Cameron Diaz Thinks Laser Hair Removal On Your Pubic Area Is 'A Crazy Idea'

$

Cameron Diaz has some strong opinions about the state of pubic hair beauty standards.

In her new book The Body Book: The Law Of Hunger, The Science Of Strength, And Other Ways To Love Your Amazing Body, the "Bad Teacher" and "Annie" star advises women against lasering their bikini area:
I hear that there’s a big fad these days of young women undergoing laser hair removal on all of their lady bit. … Personally, I think permanent laser hair removal sounds like a crazy idea. Forever? I know you may think you’ll be wearing the same style of shoes forever and the same style of jeans forever, but you won’t. The idea that vaginas are preferable in a hairless state is a pretty recent phenomenon, and all fads change, people.

Diaz is not alone in advocating that women feel comfortable rocking a fuller haircut "down there." According to The Cut, 2013 offered definitive proof that "bush is back." And in October 2013, artist Petra Collins shared her outrage when Instagram censored an image of her body that showed some untrimmed pubic hair.

Diaz reminds her book's readers that pubic hair is not just acceptable, but can be sexy:
Pubic hair also serves as a pretty draping that makes it a little mysterious to the one who might be courting your sexiness... Twenty years from now, you will still want to be presenting it to someone special, and it would be nice to let him or her unwrap it like the gift that it is.

We say that women should feel empowered to do whatever they want with their hair -- pubic or otherwise.

I went on a bender and it felt so good even though it was so bad. After almost four years of pregnancies, nursing, carrying extra weight from fertility meds, and then delivering twins, I finally lost it. BLACK YOGA PANTS BE DAMNED! It was time to revamp my wardrobe.

I am slowly getting rid of my maternity clothes and as I glacially lose weight (can someone please explain how I can produce over a pound of milk per day and not lose more?), I am tossing my collection of frighteningly cheap t-shirts with spit up stains all over them in sizes large enough for sumo wrestlers. I have only bought the crappiest of quality clothes over the last few years; I think they were designed to be disposable. And yet, my husband thinks I am a big spender. $3.99 t-shirts? That is big spending? The only women wearing thinner shirts than me are in music videos. I am not sure what more I could do to save money. Maybe grow my own local organic fig leaves to wear?

So, the other day, and after the millionth time I tried to convince my husband I am not a big spender, I decided to show him what a big spender looks like. So I went shopping. Twice in one day. And then online. And you know what? It felt fantastic to buy myself a few nice things! Things that actually fit correctly and are flattering. Items that make me walk taller, hold my head up, and take me eyes off the ground.

I bought shoes and a purse. I went to a favorite store and bought three shirts (all on sale!) I bought a pair of earrings and then splurged online and bought a wrap bracelet from another site I drool over. I bought two pairs of jeans. And I bought a top and skirt from a designer I have lusted over for years. I was weighed down with shopping bags yet felt lighter than I had in a long time.

As I was leaving the department store, a pair of boots in the shoe department caught my eye. So much so that I hurried over to take a closer look. So much so, in fact, that I asked to see a pair in a size 9 even though they were insanely expensive. When they told me they only had one pair left in a size 6 I exhaled. Had my size been in stock I would have faced a terrible dilemma: to buy or not to buy.

A couple of days later my husband gave me a $100 gift card for another department store. He closed a credit card account but redeemed points we had accumulated. The wheels started turning in my head. I check the store's website and THE BOOTS WERE THERE! I asked my husband if we had any points elsewhere that we could cash in. Three days later, another $75 in department store gift cards arrived. I was still about $200 short. Next step: eBay. I bought a pair of flats last year at a big discount (courtesy of a conference I attended). They do not go on sale often and since I had never worn them, I thought I might be able to sell them for a decent price. Listed and sold in less than an hour... another $130! So, I was now only about $70 short. I checked the website the following day and lo and behold, the beloved boots were 15 percent off! A couple of clicks here, a couple of deep breaths there, and the boots were on their way to my door step!!! And I think I paid maybe $20 for them! I felt like I got the deal of the century. The boots are the coolest thing I own now. Much cooler than I am. I was so excited when they arrived. My husband was not. Did I mention he was a vegan and the boots are leather? He disapproved on many levels.

So, yes, I lost it. I went binge shopping. I spent more in 24 hours on clothes and accessories than I had in four years! I have no regrets. It felt great! It also feels great every time I put one of my new purchases on. The only thing I wish I had done differently was doing it as a reaction to a disagreement. I wish I had gone shopping simply because it makes me happy and that my husband had been supportive. But he saves for tomorrow, while I live for today. Four years into our relationship, we're still trying to strike a balance. In the meantime, I will be walking tall, head held high, looking fabulous in my awesome new boots.

Sarah Jessica Parker's New Shoe Line Looks Like It Could Belong To Carrie Bradshaw

It's always been a kind of secret dream of ours to be Carrie Bradshaw. Sure, she's a little self-centered and has that nasty habit of asking herself inane rhetorical questions. But she's got the best shoe collection.

Our twisted dream just got a little more attainable (ish) with the debut of Sarah Jessica Parker's long-awaited shoe line, SJP. Lucky has a preview look at the line, which will be sold at Nordstrom, and the first shoe looks eerily familiar. In fact, as Racked points out, the black pointy-toe pump with a Mary Jane-like strap looks almost identical to the black Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes that Carrie salivated over in the Vogue closet.

The similarity shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. When Parker announced the launch of SJP, she was forthright about her intention to get inspired by her past. Not only is she creating the line in partnership with George Malkemus, president of none other than Manolo Blahnik USA; but a blog about the line on Nordstom.com specifically referenced the black Manolos from the famed Vogue closet episode of "Sex and the City."

So how soon can Carrie's -- er, Sarah Jessica's -- shoes be yours? The line hits Nordstrom stores by the end of February. Start readying those credit cards...

Congratulations are in order for Lacey Chabert, who tied the knot with a mystery man.

Just days after attending Kaley Cuoco's secret New Year's Eve wedding, the "Mean Girls" star made the announcement that she had pulled off one of her own with her boyfriend, whose name also remains a secret, according to People magazine.

The 31-year-old actress shared the good news with fans via Twitter on Jan. 3, and posted a photo from the covert affair with her sister, who acted as her maid of honor. The former "Party Of Five" star thanked fans for "all the sweet congratulations" and promised she'd post more photos from the wedding next week.

Which Watch Should I Watch Out For

$

I love wristwatches. In my earlier days, I was a Swatch collector. I eventually matured into more serious watches like Concords and Omegas. They are amazing instruments to toy with, wear and collect. Better watches are also easier to sell. They come in such a vast variety of materials, colors, metals, functions, etc. You could be a watch nut like me and own scores of them and switch from one to another. I have been known to switch off watches during one day like my girls wear multiple outfits of clothing in a day.

However, most people are practical and cost conscious and don't want to create their own watch store. They want to have one good watch. Today with smart and cell phones, some folks have decided that a watch is no longer necessary. I don't subscribe to that school of thought. Whether driving or at your desk, a wristwatch is always more accessible. To me the high quality automatic steel watch is the most versatile and most sensible.

With steel, it is durable and will not sweat or wilt like leather, particularly on hot days. It is also neutral and goes with everything you wear.

Automatic is the movement of purists. With a display back, nothing is more awesome to wear and watch. The finest movements available today are of course automatic. They are not all a fortune and even if you will not use it everyday, watch-winders to store them are now inexpensive.

The epitome of the fine steel watch is the Rolex. Plenty of deals abound for preowned ones as well. It is nice looking, high quality and speaks volumes as to your stature and taste. Less expensive is the Omega, also a very fine timepiece.

I have actually acquired well made automatics both new and preowned for under the $2,000.00 mark. In fact some nice automatics can be found for under $1,000.00

While I do like an adventure and challenge, I have scored many amazing deals on eBay. Make sure you have a well rated, multiple transaction seller. With Pay Pal payment you also get an added layer of protection. This is where some of my best finds have come from. In addition, there are many good on line dealers where you can also gave success.

I could go on and on about finding, selecting, buying, selling, etc. which I will in subsequent blog posts. Some inexpensive and nice quality pieces are also coming out of places other than Switzerland too. Need some tips or help with resolving a possible dispute, I am always an email away. Happy watch hunting!

Jay Z's Controversial Partnership With Barney's Nets $1,000,000 For Charity

Amid controversy comes some very good news.

Jay Z's holiday partnership with clothing retailer Barney's came under fire in late 2013 after the store was accused of racial profiling and detaining black shoppers who had purchased goods at the luxury department store. Jay Z was criticized for his decision not to sever ties with the retailer after a Change.org petition was made and signed by more than 58,000 people.

After the controversy arose, he made a statement on his blog and addressed the reasoning behind his decision to continue the collaboration. He wrote: "I am against discrimination of any kind, but if I make snap judgments, no matter who it’s towards, aren’t I committing the same sin as someone who profiles?"

Now his partnership is paying off. Though the final profits of sales from his A New York Holiday collection were still being tallied on Friday (January 2nd), the New York Daily News reports that the line has raised over $1,000,000 during its six-week run.

Jay Z had initially planned to donate 25 percent of the line's profits to his charity, the Shawn Carter Foundation, which provides scholarships for underprivileged individuals seeking higher education. He later changed the deal to give 100 percent of profits to the charity; Barney's also donated 10 percent of all store-wide profits to the Shawn Carter Foundation on the day of the line's launch.

The line's goods ranged in price from a $70 T-shirt to a $33,900 alligator skin-banded watch. This ring, created for Hoorsenbuhs, was included in the collection.

Eva Longoria Looks Amazing As Maxim's Woman Of The Year

Stripped down to nothing but a white tank top, Eva Longoria proudly graces the cover of Maxim's January/February issue as "Woman Of The Year."

eva longoria maxim

The actress has become well–known not just for her on screen roles, but as a producer, businesswoman and philanthropist. Longoria is an icon in the hispanic community as she launched the Eva Longoria Foundation, which harnesses education and entrepreneurship to inspire Latinas to be successful.

The 38–year–old recently made the cover of Hispanic Executive magazine's "Top 10 Leaders" issue.

Longoria graduated from Cal State Northridge with a master's in Chicano studies last May. "I take a lot of pride in my education and being civically engaged as an American," she told Hispanic Executive of her accomplishments. "It’s been a journey for me, but a really fun one. I feel like I haven’t even tapped into the potential I have as a human being."

Clearly, Maxim has taken note of her well–harnessed star power and Longoria is thrilled. "I've had a beautiful relationship with Maxim over all these years … When someone sees the cover of this issue, they're going to say, '¡Que rico!' … Say it when something is really good," she told the magazine.

Kellan Lutz Says He Isn't Dating Miley

Rumors have been flying about a budding romance between Miley Cyrus and Kellan Lutz. But apparently, they really are just rumors.

Kellan Lutz opened up about his love life in an interview with "On Air With Ryan Seacrest."

"Are we dating? No," Lutz told Seacrest of his relationship with Cyrus. The actor was promoting his movie "The Legend of Hercules" but took time to quiet all of the recent buzz about his relationship status.

"These rumors are hilarious. It just makes me laugh … I’ve been friends with Miley for like six years. She’s a great girl … we are friends [and] we run in the same circle," he explained.

Lutz needed to quash the public speculation about the nature of his friendship with Miley after the two have appeared together on multiple occasions, often acting intimate.

The actor values his friendship with Cyrus and told Seacrest that she is a "cool, secure woman." However, he isn't looking for a serious romantic prospect. "I’m happily single … I’m not [looking for a relationship] right now," he said. "I’m enjoying life and traveling quite a bit … there’s no real time to find the one."

Jay Z's Barney's Collection Reportedly Raked In Over $1 Million, Thanks One Percenters

Remember that ridiculously over-priced fashion collaboration between Jay Z and Barneys that was underscored by racial discrimination lawsuits against the luxury retail store? Well, apparently it was a huge success.

A source close to Barneys told the New York Daily News that after tallying the profits, on the last day of the sale this past Friday, the total exceeded $1 million. We're pretty shocked they were able to raise that much money considering the line was packed with $1,000 cotton shirts, $700 python baseball caps and more absurdities.

Then again, all they really needed to do was sell 17 of those $58,000 Rick Owens crocodile jackets to hit the mark -- or any other combination of the products that were apparently only priced for the wealthiest one percent of the population.

But, the silver (er, platinum) lining for the rest of the 99 percent of the world is that 100 percent of the collection's proceeds are being donated to Jay Z's Shawn Carter Foundation, which helps underprivileged kids pay for a college education.

Here's a look at the Jay Z x Barney's collection in it's entirety. Wowzas!

This Incredible Townhouse From House Beautiful Is What Dreams Are Made Of (PHOTOS)

A classic city townhouse is on the shortlist of nearly everyone's fantasy real estate purchases. One couple, Jennifer and Jimmy Oppenheimer, get to live the dream in their Chicago townhouse. Though the home's handsome features make it seem as if the property has been there for generations, it's actually new construction. (Local architect Phillip Liederbach carefully researched the iconic homes of the period designed by David Adler, for inspiration.)

To give their new home unforgettable style, the Oppenheimers called in the fabulous designer Steven Gambrel to create a look that's one part vintage and one (big) part modern drama. Check out the photos below to see what we mean, along with what you can learn from this incredible townhouse.

Check out more of this great project -- along with many other incredible homes -- in the February 2014 issue of House Beautiful, on sale January 14.

Zooey Deschanel Wants Us To 'Graduate' From 'Girl-On-Girl Hate'

As if Zooey Deschanel didn't already have us wrapped around her adorably manicured finger, the "New Girl" star's comments in ELLE's February issue have flung us head over sufficiently girly heels.

Deschanel covers the magazine's Women in TV issue, in which ELLE celebrates the smartest and funniest women on the small-screen. Other print editions of the February issue feature covers with Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler and Allison Williams.

When asked about the criticism that "girliness" implies weakness, Deschanel delivered a refreshingly candid response:

There has been a shift. I really have stood up for myself on multiple platforms. It’s sort of the grown-up version of middle-school nastiness, and I’m just like, come on. If there’s one thing I’d like to graduate from, it’s girl-on-girl hate. I don’t believe in it.

This isn't the first time Deschanel has been a vocal defender of girliness. In January 2013, the actress told Glamour: "We can't be feminine and be feminists and be successful? I want to be a f**king feminist and wear a f**king Peter Pan collar. So f**king what?"

We agree that baseless girl-on-girl hate has no place in 2014 or beyond, and we're so happy to see Ms. Deschanel is over it, too. Wisdom looks good in floral.

It looks like one "House of Lies" actress has sticky fingers in the aisles of the supermarket. Ayelet Ben–Shahar, who appeared on the Showtime series as Tanya, a high-end jewelry dealer, was allegedly caught stealing some $400 worth of groceries at a Gelson's Market in Studio City, reports TMZ.

Urban Outfitters Pulls 'Depression' Shirt From Shelves, Says It's Sorry (Again)

Urban Outfitters issued a mea culpa on Sunday after yet another controversial garment landed the retailer in hot water. The t-shirt in question bears the word "depression" in a busy repeating pattern -- because isn't depression, like, the coolest?

The shirt's existence came to light on Sunday after being tweeted alongside another offensive Urban shirt, the infamous "Eat Less" tee that the store pulled back in 2010.

Twitter and Facebook reactions were predictably swift, and by late afternoon Urban tweeted an apology as well as an explanation for the offensive shirt.

In a longer tweet, Urban stated, "We're sorry to those offended by the tee we bought from the @DEPRESSIONcomsg brand. We were trying to support a small brand, not glamorize mental illness in any way." True as that might be, Urban Outfitters has come under fire for making light of illness before. In May 2013, Urban was forced to apologize to addiction organizations for selling shot glasses, flasks and beer koozies designed to resemble prescription pill bottles as well as "Syringe Shot Shooters."

Now Urban finds itself with its tail between its legs yet again. The big winner here? Depression, the Singapore fashion label behind the shirt. The brand posted a news story about the controversy on its own Facebook page on Monday, noting simply, "Read about DEPRESSION'S brand story here."

Now we all will.

Just Urban being Urban:

Diet and Rehab: My New Year's Style Resolutions

2014-01-03-PaulaJslowRhiannajustoneeye.jpg

Right before the holidays, I spent two days shopping in Los Angeles with Jslow and writer/stylist/stylish Rhianna, whom we met while shopping at Acne Studios during one of our Fashion Week shopping excursions. She recently started work at the highly anticipated Dover Street Market that just debuted in New York.

Rhianna is a consignment junkie. Jslow and I are just plain junkies. We need retail rehab to ween ourselves off the quick full-price fix.

2014-01-06-balenciagashoesdecades.jpg

Balenciaga booties at left, Decades. Original price: $1,200. Scored for $250.

When I was young, like Rhianna (depressingly, she is less than half my age) I too was resourceful and scrappy as my tastes far outpaced my secretarial salary; I lived at Marshall's and Ross (the horror!) and thrift shops, waited for year-end clearance sales, and when I did pay full price, relied on lay-a-way. This strategy provided me a very fun, very chic, and very affordable wardrobe that produced promotions and boyfriends.

Through the years and better paying jobs, I started to gorge on more full-price apparel. My closet became obese, and my hangers sagged, full of expensive dead weight. I'd suffer fashion hangovers the mornings after evening trips to "Overpriced and Expensive.com".

And so off we went in Jslow's mom-mobile to scour consignment shops in tony Santa Monica, West Hollywood and Brentwood, where the rich and famous "suffer" retail bulimia, purging their designer cast-offs after a few wearings before they move onto their next fancy fashion plate.

In Santa Monica, we got lost in Great Labels, a nondescript storefront on a nondescript stretch of Wilshire. At first I found this small, cramped store overwhelming, as I dug deep through the packed racks, hoping to unearth fashion gold. Thankfully my efforts were rewarded with a Moschino Cheap and Chic Floral Coat, Norma Kamali cobalt blue trench, and an Emanuel Ungaro velvet evening duster, which at full price would have totaled over $3,000. I paid $422. Andrea Waters, the owner, could not have been nicer and more helpful, making me feel even better about my purchases.

We then hit 3020 Designer Resale, in the charming hamlet of Brentwood Village, which looks and feels more like a boutique than a typical consigner. They carried a finely edited selection of top labels including some very pricey gems (Including a Shearling Chanel bag for $12,000.) Here too the ladies behind the register were warm and welcoming. I scored a $50 Alexander Wang skirt and Y-3 track jacket, full price $1,500, here, $225.

Our last stop was Decades on Melrose, co-owned by Cameron Silver and Christos Garkinos, who starred in "The Dukes of Melrose" on Bravo. Cameron himself sashayed through sporting a giant suede poncho, price tags fluttering in his wake. And these price tags are steep, as Decades peddles in high-end vintage couture. But boy what fun. I walked out with a beautiful pair of Balenciagas pictured above. The heels were a steal.

I was exhilarated by our day of bargain hunting, and still facing sticker shock of the best kind. I woke up the next day without a fashion hangover (well, I did have a champagne hangover, but that's another story), but with a bounce in my step and a vow to make consignment a large part of my shopping life. Although I'm angry at myself for wasting so much money over the years, I'm happy to learn a much better way to afford and enjoy style in a much more meaningful way, especially at a time of such excess and waste.
Jslow, pictured below, knows all in her Alexander McQueen consignment top, sipping champagne at the Chateau Marmont.
2014-01-06-jslowchateau.jpg

I can't wait to dive into the world of consignment here in my hometown of San Francisco. Cris and SuiGeneris, here I come. Watch this space to follow my journey.

And in case you missed it, Jslow posted on the consignment scene in New York and online, which I highly recommend you revisit. While you're at it, you may want to ask Jslow to share some of her Los Angeles finds, which include an extraordinary Alexander McQueen floral blouse and Lanvin dress.

Rhianna, thanks for the retail rehab. I'm really hoping not to relapse. And my closet? Day one of it's diet is underway. It's determined to loose 25 pounds of fashion fat, and replace it with 5 pounds of high-quality consignment muscle. Wish us luck.
