Women Hanging Out With Turkeys -- A Thanksgiving Tradition For The Ages?

$
0
0
When you think of generic images of women on Thanksgiving you likely picture families eating dinner, watching football and enjoying each other's company. While there are plenty of eating and hugging images out there, stock photographers also apparently think there's a market for photos of women hanging out with turkeys (both dead and alive, feathered and stripped, cooked and uncooked).

Stock photos are notorious for being over the top -- and often downright absurd. We've shown you what women apparently do on Valentine's Day, how we use umbrellas and even what we look like when we're stressed. In order to truly give thanks to the delicious turkeys most of us eat around Thanksgiving, we present you women hanging out with turkeys.

Cool Makeup Transformation: Faces Turns Into Iconic 2D Prints (PHOTOS)

"2D or not 2D," that is not the question, but the title of a new collaborative project between a makeup-artist and a photographer who created a cool makeup transformation photo series.

Russian photographer Alexander Khokhlov and artist Valeriya Kutsan, along with assistant Veronica Ershova, transformed models' faces into 2D images that were molded after iconic sketch, graphic, watercolour and oil painting artists such as Lichtenstein, Basquiat, and Mondrian.

The collaborators used different techniques to create the 2D illiusion: Kutsah used makeup techniques to make the models' faces look flat, while Khokhlov enhanced the features by choosing specific angles to shoot the photos and Ershova assisted in retouching and post-production.

The power of makeup has been a hot subject recently; a Reddit user posted a photo of her leg with "robot" parts and a documentary used makeup to transform a black family into white people. (And don't even get us started on all that amazing Halloween makeup we saw in 2013.)

What do you think of the photos? Let us know in the comments below.

Burberry In Danger Of Losing Rights To Signature Plaid

It looks as though Burberry might lose their exclusive rights to their signature red, black and tan check.

The British luxury fashion house has appealed a decision made by Chinese authorities that would allow other companies to lawfully use their iconic check pattern on leather goods.

According to The Guardian, the verdict came down because Burberry has not made enough use of the Haymarket Check in China for three years.

WWD reported that back in August 2012, the Trademark Office received a complaint which challenged Burberry's right to the check for leather goods in China. The complaint was supposedly brought about by a division of the Lubida factory, an organization which Burberry had previously sued for creating counterfeit bags. Hmm, something smells a little fishy.

Fortunately, Burberry can rest easy for the moment. Until a decision is reached on the appeal, they still have sole rights to their tartan pattern. But if the court's ruling doesn't go in their favor, what will it mean for the company who has built an empire around their well-known pattern? Do you think there will be a new trademark in Burberry's future?

The pattern in question:

Kate Middleton Glams Up For A Night Without Prince William

Kate Middleton was the picture of elegance as she stepped out to attend a charity dinner in London today.

The Duchess looked as glamorous as ever in a knee-length black dress by Temperley London and a pair of Jimmy Choo suede pumps. Her small red clutch added a little panache to her outfit, but it was her big smile that made her the center of attention.

Unfortunately, neither Prince William nor baby George were there to see Kate as the guest of honor at SportsAid's annual ball celebrating the next generation of British athletes. Though we're dying to see more photos of the new prince, we'll take a royal sighting in any way it comes.

Holiday Shopping Season Begins On Thanksgiving

By Dhanya Skariachan and Lisa Baertlein
Nov 28 (Reuters) - Some early U.S. shoppers headed to stores on Thanksgiving Day in search of discounted holiday gifts on a day long reserved for American families to bond over turkey and football.
Kmart, Old Navy and Lord & Taylor were some of the stores that opened their doors on Thursday morning, as each company did last year. Macy's Inc and a slew of other stores are opening later on Thanksgiving for the first time ever in a bare-knuckle brawl for a bigger slice of holiday sales.
With six fewer shopping days this year than in 2012, retailers who reap nearly half of annual profits during the winter holiday season are nibbling away at the Thanksgiving holiday. But early visits to the stores by Reuters showed sparse crowds - a sign that not all U.S. shoppers are keen to open their wallets so quickly.
A Walmart store in Woodbridge, New Jersey, was virtually empty at 2:30 p.m., with store associates outnumbering shoppers.
The National Retail Federation expects up to 140 million shoppers to hit U.S. stores over the Thanksgiving weekend, slightly more than the 139 million who turned out last year.
But many forecasters expect overall sales growth to be tepid in a season plagued by shaky consumer confidence and given that there are few fashion must-haves.
Many consumers were also shopping online on Thursday. A report by IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark at 3 p.m. Eastern Time showed overall Thanksgiving online sales up 9.4 percent in 2013 over the same period last year.
"Thanksgiving is the fastest growing day for e-commerce during the holiday season," said Andrew Lipsman, comScore's vice president of marketing and insights. "There is a broader cultural norm where people feel it's OK to shop on Thanksgiving."
Nilka Gomez, 38, a stay-at-home mom who lives in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York, decided to cut back on spending this season to about $500 from $2,000 last year after losing her job.
"There will be no electronics this year," said Gomez, adding that she also plans to visit a Wal-Mart store on Thanksgiving.
Some say retailers' fortunes depend a lot more on wealthier shoppers who have benefited from rising share and home prices this year.
"There are two sides to the story. If you look at households with over $100,000 of income, those folks are going to spend twice as much as people of incomes under $100,000," said FTI Consulting's Steve Coulombe.
Harshad Shah, a 70-year-old real estate investor based in New York, is one of them.
"We are more upbeat this year," said Shah, while shopping at Lord & Taylor in Manhattan with his granddaughter Eva Luskey on Thursday. "There is a general sense that the economy is better. You see the stock market is doing better. Hopefully your stock portfolio is making a few more bucks."

EARLIER OPENINGS, HOLIDAY PAY
With "Black Friday" deals being offered before Thanksgiving tables were even set on Thursday, some were criticizing the retail industry's approach. Critics circulated online petitions, and a handful of franchise owners said they had defied corporate orders by keeping their stores closed.
Target Corp, Best Buy Co Inc and Toys R Us are opening earlier on Thursday than they did last year. Many Wal-Mart Stores Inc U.S. locations will be open all day, with Thanksgiving specials offered beginning at 6 p.m.
Department store chains Kohl's Corp, J.C. Penney Co Inc, Macy's all announced earlier this year they would open on Thanksgiving Day for the first time ever.
"The ones that are opening earlier are going to get more sales, but in the end, I don't think the overall pie gets any bigger. It's just a share gain," said Brian Yarbrough, a retail analyst with Edward Jones.
He also estimates that overall sales for November and December will be up 2.8 percent. That is more conservative than the 3.9 percent jump forecast by the National Retail Federation. The profit on those extra sales will depend on whether the eye-catching doorbuster sale prices are margin-squeezing loss leaders, analysts said.
At Macy's flagship store in New York City, five hundred employees will be working on Thanksgiving Day. The store, one of the Big Apple's most visited tourist sites, will be open for 26 straight hours, starting on Thursday at 8 p.m. EST.
A worker at Kmart in Manhattan said she had volunteered to work in order to earn extra money. Kmart workers are getting time and a half for the hours they week on Thanksgiving, Sears spokesman Howard Riefs said.
Black Friday is still is predicted by ShopperTrak to be this year's biggest day of the season for sales and traffic.

Walmart's Black Friday Going About As Badly As You'd Expect

The above video was taken at a Walmart in Johnson City, Tenn., according to Instagram user jcooper770. Such instances weren't limited to a single Walmart store, according to various Internet users:

Walmart spokesperson Brooke Buchanan told The Huffington Post such incidents don't accurately depict what she describes as a successful Black Friday for the retailer.

"We've got great feedback from customers and associates across the country," Buchanan told The Huffington Post. "A few tweets aren't representative of what's actually happening at 4,600 stores."

Holiday Shopping Season Kicks Off Early Despite Protests

Black Thursday officially took over.

The holiday shopping season kicked off much earlier this year, as at least a dozen national retail chains from Macy's to Gap to Target opened their stores on Thanksgiving Day. The holiday openings came despite planned protests from workers' rights groups that are opposed to employees working on the holiday instead of spending the day with family. The holiday openings are a break with tradition. The day after Thanksgiving, called Black Friday, for a decade had been considered the official start to the holiday buying season. It's also typically the biggest shopping day of the year.

But in the past few years, retailers have pushed opening times into Thanksgiving night. They've also pushed up discounting that used to be reserved for Black Friday into early November, which has led retail experts to question whether the Thanksgiving openings will steal some of Black Friday's thunder.

Overall, The National Retail Federation expects retail sales to be up 3.9 percent to $602.1 billion during the last two months of the year. That's higher than last year's 3.5 percent growth, but below the 6 percent pace seen before the recession.

Analysts expect sales to be generated at the expense of profits as retailers will likely have to do more discounting to get people into stores.

Here's how the start of the holiday shopping season is playing out:

— Thursday, 8 p.m.: Crowds of cheering shoppers pushed through the doors at the flagship Macy's Herald Square in New York City when it opened.

About 15,000 shoppers were at Macy's right before the doors opened, estimated Terry Lundgren, CEO, president and chairman of the department store chain. Last year, the store had 11,000 people right before the midnight opening.

Lundgren, who was at the entrance, told The Associated Press that the retailer knew it had to open when it found out other competitors were planning to open on Thanksgiving night. He also said it received positive feedback from its employees. "We're a competitive group," he said. "It's very clear they (the shoppers) want to be here at 8 p.m."

The store was featuring 375 doorbusters, up from last year's 200. Some of the deals included $79.99 jackets originally priced from $195 to $250, and cashmere sweaters for $39, marked down from 129.

Shelby Wheatley, 17, was with her mother, her mother's friend and her best friend, who all traveled from Orlando, Fla. Wheatley was looking for a prom dress and wanted to buy it in New York.

"I did Black Friday-but never Thursday--and never in New York," she said.

As for Thanksgiving, the group celebrated early with family last week.

"We just had dinner at TJI Fridays," she added.

— Anne D'Innocenzio, Retail Writer, New York

—Thursday, just before 8 p.m.: At Macy's in the Manhattan borough of New York City, bargain shoppers were grabbing discounted coats, perfume and handbags. It was mayhem in the shoe department with shoppers pushing and shoving each other to grab boxes of cold weather boots, discounted by 50 percent, that were stacked high on tables. One item catching people's attention: Bearpaw boots that resembled Uggs. They were priced at $34.

"This is my first Black Friday, and I don't particularly like it," said Tammy Oliver, 45, who had a box of Bearpaw boots under her arm, a gift for herself. "But I did get some good deals."

Denise Anderson, 49, along with her husband and 16-year-old daughter, were visiting Manhattan from Fayetteville, Ark. They arrived in Manhattan on Saturday and had spent $3,000 to $4,000 on themselves. She has done Black Friday shopping back at home but wanted to do it in New York.

"We're people watching," she said. "We wanted to see the craziness."

— Anne D'Innocenzio, Retail Writer, New York

— Thursday, 6 p.m.: An hour after its 6 p.m. opening, Best Buy at Union Square in New York City was bustling, with big TVs, Kindle e-book readers and laptops being popular purchases. Buying a TV on sale seemed to be most people's priority.

"My friend is chewing me out right now for not being there," said Rodney Bernard, 39, a writer in the Bronx. Instead of being at his friends Thanksgiving celebration he was at Best But. "But I really needed a TV."

He saw a deal in the paper for an insignia 39 inch TV for $169, but ended up buying a more expensive 4 0inch Samsung TV after a store salesman said he could get $20 off if he applied for a Best Buy credit card. He got the TV for $399 and it was originally $700 or $800.

Meanwhile, his friend doesn't approve of shopping on Thanksgiving. "He's upset with myself right now. He feels offended and is like don't even come by."

Bernard agrees but thinks it's OK to shop if you really need something.

Fortunately he says, his parents and immediate family are celebrating Thanksgiving on the 30th because several people had to work today.

"It's not like I lost something, I'll be celebrating."

— Mae Anderson, Retail Writer, New York

— Thursday, at 4:30 p.m.: At Best Buy in New York City, 70 people are in line before the 6 p.m. opening. A popular deal was the Microsoft Windows Surface tablet on sale at $199 from $350.

Jamal Afridi, 35, a truck driver from Utah but living temporarily in New York, was in line to buy a 39-inch TV for $160 from $299. He tried to buy it online but it was sold out.

"I checked over the last two days, I wouldn't have come out otherwise," he said. He was also interested in the Surface tablet deal, though. "This was the best deal if the year," he said.

He doesn't mind earlier hours on Thanksgiving. "I don't have to get up early in the morning," he said. "Who cares it's just another day, I'll eat later."

— Mae Anderson, Retail Writer, New York

—Thursday, 5:41 p.m.: A Kmart store in the Manhattan borough of New York City was packed with people shopping for clothing and holiday decor items. The discounter, whose parent is Sears Holdings Corp., opened at 6 a.m. and planned to stay open for 41 hours straight. Clothing was marked down from 30 percent to 50 percent.

Adriana Tavaraz, 51, from the Bronx, who had just finished work at a travel agency at around 4 p.m., spent $105 on ornaments, Santa hats and other holiday decor for herself and her family at Kmart. She saved about 50 percent. But Tavarez said her holiday budget was tight because she was grappling with higher costs like food and monthly rent, which rose $100 to $1,700 this year.

"I struggle a lot," said Tavaraz, who started saving for holiday presents in June and planned to spend a total of $200 for holiday presents. "Nowadays, you have to think about what you spend. You have to think about tomorrow."

As for celebrating Thanksgiving, she planned to have her family over for dinner at 8 p.m.

"Everything is ready," she said.

—Anne D'Innocenzio, Retail Writer, New York

— Thursday afternoon: Pizza Hut has offered to rehire the manager of a northern Indiana restaurant who was fired over his refusal to open up on Thanksgiving Day.

Tony Rohr said he has worked at the Elkhart restaurant since starting as a cook more than 10 years but was told to write a letter of resignation after his refusal. He said he declined in a meeting with his boss and instead wrote a letter explaining that he believed the company should care more about its employees.

"I said, 'Why can't we be the company that stands up and says we care about our employees and they can have the day off?'" Rohr told WSBT-TV (http://bit.ly/1bZovDT ) of South Bend, Ind.

Rohr said he was thinking about the other workers at the restaurant.

"Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only two days that they're closed in the whole year, and they're the only two days that those people are guaranteed to have off and spend it with their families," he said.

Plano, Texas-based Pizza Hut issued a statement Wednesday saying it respects an employee's right to not work on the holiday and that the store owner has agreed to reinstate Rohr.

My Oddest Aha! Jobs in Fashion

Click here to watch the TEDTalk that inspired this post.

I'm listening to Mike Rowe talk about his Aha! moment, castrating a lamb in Craig, Colo., a few hours north of my current Colorado foothills hometown, which some folks call, "The Brooklyn of Boulder."

I cannot say I've "been there, done that" on the livestock spaying front the way Rowe has.

But I relate to his eyes-wide moment of wonder as he approaches the task.

"How did I get here?" Rowe wonders. I relate to that, too.

My mind flashes back from the little lambs on that Craig, Colo. pasture to a pile of Dalmatian-print polyester on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, to a table of live doves at a Reagan-era fundraiser. We're in the field of fashion now, as opposed to animal husbandry.

But the leap isn't as far -- or as tame -- as you might think.

With thanks to Mike Rowe for the memories, here are two of my favorite Aha! moments in the NYC fashion biz. They're not as overtly ballsy as his lamb job, and I don't include them on my LinkedIn profile, because who would hire me to do them again?

But these tasks scared me senseless and/or made my heart sing. And isn't that what the best jobs are about?

"Counting the Carnet for Jean-Paul Gaultier"

The Task:
Count a hundred dozen-ish Dalmation print fake fur hats, gloves and accessories imported by French fashion maverick Gaultier for his first U.S. fashion show, to be held in a Big Apple Circus tent in Battery Park City.

My Workspace:
Seated cross-legged on the floor of Bergdorf Goodman's atrium, seven stories above Manhattan's bustling Fifth Avenue.

How I Got This Job:
My new boss called her last version of me and asked, "Do you know anyone crazy enough to do this?"

The Aha! Moment:
The executives see my job as dirty work, the kind of task that Cinderella's stepsisters might event. But counting the carnet is Zen-tastic to me. I'm sitting in a quiet, sun-filled space, connecting with objects of pure design genius.

Tomorrow, taking on another job no one wants, I'll ride shotgun in the truck carrying the collection downtown to the circus tent. The city will stretch before me. The oddly gorgeous objects described in the carnet -- properly counted -- will follow behind me.

Color me one lucky faux fur trucker.

"Supermodel Management"

The Task:
Stop six supermodels from going AWOL from a fashion show fundraiser with clothes by Italian fashion house Jenny, attended by President Ronald Reagan and a host of mid-1980s A-Listers.

My Workspace:
An unheated hallway in the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in DC.

How I Got This Job:
My Uncle Sidney's neighbors' friend's daughter needs an Italian-speaking American gal Friday for an event she's producing over Presidents' Day Weekend, which will feature live Italian doves on each table, and a six-pack of supermodels on the runway.

I'm studying Italian at college in Philly, so I get the job.

I won't be paid for this gig in money, I'm told. But I will get some real-world experience.

The Truth:
The models -- faces I know from the covers of Vogue, and Elle and W and Bazaar -- are threatening to fly back to New York unless I take them some place warm to wait out the hour before show.

The armed guard at the ballroom says civilians who leave a presidential event will not be readmitted.

What do I do?

I'll have to decide this on my own.

My boss is sneaking Julio Iglesias through the kitchen to avoid the paparazzi. And her boss is drinking Champagne with the Princess of Savoy. Plus, did I mention, this is 1984: there are no cell phones?

As we walk back to the ballroom, I'm sure I'm going to be arrested by the CIA. Or (even scarier) yelled at by the booking agent for Ford Models! How will that look when I apply to law school? -- Sharon Glassman

The models want cheeseburgers. They want to watch the Winter Olympics on TV.

I can make that happen, I think. I'm 19 years old. I know zip about team management. But I know a lot about cheeseburgers.

I escort the models back to my hotel room. We order room service. They watch Brian Boitano skate.

It's like a slumber party with girls in $1,000 dresses.

The Aha! Moment:
Time to lead the models backstage. But how? As we walk back to the ballroom, I'm sure I'm going to be arrested by the CIA. Or (even scarier) yelled at by the booking agent for Ford Models! How will that look when I apply to law school?

But when we get to the Scary Guard, he just nods and waves us backstage.

Why? you ask. I don't know.

Was I terrified? You betcha.

The Bonus:
But scary jobs can lead to great rewards.

Earlier that day, I delivered a Jenny dress to Mrs. Grant's room. Her husband answered the door in a dressing gown, holding a handsome hand of cards.

I was speechless.

He said, "Thank you."

And maybe this is the moral of my "how did I get here?" odd-job story:

Six supermodels may trump an armed guard. But no one will ever trump my memory of Cary Grant.

The 15 Grossest Beauty Habits People Do In Public

$
0
0
We all have gross, embarrassing beauty habits, and that's OK.

It's one thing to do these things in the privacy of your own home, but it's quite another to subject onlookers to your unsavory, borderline obsessive nail grooming habits or your method of dry skin removal. And we have had enough. Here are the most offensive, stomach-churning beauty habits we've witnessed people do in public... that need to end now.

#15: Biting at corner of dry lips
For the love of god, get yourself some lip balm.

#14: Allowing stray hairs to fall on people when combing
It's gross enough peeling your own hairs off your sweater -- nobody wants to touch another person's dirty follicles.

#13: Picking off crusty part of mascara
Yet another reason to make sure you wash off your makeup from the night before.

#12: Picking at flakey skin
And you thought exfoliating wasn't important...

#11: Removing eye boogers
We get that sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do, but discretion is key.

#10: Picking at cuticles
Just. Leave. Them. Alone.

#9: Picking earring crust
If you're not responsible enough to remove this residue before you leave the house, then perhaps you're not ready for earrings.

#8: Filing nails
Seriously, can't it wait?

#7: Picking ear wax
Q-tips were invented for a reason.

#6: Picking at face scabs
Do you want to scar and lose friends?

#5: Ripping nails
There is no hangnail that must be removed so urgently that you can't wait for clippers.

#4: Scraping tartar off teeth
If you're brushing on the reg, this shouldn't be a problem.

#3: Picking ingrown hairs on legs
No. Just no.

#2: Picking toenails
A good rule to live by? Never touch your feet in public.

#1: Pimple popping
Yuck.

And makeup can be just as horrifying:

Victoria Beckham Guest-Edits Vogue Paris, Wisely Puts Her Husband On The Cover (PHOTOS)

Having proven herself as a top-notch fashion designer as well as an engaging Twitter personality (yeah, we couldn't believe it either), Victoria Beckham has been given the honor of guest editing the December/January issue of Vogue Paris.

The job, one she carried out for the September 2012 issue of Glamour, entails overseeing plenty of the fashion spreads and articles in the issue, meaning you can expect lots of vintage Posh Spice photos and a revealing, personal article about Victoria's marriage and family.

But the most important move Vic made as guest-editor was to put her hubby on the cover. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin photographed the famous couple looking... well, drop-dead gorgeous. And in love. With David's swooping hair and perfect day-old stubble, plus Victoria's come-hither eyes, it's a super swoon-worthy shoot that has us a little overcome.

Excuse us while we go stare at these photos a little while longer.

White Party Dresses: Lace, Short, Sexy Ideas For Women (PHOTOS)

White is one of the most wearable trends during the holidays and was seen on almost every runway show during winter 2013/2014 previews.

So we’re not surprised that we’re seeing a slew of celebrities making a statement wearing head-to-toe white party dresses and we'll fight anyone who tells you white isn’t flattering. The trick to rocking the hot look is all in the cut, silhouette and fabric. Just ask curvy mama Kim Kardashian who favours a white-on-white look. (Black isn't the only colour that can makes you look slimmer!)

With the holiday season approaching, you’ll be seeing a lot of women trying out this trend in various fabrics, shades and shapes for Christmas parties and gatherings. Give white a chance with inspiration from Hollywood starlets who aren’t afraid of being bold in blanche!

Story continues below the slideshow:

White Lace Dress

There’s nothing more feminine or festive than white lace. Actresses Jennifer Lopez, Isla Fisher and Selena Gomez all wore variations of white lace and looked nothing short of spectacular. The trick to a great white lace frock lies in the colour: If it's ivory, then it's a wedding dress, but if it's a warmer white, then it's perfect for a Christmas fête.

White Sweater Dress

Here’s where fashion meets function in perfect harmony. Who doesn’t want to be comfortable and stylish all at once? The white sweater dress is a classy and cozy option you could wear to a less formal function. Actress Ashley Tisdale did a great job dressing down her cream sweater dress with equestrian boots but it could easily become an evening ensemble with a pair of heels and some bling. Kate Hudson is an expert at dressing up the sweater dress and wore a memorable Jenny Packham cable knit frock paired with matching white heels and a brown clutch to a movie premiere.

Off White a.k.a. Cream

If you’re hesitant to wear stark white, give cream a try first. It’s a much easier shade to pull off for everyday wear. Supermodel Miranda Kerr looks great in everything but if you’re curious to see her take on the cream dress, she rocked a form fitting cream sheath accented with a brown belt and nude pumps.

White Ball Gown

There’s nothing more showstopping than a white floor length gown. (They’re not just for weddings anymore, friends!) If you have a formal holiday function approaching, consider something like actress Kate Mara’s white Prada gown with large bow detailing on the front, paired with a funky coloured clutch for a little unexpected pop! When choosing a floor-sweeping dress, just make sure that the key is still subtlety. Think more SAG Awards and less Oscars prom dresses.

White Tuxedo Dress

Anything tuxedo-inspired will turn heads, especially worn in dress form. A white tuxedo dress paired with tights and heels as per Blake Lively is as sexy-chic as you can get. We’re also quite enamored with model Chrissy Teigen’s take on the menswear-inspired look which put the sexy in the suit thanks to the tailoring which made it look like she were wearing just a shirt, and nothing underneath.

White Blouse and Skirt Combo

This look requires selecting two items so you’ll have to work a little harder but the effect is well worth it. Julianne Hough paired a white skirt with a long sleeve white blouse and a colourful brooch and she looked polished and fabulous.

White Sparkles

If you want to shine, literally, we think that’s a great idea! Kirsten Dunst showed us how white and sparkly is done in an iridescent white embroidered gown by Dolce and Gabbana at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. But fear not: You aren't in danger of looking like a Christmas tree ornament if you choose a matte sequin dress that still has flash but won't blind your friends and/or co-workers.

White Peplum

A little white peplum dress is the perfect holiday party attire not only because they (still) stand out from the rest of the evening frocks but they are also super flattering. Take a cue from Angelina Jolie who looked chic in a strapless peplum dress by Ralph and Russo which she paired with a metallic belt. Hot!

White Feathers

If you're thinking of rocking full-on feathers, don’t be afraid to be confused for the Swan Princess because frankly, she was a babe and, obviously, a princess (therefore she wins at life). Try achieving this sassy but regal look by channeling this Marchesa number worn by Camilla Belle and Katy Perry. The trick is to use the feathers as accents rather than cover yourself in them or else you will be leaving a feather trail wherever you go.

White Full Skirt

If you’re more body conscious, you’ll feel completely comfortable and likely able to eat more hors d'oeuvres wearing a white dress with a full skirt. Taylor Swift read our minds when she wore a ladylike white lace dress with a full skirt to the 2013 Grammy nominations concert.

Natural beauty expert Katey Denno stopped by our offices to show us how to mix up an exfoliating, hydrating face mask made up of yogurt, honey and grapes... and that's it! Between the natural moisturizing effects of yogurt, the acidity of grapes and the antibacterial properties of honey, Denno's concoction might just convince you to trade in your drugstore beauty mask for a grocery store-bought regimen.

Watch the video above to see Denno demonstrate this easy, natural face mask.

Gisele Bundchen's PJs Puts Our Dowdy PJs To Shame (PHOTO)

We're certainly aware that we're not supermodels. This was made even more apparent by Gisele Bundchen when she posed for the December 2013 cover of Vogue Brasil showing off PJs that put our frumpy sweats to shame.

The Giampaolo Sgura-lensed shoot features the blonde stunner in flannel, lace, gold jewelry and quite possibly the most enviable bedhead ever. "I think the theme of this photo shoot is really interesting, because it shows the glamorous side and the also the relaxed one," Bundchen said. "A woman can look powerful in a party, but when she arrives at home all she wants is to feel comfortable."

Yah, we think it's safe to say that most people equate "comfortable" with "baggy t-shirts and college sweatpants." But it's cool, Gisele, we'll give you a free pass this time.

Guest of Honour Victoria Beckham Takes the Helm at Vogue Paris for the December Issue

With two warm, personal shots from photographers Inez & Vinoodh covering the issue and a host of family photos inside, this December's Vogue Paris transports readers straight into the world of Victoria Beckham.

2013-11-29-victoria_beckham_invit__e_d_honneur_du_num__ro_de_no__l_d__cembre_2013__janvier_2014_de_vogue_paris_903771840_north_880x.jpg

"We entrusted the editor's chair for this issue to a woman who revealed herself to be the absolute opposite of her public image while we were working together. Spontaneous and full of humor, she's modest, with a healthy dose of ambition. And like all those who are truly passionate about what they do, Victoria is a perfectionist," writes Emmanuelle Alt, editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris in her December/January 2014 editorial.

While Beckham has become a fashion superstar on the New York scene, she's built a global business empire, never failing to build on her success wherever life has taken her. In London she picked up 2011's Designer Brand of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards, in Los Angeles she made a home for herself and her family, and, in Paris she didn't skip a beat, following husband David Beckham as he joined football team Paris Saint Germain. Indeed David Beckham, the man with whom Victoria has shared her life for the past 14 years, was at the designer's side throughout her time at Vogue Paris, a fact that shines through on the pages of the issue and in Inez & Vinoodh's tender shots of the couple. Later in the issue, writer Marie Darrieussecq sits down with Beckham to discover what makes the woman behind all those stunning evening gowns and impeccably cut tuxedo suits tick. And, in an extended holiday invitation to Vogue Paris readers, Victoria Beckham shares Christmas memories, family photos, personal anecdotes and even some of her four children's drawings.

So, what does a typical day look like for the designer? Vogue Paris reveals all, stepping backstage at Beckham's Spring/Summer 2014 show and following in the star's famously high-heeled footsteps to take in her favorite Paris hotspots. Come tea time, readers join Beckham and friends Valentino Garavani, Anish Kapoor and Marc Jacobs, the little bird who once advised Beckham to "be true to yourself and never scrimp on style," as they reminisce and talk fashion. And, to look at the pages of the issue which sparkle with holiday inspiration, luxury gift ideas and a little winter warmth courtesy of an exclusive look at La Madrague - Brigitte Bardot's house on the French Riviera, a corner of the country beloved by Bardot and Beckham alike - Victoria has taken Jacobs' words to heart.

Before I get stuck in to the annual joy of Christmas Gift Guides, here's a little rundown of the latest kicks tickling my fancy this month.

Vans x Liberty
Who knew there were so many cool things you could do with Liberty print? And how many different designs there are?! This collaboration collection with action sport and street wear brand, Vans, is super cute. Snap it up now to wear in the summer too as some of the more delicate florals and peacock prints used, particularly in the lower cut Authentic plimsoll styles, are too pretty to be hidden by trouser legs during the cold snap. The wonderfully Christmassy, royal blue and Ianthe print Sk8-Hi Reissue (pictured top) and Ditsy print pink Sk8-Hi Slim hi-tops (pictured bottom) are my absolute favs.
Vans x Liberty shoe prices start at £55 and are available from vans.com/liberty and in store at Liberty

Nike Air Max 90 SneakerBoots
Hot on the heels of Nike's own Liberty collab, comes this drop of Air Max 90 SneakerBoots which rework the quintessential street style silhouette into an innovative, higher-height, winter-resistant, cold weather shoe. As a bonus, the added ankle height also means there's less chance of anyone being able to tell if your socks don't match when you sit down. Winner.

Adidas Torsion Integral
This iconic 90s running shoe gets a tonal update in time for its new release via adidas Originals. I like how they've stayed true to the original design so this classic, collectors-fav still has a retro appeal despite the modern rework.
Adidas Torsion Integral, £90, for stockist information, call 0870 240 420

2013-11-26-SarahMcGivenHuffingtonPostSauconyTrainersSneakers.jpg

Saucony Originals
I am obsessed with Saucony Originals sneakers right now, particularly the Shadow Originals designs. I was looking for the perfect grey suede shoe and found that they do so many of them, I am still deciding which ones to get. I love the modern, graphic, almost cartoon-y, styling, muddled with a hint of old school, vintage running shoes, as well as the fantastic colour ways that feel so fresh.
Check out their full range of men's and women's trainers which are priced around the £60-70 mark, at www.saucony.com

Sasha Obama's Shoe Game Is So Great, We Don't Know How It Took Us This Long To Notice

$

Her mother might get most of the fashion attention, but we feel obligated to point out something we've only recently noticed: Sasha Obama has some serious shoe game.

Today, the Obama family (sans the president) welcomed the White House Christmas tree on Friday morning wearing cold-weather gear: dark jackets, dark pants and cozy sweaters. But Sasha stood out for her rather shiny shoe choice, a pair of silver metallic oxford lace-ups with black accents.

And that's just the tip of her shoe wardrobe iceberg. When it comes to footwear, Sasha is the flashiest of the Obama family, a lover of high-top sneakers and colorful flats. She's even got several pairs of Converse in her closet like her mama and some Nike Dunks.

Behold the First Daughter's impressive shoe game. We're in awe.
