compact and easy to carry! Best part is, their pigments are very strong and a little goes a long way, so these babies last you a very long time.

Sunblock

Now this... is my best secret. This product is a Peter Thomas Roth Sunscreen... powder!

2014-05-02-PRsunscreen.jpg

All you have to do is lightly shake the tube until you see powder come out, and brush it all over your face after you have applied your makeup! Voila, you are covered. This is NOT a sunblock you want to wear when you're at the beach. This is just what I like to use when I'm out and about during the day.

Lips

For my lips, I always carry around this Vaseline Lip Therapy.

2014-05-07-liptherapy.jpg

These ones come with a little lip tint, which allows me to avoid lipstick altogether! Less things to carry around.

These Models Were Asked To Make This Issue Sexy, And They Failed For Good Reason

Almost 800 mothers and 18,000 young children die each day, mostly from preventable causes.

Not the sexiest of statements, huh?

According to AdWeek, the models in the video above were caught off guard when an actor posing as a commercial director asked them to repeat those alarming facts and other similar ones reflecting humanitarian crises around the world. Little did they know that the commercial they were shooting was in fact a spot for Save the Children USA -- one that's since gone viral.

"In the Democratic Republic of Congo, one out of seven children die before their 5th birthday," the models awkwardly read off cue cards during the video, puzzled by the request to repeat such dismal statistics.

"You want me to say that's 'sexy'?" one model asks, perplexed. Another, uncomfortable with the task, asks to take a break in the middle of the shoot.

The statistics, taken from Save the Children's State of the World's Mothers 2014 report, were highlighted to draw attention to dire situations for women and children around the world.

The report particularly focused on women and children in need due to violence and instability. In Syria, for example, more than 2.9 million women and girls of reproductive age are in need of humanitarian support because of devastation caused by the civil conflict.

The report also highlights the need for relief aid after natural disasters around the world. In the Philippines, a country which was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013, cases of pneumonia have increased substantially due to inadequate shelter and food supply in disaster zones. A survey found 37 percent of children in affected areas between 6 months and 5 years old had suffered from acute respiratory infection in the previous two weeks.

"We can't make this issue sexy," the models say, after they've been told of the video's true intention. "But it deserves your attention."

How to Host a Mother's Day Tea

2014-05-08-jennikayne_mothersdaytea.png

With Mother's Day right around the corner, it felt like the perfect opportunity to host a Mother's Day Tea. It was such a beautiful afternoon, and the perfect way to celebrate all of the mamas and their little ones. Whether you're inspired to host your own event or simply want to explore this one, we've gathered a list of five tips for Mother's Day entertaining.

1. Keep It Simple and Thoughtful
2014-05-08-jennikayne_mothersdaytea_tips.png
We co-hosted our Tea with The Chalkboard Mag, and put a lot of thought into the event ahead of time to be able to enjoy it with ease the day of. We wanted to create a space that felt personalized and unique, but not fussy. For your own event, consider every sense, and make certain that nothing feels out of place - from the welcome cocktail to the parting gift, every component should enhance the experience of the celebration.

2. Set the Tone with Decor
2014-05-08-jennikayne_mothersdaytea_decor.jpg
We were so fortunate to work with Los Angeles event producers Bash, Please, who put together the decor and design elements. A backyard tea party should feel a bit casual, but also refined and proper. Bash, Please brought in lush florals from Moon Canyon, curated teas, special serving pieces and custom nametags to give our table a considered feel.

3. Prepare Treats for Everyone to Enjoy
2014-05-08-jennikayne_mothersdaytea_food.png
As this was a tea, small and bite sized was a must, and all of our small bites were provided by Valerie Gordon of the otherworldly Valerie Confections. She created a spread that was simply perfect for the occasion, preparing sandwiches and treats that mamas and little ones could both enjoy. Everything was beautiful, delicious and -- as always -- decadent. Favorites were the Creme Fraiche Scones with Strawberry Vanilla Bean Jam and the Lemon Creme Tarts, and the little ones couldn't get enough of the cucumber tea sandwiches and Rose Petal Petits Fours.

4. Plan Interactive Activities
2014-05-08-jennikayne_mothersdaytea_craft.jpg
The Bash, Please ladies created a wonderful activity for the mamas and their little ones to enjoy together. We provided raw beads (colored using natural dyes) and leather cord that the little ones could use to string colorful bracelets and necklaces for their mamas. These were such a hit that the mamas also ended up making some for themselves!

5. Don't Limit Libations To Tea
2014-05-08-jennikayne_mothersdaytea_cocktails.png
We provided a wonderful Mint and Lemon "Tea" for the little ones, and Earl Grey and Blanc Fleur teas for the mamas. The final elements to our Mother's Day Tea were inspired cocktails courtesy of a wonderful new Los Angeles discovery, Pharmacie. The first cocktail Pharmacie created was a vodka-based Sunday Punch, elevated with the addition of grapefruit juice and a rosemary simple syrup. The second: The Mademoiselle, an incredible champagne and gin concoction created especially for our event, with fresh lime juice and maraschino cherry liqueur.
