Harper's Bazaar Digital Director Chats About Shop Bazaar and Fun Holiday Buys!

$

As a lover of all things fashion related, I often sift through the pages of magazines wishing that I didn't have to do background research on where to buy certain pieces and products. It never fails, I always fall in love with a piece in the print magazine and then can never find it or it's not yet available in stores or even online.

Well, Harper's Bazaar has made the consumer shopping experience just a little easier. With their 'Shop Bazaar' digital boutique established in 2012 they allowed the sophisticated yet tech savvy consumer to shop the pages of their print magazine online. They've just conducted a revamp of the site and I was able to sit down with their Digital Director, Joyann King, to chat about new features and some of her favorite online holiday buys. Check out what she had to say!

2013-12-24-ScreenShot20131223at9.47.34PM.png

HPB: What pushed the Harper's Bazaar team to establish its ecommerce site?
JK: "For 150 year's Harper's Bazaar editors have been the storefront for the must have items of the season. After being inspired by the pages of the magazine, readers often called the designers of their favorite pieces to find that they would only end up getting on an extremely long waiting list. [To help our readers circumvent this issue] We launched the digital shop over a year and a half ago."

HPB: What features of the site separate you from other e-commerce sites?
JK: "We are the first publication to create a platform that allows our readers to purchase pieces right from the pages of our magazine. One of the most exciting features of 'Shop Bazaar' is that it hosts many modules that allow you to 'shop the story' from the print publication. It's a way to service the readership by taking inspiration to acquisition.

'Shop Bazaar' and the digital efforts we've made have allowed us to better understand our reader. We have over 5 Million followers on Pinterest and found that our reader is not only sophisticated but they are also savvy."

HFB: Where do you see the future of digital e-commerce sites going or rather how would you like the space to grow?
JK: "Content is king. I started in digital around 2006, I've noticed over the years a real dedication to editorial content in the digital space. It's about finding the right balance between keeping the voice of the print publication and establishing the authoritative voice on fashion in the digital market."

HFB: Now for the fun stuff, what do you find yourself purchasing online the most this holiday season?
JK: "As an editor, I love e-commerce because it exposes me to new designers. For example, I found this amazing jewelry designer by the name of Lele Sadoughi. She makes these great art deco pieces that I knew would be a perfect gift for my mom. When my mom opens her gift I can tell her the story about how I discovered this new designer and immediately thought of her!

2013-12-24-LeleSadoughiPrismStudEarrings31.jpg

In addition to finding great new designers, I've been able to find one of a kind pieces from design houses we all know and love such as Valentino. They have a beautiful clutch that you can have monogrammed! It's a bit of a splurge but is such a timeless piece.

2013-12-24-ValentinoGaravaniMOCWhiteClutch31.jpg

I'm also in love with chic tech accessories. It's becoming less about your device and more about how you are pairing it. Like purchasing a great pouch for your iPad or a set of jewelry inspired headphones from Frends.

2013-12-24-FrendsFrendsWithBenefitsTaylorHeadphones31.jpg

HFB: What are a few of your go to tips for dressing fabulous and warm during the holiday season?
JK: "Well, I've never met a jumpsuit I didn't love. You can pair it with a jacket or a blazer during the day and then quickly switch to an evening look by adding a few embellishments with jewels.

I'm also loving the juxtaposition of casual pieces paired with more formal pieces such as a sweatshirt with a pencil skirt.

Oh and you can never go wrong with a fun fur. Throw on a fur with a pair of leather leggings and an embellished top and you're good to go."

HFB: What item can't you live without when heading to a holiday soirée ?
JK: "Definitely a red lip. It instantly brightens your face!"

Selena Gomez Reportedly Battling Lupus, Taking Time Off To Deal With Health Concerns

When Selena Gomez announced that she was canceling the Asian and Australian leg of her tour to take some time for herself, rumors that the singer was rehab-bound after suffering a breakdown began buzzing. But according to a new report, the "me time" Gomez is seeking is to deal with the fact she's suffering from Lupus.

Sources told Popdust that the 21-year-old singer was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease a couple of years ago, and suffered multiple "flares" recently, that cause facial swelling, extreme fatigue, headaches and joint pain.

“Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now,” a source told the website. “She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life."

A rep for the singer told the Huffington Post "no comment" when asked if Gomez was suffering from the disease. However, when rehab rumors first started a source denied the reports to E! News, but made mention of the singer's health concerns:

"She is not having a breakdown. She wants to be the healthiest that she can be and this means taking a little break. But she is fine. She is OK."

Going Out Is Overrated, According To New Year's Eve Survey (INFOGRAPHIC)

We, of all people, love an opportunity to get glammed up (the way our grandparents did back in the day), but as a survey by wine brand Barefoot Bubbly reveals doing so on New Year's Eve may be overrated.

According to their poll of 1,000 adults, 66 percent of Americans plan on celebrating New Year's Eve this year, but 54 percent of those plan on doing so at home.

The consensus, which appears to be based on revelers' experiences going out on New Year's eve previous years, is that the festivities rarely live up to their expectations.

Check out more of the survey findings in the infographic below. And tell us: Going out or staying in? Which will you be doing this New Year's Eve?

William and Harry brought their sibling rivalry to the field for a good cause.

The royal brothers hit the field on Tuesday at Castle Rising in Norfolk, England to compete in an annual charity soccer game. About 100 spectators turned out to watch the game, which ended in a score of 2-2 when Harry scored the final goal, according to the Daily Mail.

Prince William has also been busying himself with a number of other charitable efforts at home. Last month, he and his wife, Kate, visited the Only Connect Charity center to learn more about how the organization helps to reform former prisoners.

Harry was also fresh off a charity trip to Antarctica, still sporting his beard. The prince joined the Walking with the Wounded South Pole Challenge, and trekked 200 miles with injured soldiers to the South Pole, according to the Associated Press.

Travel Gear: 9 Items for the Slopes in 2014

"The weather can get a little rough at times," understates Craig Simson, Ski Patrol Director at Keystone Resort, Colorado, who begins each workday with a 7am briefing at the summit of Dercum Mountain. "At our elevation -- 9,280 to 13,000 feet above sea level -- temperatures go well below zero degrees through February."

Being prepared, says Simson, is a matter of proper layering and efficient, lightweight gear. But it can be a challenge to keep up with new technology and styles. Since few people on the planet are better prepared for harsh winter elements than Simson and his colleagues, I asked a few outdoor winter professionals what they'll be wearing on the slopes in 2014.

1. Insulation

As anyone who has ever played outside in the mountains knows, even though conditions change rapidly, there is no such thing as bad weather -- only improperly layered clothing. I'm a big fan of natural underlayers like wool and/or silk. Nau makes an insulating merino wool-blend M2 Hoody, in which I plan to live this winter. When checking the forecast for the day's adventure, Simson stresses the ability to add or shed appropriate layers, and the importance of wearing material with dimpled air pockets.

"Air equals insulation," he says, before telling me about Patagonia's R1-R4 four-level layering system -- R1 "core warmth" through R4 windproof. "On really cold days, I'll wear an R4 with the Helly Hansen H2 Flow jacket under my uniform," he says.

2013-12-22-skihike.jpg

Photo: Megan Michelson. Professional skier and author Jeremy Benson relies on durable outerwear that breathes to keep him dry on the climbs.

2. Outerwear

Some shells protect you in the wind and ice but get claustrophobic once you start hiking. Jeremy Benson, professional big mountain skier and author of a backcountry ski guidebook to California, recommends the Flylow gear. He says, "Their Lab Coat and Compound Pant are a crucial part of my backcountry ski kit. The [Polartec NeoShell] material is waterproof and breathable, keeping me dry and able to regulate temperature better than any other jacket and pant I have ever worn. This is especially important for me during long days in the backcountry when I spend the majority of my time going up the hill."

Similarly, Oakley's Biozone Jacket was designed with a variety of wind and moisture-blocking materials placed at strategic points across the torso for simultaneous protection and ventilation. These new hybrid shells are essential to anyone planning to earn their turns with some hiking.

3. Goggles

I've been skiing with the same scratched, duct-taped goggles for years. When I asked Dr. Tom Hackett, Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, what I should upgrade to, he recommends Anon Optic's M2 goggles. He says, the "magnetic lens mechanism is amazing. Now you can swap out lenses from flat light to bright sun on the lift without a degree from Caltech in Engineering. There are dozens of lenses to choose from and even on a heavy powder day I carry a spare in case I wipe out or get fogged up. The optics are insane and visualization equals safety. Don't skimp!"

4. Touchscreen gloves

How else are you going to edit the footage of that last kicker and post it to the world while riding the chairlift up for the next run? There are more and more touchscreen gloves on the market, so definitely try a few styles on to find one that's snug and gives you the most control of your screen. Gordini has a silk-lined Tactic Gauntlet glove with a soft, warm feel and raised touchscreen material on forefingers and thumbs which works surprisingly well.

For milder days or off the slopes, Mujjo makes a double-layered wool-knitted touchscreen glove, which fits snugly and works even when wet. In addition to touchscreen materials on the fingers, the Mujjo glove has grippy dot patterns on the palms so you don't drop your phone on a snowboarder below.

5. Ski and Boot

I learned how to ski on K2s back in the 1980s and it is the only brand I've ever owned. After a hiatus of several years, to get back in the game, I wanted a modern, all-terrain, fairly forgiving rocker ski. K2's AMP Rictor 90 XTi fit the bill. It is described as a "bridge model" between K2's all-mountain resort skis and and their backcountry Freeride collection.

On my feet, I'm trying K2's new boots, even though this is the longtime ski company's first ever season in the boot business. Their Pinnacle series is the top of the line, with a form-fitting interior that hugs foot, shin, and heel for the best possible fit. The Pinnacle 110 and 130 also accommodates both DIN-alpine and Tech binding systems without having to change the outsoles, and its "Synchro interlock system" allows a relatively comfortable walking mode with one click, releasing a wider range of fore-aft motion for skinning up that ridge... or clomping across that parking garage.

6. Hydration and hot drinks

"I can't stress enough the importance of staying hydrated when you're participating in winter sports like skiing and snowboarding," says Michelle French, director of ski patrol for Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort, where many of ski patrol team members use hydration packs. "When you live, work and play in a very dry climate like Las Vegas, having a grab-and-go hydration pack is a must. I like the Jetflow Tomahawk hydration pack because it allows me to drink my favorite electrolyte-enhanced beverages like PowerAde or Essentia Water, without the hassle and mess of having to clean out a plastic bladder after a busy day on the slopes."

I also dig the Jetflow Tomahawk for the same reason. I stopped using bladder-based hydration system years ago after yet another moldy tube incident. I went back to schlepping, clipping, or pocketing my water bottles. The Jetflow pack is based on an idea so simple it's hard to believe it took this long to arrive. You just screw in any store-bought plastic water bottle (or your old Nalgene; it comes with adapters) into a slick little daypack, and a water tube and mouthpiece deliver whatever's inside (it also works with Gatorade and other sports drink bottles). There is plenty of padding, so you don't feel the bottle against your back and you'll never have to worry about soaking a nasty bladder again.

2013-12-22-thermos.jpg
To keep the hot stuff hot on a cold day skiing, I've never seen anything as efficient as the Hydro Flask insulated stainless steel thermos and water bottles. They are phenomenally efficient, delivering piping hot innards for hours after you pack it full of chili, soup, or toddy -- and you can fit in the Jetflow Tomahawk side pocket.

7. Backcountry kit: shovel, probe and a beacon

This is basic knowledge for anyone used to skiing out of bounds, but as more and more skiers push into the "side country," terrain adjacent to ski areas, accessible by the same lifts, it's important enough to repeat: Bring a shovel, probe and beacon! Together they make nothing less than "The Holy Trinity of deep snow," says Dr. Tom Hackett, Orthopaedic Surgeon and Head Team Physician for the United States Olympic Snowboard Team in Sochi. He says, "This gear can save your life or that of your friend should you get sluffed or get a little too close to an avalanche. I like the Tracker 2 Beacon. Easy to use and even under the most heinous conditions it will not let you down. Black Diamond makes a killer probe pole and shovel. Lightweight and a no-brainer on deep snow days."

8. Helmet

2013-12-22-helmet.jpg
Tight and light. That's how I like my helmet, whether on skis or my snowboard. Bern meets both requirements while providing ample cranial coverage, air vents, and ear flaps. Its sleek gray profile is a fairly common sight on the slopes, and also hugging the head of Craig Simson, Ski Patrol Director at Keystone Resort, Colorado. "The Bern helmet has a few things I like," he says. "I like the look, fit, insulation and the way that the brim holds my goggles when they're up." And it weights less than one pound.

Photo (right) by Ian Coble. Steven's Pass, Washington, skier unknown.

9. Gear bag

You've got all your gear, now stow it properly and protect it from the non-tranquilo elements of travel (baggage handlers, dirty bus racks, highway slush). Any sturdy, weatherproof ski bag will provide some protection and is better than nothing. The Völkl All Equipment Bag is one of the roomier, burlier bags I've seen, with just the right number of straps, handles, and wheels. I fit a snowboard, adult skis, and 2 pairs of children's skis no problem, with plenty of room to stuff fleeces and outerwear for extra padding.

To All The Women Out There Who Hate Bikini Waxes: 2013 Was Your Year

$

There are some women who swear by Brazilian waxes. But for the rest of you, those who view down-there hair removal as legalized torture, take heart: This was your year.

It's not as if the clock was totally turned back on the grooming trends. But over the course of 2013, we sensed more and more signs that the norm for down-there grooming was shifting. Sure, a few polls and anecdotes can't prove a seismic shift in pub(l)ic opinion. But if there's even the slightest indication that the standards for bikini-area maintenance are loosening, we know tons of women who will be incredibly happy.

One poll found 51 percent of women aren't grooming down there at all.
A UKMedix.com survey of 1,870 women across the UK ages 18-30 asked, "Do you style or groom the hair in your bikini region?" 49 percent said yes, while 51 percent said no. Of those 51 percent who have foregone grooming, 45 percent said they "used to, but don't any longer."

Another survey found men aren't even that crazy about Brazilian-style waxes.
A survey of 1,000 men done by by hair removal company Nad's found that men's most preferred "look" was not a Brazilian, but rather "'trimmed and tidy' –- a well kept 'lady garden.'" 43 percent of men polled said they preferred women's hair natural with a "Bermuda triangle" (i.e. trimmed hair and waxed sides), and only 12 percent said they prefer a full-on Brazilian (no hair at all).

Gwyneth Paltrow went on the record saying, "I work a '70s vibe..."
Sure, she was mostly joking. But Paltrow's comical anecdote on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" about her emergency shaving situation ("Let's just say everyone went scrambling for a razor...") raised more than a few eyebrows and likely made women who really are working a '70s vibe feel that much better.

Lady Gaga posed nude with her natural, ungroomed hair exposed.
"Typically, everything down there is shaved, waxed, and stripped; having an artist of Gaga's caliber go against the status quo -- especially for a publication like Candy -- toys with our perceptions of what's considered normal," noted Refinery29 about Gaga's Candy magazine cover.

American Apparel sold a shirt featuring a drawing of a menstruating, hair-covered vagina.
Yep, no bikini waxes there. And no apologies or regrets by American Apparel or the artist who drew the image, Petra Collins.

It became clear that getting bikini waxes is actually bad for your health.
According to HuffPost Healthy Living, a small study out of Nice, France, found an association between pubic hair removal and an increased risk of sexually transmitted Molluscum contagiosum (a yucky skin virus). Waxing can also lead to infections, burns and ingrown hairs.

Instead of getting that wax, try some of these tips:

Paris Hilton Says She's One Of The World's Top 5 DJs

Somehow over the last few years, Paris Hilton has grown from a reality star to an actual DJ. What's more, the heiress tells TMZ that her new–found career has proven incredibly successful.

Asked how lucrative her DJing is, Hilton casually responded, "I'm one of the top 5 in the world, so…"

Hilton reportedly makes between $100,000 and $350,000 for each of her live DJ sets, so her claim isn't implausible. The 32-year-old spent this summer playing weekly gigs at the Amnesia nightclub's "Foam and Diamonds" parties, and has been contracted to do the same in 2014. TMZ reported that Hilton's sets drew in massive crowds and helped the star to prove that she could hold her own in the growing electronic music scene.

Additionally, the famous blonde signed on with record label Cash Money earlier this year and plans to release an album in the near future.

The Daily Mail crunched some numbers to see how Hilton really stacked up to the competition:

…she would still have to be doing a lot of gigging to break into the prestigious top five, which features Harris in first place with $46 million, Tiesto in second with $32m, David Guetta in third with $30m, Swedish House Mafia in fourth with $25m, and finally Canadian duo Deadmau5 at $21 million.

Anyone curious enough to want to witness Hilton's skills for themselves can catch her spinning on New Year's Eve, as she performs a live set at Hyde in Las Vegas's Bellagio Hotel.

Anne Hathaway Leaves A Bag Of Dog Poop As A Present For A Paparazzo

Anne Hathaway found what might be the very best way to tell the paparazzi to "back off."

On Dec. 26, the "Les Misérables" star decided to take stroll with her dog, Esmeralda, and she apparently wasn't keen on the idea of being followed by a man with a camera.

In a move that might turn Hathahaters to her side, the 31-year-old responsible dog owner, made sure to clean up after her pet -- leaving the yellow plastic bag full of canine excrement on the windshield of the paparazzo's car. The Oscar-winning actress left her gift for the photographer and proceeded with Esmerelda on their merry way.

Saggin or Suiting

The other day I was in a department store to purchase some batteries. While looking for the brand I preferred I noticed that the packaging was damaged. This happened to be the last one left as well. Even though It was damaged I decided to still go ahead and purchase it being that I really didn't like the other brands. When I reached the counter the clerk informed me that because the item was damaged they would offer it to me for half price. The company had devalued the product because the packaging was unattractive. I quickly agreed to the price change and left. Once I got home and opened it up I noticed that even though the package was damaged, the actual product was in excellent condition. I immediately put the batteries in the remote control and began using them. They worked perfectly and just as well as any others I had previsously purchased.

This got me to thinking about how individuals are devalued based simply on their appearance as well. Like it or not this happens all day every day. People are looked on as nerdy, tough guys, criminals, successful and unsuccessful based on their "packaging." Just like the batteries were still great despite the package being damaged, some individuals are the same way. They could be great thinkers, intelligent, wise and just overall nice people but people are judging them based on their package.

2013-12-18-saggypantsillustrationvlvertical.jpg

This brings up the issue our young people are going through now which is that of "saggin." For those who are unaware of what that is let me help you. Sagging is a manner of wearing trousers which sag so that the top is significantly below the waist, sometimes revealing much of the underwear. Sagging is predominantly a male fashion. Now I know every generation has their own popular style of expression. My generation had a few as well. I had the "Kid N Play" high top fade (you couldn't tell me I wasn't fly!). Also there was the "Kwame" Polka Dot movement and blond hair streaks. Also there was the big clown club/house shoes and club clothing. All of these were a way to express some sort of individualism, or rebellion against the system or even just a free spirit having fun. However, I believe it is a little different with saggin. Though the hightop fade was weird looking and the club shoes were strange they never crossed over into disrespectful or vulgar.

Now I know there are levels to saggin .....
1) slightly hanging below your waist, some underwear showing
2) the more popular halfway down the butt, shows plenty of underwear
3) Off the butt, all underwear showing

We also know that this style was popularized in the prison system, but also people see their favorite music and movie stars doing it as well. Also this isn't solely a young person style, this is done by older gentleman as well. So it can be disrespectful for women and children to witness in the street. Remember we learn by the examples we see. However the bigger problem is when individuals who sag constantly go for job interviews or go to conduct business. Generally saggin is just that, a style. The individuals who do so are just following the trend and style of their generation. But just like the damaged battery package, society will only see the outside and will devalue the individual totally.

Now there are bad apples in every bunch as we know, so certain individuals who sag may be into some sort of negative activity or unproductive lifestyle but that is not always the case. However the perception greatly effects those who do. I do not agree with the style itself primarily because of the image and I know how they will be viewed by those around them, Picture this....

You are walking down a street and you see 5 males standing in your way all saggin. How do you feel? What do you do? Now picture the same street and the same individuals but they are dressed in suits. Do you feel the same way? Do you do the same thing? 8 out of 10 people I asked had different reactions simply based on what the men were wearing. The same 5 men, the same mind, same history, same voices, the only thing that was different was their attire. Now we don't live our life based on the reaction of others, I am definitely against that but we have to realize the greatest resource in this world is people. We have to communicate, network, work and have relationships with people to be successful.

As a person who was part of hiring people at one time, I have seen individuals come to interviews saggin. Unfortunately they weren't selected for the position, and that was a major reason why. The perception that gives others is not a positive one. They could have been the better candidate but their package hurt them. Sometimes it is just a matter of not having the finances to buy a suit.

2013-12-18-pkandmel.JPG

The nonprofit I founded That Suits You tries to help address that issue. We provide professional attire to job trained and qualified men free of charge. We have suited almost 100 men with suits, shirts and ties. Some men come in saggin, but leave suited. Some have never worn a suit before, some have never even tied a tie. As we presented the suits to them some have even cried. Society may have seen them as damaged and may have devalued them but we know that is not the truth and some just need a different package to get an opportunity to show that they are unique, talented and gifted. The package doesn't always give a true value of the product. By the way my remote is still working just fine!

Dianna Agron Says She Is A 'Tomboy'

You know Dianna Agron as the posh "Glee" cheerleader, Quinn Fabray. But in real life, the actress takes on a different, less–feminine role.

Agron recently spoke with Britain's InStyle magazine about her personal boyish style. "My style is total tomboy," she confessed.

This could come as a surprise to fans who are only familiar with Agron's on–screen persona. The actress emphasized to the magazine that she prefers clothing that is "girlie with an edge."

"I do love skirts and dresses when I want to feel feminine or if I'm dressing for the carpet. But I like finding a balance between feminine and masculine. My style in real life has just become much more casual," she explained.

This style inspiration is made more believable by the fact that Agron was caught shopping at Urban Outfitters last month.

However, dressing casually doesn't mean that fashion isn't an important part of the actress' life. For her, casual is a distinct style, not an excuse to be more comfortable. Agron attended the 2012 Louis Vuitton "train" show in Italy and told Glamour magazine about her budding interest in high fashion. "I felt transformed … From that point on, fashion was going to play a big role in my world," she said of the experience.

9 Tricks To Pull Off A Midday Workout (Without Looking Disgusting)

$
0
0
Expectation: You'll dash away from your desk, toss on sneakers, hit the elliptical for 20 minutes, take five more minutes to splash water on your face (or, even better, some of that fancy Evian water spray) and be back at your desk looking fresher than ever.

Reality: It's nearly impossible to look good after a midday workout.

And yet we're determined to incorporate them into our routines this year, even if just a few times a month. So we're going to get real about what you need to pull off the afternoon gym visit and not look disgusting when you return to your desk.

BEFORE:

Wear a work outfit without tons of layers -- and preferably a dress instead of pants.
You will probably be a little overheated when you finish your workout and loathe to pull tight layers onto your perspiring body. Give your body room to air out in a dress. By the time you get back to your desk, you'll be perfectly cooled down.

Bring an extra pair of undies or wear running shorts with undies built in.
Sure, it's gross, but we've got to talk about it: Working out gets you sweaty... everywhere. And you're not going to want to sit at your desk for the rest of your day in damp undergarments. So plan ahead.

Put your hair in a braid, not a ponytail.
A pony is OK, but often the hair on the underside of the ponytail, above the nape of your neck, often comes loose, reuslting in sticky hair on a sweaty neck. Tighten your strands into a French braid so that nothing comes out, keeping everything as fresh and dry as possible.

Use soft ponytail holders, not tight elastics.
Or better yet, try a scrunchie -- really anything to avoid getting dents in your silky smooth hair.

AFTER:

Use dry shampoo... but only if your hair is actually dry.
If you walk out of the gym with damp, sweaty hair, the powdery dry shampoo won't be as effective. (You all remember Ross' infamous leather pants scene from "Friends" -- "The lotion and the powder have made a paste!") If your hair is too wet, shake it out a little then put it back up in a braid or ponytail to air-dry. No one wants a paste situation.

Use oversized cleansing towelettes to wipe down your body in place of a shower.
Fresh-scented wipes like Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes or Garnier Nutrioniste Nutri-Pure Detoxifying Wet Cleansing Towelettes can do wonders when you're short on time and, uh, soap.

Choose tinted moisturizer instead of a heavy, pore-clogging foundation.
Don't hide your post-workout glow... and don't cake makeup over your newly-opened and refreshed pores. Try a thin tinted moisturizer instead of thicker foundation on that dewy skin.

Skip eye makeup... except for mascara.
Eye shadow on a damp face is a disaster. But mascara will glide onto lashes smoothly even with the dewiest of skin, and it magically gives you that wide-eyed, made-up look.

Spritz on some perfume.
Buy a mini size of your favorite scent, or have the folks at Sephora pour a pricey one into a free little sampler for you. (They'll do that, you know!) On your way out of the gym, will yourself to believe you look fresh and awesome -- and not hot and disgusting -- with a boost from your favorite fragrance.

Some cute ideas of what to wear:

Chris Pine Says Working With Lindsay Lohan Was A 'Cyclone Of Insanity'

Nearly a decade ago, Chris Pine was a virtually unknown actor who landed the role of Lindsay Lohan's love interest in the undeniable flop, "Just My Luck."

Much has changed for both stars in the years since the film premiered in 2006, and Pine's career is at an all-time high. Now, he recalls the absolute insanity of working with Lohan, who at 18 was commanding $7.5 million paychecks and was considered one of Hollywood's most promising young actresses.

"It was a real cyclone of insanity, like being around The Beatles," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "It was fascinating to watch, and in hindsight it's really a distinct moment in someone's life when you see what's really wonderful about what we get to do and what's really dangerous about it."

Before "Just My Luck," Pine's biggest role was in the 2004 film "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement," opposite Anne Hathaway. As crazy as it was, working with Lohan (who, if you believe her father, allegedly overdosed on cocaine at some point while shooting the film) proved valuable for Pine, who learned not to buy into your own hype.

"Hollywood is like living in a weird bubble," he explained to THR. "A bunch of people take care of you and get you stuff, and you're the center of that little microcosmic world. You start believing that it is real and … you deserve it."

Today, the fate of Lohan's career hangs in the balance. Her more recent co-stars and directors have expressed that just as much chaos surrounds her. Paul Schrader, who directed Lohan in the widely-panned 2012 film "The Canyons," called her a "train wreck" and sums up working with her in just a few words: "Tardiness, unpredictability, tantrums, absences, neediness, psychodrama."

Fight Back Against Dandruff With Home Remedies

$

Dandruff can be a very embarrassing problem, and it can be difficult to treat. There are many causes for dandruff, such as seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis or not washing your hair enough. However, the majority of the time, it is not caused by poor hygiene. Drugstore remedies are able to take care of the problem, but they don't always work if the source of the dandruff is compound or unknown. Products containing coal tar or selenium sulfide can be helpful, but they may have some side effects or have a generally unpleasant smell to them.

Drugstore products can also be expensive to pay for over and over again, for a problem that never really goes away. Instead, there are a few home remedies that can be used to help reduce the symptoms of the condition. These are common household products that you'll normally find lying around the home in your kitchen or medicine cabinet, and are much cheaper alternatives to going to the pharmacy or grocery store.

Aspirin has more uses than simply treating a headache. By taking two tablets of aspirin, you can crush them into a fine powder and add it to the amount of shampoo that you would use to wash your hair. Once it's in lather, let it remain in the hair for one to two minutes and then rinse. Then wash the hair again with normal shampoo in order to eliminate any powder that may remain. This is because aspirin contains salicylates, which is the active ingredient in dandruff shampoos that contain salicylic acid.

Natural oils, such as coconut oil, almond oil or olive oil, can be used to keep the scalp moisturized and prevent dandruff. Simply warm up some oil in a bowl and apply with a scalp massage, ensuring that the entire scalp is covered. Wrap the hair and scalp in a towel and leave the oil on overnight. Then rinse the hair in the morning.

Vinegar isn't just for cleaning your windows or adding to French fries. It can be used to keep your scalp from becoming flaky. After regular shampooing, mix two cups of apple cider vinegar with two cups of cold water and use to rinse the shampoo from your hair. Alternatively, you could apply white vinegar to the scalp and leave it on overnight with a towel, and then wash out of the hair with regular shampoo the next day.

Baking soda can get rid of those funny smells in your cupboards and your fridge, but it's also an easy treatment option for dandruff. Replace your shampoo with baking soda for a few weeks; vigorously rub a handful of baking soda into the scalp and rinse thoroughly. Repeat as you would in your regular schedule of washing your hair.

A lemon juice massage to the scalp can help eliminate the troublesome flakes of dandruff. Massage the juice into the hair and leave it for fifteen to twenty minutes, and then rinse off in the shower. Repeat every day in order to maximize the results.

If you experience dandruff along the hairline, then you may have what is called Seborrheic Dermatitis, which can be treated with any of the above remedies. Concentrate any of these remedies along the scalp line, taking care to massage it well into the skin in order to ensure that there is full coverage.

Don't let dandruff control your life and hold you back from wearing your favorite outfits. Throw the hat away and let your healthy hair and scalp take center stage as you kiss dandruff goodbye.

24 Things Millennials Need To Get Over Already

Brunch is lame, you're not that old and you're certainly not a real DJ!

Millennials haven't been on this Earth for that long, relatively speaking, so it's understandable that they're still figuring out some things -- like how to take photographs that aren't selfies, or that the old 90s shows on Nickelodeon ended for a reason. But as we move into 2014 and start thinking about which resolutions we're going to stick with this year, how about focusing on making sure you retire a few of these things that have overstayed their welcome.

1. Brunch

85651523

This will be controversial to say, but brunch -- at least in the way that millennials are known to enjoy it -- is a terrible idea, and it's baffling that it has existed for so long. You have to wake up early and start drinking in the morning. It burns you out and makes you sleepy -- or drunk -- for the rest of the day. Brunch would be perfect if the whole tradition, pancakes, mimosas, crepes and all, was moved to 4 p.m. It makes absolutely no sense that large swaths of the millennial generation are losing big chunks of their weekend to this brunch thing, when they could being doing countless other activities -- or even just catching up on sleep -- instead.

2. Selfies

131966381

The year of the selfie was 2013, which means 2014 should be the year the selfie dies. Human subjects make images more powerful, but a selfie is cheating, as you usually don't really look that interesting in your own photo. Instead, we could be on the lookout for other people in the world that could make your photographs stand out. The popularity of selfies in 2013 reminds of the early years of YouTube, when people would just upload videos of themselves lip-syncing because people didn't know how to do things any better yet. You have an amazing camera in your pocket at all times, use it more wisely.

3. Disney

TK TK gifs

The Disney corporation has gotten a free pass for far too long, and 2014 is the year their fairytale should end. For some reason, the childlike wonder of Disney makes us forget that some of it is literally made by sweatshop children wondering when their next meal will be. Also, did you know Disney Executives discussed how sexually attractive the Little Mermaid was? And really, the whole world doesn't need to be framed in the context of Disney Princesses. Disney continued its domination of your heart in 2013 by buying the rights for "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones," and truly stopping the love for their films will be impossible. Just remember Disney magic was created by ad men like Don Draper and not wizards like Merlin.

4. Karaoke

83827001

Although it's hard to do so while drunk, stepping out of the moment and really thinking about how ridiculous karaoke is can be a pretty sobering thought. In the middle of a bar or party, you're forcing everyone to hear you sing, usually in a jokey sort of ironic way that only you and your friends are even enjoying. Pop star simulations should be left to music videos you can make at mall kiosks, or while in the shower.

5. Being "so old"

117150752

You're not that old.

6. Reality TV shows like "Duck Dynasty" and "Buckwild"

TK TK gifs

Much has been said about exploitative reality shows like "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," but of course calling shows like this exploitative implies the subjects of these shows don't have the intelligence to consent or the free will to act however they please, so that's not necessarily why these shows are inherently bad. What's wrong is when the shows and their producers encourage the subjects to continue dangerous lifestyles for our amusement ("Buckwild" was cancelled after star Shain Gandee died while off-roading on an ATV) or gives their subjects a pulpit and power they probably shouldn't be given ("The Duck Dynasty" controversy).

7. Brands

Brands aren't cool simply because of their ubiquitous inclusion in millennial pop culture. That's it.

8. Cats

TK TK gifs

The Internet may finally be falling out of love with cats. Fur right meow, it is unclear whether millennials are already beating a dead cat horse, or if they've jumped the cat shark just yet, but the end of the cat reign seems to be nigh.

9. Multi-tasking

98472749

It's not even possible, so stop it. Maybe you're OK at doing many things in a small time frame, but there's probably a more effective way. Even better, instead of multi-tasking just get more sleep. Don't burn out, millennials!

10. FOMO

169937458

Allow yourself to be freed from the "fear of missing out." You can't see everything, you can't do everything, and you can't be everywhere, yet somehow you'll be alright. You should be able to breathe easy. Sometimes staying at home on Netflix and not hanging out with friends is a perfectly fine way to spend a night.

11. DJs

skd257234sdc

Although maligned for years, DJs are still everywhere. Even though some millennial DJs have had to sell their equipment to pay for rent or babies, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. In a digital age when venues can just turn on a playlist, the "art of curation" could be done by a bartender with a crossfade app and a Spotify subscription. It's rare that a DJ actually has music production skills or puts on some sort of "performance," or that the venue is intimate enough that they can actually "feel the temperature" of the room and choose songs accordingly. For this reason, the vast majority of DJs are dumb. Paris Hilton is one of the top five DJs in the world (at least according to her), so there's that too.

12. "Indie"

TK TK gifs

This term, which once stood for "independent" and was applied to something "underground" in nature, is now useless, from films to music. Maybe indie games still are in at the moment, but the term really should just be retired.

13. The Illuminati

88179554

Although a world where Jay Z and Beyoncé are the head of The Illuminati and Blue Ivy Carter is the heir to the throne is a pretty appealing dream, millennials should just give it a rest with all the conspiracies. If you stare at the eye above the tower long enough it isn't going to wink at you.

14. Superheroes

sb10063017g007

Superheroes aren't supposed to be everywhere, because then they become less super. When we have half a dozen films every year, with most featuring more than one superhero, they kinda just become normal heroes. Superman? More like Man. Iron Man? Also just Man. Wonder Woman? More like ... wait, this movie didn't even get made despite news of lesser superheroes like Ant Man getting their own movies. Superhero films also have a gender problem.

15. Taking Frisbees too seriously

95873332

Frisbees = fun. Bros taking it way too seriously = not fun. If you've never watched an Ultimate Frisbee match, you've probably incorrectly assumed that they're fairly chill affairs, which isn't the case at all. Matches are characterized by rigid plays that seem solely to exist for players to prove to spectators that this is a "legitimate sport." Nowhere else in the world can you see a drunk (or at least hungover) bro care so much about whether a teammate has kept in the "stack" or whether the "weave" was executed with perfect cuts.

16. Startups

179708563

Being the next Mark Zuckerberg or the next Snapchat ghost is basically the peak of the American dream for millennials. A whole media enterprise has been launched solely to criticize the people fueling this startup world. Ignoring the potential tech bubble, mostly it's just annoying that Silicon Valley seems to think of themselves as America's most successful punk scene, with their use of words like "disrupt" to talk about plans to oust contemporary industries with supposedly forward-thinking technological innovations.

17. Harry Potter

TK TK gifs

Millennials still can't seem to get enough of the wizard boy who lived. There's nothing wrong with Harry Potter, except it seems like it's time to move on from Hogwarts and remind ourselves that, despite our deepest wishes, we can't stay in school forever.

18. Grammar Nazis

Maybe 2014 will finally be the year of the Grammar Nazi's demise. Instead of obsessing over Merriam and Webster, perhaps Grammar Nazis will move on to a role model like Alien, a character from the 2013 film "Spring Breakers," who taught us that there isn't just one way to speak, and that American English is wonderfully diverse. "This is the fuckin' American dream. This is my fuckin' dream, y'all! All this sheeyit! Look at my sheeyit!" he wisely spoke. America the beautiful.

19. Nick Nostalgia

TK TK gifs

The nostalgia party is over. It's been decades since these shows were on the air, which makes them interesting to remember for a moment, but not over a whole block of "Nick at Nite." Zach Morris? More like Zach BOREis, amirite?

20. Energy drinks

200559150002

Red Bull is a very "cool" entity, from their Music Academy to their magazine to sponsoring someone's skydive from space to etc., etc. But despite the awesome things that surround the brand, the actual liquid in the can just isn't that good for you, and is leading to increased hospital visits. Other energy drink competitors are also making questionable moves to keep you drinking until we become an Idiocracy nation.

21. Contemporary "folk pop"

108198608

Mumford & Sons may have finally announced an indefinite hiatus this year, but that only left room for countless other musicians to try to take over the folk pop reins of melodic terror. There isn't anything inherently wrong with "folk" or even "folk pop." But for some reason the genre seems to come with a sense of pretension, like it's better than other pop artists and is somehow more "real," because they play acoustic guitars, bang on expensive trashcans and sing about sad things (in between yelling "hey" or other monosyllabic exclamations). Meanwhile, the bands seem to have sold out to any and every ad or movie trailer that has come asking.

22. Vampires/Zombies

142827476

Somehow the vampires and zombie genres are still going on as if they -- and not just the fictional characters behind them -- are actually immortal. We don't need more vampire and zombie books, television shows or movies in 2014, even if the writer promises it's somehow a "fresh take." It's likely not, and the writer or producer is just looking for fresh blood, brains and money, so maybe it's time to ignore it.

23. Hannah Horvath-ing

TK TK gifs

Hannah Horvath is the main character in the millennial defining HBO show "Girls." Although it's a good show, it's now hard to say whether Horvath emulates millennials or if millennials have started emulating her, and the generational traits of both seem to keep bouncing off each other and getting more and more exaggerated. Although there probably aren't too many millennials asking themselves, "What would Hannah Horvath do?" there are probably plenty who have excused an action or life choice because she did it on the show. Hannah Horvath-ing is what you do when you don't want to take personal responsibility for an action, either because your parents and society were enablers, or because other cultural forces seem to encourage it.

24. Hating Lindsay Lohan, Kanye West and other celebrities

You can hate the idea of "Kanye West," or you can hate his music or his contributions to society, but it's important to recognize that you don't and probably never will know "Kanye West" the actual person. We should all realize that there are humans behind these celebrity personas, and that their lives are probably more complex than we're willing to admit.

9 Ridiculously Easy Ways To Stop Being A Slob At Home In 2014 (PHOTOS)

If you weren't born with the organizing gene, you've probably surveyed the pile of clothing where your bedroom floor used to be and have said: "This year, I will stop doing this."

And we know what happens: Absolutely nothing. For seriously messy people, taming messy habits is harder than weight loss. Especially when you live with other people, who are also just as messy.

2014 can be the year that the madness stops. The secret is in easy, small changes that will slowly become habits, which is all you need to turn the slob train around.

Here are a few starting points:

Fold Better. You'll fit more in every drawer, which fights the excuse "I don't have enough space for all of my old Nirvana t-shirts."

Stop Throwing Things Haphazardly In Junk Drawers. Put a utensil organizer in every drawer, so at least you're forced to put things in compartments.

No Drawers? Add Bins Instead. You'll triple your storage space, so you no longer have any reason to put everything on counters and floors.

Labels Can Re-Train You. If you put something in one place daily, eventually it'll become a habit.

Purge Your Closet. This handy guide will help prevent you from hugging a stained sweater from college while fighting back tears, five minutes into the exercise.

Follow These Super-Basic Rules. Common sense, but you're likely ignoring at least two of these.

Keep Cleaning Supplies Handy. Because if you can't find them under your sink in a second, you won't use them at all.

Stick To A Schedule (That Someone Else Made). If left to your own devices, you'll start rifling through your bookshelves, only to end up lost in an early '90s issue of Rolling Stone that you somehow acquired. Printable charts, schedules and checklists fill the Internet for a reason.

Take 10 Minutes Daily To Put Stuff Back In Its Place. Everyone has 10 minutes.

Here are a few more shortcuts you can take:

Harry Styles, Kendall Jenner Spotted At California Snowboard Shop

It's been a few weeks, but Hendall (or Karry, whichever portmanteau you prefer) is still a thing.

The rumored couple, were once again spotted together -- this time at a snowboard shop in Mammoth Lakes, Calif, according to E! News. If you're looking for proof that the 19-year-old One Direction member and the 18-year-old reality star were united once again, look no further than this photo shared by a fan named Allie Connolly, who captioned the snapshot, "Casually hanging out with Kendall Jenner and Harry Styles. #dying."

Rumors that the two were dating began in late November after they were spotted enjoying a dinner date at Craig's in West Hollywood. The pair made headlines again after it was reported that Jenner was waiting backstage for Styles while he performed on "Saturday Night Live," and the two unexpectedly hit up Therapy, a popular gay club in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen, after the show. On Dec. 15, Styles was spotted outside Jenner's London hotel at 2 a.m.

Kaley Cuoco's Wedding Cake Hung Upside Down From A Chandelier (Yes, Seriously)

"Big Bang" star Kaley Cuoco had one of the craziest wedding cakes we've ever seen. Why? Because it was hanging upside down all night, suspended from a crystal chandelier. You read that right -- upside down.

Cuoco posted the photo below on Instagram, with the caption "TY to #thebutterend for creating our magical chandelier cake. Literally hanging above us. EPIC", following her New Year's Eve fire-and-ice themed nuptials to Ryan Sweeting.

The six-tiered cake was made by The Butter End Cakery in Los Angeles. Owner Kimberly Bailey tells The Knot that creating the cake -- from planning to execution -- took about six weeks. As for how it stayed up, she said, "We had hung sandbags off the chandelier to make sure it would hold the weight of the cake. A center pull armature held the cake upright and board planks held the individual tiers."

Bailey's hard work paid off; the cake turned so many heads that Cuoco tweeted an additional photo of it.

Not only did the two-flavored cake look amazing, it was actually able to be cut while hanging upside down.

“If you look at the second to bottom tier, there’s a big hole in it,” Bailey told People. “That’s where she cut it. They cut it, they ate it.”

Cuoco isn't the first celeb to have an over-the-top cake. Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann's 2004 wedding featured a seven-foot tall, six-tiered cake topped with Swarovski crystals.

And in 2010, Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky reportedly spent $11,000 on a 500-pound, nine-tier cake, complete with 1,000 intricately designed sugar flowers.

We think Kaley's upside down confection still takes the cake (sorry, we had to!).
