Another Magazine Commits Blackface, Stop The Madness! (PHOTO)

For the ten millionth time: STOP PAINTING WHITE PEOPLE BLACK!

We were hoping we wouldn't see another instance of Blackface in 2013 -- or the rest of all eternity, for that matter -- but thanks to Metal magazine that sadly isn't the case.

SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTO

In this latest example of racially insensitive debauchery, the Barcelona-based publication painted male model Abel Van Oeveren's face entirely black for it's "Transmission" feature in the Fall/Winter 2013 issue. The editorial, which was shot by Johnny Dufort and styled by John Colver, gives no indication as to why they opted for the paint job -- although there is never a valid excuse for the offensive act.

Nevertheless, the fashion industry (and beyond) can't seem to resist bronzing, painting and dipping themselves in a darker hue.

In 2013 alone we saw Vogue Netherlands and Numéro magazine produce Blackface features. And we definitely can't forget fashion designer Allesandro Dell’Acqua and Elle France's beauty editor, Jeanne Deroo, dressing up in minstrel-inspired ensembles.

Just make it STOP!

Avril Lavigne Looks Lovely Without Heavy Makeup (PHOTO)

"What would Avril Lavigne look like without that dark, streaky makeup?" we've often wondered, lying awake at night.

Now we no longer need to wonder. The punky singer submitted herself to a "makeunder" for Allure, stripping off the signature eyeliner and mascara for the magazine's January 2014 issue.

Although the "Complicated" singer, now 29, admits that she wears black eyeliner literally every day -- "I do it when I'm just at home" -- we think she so looks lovely without dark-rimmed eyes. But with this gorgeous new photo by Sebastian Kim, we're reminded that it is actually possible to take off your heavy makeup -- even if you're the kind of girl who feels naked without it.

Mila Kunis And Ashton Kutcher Spotted At Iowa-Penn State Wrestling Match

It looks like Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis might be spending the holidays in Iowa again this year.

On Saturday (Dec. 21), the couple was spotted watching a wrestling match between Kutcher's alma mater, University of Iowa, and Penn State, while surprised fans snapped photos of the two:

Kutcher and Kunis spent the holidays last year in Kutcher's hometown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and it looks like they might spend Christmas with Kutcher's family again.

With Kutcher's divorce from Demi Moore finally finalized, the actor has been more open about his relationship with Kunis. The former "That '70s Show" co-stars began dating in April 2012, and there have long been rumors the two are ready to make things more official in the new year.

Only Beyonce Could Rush-Order A Custom $1,325 Necklace

When Beyoncé dropped her mega-album on Dec. 13, she caught everyone off-guard -- almost everyone. In the know were all the videographers, choreographers, set designers and even fashion stylists who were involved in creating the 17 videos, and they all swore not to tell.

Among the select few were Robin Basile and John Pape, the designers of Basile and Pape Bespoke Jewelry, who were called upon to create custom pieces for the videos. And they had to do it quickly.

Stylist Lysa Cooper, who's worked with Beyoncé as well as Basile and Pape over the years, contacted the design duo on Sept. 18 via her assistant, "'warning' us that it was time to get the ball rolling on some custom pieces for Beyoncé's new album videos," Basile told HuffPost Style.

They discussed a few ideas, including a "YONCE" necklace, and Lysa forwarded her specifications from video director Hype Williams and his team. Then came the promise: "Of course I swore on the Bible that I would NEVER tell a soul about the project/email," Basile said.

"Then the assistant told me the video shoot would be in Texas on Sept. 25," said Basile. That meant four days to create three custom jewelry items and have them shipped to Texas. After they arrived safely... Basile and Pape waited. And waited. And waited. "I was on edge from the first email we received from Beyoncé's team to the day her visual album came out [on] Dec. 13, 2013," said Basile. The pieces ended up in the videos for "Blow and "No Angel."

Now that the secret's out, Basile and Pape can publicize the three pieces on their website -- and sell them. The 24k gold Disco Nameplate Necklace that they made in the shape "Yonce" can be ordered to say any name for $1,325 with cubic zirconias or for $2,325 with diamonds.

But you can't get one that says "Yonce." That, Robin told us, was a one-time deal for Beyoncé only.

She's basically royalty:

Traveling Over the Holidays? Your In-Flight Skincare Routine

By Cindy Pearlman KnowMore's Hollywood Insider

If you're hopping on a plane to get to your holiday destination, you'll surely want to step off that flight looking glowing and glamorous to greet friends and relatives. As a little gift to you, KnowMore.tv asked Joanna Vargas, celebrity skin care guru to stars like Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz, for her best in-flight skin saving secrets.

Is there something you can do before a flight to help your skin?

JV: "I like to prepare well in advance for any vacation or business trip because I can get stressed if I leave everything for the last minute. And as we all know, stress makes a mess of your skin. So try to pack well in advance."

What can you do in the airport to help prep your face for flight?

JV: "Once I get past security, I buy myself a water. If I'm running late, I order one the moment I sit down. You can also have soda water or green tea. Avoid the V8 because it's loaded with sodium and will not help if you want to stay hydrated. Push the button and ask for seconds if you feel you need it. I do anything to stay hydrated."

Is there any skin care routine you can do quickly in flight?

JV: "I have two products, My Daily Serum and Rejuvenating Serum, that can be used during a flight to hydrate your skin. Once you land at the hotel, do a hydrating mask."

What should you pack to keep a good skin routine going while at the hotel or visiting friends? Please don't tell us to wash with that slimy bar soap on the sink!?

JV: "Your skincare routine is vital, so don't forget to pack the basics - a face wash, exfoliator, and a moisturizer."

What's the one thing that most people forget to pack?

JV: "Sunscreen. This is especially true if you're going to a beach or a sunny location."

Since you are what you eat, what can you eat on vacation or on a business trip to help your skin?

JV: "I like to eat a healthy meal. Lean proteins and vegetables work. This gives your body the building blocks to repair itself and the nourishment for great looking skin. If you have a juice bar, order a green juice to load up on antioxidants."

An Entrepreneur Is Born: Lindsay Tia

2013-12-23-lindsaytia.png

Look out, Vera Bradley. An entrepreneur was recently born and she's about to give you a run for your money. Having personally witnessed the phenomenon called Lindsay Tia, the fashionable handbag trend that has swept through Boston, and is now making its way to other states, I had to get inside the mind behind the passion; the woman that's creating a fashion movement with her totes, clutches, and purses.

If you have had the opportunity to browse around the trendiest Boston boutiques, then no doubt you have made your acquaintance with Lindsay Tia. Not her personally, since she is usually back at her home base designing and making bags, but there's a good chance you have met the high spirited, fashion friendly, Lindsay Tia via one of her designer totes or clutches. If you have, then no doubt it was love at first sight. These are not your ordinary bags. Once you lock eyes on one, it's hard to walk away. Like an animal lover at a dog pound, women can't stop ogling over each bag, often leaving the boutique with more than one.

As a business strategist for large and small brands alike, I've always enjoyed watching when a new business pops up in a marketplace, giving longtime established brands a run for their money. Having seen Lindsay Tia elbowing her way into the competitive handbag market with gusto has been akin to watching the iPhone and iPad market crop up out of nowhere in the last decade. It's fascinating to watch, and even more intriguing when you get into the mind behind the movement. Let me introduce you to 22-year-old Lindsay Tia.

Lindsay Tia is young, beautiful and totally focused on growing a world class brand in handbags. What's her secret? You are about to find out.

1. Be Unique:

This is the core of who Lindsay Tia is, and this philosophy trickles down to the handbags she designs. In 2011, Lindsay studied fashion abroad in London, getting schooling from greats, like shoe designer Jimmy Choo. Interestingly, it wasn't the schooling that changed the trajectory of Lindsay's life, but rather her experience of buying a gift for her mom while she was away. While touring Italy that year, Lindsay visited a boutique where she bought matching handbags for her and her mom. She wanted to buy herself and her mom a gift from this gorgeous province that would forever bring back special memories for Tia, of her time away. She handpicked two beautiful purses that would represent her fondness of her trip forever. Or so she thought.

Upon arriving back in the United States, Lindsay was crushed when she ran across the same purses she bought in the boutique in a hillside province in Italy, at a large retail clothing store like Marshalls. Her unique, "one-of-a-kind" gift had lost its magic, because anyone could buy the same handbag, and they could buy them right from any retail giant in the U.S. The magic of the two handbags she had purchased was forever gone, but Lindsay Tia the entrepreneur was born.

Recognizing a need for unique purses, clutches and totes, made from high-quality fabrics, and made by people, not machines, right in the United States, Lindsay went to work creating a plan. Now, less than two years later Lindsay Tia handbags have infiltrated many of the boutiques in metro-Boston, and have begun to garner attention in stores across the country. Lindsay Tia revels in her uniqueness. It is the core of her business model. It is why her business was born. She notes that we live in a day and age where virtually everything is mass produced and so the number one value proposition she offers is that her high quality, textured, handbags are unique. She personally shops for fabrics that are different and when she finds them, she doesn't buy enough to make hundreds or thousands of bags, but rather a handful of them so that the odds of someone running into a stranger with that same handbag are virtually non-existent.

2. Mentors:

When questioned about her passion for sewing and building a business, Lindsay pays tribute to her mentor, Karen Smith, from whom Lindsay learned how to sew. Lindsay began sewing with Karen when she was six-years-old, and from Karen, she learned how to express herself using fabric and thread. Lindsay is all personality, and even if you've never met her, it shines through in her bags. Lindsay's mentor also taught Lindsay that it is 100 percent possible to build a life and business around something you love. After all, Karen had done just that buy building a sewing school and educating others on the love of creating beauty at the sewing machine.

3. Delegation:

There are lots of creative people in the world that have great ideas and products, but never actually launch a business. So, how has Lindsay managed to do it? Delegation. There are many pieces of the daily business that she doesn't run. Her best friend Kayla runs the business side of things so that Lindsay can continue working on the part she loves, designing and making handbags. Kayla handles the marketing, website and brand management. Together, Lindsay and Kayla meet with clients and potential ones to talk about their value. Lindsay recognizes already that amazing businesses are not built alone, but rather with and by invaluable team members who become the army of advocates who are as committed to building the brand as you are. While many business owners would fret that hiring a best friend could cause complications, Lindsay says that Kayla is the best one for the job. Kayla knows Lindsay enough to point out when she's focusing on the non-essential parts of the business, rather than doing what she's doing best, making world class bags.

4. Disappointments:

From the outside looking in, it seems that Lindsay is doing everything right. She prospects daily for new business, while also remaining focused on getting bags out every day. I asked her if she's had any disappointments, to which she said that there have been many. She said that she has a story to tell the world with her bags, and it's disappointing when there are days when nobody wants to hear it. She said she gets past these days in two ways. First, she revels in the fact that she has already built an amazing buying base of boutiques and end customers who love her bags, and so Lindsay knows that when a bag goes out into the world, it is creating a new opportunity for her story to be told. Secondly, Lindsay uses the difficult days to fuel her passion. When someone doesn't care about or want to hear the Lindsay Tia story, she works harder to tell it to the next person.

5. Future:

Lindsay Tia handbags are entering the marketplace now at a pace of a few hundred bags a year. Her goal in five years is that there will be millions of bags being launched into the hands of deserving buyers each year. Lindsay looks forward to the challenge of balancing her uniqueness in bag identity, with the ability to produce larger volumes. As well, Lindsay plans on eventually launching a line of bag bars, a place where women can get together and experience the fun, exhilaration and meaningfulness of designing and making their own bags. Lindsay says that as much as she loves coming up with new ideas and designs, there's nothing quite like allowing a woman to do it all on her own, and that's exactly where Lindsay is heading with her business.

Some say that the millennial generation is one that was born with a sense of entitlement. There's nothing to indicate that when you meet someone like Lindsay. In fact, if Lindsay Tia is an example of what the next generation is about to bestow upon us, then we are in for an exciting ride. She is passionate, driven and ambitious to say the least, and certainly an entrepreneur to keep your eye on because this girl has got reach!

How To Move Toward Your Desires

$

There is something I hear a lot from women, and I want to share it with you today.

It's often the thing that stops us cold from really going for our desires.

I was speaking to a beautiful woman recently about her desire to come to the Paris Experience.

She so desired to travel to Paris to walk the streets, see the sights and hear the sounds. She also desired to participate in the beauty of Paris on a deeper level. To experience a brand new piece of who she is as a woman.

I could feel her come alive as we spoke. I could feel the activation of the desire. When I asked her why she wouldn't do this, she told me something I hear a lot (this is something that I think you'll be able to relate to).

It's something that paralyzes us. It stops us from experiencing our truest desires.

It's the fear of what other people are going to think of us.

I can't even begin to explain to you how much this stops women cold from living their truth and their dreams.

"What am I going to tell my family? How am I going to explain it to my husband? What will people say when I tell them this is really calling me?"

We allow the idea of what people are going to think of us, from really going for it! I know, I've had those fears as I've been on my path.

So what do we do about it?

Instead of saying: "What are they going to think of me?" I want you to ask yourself: "What will I think of myself if I don't let myself do this?"

Then, ask yourself: "What will I think of myself if I DO?"

By asking yourself this question, you'll gain more clarity and receive permission to really move into the next level of your truth.

Leave a comment below. What would you think of yourself if you allowed yourself to step into your desire?

I look forward to assisting you in moving into the level of your desire.

Audrey Gelman On Terry Richardson: Lena Dunham And I 'Both Have Regrets'

$

0
Audrey Gelman, real-life best friend to Lena Dunham and ex-girlfriend of infamous fashion photographer Terry Richardson, has officially weighed in on the recent debate over whether female celebrities should vow not to work with men who are known to mistreat women.

On December 21st, Gelman, who is a political consultant and spokesperson for incoming Comptroller Scott Stringer, and the real-life inspiration for "Girls" character Marnie Michaels, took to Twitter to address the criticism Dunham had received for her 2013 V Magazine shoot with Richardson. In addition to working with some of today's biggest female stars -- Dunham and Beyoncé included -- the photographer has faced multiple accusations of sexual assault over the years. (Dunham responded to said criticisms on Twitter last week.)

Gelman's tweet was posted in full on Twitlonger. She wrote:
re: terry photos, @lenadunham tried to see the good i saw in someone & we both have regrets. the online discourse on these issues is vital and pushes us forward everyday. biased perhaps, but i see lena as a courageous champion of women, a critical voice who scrutinizes and challenges female representation in the media, and most of all, a wonderful and loyal friend. thank you @amandahess @michelledean @irin @annaholmes and others writers I respect for considering these issues with both sensitivity and courage. as for michelle malkin: http://bit.ly/1duUJ8u

Although Gelman and Richardson dated for over three years, she has generally been quiet about her relationship with the controversial photographer. But Dunham has been quite vocal about the influence Gelman's friendship has had on her. "Not only is Audrey my best friend, she’s a huge inspiration for my work," Dunham told The L Magazine in April 2012.

Though Twitter may not be the easiest forum to discuss the politics of boycotting alleged "creeps" in the entertainment industry -- after all, most comments on such matters require more than 140 characters -- we are happy these conversations are being had. And it's heartening to see women like Dunham and Gelman weighing in on the topic instead of staying silent.

The Rules Of Getting Dressed When You're Home Are Simple And Finite: Don't Do It

The rules for getting dressed when you're home for the holidays are, like the rules of haircare, simple and finite: Don't do it.

But if we had to expand on that a little, we'd say there are a few key guidelines to the winter break wardrobe that most of us would do well to heed. When you're home under your parents' roof, with no work to do...

As soon as you walk through the door, all restrictive "real world" clothing must come off.

Then the sweatpants come on...

... where they'll stay for the next week. No need to change them.

Or, instead of sweatpants, you could always just go straight for the pajamas.

Or, worse comes to worst: maternity pants.

(You're going to need the elastic waistband.)

There is no sweatshirt too old or embarrassing.

Take off your bra -- it's just unnecessary.

Hair should be left down.

Avoid wearing contact lenses -- there will be too many impromptu naps.

Don't wear anything you mind getting stained, because you'll be doing a LOT of this:

Just remember that when you go back into the real world, you've got to change. Otherwise, you face this.

If you actually decide you care... here are some nice options:

Ingrid Lederhaas-Okun, Ex-Tiffany Exec, Sentenced To Prison For Jewelry Thefts

$

0
NEW YORK (AP) — A former executive from Tiffany & Co. was sentenced to one year and one day in prison Monday for stealing more than $1.2 million in jewelry from its famous Fifth Avenue location, a crime a judge called an inexplicable act of self-destruction by someone who didn't need the money.

Ingrid Lederhaas-Okun had pleaded guilty this year to one count of interstate transportation of stolen property. Her lawyer had asked for a sentence of six months while the government sought at least three years. "I'm very sorry for everything that's happened," a tearful Lederhaas-Okun told the judge before hearing the sentence in federal court in New York City. "I can't express my remorse enough."

U.S. District Judge Paul G. Gardephe rejected prosecutors' arguments that the 46-year-old defendant was motivated by greed, noting that she came from a privileged background, made $360,000 a year at Tiffany and lived in a $4 million house in upscale Darien, Conn. Her attorney claimed that she suffered from depression and cracked under the pressures of not being able to have children, getting passed over for a promotion at Tiffany and seeing her marriage crumble.

But Gardephe said it was impossible to know what set Lederhaas-Okun on a path of "self-destruction which could only have one outcome — disaster." He also said she deserved more than six months because of how long the thefts went on and the fact that she tried to resell some of the jewelry.

"This was not a crime of impulse," he said. "The defendant made many bad decisions over many years."

As vice president of product development, Lederhaas-Okun had authority to check out jewelry from Tiffany to provide to potential manufacturers to determine production costs. Authorities alleged that after she left Tiffany in February, the company discovered she had checked out 164 items that were never returned.

The items included numerous diamond bracelets in 18-carat gold, diamond drop and hoop earrings in platinum or 18-carat gold, diamond rings in platinum, rings with precious stones in 18-carat gold, and platinum and diamond pendants.

When confronted about the missing jewelry, Lederhaas-Okun claimed that she had left some of it behind at Tiffany and that some had been lost or damaged, according to a criminal complaint. But an investigation found that Lederhaas-Okun resold some of the goods to an unidentified international dealer for more than $1.3 million. Other items were found in her home.

Bank records showed that since January 2011, the dealer wrote 75 checks to her or her husband for amounts of up to $47,400, the complaint said. Investigators also recovered purchase forms signed by Lederhaas-Okun that said the items were her personal property.

Authorities alleged Lederhaas-Okun purposely checked out items valued at under $10,000 apiece to avoid detection. The company takes a daily inventory of all checked-out items worth more than $25,000.

Ashley Diana Morris, Guess Model's Wedding In The Bahamas (PHOTOS)

Ashley Diana Morris has had a fairy tale year.

The gorgeous Vancouverite who bears a strong resemblance to Anna Nicole Smith was named the face of Guess Lingerie and Bikini last January, rocketing her to instant fame in the fashion world.

But that wasn't quite the best part of the Pickering, Ont.-born model's 2013. No, the apex of her year was when she married West Vancouver dentist Geoffrey Gillespie in front of 80 people in the Bahamas on Nov. 9.

Check out some photos from Ashley Diana Morris's wedding by Ben Jamieson Photography. The story continues after the slideshow:

"I got the marry the man of my dreams," she told The Huffington Post B.C. "That is first and foremost the best thing that happened to me this year."

Morris and Gillespie met through the dentist's friend, Bryan Henry, who first encountered the future supermodel while she was working as a bartender at Toronto's Harbour 60 Steakhouse in 2010. She was studying sports journalism at Centennial College at the time.

Henry soon sent Gillespie a text: "I just met your future wife. You can thank me later."

The two exchanged e-mails and learned that they had a lot in common. Gillespie flew out to Toronto and Morris picked him up at the airport. They did long distance for about six months before she moved to Vancouver.

He proposed two years later, at the very place where they met in person.

Morris and Gillespie shared the task of planning the wedding. Wanting to avoid the Vancouver rain, they nearly chose Niagara-on-the-Lake before settling on the $14,000 per night One and Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

It was the very same resort where "Casino Royale" was produced, and the soon-to-be-married couple stayed in the suite where Daniel Craig filmed a steamy scene with Caterina Murino.

"We were in shock, they must have liked us a lot," Morris laughed.

The bride wore a lace Maggie Sottero dress as the couple tied the knot at the resort's Versailles Gardens. Everything went to plan except the reception, which they had to move to a covered area after the rain started coming down.

The newly-married couple then spent an additional six days in the Bahamas before flying home.

January marks the start of a busy year for Morris as she travels to Germany, then Miami and New York.

It isn't always easy for the couple to see each other.

"He doesn't mind getting on a plane to come visit me for weekends and I'm so used to flying out," Morris said of her husband.

"We make it work."

Jennifer Lawrence, Jack Nicholson Saga Continues With A Bottle Of Cristal

Perhaps you recall the delightful moment when Jennifer Lawrence freaked out about meeting Jack Nicholson for the first time.

Lawrence became visibly starstruck when the legendary actor interrupted her interview with George Stephanopoulos after she won the Oscar for Best Actress in February. During the adorable exchange, Nicholson complimented Lawrence on her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook" and remarked that she looked like an old girlfriend.

Well, it seems Lawrence and Nicholson's post-Oscar interaction didn't stop there. In an interview with ABC News, the 23-year-old actress revealed that though they haven't spoken since Oscar night, Nicholson did go out of his way to make their meeting even more memorable.

“He sent me some flowers and a bottle of Cristal and a note that said ‘Missing you already.' Not to brag," she revealed. "I should've probably kept that a secret so it could just be between me and Jack."

No word yet on whether the two will cross paths again backstage at this year's Academy Awards, but there's already plenty of buzz that Lawrence will likely nab a nomination for her role in "American Hustle," which has already earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

We'll admit it: There's nothing more fun than examining celebrities' outfits and deciding who, in our humble opinions, are the best- and worst-dressed.

But we also have a healthy respect for those stars who really just don't "give two sh*ts" about what we think. Zoe Saldana (ironically, a frequent name on our best-dressed lists) tells Lucky magazine this month:

"I can give two sh*ts about what somebody thought I looked like. At the moment I conceived wearing an outfit, I had a thousand reasons. And now that it's done, and I'm getting feedback that it's not positive, I'm going to regret it? I take responsibility for my actions, whether the outcome is positive or negative."

Amen to that. Saldana is just one of many celebs who've spoken out about the criticism surrounding their fashion. Even Selena Gomez has said, "I don't wear outfits or dresses because I feel like it's going to make the best-dressed lists in magazines; I really couldn't care less about things like that."

Then again, celebs are also able to laugh it off when an outfit choice goes awry. (Remember when Chrissy Teigen admitted her dress was a "don't"? "Note to self," she tweeted, "try on in the light.") We bet Zoe would do the same... if she ever wore anything that was less than flawless. We haven't seen it happen yet.

Taylor Swift Shares Childhood Christmas Video On Instagram

Fresh off wrapping up her world tour, Taylor Swift has been keeping busy baking cookies, decorating her Christmas tree, and revisiting Christmas memories of yesteryear.

On Monday (Dec. 23), the 24-year-old shared a piece of her childhood on the Internet, posting a video of her four-year-old self chatting on the phone on Christmas day.

"Christmas 1993, on a very important phone call with Britany. @britmaack," Swift wrote along with the video.

In the clip, Swift doesn't seem particularly pleased to be receiving a phone call from her friend, whom she asks in a demanding tone, "What? Britney, what? What is it?"

Meanwhile, Swift revealed she also gets into the holiday spirit by listening to some of her favorite Christmas tunes.

"[There are] so many! Colbie Caillat has a great Christmas album I’m obsessed with. I love the She & Him Christmas stuff. Bing Crosby, of course. 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' by Mariah Carey. Beach Boys have great Christmas music," she told Entertainment Weekly when asked what her go-to song was to start the Christmas season off each year. "Train has this song called 'Shake Up Christmas.' I have so many favorite Christmas songs right now."

Zoe Saldana On Breast Implants: 'I Wouldn't Mind Buying Myself A Pair'

Zoe Saldana has one of the most enviable bodies in the biz, but that doesn't keep the 35-year-old actress from wanting more. In a remarkably candid interview with Lucky magazine, the actress -- who married Italian artist Marco Perego in September -- admits she is not against considering breast implants for the future.

"You always want what you can't have. My whole life I've been obsessed with breasts. I love them. I don't like fake things, but I wouldn't mind buying myself a pair before I die," she told the publication (via Just Jared).

Despite the breast implant comment, Zaldana made sure to point out that men shouldn't uphold an unrealistic image of women's bodies. "When I hear men say, 'I don't want droopy breasts,' I think I'm sorry, you're not really a man. A man likes a woman as she is. You know when you meet a real man from the way he talks about a woman. You just go, 'Wow, you're a man.'"

9 Brands That Kept My Marriage Stress-free in 2013

Name brands have always been and will always be an integral part of society. They have been instilled in our long-term and short-term memories since childhood. Every year a study is conducted to seek out and list the most recognizable, bankable and global brands. We all must admit that we are attracted to some brands more than others and maybe downright addicted to a few.

As a married couple that works together, my husband and I found ourselves on a book tour this year for our first co-authored book, Surviving Marriage in the 21st Century - 13 Easy Tips that Can Help You Get to 20 Years and Beyond. After 15 cities and still counting, I'm sure we could be placed in the Guinness Book of World Records as most road trips by a married couple. The road is rough -- very rough. There are a few things that make it easier, such as good conversation, well-planned routes and brands that you can count on no matter where you travel. Here is a list of brands (in no particular order) that helped us keep our sanity and made life and marriage on the road stress-free:

1) Dunkin Donuts- Hands down, Dunkin Donuts makes the best coffee. It is a must have when we travel and keeps the mood light and lovely. Hubby is an iced-coffee connoisseur while I love a good regular coffee, small size, with four creams and four sugars. My brother-in-law calls my mix hot chocolate. It is our preferred coffee destination, and when in New Jersey and NYC, we are never disappointed.
2) Toyota - The Camry is equipped with an Eco tank, which allows us to travel almost six hours on one fill up of gas. When we are on a tight schedule, the fewer stops the better. An added luxury is the seat warmers. There's nothing like an ongoing marital argument about being too cold or too hot while driving. When changing climates on the road, the push of a button can stop the argument of the century.
3) Hilton Hotels - A for-sure brand that has the best and most comfortable hotels is Hilton. The rooms are equipped with allergy-free bedding and great gadgets for charging your gadgets. While free warm cookies are nice coming off the road, a married couple can lounge in the lobby next to the fireplace, as most of the hotels have one.
4) Apple - Thank goodness for the iPhone and the iPad mini and synching capabilities. These two devices for techies make mobile life less constrictive. The things hubby has been able to do with these two devices have made my day-to-day responsibilities while traveling streamlined. You know what they say: Happy wife, happy life.
5) Sony PlayStation - A man and his game are not soon parted. Thank you, Sony.
6) Google - First of all, thanks for maps, email, search, alerts, etc. But most of all, thanks for being able to settle things by just telling your spouse "Google it." It's better than counseling.
7) Facebook - Having a couple's profile on Facebook was one of the best decisions we ever made. As a married couple, we should complement one another's strengths and weaknesses. While most couples are saying Facebook has ruined their marriage, it has done the exact opposite for us. It can only do what you allow it to do and what it did for us was be a great outlet. There's nothing better for a marriage when everyone in your circle respects the man and the wife.
8) Netflix - What a great application to just zone out from the world. Sometimes in traveling, there is nothing to watch on hotel television or during long layovers. You can pull up Netflix on your laptop, iPad, iPhone or other mobile devices and find something within minutes. The time passes pretty quickly when watching a TV season marathon or a good documentary. Another great feature is that several people can log on at the same time. Just in case you need a break can anyone say his and hers...
9) Amazon - From publishing, to shipping, to selling, to payments, Amazon makes it easy. Managing several products while mobile was never easier. The one thing that we always love, direct deposit came exactly when it said it would. No worries.

Welp, maybe this list should have been rounded out to 10 brands. The Huffington Post has been instrumental in keeping the stress level down while traveling as it reports real news. Turning to social media and real-time streams proves troublesome when you can't verify the information for daily news, world news or even breaking news. When you see a Huffington Post link you know it's the real deal. Thanks, Huffington Post, for helping us survive 2013... it felt like "Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams" but it was only Cranberry Juice Thoughts and Red Snapper Infatuations.
